- 0:55Speaker 2: we got a special guest in here, Tony Coles, welcome
- 0:59Speaker 2: a lot of people. People might not know you by
- 1:02Speaker 2: your face, no, but they know you by your music.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You're a producer, yes, sir, and you're I would say,
- 1:09Speaker 2: the architect of a lot of the sound that Big
- 1:14Speaker 2: X the Plug has been, I mean the last few years,
- 1:18Speaker 2: just been putting in this work with these samples and
- 1:20Speaker 2: all that ship. Where you from?
- 1:22Speaker 1: You from Dallas? Dallas? I would say Norwich from hills
- 1:25Speaker 1: like North Forward. Okay, that's pretty bad, but I'll just
- 1:27Speaker 1: say Dallas because usually no people.
- 1:30Speaker 2: When people for sure, it's like when like people ask
- 1:33Speaker 2: O T like where he's from these like Houston but
- 1:34Speaker 2: Bay Cities. Yeah, yeah, that type of deal.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Definitely that type of deal. But yeah, like I would
- 1:38Speaker 1: say Dallas Forward.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So how long have you been making beats?
- 1:43Speaker 1: Taking it? Seriously? Shit, I've probably been. It's just like
- 1:47Speaker 1: maybe like twenty nineteen, Okay, as far as like me
- 1:49Speaker 1: like saying, all right, I'm gonna see what this hit
- 1:51Speaker 1: can do for me. You know what I'm saying. Before that, though,
- 1:53Speaker 1: like I would make beats like in high school maybe
- 1:56Speaker 1: like starting like twenty seventeen or something.
- 1:59Speaker 2: No, it was garage man, on my mom's phone.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Was where it's on my phone.
- 2:03Speaker 2: On my mom's phone.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, because I didn't have an iPhone until like I
- 2:06Speaker 1: was a junior in college.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So once twenty nineteen hits and you start taking it serious.
- 2:10Speaker 1: What are you using? Yeah? By that time, yeah, I'm
- 2:12Speaker 1: using like logic, I'm on logic.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So you're a logic guy, right, like right to this day,
- 2:16Speaker 2: you do.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You're on logic, straight logic.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I know how to use FL but like logic is
- 2:20Speaker 2: like my my go to. People love logic. This guy
- 2:22Speaker 2: loves logic.
- 2:24Speaker 1: My producer he does.
- 2:25Speaker 2: You're an FL guy, but you know how.
- 2:27Speaker 1: To use logic though, use or yeah. See, it's just
- 2:31Speaker 1: it's a it's like it's just different for different people.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I think the workflow and logic is easier than FL
- 2:35Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So, uh, how long have you actually been like locked
- 2:41Speaker 2: in with X and the six hundred guys.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I probably met X back and we met X right
- 2:48Speaker 1: after you got signed with you, so like twenty twenty two,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and we were actually talking about this not too long ago.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Like I didn't realize how early I came in, Like
- 2:55Speaker 1: I was just I had just seen them and I
- 2:57Speaker 1: was like Damn, I got some beats already, like that
- 2:59Speaker 1: shit with me, see what I can do. But like
- 3:01Speaker 1: yeah twenty twenty two, Yeah, like this hole in the
- 3:04Speaker 1: wall bar, no one's there, Like I connect with Bubba
- 3:07Speaker 1: shout out DJ Yeah, connected with him like I'm just
- 3:11Speaker 1: trying to get beasta bro, and he's like, shit you
- 3:13Speaker 1: are I said.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, yeah, so ship.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I sent him a pack and ship fifteen beats in
- 3:21Speaker 1: the hook. That's like where like levels came from? Dream?
- 3:25Speaker 2: Well, you're like you developed your drop after some time, right,
- 3:31Speaker 2: Like your tag wasn't on like the earlier stuff. No,
- 3:35Speaker 2: yeah it was, It was just wasn't as loud. It
- 3:38Speaker 2: definitely wasn't as loud.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I remember because I would like kind of like intentionally
- 3:41Speaker 1: turn it down because like I don't want it to
- 3:43Speaker 1: be too right in the way. But now it's like
- 3:45Speaker 1: no production. Yeah for sure.
- 3:49Speaker 2: What what would you say? Like, because I feel like
- 3:51Speaker 2: you guys are like, I mean, ship man, you guys
- 3:54Speaker 2: are bringing the sample ship back to hip hop right now. No,
- 3:57Speaker 2: for sure, And it's been dope to just see like
- 4:00Speaker 2: other artists like you, Like obviously you guys are influenced
- 4:04Speaker 2: a lot of Ship. That's going on right now, because
- 4:06Speaker 2: I've heard a lot. I've heard a lot of other
- 4:07Speaker 2: new artists that are coming up, and it sounds like, oh,
- 4:08Speaker 2: this sounds like some big X beats. You know what
- 4:10Speaker 2: I'm saying right Like the fact you guys are able
- 4:12Speaker 2: to develop this sound and turn it into like massive genre. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 2: that's that's you guys has his own genre. Yeah, because
- 4:21Speaker 2: it's like the thing about X is like he'll have
- 4:23Speaker 2: records like well, you're not sure where the hook is,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but they'll be gold, yeah, you know, and that and
- 4:29Speaker 2: then but then but then, like recently, you know, obviously
- 4:31Speaker 2: he's been catching records, like real records of radio like
- 4:33Speaker 2: largest in two AM's Top twenty.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Uh this Bailey zimmerament. Did you do the Bailey?
