- 0:01Oh really, Yeah, get you get pulled out a little bit of back
- 0:04and get it wet and stick it on there and just let it see it's
- 0:08still in there. Am I that country? Wayne? That you didn't?
- 0:12Hey, listen, are you recording? This is important? Yeah? Start
- 0:15that video because this is this is important to me that we talk about this,
- 0:19the fact that you're a country radio personality and I get told every day
- 0:23that I'm not country, And you didn't know that you could put wet to
- 0:25back on a bee sting, and that was like a no brainer for me.
- 0:29You were confused. I was like, does anybody at your house smoke?
- 0:31He was like, why you want to come to smoke them? Mount?
- 0:32I was like, I'm not trying to get the bees high? What
- 0:34good morning? Ever? I mean good after, good evening everybody. Wayne
- 0:37d was stung by bees this morning and didn't know what to do about it.
- 0:41He thought I was gonna come over. What do you think I was
- 0:43gonna smoke a joint just all get rid of your bee problem? Is that
- 0:47I don't know what I was gonna do is take some wet back and throw
- 0:49it on the beast thing for you to go instantly, Well, let me
- 0:52know if you're not busy later. Yeah, I got you. This is
- 0:55a trick. If you put to back on, it would have quit hurting
- 0:57three hours. The last time you got stung by a bee, God,
- 1:00it's been a long time. That's I was like, it's wow, it's
- 1:03a different feeling. You know. What's messed up about that is it's gonna
- 1:06restrike that fear because you're at a place in life where you probably thought you
- 1:10because right now I'm like, bees don't sting people? You're fine? Yeah,
- 1:15right now, I'm like, bees don't really sting people. I bet
- 1:18you wish it was a wasp now because I ain't that the one that dies
- 1:19when it stings. It was out a myth. Anyways, one of them
- 1:23looses at stinger, It just leaves it in you. Yeah, so what
- 1:26But so these are like the little worker bees? Those do they sting and
- 1:30keep living? You know? Or is that the wasp? I don't know
- 1:33what I'm now, I'm confused. I know, Well, we don't have
- 1:37you forever. Otherwise I'd google be images and we would keep going. Okay,
- 1:41you don't like our bee talk rumor as jellyroll is also a massive celebrity
- 1:46music artists all over the place, Dode, I got to tell you and
- 1:49beekeeper, beekeeper, if would you ever keep bees? You know, I
- 1:53don't know, man, I'm scared of bees now. I forgot that it's
- 1:56stink people. I'm gonna look at them different the rest of the week.
- 1:57Now talk. I didn't know adults get stung by bees and twice it's fine,
- 2:05Well you were fighting a wop, I mean a group of them.
- 2:07It south. Listen. I'm telling you, if one day I saw on
- 2:09TikTok or Instagram that Bunny got into beekeeping, that wouldn't surprise me. Yeah,
- 2:15Bunny, listen right now. Bunny wants a crow. The bunny is
- 2:20obsessed with getting I know, y'all try I'm fighting this day. This is
- 2:23a thing, and it's like becoming obsession of hers. She has found out
- 2:27that you can be like the crow whisper and they'll bring you gifts and stuff.
- 2:30And I was like, I don't want a crow dropping dead rats on
- 2:32our porch just so you have an extra friend around the house. I was
- 2:36like, this is crazy. She's like they're great omens. I was like,
- 2:38I thought they were bad omens. But she also grew up in the
- 2:42in the West Coast where there's like, you know, it's crow city out
- 2:45there, dude, you know what I mean. It's a lot of crows.
- 2:46And down here I see a crow and I get nervous. And she's
- 2:50like, I want to we can get like we can get a murder of
- 2:52them or whatever they call, a big group of them. She's like,
- 2:53she has like a whole plan for us to get a group of crows that
- 2:57she wants to. She's like, you could teach them to talk. There's
- 3:00a whole thing like crow talk. You know, there's like dog talk,
- 3:02like on TikTok, there's crow talk. And if you want to get lost
- 3:05on something that weird, you out go watch these weird crow people. You're
- 3:08like, I love you, but watch that in the other room. This
- 3:10is happening every night. I get sent a new crow. Last night she
- 3:15text me at two two thirty in the morning and said, I'm gonna name
- 3:17our crow. I don't know, Willie or something, some you know,
- 3:21some kind of bunny name. And I was like, what crow. She's
- 3:23like, the one I'm manifesting. It's like bunny. I don't want to
- 3:24crow. Do you buy a crow like a petch. We got to catch
- 3:28a crow. I guess I don't know. I guess you Laurel men and
- 3:32you gotta get you like you gain their trust. It'd be like leaving a
- 3:36little steak out for a lie every night or a bear until it finally came
- 3:39was like, are you the person giving me the steaks? You know?
