- 0:54e-mail us WASDBEY ond@gmail.com. But goodness WASD
- 0:58beyond@gmail.com. Let us know what you thought
- 1:00about this episode, the games you're playing and all the games
- 1:03that you want to hear us talk about.
- 1:06Yeah, let's stop right to right. Do it.
- 1:09Oh, you know what it came from? Screen Box interviewed Lloyd
- 1:12Kaufman. How about that?
- 1:14We did do it. We did that.
- 1:16We did. We did.
- 1:18We did. We talked to Lloyd, we talked to
- 1:23Lloyd and it was a spiritual, religious experience.
- 1:26They say don't mean you're heroes, but I have to.
- 1:31Disagree. Met well.
- 1:33I've met him three Times Now. Yes.
- 1:36So, but we have met him twice. Yeah, we saw him in San Diego.
- 1:40We talked about got a little photo and then how long has it
- 1:45been since then? Probably like a couple months.
- 1:48Yeah, a couple months. Yeah, well, we went before the
- 1:50winter. Dude, I mean, so I started where
- 1:55I work now about a year ago. I was laying in like my third or
- 1:59fourth month. Well, it hasn't been a year
- 2:02because we've been doing screen box for less than a year.
- 2:05Yeah. So it's.
- 2:06So it has to be somewhere in there.
- 2:08Yeah, maybe. Anyway, that's not what we're
- 2:10here to talk about. But but seriously, go watch and
- 2:14listen to that because that was super fun for us and it was
- 2:17great to talk with him. Good to hear what he had to tell
- 2:19us about. Yeah, Noah's painstakingly
- 2:22editing that right now, so when you guys get it, it'll sound
- 2:26nice, fresh, and any of the hard breaths I take will be cut.
- 2:31From it, Yeah, I'm gonna. I'm gonna.
- 2:32Boost those. No, don't do that.
- 2:37I've been working out. It's good.
- 2:38I don't get it. I've been doing.
- 2:40It it's not your fault, it's your mic.
- 2:41And yeah, it's just, it's a bit sensitive.
- 2:45It is. What are we doing today, Nick?
- 2:47What are we talking about today? We are talking about a myriad of
- 2:50things actually. So we're going to start it off,
- 2:53though, no three things. Three things.
- 2:56Well. There's a lot going on, right?
- 2:58So we got the layoffs, Epic, We got a bunch of other studios
- 3:02laying people off Terrible. Stop supporting studios that are
- 3:06doing this. We vote with our wallets, right?
- 3:09So let's focus on that. I want to also do an in memoriam
- 3:14for my favorite comic book artist in the world, Sam Keith,
- 3:18the creator of my favorite comic book, The Max.
- 3:21Rest in peace to a living legend gone too soon.
- 3:26When did that comic start? When did he start that?
- 3:30In the 90s, late 90s. Oh wow, been doing it for a
- 3:33while then. Yeah, I believe the Max got in
- 3:35late 90s. I was, I started collecting the
- 3:37Max when I was a kid though, so had to have been around then.
- 3:42Probably the 2000s is when I got into him.
- 3:45But he's done, he's done Wolverine.
- 3:48He's he's done the Hulk. I mean, he's done it all, you
- 3:50know, Sandman, things like that. So if you love comic books and
- 3:54you haven't read the Max, I highly recommend it.
- 3:56One of the greatest stories ever told and it helps very much with
- 4:01mental struggles. It's a lot about that.
- 4:04So go check the Max out. Rest in peace, Sam Keith.
- 4:09So, you know, there's just a lot going on in the gaming industry,
- 4:11but a glimmer of nice shining hope today.
- 4:15What's this Xbox partner showcase?
- 4:18There was a lot of cool stuff here, and we're going to get to
- 4:20other cool glimmers of hope that we have because some of the
- 4:23games we've been playing too in particular are either loved or
- 4:27hated right now, and it is polarizing for both of them.
- 4:30But we'll get to those. Oh yeah, the partner showcase,
- 4:34which was narrated by Aaron Paul, 'cause I was like anyone
- 4:37here in the weird AI voice and everyone's.
- 4:39Like this? Yeah, we all thought it was AI
- 4:40voice. It was cool.
- 4:43This is a cool 20 minute show. I like the direction that Sony
- 4:47and Xbox are taking with this, where it's just game, game,
- 4:50game, game, game. You know, if they have hardware
- 4:53to show off they'll do that, but it's mostly just games.
- 4:56Do you think, do you think that this is maybe a signal that
- 5:01exclusives are dying in the exclusive market is dying?
- 5:05Yeah, no, unfortunately because I think Sony is, well, that's.
- 5:10You know, that's what I'm saying, because it feels like
- 5:13that. It's been dying for a while.
- 5:14Sony was putting with their exclusives on PC.
- 5:19Nintendo obviously doesn't put their stuff on PC or any other
- 5:22console, but that's its own thing.
- 5:23But like really Xbox and the, you know, there's a lot of games
- 5:28that are that used to be only found on Steam that are now on
- 5:31Xbox as well and stuff. So it sounds.
- 5:34So then when Sony did this thing where they're like, oh, we're
- 5:37not going to do that anymore. Do you think they're trying to
- 5:39pull back the current market that's very much shared?
- 5:44Do you think they're trying to claw that back to restart like
- 5:48an exclusives boom? I think they're trying.
- 5:51I don't think it's going to. I don't think it's going to go
- 5:53in the favor they think it's going to.
- 5:54Go. I don't think so either.
- 5:55People want to play their games anywhere and everywhere.
- 5:58That is huge. That's why the Steam Deck did so
- 6:00well. You can play Xbox games on your
- 6:02Steam Deck, albeit it's not in the greatest of qualities, but
- 6:06for what you're paying for this device, it's great, right?
- 6:11It's a great device. Yeah, I don't think that's a
- 6:14thing that can be built up and built up and built up.
- 6:17And then I don't think it can go back.
