- 0:00Eriic: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark channel.
- 0:09Eriic: This is Eric.
- 0:12Michael: And this is Sydney.
- 0:14Eriic: And this is Hallmark Mysteries and more.
- 0:17Eriic: Okay, exciting day.
- 0:24Eriic: Here we have brand new guests who we've never had on the show before the co-hosts Michael and Diane from Hallmark Cafe.
- 0:33Eriic: How are you guys doing today?
- 0:36Michael: We're great.
- 0:36Michael: We're so excited to be here.
- 0:37Dianne: Thank you, I feel like somebody just asked us out on a date.
- 0:39Dianne: I know Well, we're a little progressive here, yeah, well, interesting.
- 0:44Dianne: But you know, that's how we go.
- 0:48Eriic: So all right.
- 0:48Eriic: So tell all my listeners a little bit about Hallmark Cafe.
- 0:52Eriic: Where did the idea come from, how you decide to get going and all that sort of good stuff.
- 0:59Michael: Well, I'll say that I had the idea for the name and so I wanted to do a podcast about Hallmark movies for quite some time, because we've been watching Hallmark movies for like 20 years or however long they've been on, and so we thought, you know, and we're always talking about the movie ends and we had this big discussion on the sofa, you know.
- 1:17Dianne: We thought about having a podcast called the sofa movie or something.
- 1:21Michael: But so then we decided we'll do the podcast, and so that's what we did.
- 1:25Michael: We came up with the idea with the Hallmark Cafe and some of the things we do in it, and we also came up with the idea that if we're going to do a podcast about Hallmark, we would only really talk about movies we love, because we didn't want to do a snarky kind of podcast where, you know, we kind of tore the movies apart and all of the stuff and those are fine.
- 1:42Dianne: People have fun with us Great, it's just not us.
- 1:46Michael: But we wanted, we want to do something different.
- 1:47Michael: You know, because we are discerning.
- 1:49Michael: We can watch a Hallmark movie and say, well, that wasn't very good or whatever, but we don't want to.
- 1:54Michael: You know, we thought going and talking about that for half an hour wasn't our thing.
- 1:56Michael: So we decided to there's enough good movies that we would just take the good ones we like and talk about why we thought they were good, so that we can't be with the idea of putting it on the menu.
- 2:07Dianne: So we have, and we wanted to do more than one movie.
- 2:08Dianne: So we had decided well, at first we were going to do an appetizer, main course, dessert and an after dinner mint, but then sometimes we'll throw something in.
- 2:19Dianne: That's too many movies.
- 2:20Michael: We can't do that.
- 2:21Dianne: So now we just have a main course and a dessert and then every now and then we do a special episode on that.
- 2:28Dianne: We call it the mystery meat, and so because we love mystery, that's why we're here Right.
- 2:38Dianne: So we decided that what we would do since we know when people make these movies, they, they work really hard, so hard.
- 2:47Dianne: All the people, all the cast, the crew, everybody works really hard on these movies and we wanted to try to try to lift them up.
- 2:53Dianne: And if lifting them up means not really talking about them, then that's fine too.
- 2:59Dianne: We just go with the positive on what we do.
- 3:03Eriic: So so today we're here to talk about mystery on mistletoe lane, and this movie stars Victor Webster and Erica Sarah I think that's how you say her last name.
- 3:16Michael: I believe that is yeah I think so.
- 3:18Dianne: So description is new to town.
- 3:21Eriic: Heidi Wicks and her kids discover a Christmas mystery in the historic home.
- 3:26Eriic: Local handyman historian David helps along the way to find his own surprising connection All right, okay, that's that I don't know that would necessarily bring me in, but it's what it is right.
- 3:43Eriic: So, one of the things you guys have your cafe, we have our bar and we like to make a cocktail for the movie, and so tonight we have the mistletoe lane punch.
- 3:54Eriic: To make this, you're going to do two ounces of cranberry juice there's a lot of ingredients, by the way one ounce of grapefruit, red grapefruit juice, an ounce of sprite, an ounce of pomegranate liqueur, an ounce of orange liqueur and an ounce of spice rub, and then you put them in a glass with a whole bunch of ice, mix it all up with a candy cane, put in some, and then you want to just sprinkle a little bit of sprinkles on top of it to give it a little holiday flair.
- 4:26Eriic: And there you go.
- 4:27Eriic: There you got your I have whipped cream mistletoe.
- 4:30Eriic: Yeah, you can throw some whipped cream on top of it.
- 4:32Dianne: That will be citrusy.
- 4:34Eriic: It's a little sweet.
- 4:35Dianne: But you know what a lot tart.
- 4:37Eriic: Yeah, it's got a little bit of spice.
- 4:38Eriic: You know, it's actually kind of like Victor Webster if you think about it.
- 4:44Dianne: They put it in a very tall glass, very tall.
- 4:47Eriic: Well, you can do with all those ingredients.
- 4:47Eriic: You do need a big, tall glass.
- 4:50Dianne: So that's very, that sounds really interesting.
- 4:53Eriic: All right, I have not tried it, yet I will.
- 4:57Michael: He'll be right back in just a minute.
- 4:59Eriic: I'll make it back and I'll be slurring the second half of this podcast, all right.
- 5:03Eriic: You ready to get rolling?
- 5:07Eriic: Yes, oh sure.
- 5:08Dianne: We haven't started yet.
- 5:09Dianne: No, leave it on.
- 5:11Michael: Leave it on.
- 5:12Eriic: All this talk and we haven't started, All right, so why don't we start with?
- 5:15Eriic: Why don't you tell me a little bit what did you like about this one?
- 5:17Eriic: Hopefully there are some things you did like.
- 5:21Dianne: Actually, I will say it did not make our menu, but that's not because it was a bad movie or anything, and it wasn't because we didn't like it.
- 5:27Dianne: There were just two others that we liked better.
- 5:29Dianne: And you know, when it comes to our mysteries, we take them pretty seriously.
- 5:34Eriic: It was a very strong weekend.
- 5:35Eriic: It really was, yeah.
- 5:38Dianne: And you know the, I think, the thing that kept it off the menu for.
- 5:42Dianne: Well, let's see what I liked first.
- 5:43Eriic: Yeah come on, let's see what you like.
- 5:45Eriic: We have to get negative right away.
- 5:46Eriic: Geez, we talked about how we're so positive.
- 5:48Dianne: Let me loosen, I'll be, I'll be not positive.
- 5:51Eriic: I need to have some other mistletoe the punch.
- 5:54Dianne: I'll tell you what I really liked about it was the cast.
- 5:56Dianne: I thought the cast was great.
- 5:58Dianne: I loved the little the kids that they're.
- 6:00Dianne: They played their parts really well.
- 6:01Dianne: Of course, victor terrific, but especially what's his name?
- 6:06Michael: Fred Henderson.
- 6:07Michael: Fred Henderson.
- 6:08Dianne: Yeah, I'm terrible with names, fred Henderson.
- 6:11Dianne: To me, he's just one of the best played Wallace.
- 6:13Dianne: One of the best supporting actors on all of them.
- 6:16Dianne: You see him all the time, all of homework and like he was in one of our favorite movies, which is the Christmas doctor with Holly.
- 6:26Michael: Robinson.
- 6:26Dianne: Holly Robinson, Pete, Pete, and that was a great.
- 6:29Dianne: Do you remember that one?
- 6:31Eriic: I don't think I've seen that one.
- 6:32Eriic: That's a good one.
- 6:32Dianne: That was a couple of years ago, I think yeah 20.
- 6:34Dianne: And she plays a doctor getting off track.
- 6:36Dianne: She plays a doctor, she's kind of a sub doctor.
- 6:41Michael: And um, um.
- 6:41Dianne: Frederick.
- 6:42Dianne: Frederick calls her, calls her in to to take his place while he can go on vacation.
- 6:47Dianne: But there's a whole backstory, a whole thing that's happening, and there's one scene in that movie that will absolutely make you cry.