- 4:39Speaker 1: No, that was a bad play, shout out band play
- 4:41Speaker 1: and Charlie Cooks that's fucking fire.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a it's but you did two Am. Two
- 4:47Speaker 2: am was aimame on my neck.
- 4:49Speaker 1: He did the sample of great record, but every you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: everything else though, Yeah, the largest, the largest. Yeah, me
- 4:54Speaker 1: and band.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Playing like it's like a who's in the crew.
- 4:59Speaker 1: It's me, me, band play, Charlie Cooks and we just
- 5:04Speaker 1: started working with Dave. I believe his last name is
- 5:07Speaker 1: pronounced Cohen, but yeah, Dave. And so it's just like
- 5:11Speaker 1: now it's like currently the four of us working.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But so who's like uh like because some of these
- 5:16Speaker 2: samples you guys use are like pretty sick, like are
- 5:20Speaker 2: you digging for samples like on YouTube?
- 5:23Speaker 1: I ain't gonna lie, bro it come how I come.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Sometimes it's like bro, bro like will already like have
- 5:29Speaker 1: an idea? I have an idea, like like the Law
- 5:31Speaker 1: and Order beat like we had he was watching Law
- 5:34Speaker 1: and Order in the LA B and B was like,
- 5:36Speaker 1: hey Tom, you get up this type of deal and
- 5:39Speaker 1: I did it.
- 5:39Speaker 2: We couldn't use the actual samples, so.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Actually me and well I actually remade it in and
- 5:44Speaker 1: there I had Charlie played my guitar part, but like
- 5:46Speaker 1: we like interpolated and everything, but it will be happening
- 5:49Speaker 1: like that or we'll actually have beats already. And you know,
- 5:53Speaker 1: I'm a you know I love old school music. I
- 5:55Speaker 1: didn't like, I really didn't start listening to rap music too.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I was like, maybe like in high.
- 6:01Speaker 2: School old school to you, then old school to me
- 6:03Speaker 2: is like.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Steve Wonder Okay, that's that's actual Michael Jackson like sometimes
- 6:10Speaker 1: old school Nelly. Yeah, No, I'm I'm like I'm old
- 6:14Speaker 1: School's fifty sack like in my brain, you know, I'm
- 6:18Speaker 1: back then, you know what I'm saying, Like all that
- 6:19Speaker 1: seventies eighties music, Like that's that's what I love for,
- 6:22Speaker 1: like with the you say, Nelly and stuff like that,
- 6:26Speaker 1: like that whole generation likes because how are you twenty four? Okay?
- 6:32Speaker 2: So yeah, so that's that's quite literally old school for
- 6:35Speaker 2: you though.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah. But even like even like ship that came in
- 6:38Speaker 1: made a little afeel, like the like the graduation ship
- 6:40Speaker 1: with like Kanye and shit like that's.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Do you feel like do you feel like because the
- 6:47Speaker 2: other thing that I really obviously you know, X does
- 6:50Speaker 2: what he does. I just had real soon and I
- 6:52Speaker 2: was just giving him props because you know, obviously those
- 6:55Speaker 2: guys rap what they rap and bang with they bang.
- 6:57Speaker 2: But I feel like what I appreciate about, uh, the
- 7:01Speaker 2: six hundred entertainment out of Dallas is while it is
- 7:05Speaker 2: street rooted, it feels very positive in terms of the energy.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Definitely, we're yeah, we're trying to change like the whole.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Man Dallas man. Fuck, it's like every time up up,
- 7:15Speaker 2: before X, it just felt like there was just so
- 7:17Speaker 2: much violence and so much negativity, and it's like already
- 7:20Speaker 2: kind of like a city that didn't really have an
- 7:22Speaker 2: identity for so many years. It was like Dureaux, you
- 7:25Speaker 2: know what I'm saying, and and the Dougie Dude by
- 7:28Speaker 2: Dougie Lil Will oh yeah, yeah yeah. But like it
- 7:31Speaker 2: was really like there really wasn't like and then obviously
- 7:33Speaker 2: there was a few artists that really got big and
- 7:35Speaker 2: they all ended up beating with each other, and you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: not to get into the specifics, but it felt like
- 7:39Speaker 2: there was just a lot of negative energy out of Dallas,
- 7:41Speaker 2: and like X comes through and like you guys are
- 7:43Speaker 2: wrapping your ass off and just doing like I guess
- 7:47Speaker 2: just that's one thing. It's like this dude came through
- 7:50Speaker 2: and just kind of the Texas record is what really kicked.