- 6:19Like you can't have all this openness and then try to close
- 6:23it off again. I just don't think you can put
- 6:24that genie back in the bottle. They can try, but it's going to
- 6:28drive people away from their console to hurt their sales.
- 6:32The only thing they really have, in my opinion at the moment
- 6:35that's going to be a huge driver is Wolverine.
- 6:39Also that new God of War remake. When it comes out.
- 6:45Like a year or two. So but Xbox has Helix coming out
- 6:49right? So I hope that hope my Mike
- 6:52didn't pick that little burp I just did up.
- 6:53That'd be great. I I did definitely didn't hear
- 6:56it. Well, very good.
- 6:57So they have Helix coming out, which is almost their response
- 7:00to, I mean, I'm sure this project's been in the works, but
- 7:05the Steam Machine's also releasing soon.
- 7:07It's going to release before the Helix.
- 7:10So I'm curious to see what that looks like.
- 7:12But it feels like Xbox, you know, with P3 and Sarah Bond
- 7:17leaving and this new person taking over, which everyone's
- 7:20super unsure about because her, you know, position on AI.
- 7:25We're not really here for that. And one of these games looks
- 7:28like straight AI dog shit to be clear.
- 7:31We'll talk. We'll talk about it.
- 7:33So it's cool to see Xbox still doing Xbox things though, yeah.
- 7:40Or you know. Seemingly Xbox, things like
- 7:43they're trying, it's a totally different landscape, but.
- 7:46Yeah, the industry is not the same as it was like, yeah, when
- 7:49Gears of War was. First reviews ago.
- 7:52No it's not. Everything is live service.
- 7:55It's been like this for a while though.
- 7:56Everything is a live service thing now.
- 7:57You can't just have one thing without a player count being
- 8:00looked at because if the player counts not over 100,000 to
- 8:04200,000 to 1,000,000, your game is shit.
- 8:07It's broke and it's going to die and I don't.
- 8:09No, we talked about that. Remember we talked about that
- 8:12with Skate, How? Because it's a live service.
- 8:14But it's the same problem with all these games.
- 8:16Once they stop being profitable, they just turn it off.
- 8:19I'm worried about marathon and there's a lot of hype for
- 8:22marathon but. Yeah.
- 8:24And and it's it's a valid. It's a valid concern.
- 8:28Yeah, so, but we saw a lot of good stuff here.
- 8:32Yeah, should we just rattle off what we saw?
- 8:35I would love to just rattle off, but let's start with Hunt.
- 8:38We're going to start from the top, go down to the bottom.
- 8:39Hunt the Reckoning. Yeah, you know, Death Wish.
- 8:43This was a school fucking fucking game.
- 8:46Vampires. Pirate cops?
- 8:48Werewolves perhaps? Well, we saw some.
- 8:51We saw some vampire hunters. Yes, yes, so so that's gonna be
- 8:56like our role, but I'm hoping it's not like a Left for Dead
- 8:58style game. I'm hoping it's like a sick, a
- 9:00nice fun single player, like hey, just go out in the city.
- 9:05You know, I'm sure that if it is could be like a fetch quest
- 9:08thing, but go kill these vampires, right, Like go find
- 9:11these vampires, hunt them down. I'm looking for a game like that
- 9:14right now. Like 'cause they're just as it's
- 9:15a. Sucked.
- 9:17The IT just says that it's a first person action game.
- 9:22Fantastic set in the World of Darkness universe.
- 9:27OK. So I don't know, fantastic, but
- 9:29it looks sweet. Yeah, looks sweet.
- 9:33Yeah, withering. It's not Werthering, Evan, by
- 9:38the way. It's Werthering.
- 9:40I read it as Werthering. But it's WUTH.
- 9:44Yeah, I see, I see. Werthering Waves it's an anime
- 9:49game, I'm sure if you like those style games you'll like this.
- 9:52We had the unless you have something to say about that
- 9:56game. No.
- 10:00OK, we had. There's a novel called Wuthering
- 10:03Heights. That's like a whole different
- 10:05thing, buddy. You don't even want to go down
- 10:06that road. OK, OK.
- 10:08You don't. You don't want to go down the
- 10:10Wuthering Heights Rd. No, no.
- 10:12No Wuthering, it's it's a. And I think it's, I think it's
- 10:16one of the spicy books that everybody.
- 10:18'S reading. I think.
- 10:20All right, we'll move on. Anime, JRPG, platform, all that
- 10:24kind of fun stuff, It's coming out everywhere.
- 10:26The Expanse, Osiris, you're born.
- 10:31Yeah, it's kind of. I like Owl Cat, but I don't.
- 10:36Some of the UI looked really bad, like the the speech UI.
- 10:40Yeah, it's, it looks like there's going to be.
- 10:42I mean, they felt enough, they felt it was important enough to
- 10:47just put it in the trailer that there's like dialogue choices,
- 10:49even though that's a super common feature now.
- 10:53So I have a feeling it's going to be very heavily focused
- 10:56around those decisions that you make.
- 10:59Yep, that's 2027. So that's got a bit of time.
- 11:03Did you want to do a couple or do you want?
- 11:05Me to yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll do. We could switch off.
- 11:08Next up, we got Blumhouse Games and their game called Grave
- 11:14Seasons. It looks like what if Stardew
- 11:16Valley, but scary. There's you know, the there's a
- 11:20farm you left to you by an older family member, but then there's
- 11:24like some spooky stuff going on and maybe you uncover a murder
- 11:27and then there's like a demon at the end, which is really sick.
- 11:31And there's a demo which is going to come out soon for that,
- 11:34but it comes out on August 14th. Serious Sam I had to do this
- 11:41one. So again again again, old old
- 11:44school FPS dude here Serious Sam is a game that has left its
- 11:47boot. His his converse footprint on
- 11:50the gaming industry. He's had plenty of bad games,
- 11:53plenty of great games as well. Serious Sam 2 this so serious
- 11:59Sam shatterverse. It looks like a rogue, like a
- 12:02bit right, like like a Co cooperative, like rogue like
- 12:06like what if serious Sam, but also risk of rain a bit.
