- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone our ten yard touchdown reception for Puppas and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Welcome
- 0:33Speaker 1: to Hawk Talk Preview Edition Week five. The Seattle Seahawks
- 0:37Speaker 1: played prime time on Thursday against the Los Angeles Rounds.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But before we get into that is Nasa Chilby with
- 0:43Speaker 1: injury updates. Thanks bump Well. Cornerback Trey Brown, who spent
- 0:47Speaker 1: the first four weeks of the season on injured reserve
- 0:49Speaker 1: with a knee injury, who be designated for a return
- 0:52Speaker 1: to practice this week as a Seahawks prepare for a
- 0:54Speaker 1: Thursdenday matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. He was a
- 0:57Speaker 1: fourth round pick if you guys remember at Oklahoma, Brown
- 1:00Speaker 1: made a strong impression during training camp and was getting
- 1:02Speaker 1: some first team raps prior to his injury. So good
- 1:05Speaker 1: to see him coming back in the fold. Um. With
- 1:08Speaker 1: a short week, it might be tough for some guys
- 1:10Speaker 1: to make it, but like every week, head coach Pete
- 1:12Speaker 1: Carroll stepped up to the podium and gave us a
- 1:14Speaker 1: run down on some injuries. We'll hear about Benson Mayowa,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Carlos Dunlap, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, But coach got things
- 1:20Speaker 1: going with Darryl Taylor, Daryl. We'll see. Um, he's got
- 1:24Speaker 1: a little ankle something. We gotta check him out. Benson,
- 1:27Speaker 1: Uh is gonna practice. We gotta see if he's safe
- 1:29Speaker 1: to go. Um, we'll be determined that. I don't know
- 1:33Speaker 1: about Carlos. He's got he's got a sore toe, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and and uh so he's like a bear with a
- 1:41Speaker 1: thorn in his foot. You know, he's gonna see if
- 1:43Speaker 1: he can make it. And uh, he might be a
- 1:45Speaker 1: little grumpy about it. I don't know what. How did
- 1:48Speaker 1: Tyler and DK come out yesterday? Um, seemingly well they came,
- 1:52Speaker 1: they came out of the thing. Well, and and we'll see,
- 1:54Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's a This is a challenging
- 1:57Speaker 1: turnaround for you know, for everybody that does the Thursday
- 2:00Speaker 1: nighters and and us. We'll see how we handle it.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But both guys made it through and we were very
- 2:04Speaker 1: very fortunate in terms of getting guys nicked in the game.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Not to say that some guys didn't, but it's, uh,
- 2:11Speaker 1: we have a chance to get to get everybody up well,
- 2:14Speaker 1: so some goodness and bad well, we'll have to wait
- 2:16Speaker 1: and see. Hopefully Carlos stun laugh feels okay with that
- 2:18Speaker 1: kind of turf toe injury. Ben Tomayo has missed the
- 2:20Speaker 1: last couple of weeks, and DK Metcalf and Tyre Lockett
- 2:22Speaker 1: have had a couple of nagging injuries, but they haven't
- 2:24Speaker 1: missed anytime. So let's get right into it, man. What's
- 2:27Speaker 1: on tap? What's on tap? What's on tap? The Los
- 2:37Speaker 1: Angeles Rams are making a trip to Seattle. They are
- 2:40Speaker 1: three on one their very first week. They beat the
- 2:42Speaker 1: Chicago Bears thirty four to fourteen. Then they beat the
- 2:45Speaker 1: Colts twenty seven to twenty four. Then they beat the
- 2:48Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is when I'm starting to buy
- 2:50Speaker 1: into the Rams. Hype them by man, they'd beat Tommy
- 2:52Speaker 1: and the Boys thirty four to twenty four. But then
- 2:55Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals were mine pots. You cannot forget about them.
- 2:58Speaker 1: They lose to the Cardinals thirty seven to twenty. The
- 3:02Speaker 1: Rams look like the best team in the NFC after
- 3:05Speaker 1: three weeks and maybe the entire NFL, especially after that
- 3:08Speaker 1: win against Tom Brady and the Boys, the defending Super
- 3:10Speaker 1: Bowl champions. But on Sunday things changed. Man, the Cardinals
- 3:15Speaker 1: they're impressive. I was just watching Steven's a list and
- 3:18Speaker 1: he has them as the number one team in the NFL.
