- 0:08Speaker 1: What's up, everybody. Welcome in. This is to check O Daily.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I'm Andrew de Checko, coming to you live from somewhere
- 0:15Speaker 2: deep in the bells of Chicago Midway International Airport. I'm
- 0:19Speaker 2: doing my best to trying to find a quiet place,
- 0:22Speaker 2: so if there's any noise in the background, I apologize,
- 0:25Speaker 2: but just bear with me and look, I'm heading back
- 0:28Speaker 2: to Philadelphia. It was a very productive week there at
- 0:32Speaker 2: the NFL Scouting Combine.
- 0:34Speaker 1: A lot of information.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Gathered and talked to a lot of prospects on Thursday,
- 0:40Speaker 2: which we'll get into in a moment. Definitely had a
- 0:43Speaker 2: chance to check out Harry and Iszi's, which was a
- 0:46Speaker 2: place that I've been wanting to get to for the
- 0:47Speaker 2: past couple of years. They have this shrimp cocktail that
- 0:51Speaker 2: has this explosive, very strong cocktail sauce and I'd always
- 0:56Speaker 2: been hearing about it. I finally had a chance to
- 0:59Speaker 2: have it someone who really likes spicy food, and I
- 1:03Speaker 2: took to it very well.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I ate it.
- 1:07Speaker 2: They ate the shrimp and then whatever cocktail sauce was
- 1:10Speaker 2: left over. You I ate it with a fork because
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm built like that. I guess I'm wired a little
- 1:17Speaker 2: bit differently, but I enjoyed the pain, but I survived it.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And again, very productive week here at the Scouting Combine.
- 1:26Speaker 2: One of my favorite events of the year, second behind
- 1:29Speaker 2: training camp.
- 1:30Speaker 1: And so.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Let's start with AJ Brown because that's a story that's
- 1:35Speaker 2: not going to go away. Just understand that, and it's
- 1:39Speaker 2: gonna be ongoing for a while. You're gonna hear about
- 1:43Speaker 2: it every day. There's going to be some toggling whether
- 1:46Speaker 2: he's going to stay, whether he's gonna go. But I
- 1:48Speaker 2: can tell you that I leave the Combine with sort
- 1:53Speaker 2: of an understanding that it is very much up in
- 1:56Speaker 2: the air and the Eagles are going to entertain offers
- 1:58Speaker 2: and that shouldn't be of course, they're going to Any
- 2:02Speaker 2: good organization is going to listen to offers. Now, AJ
- 2:06Speaker 2: Brown is a very important piece to what the Eagles
- 2:09Speaker 2: do and one of the best players at his position.
- 2:11Speaker 2: So I guess what it comes down to is what
- 2:14Speaker 2: does AJ Brown want? And I know that some of
- 2:17Speaker 2: you listening may say, well, he said he's happy in Philadelphia,
- 2:20Speaker 2: nothing to see here, Well, I mean what, well, he's
- 2:25Speaker 2: going to say that, and the Eagles are going to
- 2:27Speaker 2: say everything on their part as well.
- 2:28Speaker 1: That's the that's how you do business.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It serves no neither party any purpose to say yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 2: we're gonna we're fielding offers, or yeah, I don't want
- 2:41Speaker 2: to be in Philadelphia. What it comes down to is, look,
- 2:47Speaker 2: it's going to be a new look offense under Sean Mannion.
- 2:50Speaker 1: We can all gather that how new or how extensive
- 2:53Speaker 1: are the changes going to be?