- 7:53Speaker 1: That's what kicked it off, for sure. Yeah, that's what
- 7:55Speaker 1: kicked it off. But I can attest to that for sure.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Like we're trying to, especially with the next project we
- 7:59Speaker 1: got coming out, like it's all get money, all elevate yourself,
- 8:04Speaker 1: all get better, whether it is financial or not. Just
- 8:07Speaker 1: make yourself better. Like we're on. That's what we're on.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Even like the storytelling on like two am, it's so fire.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It's like, yo, who's fucking telling stories? Like we need
- 8:14Speaker 2: more storytelling? Yeah right, I would push the radio.
- 8:17Speaker 1: That was definitely all all him on that he was
- 8:19Speaker 1: because he had heard the beat and he was like,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I think, I think I know I want to do this.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I think I know I want to do this. So
- 8:23Speaker 1: you know the way he the way he prepares, like
- 8:25Speaker 1: he'll he'll sit and write for a good minute, Like
- 8:27Speaker 1: we'll have the beat play for a good little minute
- 8:30Speaker 1: and he'll.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Just write to it, and we would never know like
- 8:32Speaker 2: how he's going to write it?
- 8:33Speaker 1: No, who do it on his phone? Wow?
- 8:36Speaker 2: But he's right, he's like type it out lyrics.
- 8:38Speaker 1: See.
- 8:38Speaker 2: To me, that's another important thing because I feel like
- 8:40Speaker 2: punching in has ruined lyricism to an extent. I kind
- 8:45Speaker 2: of agree with that because you'll be in the studio
- 8:47Speaker 2: with someone and you'll watch them. I have a studio here,
- 8:49Speaker 2: so like I'll be in the studio and I watch
- 8:51Speaker 2: people punch in, and it's like there's not really much
- 8:52Speaker 2: thought into like what you're doing because you're just trying
- 8:55Speaker 2: to like fill in the melody, just get to the
- 8:58Speaker 2: next line, as opposed to like really trying to.
- 9:01Speaker 1: See Yeah, like I said, like that, in my opinion,
- 9:04Speaker 1: there's like there's different vibes for rap. I'm saying, like
- 9:08Speaker 1: you know, you got your turn up music, or they're
- 9:10Speaker 1: not really saying nothing, you got your you know, you
- 9:12Speaker 1: know you're real like intricate, like well thoughts. So it's
- 9:15Speaker 1: all it's all different vibes, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But I think, yeah, punching is kind of like there's
- 9:21Speaker 1: a there's a time for it, you know what I'm saying.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Do you feel like, uh, you know, I feel like
- 9:26Speaker 2: the other cool thing. I was just talking with somebody.
- 9:28Speaker 2: I was just talking with Jelly about this because I
- 9:30Speaker 2: know him and Next keeps sending each other records and
- 9:32Speaker 2: they can't they haven't met on one yet, That's what
- 9:35Speaker 2: Jelly said. But what I like about X is the
- 9:39Speaker 2: ship he's doing in the country world. It's not like
- 9:42Speaker 2: he's like bringing country damn near to like his world
- 9:45Speaker 2: because he's not like these are like trap beats he's
- 9:49Speaker 2: rapping on, you know what I'm saying, Like the ship
- 9:51Speaker 2: with shaboozy this new record, like like he's not fucking singing,
- 9:56Speaker 2: he's wrapping his ass off on these countries.
- 9:58Speaker 1: It's it's exciting in a way because it's like it's, damn,
- 10:01Speaker 1: You're new genre exactly like it's it's it's a as
- 10:05Speaker 1: we're going through trying to make and finalize like the
- 10:08Speaker 1: country shit, like we've been basically okay, what does this
- 10:12Speaker 1: even sound? Like? Like what is this even and as
- 10:14Speaker 1: we're going along, okay, well this is kind of like
- 10:15Speaker 1: maybe the vibe going for And it's like you said,
- 10:18Speaker 1: created up, created, created, It's created a whole new genre,
- 10:24Speaker 1: new vibe, new sound. What I'm saying like me being
- 10:26Speaker 1: a person who's like I love all kinds of music,
- 10:29Speaker 1: but like country, I want to say it's the first
- 10:30Speaker 1: thing I play when I get in the car, but
- 10:32Speaker 1: like being able to merge these two vibes and be
- 10:35Speaker 1: able to create this sound on top of us already
- 10:38Speaker 1: having a new sound and new vibe, like it's.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Was the Bailey Zermanman records something that you guys said
- 10:46Speaker 2: to him or how did that?
- 10:48Speaker 1: How did that?
- 10:49Speaker 2: I know you didn't do the beat, but was that
- 10:51Speaker 2: something where because.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Oh we actually I think we actually pissed it from
- 10:55Speaker 1: Morgan first. Yeah, and whoever is probably in his his team,
- 11:00Speaker 1: like what about this guy? What about Bailey? Yeah? So
- 11:05Speaker 1: I can't remember how I just remember because so much music.
- 11:08Speaker 2: What has been your first what was your first plaque?
- 11:09Speaker 2: You got, first certification?
- 11:11Speaker 1: First certification was I think it was Levels Gold? Yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 1: Levels Gold, which I think Levels now is double platinum
- 11:20Speaker 1: or it should be certified as double platinum now or
- 11:23Speaker 1: almost for sure.