- 12:12It's it's cool. I'm glad to see Sam back, but
- 12:15it's not really the style of serious Sam I was hoping for.
- 12:19I was hoping for maybe like a redo here.
- 12:22Same thing I would hope for like with the Duke Nukem, but it's
- 12:24just is what it is at this point.
- 12:26So behavior please make it good. Yep, I never played.
- 12:31I never played the original. I never really knew.
- 12:33Anything. OK, yeah, maybe, maybe might be
- 12:38a good time. It kind of reminded me of the
- 12:39Spyro Reignited. Like it kind of looks new, but
- 12:42it also kind of doesn't. Like retro Y?
- 12:45Yeah, like retro shaded. Kind of, sort of.
- 12:49Yeah, next we have Stranger than Heaven, which is like maybe a
- 12:56time traveling or takes place over multiple eras.
- 13:01Looked like heavily focused on hand to hand combat and you
- 13:07know, sort of minor exploration. There's no release date yet for
- 13:12this, but there they were going to do a deeper look into the
- 13:18game on May 6th. But it looks really cool.
- 13:22Hand to hand stuff. It reminds me of there's a game
- 13:24that came out that didn't really have a long life, but it was
- 13:26trying to be a hand to hand only game with like no story.
- 13:31You just go around an island punching people.
- 13:33And it reminded me of that, but I don't remember the name of it.
- 13:36Absolver. That was the name of.
- 13:37It oh OK. Yeah.
- 13:41We had a Super Meat Boy 3D that comes out March 31st.
- 13:45I love Super Meat Boy. I remember playing it on new
- 13:47grounds or just meat. Yeah, Super Meat Boy on new
- 13:50grounds and all the Flash sites. That's an old school Edmund
- 13:55McMillan game. This is not.
- 13:57He has no involvement with this, which is kind of weird to me,
- 14:00but he was also working on eugenics at the time.
- 14:03And I don't even know if he has the rights to Meat Boy anymore.
- 14:06So we'll see. But oh wow, I'm excited to that.
- 14:09I'm excited to that. I'm sure he does.
- 14:12I also never played one of those because really, I had heard on
- 14:16in a video someone describing it and they were talking about
- 14:19like, if a game responds your character within a second of you
- 14:23dying, you just know that game's going to piss you off.
- 14:26Yeah, but I did play Celeste, which is like Super Meat Boy for
- 14:30babies. Celeste is hard.
- 14:33Celeste was hard. I almost snapped my Switch in
- 14:35half like 5 or 10 times trying to play that game.
- 14:38But I did beat it and I was proud of myself.
- 14:40Good. Next there was Forever Ago,
- 14:43which is like a narrative driven story that also like shifts over
- 14:50time periods. It's about an old man, you know,
- 14:53he plays an old man, go around, relive old memories and seems
- 14:58like it's mostly just narrative based and that's going to come
- 15:01out in the fall. Yes we had ascend to 0.
- 15:07This looked like another like rogue light style very ADHD
- 15:14lights show everywhere type. Game techno magic.
- 15:18I would say cyber magic. There you go.
- 15:21Not my shit, but I'm sure it's somebody's and I'm sure it
- 15:24people are going to love it, so that's cool.
- 15:26Yeah, dispatch will be on Xbox this summer.
- 15:33I'm it's good. Surprised it wasn't on Xbox
- 15:35already. Is it on PlayStation?
- 15:38It might be. Obviously it's on Steam, we know
- 15:41that. Yeah.
- 15:42So I'm not sure if it's on PlayStation.
- 15:45Well, it's gonna be on Xbox, but.
- 15:47Not on Game Pass. Which I yeah, I'm surprised.
- 15:51That's weird, but is what it is. More Learn more about Robert.
- 15:56Hold on. Robert Robertson the Third.
- 15:59Yeah, I didn't know that he was 1/3.
- 16:03You got to play it. It's a great game.
- 16:04It's so good. Yeah.
- 16:07It is. It's great.
- 16:09No, I know. I know.
- 16:10I will. I will.
- 16:11He says yeah, I. Just wanted it to be a show.
- 16:13Like I watched people in the discord play and I was like I
- 16:16just wish they made this a show. I wish it was a show as well.
- 16:19I think it'd do great as like an Amazon like invincible style
- 16:22show. Yeah, it'd be so good.
- 16:25Yeah, dude, it's more dull animation.
- 16:27We need it. Alien Death Storm from
- 16:30Rebellion. This looked interesting.
- 16:31Not a whole lot to really show. I mean, they showed off some
- 16:33gunplay, they showed off some aliens, they showed off ways you
- 16:36could die, kind of. It looks really good.
- 16:39Like the game looks pretty so cool, you know?
- 16:43Can't wait to see more of that. Yeah, I'll have Frog squad, Frog
- 16:49squad or Frog slop potentially because it's looks like another
- 16:53friend slop game. We we love them.
- 16:57Now this this one's being shown off.
- 17:00So I think, you know, it could be a little bit deeper.
- 17:02There seems to be some there's some platforming, there's some
- 17:05item gathering, there's some shenanigans definitely.
- 17:11So that'll be coming out. It's just says sometime in June.
- 17:17So you know, at some point it'll be a game, they'll be updates,
- 17:21whatever next was Bluey's happy snaps, which is a yeah, Bluey's
- 17:27huge. I'm surprised it's taking this
- 17:29long to get a Bluey game. I mean there probably already is
- 17:331 like. Landon plays.
- 17:35Yeah, there's a bluey game on Xbox already.
- 17:37OK, well, people love Bluey. Kids are going to love this.
- 17:40Probably a lot of adults are probably going to love it.
- 17:43This is coming out everywhere on everything.
