- 0:00Speaker 1: Very pleased to say that. Joining me in the studio
- 0:02Speaker 1: right now is the well the co founder of Sabrina's
- 0:06Speaker 1: Reach for Life, Lydia de Lembo. Good morning to you, Lydia.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Good morning to you and your listeners.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Lovely to have you in this studio.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And we've also got Jason, one of the organizers of
- 0:15Speaker 1: the Red Dress run with the Hash House.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Harry Is.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning to you, Jason. Let me make sure I've
- 0:22Speaker 1: got the correct microphone on there. Let's try that again.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Good morning, Jason, Good morning Katie.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Is lovely to have.
- 0:28Speaker 1: You both in this studio because there is a fantastic
- 0:31Speaker 1: event that's getting underway.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Is it today or tomorrow?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Officially it starts on Saturday.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Saturday, there was another day off that.
- 0:39Speaker 4: These are the events that are just leading up to
- 0:41Speaker 4: the big day.
- 0:42Speaker 1: It sounds like there's a lot happening, and it sounds
- 0:45Speaker 1: like the Hash House Harriers are a very fun running
- 0:48Speaker 1: group to get involved in.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Firstly, tell me about them.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Well, Katie, it's a group of people who like minded people.
- 0:55Speaker 4: We have a bit of a job or a walk
- 0:59Speaker 4: and then we have some food afterwards, a social chat,
- 1:02Speaker 4: you know, maybe a cold beverage it's just a good atmosphere.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I've seen them go past my place and they seem
- 1:08Speaker 3: to be having a lot.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Of fun, having a really fun chat while they're running,
- 1:11Speaker 1: and I thought, wow, I must be running too hard
- 1:14Speaker 1: because I can't talk that much.
- 1:15Speaker 3: While I'm jogging.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yeah, we do have some fun.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Now, the Red Dress Run is getting underway. The money
- 1:22Speaker 1: that's being raised is going to go towards Sabrina's Reach
- 1:25Speaker 1: for Life now, Lydia, you and I have spoken on
- 1:28Speaker 1: numerous occasions about about Sabrina's Reach for Life and the
- 1:32Speaker 1: phenomenal work that you do. How important is it that
- 1:36Speaker 1: an event like this one does help to raise funds?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yes, Katie, Well, it's fantastic on a few fronts because
- 1:43Speaker 2: we're actually not organizing the event this time, and it
- 1:47Speaker 2: does take a lot of effort. And you know, I
- 1:49Speaker 2: really want to thank Greg and Cheryl who are in
- 1:53Speaker 2: charge of the Red Restaurant Committee, and Jason's on that
- 1:56Speaker 2: committee as well, So they've chosen our local charity and
- 1:59Speaker 2: they have raised fun for us previously as well. And
- 2:03Speaker 2: it's important because it's creating an awareness with the connection
- 2:08Speaker 2: of raising funds for Sabrina's Reach and as you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: and we've spoken before. We are focused on systemic advocacy
- 2:17Speaker 2: and providing support for people who suffer from mental distress
- 2:23Speaker 2: or suicidal ideations or being bereaved by suicide. And we
- 2:29Speaker 2: recently actually won an award. I was in Campbell last
- 2:31Speaker 2: week and we won a life award for the work
- 2:34Speaker 2: that we do in the territory. We were the only recipients.
- 2:37Speaker 2: So it does mean a lot. Any funds raised go
- 2:42Speaker 2: towards our course. But more importantly, something tangible it will
- 2:48Speaker 2: go towards is supporting the scholarship that we fund at
- 2:53Speaker 2: Charles Dalen University. So I'm interviewing people tomorrow for our
- 2:58Speaker 2: third sort of iteration of the scholarship that will support
- 3:02Speaker 2: a student studying psychology at Charles Dale University.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So very very excited about that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It is wonderful and you know what that awards so
- 3:10Speaker 1: very deserving. The work that you have done is incredible
- 3:14Speaker 1: and I say that every time that you come in.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But you should be so proud of the work that
- 3:18Speaker 1: you do and the work that you've done in Sabrina's name.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I think it's a phenomenal thing. Now this red dress
- 3:25Speaker 1: run Lydia, You've got your red dress on Now you're
- 3:28Speaker 1: ready to go.
- 3:30Speaker 2: That's made us a role with Sabrina's loyo on it,
- 3:33Speaker 2: which is fantastic. So I understand that all the people,
- 3:37Speaker 2: the four hundred people running or walking at four o'clock
- 3:40Speaker 2: today from the priesting down to the ski club will
- 3:45Speaker 2: be wearing the sarong in some shape or form.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Goodness, mate, who knows how they're going to be wearing.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Jason, So it's pretty appropriate.
- 3:56Speaker 3: It really is. Now tell us because there's going to
- 3:59Speaker 3: be people thinking.
- 4:00Speaker 1: What do you mean a red dress run house is
- 4:03Speaker 1: all going to work? Yeah?
- 4:05Speaker 4: Well it's women blokes. We all dress up in a
- 4:08Speaker 4: red dress and go from one place to another. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 4: and have a jog or a laugh chat. There's going
- 4:15Speaker 4: to be about four hundred of us, so it's pretty
- 4:19Speaker 4: pretty substantial amount.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Of it is.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a huge number of people. Now sneakers or heels.