- 6:53Eriic: With Fred, with Fred.
- 6:54Dianne: And then this, this movie.
- 6:55Dianne: He didn't disappoint, I mean, he was just really good.
- 6:58Dianne: Yeah, and that was my favorite thing about, about the movie actually.
- 7:02Michael: And me.
- 7:02Michael: Pretty much the same thing.
- 7:04Michael: I liked the cast.
- 7:05Michael: Cheating, you can't have mine.
- 7:07Michael: It's the same thing.
- 7:07Michael: That's what I looked about it.
- 7:08Michael: I liked Fred, I think I always when Fred's in a movie it's going to be interesting, whatever character he's playing.
- 7:13Michael: Usually, um and I think Victor Webster is he's one of the most relaxed actors you'll ever see on screen.
- 7:19Michael: He's just kind of really comfortable.
- 7:22Dianne: He's like to hang out with him, yeah.
- 7:23Michael: He's just like a cool guy and, um, I thought he was good in this movie he was just played to eat underplayed things.
- 7:29Michael: It was nice, yeah, and I liked her.
- 7:31Michael: I thought she was good.
- 7:31Michael: She was, uh, it's, it's her first hallmark movie, so I thought that was nice.
- 7:37Michael: Yeah, so, yeah, so, so the cast and the kids were not obnoxious.
- 7:40Michael: The kids were, they were, they were pretty good.
- 7:42Michael: Uh, kid actors they didn't go over the top and uh, you know, they didn't, um, they didn't annoy me, so it was good.
- 7:49Michael: No, and I've worked with kid actors because so that can happen, so you have to, you know, but these, these two were good.
- 7:57Eriic: I was like I don't know what I'm going to say.
- 8:00Dianne: I was like I don't know what I'm going to say.
- 8:02Eriic: I was like I don't know what I'm going to say.
- 8:03Eriic: I will say I think you guys stole my notes because I feel bad.
- 8:07Eriic: I had a lot of.
- 8:08Eriic: I think it's.
- 8:09Eriic: You know, like you say, it was just Such good Casting.
- 8:11Eriic: All the, all the people who you also forgot was I.
- 8:16Michael: I don't know what her name was who played Linda the Uh that's Assistant at the um, mary Beth Manning.
- 8:19Michael: Yeah, mary.
- 8:20Eriic: Beth, she was fantastic.
- 8:21Eriic: And that's too, I thought and but yeah, victor Webster, I think he doesn't.
- 8:27Eriic: He's this effortless, right?
- 8:29Eriic: He can just do a little uh-huh and just doesn't really have to say many lines.
- 8:33Eriic: I know, but he totally delivers the moment, exactly.
- 8:36Eriic: He's one of the best at that, and yeah.
- 8:40Dianne: You know that scene when he's sitting in the chair and they shake hands and he just kind of holds her hand for a moment.
- 8:44Michael: Oh yeah, that's what he's good at.
- 8:47Eriic: Yeah, I think, I think A lot of people would think if they're shaking Victor Webster's hand we get dreaming in that moment.
- 8:55Dianne: Yeah, yeah, If I ever meet him, I'm going to take a stand and not let go.
- 9:01Eriic: I'm not very low on the list of the hottest actors.
- 9:06Eriic: I would say yeah, and then you know he's pretty high up there.
- 9:10Dianne: Over the last several years and yet he's timeless.
- 9:13Dianne: You know he's just got this handsomeness, but it's like a from the inside out as well as the outside in you know, all these guys do.
- 9:22Eriic: Well, what's amazing about him is.
- 9:23Eriic: So my gateway to Hallmark was Summer Villa.
- 9:27Dianne: And.
- 9:27Eriic: I saw that movie and I was like, whoa, this is really cute.
- 9:30Dianne: This is great.
- 9:31Dianne: It's a good movie.
- 9:31Dianne: I collect all my comments.
- 9:32Dianne: I talk in my language.
- 9:33Eriic: I really liked the movie and then that's.
- 9:36Eriic: That was what got me hooked into Hallmark.
- 9:38Dianne: When he gets out of the pool.
- 9:39Dianne: I'm sorry.
- 9:40Dianne: I know, I can't get that visual out of my head.
- 9:42Dianne: Yes, I know.
- 9:43Eriic: Thank you so much.
- 9:44Eriic: I annually share that on his birthday for everybody.
- 9:47Eriic: It's my gift to the world.
- 9:49Eriic: But the funny thing about it is it wasn't for a while like you're saying how he's aged that I actually realized.
- 9:57Eriic: I'm like, oh wait, that's Victor Webster.
- 10:00Michael: Yeah.
- 10:01Eriic: And he just kind of looked different and I don't know.
- 10:05Eriic: But yeah, he's, I don't.
- 10:08Eriic: We just reviewed Matchmaker Mysteries, which I had Andrew on and we were, you know, didn't think it was the best, and but the one thing we said was Victor was still, even though he was not given the best script and, you know, best situation, he was still fantastic in it.
- 10:30Michael: He was still good.
- 10:31Michael: Yeah, I wanted him to be in another mystery.
- 10:34Eriic: Right.
- 10:34Eriic: So yeah, Well, he exudes detective Like if there's someone who's just ripe to be a detective.
- 10:42Dianne: Is that him?
- 10:42Dianne: Yeah, exactly that's right.
- 10:44Eriic: And then go ahead.
- 10:45Eriic: Sorry, michael, to your point is I'm very vocal and I know it's bad.
- 10:50Eriic: I've got my own kids, but home art kids are the worst.
- 10:54Dianne: They are the worst.
- 10:56Eriic: This season, though, across the board, the kids have actually all season been pretty darn good, and this movie is no exception.
- 11:03Eriic: And, to your point, like that bar is pretty low, it's like, okay, they didn't annoy me, that's a home run.
- 11:10Eriic: These kids were actually fun and I liked, you know, they were engaged and they were actually likable, so it wasn't just like they didn't annoy, so that was fantastic.
- 11:19Eriic: And then the last thing, well, I had two more.
- 11:22Eriic: One is I disliked it because it was different.
- 11:24Eriic: Right, we'll talk about when we get into, you know, the mystery aspect of it, but it was just kind of a very different holiday movie that we don't normally see.
- 11:33Eriic: Yes, it did have the love story, but it took a very different path and, yes, he had the whole father story that unraveled, which was interesting.
- 11:41Eriic: But the last thing I liked was and I didn't know his name and I'm not as familiar with him as you were, but I said the dad was fantastic in there and I really enjoyed that him and Linda hooked up.
- 11:54Dianne: I thought that was awesome.
- 11:56Dianne: I got the dance.
- 11:57Eriic: When he's also in like son, step aside, I'm going in and that was fantastic.
- 12:03Eriic: I was hoping that was going to happen.
- 12:07Michael: And you might become a Fred Henderson fan.
- 12:08Michael: So you can see a little.
- 12:09Michael: Mark, there's Fred.
- 12:10Michael: I always say that it's Fred.
- 12:12Dianne: There's that I always say there's that, he's a he's a.
- 12:15Michael: He's a.
- 12:15Michael: This movie was made in Vancouver, in Fort Langley, so he's a Vancouver actor and we've gotten to the point where we know we see certain actors.
- 12:22Michael: Okay, this is Vancouver, this is Winnipeg, this is Toronto.
- 12:25Michael: You know, you kind of figure out, if you see the supporting actors where the movie was made, without even looking it up.
- 12:30Dianne: So that's why Fred's in all of these Vancouver movies, and there's another very brief appearance by one of our favorite supporting actors, and that's Linda Barlow right.
- 12:41Michael: Yes.
- 12:41Dianne: Yeah, she plays Linda Darlow Darlow.
- 12:44Dianne: I'm sorry he can edit that out.
- 12:46Dianne: No, I'm just kidding.
- 12:47Dianne: Linda Darlow is she played Betty on the cookie dough murders.
- 12:53Michael: The very first she baked one.