- 3:21Speaker 1: We know stephen A's kind of crazy, but he might
- 3:23Speaker 1: have a point right here. I think they're the remaining
- 3:25Speaker 1: only remaining undefeated team in the NFL. They handed it
- 3:28Speaker 1: to the Rams thirty four to thirteam. They came out high.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It was actually the Raums were up ten to seven
- 3:33Speaker 1: at one point, but after that it was all downhill.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Colin American teams just to look good. Twenty four thirty two,
- 3:39Speaker 1: two hundred and sixty eight yards, two touchdowns, six carriages
- 3:42Speaker 1: for forty nine yards, and he did something nasty. I
- 3:44Speaker 1: was impressive. It was like thirteen third and sixteen, no problem.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'll get outside the pocket. I'll scammer for another thirteen
- 3:50Speaker 1: to sixteen yards. When you have a quarterback like that
- 3:53Speaker 1: plus some weapons that he has around them, they're just
- 3:55Speaker 1: hard to defend. Yeah, Colin Murray's looked great. Man. We
- 3:58Speaker 1: and you have been big supporters of Colin Murray throughout
- 4:00Speaker 1: this podcast. Last year we kind of thought was a
- 4:02Speaker 1: year that he was going to take that step in
- 4:04Speaker 1: the Cardinals, We're going to kind of emerge the team
- 4:07Speaker 1: that was gonna be really tough to contend with in
- 4:08Speaker 1: the NFC West, and I think we were just a
- 4:11Speaker 1: year ahead of schedule. It's only been four weeks, but man,
- 4:14Speaker 1: these Cardinals look really, really good. Like you mentioned, Colin
- 4:16Speaker 1: Murray's putting up great numbers and he's doing more than
- 4:19Speaker 1: just with his legs. He's doing with his arms. He's
- 4:21Speaker 1: making good decisions and they have their whole offense going.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Chase Edmonds had things going on the ground, had one
- 4:25Speaker 1: hundred twenty yards and twelve carries. James Connor had fifty
- 4:28Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns. The Old Heads, the Ogs, AJ Green,
- 4:32Speaker 1: Andre Hopkins nine receptions for one thirty four and a
- 4:35Speaker 1: tad combined bump. The Cardinals scored on seven of eight
- 4:38Speaker 1: possessions after opening game of the punt, so they had
- 4:41Speaker 1: things going. But the biggest point in the game bump.
- 4:43Speaker 1: The biggest reason for that lopside of victory was Arizona
- 4:47Speaker 1: scored touchdowns on both of LA's turnovers. Yeah, and local
- 4:52Speaker 1: kid Byron Murphy got things going. Intercepted a pass from
- 4:57Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford undercut. It was a pretty nice play right there,
- 5:00Speaker 1: due showing why he is in the NFL. The Titan
- 5:02Speaker 1: Wims called a tough football in the end zone. Was
- 5:04Speaker 1: a bang bang play. Kyla Murdis floats one down the team.
- 5:07Speaker 1: When you got a big tight end like that, it
- 5:09Speaker 1: is hard to do. Now, the Rams struggled offensively. Matthew
- 5:12Speaker 1: Stafford was twenty six to forty one two hight yards
- 5:15Speaker 1: with two touchdowns and one interception, and mister reliable just
- 5:18Speaker 1: couldn't get going. Ask Cooper Cup. He struggled. He had
- 5:21Speaker 1: thirteen targets bowing five receptions sixty four yards. We just
- 5:25Speaker 1: don't see that out of Cooper Cup. Now, I put
- 5:28Speaker 1: some of it on the Aros on a defense. Now
- 5:30Speaker 1: I washed the game and they're just all over the dude,
- 5:32Speaker 1: whenever the ball is thrown at him. The obviously game
- 5:34Speaker 1: planning for him. They were ready to go, but you
- 5:37Speaker 1: can't expect that it happened two weeks in a row. Now. Now,
- 5:40Speaker 1: Sean mcvayh is two, he's two talented drawing up plays.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Cooper Cup and Matthew Stafford for that matter, are two talented.
- 5:46Speaker 1: So Cooper Cup is definitely gonna be one of the
- 5:48Speaker 1: top targets that we're gonna have to look out forward
- 5:50Speaker 1: the Seahawks. We this Thursday night. Let's look at this
- 5:53Speaker 1: head to head though bump as we get in the
- 5:54Speaker 1: matchup between the Seahawks and the Rams. You know, I'll
- 5:58Speaker 1: just start with this. We'll talk about later. But the
- 6:00Speaker 1: Rams last year, they were the class of NFL. When
- 6:04Speaker 1: it comes to defense, there were number one total defense,
- 6:06Speaker 1: number one in a ton of different categories. But they've
- 6:09Speaker 1: really struggled the last two weeks. They're now twenty seventh
- 6:13Speaker 1: in total defense given up three hundred and ninety six
- 6:15Speaker 1: yards a game, twenty second rush defense one hundred twenty
- 6:18Speaker 1: three a game, and twenty fifth when it comes to
- 6:21Speaker 1: past defense, given up two hundred and seventy three yards
- 6:23Speaker 1: a game. So it's a little bit surprising, you know.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I know that they lost Staley, who's now the head
- 6:29Speaker 1: coach of the Chargers. They got Raheem more so as
- 6:32Speaker 1: a dc SO and he's been around the block for
- 6:33Speaker 1: a minute, so it'll be interesting to see what's happened.