- 2:54Speaker 2: Well, time's ultimately going to be the indicator there, and
- 3:00Speaker 2: that would suggest that that would conjure intrigue for someone
- 3:04Speaker 2: like AJ, who clearly wasn't happy functioning in that offense
- 3:08Speaker 2: because he's not able to win and thrive the way
- 3:12Speaker 2: that he believes that he can and what he's proven
- 3:15Speaker 2: that he can do in his career. Then keep in
- 3:17Speaker 2: mind that everybody's driven by something different, and AJ has
- 3:21Speaker 2: talked about the thrill of dominating the person in front
- 3:25Speaker 2: of him, dominating a defensive back, and he's been on
- 3:29Speaker 2: a Hall of Fame trajectory playing in this style, a
- 3:32Speaker 2: low volume passing attack where there may be times you're
- 3:35Speaker 2: not seeing the lion's share of targets, there may be
- 3:39Speaker 2: times where you see ten targets, but consistently is he
- 3:42Speaker 2: going to be the beneficiary of an abundance of targets. No,
- 3:48Speaker 2: it doesn't matter what the offense looks like. But it's
- 3:52Speaker 2: not suddenly going to be this rams pass heavy attack
- 3:57Speaker 2: where the quarterback's dropping back thirty five forty times and
- 4:00Speaker 2: Aj is able to eat and get his no matter what,
- 4:04Speaker 2: No matter what the relationships are, the bottom line is
- 4:08Speaker 2: Aj has made it very clear that this style of play,
- 4:13Speaker 2: regardless of tweaks here and there, the foundation is ultimately
- 4:16Speaker 2: going to be the same. It's going to be a
- 4:17Speaker 2: run heavy approach with Saquon Barkley. And this is me speaking,
- 4:20Speaker 2: this is what it's going to be. It's going to
- 4:22Speaker 2: be the Saquon Barkley Show. Yeah, you're going to see
- 4:26Speaker 2: some new wrinkles in the passing game, and the running
- 4:28Speaker 2: game is going to have some flavor and variety, but
- 4:30Speaker 2: ultimately that the passing game isn't going to be the
- 4:36Speaker 2: driving force of the offense. And if you're Aj Brown,
- 4:39Speaker 2: you've already come to terms with that, you know that.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I mean, let's say week one you get ten targets,
- 4:46Speaker 2: Week two, ten targets. Then there's ultimately going to be
- 4:50Speaker 2: a week where you're not the focal point in the
- 4:52Speaker 2: passing game. How will he handle that? And I think
- 4:55Speaker 2: what Howie Roseman has proven, whether it's Bryce Hoff or
- 5:00Speaker 2: you kind of look at Carson Wentz or other players,
- 5:03Speaker 2: he doesn't keep players in Philadelphia who don't want to
- 5:06Speaker 2: be here. So I'm certainly not going to speak for AJ,
- 5:11Speaker 2: but you have to go off of the information that
- 5:13Speaker 2: you have, and there's been many times last season and
- 5:18Speaker 2: you could draw your own conclusions from hearing him talk.
- 5:21Speaker 1: He doesn't like this style of offense.
- 5:22Speaker 2: He's not infatuated with it, and sometimes you can just
- 5:26Speaker 2: get I don't want to say complacent, but maybe a
- 5:30Speaker 2: little bit disenchanted with the direction of it. And I
- 5:33Speaker 2: think that that's fair because by and large since he's
- 5:36Speaker 2: been here, the offense has been the same. It's rooted
- 5:40Speaker 2: in the running game, and they're able to pick their
- 5:42Speaker 2: spots and deliver with explosives, but it's not a consistent.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Passing game.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I guess he's not a consistent presence within the offense
- 5:53Speaker 2: as much as he should be. He's won a lot
- 5:55Speaker 2: of football games. The Eagles have won a lot of
- 5:57Speaker 2: football games with AJ Brown, So you have to ultimately
- 6:00Speaker 2: ask yourself, if you're AJ, what do I want?
- 6:02Speaker 1: What means.
- 6:04Speaker 2: What means the most to me, he's I mean, he's
- 6:09Speaker 2: put it out on social media a different points before
- 6:11Speaker 2: the parade and this and that. So I say all
- 6:13Speaker 2: that to say as I'm setting the table here that Yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 2: the sense that I'm getting is he's probably there's a
- 6:21Speaker 2: chance he's not going to be a Philadelphia Eagle. I
- 6:23Speaker 2: know that that's something that's sort of been cast aside
- 6:26Speaker 2: by many. You don't want to believe it, but this
- 6:29Speaker 2: is the reality that you're living in. And again, this
- 6:33Speaker 2: is going to be an ongoing thing. We'll see what happens.
- 6:36Speaker 2: It's still very early in the game. But based off
- 6:39Speaker 2: of what I've been gathering, and you've seen different reports,
- 6:42Speaker 2: you've heard different things.
