- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes eight hundred through eight oh two.
- 0:17Speaker 1: The first and the second join the vin Smoke Family,
- 0:21Speaker 1: The Benefactor's Life, Sonjy and Owners Zeph and an angry
- 0:27Speaker 1: Soanji the Secret of Germa sixty six. In these episodes,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Sonji's family really sucks. Ass just keeps showing new levels
- 0:40Speaker 1: of sucking, from bullying to creating soldiers out of science
- 0:47Speaker 1: to bullying. It's just I really want him to take
- 0:53Speaker 1: these guys down. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to the
- 1:15Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you. I believe it's
- 1:20Speaker 1: Bernadette for commissioning this episode. Apologies if I got that wrong,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'm going to go double check now. But yeah, this section, guys,
- 1:32Speaker 1: First of all, I'm just going to acknowledge that, like
- 1:35Speaker 1: we get a replay of Sanji's whole storyline, which is
- 1:42Speaker 1: a little bit of like unnecessary. I I have Oh sorry,
- 1:49Speaker 1: Florian says eight hundred. You only have like three hundred
- 1:52Speaker 1: and fifty episodes left till you're caught up. Do you
- 1:55Speaker 1: make three hundred and fifty eight podcast episodes, Florian? Or
- 1:57Speaker 1: three hundred and fifty TV show episode. I actually haven't
- 2:02Speaker 1: been keeping track of like how many there are. Seraphim says,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I believe you mean science. You need the emphasis to
- 2:11Speaker 1: make clear it's mad science fair. I'm gonna do science
- 2:17Speaker 1: in quotes TV show episodes. Oh shit, Okay, so wow, Yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm very close to being caught up. Very interesting to
- 2:25Speaker 1: see what it's like to be caught up because I'm
- 2:30Speaker 1: gonna be able to go into like fandom spaces a
- 2:32Speaker 1: little bit, not a lot, because like, I'm pretty sure
- 2:36Speaker 1: the show is going to immediately outpace me having caught up,
- 2:40Speaker 1: But I wonder if that will draw like new listeners
- 2:43Speaker 1: and stuff. If I'm now caught up and able to
- 2:47Speaker 1: fully be spoiled, I imagine I'll still have to like stay
- 2:52Speaker 1: out of the spoiler free discord and everything like that.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But anyway, so okay, let's begin with I'm gonna just
- 3:05Speaker 1: talk about Loofy first because frankly, what's going on with
- 3:08Speaker 1: him is kind of the least interesting. And this isn't
- 3:12Speaker 1: really shade because this is a good section. It's just
- 3:18Speaker 1: more everybody else has got like new information being revealed
- 3:25Speaker 1: or being able to flex in a different way, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: he's the only one that's kind of just doing what
- 3:32Speaker 1: he always does, which is fight, fight, fight, And there's
- 3:36Speaker 1: nothing wrong with that whatsoever. But you guys know that
- 3:41Speaker 1: for me, mostly the action sequences in this show are
- 3:45Speaker 1: what I find the least interesting. I am much more
- 3:48Speaker 1: into the story and character development, or if Lufy does,
- 3:52Speaker 1: like learn a new technique or something, that will be
- 3:55Speaker 1: an exception. But usually it's just a lot of smashing,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and it's not that different from the other smashing that
- 4:04Speaker 1: we have seen many many times. The only like, the
- 4:10Speaker 1: main thing that I will say in favor of the
- 4:14Speaker 1: difference here is because the people that he are fighting
- 4:21Speaker 1: are these cookie people. I think that it's kind of
- 4:26Speaker 1: fun to see him smash as much as he does,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and then it sort of goes nowhere. You know, he's
- 4:33Speaker 1: doing what he normally does, but because he isn't fighting
- 4:37Speaker 1: your average enemy, it doesn't work out as it would
- 4:43Speaker 1: with people they are. I won't say it's resilient, the
- 4:48Speaker 1: word I want when they do like break apart, but
- 4:51Speaker 1: they can basically get put back together again pretty quickly,
- 4:55Speaker 1: pretty easily, and so breaking them isn't actually accomplishing anything.