- 12:56Dianne: She's the one that, if somebody out there knows these stories as much as we do, she shot Max Turner and tried to give the cat and her cat away because she thought she would for sure was going to, you know, to jail.
- 13:09Dianne: And then she also played the grandmother on Hanukkah and Rai, which is one of our absolute all time.
- 13:15Michael: Yeah, that was a good movie.
- 13:16Dianne: So she's really good.
- 13:17Dianne: She just has a brief appearance.
- 13:18Dianne: She's the injured mayor.
- 13:20Eriic: You know that's right.
- 13:21Eriic: Hey, no, you don't get to.
- 13:23Dianne: I was.
- 13:23Dianne: The only thing was missing in that scene was she should.
- 13:25Dianne: He should have said mom.
- 13:29Eriic: Right, that would have been classic Classic.
- 13:33Dianne: So yeah, I agree with everything you said, you know yeah, so it's unusual, because I don't really agree with you.
- 13:40Eriic: All right, Diane, I know you, but you're obviously itching to say it because you try to kick off with what you maybe didn't love so much about the movie.
- 13:48Eriic: So now you can go ahead and share.
- 13:50Dianne: It's not the story, it's not the acting, it's not the mystery.
- 13:56Dianne: As we know, it's more of a scavenger hunt than a mystery and it had a little bit of mystery about the father.
- 14:01Dianne: But you know, as far as a mystery goes, I don't think it was much of a mystery.
- 14:06Dianne: We'll get to that later.
- 14:07Dianne: But the thing that bothered me the most is that some movies, the way they're shot, it gets a little claustrophobic, and this one felt like that, because the thing that opens it up for me is to feel like it's someplace, and so I like the movies where they have maybe a walk and talk on a sidewalk somewhere, so you just get the feeling of being outside and and maybe there's Christmas lights or other people or you know, even if it's just background people walking around.
- 14:31Dianne: And that's the thing that I missed was it felt like it was all inside the mystery lane and it was inside the historical thing and and that's about it I mean, they did have a little bit of.
- 14:42Dianne: They had the little party on the lawn, I think it was at the end, but that was really all the outside stuff.
- 14:48Michael: They did, they did go ice skating.
- 14:50Dianne: It was inside.
- 14:51Michael: It was.
- 14:51Michael: She ran to get her.
- 14:53Eriic: she ran to get her box, her cook or her coffee maker in the dry.
- 14:59Dianne: Oh, that's right, she was in the driveway.
- 15:00Dianne: Yeah, on the driveway she was sockless, but that was about it yeah.
- 15:04Eriic: You know nothing, you mentioned it, I realized I see where you're coming from.
- 15:08Dianne: Yeah, so that's the only thing that bothered.
- 15:10Dianne: It could sort of subliminally bothered me, but again I would not say I didn't like the movie.
- 15:14Dianne: You know overall score is pretty good.
- 15:16Michael: So oh, you're welcome.
- 15:18Michael: I hate to sound like a broken record.
- 15:21Michael: You agree with me.
- 15:22Michael: Yes, it was a little claustrophobic.
- 15:24Michael: I wanted to open up a little bit and go places in a car.
- 15:29Dianne: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 15:31Michael: I can't fault it for anything else.
- 15:32Michael: It did what it was trying to do very well.
- 15:34Michael: I mean so it just they did go out to.
- 15:36Michael: You do see a little of Fort Langley outside when they're outside the yellow building that's the community center in Fort Langley.
- 15:42Michael: She had all the time in Hallmark movies, so they were outside or at least that's true, they did that.
- 15:47Dianne: Were they actually outside of the stock?
- 15:49Dianne: Well, no, it was a stock shop.
- 15:50Michael: But when you see them inside, they're actually inside that building because we know that we've been to that building.
- 15:55Michael: So so that was nice, so they got out of the house, but that they didn't really go far.
- 15:59Michael: So that was probably, you know.
- 16:01Michael: There's only thing that I would probably complain about.
- 16:03Michael: And that could have been, I don't know, budget or just because they would go back and forth between her office old house and her old house she was living in.
- 16:10Michael: So they got kind of confusing sometimes.
- 16:12Michael: In terms of their they were very similar and God knows they were probably the same location.
- 16:16Dianne: but the other end of the house, the back was the front and the front was the back, so maybe yeah very well could be.
- 16:23Dianne: So that was it.
- 16:24Dianne: What did you feel?
- 16:25Eriic: So I had two.
- 16:26Eriic: I had one of them was the assistant mayor, vice mayor or whatever he was.
- 16:34Dianne: Like his.
- 16:35Eriic: I thought I found it kind of silly how he was oh threatening to fire her or that first initial party Like obviously very dramatic over the top, maybe, yeah, yeah.
- 16:48Eriic: And so I found it like you're not going to be bringing somebody in, even if you're not for it, and have them do one first event in their first, like two weeks, and be like OK, that's it, you're done, right?
- 17:01Eriic: I just that was a little forced conflict for me.
- 17:06Dianne: I've worked with them.
- 17:06Dianne: It's like we did.
- 17:07Dianne: Yeah, I actually have to.
- 17:10Michael: It can happen?
- 17:11Eriic: Yes, it can.
- 17:11Eriic: I actually worked at this one place once that I got this job and it was really weird.
- 17:17Eriic: Nobody talked to me for like the first week I was there.
- 17:20Eriic: It was very unfriendly.
- 17:22Eriic: I'm like what is going on?
- 17:23Eriic: And then the next Monday, all of a sudden, everyone was really friendly.
- 17:26Eriic: I'm like OK.
- 17:28Eriic: And then this one woman came up.
- 17:29Eriic: She's like I'll be honest, you're the.
- 17:32Eriic: You're the fifth marketing director we've had in the last couple months.
- 17:36Eriic: Usually they don't last a week and you got your first week.
- 17:41Eriic: You, since you made it past the week.
- 17:43Eriic: We talked to you and I think I've made it.
- 17:46Eriic: I've made it like two and a half weeks.
- 17:49Dianne: Oh man, well, you really made the record.
- 17:51Dianne: The thing is I wish I'd in afterwards.
- 17:54Eriic: I talked to some people I knew, you know in the community, and they're like oh yeah, that is the worst place to work.
- 17:59Eriic: That guy is insane.
- 18:00Eriic: I'm like thanks for telling me that beforehand.
- 18:03Michael: I mean yeah we've had almost the same same experience.
- 18:06Eriic: I love to have had that information.
- 18:09Eriic: But then the other thing I hated and once again, maybe this is my marketing background and also, you know, doing our podcasts and our Instagram stuff I hate.
- 18:18Eriic: I hate when they had the trending hashtag that takes over the world.
- 18:25Eriic: So you know, tribute hashtag, tribute tree, and all of a sudden, everything so successful because someone put this hashtag on a post is just not how it works and, like I say, it happens in all sorts of hallmark movies where they'll just go just put hashtag love and look at me, everything's great, it just I hate hashtags leave them out.
- 18:51Michael: I think there was one in the Christmas Island, there was no.
- 18:54Eriic: I don't know how they were going to do the, the way, the thing, yeah.
- 18:58Dianne: I still can't figure out how that worked out, but I kind of let that one go because.
- 19:02Eriic: I just I don't know what they're doing, so I say I like I really enjoyed the movie, but it was the definitely one where you can not dissect it, because you can make sense but at the same time, if there's too many of those things, then for us it just doesn't make the menu, it's like send it back to the kitchen.
- 19:21Dianne: it needs more development, it needs more this, that let's go on, there's too many those that if it's up and then it throws me off.
- 19:29Dianne: It's like being on a, on a ride, and then you know suddenly whoops, I'm gone.
- 19:33Dianne: I'm like threw me right off.
- 19:34Dianne: That happens a lot.
- 19:35Dianne: I'm a horse person, so if they're doing anything with horses, and she has a horse, not an actual horse.
- 19:41Dianne: I think they know what I mean that they start doing things with horses and it just aren't correct and it just throws me right out.
