- 0:00SPEAKER_01: It's been a minute since Zillow got me, but they got me with an email today and I opened it.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: And they're like, Your front door color can make a huge difference in your house.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Really?
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: I I I thought it was like you just paint it what you wanted, you know, the color you wanted.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Except I had heard from somebody somewhere along the line, I don't remember who, that if your front door is painted yellow, it's a signal your house is paid off.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's true or not.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I've never heard this before, but also you don't see a whole lot of yellow doors.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And rightfully so, because how many people actually pay off their house?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: It's very, very few.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, if you so well, also around the pandemic, the other thing that happened was people walking in with cash to buy.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Where'd you get 350 grand sitting around?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Seriously, we talked about that earlier today about the tax auction.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I don't got fifty thousand dollars or whatever the the house will be for the tax auction.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I wish I did.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Where'd you all get your money?
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Honestly, how and who did you know?
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Because I want to know those people too.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: You said the yellow door thing.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: My front door is like a mustard yellow, and this is from Holly.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: She says it's not cute.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: It's both front and back doors.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: We haven't changed it yet.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Been in our house for three years, and I think I might be growing onto it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Growing onto it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And let's see, never heard of a house paid off with a painted yellow door.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: So what are the the colors like coral?
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Mine's coral.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Is there any value to a coral coral door?
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: The closest I can get you is a red, and I'll get there.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: So if you're gonna do door color and you're thinking, hey, I'm I might be able to get something out of this, they said dark gray is the moneymaker.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: So that really dark gray can add as much as$3,700 to uh a home's uh offer price.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Light blue green, not not terribly uncommon.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: It's too um country bumpkin for me.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: They say if you got a solid white house, light blue green is your moneymaker, it uh delivered the biggest color payoff of the whole study that Zillow did, potentially bringing in five thousand dollars more.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Geez, yellow.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: All right, this one's hit and miss, warm and welcoming, yellow shines uh on lighter homes, buyers uh well, they respond to this color with an average of about a$1,900 extra.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Hey, I'll take$1,900 extra.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Here's red, which is as about as close as I can get to the coral.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Uh red is the biggest gamble uh on the list overall.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Uh on a solid white home, it can uh it can nudge offers up by about$2,500.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: But on other home exteriors that they surveyed, red pushed prices into the negative, uh, like if it's a light brick home or stuff like that.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Not even orange.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Orange didn't fall on the list.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: They have nothing on orange.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: Yellow is as close as you'll get.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: They say the rule of thumb is simple.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: The busier your exterior is, like, you know, having lots of brick or mixed materials and stuff like that, or several colors.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Mine's very plain.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: The more appealing a neutral color can seem.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't know.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: That's when you want to get more money out of your house.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: I don't plan on selling my house um ever.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: This should be the uh very final one.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Well, you just got into this one, so if you can hold on to it for a minute.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't want to move ever again.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I hate moving so much.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: It gets old.