- 11:24Speaker 2: But his Levels the record where he runs out of
- 11:26Speaker 2: breath at the end, been popping.
- 11:29Speaker 1: My ship on a whole nother.
- 11:30Speaker 2: No, I know, I know, yeah, but no, there's what's
- 11:33Speaker 2: the record where he's like banging crip like that? What's
- 11:40Speaker 2: the Hey, I don't mean I played hot hockey, yees
- 11:46Speaker 2: something like Ricky Babby.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Why I should be able to know that?
- 11:49Speaker 2: Did you do that record? No? That was that was
- 11:50Speaker 2: before I came that before I came in. Yeah, that
- 11:53Speaker 2: was the one that was the coolest thing I ever
- 11:55Speaker 2: seen a rapper do where he ran out of breath
- 11:57Speaker 2: and kept the take. Yeah, what I don't remember. It's
- 12:00Speaker 2: not a big step.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It's safe house.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Safe House was his his?
- 12:06Speaker 1: Like it's a city like in the city like popping.
- 12:09Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, Like, oh.
- 12:10Speaker 1: This shit hard? Yeah, sod.
- 12:13Speaker 2: So for you, like what would be advice you would
- 12:15Speaker 2: give up and coming producers, because I feel like I
- 12:19Speaker 2: feel like the best way to pop is and correct
- 12:23Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong, if you think, but what kind
- 12:24Speaker 2: of the route you guys are taking? And that's like
- 12:26Speaker 2: building with an artist on the ground, for sure, That's
- 12:30Speaker 2: the way I did it. For sure.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I think that's like a very good efficient way.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Like if you find someone in your city that's got
- 12:35Speaker 2: some motion, build with them, build.
- 12:37Speaker 1: A sound, build with them, build a sound. Like you know,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you can always shoot out beats and emails and stuff
- 12:41Speaker 1: like that, but I think actually getting in locking in
- 12:43Speaker 1: with somebody is good. Now I'm not going to say,
- 12:46Speaker 1: like go exactly do that because like I don't know,
- 12:49Speaker 1: like I was going to.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Say, everyone has a different path, right exactly.
- 12:51Speaker 1: And that's why it's kind of hard for me to
- 12:52Speaker 1: like give advice in a way because it's like everyone's
- 12:55Speaker 1: life isn't curated the same way, Like everybody don't have
- 12:58Speaker 1: the same schedule. So it's like but I mean, I'll
- 13:01Speaker 1: show you what work.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I can tell you what worked for me.
- 13:02Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, locking in with one artist
- 13:04Speaker 1: and just punching and see how it goes.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You know, been uh like a nice like have you
- 13:10Speaker 2: been able to expand like working with other artists just
- 13:13Speaker 2: based on the success you've had, Like.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That's actually that's where I'm in the process of it
- 13:16Speaker 1: right now. There's I got stuff. I actually can't talk
- 13:19Speaker 1: about it.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Right There's a lot of people are tapping.
- 13:22Speaker 1: In, there's stuff on the way, and then you know,
- 13:24Speaker 1: as my personal career is going along, I'm you know,
- 13:26Speaker 1: developing too.
- 13:27Speaker 2: But yeah, any other producers tap in with you and
- 13:30Speaker 2: be like yo, absolute like what you're doing is crazy.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So you know, some I want to say like directly
- 13:34Speaker 1: like DM with hey, bro, you're doing anything type of deal,
- 13:36Speaker 1: Like I don't know. I also don't really look for
- 13:38Speaker 1: that either, so it's like, yeah some of them do,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Like bands is really like the person I work with.
- 13:43Speaker 1: You know, there's I can't remember. There's other producers you.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Do you do you take loops from other producers, Like
- 13:50Speaker 2: if someone has like a dope sample and they're like, yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 2: someone's got.
- 13:53Speaker 1: A dope yeah, and it's hard. Yeah, I'll use it for.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Sure, but for the most part, you're chopping your own.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Either trop my own sample or just make my own
- 14:00Speaker 1: loops because I can play keys too. So it's like,
- 14:04Speaker 1: but if someone has a hard as sample or it's
- 14:05Speaker 1: in a it's in a different like uh like what
- 14:09Speaker 1: you say, like a different not different genre, but like
- 14:13Speaker 1: it's in a different like vibe outside of what I'm
- 14:16Speaker 1: already doing. Then like I'll take it, and then I'll
- 14:19Speaker 1: use that to either just learn you know what I'm saying,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and be like, Okay, what can I do to probably
- 14:24Speaker 1: make it myself now? You know what I'm saying, Like example,
- 14:27Speaker 1: like young Boy, Like if I want to make a
- 14:28Speaker 1: young boy loop, like I'm not, I would say I'm
- 14:30Speaker 1: the best at young boy loops, but I would listen
- 14:32Speaker 1: to other people shouldn't be Okay, those are the elements
- 14:34Speaker 1: they are using, you know what I'm saying. I'll still
- 14:36Speaker 1: use the loop, but then eventually I'll did.
