- 0:16Speaker 1: putt and practice. If you don't have time for a

- 0:23Speaker 1: dot org. Golf dot Brek dot org. Certainly saw the
- 0:26Speaker 1: news Monday Taysom Hill. The reports are torn Acl done
- 0:31Speaker 1: for the season. We all saw the play on Sunday
- 0:36Speaker 1: against the Rams. Was the fourth and one. He was
- 0:38Speaker 1: in the single wing, took the direct snap, went left side,
- 0:40Speaker 1: got the first down, the left leg extended hit.
- 0:43Speaker 2: You knew it immediately when you saw it.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It was one of those like turn your head, hold
- 0:47Speaker 1: your breath type moments after the game. Darren Rizzy didn't
- 0:53Speaker 1: have much of an update on Tasom. He did confirm
- 0:56Speaker 1: on Monday that Taysom will be done for the rest
- 0:58Speaker 1: of the year.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Can you play four lea?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Because Rizzy was asked, okay, now that you that you've
- 1:05Speaker 1: lost Taysim for the year, Like, how do you replace
- 1:07Speaker 1: him in this offense?
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it means everybody else has step up. You know,
- 1:11Speaker 3: he fills so many roles, so there's gonna be a
- 1:13Speaker 3: lot of different guys that are going to have to
- 1:15Speaker 3: be a part of the solution. There we'll start getting
- 1:17Speaker 3: hopefully a couple of healthy bodies back here. I think
- 1:19Speaker 3: we're going to open the window this week with Kendre Miller,
- 1:22Speaker 3: open up his twenty one day window. But means another guy,
- 1:25Speaker 3: hopefully we get back this week, we'll open up his
- 1:27Speaker 3: twenty one day window. Looks like and so, and then
- 1:29Speaker 3: obviously all the guys that have been you know, supporting
- 1:32Speaker 3: cast these last few weeks. We've done a good job,
- 1:34Speaker 3: you know, these last few weeks of getting a lot
- 1:36Speaker 3: of different guys involved, and it's going to have to
- 1:38Speaker 3: remain the same. And again, it's hard to sit here
- 1:40Speaker 3: and tell you that you can replace Taysoim. You can't.
- 1:43Speaker 3: He's a phenomenal person, player, leader, captain, all those different things.
- 1:47Speaker 3: So it's certainly a big loss. But that's the only
- 1:49Speaker 3: the only way you can do is everybe else to
- 1:51Speaker 3: step up.
- 1:52Speaker 1: The short answer is no, you don't, and you don't
- 1:54Speaker 1: even need to hear, and I can understand certainly Darren
- 1:57Speaker 1: Rizzy having to say what he can. Other guys's got
- 1:59Speaker 1: to step up the news. There is opening Bud Means
- 2:03Speaker 1: and Kendre Miller's twenty one day window to return. Maybe
- 2:05Speaker 1: you get him back this week against against the Giants.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Maybe it's a week later at home against the Commanders.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But we've seen this, right, I mean, you just look
- 2:14Speaker 1: at the Falcons game, the first Falcons game, not that
- 2:16Speaker 1: you need me to recreate this for you, and how
- 2:18Speaker 1: it all went for New Orleans. But the Saints lost
- 2:20Speaker 1: to the Falcons twenty six to twenty four. That was
- 2:22Speaker 1: a game where they were virtually unstoppable in the first
- 2:25Speaker 1: half and all they managed were field goals in the
- 2:28Speaker 1: second half, a field goal in the third quarter, and
- 2:31Speaker 1: then Kamara's one yard touchdown run late to tie it
- 2:37Speaker 1: before or to give the Saints the one point lead
- 2:39Speaker 1: before young Waiku hit the fifty eight yard excuse me
- 2:41Speaker 1: to win at twenty six to twenty four. But your
- 2:44Speaker 1: offense just went in the deep freeze when Taysom went out,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and then you played Monday night football against the Chiefs
- 2:49Speaker 1: where you scored just thirteen points without Taysom.
- 2:52Speaker 2: That was the game where Derek Carr got hurt.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Then you played the game against Tampa where you did
- 2:56Speaker 1: score twenty seven, but in the second half, it was
- 3:02Speaker 1: it was a real struggle. You got shut out. It
- 3:04Speaker 1: was it was weird. You got down big in that game.
- 3:06Speaker 1: If you remember, it was I'm looking at the box
- 3:08Speaker 1: score right here. You got down seventeen nothing in the
- 3:11Speaker 1: first quarter and came back all the way back to
- 3:14Speaker 1: take a twenty to seventeen lead, and then actually took
- 3:18Speaker 1: a twenty seven to twenty four lead into the break,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and then you just got blitzed in the second half
- 3:21Speaker 1: twenty seven and nothing. You lost fifty one to twenty seven.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But and then you had the Thursday night football game
- 3:26Speaker 1: against the Broncos where you scored just ten points and
- 3:28Speaker 1: your run defense was atrocious. Then eight points against the Chargers,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and you know, when you got Taysom back, it it
- 3:39Speaker 1: just opens up more in this offense. It kind of
- 3:42Speaker 1: goes without saying, you know, I don't know how you
- 3:47Speaker 1: do this. But Rizzy was also asked if they ever
- 3:49Speaker 1: try to recreate that role, like is there someone else
- 3:53Speaker 1: on the team that you could put in that capacity?
- 3:56Speaker 2: I mean that yep.
- 4:00Speaker 1: In some ways. You know, Sean Payton tried to try
- 4:03Speaker 1: to recreate this role. But I thought they might be
- 4:06Speaker 1: trying to draft the recreation of this role. But here
- 4:10Speaker 1: was Here was Darren Rizzy on if they have anyone
- 4:12Speaker 1: else that could replace Taysom.