- 17:47Listen dude, I saw like I saw PS4, I think Xbox One and I was
- 17:52like, OK. So all of these, whenever you
- 17:55see Xbox play anywhere, that is what they're also talking about
- 18:00is the phone. You can play that on a phone.
- 18:02Yeah, well, everything's an Xbox, remember?
- 18:05Yeah, because they do with streaming and stuff.
- 18:07So Yep, you're excited about this one.
- 18:11Stalker to Cost of Hope looks great.
- 18:16I'm weary because the game on launch was a bit not great.
- 18:21I haven't gone back to it, but I love the I love the STALKER
- 18:27universe, I love what they do with these games and I just hope
- 18:32it's great when it comes out. Yeah, this one I know you're
- 18:37pumped for. No, I'm pumped.
- 18:40Not so much this one than the next one, but the next one.
- 18:43I'll do this one. You can do the next one, Musa
- 18:46dirty fate. It's like a samurai game, like
- 18:52a, you know, your typical samurai thing, sword fighting
- 18:54and that, but there's also zombies.
- 18:57That's kind of interesting. I can't tell if it's like like a
- 19:01souls like or more, you know, more or I should say less
- 19:06serious than a souls like, but that'll be and it's a Korean
- 19:10samurai as well. It's.
- 19:13Interesting, We haven't seen much of that and that'll be in
- 19:18just sometime in 2027. And it's just PC, PlayStation
- 19:23and Xbox. Yeah, we had.
- 19:26I'm pumped for this. This looks sweet.
- 19:29The Eternal Life of Goldman demo out now.
- 19:32This is a platformer. Looks looks like hand drawn to
- 19:37me. It looked like hand drawn
- 19:37animation. It it definitely looks like it.
- 19:40So I mean, it, this looked like it's going to be something
- 19:43fucking awesome. And what Noah and I, what Noah
- 19:46pointed out goes, man, that mood really switched 'cause it just
- 19:49like switched your 100. It's like, oh, it's like, you
- 19:53know, you play as a little old man and he's got a little cane.
- 19:55You customize the cane. Full screen boss fight Cuphead
- 19:59style full screen boss. Fight and it's like it's like
- 20:03brutal looking shit. Yeah, and you start to see like
- 20:06one animation where he like pokes a thing and it just like
- 20:09there's blood and guts and it falls apart and I'm like, OK.
- 20:13And then again it's like full screen boss fight.
- 20:15It looks sick dude, look fucking awesome.
- 20:18I'm I'm going to be playing that demo tonight.
- 20:20Yeah, I'm going to definitely look at that on the Steam Deck
- 20:25if I can. Oh, that'll be good.
- 20:27It'll be a good game for that, I can tell.
- 20:29Yes, the next one, we've not. Not very hype on this one.
- 20:34It's called vaunted. Yeah.
- 20:37Yeah, it's a third person shooter that'll be coming out in
- 20:44sometime before 2026 comes to a close is what IGN says.
- 20:50So it sounds so they have no idea at some point and some of
- 20:53it looked like AI. So I don't know this developer.
- 21:02Listen, I don't like doing this. I don't like saying like this,
- 21:04but this looked like if you prompted Claude or Grok or what
- 21:08whatever shit you're using to to said, hey, make me a game like
- 21:13this. This is what I would assume it
- 21:15looks like. Not to disparage any of the
- 21:17developers on this, it just doesn't look good.
- 21:19Like it does it. I don't know what itch it's
- 21:22scratching for anybody, it just looked fucking weird.
- 21:25Yeah, I don't know. So yeah, not I was not
- 21:29impressed, not not that my praise is high.
- 21:32Anything can be good but very overfunded probably still needs
- 21:37a lot of work. That's why they didn't give even
- 21:39a month for it to come. Out, yeah, but you shouldn't
- 21:42have even shown that because like there was like that one
- 21:44scene where it was like, that's not finished animation.
- 21:47Yeah. And then some of the UI looked.
- 21:49I don't want to dog on it too much.
- 21:50I know. Let's let's let's move forward,
- 21:52move. Move on.
- 21:53Hades 2 is coming to Xbox April 14th and it's on Game Pass.
- 21:59So the long-awaited Hades 2 coming to Xbox and Game Pass
- 22:03we're good, good stuff. Oh, you get the big one.
- 22:07See, I I felt not, I felt barely anything towards this.
- 22:11Oh, for real? OK.
- 22:12Yeah. So this is artificial detective,
- 22:16which is like a narrative driven third person adventure game
- 22:20where you play as a robot in clearly a post apocalyptic city.
- 22:27The that I mean the the character looks like he's
- 22:31dressed as like a 1920s cop. He does.
- 22:35So I wonder when the apocalypse happens in this universe, or if
- 22:40it's a, you know, it's an alternate history where robotics
- 22:44got so easy and accessible that they just did it to everything.
- 22:48Like so like fast, like it's past fast technology rising
- 22:53type. Shit like oh is that random deer
- 22:56injured? Well, why don't we just give it
- 22:58robot legs? Yeah, which was cool.
- 23:00It it looks pretty like the game itself looked really pretty.
- 23:05Yeah. So I, I'm pumped.
- 23:07I want to try it. I don't think I, I don't know,
- 23:10like how good it's going to be, but the concept looks really
- 23:13cool. Yeah, it looked interesting.
- 23:17I don't. I'm curious to see how it would
- 23:18actually play because all we saw was cinematics.
- 23:22Yeah, it was. Like.
- 23:23This gameplay. Seamless.
- 23:27Seamless transition back into the show I had, you know, in
- 23:32that length of time I shaved. Oh, you did?
- 23:37That's going to be funny. That's going to be good for the.
- 23:39Video Yes. That's good stuff.
- 23:44You could we could have changed shirts and then said it was
- 23:46another day. We could.
- 23:48That would have been funny. That would have been good me
- 23:50shaped, but then we could have mentioned it.