- 14:38Speaker 2: You ever upload touff on YouTube? Like any type beats
- 14:41Speaker 2: or anything like that?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Uh? I really did start doing it till like a
- 14:46Speaker 1: few years ago, but like, yeah, I would a long
- 14:49Speaker 1: time ago. You know, I probably had like one or
- 14:51Speaker 1: two I do and then now it's like I got,
- 14:54Speaker 1: you know, just whatever I posted, but I do need
- 14:56Speaker 1: to do that more. I feel like I want to put.
- 14:58Speaker 2: More on you, just like a just you know. I mean,
- 15:01Speaker 2: but I'm sure you could get the leases cracking if
- 15:03Speaker 2: you really wanted to. Yeah, no, I could, I could.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I just I don't know. But it's like this at
- 15:09Speaker 2: this point, you could. You have all this success, It's
- 15:11Speaker 2: like you might as well start tappening with other artists. Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 2: that's that's really where we are right now.
- 15:15Speaker 1: For the people gets first DIBs, Yeah, pretty much. Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: he definitely gets first DIBs for sure. All like the
- 15:20Speaker 1: hottest anything that's hot that I made.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Roll Sma said, you guys are working on a new compilation.
- 15:25Speaker 2: New compilation, Yeah, new six Yeah uh. He said, there's
- 15:29Speaker 2: a new artist that got signed.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't I don't know.
- 15:31Speaker 2: If they want me to say the say the name
- 15:33Speaker 2: of the new album. He didn't say what it was,
- 15:36Speaker 2: but he just said, it's not that it's not Meet
- 15:37Speaker 2: the Sixers, you know, it's not. It's not like there's
- 15:39Speaker 2: a new name. And he said there's a new artist.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Do we know who the new artist is?
- 15:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Murder Game p B shout out murder Game PP.
- 15:44Speaker 1: If you're watching this okay from Dallas?
- 15:46Speaker 2: Yeah from Dolla or.
- 15:47Speaker 1: For Worth Yeah, hell yeah, for sure love him? Love them?
- 15:50Speaker 2: You think Dallas? Uh. I think Houston's probably top strip
- 15:55Speaker 2: club city in the country.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But I feel like.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Dallas is a little underrated. It's a little forgot about.
- 16:00Speaker 2: It's you got to think about Texas. You guys got
- 16:03Speaker 2: to be why I.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Be going, right, it's for me. Like I just started
- 16:08Speaker 1: tapping into the outside scene when I started, you know,
- 16:11Speaker 1: working with them, So it's like I know a little
- 16:13Speaker 1: bit about it, but you know, you know, you're not
- 16:16Speaker 1: the club guy.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Before I can be, I definitely can't be know what
- 16:19Speaker 2: I'm saying, But before you're you're like you would you
- 16:22Speaker 2: say you're more in the house, Like no.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Yeah, bro, Like for before I started doing this, like
- 16:26Speaker 1: all right, like I was going to school, but I
- 16:28Speaker 1: stopped going to school so I could, you know, kind
- 16:30Speaker 1: of focus on this. But I was working seven days
- 16:33Speaker 1: a week for like five years strong. I was working
- 16:35Speaker 1: at Chapotle in this place called Cowboy Chicken. I'll be
- 16:39Speaker 1: at chap I'll be at Cowboy Chicken Monday through Thursday,
- 16:42Speaker 1: and I'll be at Chapotle for the weekend. Yeah, and
- 16:46Speaker 1: then just seven days a week for like a good
- 16:49Speaker 1: a good ass minute, bro, damn. Just and after work,
- 16:52Speaker 1: after work every day, I just go to my computer,
- 16:54Speaker 1: make beats to about twelve one in the morning, just
- 16:57Speaker 1: do it all over again for a few years. So
- 16:59Speaker 1: it's like for the longest time, it's.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Like you had some real tenure at Chipotle. You said, what,
- 17:03Speaker 2: you had some tenure there.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yeah, so like I don't know's that's ship? It was
- 17:09Speaker 1: crazy thinking about it now, bro, It's it's really wild
- 17:12Speaker 1: because were.
- 17:13Speaker 2: You skimming on the ingredients? You know that? No, I
- 17:15Speaker 2: will bless the game, bless them.
- 17:17Speaker 1: No.
- 17:17Speaker 2: No, Yeah, they'd be.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Like, yeah, we're supposed to portion. You're supposed to portion
- 17:20Speaker 1: this much, you know, you know, don't give this not
- 17:23Speaker 1: a rise? Like nah, I'm you want to make a
- 17:25Speaker 1: chicken brot. Yeah, I was that worker because I didn't.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I didn't I knew what I wanted to do, So
- 17:32Speaker 1: it was like I'm not. No.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I feel like that's it's important because I feel like
- 17:36Speaker 2: a lot of times people probably have those type of
- 17:37Speaker 2: jobs and they have dreams and they feel like they're
- 17:40Speaker 2: so like unobtainable because you at the end of the day,
- 17:43Speaker 2: you got to show up to work schedule.