- 6:36Speaker 1: But the last two weeks they've kind of got schemed
- 6:38Speaker 1: up and a lot of points scored on him. And
- 6:40Speaker 1: then flipping over to the Seahawks, the Seahawks are training
- 6:44Speaker 1: in the right direction. It's not gonna be reflected in
- 6:46Speaker 1: the head to heads. This is the same. It kind
- 6:48Speaker 1: of feels like deja vu. Last year, bump thirty two,
- 6:52Speaker 1: last in the league in total defense given up four
- 6:54Speaker 1: hundred and forty four yards a game thirty first, and
- 6:56Speaker 1: rush defense given up buck fifty two and twenty eighth
- 6:59Speaker 1: and pass I see if the defense given up two
- 7:01Speaker 1: or ninety two yards a game. Now, while those numbers
- 7:05Speaker 1: don't sound good when you sam, we saw some encouraging
- 7:07Speaker 1: things from that secondary, from the back seven, from the
- 7:10Speaker 1: defensive line getting sacks, getting pressure last week. So I
- 7:13Speaker 1: think we're training in the right direction when it comes
- 7:15Speaker 1: to defense, training in the right directions. Twelves you hear that.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I know. They are the thirty two total defense, but
- 7:21Speaker 1: they are training in the right direction. If you watch
- 7:23Speaker 1: the last game, they caused an intercessors, something that didn't
- 7:25Speaker 1: happen so far this year. There are some pass breakups.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Jordan Brooks had his first SAT as a professional. They're
- 7:31Speaker 1: moving in the right direction offensively are These rams are
- 7:34Speaker 1: ranked seventh in the league. Excuse when it comes to
- 7:36Speaker 1: points per game and the Hawks are tenth to the
- 7:38Speaker 1: league points per game averaging twenty five. Now total offense
- 7:42Speaker 1: rams are eleven, the Seahawks are nineteen. Now I'm looking
- 7:45Speaker 1: at these numbers and nas and I'm like, okay, so
- 7:47Speaker 1: it's gonna be up. It's gonna be a shootout that
- 7:49Speaker 1: has the potential to be a shootout. You're looking after
- 7:52Speaker 1: the twenty seventh ranked defense versus thirty second rank defense.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Numbers might fool you, though, if the Hawks are training
- 7:59Speaker 1: in the right direction, and maybe they clamp down on
- 8:01Speaker 1: these guys a bit, but you gotta remember, man, we're
- 8:03Speaker 1: gonna get into these matches. Man. They got Cooper Cup
- 8:04Speaker 1: and a bunch of other guys over there as well,
- 8:07Speaker 1: all right. When it comes to turnover deferential, that's where
- 8:09Speaker 1: the Hawks are kind of doing okay, there are plus
- 8:11Speaker 1: three out of six in the league. The Rams are
- 8:13Speaker 1: zero have zero excuse me, differential zero, tied for fourteenth.
- 8:19Speaker 1: All right, man, Now, these guys have been battling for
- 8:21Speaker 1: a long time. They got some history. Let's get to
- 8:24Speaker 1: know it. No, your history, well, bumps. So the Seahawks
- 8:28Speaker 1: lead the all time series twenty five to twenty. Unfortunately,
- 8:31Speaker 1: the Rams have actually won five of the last seven
- 8:34Speaker 1: games in the regular season. The last two years, the
- 8:36Speaker 1: teams would split games, winning one, losing the other and
- 8:40Speaker 1: last meeting. I don't need to spend a lot of
- 8:42Speaker 1: time on this, twelves No, everyone else knows. Seahawks won
- 8:45Speaker 1: the division but lost in the wild card thirty to twenty.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Seahawks struggled to get things going offensively, got behind early.
- 8:50Speaker 1: There's pick six from Darius Williams. Russell was just eleven
- 8:54Speaker 1: for twenty seven with one hundred and seventy four yards
- 8:56Speaker 1: and two tuds. Both those came dk Metcalf, who led
- 8:59Speaker 1: all receivers with five receptions in ninety six yards. But
- 9:01Speaker 1: I believe that was on like thirteen targets two touchdowns.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It just wasn't a great game. I know, really missed
- 9:07Speaker 1: the twelves in that one. Um, so it's really I'm
- 9:12Speaker 1: really excited to see this matchup primetime at Looming Field.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Kind of. I don't even I don't think I'll call
- 9:18Speaker 1: a revenge game because everyone goes year to year, But Bump,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you don't forget stuff, man, You don't forget the little
- 9:22Speaker 1: chitter chatter back and forth. You don't forget the subset
- 9:24Speaker 1: on social media. I know Jamal and those guys won't.
- 9:26Speaker 1: They're gonna be ready to play, and it's gonna be fun. Man,
- 9:29Speaker 1: it's gonna be real fun. But we don't need to
- 9:30Speaker 1: talk about but well, the latest history because hopefully when
- 9:34Speaker 1: we talk about this we play them again, we'll have
- 9:35Speaker 1: a much better thing to talk about, hopefully about this game.
- 9:39Speaker 1: But man, let's stick in that NFC West. It's dangerous
- 9:41Speaker 1: what's the word? And the Seahawks were the NFC West
- 9:48Speaker 1: champs again. What's the word? In the West? On Hot Talk?
- 9:56Speaker 1: What's the word? Arizona Cardinals sit at the top of
- 9:59Speaker 1: the division at four and ohs. The Rams are right
- 10:02Speaker 1: behind them at three one, Seattle two and two, San
- 10:04Speaker 1: France two and two. The NFC West continues to be
- 10:08Speaker 1: strong man eleven and four through three weeks of the
- 10:11Speaker 1: NFL season. The only other division that's better is the
- 10:14Speaker 1: AFC West, So the West is just representing all day
- 10:17Speaker 1: all right? We got Week four was the first divisional matchup,
- 10:20Speaker 1: so we saw the division go wide. Are we're gonna
- 10:23Speaker 1: see some more this week. As we mentioned, the Cardinals
- 10:25Speaker 1: dominate the Rams, handing them their first loss and snapping
- 10:27Speaker 1: an eight game losing streak to the Rams. That's big.