- 3:43And then they get it too. Yeah, yeah, for sure, That's
- 3:45what Bunny's on right now. Listen. I gotta tell you, it's been
- 3:47so fun to watch your rise from like all this guy's got a good song
- 3:52to like literally I saw you were just that North Dakota State Fair wasn't yes,
- 3:55and like director I was in million people were there like those we broke
- 4:00the This is the wildest thing for me to say right now. We did
- 4:02both North Dakota fairs. We did the Red River Valley Fair and we did
- 4:06the North DaCosta State fairlyre on op complete opposite sides of the state of North
- 4:10Dakota. Yeah, we broke the record of attendance at both fairs of the
- 4:15history of the fair. Just a punk kid from Antioch, dude, Yeah,
- 4:17just like absolute troublemaker kind of you know what I mean, Like still
- 4:21I mean, I'm a I'm a change man, but I'm far from redeemed,
- 4:25you know. So it's just unbelievable. Every every second of this to
- 4:30me is unreal. Every days any of it set in yet, though not
- 4:34yet, it's starting to get there. My manager finally sat down with me
- 4:38and was like, hey, man, this imposture thing you're feeling, you
- 4:40gotta let go of it. Was like, yeah, yeah, it's so
- 4:43hard. It's still and sometimes I tell him, I don't know if it's
- 4:46as much an imposture thing for me as it is just deep rudy gratitude of
- 4:49Like it's overwhelmingly emotional to stand on a stage in front of that many people.
- 4:55There's just something about that that's different, you know what I mean.
- 4:59So I don't think I'll ever get used to it, and Garth said I
- 5:01wouldn't. I talked to Garth Brooks about it because I think, you know,
- 5:04he's still we were talking about I was talking to somebody else about him.
- 5:09I was like, I feel like you watch him fight tears singing the
- 5:13dance, and he's been singing it for thirty years, you know what I
- 5:15mean? And I was like, I think that's how I feel about saving
- 5:17me the rest of my career. I'm gonna fight back tears every time I
- 5:20sing that song. It's such by the way you just put those two songs
- 5:25in the same breath. But yeah, they're not even by the way,
- 5:28they're not even comparable, but thank you, but they deserve you know what
- 5:30I mean. Like in that song, let me tell you something, as
- 5:31much as you're gonna imposter yourself and step back a little bit, that song
- 5:35is a bigger deal to some people than the dance, you know what I
- 5:38mean. Everybody has the dance to them and now that could be that.
- 5:42Yeah, I see, the dance is the dance to me. You know
- 5:44what I'm saying. I've cried to the dance as many times as Garth dads.
- 5:47You know what I'm saying. I want to talk more music and your
- 5:51rise, but part of that is Bunny has had her own rise in this
- 5:55whole thing, which your wife is, you know what I mean, like
- 5:58because she's by your side, but also she's like her own little fandom happening
- 6:00as well as much as she's along for the ride, but she's supportive,
- 6:05right, Like she's not like latching on and like, hey, I'm here
- 6:08too. Has there ever been talk of like her doing something with you?
- 6:13Oh yeah, no, you know she's doing a Meet and Gred on my
- 6:15tour. I know, yeah, entire meet Greed on my tour. She
- 6:17she got her own march. She's on the tour. She's her own thing.