- 17:45Speaker 1: In my mind, I already knew, like especially like when
- 17:48Speaker 1: I told you I started taking it seriously. And that
- 17:50Speaker 1: was around COVID too, so I was locked in the
- 17:52Speaker 1: house for months, So that kind of helped me beyond
- 17:54Speaker 1: that every day ship. But like I don't know, I
- 17:57Speaker 1: already made up in my mind by that time when
- 17:59Speaker 1: I was working Pullet, like, I was like, I'm not
- 18:01Speaker 1: gonna be doing this forever, Bro, I'm not. This is
- 18:03Speaker 1: not it means to an end. Yeah, I'm not gonna
- 18:06Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do this because I was. I'm trying
- 18:08Speaker 1: to tell you, Bro, I was literally seven days a week,
- 18:11Speaker 1: like just like literally out there crazy, like I bet
- 18:14Speaker 1: like Cowboy Chicken is chicken. It's it's it's actually pretty good,
- 18:20Speaker 1: like gonna lie, it's wood fire roasted chicken that sounds
- 18:22Speaker 1: fire and it's it's funny because after work I would
- 18:27Speaker 1: go to the studio and I would, you know, it
- 18:29Speaker 1: was real chill.
- 18:30Speaker 2: So I would bring a whole I'll be like.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Three whole chickens and mashed potatoes and mac and cheese
- 18:35Speaker 1: and just.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Have everybody like, oh, this guy's great.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, coming to whole smelling like smelling like chicken and
- 18:40Speaker 1: everything crazy.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Like with fire chicken.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Like with chicken. It's like no, it's like literally on
- 18:45Speaker 1: the like, oh yeah, it's on a thing for real,
- 18:48Speaker 1: like it it's actually pretty good when you go at
- 18:50Speaker 1: the right time, I'll say that it's good. You gotta
- 18:52Speaker 1: get fresh. But that's what I was doing. I was
- 18:54Speaker 1: doing that, Tom Thumb. I was at I was doing
- 19:00Speaker 1: Uber not Uber Amazon Flex, Like what is that. It's
- 19:04Speaker 1: like where you can drive around, but it's in your
- 19:07Speaker 1: own car, can deliver.
- 19:08Speaker 2: You're doing that Amazon deliveries and.
- 19:10Speaker 1: On your own time.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I worked at BUCkies too. Your BUCkies is a national treasure.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I feel like people who don't know how fire BUCkies is.
- 19:18Speaker 2: If you've never been to BUCkies, bro, if you've never
- 19:20Speaker 2: been to BUCkies, because here it's good, you don't. It's
- 19:23Speaker 2: like a giant convenience store that's got food and it's
- 19:27Speaker 2: an over hyped gas station. It's just exactly but it's
- 19:30Speaker 2: it's justly overhyped. No, it's it's it's I remember we
- 19:35Speaker 2: went out there and yeah, we went to a BUCkies.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I was like, Jesus, place is huge.
- 19:40Speaker 1: This is a serious establishment. Yeah, I was the I
- 19:42Speaker 1: was the guy cutting the meat.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I'll be like.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Fresh risking on the board.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, if you drive through LA there's a
- 19:49Speaker 2: billboard that says BUCkies eighteen hundred miles ahead.
- 19:53Speaker 1: You're not gonna find them anywhere close. Bro. It's because
- 19:55Speaker 1: you know, it's for the truckers and stuff like that,
- 19:57Speaker 1: right right, right right. You get a lot of them
- 20:00Speaker 1: coming in or a lot of people you know who
- 20:02Speaker 1: are on the road, you know, road trip topic.
- 20:04Speaker 2: So are you are you a Mavericks fan.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I'm actually not even really into sports. Bro. When I
- 20:09Speaker 1: tell you I'm music that I'm music out give au.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I mean Nico Harrison, that's everyone wants to kill this
- 20:16Speaker 2: guy in Dallast, Nico Harrison, the guyho traded Luca. He's
- 20:19Speaker 2: oh see you No, I know a little bit about that.
- 20:20Speaker 2: I know billion people had to get the cops outside
- 20:23Speaker 2: his house.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah that was kind of wild. I gonna lie, but
- 20:26Speaker 1: but yeah, for the most part, you know, I like
- 20:28Speaker 1: watch it, but I'm I'm focused on making myself better,
- 20:32Speaker 1: six hundred better, ex better, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Like, so I literally negate everything else he's young, is
- 20:38Speaker 2: a young hood working on a debut project.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'm not for sure to win, but yes, everyone's everyone
- 20:44Speaker 1: should be dropping a project this year. Everyone should be
- 20:46Speaker 1: dropping party. I'm gonna hear from him, all right, Yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I just heard Orange Tate from Row. Y'all know we
- 20:52Speaker 1: got the country one coming out here in the next
- 20:56Speaker 1: month or so, I believe. And then yeah, I'm not
- 20:59Speaker 1: sure when Peb's dropping, when Pop's dropping, but yeah, everybody,
- 21:03Speaker 1: You're gonna hear from everybody this year for show for sure.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Would you ever do like a metro booming style album?