- 10:30Speaker 1: The Cardinals are also off to their first four and
- 10:31Speaker 1: OL starts since twenty twenty one, looking for the first
- 10:34Speaker 1: winning season or division titles since twenty fifteen. The forty
- 10:39Speaker 1: nine is played the Cardinals this weekend, so we'll see
- 10:41Speaker 1: what happens there. Train Lambs has a full week of practice.
- 10:44Speaker 1: We'll see how that offense evolves. Last week it was
- 10:46Speaker 1: kind of thrown to the fire. It was real basic.
- 10:48Speaker 1: But the NFC West looks good man and this is
- 10:52Speaker 1: a big week because potentially the Cardinals could get their
- 10:55Speaker 1: first loss. The Seahawks can bump up to three and
- 10:58Speaker 1: two and they start to close the gap. Everyone starts
- 11:00Speaker 1: beating each other. You close the gap. It kind of
- 11:02Speaker 1: reminds me of the Pack Twell, it's like you got
- 11:04Speaker 1: a team that's balling balling in them. You're getting too
- 11:07Speaker 1: conference play and you start beating up on each other. Yep, No,
- 11:11Speaker 1: that's that's that's a great comparison, because, yeah, that's what's
- 11:13Speaker 1: gonna happen this year. The league is way too tough.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And don't be surprised. You know, Trey Lands and the
- 11:17Speaker 1: Niners have a full week of practice. You know, Kyle
- 11:20Speaker 1: Shannahan's gonna is gonna script put them in the best
- 11:23Speaker 1: position to win. He had, it's gonna have a full
- 11:24Speaker 1: week to get Lance ready. So don't be surprised if
- 11:27Speaker 1: the Niners go and shock the world and beat Arizona Cardinals.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Flip every flip the script do things differently. But man, yeah,
- 11:33Speaker 1: this is gonna be every single week. It's gonna be
- 11:36Speaker 1: tough in this division, and it's great to see two
- 11:37Speaker 1: tough divisional matchups. It's a tough for the Seahawks and
- 11:40Speaker 1: the Rams on a short week, but you're gonna get
- 11:42Speaker 1: depending on whoever wins this game, you're gonna get a
- 11:44Speaker 1: lot of rest in the back end. So we'll see
- 11:46Speaker 1: if it's worth it, man, But bump, let's waste no
- 11:48Speaker 1: more time. What's getting these matchups is this man man
- 11:58Speaker 1: up on Hawk Talk. Man Up. We start where we
- 12:02Speaker 1: always do, looking at the quarterback. This time we're gonna
- 12:05Speaker 1: start with Matthew Stafford taking on the Seahawks defense. Matthew
- 12:08Speaker 1: Stafford in twenty twenty one is having a pretty good season.
- 12:11Speaker 1: He's ninety two of one thirty five for one thousand,
- 12:14Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty two yards in eleven touchdowns, just
- 12:17Speaker 1: two interceptions on the season, completing sixty eight percent of
- 12:20Speaker 1: his pass has only been sacked three times. He seems
- 12:24Speaker 1: to have found some new life in La Man. He
- 12:26Speaker 1: loves a lifestyle. It seems like everyone's having a good time.
- 12:29Speaker 1: He's great relationship with Sean mcvayh he's got Cooper Cup,
- 12:32Speaker 1: Robert was all these dudes. Now again, it's one quarter
- 12:37Speaker 1: of the way through the season. We've always known Stafford
- 12:39Speaker 1: was a talented quarterback. It was just kind of the
- 12:41Speaker 1: question of is he one of the top tier quarterbacks?
- 12:43Speaker 1: I hate saying the word elite whatever, but is he
- 12:46Speaker 1: in that echelon? Right? I'm leaning towards he's just outside
- 12:52Speaker 1: of it. But honestly, do you think he do you
- 12:56Speaker 1: think he didn't get enough credit for how good he
- 12:58Speaker 1: was with the lines just because of how the lines organization.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And he's gonna show that this year, or do you
- 13:01Speaker 1: think at the end of the year will be like, yep,
- 13:03Speaker 1: that's he's as good as Matthew Safford as I thought
- 13:05Speaker 1: he'd be. It's like you said, we're a quarter the
- 13:09Speaker 1: way through the season. It's hard to really tell. But
- 13:12Speaker 1: you see some of the throws that he's making, right,
- 13:14Speaker 1: He's got Deshaan Jackson over there, Dee Ball Thram, yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 1: Cooper Cup and I'm watching the film and he looks
- 13:20Speaker 1: better than me. He looks more comfortable because he has
- 13:22Speaker 1: more weapons. Typically he's only had Calvin Johnson. Really, he's
- 13:25Speaker 1: closing his eyes, he's throwing it up there. I think
- 13:28Speaker 1: by the end of this year we will see him
- 13:31Speaker 1: in a better light than we did in Detroit. But
- 13:33Speaker 1: I still think he's not gonna be like the top five.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, there's some guys in this league who have
- 13:38Speaker 1: been doing it and been doing it for a long time.