- 19:49Michael: I'm like, and I'm that way, if you music if they're depicting making a movie or television show, and I thought that's never just you can't do that, or if there's a singer that's up there playing.
- 19:58Eriic: There's my hashtag thing hold it yeah, yeah exactly
- 20:01Michael: is this your house and imagine there's a lot of people in the like Show the other night with a pilot.
- 20:06Michael: They're probably all they'd never do that nothing about pilot, so I like that wouldn't happen.
- 20:11Michael: We don't know, so we just got to let that go.
- 20:13Eriic: So yeah, this is like.
- 20:15Eriic: You know that there's a blizzard so bad that you can't take off a plane, but you can walk around town and short.
- 20:20Eriic: That's right Okay you know that okay, back to back to the mystery lane.
- 20:29Eriic: Alright, so, as you're alluding to, let's talk about the mystery.
- 20:34Eriic: And really was this movie a mystery?
- 20:37Eriic: It had mysterious parts.
- 20:40Eriic: Yeah, I mean it was a scavenger hunt.
- 20:43Eriic: To me it wasn't really a mystery, but I still consider it mystery.
- 20:47Eriic: For them, mystery was the father with the father's right, you know, but we never really.
- 20:52Dianne: Oh yeah, I guess they did explain why that all happened.
- 20:55Dianne: Yeah, I did yeah, and I guess I can see why emotionally he would have left, shut down and blocked it out.
- 21:02Dianne: But you know.
- 21:03Eriic: At what point did you figure out the door and the wall?
- 21:06Eriic: Probably when they did you know see you didn't figure it out ahead of time.
- 21:12Dianne: No, because I don't.
- 21:13Dianne: I guess I might have.
- 21:14Dianne: That's why we always watch those twice and we actually haven't watched that one twice yet.
- 21:18Dianne: But when they said the clue said something about door and wall, and it wasn't until somebody said I figured the wall was you know some kind of wall lists or Walter kind of thing, but the door thing was you know, I didn't.
- 21:33Dianne: I didn't know what that was first.
- 21:34Michael: I didn't.
- 21:35Michael: When they did it, I didn't get it.
- 21:37Michael: Was it Dorothy?
- 21:38Michael: Yeah, yeah, dorothy.
- 21:40Dianne: So no, when I was really taken by actually was the the special little bits of photography that they did, or the not photography, but what the what the DP would do with the little deer inside things like looking or looking in light and the little.
- 21:57Dianne: I thought that was clever and that was really fun.
- 21:59Dianne: So I was like, oh, they figured that out, that's cool.
- 22:02Dianne: So yeah, little little things entertain me.
- 22:06Eriic: Yeah, I think that it necessarily wasn't mystery.
- 22:10Eriic: We didn't have a dead body, but it still was fun and it still had mystery, like said, mysterious elements and you know and they did that thing.
- 22:17Eriic: I found the dad one very funny at the beginning because you know, victor, david, whatever asks him a question is like yeah, don't bother going down, that don't even do.
- 22:27Eriic: I got to get back to my golf game and then the, and then you know Victor's like okay, doesn't even like.
- 22:33Eriic: You know I'd be like wait what?
- 22:35Eriic: No, you got to tell me maybe he's, maybe curiosity would go up, okay maybe that's the way their relationship is.
- 22:42Michael: You know that was.
- 22:42Michael: We don't know the back story.
- 22:43Michael: I guess they're they're estranged.
- 22:45Dianne: He's not going to get anywhere.
- 22:47Michael: It was sure, plus it was just for the painting, then you went back to look for the painting.
- 22:52Eriic: It's always man these hallmark paintings, their holiday paintings.
- 22:57Dianne: I mean, that's not something I would hang in my head and say my wife.
- 23:00Eriic: I try putting up in the wall.
- 23:02Eriic: My wife would be slapping that over the top of my head.
- 23:07Dianne: There's that car commercial where they buy a painting.
- 23:09Dianne: And he says why did you buy it?
- 23:10Dianne: We got to have to buy something.
- 23:11Dianne: It's your brother where we're going to hang it.
- 23:13Eriic: The attic facing the wall.
- 23:14Eriic: That's exactly right.
- 23:16Eriic: So the last thing we talked about is the style.
- 23:20Eriic: So this can be the decor, can be the fashion, can be you know, like the little reindeer and you know all the little things of you know that they have somebody on set to create and stuff.
- 23:36Dianne: You go first.
- 23:36Dianne: I'm going to go first because, it is every time I steal your answers.
- 23:39Michael: It is the console stereo, because I love console stereos.
- 23:43Michael: Yeah, you know the the season, the 70s.
- 23:46Dianne: They're still looking for one.
- 23:48Michael: Yeah, because you know there are guys who re re verbose these things.
- 23:51Michael: You can buy them and they work, and you can hook up your Bluetooth to them now and play your phone through it.
- 23:57Michael: But I love a console stereo.
- 23:58Michael: There's just something that reminds me of Christmas and holiday, would you know?
- 24:02Michael: Your dad would put on the record, you know and I thought the mid century and I don't think I've seen a console stereo in a whole my Christmas movie, so it felt like that was kind of a first for me.
- 24:12Dianne: Oh, what a cool idea.
- 24:13Michael: So I like that.
- 24:14Dianne: I think it made me cringe when they took it out of the house and put it in the back of a tree.
- 24:18Michael: That was not.
- 24:19Dianne: Don't do that, don't drop it.
- 24:21Eriic: I remember now you mentioned, we had one growing up and ours had an eight track.
- 24:25Michael: Oh, yeah, 70s.
- 24:27Eriic: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:28Eriic: And it didn't have the Christmas albums that had, like Whatever, my brother's, you know, queen, or whatever.
- 24:38Eriic: Those are the kind of records that it was, that it was leds up and stuff.
- 24:46Michael: So they should have made a Christmas album.
- 24:47Michael: Yeah, so, yeah, that's what that?
- 24:49Michael: I like that stuff, that and there was some.
- 24:51Michael: You know the house that was.
- 24:52Michael: They did a good job.
- 24:54Michael: You know this is a nice furnishing the house, whatever the feeling of the house there, you know, there were cobwebs because it looked like it hadn't been lived in for a while, you know.
- 25:03Eriic: So there were some night Vines that got cleaned out in 10 minutes flat.
- 25:07Eriic: Oh yeah, plain down.
- 25:09Eriic: Victor goes out to pick it something out of the car and he comes back and it's all.
- 25:13Eriic: All the cobwebs are gone Dust it.
- 25:16Michael: Yeah, it's that's.
- 25:17Michael: That's how amazing the crew is, so yeah.
- 25:20Dianne: I would say that my favorite little stylistic thing that they had.
- 25:23Dianne: I love the little reindeer, although it was pretty obviously plastic but not hand carved.
- 25:29Dianne: But I can let that go.
- 25:30Dianne: I like the nutcracker.
- 25:33Dianne: I'm just a sucker for nutcrackers, giant nutcrackers.
- 25:36Dianne: I just, I just love it.
- 25:38Dianne: I just love those.
- 25:39Michael: So because quite often those show up in Hallmark movies.
- 25:42Michael: You know you're walking on the street.
- 25:43Michael: You see the giant nutcracker standing by a door.
- 25:45Michael: So this was one of those giant nutcrackers.
- 25:47Dianne: Yeah, a company is my favorite line in the movie, which was it's okay, it's just a nutcracker.
- 25:53Michael: It's a nutcracker.
- 25:54Michael: It's a giant nutcracker.
- 25:56Dianne: So I like that, and what was your is there.
- 26:00Eriic: Okay, well, you guys missed out on Heidi and her outfits, Like you know she's coming to this little.
- 26:06Eriic: You know it's Boston, I guess somewhere right it's supposed to be, and some one of the we're my daughter, by the way just moved to, so I was watching it, thinking of her, but you know.
- 26:17Eriic: So she's living in one of the little towns around Boston and she brought the you know, the high powered suits to this historic house there and she made the joke about it.