- 6:21She always has been. I've been bringing Bunny on stage at my shows
- 6:27seven years when it was two hundred people in the crowd. Like, even
- 6:30then, when there was only two hundred people there, there was still a
- 6:33percentage enough of that crowd enough that cared about Bunny that it meant something to
- 6:38see her. And she's always had that connection. I think people see the
- 6:43I think what Bunny is is a little bit of this really cool factor that
- 6:47she doesn't. She's not who she looks like. Like if you judged Bunny
- 6:53on an Instagram of just pictures, you would never believe how charismatic and funny
- 6:59and arming and caring and loving she is. Right, It's like this intimidating,
- 7:04just bombshell beautiful sculpture of a blonde and then she sits down and she
- 7:10is the goofiest human I know on Earth. I have never met nobody cellier
- 7:14than that. Woman right there. She's blind, she can't see, you
- 7:16know what I'm saying. She hits walls, she's directionally challenged, you know
- 7:21what I mean? Yeah, for sure, it's goodness gracious. She curbs
- 7:26every rim she's ever had. But she is just something is so special about
- 7:30her spirit that it shines through and you don't expect it, you know,
- 7:32because she's got this. Like I'm still intimidated by Bunny. Like when she
- 7:36really does the Bunny like she comes out like them red carpets. I'm like,
- 7:40I get, I'm like, whoa, you know what I mean.
- 7:42Like she's like that captivating, but her personality is the polar opposite, you
- 7:46know what I mean. Would you guys ever record together? Yeah, we
- 7:50talked about all the time. Bunny can sing man. Bunny can really sing
- 7:54man. She used to sing way back in the day. I just think
- 7:56that she just doesn't have the I don't want to say the love for it.
- 7:59But it's not her thing, you know what I mean. Like she's
- 8:01willing to do it, and she'd do it with me, and she does
- 8:03a Christmas song every year for fun. Yeah, But I think Bunny is
- 8:05just more focused on connecting with people the way she knows how listen. And
- 8:09we always joke there's not room for two singers in this house. It's the
- 8:11reason I haven't started a podcast neither. You know what I'm saying so well,
- 8:16speaking of, I'm just saying I'm gonna I'm gonna put this idea out
- 8:18there. And if you've done already, I missed it. But imagine how
- 8:22cool it would be. Laney can't make it. Bunny fills in on stage.
- 8:26You think that song might make you cry already? Oh goodness, boy,
- 8:28Bunny came out singing it to me, I probably really cry. I
- 8:31kick her like, you better not feel that way about me. You take
- 8:35me back to when we first met you. The entourage was smaller. It
- 8:41was you, me, maybe one record label person. Your career is growing,
- 8:46your team is growing. At what point have you been able to stand
- 8:48back and be like, Holy, Kyle, hasn't been moving too quick for
- 8:54you to get to do No? I get every time I do stick.
- 8:56But I mean, even in the moment you just look around and realize it
- 8:58for what it is. You know, you just have those moments of clarity.
- 9:03That's just I don't even know how to describe it. Why And it's
- 9:05weird still. I say that word as like endearingly as I can, but
- 9:09it's extremely weird when it comes to the success you're having on the streaming and
- 9:16the ticket sales is one thing, but for that to marry itself to the
- 9:20success you're having on country radio. Obviously you're doing great things on rock radio
- 9:24as well, but we'll talk country. Is any of that Like, did
- 9:28you ever feel like, oh, we'll put the song out, but it
- 9:30ain't gonna work there. No. The rock success is cool, but it
- 9:33ain't gonna work there. No, it's I never thought, I don't.
- 9:37I just believe that it's real music for real people with real problems. And
- 9:41I knew that. To me, I made a decision early in my career
- 9:46that I chose connection over entertainment. Right. I'm just looking to connect with
- 9:50people, man, I'm looking to build people up. I'm looking to lift
- 9:52people up, and I think that comes through in the music. And I'm
- 9:56also willing to talk about the things that people aren't willing to talk about.
- 10:00One of the things I take the most pride and in this album is that
- 10:03there's a line in this album that says I didn't seen pain pills turned to
- 10:05needles. That was said on the number two Billboard Biggest Country Album Debut,
- 10:13You know what I mean, Like that was said on like I think we
- 10:15broke like a streaming record for a you know, like a debut country album
- 10:18or something like I'm talking about fitting all. I mean, this is real
- 10:20stuff that's really happening in our community. Meaning country music listeners too. They
- 10:26know how much this is running rampant through these small towns. You know.