- 13:40Speaker 1: So I don't know. He does look better, though, I
- 13:42Speaker 1: will give him that. He does look better. I like
- 13:44Speaker 1: his compulsion. Let's talk about the other quarterback, Russell Wilson
- 13:48Speaker 1: versus the Rams front seven at Russell Wilson is seventy
- 13:50Speaker 1: nine for one hundred and nine one thousand and forty
- 13:52Speaker 1: four yards, nine touchdowns, and zero interceptions, completing seventy two
- 13:56Speaker 1: percent of his passes. He's got fifteen carrens for fifty
- 13:59Speaker 1: eight yards one touchdown. He is the fastest quarterback to
- 14:02Speaker 1: one hundred wins. All this guy does is win except
- 14:05Speaker 1: against the Rams. For some reason. All right, He's at
- 14:08Speaker 1: eight and eleven against the Rams and that's including the postseason.
- 14:12Speaker 1: He's been sacked sixteen times in the last three games
- 14:15Speaker 1: against the Rams. I'm gonna say Leonard Floyd has about
- 14:18Speaker 1: half of those things. And we all know, and like
- 14:20Speaker 1: I said, we know by Aaron Donald as well, something
- 14:22Speaker 1: about the Rams. Every quarterback has that team that just
- 14:26Speaker 1: gives them fits. Even Tom Brady in New England it
- 14:30Speaker 1: was Miami. For some reason, Miami would just give this
- 14:33Speaker 1: guy some fits. The nemesis for Russell Wilson is the
- 14:36Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams. I'm not sure why, but I hope
- 14:39Speaker 1: that doesn't continue on Thursday. Yeah, man, you look at
- 14:42Speaker 1: those numbers and it's tough. I mean, Russell Wilson and
- 14:45Speaker 1: guarantee you someone that he's played that many times, he's
- 14:48Speaker 1: got a winning record against you just do the math.
- 14:49Speaker 1: He's won too many football games. And then you just
- 14:52Speaker 1: look and you looking through some of the numbers, and
- 14:54Speaker 1: I'm like, dang, he's been sacked sixteen times in three games.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And that's not all. And let's not jump get ahead
- 14:59Speaker 1: of ourselves. That's not all on the offensive line. You know,
- 15:01Speaker 1: that's that's a joint that's a joint effort um there
- 15:04Speaker 1: and and some of those games, you know, one of
- 15:06Speaker 1: them the Seahawks still won. But we're gonna have to
- 15:09Speaker 1: do The Seahawks're gonna have to protect Russell better, you know,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and we're just gonna eat it. First of A, let's
- 15:13Speaker 1: block Leonard Floyd please, because for whatever reason, man, I
- 15:15Speaker 1: feel like he'd be having three sack games against us. Man,
- 15:18Speaker 1: he is a problem. We know. Aaron Donald's a problem.
- 15:21Speaker 1: You know. It'll be interesting to see when the Seahawks
- 15:23Speaker 1: get Brandon shellback. Um, Cedric a boy, he did a
- 15:27Speaker 1: nice job after settling in that first series, so he'll
- 15:30Speaker 1: be tested. Kyle Fuller last year, Um, however, it was
- 15:33Speaker 1: in a loss, stepped up and played really well. Um
- 15:36Speaker 1: playing on a broken ankle or whatnot. So it was
- 15:38Speaker 1: I was promising to see Derek lew got Lewis and
- 15:42Speaker 1: you got Gabe Jackson. So I feel I feel, I
- 15:44Speaker 1: feel good about it. I feel like Damian and those
- 15:46Speaker 1: guys are gonna gonna figure it out. And they don't
- 15:49Speaker 1: have a choice, bump. They don't because the Rams are coming.
- 15:52Speaker 1: We know that. So it's gonna be a tough day.
- 15:54Speaker 1: But I'm but Russell Man. I feel like he's due,
- 15:57Speaker 1: He's overdue for a big game against this team. Has
- 16:00Speaker 1: to be, has to be, man. This is your time
- 16:03Speaker 1: to shine. This is a big week, man. Last week
- 16:05Speaker 1: was a big week. This is a big week to two.
- 16:06Speaker 1: You can kind of change the shift of powers in
- 16:09Speaker 1: the NFC West. All right, Let's look at DK Metcalf
- 16:12Speaker 1: and Jalen Ramdazy Dk. So far they shared twenty receptions
- 16:16Speaker 1: for two hundred eighty five yards three touchdowns on thirty
- 16:19Speaker 1: three targets. Now, him and Jalen, it's a battle. They're
- 16:21Speaker 1: both two big men with big personalities. You know they're
- 16:24Speaker 1: gonna get after him. In twenty nineteen, DK had six
- 16:28Speaker 1: receptions for seventy eight yards on six targets. November twenty
- 16:32Speaker 1: he had two receptions for twenty yards four targets. Down
- 16:35Speaker 1: game for him. In December of twenty twenty six receptions
- 16:38Speaker 1: for fifty nine yards on eight targets, and their final
- 16:41Speaker 1: matchup in January twenty twenty one, he had five receptions
- 16:44Speaker 1: for ninety six yards two touchdowns on eleven targets. He
- 16:48Speaker 1: needs to ride that way. From January twenty one, five receptions,
- 16:51Speaker 1: ninety six yards. He had a good game, and I
- 16:54Speaker 1: feel like he's in a different place now than he
- 16:55Speaker 1: was in all of these games, right. I think all
- 16:58Speaker 1: these games previously this year, he's still trying to prove himself.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Maybe he knows that he's the man and he has
- 17:03Speaker 1: all these capabilities. But you know, they got people like
- 17:05Speaker 1: us talking about him. You got veterans in the league.