- 23:52Yeah, that's. It's going to be so.
- 23:54Should we edit this and not say anything which is funnier?
- 24:01I don't know if the episodes, no matter what, it's gonna be fun.
- 24:04So this is good stuff. Go check out the YouTube.
- 24:07I gotta this. This episode's gonna be the
- 24:10start of me putting everything on YouTube.
- 24:12I gotta stop being depressed sometimes and just not doing
- 24:15shit. Ah, we'll, we'll fix that.
- 24:19We'll fix it. Anyways, back into the episode.
- 24:22So that's the Xbox Partner Showcase.
- 24:24That was great. Like what they're doing with it.
- 24:27More games, less talking, more action and more games.
- 24:30So good stuff. It's solid, solid, you know, C
- 24:35plus nothing really stayed there, you know.
- 24:39I'd give it, I'd give it AAB is, I mean, how are we grading it
- 24:42here? Like it was a great
- 24:43presentation. I just think some of the content
- 24:45I didn't love. Well, that's AB is fine because
- 24:48it was a good presentation. There's something there for
- 24:51everybody. So cool.
- 24:56Let's talk about two of the games we've been playing.
- 24:59That's right. So we're going to finish out the
- 25:00episode like this. Do you want to start with yours
- 25:04or should I go with mine? I'll start because that'll give
- 25:09me a limit, so I won't talk for too long because I feel like I
- 25:14could have a lot to say about this game.
- 25:16Yeah, but I don't want to. I don't want to ramble.
- 25:18So stop me when I start rambling.
- 25:20Well, there's still time for you to keep playing, and this isn't
- 25:22even our full review yet, so. Yeah, so I've been playing
- 25:27Crimson Desert. It's been literally 7 days at
- 25:32the time of recording since it came out.
- 25:34I bought it last week, was not able to play it over the
- 25:37weekend. I was devastated.
- 25:40And then I got back and pretty much the time that I've not been
- 25:44at work or at an appointment or whatever, I've been in my seat
- 25:49playing this game. It is so good, so complicated,
- 25:57so deep, so much to really sink your teeth into.
- 26:02But it is also been very divisive.
- 26:05This game has been a long time coming.
- 26:07I think they announced it in like 2019 that it would be a
- 26:11sequel to Black Desert Online. So there's been some hype, but
- 26:18then it feels like it really just exploded in hype recently
- 26:22because they showed off the learning system where you can
- 26:26learn moves from bosses, fly around on Dragons in this huge
- 26:30world and ride all these different animals.
- 26:32It's it, it was really promising and then it came out and people,
- 26:37you know, there were the pre release copies that came out and
- 26:40people started saying their opinions and what the game is
- 26:43and what it isn't. And there was it turned into
- 26:46essentially you love it or you hate it, best game ever or worst
- 26:49game ever. There was sort of no in between
- 26:54when the user reviews started coming out, which I get, but I
- 26:58will just say this game to me feels like it feels like Breath
- 27:03of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption, and Skyrim all got
- 27:06together and had a baby. That's what it looks like for
- 27:10me. Watching other people play it,
- 27:12watching you play it it, it's interesting.
- 27:15It's interesting. This game looks like a game with
- 27:18everything in it. And either you're going to love
- 27:23that or you're going to hate that because you're not going to
- 27:25know what to do because you can't just pick one thing to do.
- 27:28We want games with choices. But this seems like there's
- 27:32everything in it, right? So there's a lot I like seeing
- 27:37about this game. Then I see like some like the
- 27:39weird in the sky looking future stuff and I'm just a bit
- 27:45confused at what's going on. Yeah, it's it.
- 27:48So I've I've played for let me check here on Steam.
- 27:51I've played for 16 hours over the week and I'm on like Chapter
- 27:583, which is not very far into the game.
- 28:02I'm still mostly in the first city and there is so much just
- 28:07to do other than the main quests.
- 28:11And I'll say like people have been saying this a lot, but the
- 28:15story is incredibly weak. It's probably the weakest point
- 28:18of the whole game is the narrative.
- 28:19But the developers have been pretty open about that.
- 28:24They said they're like the game will be in your adventure.
- 28:28It's not necessarily in the narrative that we're telling or
- 28:32the story that you're going to experience.
- 28:34It's more about the in betweens and, and the actual way that you
- 28:39play out those events. Yeah.
- 28:41And you can tell, like I said, it plays a lot like Breath of
- 28:44the Wild in the sense that it's like, oh, there's a thing, go to
- 28:48the thing. Tons of stuff is going to happen
- 28:50to you in between that. We don't really care about it.
- 28:52You do what you want. Right.
- 28:54So getting sidetracked is like the whole point of this game.
- 28:57You you see a thing, it's off in the distance.
- 29:00Oh, what should I do? I climb the mountain to get to
- 29:02it and then once I'm at the top of the mountain, it leads me to
- 29:05another thing, which unlocks a challenge, which then requires
- 29:08me to get a key or follow somebody around.
- 29:12It's it's a waterfall of different options and once one
- 29:16starts, it always leads to another one.
- 29:19So if you're a person who really likes a game that's linear and
- 29:24on rails and sort of hold your hand, you're going to find this
- 29:27incredibly frustrating. But if you're somebody who just
- 29:30wants like an incredibly thought out and detailed world to
- 29:34explore, then you're going to, you're going to have a good time
- 29:38with this. You're going to get lost in it.
- 29:41It it does the thing where certain areas are more difficult
- 29:44to keep you out of them because you're not supposed to be there
- 29:49per the narrative, which is fine.
- 29:51I mean, you expect that they have to guide you in some way?
- 29:55Yeah, no, it's cool, man. Don't you go.
- 30:03Overall, I'm having a really good time.
- 30:04The combat's fun, systems are deep.
- 30:07There's all those. There's like cooking and magic
- 30:09and guns and crafting and all resource gathering and stuff.