- 26:29Eriic: So, like you know, I've been this day at home, mom, and my you know, my Lulu lemon for a year.
- 26:34Eriic: So I am darn right, I'm pulling this stuff out and tell you what she knew.
- 26:38Eriic: She knew how to wear it.
- 26:39Eriic: She looked absolutely fantastic.
- 26:43Dianne: You did look good.
- 26:43Dianne: Yeah, I actually liked the pajamas she was wearing at first.
- 26:47Eriic: So yeah, I wonder when she ran outside on the snow?
- 26:49Dianne: I'll say that for being in Boston, the only one that had an accent was the across the street neighbor.
- 26:54Dianne: He had a good Boston accent was pretty good.
- 26:57Michael: She's remain so long time in.
- 26:59Eriic: Boston you didn't have.
- 27:00Eriic: My daughter just went up to Maine and did some sort of painting.
- 27:06Eriic: She had her friend come visit and they went up to Portland and painted some like little, I don't know frame things or whatever.
- 27:15Michael: What's your door right past your home?
- 27:16Michael: She did she did.
- 27:19Eriic: She's like oh, I think there's dance house.
- 27:22Dianne: You almost see it from 95.
- 27:24Eriic: I had a you know Victor, who's just, by the way, he's like, oh, I'm going to be this contractor, yet he to spend his entire time, you know, helping her out.
- 27:34Eriic: He was.
- 27:34Eriic: He doesn't have to make any money, I guess he's just independently wealthy, but but you know, he just looked like the handyman and you know like you have to appreciate hunky handyman vibe, yeah, he just does it.
- 27:50Dianne: Yeah, there was one he could handle when Linda, the office other office person, says oh, he's gone.
- 27:57Dianne: David, you're gonna meet David.
- 27:58Dianne: He's gone out to get the decoration, oh yeah.
- 28:06Eriic: I grew up with my, with my potted Fern, my Christmas Fern.
- 28:11Dianne: That's it.
- 28:12Eriic: But you know, I thought, like you guys said to, I thought the house really hit all the marks and the other thing I'll say secret room, and I'd like to have a secret room in my house.
- 28:24Michael: Yeah, those are cool, yeah, yeah added to the mystery.
- 28:26Eriic: Yeah, I had one when I was a kid.
- 28:28Eriic: We had like through a closet you could get to the attic, which nothing was in other than what we were.
- 28:36Eriic: We would play, but you had like a through clothes and work your way around and get in.
- 28:40Eriic: So it was good, especially when you're a kid.
- 28:43Eriic: Yeah that would have been a fun house to grow up in.
- 28:47Dianne: I didn't like how quickly the kids went from being oh we have to be here to no, sorry dad, we're gonna stay because they now they have something they wanted to do.
- 28:57Michael: Well, the mystery helped them adjust to being in the house, so that was actually good.
- 29:01Eriic: The son was never had the issue, it was just the daughter.
- 29:04Michael: She's being the bratty teenager.
- 29:06Eriic: Yeah, she's like okay so yeah like yeah, it was, I don't know.
- 29:12Eriic: I say I thought she, she was fine.
- 29:15Eriic: I'm glad that she actually did Turn too much, because they're bratty teenager sometimes.
- 29:20Eriic: Great son you.
- 29:22Michael: So yes, in real life too, so maybe it's, maybe it's just good acting.
- 29:27Eriic: I'm not appreciating.
- 29:30Dianne: All right, but you know, like we said, it's uh, we, we, it's we like the movie.
- 29:36Dianne: Yeah, I mean you, but not because we didn't like it.
- 29:39Dianne: Yeah.
- 29:40Eriic: I think it was universally pretty well enjoyed.
- 29:43Eriic: So let's go through and figure out, rank a little bit about it.
- 29:47Eriic: Was that that we did like it?
- 29:48Eriic: Okay, our first one we always start out with is the steam factor, because even though it's a mystery, it's still a hallmark and we like to get a little bit of steam going to be some steam.
- 29:58Dianne: I'm gonna step out there first and just take the hit because people aren't gonna like me.
- 30:02Dianne: But I only gave it a five.
- 30:05Eriic: Really yeah, even with the handhold.
- 30:07Dianne: Yeah, that was it, though it was like the handhold and but then it, then then nothing, you know.
- 30:13Dianne: On somewhere, but then it didn't.
- 30:16Dianne: So I think that partly it was because the other things in the movie sort of took over.
- 30:22Dianne: Yeah and and then they didn't really get as much screen time together alone.
- 30:28Dianne: You know, with the steam happening, I don't know, or even even in the room with other people, like for the dance, the dancing thing, when he wanted to dance with her.
- 30:37Dianne: They could have played a more romantic song than joy to the world.
- 30:43Michael: That doesn't exactly evoke steam.
- 30:45Michael: No, you can't think steam and you're listening to it.
- 30:47Michael: I mean, you could have brought Sharon again.
- 30:49Dianne: You know like there's so many really great romantic Christmas songs and that was what they used.
- 30:55Michael: I will say this music for this movie was on my track tailors, and track tailors, I believe, is a company that provides just music cues.
- 31:03Michael: I'm not entirely sure that because I haven't spoken to these guys, but it's not a composer.
- 31:07Michael: So you know the whenever the you see track tailors it's kind of to me a hodgepodge of different cues and it doesn't have the thematic structure of a composer.
- 31:18Michael: And so I thought, whoever the music supervisor was in this movie or through track tailors, when they played the joint of the world, kind of slow, jazzy version of that and they're dancing to it, it took the steam right out of it for me, cuz I like, because I thought that would have been a really good steamy scene.
- 31:32Michael: But the music, yeah, no, justin, doesn't cut it, you can't there were no moments of almost kissing.
- 31:38Dianne: I don't think yeah, again but you know what I mean.
- 31:41Dianne: It's like, if I want steam, I mean we've all seen the steam rising off, like Tyler or Andrew or any of those guys, and and even on Victor.
- 31:49Dianne: Oh yeah we've seen it, but in this particular movie, they, yeah, they.
- 31:53Dianne: It's like it just wasn't on the page, I guess.
- 31:55Dianne: Yeah, I thought.
- 31:56Michael: I mean, I thought this movie was geared to more.
- 31:59Michael: It's more of a family movie and maybe geared towards kids, teens in a way again from my background doing movies about 14s and that was just kind of like tone down.
- 32:08Michael: This is a little like an after-school special, expanded to be kind of a mystery, but it still got that serious element where the father is, you know.
- 32:14Michael: So it kind of felt like that to me.
- 32:16Michael: It felt like an expanded version of that kind of story and that's why.
- 32:20Michael: I would give that.
- 32:21Michael: For me, my steam factor would be a six, because I felt what she's talked about and what I've just spoken about, I thought it really wasn't about the romance and so there was very limited steam, you know.
- 32:32Dianne: I feel like the movie was gonna pick up after the mistletoe kiss and then then it was gonna be steamy, but but then the movie was over but they had.
- 32:40Michael: They had seemed to have fine chemistry.
- 32:41Michael: That was the issue.
- 32:42Eriic: It just just wasn't really great yeah we're yeah.
- 32:45Michael: I didn't.
- 32:46Michael: It's not what I got from the movie.
- 32:48Eriic: I'll say four, six, eight.
- 32:49Eriic: Who do we appreciate?
- 32:50Eriic: I gave it the eight, so I.
- 32:52Eriic: I Agree with you in some ways, but I thought you just had the two of them who why, it wasn't very overt, I just kind of like Victor's, like Liker, and just they had the looks going and you just some of the flirting, and it just sort of was the thing where he, he just very early, and I think became very clear like I'm digging you and it progressed and I agree with you, it could have had a better crescendo right but I Also really enjoy the scene, even though it technically, I guess, wasn't part of they weren't anything.
- 33:34Eriic: Yet when the ex came over and he's talking during the doorway and Victor, like sort of pops out behind and you can just see him, he's like Okay, you're a lot harder than I am.