- 17:07Speaker 1: We're gonna try to test them. Do their respect him
- 17:09Speaker 1: or not? This is gonna be a big matchup. I'm
- 17:11Speaker 1: looking forward to this one, oh, no question about it.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I mean, Jalen Ramsey's one of the best corners in
- 17:14Speaker 1: the game. We know DK Metcals one of the best
- 17:17Speaker 1: wide receivers of the game. He adds something consistently to
- 17:20Speaker 1: his game as you mentioned on our last podcast, his
- 17:22Speaker 1: route running he's got is greater, his his catchabilities, radius,
- 17:25Speaker 1: all that stuff. And you look at Ramsey on the
- 17:27Speaker 1: flip side of that matchup. In twenty twenties, got twenty tackles,
- 17:30Speaker 1: two TFLs, two pass defended, one I and T. Now
- 17:34Speaker 1: it gets metcalf. In December of nineteen he had four tackles.
- 17:37Speaker 1: In November of twenty he had two tackles. December of
- 17:41Speaker 1: twenty had one tackle, one pass defended. And in the
- 17:43Speaker 1: playoff game me and three tackles one pass defended. So
- 17:46Speaker 1: when you look at both these numbers, none of them
- 17:48Speaker 1: jump out on either side it's really good or really bad.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Now it's it's a hard matchup to look at because
- 17:55Speaker 1: it's not like the Rams are playing man to man
- 17:57Speaker 1: and Jalen has fallen DC every where he goes. They're
- 18:00Speaker 1: gonna play some zones, they're gonna switch it up, right,
- 18:02Speaker 1: And just because DK doesn't go for two hundred yards
- 18:06Speaker 1: doesn't mean he wasn't getting open, doesn't mean he wasn't
- 18:08Speaker 1: cooking him, doesn't mean he wasn't doing those things. So
- 18:10Speaker 1: sometimes it's kind of hard to look at. But bump
- 18:13Speaker 1: let me tell you though, when they do actually line
- 18:15Speaker 1: up against each other, boy, get your popcorn ready, because
- 18:18Speaker 1: I want to see that. You get two physical dudes,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and when one of them makes a play, you know
- 18:24Speaker 1: he's gonna let the other one know about it. So
- 18:27Speaker 1: it's gonna be a really fun matchup and I'm excited
- 18:29Speaker 1: to see it. Yeah, I'm excited to see it as well.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Another matchup I'm excited to see is Cooper Cup Robert Woods,
- 18:36Speaker 1: Van Jefferson versus DJ Reid and Sydney Jones Another week,
- 18:40Speaker 1: DJ Sitney and a gang are gonna have to go
- 18:42Speaker 1: up against a really good receiving corps. So far, they'd
- 18:45Speaker 1: share Cooper Cup two hundred and twenty excuse me, in
- 18:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty one thirty receptions, four hundred thirty one yards,
- 18:51Speaker 1: five touchdowns on forty six targets. Now, he struggled last
- 18:55Speaker 1: week against the Cardinals, only have five receptions for sixty
- 18:58Speaker 1: four yards on thirteen targets. But like we said, we
- 19:01Speaker 1: just don't see that often. I don't expect to see that,
- 19:03Speaker 1: all right. He's part of Eastern Washington's finest third in
- 19:07Speaker 1: the NFL in receptions. Now, Eastern Washington for some reason,
- 19:10Speaker 1: this puts out good receivers. Man. I know they throw
- 19:12Speaker 1: the football a lot over there. That's just what they do.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Another good receiver coming from a university that puts out
- 19:17Speaker 1: a lot of good receivers. Robert was from USC in
- 19:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, fifteen receptions, one hundred and seventy two yards,
- 19:23Speaker 1: two touchdowns, and now kind of the newcomer Van Jefferson
- 19:26Speaker 1: had a breakout game last week. He has thirteen receptions
- 19:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty six yards and two touchdowns. Now the Hawks
- 19:32Speaker 1: has been moving some things in the secondary. Man, it
- 19:34Speaker 1: seems like for the past couple of years they've been
- 19:36Speaker 1: trying to figure out who they really want to be
- 19:39Speaker 1: their guys out there. Started the season with DJ Reid
- 19:42Speaker 1: and Trey Flowers. Now they threw Sidney Jones in there.