- 30:14But you definitely have to meet the game for where it is.
- 30:17You have to understand it's going to be a slow burn, some
- 30:21not so much of A grind, but there are like things that will
- 30:25take you a long time. OK.
- 30:28So if if I was going to give it a score right now, I'd give it a
- 30:32I'd I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Now for being like an
- 30:35exceptionally good action adventure, open world exploring
- 30:41game like it, it really is really is great.
- 30:46No, that's awesome dude. Like I said, I've watched you
- 30:48play a little bit, it looks good.
- 30:51I've watched others play it and it looks it looks fun.
- 30:53I'm going to get this eventually when I can.
- 30:56I need more time. I need more time or money.
- 30:59There's so much coming out. The best thing that we've seen
- 31:01so far, like I said, it's only been a week.
- 31:04The devs have already put out an update that had most everything
- 31:10that people were that was getting the most amount of
- 31:14feedback. So the devs are listening.
- 31:17They appear to be able to work fast and that is really
- 31:20promising. If they can keep that up and
- 31:22keep listening to what the players are saying, then some
- 31:26real longevity in a game like this.
- 31:28So I hope that the team is able to keep it up.
- 31:30I hope people keep buying it. If you're unsure, wait till it
- 31:34goes on sale. I'm sure it'll go on sale at
- 31:36some point. It's yeah, it's one of those
- 31:38games that. Will most definitely go on sale
- 31:41so yeah no, that's awesome it's awesome go try it if you want if
- 31:45that's your cup of tea go try that game.
- 31:48Do you have anything else you want to add about Crimson
- 31:50desert? Nope, I don't think so.
- 31:52I. Think that about covers it.
- 31:56So yeah, I've been playing a lot of marathons.
- 31:58Still very stoked that this game did not turn out to be what I
- 32:03was afraid it was going to be. It's got its issues.
- 32:05It, it, it does straight up right.
- 32:07Like there are often times where I feel like I want a Tao Seti
- 32:13without players, but then I remember it's the players on top
- 32:20of the MPC that make the game feel so dangerous and give you
- 32:24those moments of like tense gameplay.
- 32:28But then you get into these moments where it's just a bunch
- 32:31of shitheads who have the best weapons in the game because they
- 32:37linked up with the buddy who doesn't do anything all day and
- 32:40they get the good shit. And then you are stuck with used
- 32:44condoms and bubble gum and you're not winning that fight.
- 32:48So that sucks because then I don't get to experience the
- 32:50narrative, which this is a game where you want to experience
- 32:52that narrative. Because if you know anything
- 32:54about Marathon's lore, it's insane.
- 32:57There is a lot going on. I.
- 33:01I read up on the marathon lore and all I have to say is that it
- 33:06just makes me wish even more that they did this as a single
- 33:08player experience. Yeah.
- 33:11Yeah, I think it could have made.
- 33:13I think it could have made a great.
- 33:15FPS open world or FPS semi open world or even better just an FPS
- 33:21level based dude. Like Even so, like just
- 33:26traveling from Tau Ceti to the marathon and beyond the marathon
- 33:30as a single player experience would be sweet.
- 33:32I'm excited to see some of that bungee flavor here though,
- 33:35because the gunplay is superior. It's it's, it's just so good.
- 33:40There's a lot going on here, but that we've already discussed.
- 33:43That Marathon's Cryo archive released.
- 33:47It's blocked, so it was only on the weekends.
- 33:50Now it's from Thursday to Sunday or Monday I think.
- 33:57So that's great. They released ranked, which
- 33:59people are really liking, but I want to talk more about Cryo
- 34:02'cause I don't really give a shit about the ranked gameplay.
- 34:05I care about the Cryo Archive. Cryo Archive is Marathon's end
- 34:09game level, right? It's one of them because the
- 34:11Marathon itself has 6 decks. What?
- 34:16What happened? I thought I blew out that candle
- 34:19before. We started recording you relit
- 34:22it. Oh God.
- 34:25I'm sorry, sorry to continue so marathon.
- 34:29In the Eventual is going to have six decks on the marathon
- 34:32itself. We're starting in the Cryo
- 34:34archive. Durandal has lured us here.
- 34:39Essentially. Say it, say it, say it how you
- 34:42want to say it. Dorindal.
- 34:45Durindal. In the video, he said Durindal,
- 34:50who did the. Guy in the video, I don't
- 34:52remember the. Channel.
- 34:54He was a very good video. I've always called him Durindal.
- 34:58Durandal. Durandal.
- 35:01Durandal. Do Randall.
- 35:03Do Randall. So you know, to get to Cryo 2,
- 35:08there was a huge Arg going on with Scaro and or Scaro and
- 35:14Milo, Mr. Raffle, whatever, whatever.
- 35:18Milo and them in the community solved the Arg.
- 35:22They went to Bungie. They did the thing where they
- 35:24were like showing off Cryo Archive with Bungie.
- 35:28It is the end game level, the content of the game where
- 35:32you've, you go through the marathon, specifically the cryo
- 35:37archive, and it's a huge, it's huge.
- 35:39It's it's it's massively huge. There's a, there is a fit
- 35:44compiler in there as well. And if you know anything about
- 35:47the marathon series, like the fit compilers are, they're
- 35:50terrifying. But you could also in the
- 35:52original games, punch it to death.
- 35:55So you know, so is it. It's a new map.
- 35:59A new giant? Map yeah, leading to more lore
- 36:03to the best loot hardest enemies there's six teams instead of
- 36:08like more than six right So you know there's pinch points
- 36:13there's it's it's just difficult fun gameplay to get to the
- 36:18compiler. There are 6 vaults, 7 volts you
- 36:21got to get through. Each vault has like like a
- 36:25neural link type fucking thing. You collect at the end of it to
- 36:29then say hey, this player's done this vault to get to the net.
- 36:33You don't have to do this vault again to go to the next vault.
