Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 8th.
- 0:11Words that bring life. Have you ever replayed something
- 0:14someone said to you and realized it stuck longer than you
- 0:17expected? Maybe it was a compliment that
- 0:21lifted you when you were low, or maybe it was a careless comment
- 0:24that cut deeper than the person ever knew.
- 0:27Words have a way of lingering. They don't just pass through the
- 0:30air. They settle in hearts.
- 0:32They shape confidence. They influence direction.
- 0:36Proverbs chapter 10, verses 11 to 12 reminds us just how
- 0:39powerful our words are. It says the mouth of the
- 0:43righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked
- 0:46conceals violence. Hatred stirs up strife, but love
- 0:50covers all offenses. A fountain of life doesn't just
- 0:54help one person, it keeps flowing.
- 0:56It refreshes again and again. God is saying that when our
- 1:00hearts are aligned with Him, our words can become a source of
- 1:03encouragement, healing, and hope to the people around us.
- 1:08But when words are driven by anger, bitterness, or pride,
- 1:11they stir conflict and leave damage behind.
- 1:14We see this truth lived out in Acts chapter 8.
- 1:18The believers had just gone through intense persecution.
- 1:21They were scattered from their homes, their routines, their
- 1:24sense of safety. If anyone had a reason to
- 1:27complain, to stay silent, or to lash out, it was them.
- 1:31But Acts chapter 8, verses 4 to 5 tell us that those who were
- 1:35scattered went about preaching the word.
- 1:38Philip went down to Samaria and proclaimed the Christ.
- 1:41Instead of letting hardship poison their words, they let
- 1:43God's love shape them. Think about that.
- 1:46Pain didn't mute their faith. Pressure didn't silence their
- 1:50witness. Their words carried life.
- 1:52Because their hearts were anchored in hope.
- 1:54And because Philip spoke about Jesus, an entire city was
- 1:57impacted. Joy replaced fear.
- 2:01Light broke Into Darkness. All because someone chose to use
- 2:04their voice for God instead of using it to vent, attack, or
- 2:08withdraw. This challenges us in very
- 2:10practical ways. The way you talk to your family
- 2:14when you're tired. The tone you use online when you
- 2:17disagree. The words you choose when
- 2:19someone annoys you or hurts you. Every conversation is an
- 2:22opportunity. You can stir strife, or you can
- 2:26cover with love. You can drain life, or you can
- 2:28become a fountain of it. God isn't asking you to have
- 2:31perfect words, He's inviting you to have a transformed heart.
- 2:36When love leads, words follow. And when Jesus fills your life,
- 2:40your voice becomes a tool for healing, courage, and truth in a
- 2:43world that desperately needs it. Let's pray.
- 2:47Heavenly Father, thank you for the power you've placed in
- 2:49words. Forgive me for the times I've
- 2:51spoken out of anger, frustration, or carelessness.
- 2:55Shape my heart so that my words become a fountain of life to the
- 2:59people around me. Teach me to respond with love
- 3:02instead of stirring conflict, and give me courage to use my
- 3:05voice to point others to Jesus. Let my words bring hope,
- 3:09healing, and light wherever I go.
- 3:12In Jesus name, Amen. What if the way you pray changed
- 3:17because you truly knew who God is?

- 4:36Proverbs chapter 10 verses 11 to 12 World English Bible The mouth
- 4:41of the righteous is a spring of life, But violence covers the
- 4:44mouth of the wicked. Hatred stirs up strife, but love
- 4:48covers all wrongs. Acts chapter 8 World English
- 4:51Bible Saul was consenting to his death.
- 4:55A great persecution arose against the assembly, which was
- 4:57in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad
- 5:01throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the
- 5:04apostles. Devout men buried Stephen and
- 5:07lamented greatly over him, But Saul ravaged the assembly,
- 5:10entering into every house, and dragged both men and women off
- 5:14to prison. Therefore those who were
- 5:16scattered abroad went around preaching the word.
- 5:18Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them
- 5:22the Christ. The multitudes listened with 1
- 5:24accord to the things that were spoken by Philip when they heard
- 5:28and saw the signs which he did. For unclean spirits came out of
- 5:31many of those who had them. They came out crying with a loud
- 5:34voice. Many who had been paralyzed and
- 5:36lame were healed. There was great joy in that
- 5:39city, but there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to
- 5:42practice sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria,
- 5:46making himself out to be some great one, to whom they all
- 5:49listened from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is
- 5:52that great power of God. They listened to him because for
- 5:56a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
- 5:59But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning
- 6:01God's Kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, they were
- 6:04baptized, both men and women. Simon himself also believed
- 6:09being baptized. He continued with Philip, seeing
- 6:12signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.
- 6:15Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria
- 6:18had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to
- 6:22them, who when they had come down, prayed for them that they
- 6:25might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet he had fallen on none
- 6:29of them. They had only been baptized in
- 6:31the name of Christ Jesus. Then they laid their hands on
- 6:34them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
- 6:37Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the
- 6:40laying on of the apostles hands, he offered the money, saying,
- 6:44Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may
- 6:47receive the Holy Spirit. But Peter said to him, May your
- 6:51silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the
- 6:54gift of God with money. You have neither part nor lot in
- 6:57this matter, for your heart isn't right before God.
- 7:00Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and ask God if
- 7:04perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you, for I
- 7:06see that you are in the poison of bitterness and in the bondage
- 7:09of iniquity. Simon answered, Pray for me to
- 7:12the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken
- 7:15happened to me. They therefore, when they had
- 7:17testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem
- 7:21and preached the good news to many villages of the Samaritans.
- 7:25Then an Angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise and go
- 7:28toward the South, to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to
- 7:31Gaza. This is a desert.
- 7:33He arose and went, and behold there was a man of Ethiopia, a
- 7:38eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of The
- 7:40Ethiopians, who is over all her treasure, who had come to
- 7:44Jerusalem to worship. He was returning and sitting in
- 7:47his chariot and was reading the prophet.
- 7:49Isaiah the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join
- 7:52yourself to this chariot. Philip ran to him and heard him
- 7:56reading Isaiah the prophet and said, Do you understand what you
- 7:59are reading? He said, How can I unless
- 8:01someone explains it to me? He begged Philip to come up and
- 8:04sit with him. Now the passage of the scripture
- 8:07which he was reading was this. He was led as a sheep to the
- 8:10slaughter, as a lamb before his Shearer is silent, so he doesn't
- 8:14open his mouth. In his humiliation his judgement
- 8:17was taken away. Who will declare his generation
- 8:20for his life is taken from the earth?
- 8:22The eunuch answered Philip. Who is the prophet talking
- 8:25about? About himself or about someone
- 8:27else? Philip opened his mouth and
- 8:29beginning from the Scripture, preached to him about Jesus.
- 8:33As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the
- 8:36eunuch said, Behold, here is water, what is keeping me from
- 8:39being baptized? He commanded the chariot to
- 8:42stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip
- 8:45and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
- 8:48When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord
- 8:50caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn't see him anymore,
- 8:53for he went on his way rejoicing.
- 8:55But Philip was found at Azatus passing through.
- 8:59He preached the good news to all the cities until he came to
- 9:01Caesaria. Thanks for joining us on Bible