- 4:14Speaker 3: I think in the time I've been here, we've we've
- 4:16Speaker 3: looked in the draft and said, I've heard the expression
- 4:19Speaker 3: news before. Well that's guys a Taysom like player, you know,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and you bring a guy in and see how many
- 4:24Speaker 3: roles you can fill. I think the difficult part in
- 4:26Speaker 3: today's NFL is that everything is so specialized, and so
- 4:29Speaker 3: Taysom is such a rare player because everything is so specialized.
- 4:34Speaker 3: You know, you have pass rushers and nickels and you know,
- 4:37Speaker 3: third down guys and this and that. So when guys
- 4:40Speaker 3: come into the league, they don't have a lot of
- 4:42Speaker 3: the experience and a lot of those different things. So
- 4:44Speaker 3: you're teaching guys to do. You know, Taysom came to
- 4:48Speaker 3: us and hadn't really done a lot of the special
- 4:50Speaker 3: team stuff and turned himself into a very good special
- 4:52Speaker 3: teams player. So to sit here and say that you
- 4:55Speaker 3: can just plug one guy in and do all those
- 4:56Speaker 3: different things. I think that's a process. Taysom did such
- 4:59Speaker 3: a great job when he got out here of learning
- 5:00Speaker 3: the offense and then kind of integrating him into special
- 5:03Speaker 3: teams and then oh, by the way, can he be
- 5:05Speaker 3: a kick returner? And so yeah, I mean I've heard that,
- 5:07Speaker 3: I've heard that discussions happened before. But that's a that's
- 5:10Speaker 3: not a one day thing, you know, it's a long,
- 5:12Speaker 3: you know, process.
- 5:13Speaker 1: To his credit, Tommy Stevens was the player that Sean
- 5:16Speaker 1: Payton drafted in round seven, if you remember, and the
- 5:18Speaker 1: whole he got they were going to sign him as
- 5:22Speaker 1: an undrafted free agent, sounded like they were going to
- 5:24Speaker 1: lose him, and so then he moved back into the
- 5:26Speaker 1: draft to get him. And it just it was Sean
- 5:27Speaker 1: paidn acting like a pissed off teenager, which he did
- 5:29Speaker 1: at times, and that wasn't very smart. But you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: you look at Taysom both short and long term. You know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: Taysom's thirty four next year. He'll be in this year,
- 5:45Speaker 1: thirty five season, coming off a very serious knee injury.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And you know, when you look at at the at
- 5:55Speaker 1: the cap hit, it's seventeen point nine, but the dead
- 5:59Speaker 1: money is seventeen point seven. So another way to say it,
- 6:03Speaker 1: like if you if you cut or wave Taysom Hill,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you would only save two hundred grand against your cap.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So it does you know good whatsoever to part ways
- 6:14Speaker 1: with Taysom Hill. Now when you look into twenty twenty six,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, now you're talking about the voidable years.
- 6:22Speaker 2: On his deal.
- 6:25Speaker 1: But really twenty five and twenty six would be excuse me,
- 6:31Speaker 1: excuse me, twenty six and twenty seven would be the
- 6:34Speaker 1: years where you would look and say, okay, that's where
- 6:37Speaker 1: where it might make sense to move on. And I
- 6:40Speaker 1: think this is really more of a question for Taysom
- 6:43Speaker 1: At you're thirty four years old, next year being thirty five,
- 6:50Speaker 1: coming off a very serious knee injury that he's going
- 6:52Speaker 1: to have to rehab. We don't know when he'll be
- 6:55Speaker 1: available or to his normal self, whatever that may look like.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You know, that's a question he's going to have to
- 7:04Speaker 1: ask himself or answer when, how long, how much longer
- 7:08Speaker 1: he wants to play? And the odd thing about a
- 7:10Speaker 1: guy like Taysom of course, is when you're thirty four
- 7:14Speaker 1: years old, usually you've played a dozen your thirteen years
- 7:19Speaker 1: in the NFL, and you know, for Taysoum, he's eight
- 7:23Speaker 1: years in, like this is year eight because going to
- 7:27Speaker 1: BYU and doing the more mission, it just.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It delays your football career.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So he's probably about he's five years older there, about
- 7:37Speaker 1: four or five years older than someone in football terms
- 7:41Speaker 1: would normally be at this age at this stage of
- 7:45Speaker 1: their career. Eight years in. So look, i'd love to
- 7:48Speaker 1: see Taysom. He'll come back. I think we all love
- 7:50Speaker 1: to see him play in the black and gold. The
- 7:53Speaker 1: spark he gives, the role he gives. He's such a
- 7:55Speaker 1: unique player and unique not being misused, like in the
- 7:57Speaker 1: literal sense, there's only one. There's nobody else in the
- 8:01Speaker 1: NFL that's used like Taysom Hill. There's the last time
- 8:04Speaker 1: we saw something like this was sixty years ago with
- 8:06Speaker 1: Frank Gifford. So you'd love to see Taysom come back.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's massively unfortunate that the injury happened, but you have
- 8:11Speaker 1: to start asking these very real questions about how much
- 8:15Speaker 1: longer he wants to play, how much longer can his
- 8:17Speaker 1: body hold up playing the role he plays in the NFL,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and what does it mean for your cap financially? It
- 8:25Speaker 1: makes sense like that that Tasoa Miill is going to
- 8:28Speaker 1: be on your team next year, but beyond next year
- 8:30Speaker 1: is when you start to look and say, how much
- 8:32Speaker 1: longer will Tastemill be in the black and gold.