- 33:45Eriic: Walks out.
- 33:52Eriic: You know your ex-wife.
- 33:55Michael: Yeah, we got divorced.
- 33:56Michael: Good, someday you're gonna meet this guy.
- 34:01Dianne: I got to go now.
- 34:02Dianne: Yeah, I never see him again.
- 34:05Dianne: So you know, there you go right, it's like I.
- 34:08Eriic: There's no chance of reconciliation.
- 34:09Michael: No, it's that guy's in the same town.
- 34:11Eriic: All right, what do you get?
- 34:13Eriic: The story.
- 34:14Eriic: So this is taking away the mystery, which once again, will.
- 34:19Dianne: That's the next one.
- 34:20Dianne: So yeah, this story.
- 34:20Dianne: Why don't you go, michael?
- 34:23Michael: I would give the story a seven you didn't look at my paper.
- 34:26Dianne: I didn't know.
- 34:27Dianne: I gave it a seven.
- 34:28Dianne: We both gave it a seven.
- 34:29Dianne: Yeah, I mean out of a ten.
- 34:30Dianne: That's pretty good solid.
- 34:32Michael: So there's a watchable story and there were, there was parallel stories going on that ended up, you know meshing.
- 34:40Michael: At the end it was also a love story, but, as we've just spoken about, it was.
- 34:44Michael: That wasn't really the highlight of the crux of the movie, but so I gave it a seven.
- 34:48Michael: I thought again, looking at from the point of view if, if young people were watching this movie, they'd probably find it fun.
- 34:55Michael: You know so and you know it.
- 34:58Michael: It held your attention and it did have a mystery element, like what it were.
- 35:02Michael: What are all these Clues leading to?
- 35:04Michael: you know, so it kind of held you in there.
- 35:06Michael: So yeah, I gave it a seven.
- 35:08Dianne: Yep, and I know I can't disagree.
- 35:12Eriic: I was a little more generous than you guys.
- 35:13Eriic: I gave it a nine and mostly Because what you said is it had a whole bunch of different stories that were taking place and usually when that happens, some you know, some of them fail and I thought they all.
- 35:26Eriic: I can remark it right like you had the kids Yep, their whole thing worked out.
- 35:31Eriic: David and his dad worked out, you had her and her job, which once again that is a little bit that forced conflict.
- 35:38Eriic: You had Linda coming in doing like all the different things Worked and you rarely get it that way and it was enjoyable.
- 35:45Eriic: I guess I write a story where you don't have obnoxious kids.
- 35:50Eriic: Yeah, I guess like I guess, like two bonus points for me right off the bat.
- 35:53Eriic: So Elevated.
- 35:54Michael: Yeah, my two bonus points probably came off because of the steam factor.
- 35:59Dianne: I think I was.
- 36:00Dianne: I wanted more heat in the kitchen.
- 36:01Dianne: You know I want a little more.
- 36:02Dianne: The kitchen but yet you had Victor and you wanted that he come.
- 36:07Eriic: I want you know I want summer villa come out of a pool.
- 36:11Michael: No.
- 36:12Dianne: That's.
- 36:13Eriic: The steam pool and the whatever.
- 36:14Eriic: In the winter I had a sauna.
- 36:16Dianne: That would have been good when he comes out of the pool women get excited and men.
- 36:20Dianne: We get depressed.
- 36:23Michael: All right, what do we?
- 36:23Eriic: give it for the mystery, you go first.
- 36:31Dianne: I don't know, I hate to say it, I'm kind of changing my mind a little bit, but I did give it a five for mystery, mainly because, to be on the Hallmark movies and mystery, I felt like it needed more mystery Because half of it was just scavenger hunt, that wasn't really a mystery.
- 36:50Dianne: So I felt like I gave it half the movie got a 10 and then half the movie got a five or half the movie got a seven, half the movie got a three, I don't know Whatever.
- 36:59Dianne: I landed in the middle.
- 37:00Dianne: So that was my thinking on that.
- 37:03Dianne: I don't think that they could have done any more in this movie to make it be more of a mystery.
- 37:10Dianne: It's just the way the story was and it was enjoyable.
- 37:13Dianne: But to me I like my mystery a little more mysterious.
- 37:17Dianne: I can say that.
- 37:19Michael: Yeah, for me I would also give it a five because I thought it was going to be more of a mystery you'd find on the channel.
- 37:27Michael: So I kind of guessed what was going on.
- 37:31Michael: I knew there was going to be something to do with the father.
- 37:34Michael: And that was going to have lived there sometime when he was a kid.
- 37:36Michael: I figured out that pretty fast or soon, but so as a mystery it didn't you know, they didn't.
- 37:44Michael: There were not a lot of red herrings and all that kind of thing.
- 37:46Michael: You'd find a normal mystery.
- 37:48Michael: So I gave it a five as a mystery, as a family movie it was much better.
- 37:52Eriic: 10.
- 37:53Eriic: As a mystery was like a five, so Five across the board.
- 37:57Eriic: It is yeah.
- 37:59Eriic: For the same exact reasons.
- 38:01Dianne: There you go, there you go.
- 38:02Dianne: He just wants to feel bad.
- 38:05Eriic: No, I've been making higher, it's okay.
- 38:06Eriic: All right, now we get into the acting of this, that's easy.
- 38:11Dianne: That's a 10.
- 38:11Dianne: I mean, that's a 10 for me.
- 38:12Dianne: That's.
- 38:13Dianne: The best part of the movie was these guys?
- 38:15Dianne: They were so solid.
- 38:16Dianne: We talked about that earlier so I don't need to go into it anymore, but that was my.
- 38:21Dianne: I gave it a 10.
- 38:23Michael: I also gave the cast a 10.
- 38:24Michael: They did a great job.
- 38:25Dianne: Each of the kids get at least 10.
- 38:27Michael: Yeah, they should give it a 12 or something.
- 38:29Michael: Just a 10, just for Fred Henderson.
- 38:31Michael: So yeah, 10.
- 38:33Eriic: Yeah, I mean, I was right there with you.
- 38:36Eriic: There was once again, with all those characters, even the, like you say, the, the, the the only one, who's the assistant, that or mayor, whatever, but literally all the characters.
- 38:47Eriic: The mayor lady when she steps up, yeah, nailed it.
- 38:51Eriic: Victor always nails it.
- 38:56Eriic: Kids, yeah, they do whatever.
- 38:58Michael: Ten.
- 38:59Michael: Like the assistant mayor, he was even good, but basically he had nothing to do.
- 39:02Michael: I mean, there wasn't much for him to do.
- 39:04Eriic: So somebody had to be the bad guy, you know you did get to come up and say my sister saw the hashtag.
- 39:10Dianne: Yeah, there you go, so here's my picture.
- 39:12Michael: His life was changed, so you go.
- 39:14Dianne: Somebody else, because I didn't recognize pictures.
- 39:16Dianne: I don't know.
- 39:16Dianne: Okay, where are we at?
- 39:18Eriic: in style Style.
- 39:23Michael: I would.
- 39:24Michael: I'll just go ahead and I'd say it was a six for me because it wasn't an overly stylish movie.
- 39:27Michael: It was fairly straight ahead Nothing, no fancy camera work, not a whole lot of special effects.
- 39:34Michael: Really it was a stylistic movie, it didn't.
- 39:38Michael: It's not like, wow, that was an incredible style in that movie.
- 39:41Michael: I didn't.
- 39:41Michael: If I'm just looking at from a film, if you're meaning filmmaking style, that's the way I would look at it.
- 39:46Michael: Just it was.
- 39:47Michael: It was fairly I wouldn't say pedestrian, but fairly average style movie for this, for what it was, you know.
- 39:53Michael: So that's why I gave it a six.
- 39:56Dianne: It's pretty subjective on the style.
- 39:58Dianne: I think I would go between a six and a seven and that it goes up a little for me because of the reindeer in all the little places.