- 19:44Speaker 1: We've seen Ryan Neal get in the mixed Marquis player
- 19:47Speaker 1: Google Amati. It's going to take all these guys to
- 19:50Speaker 1: kind of corral this receiving corps and just make like
- 19:53Speaker 1: difficult for them because they're going to make some plays.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I never expect a defense to come out and to
- 19:59Speaker 1: shut great players down. Are great systems down. You just
- 20:02Speaker 1: have to limit the big plays A name. We didn't
- 20:04Speaker 1: even mention nasty. He's an oge. Sean Jackson will still
- 20:07Speaker 1: stretch the field out on you, man. Don't don't sleep
- 20:09Speaker 1: on on the eighty five baby, Oh, no question about it.
- 20:12Speaker 1: They have a really talented group. They get the ball
- 20:14Speaker 1: out fast, it's quick hitting. They'll do some misdirection stuff.
- 20:17Speaker 1: They'll catch you on a fly sweep if you're not
- 20:18Speaker 1: paying attention. So they do a lot of really good
- 20:20Speaker 1: things in that offense. And you know you mentioned it.
- 20:23Speaker 1: You know Sidney Jones now out there. Dj Reid went
- 20:25Speaker 1: back to the right side. So I'm excited to see
- 20:28Speaker 1: what this challenge will like. Because it's a week to
- 20:29Speaker 1: week league. Man, it's a week to week thing. It's
- 20:31Speaker 1: a shorter week, so you're not gonna get the practice
- 20:33Speaker 1: time that you would a do normal week. But they're
- 20:35Speaker 1: gonna be in the film room, they're gonna be doing
- 20:37Speaker 1: all that stuff. They're gonna go through all the walk
- 20:38Speaker 1: through periods. And I'm looking for Sidney Jones to take
- 20:41Speaker 1: another step right, you get your feet wet, you're still
- 20:43Speaker 1: going through communication stuff. You know, on that one play,
- 20:46Speaker 1: Quantre Diggs was on the field. He's kind of the
- 20:48Speaker 1: he's a quarterback of that defense, especially in the secondary
- 20:50Speaker 1: when it comes to communicating coverage and whatnot. So I'm
- 20:52Speaker 1: really excited to see what these guys look like, because yeah, man,
- 20:56Speaker 1: it's it's about to get real and they get tested
- 20:58Speaker 1: every single week. And I'm calling it right now. You
- 21:02Speaker 1: will play this back when it comes true. I prom
- 21:04Speaker 1: telling you one of these corners and come down in
- 21:07Speaker 1: the reception one of them, but they mark it down.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Cannot wait and wait. And this other matchup, man, this
- 21:14Speaker 1: is this one's taking place not on the field, but
- 21:16Speaker 1: I had to I had to point on it on
- 21:17Speaker 1: there this week, man, because it's Shane Waldron versus for
- 21:20Speaker 1: he Morris Man. Shane Waldron, he's now being the offensive
- 21:23Speaker 1: coordinator for the Seahawks. He's coached four games. He's getting
- 21:26Speaker 1: to base his old team. Lots of familiarity between both sides.
- 21:30Speaker 1: They know Shane, Shane knows them and I know Shane.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I know both sides are you know, helping the other
- 21:35Speaker 1: side of the ball what to expect, right, you know?
- 21:37Speaker 1: I know Shane is probably in there with Can being like, hey,
- 21:39Speaker 1: these are some tendencies, here's some tells, here's some things
- 21:42Speaker 1: you know. Of course, both sides are gonna have some
- 21:44Speaker 1: wrinkles in different stuff, but you know there's gonna be
- 21:47Speaker 1: a lot of that chess match. And Rahee Morris, he's
- 21:49Speaker 1: been around the block, He's had a lot of success
- 21:50Speaker 1: in the league. But his defense, you know, last year
- 21:53Speaker 1: they were number one in yards allowed in points last season,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but now this year they've given up nine hundred and
- 21:58Speaker 1: eleven yards and sixty one points in two weeks, twenty
- 22:01Speaker 1: seventh in total defense. Man, So it's gonna be a
- 22:03Speaker 1: fun chess matching and something's gotta give on Thursday. I
- 22:07Speaker 1: like the matchup between the guys with the headset song
- 22:10Speaker 1: all right, that those are those you always have the
- 22:12Speaker 1: young man on the field who are going to execute.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Sometimes you're gonna make these coordinators right even when they're
- 22:17Speaker 1: rum but it's up to these guys to put these
- 22:19Speaker 1: guys in good position. And if I am the Rams
- 22:22Speaker 1: fan base and Raheem Moore is in this defense continues
- 22:25Speaker 1: to give up a bunch of points. If there are
- 22:26Speaker 1: anything like the twelves, they're gonna hear about it, either
- 22:29Speaker 1: gonna be talking about it on their local radio station,
- 22:32Speaker 1: TV or whatnot. I just hope Raheem doesn't turn it
- 22:34Speaker 1: around this week because we know that he is a
- 22:36Speaker 1: good coach. We know that Shane Walden is a good
- 22:38Speaker 1: coach as well. I am looking forward to that match
- 22:40Speaker 1: up the Rams or twenty seventh in the league. Right
- 22:42Speaker 1: out of the defense, something that I did not expect
- 22:45Speaker 1: to see this year. Okay, now there's things you gotta
- 22:47Speaker 1: do to win the game. What's the path to victory?
