- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is great to be here again. Lucas: We have been talking about winter cabins and skiing gear lately. Luna: Yes. But today we are stepping outside. Lucas: Exactly. Imagine you are in a new city. You are walking down a street. Luna: It is cold. The air is crisp. You look at your map. Lucas: You do not know where you are going. You need help. Luna: Oh no. I hate being lost. That is scary. Lucas: It is not scary if you know how to ask. Let us learn that. Luna: Okay. How do I start? Do I just shout? Lucas: No shouting. Politeness is key in Italy. We use 'Scusi'. Luna: Scusi. Okay. That sounds respectful. Lucas: Yes. 'Scusi' means excuse me or sorry to bother you. Luna: And then what? Do I say where I am? Lucas: No. You ask where something is. Let us try our first phrase. Luna: Ready. Give it to me. Lucas: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Luna: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Lucas: Perfect. 'Dov'è' means where is. 'La stazione' means the station. Luna: So I am asking where the train station is. Lucas: Exactly. Now let us repeat it together. Slowly. Luna: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Lucas: Again. With a little more confidence. Luna: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Lucas: Good. Now imagine someone points and says 'Go straight'. Luna: Oh, I like going straight. That is easy. Lucas: The phrase is 'Vado dritto'. Luna: Vado dritto. Lucas: Listen closely. 'Vado' means I go. 'Dritto' means straight. Luna: Vado dritto. So I am telling them I will go straight. Lucas: Correct. Or they might tell you to turn right. Luna: Turning can be tricky. My left and right are mixed up sometimes. Lucas: That is normal. The phrase for turn right is 'Giri a destra'. Luna: Giri a destra. Lucas: Yes. 'Giri' is the formal command for turn. 'A destra' is to the right. Luna: Giri a destra. I remember that one well. Lucas: Let us practice the flow. You ask, they answer. Luna: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Lucas: They say: Vado dritto. Giri a destra. Luna: Wow. That feels like a real conversation. Lucas: It is. But what if they say it is far? Luna: Oh. Then I need to know how far. Lucas: You ask: È lontano? Luna: È lontano? Lucas: Yes. 'È' means it is. 'Lontano' means far. Luna: È lontano? Is it far? Lucas: Exactly. This covers the whole interaction. Luna: I feel much braver now. No more panic. Lucas: Before we go deeper, I want to check in with you. Luna: Sure. What is on your mind? Lucas: If learning Italian feels manageable to you, consider supporting the show. Lucas: Second phrase: Vado dritto. Luna: Vado dritto. Lucas: Third phrase: Giri a destra. Luna: Giri a destra. Lucas: Fourth phrase: È lontano? Luna: È lontano? Lucas: Great job. Try saying all four in order. Luna: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Vado dritto. Giri a destra. È lontano? Lucas: That was smooth. You are getting the rhythm. Luna: I still feel a bit nervous about the pronunciation. Lucas: Do not worry. It comes with time. Just keep practicing. Luna: Okay. I will say them while I walk around my room. Lucas: That is a good idea. Visualize the street too. Luna: I see myself asking a stranger. He smiles and points. Lucas: See? It is a friendly exchange. Not a test. Luna: Right. It is just two people helping each other. Lucas: Precisely. And you are building that skill right now. Luna: I appreciate that. It makes it less intimidating. Lucas: One more time for the road. Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Luna: Scusi, dov'è la stazione? Lucas: Vado dritto. Luna: Vado dritto. Lucas: Giri a destra. Luna: Giri a destra. Lucas: È lontano? Luna: È lontano? Lucas: You did it.