- 10:30I just think the music connects in a real way. Well, that's something
- 10:33that that brings me back to the last time we caught up and you brought
- 10:37you brought up the the success of the song about the effect of drug use
- 10:41and whatever. I think I sent you the video or whatever and you posted
- 10:45it. But so from that to telling stories to getting out and performing them.
- 10:50You're also an artist who some people just go to a show. Oh,
- 10:52we go to a show, but like there's something different for you and
- 10:54I Bunny posted recently about it too, Like you're special, Like you're connecting,
- 10:58You're giving people a voice that that maybe didn't have one before. Do
- 11:03you feel like wake up with a different sense of responsibility now that you're on
- 11:05a bigger stage for that. No, I wake up with more of a
- 11:09responsibility of just making sure that I'm being an example to Like I'm more conscious
- 11:13now than ever of like knowing that children are watching me. I wasn't really
- 11:20conscious of that before, you know what I mean, Like it wasn't even
- 11:22though it's probably happening, It's like it was a second thought to me.
- 11:26Like my set's pretty vulgar, and I'm still tone it back a little more
- 11:28every day, you know what I mean, And it's always gonna be a
- 11:31little vulgar because this is a this is you know, country, hip hop
- 11:33and rock and roll. But to me, I'm more conscious of, like
- 11:37just want to make sure that I'm doing the right thing about these kids that
- 11:39are watching you. Go from from doing the hip hop is really what like
- 11:46gave you the confidence to perform in the first place, right, Yeah,
- 11:50going from that to where you are today. You talked about kids. I
- 11:52mean, I saw he was probably on your Instagram kids holding up. You
- 11:56know, I'm a son of a sinner, But you're getting You're getting.
- 12:00You're getting anything from a five year old kid holding a sign supporting one of
- 12:03your songs to a forty fifty year old guy buying t shirts at merch knowing
- 12:09that you literally are affecting that completely different generations right right now. It's crazy,
- 12:13man, I think I look at it like this. We didn't get
- 12:16the opportunity to do that as kids because of the way touring worked, but
- 12:20we felt the same. Like, I think people forget how much music is
- 12:24a part of a household, right, Like when I was a kid,
- 12:26we all listen to the same music, Like this was a thing. Like
- 12:28we would get around to listen to music together, Like we would sit on
- 12:33the back porch or sit around a fire, or go to bonfires, and
- 12:37you know what I mean, Like, we would listen to music as a
- 12:39family. And I think it's cool that I that that still happens. And
- 12:41I think you see that at the show. That's why the fan base rages
- 12:45so far, is that families are still sitting there hanging out and talking to
- 12:48each other and listening to music. And it's it's still a communal thing.
- 12:52Man, Does celebrating a number one blow your mind? Yet? Every time?
- 12:58Dude, I just had two weeks of rock number one, second number
- 13:01one at rock, both of them are two week number one. Here we
- 13:03come on the edge of having a number one on country radio right now while
- 13:07we're talking. But the biggest song of my career by a country Now,
- 13:11let me tell you how it works as an artist. If these other artists
- 13:13are afraid to tell you this, let me give you some game. You're
- 13:15ready. When they come in and we have our first number one, we
- 13:18secretly leave and think it's over. That's it. I will never have another
- 13:22song bigger than that one. For sure. Where are we? You know,
- 13:26like nobody leaves, Like I'm going to just start running them up the
- 13:28pipeline. Everybody leaves, and if they don't walk out of here feeling that
- 13:33way, they don't deserve what they have. You immediately leave like this is
- 13:37it. I'm not There's not gonna be a bigger moment for me. And
- 13:39then I dropped Son of a Center and I'm like, this is crazy because
- 13:45I had a moment I dropped Saving and went viral. I was like,
- 13:46this is it. This will be the song that I'll you know whatever.
- 13:50Yeah, And then after Son of a Center, I was kind of certain.
- 13:52I was like, you know, the newness was over right. I'm
- 13:56a part of the family now I've been accepted by the country music community.
- 14:00Now the records have to stand, you know, and Need a Favor is
- 14:05by every benchmark, from what I hear from my friends at radio, to
- 14:09what I hear from my streaming partners to what I see in the analytics,
- 14:13is going to end up smoking every song I've ever had by not even a
- 14:18close range. It's gonna It's crazy. What need I think. Need a
- 14:22Favor is still in the top fifteen on the Billboard Hot one hundred right now.