- 6:43Speaker 1: On social media.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's all true, despite what the Eagles
- 6:49Speaker 2: are saying, despite what AJ's saying.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So it's fascinating. But I have to tell you that
- 6:54Speaker 1: I know, while I.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Have to discuss it, it's exhausting and I'd much rather
- 6:58Speaker 2: not talk about that, but it's part of the off
- 7:01Speaker 2: season conversation. Turning the page here, let's get into some
- 7:05Speaker 2: prospect talk. The tight ends were at the podium today,
- 7:10Speaker 2: and so were some defensive backs. And I got a
- 7:13Speaker 2: chance to talk to Chandler Rivers from Duke, who is
- 7:16Speaker 2: a nickel corner, really good blitzer. I think he has
- 7:20Speaker 2: some areas of opportunity in terms of tackling. But he
- 7:23Speaker 2: talked about how he models his game off of Upton Stout,
- 7:27Speaker 2: who I really like, tough player, and Mike Samers still
- 7:30Speaker 2: of the Commanders, and he's kind of built in that mold,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and you have to wonder. He's probably a fourth round pick,
- 7:36Speaker 2: but you have to wonder if you're the Eagles, and
- 7:39Speaker 2: depending on where they land on a Mac McWilliams maybe
- 7:42Speaker 2: or even a Brandon Johnson, a Chandler Rivers might be
- 7:46Speaker 2: an interesting pick on day three early if you want
- 7:49Speaker 2: to bring in someone who gives you some potential upside
- 7:52Speaker 2: at the nickel corner position. And maybe it allows Cooper
- 7:57Speaker 2: de Gen to be even a little bit more flexible.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Although Cooper Dejen has mentioned how much he likes playing
- 8:02Speaker 2: that nickel role where he's in the middle of the action,
- 8:04Speaker 2: he can make tackles, he can blitz and play a
- 8:07Speaker 2: physical style, and Dick Vangol likes him there. But I
- 8:11Speaker 2: figured I talked to Chandler because I really liked his
- 8:15Speaker 2: game over his career, and I think he's an interesting prospect.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And then beside him was Demani Jackson, the cornerback out
- 8:23Speaker 2: of Alabama, and he has a really interesting story because
- 8:27Speaker 2: he has the pro typical size six foot one hundred
- 8:30Speaker 2: and ninety seven pounds, physical lengthy, does get a little
- 8:34Speaker 2: handsy and bails on his technique a little bit, but
- 8:37Speaker 2: he played the game at the highest level and I
- 8:39Speaker 2: was really impressed with how he came off in terms
- 8:43Speaker 2: of maturity, in terms of having an answer for everything.
- 8:46Speaker 2: When he was asked which cornerback he models his game after,
- 8:50Speaker 2: he rattled off the name Xavier Rhoads.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Great Vikings corner went.
- 8:54Speaker 2: To the Miami Dolphins after that, but he's someone that
- 8:58Speaker 2: you probably forget about. It makes a lot of sense
- 9:01Speaker 2: when you look at how Xavier Rhodes played the game
- 9:03Speaker 2: and how Demani Jackson could eventually transition into.
- 9:08Speaker 1: In the at the NFL level.
- 9:09Speaker 2: He's sort of a polarizing prospect because he had some
- 9:12Speaker 2: injuries and didn't necessarily play to his potential all the time.
- 9:15Speaker 2: But I think if you're looking for a Day three
- 9:18Speaker 2: swing for purely an outside corner, he would be one
- 9:22Speaker 2: that I would keep an eye on there. Chris Johnson
- 9:26Speaker 2: from San Diego State to another one. I wasn't able
- 9:28Speaker 2: to get over to his podium, but that's a player
- 9:31Speaker 2: that I like quite a bit, even more than the
- 9:33Speaker 2: other two players that I named.
- 9:34Speaker 1: He's more of an outside corner, but I like his
- 9:37Speaker 1: tape and he is probably.
- 9:39Speaker 2: A second or third round pick. We'll see how he
- 9:42Speaker 2: tests at the NFL Combine. By the way, Thursday today
- 9:45Speaker 2: is the first day of testing, but I spent a
- 9:47Speaker 2: bulk of the time today talking to a number of
- 9:50Speaker 2: different tight ends. Kenyon Sadik from Oregon was the headliner.