- 40:07Dianne: I thought that was clever, the little POV.
- 40:11Michael: That was the most clever part of it.
- 40:12Dianne: The little specials that they put in their lighting.
- 40:14Dianne: And I think it's isn't it, Tony Mechie?
- 40:17Michael: that Tony Mechie did that he always does really solid work.
- 40:19Michael: Tony Mechie is also a director and sometimes he's a DP.
- 40:22Michael: It's a really interesting so but he was the DP on the movie.
- 40:25Dianne: I like him and yeah, I think that for me between a six and a seven, I would push it a little higher to seven.
- 40:32Eriic: Yeah yeah, I was there with the six, kind of just like you said, Michael, it's a whole lot of just okay.
- 40:39Eriic: Like I say Erica's clothes fantastic.
- 40:42Eriic: Missile Tomanner looked cute, but you know.
- 40:48Dianne: We didn't get to see a whole lot of it.
- 40:49Dianne: It had an establishing shot, but just but, it just was everything was, everything was good, nothing was bad, nothing was great.
- 40:58Dianne: Yeah, my favorite scene as far as you know what the place looked like was the opening scenes where everything was light and airy and you know sunlight coming in the curtains and all the nice furniture and tall ceilings and it just that.
- 41:15Dianne: That was my favorite part.
- 41:16Dianne: But once it got into more of the tunnels and everything like that, it just started to get a little more claustrophobic for me.
- 41:22Dianne: So you know, I like the scene where Victor's sitting in the chair holding her hand.
- 41:27Dianne: That was my favorite scene.
- 41:30Michael: I liked the console stereo scene which he puts on a record on the stereo.
- 41:33Michael: I don't know what it was playing.
- 41:34Dianne: It wasn't very great whether it didn't have a very good style.
- 41:38Michael: No, it's like they could have done something more Again.
- 41:40Michael: Maybe that was the track Taylor's problem, but the music wasn't great.
- 41:43Michael: But the idea of that scene you know was was really cool.
- 41:46Eriic: It should have been like a Nat King Cole being something, one of those 40s.
- 41:50Michael: They didn't want to spring for the 40s they didn't want to spring for it, so they did do it.
- 41:53Michael: So.
- 41:54Eriic: All right, you guys know what your score is.
- 41:57Eriic: That up to it doesn't really matter, because I guarantee this is our highest ranked movie ever, because we have three people rating it as opposed to two.
- 42:05Dianne: Who's job is it anyway?
- 42:06Dianne: Who's line is it anyway?
- 42:07Eriic: So if it exceeds a 70, we say it's definitely worth a watch and everything like that so my, I was a 34.
- 42:16Dianne: So, I'm like 33 to 34.
- 42:19Dianne: So let's call it 33 and a half.
- 42:21Eriic: So yeah, so we're in like a hundred and we're like 110.
- 42:26Michael: So oh yeah, there's, movies, yeah, so that's according to our sc.
- 42:31Eriic: we've never had a hundred before, so there we go.
- 42:34Dianne: Well, I feel probably we should probably divide our score in half, though I don't know.
- 42:38Dianne: Now you're close enough.
- 42:39Eriic: So but regardless, I think we all, at the end of the day we just sort of rank it and then we say throw away the rankings and would we enjoy it again.
- 42:46Eriic: Yes, I think we all enjoyed it and it was definitely watchable and I'd recommend a fun watch.
- 42:52Michael: Yeah, I'd recommend it.
- 42:53Eriic: Yeah, so like I said in the acting, it was such is great.
- 42:57Michael: I was like I appreciate that I always like to mention the director.
- 43:01Michael: Alan Harmon directed this and he started many, many movies and so for Hallmark and he did a fine job with this.
- 43:07Dianne: So so there you go.
- 43:08Dianne: All right, it was fun.
- 43:11Eriic: What else can we talk about?
- 43:12Eriic: Well, why don't you tell everyone where they can find you guys?
- 43:16Dianne: Well, you can find us at Hallmark Cafe on Instagram and we have a Facebook group of the Hallmark Cafe, and you can find our podcasts on Apple and Spotify.
- 43:29Michael: Yeah, and Google other places.
- 43:30Michael: I don't really know where it goes.
- 43:32Dianne: Out there, it's out there, we just are pretty much every week right we do we missed one or maybe two weeks in the summer?
- 43:39Dianne: We actually got to be background actors on Kevin Kostner's move to the horizon, so that was fun and we were so exhausted by the time we got home.
- 43:47Eriic: We didn't have the energy to watch a movie you teased about how you were in that and then you didn't reveal what it was right away and I was like where were you guys?
- 43:54Eriic: Come on, you got to tell me we were under an NDA.
- 43:55Dianne: I know we had an NDA.
- 43:57Michael: We couldn't say anything, now we can say it.
- 43:58Dianne: We can say it.
- 43:59Dianne: We can't share any pictures, although we shouldn't say that we snuck a few, but we did so we know what we looked like.
- 44:05Michael: But we don't look like this.
- 44:06Michael: No, we look like pioneers.
- 44:09Dianne: I know we were settlers and it was really fun.
- 44:11Dianne: We were up close and personal with the director, with a couple scenes for Kostner.
- 44:17Dianne: And we might get some face time on the morning.
- 44:20Eriic: I think I know you will.
- 44:21Eriic: When did it come out?
- 44:22Eriic: In August, august, okay.
- 44:24Dianne: So you have no ways.
- 44:25Dianne: Once it comes out, we can talk about it.
- 44:27Michael: It's a big budget, western, and there's going to be four of them and we're in Horizon 2.
- 44:32Dianne: So I think the first one's going to be on in March or something.
- 44:36Michael: No, april and June, and then this one comes out in August.
- 44:39Michael: So they're going to do like two big blockbusters in one summer.
- 44:43Michael: They're going to try that out next summer.
- 44:45Dianne: And now that the strike is over we're hoping he goes back because he's ready.
- 44:48Dianne: He's got part three to do and hopefully we haven't been killed off, so maybe we'll have to go back.
- 44:54Michael: But this was filmed near Moab and we don't live too far from Moab because we're right on the border with Utah and Utah has a really good film industry and so they make a lot of movies in Utah and make a lot of Hallmark movies like the Holly or Made in Salt Lake.
- 45:06Michael: City, so or near there.
- 45:08Michael: So they make a lot of movies for Hallmark there and then they make other movies there.
- 45:12Michael: So we're right across the border, so we just zipped over there and you know well, an hour and a half is zipping, but yeah, and now we're.
- 45:20Dianne: Yeah, did I say we were tired at the end of the day?
- 45:22Eriic: Yeah, so you're driving back and forth every day?
- 45:25Eriic: Yeah, we did.
- 45:27Dianne: Some of the background, actually negotiated hotel rooms and I'm like how did you?
- 45:31Michael: do it Because we came in late, we were kind of late.
- 45:33Michael: So next, if they put us in a movie again, we'll ask.
- 45:36Michael: We'll ask next time.
- 45:38Dianne: But it was so much fun I recommend anybody out there, if you have a chance, to even try to do a background thing.
- 45:44Dianne: That is so much fun to watch how it works and be part of it.
- 45:48Eriic: Back in the day, my arm and my groin were in a commercial.
- 45:56Eriic: So we were back when I worked in an agency in LA and they need, they were filming the commercial and they had it basically all done, but they just needed some of the essentially like the closeups of different things.
- 46:07Eriic: And so they just said, hey, we'll give it was for a golf company.
- 46:11Eriic: And they're like, hey, we'll give you guys, a driver if you come out.
- 46:15Eriic: And so we spent all day filming because you had it.
- 46:18Eriic: There was like the morning and then the evening and then you didn't do anything during the entire middle part of the day Cause they wanted that.
- 46:25Eriic: You know that sunlight is the light and right, and so they did it.
- 46:31Eriic: And then, when all of a sudden done, there's one scene where you just my arm sways and another one where they do a pan across the lower part of our body.