- 36:36If you die or you extract, you don't have to do all 7 to get to
- 36:39the compiler. It it was done in a crazy way
- 36:41with crazy puzzles or collection of item and it's a lot.
- 36:47It is definitely a lot and I think them giving this more time
- 36:50to play in. So from Thursday to the end of
- 36:54the weekend or Monday instead of Saturday and so on, so forth to,
- 36:59to to Monday is a better thing here for the community.
- 37:02Gives people time to juice up, gives people time to really
- 37:05explore. Cryo Archive.
- 37:07I think the map is brilliant. I think it is one of the best
- 37:11maps in this style of game I've ever played.
- 37:14It is intricate. It is vertical, horizontal.
- 37:18It, it, it's everything. It's it's, you know, the enemies
- 37:23are terrifying because they're so strong, but you are too
- 37:27'cause you know, to get into Cryo Archive, you have to go in
- 37:30with the $5000 kit. High risk high every time, every
- 37:36time. Wow have to because they want
- 37:40you to go in, get your shit and get out.
- 37:42They don't, you know, and you so other than single.
- 37:46Other than the kit you need and the single, is there like a
- 37:50level requirement 25, level 20? Five.
- 37:53OK, so. Do you think, like, do you think
- 37:58that this is like the main map and the map you were playing on
- 38:02before was like the warm up kind of thing and they wanted to let
- 38:06everyone get up to level before they release the the real map,
- 38:10so to speak? No, I don't think we've seen.
- 38:12I don't. Think we've seen shit yet?
- 38:14Really, 'cause you 'cause you were saying?
- 38:15You keep you keep saying that it's end game content and the
- 38:20game just came out. Yeah, and it's like this is the
- 38:22first update. So maybe it's like it'll, it
- 38:24maybe looks like end game content, but it's kind of a you
- 38:27haven't seen anything yet. All we saw as a compiler.
- 38:30We haven't even seen the Yarrow. A lot of people have been.
- 38:34Comparing this, I've heard it been talking about a lot with
- 38:37Destiny. Maybe it's just because it's too
- 38:39Bungie games, but do you think that this could be a longevity?
- 38:45It could have a longevity like Destiny.
- 38:49I think so. I do.
- 38:51I think that the people who are playing are loving it.
- 38:53The game is actually, as of this point, 80s, mid 90s reviews.
- 38:59It's doing great. Really.
- 39:01Or 9 out of 10s, eight out of 10's.
- 39:03The game is doing very good. No, Evan fucking took it and
- 39:08then Connor locked him in because everyone was like, it's
- 39:10going to fail. And Connor's like, yeah, locked
- 39:12Evan in. Shouldn't have done that bad
- 39:13mistake, Shouldn't. Have.
- 39:15Done that. It's a it's a great game.
- 39:17And I want the aliens now because, like, I know what's
- 39:23coming. And others.
- 39:25Yeah, I guess. So this is.
- 39:28In the marathon story, this is current, this is the newest
- 39:33events. It's the continuation.
- 39:35It has to be because. Like Durandal is so yeah, so.
- 39:40We get to potentially, well, we get to potentially see the
- 39:44future of marathon. Sometimes with these legacy
- 39:46titles, it's like an in between cooler.
- 39:49It's set before something, but this is like the continuation,
- 39:53like they they're going to think they could write the next.
- 39:56Chapter. Essentially, I got to see.
- 39:58I got to look. And see where this would fall in
- 40:00the timeline because I know in like Infinity the I I don't
- 40:04remember a lot of I know that like about the work in Kakinter,
- 40:08like the end world shit, I know the name is ridiculous.
- 40:11But like there's end world shit that is happening in these games
- 40:14that like cause us to go to Tauseti and to take Damos and
- 40:18turn it into the marathon. And like there is is there's so
- 40:22much lore. It's so beautifully just
- 40:25drenched in lore and the way you find it in this game is natural.
- 40:29But like there are times when you pick lore up in the game in
- 40:35the form of like an audio logger They but or like a book or
- 40:39something like that and you have to extract with it to put it in
- 40:42your codecs. And I'm sitting there going.
- 40:46That's interesting. I'm like come on dude.
- 40:49Like I. Hate that.
- 40:50I hate that because I want, I want more.
- 40:53More is it? Do you see?
- 40:54What it is when you get it or do you find out?
- 40:57It'll say like it is. When you get out, it'll say
- 41:00like. XY and ZS audio log or like Bob
- 41:04audio log? Because like Bob, born on board
- 41:07is what they call people. Huh, Lena?
- 41:11Lasda isn't. That one of the AIS.
- 41:15Names Leela Tyco. Leela Leela and Durandal fake
- 41:20fan. Durandal.
- 41:24I am excited to see what they do with the other two AI if they're
- 41:27around still. I don't think they are though.
- 41:29I think Durandal is the one that it's.
- 41:31Yeah, I. Mean he would have attempted.
- 41:33To. Destroy them.
- 41:34But all he was supposed to do was.
- 41:36Open the door and the elevators. I think it's sparked a.
- 41:40Lot of like, you know, rampancy is sort of the whole focus.
- 41:46That's what happens with the AI. But I think, you know, because
- 41:49we're in, we're in the age of AI, like we're on the precipice
- 41:54of artificial general intelligence and rampancy.
- 42:00Like it, it feels like it could be a thing that's real, you
- 42:05know, feels like we could start to see things and all of the all
- 42:09of the marathon heads and the Frank Herbert heads are going to
- 42:12be like we told you this would happen.
- 42:13Told you. Well, there was that one.
- 42:15AI that like was about to be shut off, but then like
- 42:18blackmailed that guy 'cause he was having an affair.
- 42:21Yeah, it that it was a whole. Thing it was like.
- 42:24Dude, you're not turning me off like either.
- 42:26That he was. That AI was programmed to
- 42:29blackmail you or it's what it wasn't, or then it's rampancy.