- 9:55Speaker 2: He talked about his versatility and how important that is
- 9:58Speaker 2: to be a well rounded prospect just twenty years old,
- 10:02Speaker 2: and while he said he didn't have any meetings with
- 10:05Speaker 2: the Eagles to this time, that shouldn't be of concern.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I mean, he's the top prospect at the position. The
- 10:12Speaker 2: Eagles are gonna be well aware of them. They they're
- 10:14Speaker 2: gonna be in the market for a tight end, and
- 10:16Speaker 2: so this is still very early in the process, but
- 10:20Speaker 2: I really like his game.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Now.
- 10:21Speaker 2: He does have under one thousand yards receiving for his career.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He's really young and at six three two forty five.
- 10:28Speaker 2: He has sort of an h BAC type of bill,
- 10:30Speaker 2: but he is a movable chess piece. He's a willing blocker.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I think there's areas there for development and he can
- 10:37Speaker 2: work all three levels. And I think he's pretty advanced
- 10:39Speaker 2: in terms of route running. He has a vast route
- 10:43Speaker 2: tree that he can draw from, and he's coming into
- 10:45Speaker 2: the NFL a fairly polished product. So I was really
- 10:49Speaker 2: interested with what he had to say. He obviously drew
- 10:52Speaker 2: a pretty large crowd. Then there was Oscar Delp, the
- 10:57Speaker 2: tight end from Georgia. He had a formal interview with
- 11:01Speaker 2: the Eagles today Thursday, and he said that he's sort
- 11:05Speaker 2: of a pass catching tight end that learned how to
- 11:08Speaker 2: be a blocker. And I hope I'm not misquoting, but
- 11:11Speaker 2: I'm paraphrasing here. And he didn't necessarily have the opportunity
- 11:14Speaker 2: at Georgia to thrive as a pass catcher, but he
- 11:18Speaker 2: definitely made his mark as a blocker. And he said
- 11:20Speaker 2: he's looking to run somewhere in the four fives over
- 11:23Speaker 2: the whenever the tight ends test, and I'm curious to
- 11:26Speaker 2: see what he can do because that could vault his
- 11:28Speaker 2: stock into the second round conversation, and the Eagles, knowing
- 11:34Speaker 2: their background with Georgia players obviously are going to be
- 11:37Speaker 2: intrigued with a player like that, and I.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Think he was sort of underutilized there.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I have to go back and listen to what he
- 11:44Speaker 2: had to say because I went to all these different
- 11:47Speaker 2: prospects and recorded a three to five minutes at a
- 11:49Speaker 2: time so that I could do a proper write up
- 11:51Speaker 2: on Inside the Birds dot Com. But I like his
- 11:54Speaker 2: game quite a bit, and he's kind of an interesting guy.
- 11:56Speaker 2: If the Eagles don't swing for Sadek in the first round.
- 12:01Speaker 2: There's also Max Claire from Ohio State. I've mentioned this
- 12:05Speaker 2: on the podcast before, but he kind of reminds me
- 12:07Speaker 2: a little bit of zach Ertz in terms of his
- 12:09Speaker 2: route running prowess. He can block a little bit. He
- 12:13Speaker 2: also had a former interview with the Eagles. He looks
- 12:16Speaker 2: to me like the prototypical Eagles tight end talking to
- 12:20Speaker 2: all these different guys. What he can do in terms
- 12:22Speaker 2: of the receiving game, his answers, and I think the
- 12:27Speaker 2: blocking ability, while it might not be what Dallas Goddards
- 12:32Speaker 2: was earlier in his career, he does have those qualities
- 12:35Speaker 2: that I think can be refined under Ryan Mahaffey, the
- 12:38Speaker 2: new tight ends coach.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But I also think that he strikes me as the
- 12:42Speaker 1: pro typical Eagles.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Tight end because he's probably gonna slot right in there
- 12:46Speaker 2: at pick fifty eight, and that's like a sweet spot.