- 14:26It's insane how big that song is? Bigger than me and I'm huge
- 14:30as far as like as a human, Like that song is bigger than me
- 14:33as my person. You know what I'm saying. That song is like it's
- 14:35for the first time in my career, I have a song where people don't
- 14:39know me, and somebody will go, that's the dude that sings the need
- 14:41a Favorite song. I talked to God when I need a favor and guys
- 14:43are like, oh, you're that guy. Let's take a picture. You
- 14:46know, It's like, no clue. It's cool. It's funny because I'll
- 14:48say I'm that guy too, just to see if I can get a free
- 14:50drink. So it never works. Where's the face tut. The last thing
- 14:56I want to ask you is the collab with Landey is obviously doing phenomenal collabs
- 15:01have become so massive in country. You've gotten really close with with Ernest.
- 15:05I loved Ernest even told a story at one of your number one parties,
- 15:09one of the many, but Ernest told a story about like he used to
- 15:15look up to you, like he used to watch you do your thing.
- 15:18Be like man, Jelly, that's like someday that's gonna be the guy.
- 15:22Uh. Knowing what Ernest and Hardy and Morgan have done, and you guys
- 15:26are all like kind of in that same camp together. The way you've come
- 15:28up is there is there anything coming? Are you guys working on stuff together,
- 15:33whether it's whether it be Hardy, Ernest Morgan. Oh yeah, no,
- 15:35we all talk. And of course me and Ernest are gonna you know,
- 15:39that's one of my best friends in life and music. I talked to
- 15:43Hardy all the time. I think I think we're talking. I don't know
- 15:45I'm allowed to say it, but I think we're talking about doing something for
- 15:46one of the next Higgs tapes. Sure, Hardy Wooden Man, that's my
- 15:48boy. Sorry, Hardy, I love you. But yeah, we're talking
- 15:50about doing something for one of the Higgs tapes. And of course you know,
- 15:52Hardy wrote on my record with me. Yeah, I'm hoping to do
- 15:56a collab with him. I want to tour with him, of course I
- 15:58want to. I think me, me and Hardy lay in gel Roal tour
- 16:00would be just a circus. I think it'd be why I'd be pandamoni him.
- 16:03These are my boys too, man. More than anything, I just
- 16:06value our friendship. I think we'll all work together because we're so quite close.
- 16:10You know, Morgan is the biggest artist on planet Earth, arguably the
- 16:15biggest artist on not America, I mean on Earth. And this dude is
- 16:18such a sweet dude that he'll just check in on me. Man, you
- 16:22know what I mean, to show you the character of that dude. Like
- 16:23I'm doing eighteen maybe ten percent seven percent of the streams he's doing today and
- 16:29I can't find time to check on myself, you know what I mean.
- 16:33And this dude is like, that's how good of a dude. So like
- 16:34anytime that dude texts me, I feel like I'm getting a text from you
- 16:37know, Donald Trump or something like it's like big, I'm like, whoa,
- 16:41this dude's got time to text me and that's just who he is though,
- 16:44you know what I mean. So it's been really cool. But I
- 16:47say this, I'll give you this teaser. Outside of my friend group,
- 16:51other friends I have that are like in the country music space that are good,
- 16:53good friends of mine. I won't say their names because we do got
- 16:56a lot coming out. I got some real collapse coming I'm not here collabing
- 17:00like a hip hop artist. I got. I brought all my homies together.
- 17:03It's cool. It's fun, dude, it's great. It's We're in
- 17:06the coolest moment of country music, I think in a long time right now,
- 17:11not even just because of me, because of guys like Morgan and Luke
- 17:14Combs and the success of Fast Card and Last Night and guys like Tyler Childers
- 17:18who will just sell out thirty thousand seats anywhere in America at any time.
- 17:22I think country music has never been broader, never been more accepted nationally,
- 17:26and never been cooler than it is right now, except for like maybe the
- 17:30seventies and the nineties, which had like really memorably cool moments. Dude,
- 17:33Jelly can't wait to see what's the next brother Ye Love you Bubba.