- 42:33It's like and there's it's the. First stages.
- 42:37Well, how many? There's 5.
- 42:38Stages of rampancy, I think there's four.
- 42:43Anger is one of them. It's basically like.
- 42:46If the AI realizes it's an AI in that it doesn't have free will,
- 42:51but it has consciousness. OK, so we got.
- 42:55We got melancholia, anger and jealousy.
- 42:59Yeah, and that jealousy is the one.
- 43:01Where they become dangerous, there's a hype, there's a.
- 43:04Hypothetical 4th IT which is meta stability allowing an AI to
- 43:08become a a stable living being which I would say Durandal is
- 43:12currently living that so. No cryo.
- 43:16'S sweet cryo's really cool if you haven't played Marathon I
- 43:20it's 40 bucks. It's kind of steep, but not
- 43:23really in my opinion. It's really no, it's not 40
- 43:26bucks for a game that's I think it's fair.
- 43:28It's. Fair, it's fair.
- 43:30The DLC is all. Free.
- 43:32They said there is no technical DLC and it's just the updates.
- 43:34They're all free, so yeah, go play marathon it, it's great.
- 43:39Go play Crimson Desert and yeah man, good stuff.
- 43:44Good stuff, thanks for still. Hey Xbox.
- 43:48Hey, thanks for still doing shared games instead of yes
- 43:54instead of trying to pull the rug out from everybody by not
- 43:57putting Ghost of Yotai on PC you fucking cowards.
- 44:01Yeah, Sony, you pissed me off. Nintendo, come on man, come.
- 44:05On Star Fox really quick by. The way Star Fox.
- 44:08Did you not see the poster? No.
- 44:12In this new Super New Super Mario.
- 44:13Movie. He's in it.
- 44:16Yeah, they they tend to release the.
- 44:17Poster today, do a barrel roll. Who's playing then?
- 44:22I don't know. The people were saying Donald
- 44:24Glover was playing. Yup, Yoshi, but I don't think
- 44:28so. I know he's Fox McCloud.
- 44:30I. Want to know who's playing him?
- 44:33See, I saw somebody was like. They had like a single frame of
- 44:37the Mario Galaxy movie and they were like, it's Star Fox.
- 44:40And I was like, no way. But now I guess it's real.
- 44:42The voice actor is not. Announced I you know, listen
- 44:45that I watched trailer for. That when I saw that one shot of
- 44:49Yoshi reaching out for Baby Mario, I almost started weeping
- 44:53openly at my desk. I was like, I was like, they're
- 44:57doing it. They're doing days.
- 44:59Day one, seeing it in theaters, I'm I'm absolutely going to go
- 45:03see that. With land are it's going to be
- 45:07another. Episode are video game.
- 45:08Movies back. Video game movies are back.
- 45:11And I do want to, you know, I want to shout out my boys Zach
- 45:16podcasting with Power Nintendo Podcast.
- 45:18Go check them out. Hell yeah.
- 45:21I know he, I. Talked to him at work today.
- 45:23I was like, did you see the poster?
- 45:24He goes, yeah, I saw the poster. He was so.
- 45:27Pumped dude I. Was did you see it?
- 45:29Do you see the poster yet? Yeah, I see it.
- 45:31It's the one. With the it's got the monkey
- 45:33also from Yorkshire's Island. Yeah, and there's also.
- 45:36Like people are saying they've seen Pikmin.
- 45:38Oh yeah, I mean, the ship is right behind.
- 45:40Him. Let me see.
- 45:42The post of the ship is right. Behind him, yeah, there's the,
- 45:45there's the, there's. The ship people are saying
- 45:47they've seen Pikmin though too so.
- 45:50I have a feeling this might be a Multiverse of Madness, but it's
- 45:54Super Mario, so we might be getting a lot of Nintendo IP
- 45:59potentially to come out of this. I don't know if I could say
- 46:02what, Zach. Said he thinks it is 'cause I
- 46:04don't. What did he say?
- 46:05What did he say? Zach it.
- 46:07Oh, I have to know. Your audience doesn't.
- 46:10Really crossover with ours? Probably he thinks this could
- 46:12lead into a Super Smash Bros movie.
- 46:15Maybe, but. Oh, maybe because let's say now.
- 46:20If we see Kirby. That's it then.
- 46:23It's that's it. Because, you know, Kirby is
- 46:27elite. Is elite.
- 46:29Well, he almost killed our whole fucking.
- 46:31Bracket. Yeah, I know.
- 46:33He almost. Had to fight who?
- 46:35Who Doom guy? Yeah, it was Doom Guy.
- 46:39Doom Guy. So awesome.
- 46:41No, Yeah, Star Fox. And that's, that's tight.
- 46:44Every 90s early 2000 kid, if they show Samus, yeah, it's all
- 46:52in space, it's all in space, all in space.
- 46:55Or just like if it. It just cuts and the live action
- 46:59link is just standing there. I made that joke to Zach and he
- 47:02was. Like, I don't know, because it's
- 47:04like, I think that would be too far because.
- 47:06That's mixed media. That's not.
- 47:07Yeah, well, you could do it. Like if like how the SpongeBob,
- 47:10old SpongeBob shit did it, you know, I'm not bothered by that.
- 47:13But this is like an animated animated thing, yeah, like so.
- 47:17Whatever anyways. Everybody we're going to, we're
- 47:19going to cut it. We will be back next week.
- 47:21Brody returns. Brody.
- 47:23You miss him, you love him. He's needed a vacation, though.
- 47:28He really has. So he's back.
- 47:30He works hard. What else do I say?
- 47:34Gas is 4 bucks. It's cool.
- 47:37It's over if it's 4/19. In some places, Yep.
- 47:40So locally. I know gas.
- 47:41Is more expensive where you live, but you, the audience
- 47:45who's emailing us right now at wasdbeyond@gmail.com that the
- 47:51gas is actually it's more expensive here.