- 12:50Speaker 2: And I don't know that the Eagles might God would
- 12:53Speaker 2: go for the top player in the first round, giving
- 12:56Speaker 2: given their history and priories prioritization of the offensive line.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I think tackle is still at the top of my
- 13:04Speaker 2: needs list. I would imagine if I'm the Eagles, but
- 13:07Speaker 2: Max Clair as a player that you talk about route
- 13:10Speaker 2: running proficiency, ability to find the soft spots and zone
- 13:14Speaker 2: be a quarterback security blanket, strong hands, can play through contact.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I like his game quite a bit. Started out his
- 13:21Speaker 2: career at Purdue, ends up for one season at Ohio State,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and while his numbers aren't going to jump off the page,
- 13:28Speaker 2: he looks to me like a pro ready prospect.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Everyone I continue to tell you about the importance of
- 13:34Speaker 3: you and your loved ones feeling safe in your own home.

- 15:40Speaker 2: Twenty one and I didn't get a chance to talk
- 15:43Speaker 2: to Michael Trigg to my knowledge, Michael Trigg from Baworm.
- 15:46Speaker 2: To my knowledge, he didn't go to the podium. Eli
- 15:49Speaker 2: Stowers was late. Eli Stowers is probably the second rated
- 15:53Speaker 2: tight end in this draft class from Vanderbilt.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Converted quarterback. I believe he's.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Always been playing the position for a few years now.
- 16:01Speaker 2: He leaves a lot to be desired as a blocker,
- 16:03Speaker 2: but you're talking about route running, fluidity, able to sink
- 16:06Speaker 2: his hips, strong hands, and I think he can be
- 16:10Speaker 2: a vertical threat at the next level.
- 16:12Speaker 1: He's going to be awfully intriguing.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Didn't get a chance to talk to him, but there
- 16:17Speaker 2: were Joe Royer was a player from Cincinnati. Enjoyed my
- 16:22Speaker 2: conversation and hearing what he had to say. Confident guy,
- 16:26Speaker 2: bigger body guy, and his play sort of tailed off
- 16:29Speaker 2: late in the season there so that obviously peaud some curiosity.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But I think he's another guy when you look at
- 16:36Speaker 2: the third or the fourth round, would make a ton
- 16:39Speaker 2: of sense. But going back to Max Claire, I'll read
- 16:43Speaker 2: a quote for you guys when talking about his strengths.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Get down the field efficiently, create separation up top for
- 16:50Speaker 2: the quarterback to have a spot to throw the ball,
- 16:52Speaker 2: and then improve on crafting or creating movement at the
- 16:54Speaker 2: point of attack against longer defenders. It's always a work
- 16:57Speaker 2: in progress and something I've always developed throughout my career
- 17:00Speaker 2: and want to continue to develop. Then he mentioned that
- 17:04Speaker 2: some of his influences are George Kittle.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Sam Laporter, and Trey McBride.
- 17:09Speaker 2: There's another tight end that I really like, and he
- 17:13Speaker 2: doesn't have a ton of production as a receiver. That
- 17:16Speaker 2: likely won't be his role at the next level, but
- 17:19Speaker 2: this is a nasty, tenacious blocker. Will Casmierk from Ohio State,
- 17:26Speaker 2: the other Ohio State tight end. His passion and physicality
- 17:32Speaker 2: at the point of attack was apparent. You could see
- 17:34Speaker 2: it in his eyes when asked about his blocking prowess
- 17:36Speaker 2: and his mentality, and he said, I think it's my
- 17:39Speaker 2: playing style and not a lot of people like to
- 17:41Speaker 2: do it, but I think I take pride in that
- 17:43Speaker 2: role and doing so can separate yourself, and I think
- 17:46Speaker 2: it's a big part of why I'm here right now.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And again, I love doing it and doing the dirty work,
- 17:50Speaker 2: and I think it's fulfilling to do that and knowing
- 17:53Speaker 2: that you impose your will on another player all game.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I find him to be an intriguing late round prospect
- 18:00Speaker 2: who can certainly help the Eagles, And I think if
- 18:07Speaker 2: you're the Eagles, you need to be able to add
- 18:09Speaker 2: a little variety to your tight end room. And it
- 18:12Speaker 2: doesn't hurt to get a player who's kind of in
- 18:14Speaker 2: the mold of a Jack Stole in Kasmeric is someone
- 18:18Speaker 2: that the Eagles desperately need somewhat of that mold, if
- 18:21Speaker 2: not him, but I view him as a Day three player.