- 46:40Eriic: There's the four of us and they do.
- 46:44Dianne: On the hip, turn just walking.
- 46:46Eriic: We're just walking, it's like four, four guys across, and so they just did like a little thing All your friends was on.
- 46:52Michael: Hey, that's me, that's me, that's my crotch.
- 46:56Dianne: So how good a driver was it that they gave it?
- 46:59Eriic: Oh, it was actually unfortunate it was in tailor-made, uh little down period.
- 47:04Eriic: They were great beforehand.
- 47:05Eriic: Then they were had some crap equipment for a couple of years and then they came back with great ones and unfortunately my window was when they were doing the crap equipment, but I got to play amazing courses and.
- 47:18Eriic: I got to play golf all the time and stuff, which was fantastic.
- 47:22Dianne: But what do you play?
- 47:23Dianne: What do you play?
- 47:24Dianne: I mean what do you shoot?
- 47:26Eriic: Well.
- 47:26Eriic: I don't play anymore but back when I did I was down to a four.
- 47:31Eriic: Wow, that wasn't, that was okay, it was okay, except for all my friends played college golf and they were all like plus two, so I could shoot 73 and I would lose by five.
- 47:42Dianne: Yeah, I would be like a 16.
- 47:45Eriic: Yeah, one of my, one of my good one of my good friends had a eight birdies in a row, nine in 10 holes, and shot 76.
- 47:55Eriic: He had the worst temper of anyone I've ever.
- 47:57Eriic: If he could ever get his head in the game he would have been phenomenal.
- 48:02Dianne: But I think that's better at minigal.
- 48:04Michael: I think there should be a mystery where the you know the detective is a golfer, you know, or there we go.
- 48:09Dianne: You know, there we go.
- 48:10Dianne: I was always thinking it would be fun, maybe, maybe when we can reciprocate.
- 48:14Eriic: They do in one of the one of the chronicles.
- 48:16Eriic: That's true.
- 48:21Dianne: We could do a little game where we come up with an idea and then we used to do this with songwriting all the time, where we'd sit, because co-writing in Nashville is a big thing.
- 48:28Dianne: So you throw out a line and then somebody would have to answer with another line and then by the time, but it got kind of crazy.
- 48:34Dianne: So we could do that with a movie idea.
- 48:36Dianne: Okay.
- 48:39Michael: That happened when they wrote Aki Breaky Heart.
- 48:41Dianne: It was just like that we could kind of toss ideas back and forth.
- 48:45Dianne: We come up with a line, and you come up with a line, and then, before you know it, we'll have a script.
- 48:49Eriic: Before you know it's all done and then you can get your buddy there.
- 48:51Dianne: Or concept Steve Borragar.
- 48:52Dianne: Get him over here, please.
- 48:53Eriic: Yeah, help us To finish it off for us.
- 48:56Dianne: I don't know.
- 48:56Dianne: He won't talk to us now.
- 48:57Dianne: No, I'm just kidding.
- 49:00Eriic: He's too busy writing that next script.
- 49:02Dianne: All right, Thank you so much for having me Well it was a pleasure having you.
- 49:06Eriic: We'll have to do it again.
- 49:08Dianne: Yeah, we shall.
- 49:10Eriic: Now that the strike is over, right, we can get some new messages, because it was getting close.
- 49:13Michael: We need them pretty dry.
- 49:14Dianne: I mean the year was done.
- 49:15Dianne: I love Christmas, but I always look forward to January.
- 49:20Eriic: And we need to get those writers writing again, because we need some mysteries to read.
- 49:26Dianne: I'll tell you I'm looking forward to.
- 49:27Dianne: I really want another case of Mystery Lane.
- 49:30Dianne: I really want another one, 100% agree Everyone agrees with that.
- 49:37Eriic: Everyone agrees with that.
- 49:37Eriic: Other than swing my heart podcast.
- 49:40Eriic: I don't know if you guys follow them at all, but they came out with their list that they were their followers voted on and it didn't make their list, or like they have to then vote from the top eight and then whoever it is I'm like.
- 49:56Eriic: So I said I don't know how that didn't make it.
- 50:00Eriic: Yeah, that was in my opinion, clearly the best of the year, and there were good ones.
- 50:06Michael: Yeah.
- 50:08Dianne: But that was the best.
- 50:09Dianne: Oh my gosh, we talked to there we talked to those writers.
- 50:12Eriic: They were, they were awesome, they were awesome.
- 50:14Eriic: That was their first, first hallmark.
- 50:16Michael: Cool Now.
- 50:17Michael: Well then, we need another one of those.
- 50:20Eriic: I really like that one Because we're very we're picky, we're picky about these things.
- 50:25Dianne: We love our mysteries and don't mess with them.
- 50:28Dianne: You know, don't mess with us.
- 50:29Dianne: Give us good mysteries because we got to have them and I am so getting a set of those.
- 50:35Eriic: I'm just glad that you guys didn't say your favorite mysteries, mystery 101, and it's got to come back and no, I'm okay with that.
- 50:43Dianne: I actually wouldn't mind it if they brought back the concept somehow and recast it, because it may be picked, it may be do a prequel or something.
- 50:50Dianne: That would be fine, all right.
- 50:52Dianne: So last year that was our favorite person in that mystery was the father with what was his name.
- 50:57Dianne: Oh yeah, I love Robin Robin, yeah, yeah.
- 51:02Eriic: So, just so you know and I got in trouble for this because we came out with a 10 things we want to see in homework last a year and like February, and one of them was my idea was Windy City Mysteries, which was the prequel, with Travis and Aaron- Cahill oh, his ex-Carrill, aaron Cahill.
- 51:22Dianne: We're back, when they're back, when they're still in Chicago.
- 51:24Eriic: Yeah yeah, mystery 101.
- 51:25Eriic: People hate me for it, oh she just won the screen.
- 51:29Eriic: I love her, so we published it.
- 51:30Eriic: I made like a little fake cover and I started talking about it over and it got in like the Facebook world where people were all like saying, oh, this is why it's not coming back, and people are like, no, that's a joke, it's not really happening, it took its own life and stuff.
- 51:43Dianne: So that's a great idea though, because we often said that when on that last episode that she I mean they brought some heat, they have Aaron Cahill is fantastic and that would be a great substitute.
- 51:55Michael: We thought that would work.
- 51:56Michael: But you know, it's nothing against Jill Wagner or anybody's, just whatever.
- 52:00Dianne: Well, she's not available anymore.
- 52:01Michael: Whatever is happening, you know they want to continue on with the characters.
- 52:05Michael: They'd have to do something different.
- 52:06Michael: So you know what can you do?
- 52:08Michael: What?
- 52:09Eriic: can you do?
- 52:10Michael: But you know I did look for whatever they're going to come up with next year.
- 52:12Dianne: I can't wait.
- 52:13Eriic: Always looking forward to see.
- 52:14Eriic: We know it's curious, kater.
- 52:16Eriic: Probably Hannah Swenson.
- 52:18Dianne: I wish we could talk him into another gourmet detective.
- 52:22Eriic: So does Dylan.
- 52:22Eriic: So I talked to Dylan Neal, one of the guys who talks to me behind the scenes, and he agrees with you.
- 52:27Michael: Yeah, he was.
- 52:28Michael: He had a lot to do.
- 52:29Michael: He has a wife, though.
- 52:30Michael: Those are really good, so let's hope.
- 52:33Dianne: Let's hope so well.
- 52:34Dianne: Anyway, feel free to reach out to us anytime and reciprocate.
- 52:38Dianne: We'll have you on it.
- 52:39Dianne: We'll have it in a blast, thanks.
- 52:41Eriic: I don't talk about the.
- 52:42Eriic: I do my little one minute reviews for the, for the romcom.
- 52:47Michael: So yeah, it'd be fun to deep dive into one.
- 52:49Dianne: Oh yeah, any time you want, it'll be fun, thank you so much Thanks, we'll talk to you.
- 52:52Dianne: Bye.