- 21:09Speaker 1: Hell? Yeah, that's that's that's all. That's all that's in
- 21:11Speaker 1: the work, you know what I'm saying, Like, I want
- 21:13Speaker 1: to do all that. I want to definitely drop my
- 21:15Speaker 1: own music or have other people feature on it, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: get people you know, other producers or other artists.
- 21:20Speaker 2: But who's your Mount Rushmore producers?
- 21:24Speaker 1: My Mount Rushmore of producers. That is the best question.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I would say my Mount Rushmore producers in no specific order,
- 21:36Speaker 1: it would be shout out to Metro love Metro, definitely
- 21:40Speaker 1: spot for him, uh band play who I work without?
- 21:44Speaker 2: That's just a crazy thing too, because even.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Before that, like I was huge pr e fan, like Dolph,
- 21:52Speaker 1: you know all them, like finally recipes Doll but finally
- 21:57Speaker 1: getting to be banned. I was like crazy because he
- 21:59Speaker 1: was he is inspirations, you know what I'm saying. So, yeah,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I gotta go metro band Weezy at the time when
- 22:08Speaker 1: I started, was a big influence. If I have to
- 22:12Speaker 1: name one Moreetoven amazing just from the soulfo side. I'm
- 22:19Speaker 1: missing some people though. I'm missing some people because it's
- 22:23Speaker 1: like I like, who else is there? J Dila? I
- 22:28Speaker 1: like Jay Dila just from the sample, you know what
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like Dylas, Yeah, that guy. That's where I
- 22:35Speaker 1: can think of off top my.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yo. Have you guys because it's it's crazy because a
- 22:40Speaker 2: lot of people stop sampling because it's so hard to
- 22:42Speaker 2: get certain shit cleared. Have you guys ran into that
- 22:44Speaker 2: issue where you guys wanted to drop a record, couldn't
- 22:48Speaker 2: get the sample cleared or it was too expensive so
- 22:50Speaker 2: you had to take it out redo it.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Yeah, No, like if we get a if we get
- 22:55Speaker 1: a record that we can't clear, then we'll have like
- 22:58Speaker 1: Charlie Cooks so I mentioned earlier, is literally a wizard
- 23:01Speaker 1: at interpolating, you know, saying.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Because the interpolation is way cheaper than the actually yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 2: because basically we made you're on loot pretty much.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll do that usually since now, you know,
- 23:13Speaker 1: as we've been going up, or as was going up,
- 23:15Speaker 1: six hundreds, been going up, like they they're like they're
- 23:17Speaker 1: just clear, just clear, and be like, yeah, we're good,
- 23:19Speaker 1: like like Life of a Boss that we dropped on
- 23:22Speaker 1: the deluxe tape. Originally, they weren't okay with that, you know,
- 23:26Speaker 1: you know, the guy was deceased and they weren't really
- 23:28Speaker 1: messing with it.
- 23:29Speaker 2: But then he's starting to pop, like they're like, you
- 23:32Speaker 2: know what, it might be all right, might be all right.
- 23:35Speaker 2: So it's a lot different to ask that question if
- 23:37Speaker 2: like you're not huge, because they're like, I'm not clearing
- 23:40Speaker 2: this ship. But if if the family thinks like they
- 23:43Speaker 2: got some ship, can get the money coming in.
- 23:45Speaker 1: It's just kind of crazy how that works too, because
- 23:47Speaker 1: I thought I was from my understanding, you know, I
- 23:50Speaker 1: thought it was like, oh, you I don't want to
- 23:51Speaker 1: clear it because you know, they want to honor you.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Know him right now, they were like, you know what,
- 23:56Speaker 2: we see how successful, let's go and try it out.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So the interpolation for Life of Boston statusts. So it
- 24:02Speaker 1: wasn't bad, but it wasn't It's not the same. It
- 24:05Speaker 1: wasn't a sampause. There's elements and a sample that we
- 24:07Speaker 1: don't even recognize. It's not just the music. It's like
- 24:09Speaker 1: the messed up you know, the messed up skip or
- 24:12Speaker 1: the Yeah. I feel like it works like it works sometimes,
- 24:15Speaker 1: but then.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Other times it's like it's the cheap route. It's like, yo,
- 24:18Speaker 2: an interpolation is way cheaper than it is and you
- 24:21Speaker 2: get as a producer, you get more of your coin too.
- 24:23Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. They don't take seventy five
- 24:25Speaker 1: off the pub fifty off.
- 24:26Speaker 2: The pub samples maybe cracking you.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yes, it's nothing nothing below fIF Have you done a
- 24:33Speaker 1: pub deal yet? M Yeah, I'm with APG.
- 24:36Speaker 2: What because you always hear like artists or producers specifically
- 24:41Speaker 2: obviously Hit Boys is very famous for the issue he
- 24:44Speaker 2: went through with his pop company. What did you do
- 24:46Speaker 2: a co pub deal? Did you do an admin deal?
- 24:48Speaker 2: What was your like?