- 4:25Speaker 4: For me personally, it'll be definitely sneakers because I've got
- 4:29Speaker 4: the big run to do on Saturday.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So there's all these other events kind of leading up
- 4:34Speaker 1: to Saturday's run. So talk us through exactly what happens
- 4:37Speaker 1: on Saturday.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Then, yeah, well Saturday, it's a whole lot of different
- 4:41Speaker 4: runs and walks now you can go on so depending
- 4:44Speaker 4: on your ability. There's some short walks for people who
- 4:48Speaker 4: are getting on in years, and then there's all the
- 4:52Speaker 4: way there's a four k and eight k at twelve k,
- 4:55Speaker 4: and then there's also the ball Breaker run, which is
- 4:58Speaker 4: potentially you know, up to twenty five kilometers and it'll
- 5:02Speaker 4: be taking in all the scenic sights of Darwin and
- 5:05Speaker 4: I'm sure every hill in Darwin.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I definitely couldn't wear my heels for that.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I'm training for a marathon right now and I've hardly
- 5:11Speaker 1: got toenails left, so.
- 5:15Speaker 3: That would be more than a ball breaker.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I just reckon. This is awesome.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I think it sounds like it's a phenomenal event. People
- 5:24Speaker 1: coming from all over.
- 5:25Speaker 4: The world, all over the world, yep, yep. So this
- 5:27Speaker 4: is our national event. It's held every couple of years
- 5:30Speaker 4: and because COVID, we didn't have one a few years back,
- 5:35Speaker 4: so it's been a while and we attract people from
- 5:38Speaker 4: all over the world, like minded harriers. It's just such
- 5:42Speaker 4: a good event.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And it is a cause that's dear to the hearts
- 5:45Speaker 1: of the harriers here.
- 5:46Speaker 3: In Darwin as well. Isn't it.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, we've lost a couple of members over the years.
- 5:52Speaker 4: You know. It's so it's just our way of getting
- 5:56Speaker 4: getting involved in a cause. You know, it's it's such
- 6:00Speaker 4: a good worthwhile cause they do some great work. We're
- 6:03Speaker 4: just happy to be associated with Sabrinas absolutely.
- 6:07Speaker 3: How much money do you reckon you guys will raise?
- 6:09Speaker 4: Well, we were aiming at around about fifteen thousand Wow dollars,
- 6:14Speaker 4: but the registrations have gone up since we sort of
- 6:17Speaker 4: made that prediction, so hopefully it's a little bit more.
- 6:20Speaker 3: How wonderful.
- 6:21Speaker 1: You know. How much does that kind of money mean
- 6:23Speaker 1: to Sabrina's reach for life?
- 6:25Speaker 3: Lidia, it means a lot.
- 6:27Speaker 2: So just the scholarship alone, it's a five thousand dollar
- 6:31Speaker 2: commitment on our part for a student each year. So
- 6:35Speaker 2: if it is fifteen, but I'm pretty sure it's going
- 6:37Speaker 2: to be more than that. That's going to help us
- 6:41Speaker 2: fund a student for three years wow, who is studying psychology.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And the aim is, you know, it's our way of
- 6:49Speaker 2: giving back to community to have more people, professional people
- 6:55Speaker 2: that can be accessible for people who are in distress
- 6:58Speaker 2: and need support and professional help. So it's just a
- 7:02Speaker 2: small way of us contributing in that way.
- 7:05Speaker 3: It is a really wonderful thing to do.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Now, if there is anybody out there listening this morning
- 7:09Speaker 1: that he is going through a tough time, I know
- 7:12Speaker 1: that there are a few different different places that they
- 7:14Speaker 1: can go to to get that support. But they can
- 7:18Speaker 1: certainly go to Sabrina's Reach for Life website as well,
- 7:21Speaker 1: can't they?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yes, they can, And you know, we're not a crisis
- 7:25Speaker 2: sort of service, but yeah, Lifeline or Beyond Blue are
- 7:29Speaker 2: the usual numbers that people should should call. Yeah, but yeah,
- 7:33Speaker 2: if anyone wants to have a chat, We're more than available, yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 2: to have a chat to people if they wish to
- 7:41Speaker 2: do so. But I just want to give another plug too.
- 7:45Speaker 2: There's a lot of local businesses that are actually supporting
- 7:47Speaker 2: this event today as well, too many to name, I think, jasonoluately.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Look, we've had a massive amount of support from local businesses,
- 7:56Speaker 4: you know, One Mile Brewery, the Ski Club, Precinct, Tavern,
- 7:59Speaker 4: tim Sir and Turf Lizards. You know, even down to
- 8:03Speaker 4: you FRM Refrigeration donating the use of cold rooms for
- 8:09Speaker 4: our event. Good on it. It's just been fantastic. The
- 8:12Speaker 4: community support for the event has been fantastic.
- 8:15Speaker 3: How wonderful. Well, it is great to have you both
- 8:17Speaker 3: in the studio.
- 8:18Speaker 1: All the very best. Don't hurt yourself running in those heels.
- 8:22Speaker 1: If anyone that's taking parts running in their heels. I
- 8:25Speaker 1: don't think I've run in heels since I was about
- 8:27Speaker 1: eighteen years old. I don't think I can hardly walk
- 8:30Speaker 1: in them now. It is lovely to have you both
- 8:33Speaker 1: in the studio. I really appreciate your time and I
- 8:35Speaker 1: hope it goes off without a hitch.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Thank you, Thanks sure much
