- Fifteen billion dollars. One steel mill. This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King. President Trump announced a fifteen billion dollar steel mill for eastern Iowa from the Oval Office yesterday afternoon. Earlier in the day, his administration rolled back federal fuel economy standards, saying the previous administration had gone, quote, far beyond the requirements mandated by Congress to push electric vehicles. In a weekend post, the President wrote the new standards will, quote, take the waste out of building cars in America. Meanwhile, the Senate returned for its final week before the midterms. Two priorities on the floor: the Protect College Sports Act and the Ratepayer Protection Act. And the Supreme Court opened its new term with what watchers call the long conference, meeting privately to decide which cases to take up. A lot of American machinery moving in a single Monday. Steel. Cars. Courts. Congress. Each decision will shape somebody's job, somebody's commute, somebody's day in court. Here is where Scripture reframes it. Psalm 127 opens: unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. That is not a verse against building. It is a verse about what actually holds a building up. Steel mills matter. Policy matters. But no announcement from any Oval Office is the foundation of a nation. Keep Psalm 127 open in Bible Copilot if you want to sit with that today. Story two. The Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act yesterday. Seventy-seven to twenty-two. Bipartisan. It grants the NCAA a limited antitrust exemption, restores the five-year eligibility rule, and codifies how athletes get paid for name, image, and likeness deals. Supporters, led by Senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell, say college sports have become, quote, the Wild West. Opponents, including Senator Cory Booker, say the bill protects institutions and coaches while capping the athletes. Booker, who played tight end at Stanford, said it protects the gravy train and burdens the players. The bill heads next to a House on recess until after the midterms. Its future is unclear. Proverbs 11:1 says a false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. Christians can disagree on the policy. Scripture will not let us disagree on whether the scale itself is honest. Watch whether the burden and the benefit land on the same side of the ledger. Story three is harder. In Dublin, California, a forty-year-old man named Jonathan McKinsey was shot and killed in a park parking lot over the weekend. He was head of engineering at New York Times Games. Police have arrested his in-laws, a married couple, both seventy-seven, on suspicion of murder. Court records show McKinsey had been charged last year with child endangerment and injury to a child. He pleaded not guilty. His wife filed for a restraining order. He later filed one against her and filed for divorce. There is no clean take here. A man is dead. Children have lost a father. Two elderly grandparents are in jail. Romans 12:19 tells us: never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God. Pray for that family. Pray for the investigators. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard. This episode is presented by Bible Copilot. Today's verse is Psalm 127:1. Open Bible Copilot and study the Verse of the Day first. Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Steel mills. Sports bills. Courtrooms. Families. All of it is being built by somebody today. The question is who is holding it up. Thanks for listening to The Gospel Briefing. You do not have to build the house. You have to trust the One who does. I'll see you tomorrow.