- 24:49Speaker 1: That's co pup co pub?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Was it something that you because I feel like sometimes
- 24:54Speaker 2: people get to the motion and they'll rush into a publishing
- 24:58Speaker 2: deal right for you. Was it like, did you shop
- 25:00Speaker 2: it around? Was it because I'm sure a lot of
- 25:02Speaker 2: people this was very or was it early on?
- 25:05Speaker 1: It was I want to say it was early on.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I really just got it like last year. In the
- 25:10Speaker 1: last year there No, there was definitely a lot of
- 25:12Speaker 1: thought into we probably talked to like five different publishing
- 25:16Speaker 1: companies and just trying to get the best deal because
- 25:18Speaker 1: at the time, like I probably I had a lot
- 25:21Speaker 1: of X stuff done, but I mean, obviously now I
- 25:23Speaker 1: have more. But it's just they I don't know, they weren't.
- 25:27Speaker 1: They weren't seeing it like that. So it was like
- 25:29Speaker 1: I knew my potential. I knew I know where I
- 25:33Speaker 1: can go, you know what I'm saying. So it's like
- 25:34Speaker 1: I wish you would have waited. Do I wish I
- 25:36Speaker 1: would have waited. I don't know, But I feel like
- 25:38Speaker 1: everything's happened for a reason. Yeah, I think everything's happened
- 25:41Speaker 1: in the right timing, and it is happening in the
- 25:43Speaker 1: right time, and so I don't I really don't try
- 25:45Speaker 1: to like do my own time.
- 25:47Speaker 2: And because if it's a copor deal, like technically they're
- 25:50Speaker 2: supposed to help you get into sessions and help you
- 25:52Speaker 2: get placed. What you know, Hey there's a writing camp.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Right, yeah, you know, we'll definitely we'll definitely have those
- 25:57Speaker 1: and they'll definitely shout out like, hey, these people need beats.
- 25:59Speaker 1: A hey there's a camp here. You know what I'm
- 26:02Speaker 1: saying like that. So, but like I said, like, even
- 26:05Speaker 1: though I've had like so much success with this, it's
- 26:08Speaker 1: like I'm still even my personal career is still right
- 26:12Speaker 1: like and it's baby years.
- 26:14Speaker 2: For sure, So I'm still I'm still learning a lot.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm still you know, as far as the business side
- 26:20Speaker 1: and the music side, you know what I'm saying.
- 26:22Speaker 2: So, who who whose voice? Is your tag?
- 26:25Speaker 1: I got it off a website and I'm still indifferent
- 26:29Speaker 1: to it, bro the Tony very Yeah, I got off
- 26:32Speaker 1: a website.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Still very When you say you got it off a website,
- 26:34Speaker 2: what's that mean?
- 26:35Speaker 1: It's like I could like something. It was like female voice,
- 26:41Speaker 1: kind of sexy, So it's like a At the time,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I don't think it was considered AI, but it probably is.
- 26:48Speaker 1: So it's just a generic computer voice. Because at first
- 26:51Speaker 1: I had to say, is this Tony cold? Because my
- 26:53Speaker 1: homegirl said it? At first?
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I could have what we felt like but now,
- 26:58Speaker 2: but now she's got to wish her happy birthday and
- 27:03Speaker 2: that was the end of it. That's a very terrible reason.
- 27:05Speaker 1: For that was it was it was one birthday I forgot.
- 27:09Speaker 1: But we're not gonna speak on that.
- 27:12Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like it drops your tag, your
- 27:14Speaker 2: tag now.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Yeah it's weird, bro, just I'm indifferent to it still.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Just know it's hard, it's different. Yeah, it sounds very corporate.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And then I got the I got the other one
- 27:26Speaker 1: where it's row Actually let us your ride. That's actually
- 27:30Speaker 1: ro that's fire. Yeah. Yeah, shout out to freaking row Man.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Love the orange tape. Yeah, Orange tape. I'm glad it's
- 27:38Speaker 1: doing what's doing, like Rose, that's a dude who really
- 27:43Speaker 1: really put in that rap work for he can like
- 27:46Speaker 1: it's like rent du like rent dude.
- 27:50Speaker 2: For people who want to follow you online, man, where
- 27:52Speaker 2: can they find you?
- 27:52Speaker 1: You can find me Instagram at one Tony Cole's you know,
- 27:56Speaker 1: tap in what's your government name? Coles is my middle name?
- 28:00Speaker 1: Okay close my middle name, but that's essentially your name. Yeah,
- 28:03Speaker 1: this is yeah, my name ship Tony Coles. Yeah, at
- 28:06Speaker 1: one Tony Coles. I think I said that right on Instagram.
- 28:09Speaker 1: If y'all want to just peat what I'm doing. You know,
- 28:12Speaker 1: tap in, tap in, let's do it.
- 28:13Speaker 2: You know, a lot of new music on the way,
- 28:15Speaker 2: a lot of new music in the in the pipeline.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Of music in the pipeline, a lot of music on
- 28:19Speaker 1: the way, a lot of motion happening, six hundred, all
- 28:22Speaker 1: that boom, Tony.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I appreciate you coming through, man. I appreciate you inviting me, Man,
- 28:26Speaker 2: I appreciate you.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Yeah,
