- 0:01Speaker 1: Thanks, Mike. Another 6-1 win for your guys over Calgary
- 0:03Speaker 1: two nights ago. Very similar output to night one in Calgary.
- 0:08Speaker 1: What did you like about your team's 60-minute game? I
- 0:11Speaker 1: thought I.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Liked our ability and our willingness to shoot the puck
- 0:17Speaker 2: into the net. We took advantage of our opportunities. I
- 0:21Speaker 2: like that. We kind of put them on their heels
- 0:25Speaker 2: when we were scoring. I thought that our start was
- 0:28Speaker 2: okay and I thought our goaltender was good. So You know,
- 0:32Speaker 2: I think I'd like to see us a little better
- 0:35Speaker 2: off the starts so that Joey doesn't have to make,
- 0:39Speaker 2: you know, or Phillip doesn't have to make save after
- 0:41Speaker 2: save before we get going. So that's kind of a
- 0:44Speaker 2: focus for tonight's game. But certainly there was a lot
- 0:47Speaker 2: of things to like about the game. And we're continuing
- 0:51Speaker 2: to grow into our structure, some of our structure thought
- 0:54Speaker 2: processes through the neutral zone.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I know it's early, but you want to nip the
- 0:58Speaker 1: bad habits early in the bud. When you're looking at
- 1:02Speaker 1: starts and trying to get off to the right foot,
- 1:05Speaker 1: what is it? Is it something you can tell the guys?
- 1:07Speaker 1: Can you practice getting off to good starts? How does
- 1:11Speaker 1: that come into your game?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Oh, we haven't necessarily, like I say, we haven't necessarily
- 1:14Speaker 2: had what I would call bad starts. On the other team, actually,
- 1:19Speaker 2: they're out on the ice playing too. So they're involved
- 1:23Speaker 2: in the game as well. It's a tough league, the
- 1:26Speaker 2: National Hockey League. To answer your question, it's just a
- 1:28Speaker 2: focus thing. And I think our guys have been focused.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But things happen. There's maybe certain areas, certain situations. I
- 1:39Speaker 2: thought we put ourselves in penalty trouble in Edmonton. And
- 1:42Speaker 2: that's something that we.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Don't want to do. 13, 14 guys have found their
- 1:46Speaker 1: way onto the score sheet the first three games of
- 1:48Speaker 1: the season. How important is that to build confidence and
- 1:50Speaker 1: to see everyone getting their touches and putting up their
- 1:53Speaker 1: points early on?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's important, certainly. I think that we
- 1:57Speaker 2: have tried to and done a pretty good job of
- 2:01Speaker 2: distributing our ice time evenly or somewhat evenly. Everybody matters
- 2:07Speaker 2: on this hockey team, and everybody has a role. We
- 2:11Speaker 2: want to make sure that everybody gets involved, so it's
- 2:13Speaker 2: nice to see the score sheet doing that as well.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Mackie Samuskiewicz came as advertised in his second game in
- 2:19Speaker 1: Kraken Colors, two goals in that contest. What does he
- 2:21Speaker 1: bring to this lineup now that you've seen him in
- 2:23Speaker 1: a regular season game? You've been able to coach him
- 2:26Speaker 1: now through preseason and training camp. What has he brought
- 2:29Speaker 1: to this group that you felt was missing the last year?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Well, I just think that, you know, he adds another
- 2:36Speaker 2: element of speed, which we talk about. We want to
- 2:40Speaker 2: be a fast team. And he's got, you know, obviously
- 2:43Speaker 2: he's got some skill around the net and can shoot
- 2:46Speaker 2: the puck. So, Certainly he adds an element of offense
- 2:49Speaker 2: to our hockey team. And the other thing he adds
- 2:51Speaker 2: is you want to watch them play the game, the
- 2:54Speaker 2: little things that maybe fans don't appreciate or see. You
- 2:59Speaker 2: can tell he's played in Florida on a team that
- 3:03Speaker 2: won a couple Stanley Cups. And so there's certain things
- 3:06Speaker 2: in the game that can become contagious that you see
- 3:11Speaker 2: him doing that are what I would consider winning hockey plays.
- 3:14Speaker 2: In a minute.
- 3:15Speaker 1: As a coach do you find yourself leaning on players
- 3:19Speaker 1: like that Montour who also won a cup Stevenson who
- 3:21Speaker 1: won with Vegas not too long ago when you look
- 3:24Speaker 1: at some of these players in the room who've had
- 3:26Speaker 1: success how much are you leaning on them to have
- 3:29Speaker 1: those good winning habits filter out throughout the rest of.
- 3:32Speaker 2: The room well I think it's important to get people
- 3:34Speaker 2: in that room that have had that kind of success
- 3:37Speaker 2: as well and to you know help push guys along
- 3:41Speaker 2: there's no question about it we've got a few of
- 3:43Speaker 2: them on there that have won Stanley Cups and so
- 3:46Speaker 2: As far as that's concerned, it's nice to see them
- 3:51Speaker 2: have been in those situations and lead by example.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Very familiar with the Vegas Golden Knights, the second-to-last game
- 3:58Speaker 1: of the season for you guys last year, so still
- 4:00Speaker 1: very fresh. They've got a couple of strong offensive players
- 4:04Speaker 1: in their room, and Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner. What
- 4:06Speaker 1: can the Kraken expect out of them, and how will
- 4:09Speaker 1: this opponent be different from the first two games against
- 4:12Speaker 1: Calgary and even Edmonton?
- 4:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean, there's, you know, our game doesn't change.
- 4:20Speaker 2: It doesn't matter who we play. You know, there's good
- 4:24Speaker 2: teams that you play every night. You know, obviously Vegas,
- 4:28Speaker 2: like you say, they have Marner, they have Eichel. You know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: there's Hurdle, there's Stone. You know, the list kind of
- 4:34Speaker 2: goes on and on. They play a little bit of
- 4:37Speaker 2: a different brand maybe in terms of, you know, getting
- 4:41Speaker 2: to the net and getting bucks to the net and
- 4:43Speaker 2: things like that. So, you know, maybe the game changes
- 4:46Speaker 2: a little bit there, but I want us to keep
- 4:48Speaker 2: playing our game.