- 22:52Speaker 1: After forty five waits for the staff, Michael Vickson puts
- 22:55Speaker 1: it down. That kick is away. If that kick is
- 22:58Speaker 1: God good, says Gun, it's a path to victory on
- 23:03Speaker 1: Hawk Talk. Well, it's gonna start with the quarterback, our
- 23:07Speaker 1: quarterback number three, and it's gonna be it's gonna come
- 23:09Speaker 1: down to protection. You know, he cannot be sat, you know,
- 23:12Speaker 1: five or six times in a game. Leonard Floyd, Aaron Donald,
- 23:15Speaker 1: all those talented guys they have in that secondary. It's
- 23:17Speaker 1: just happened too many times, you know. And I think
- 23:19Speaker 1: it's it's a joint effort as from from Shane, from
- 23:22Speaker 1: Pete to Shane to all the way down. Everyone on
- 23:24Speaker 1: offense is going to take a village and get those
- 23:27Speaker 1: receivers of all man stretch that field. You're gonna have
- 23:29Speaker 1: tough tests in that secondary. You know Taylor Raps over there.
- 23:32Speaker 1: We mentioned obviously, we know we're getting with Jalen Ramsey.
- 23:35Speaker 1: So I want to see those guys involved early and often,
- 23:37Speaker 1: because when when DK gets going, one of those guys
- 23:40Speaker 1: is going. I feel like the offense it just looks
- 23:42Speaker 1: different when you have at least one of them involved
- 23:44Speaker 1: making play, stretching that field. I feel like the offense
- 23:47Speaker 1: gets rolling. And when the offense is rolling, this team's
- 23:49Speaker 1: hard to beat. When you get DK and Tyler Lockett going,
- 23:52Speaker 1: that run game is gonna open up as well. So
- 23:54Speaker 1: we need to get Chris Carson. Yeah, we gotta. We
- 23:57Speaker 1: gotta see the Carson we've seen flashes of consistently this year.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And then, don't forget man, they got a number two
- 24:02Speaker 1: running back now. I mean Alex Collins made his case
- 24:04Speaker 1: to be that number two. Look good last week over
- 24:07Speaker 1: seventy five yards a total offense, got the run game going,
- 24:10Speaker 1: had a twenty yard pass reception last year. I like him.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Now you have to slow down this Rams offense. We
- 24:17Speaker 1: talked about all the weapons that they have. We didn't
- 24:19Speaker 1: even mention Darryl Henderson, who's a solid running back as well.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You got a bunch of receivers who are veterans and
- 24:26Speaker 1: have been around the block. You got a veteran quarterback,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you got a good running back. Slow this d excuse me,
- 24:31Speaker 1: this offense down and make them one dimensional. Get pressure
- 24:35Speaker 1: on the quarterback. I hate to say that this about
- 24:38Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford, but I'm not all the way bought it yet.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Man Hit him on his chin, make him feel it,
- 24:43Speaker 1: make him throw some intercessions. Nasty. Who'd you say he
- 24:45Speaker 1: said someone in the second Dary is gonna have an
- 24:46Speaker 1: interception this year? Excuse me this week. Pressure on them, absolutely.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You know I need to see it, and that's that's
- 24:52Speaker 1: the one thing to knock him off his game. If
- 24:54Speaker 1: he has time to sit back there and throw it
- 24:55Speaker 1: over the yard, it's gonna be a long day. And
- 24:59Speaker 1: let's just improve on third down in general, right, you
- 25:01Speaker 1: know that's offensively, they know they need to improve there.
- 25:05Speaker 1: There's not staying on the field long enough. They obviously
- 25:07Speaker 1: have exposive plays. They got better in the second half.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Think it's the nine ers, but they need seem to
- 25:11Speaker 1: be better on third down. The one positive though on
- 25:13Speaker 1: third down defensively two weeks ago the Vikings were nine
- 25:17Speaker 1: to fourteen last week. The forty nine ers for two
- 25:19Speaker 1: or fourteen on third down, so there's been improvement there.
- 25:22Speaker 1: They's got to figure it out, man, figure it out
- 25:24Speaker 1: own the NFC West take care of business in this division.
- 25:27Speaker 1: If you do that, it makes things a lot easier
- 25:29Speaker 1: down the Roadbump, do what you have to do. You
- 25:33Speaker 1: avoid it losing three games in a row. Now, let's
- 25:36Speaker 1: get back on the winning trend. You are eleven eight
- 25:39Speaker 1: and eleven against the Rams, russing them. Let's change it man,
- 25:43Speaker 1: Thursday night primetime. We know that Russell and Pete Carroll
- 25:46Speaker 1: are ready to go on primetime. Should be a great game.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it. Oh yeah, I can't wait.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I think the Seahawks are thirty three, eight and one
- 25:52Speaker 1: when it comes to primetime games under Pete and John,
- 25:54Speaker 1: so I'm really excited looking forward to that. Reminder, guys,
- 25:57Speaker 1: you can catch on seahawks dot com, Apple Podcast, Spotify,
- 26:00Speaker 1: Google Podcast in Stitcher. Also got a lot of their
- 26:03Speaker 1: good programming content Seahawks Insiders with Jen and John Boyle,

- 26:19Speaker 1: it Thursday night football, Let's get it done. The Hawks
- 26:22Speaker 1: are taken on their Week five opponents of Los Angeles Rams.