- 5:01Speaker 1: It's just slowing them down and it's causing Loofy to
- 5:08Speaker 1: use up a ton of energy for nothing, so he
- 5:11Speaker 1: winds up in this place where he has to literally
- 5:14Speaker 1: like go sleep because he has spent all his mana.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Is the way that I think of it. He has
- 5:22Speaker 1: used up all his manna and he needs time to recharge.
- 5:26Speaker 1: He doesn't have any potions or food to eat. Honestly,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I kind of wonder if he couldn't eat some of
- 5:34Speaker 1: his surroundings maybe and make up for some of this
- 5:37Speaker 1: lost energy. I don't know how that works, but it's
- 5:42Speaker 1: a lot of like him yelling at this guy, punching things,
- 5:47Speaker 1: posturing this guy posturing right back, and it feels it
- 5:55Speaker 1: feels like there's going to have to be a difference
- 5:59Speaker 1: in the way he decides to approach things, because this
- 6:04Speaker 1: is clearly not the method for this particular enemy. But
- 6:08Speaker 1: Lufi isn't really known for being adaptable, so I genuinely
- 6:14Speaker 1: am not sure what it is he's going to do.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Even if he gets all his energy back, even if
- 6:22Speaker 1: he wakes upt fully charged, Nami has managed to buy
- 6:26Speaker 1: him all this time. If he goes through it again
- 6:31Speaker 1: the same way he has been, it's not really going
- 6:35Speaker 1: to be better. You know, I don't know. There's no
- 6:41Speaker 1: point in just jumping back into the fight with the
- 6:44Speaker 1: same methodology. So how will he change it up? Or
- 6:49Speaker 1: how can he change it up? Now here's my approach,
- 6:58Speaker 1: And you guys, I may be way off base on this.
- 7:01Speaker 1: This might not work, Okay, I acknowledge this, but I
- 7:07Speaker 1: will say that I want it to be explored just
- 7:11Speaker 1: to verify that it won't work. I want Lufy to
- 7:18Speaker 1: eat the enemy. I want him to eat all the cookies.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I want Lufy to give in to his gluttonous nature
- 7:27Speaker 1: while facing off against an enemy literally made a food.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And I want to see if that, if there is
- 7:34Speaker 1: like an unlimited supply of cookie, will this guy get
- 7:39Speaker 1: worn out himself by having to produce more and more cookies?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Is that possible? Does that wear him out? Because I
- 7:47Speaker 1: don't think no matter how many cookies this man produces,
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a while before Loofy starts
- 7:55Speaker 1: to get sick of eating too many cookies. We saw
- 7:58Speaker 1: him eat a cafe like granted, not the whole thing,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and he had help. But like you know, I just
- 8:05Speaker 1: think that it's likely that could be effective. It would
- 8:11Speaker 1: also keep up his own energy and potentially could be
- 8:15Speaker 1: like an effective method against other enemies that have like
- 8:19Speaker 1: food based weapons. And I I just I know that
- 8:27Speaker 1: there's the possibility that this guy there's no limit to
- 8:30Speaker 1: how many cookies he can make. It's possible that he,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you know, if Lufy were to try this, this guy
- 8:38Speaker 1: would just keep sending cookies at him until eventually Loofy
- 8:43Speaker 1: was overwhelmed. Anyway, And yes, possible, But I keep imagining
- 8:49Speaker 1: that episode of The Simpsons where Homer gets sent to
- 8:53Speaker 1: Hell after making a deal with the devil for a doughnut,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and then he winds up in how because he's paying
- 9:01Speaker 1: the price for the donut and the punishment that he's
- 9:04Speaker 1: being given is being force fed donuts, And eventually the
- 9:08Speaker 1: demon in charge of force feeding him is like, Okay,
- 9:12Speaker 1: anybody are we is this guy isn't getting tired of
- 9:17Speaker 1: eating these? Should I keep doing this? Or I just
- 9:22Speaker 1: see Loofy being very similar of like there's not a limit,
- 9:26Speaker 1: He'll just keep going. Especially when he was eating a cafe,
- 9:33Speaker 1: he was just eating. But this would be eating and
- 9:36Speaker 1: fighting and thus burning off some of that energy. So
- 9:40Speaker 1: it might be that he winds up not actually getting
- 9:47Speaker 1: full because he's simultaneously burning the calories. Again, I don't
- 9:53Speaker 1: know if this is how things work in this world,
- 9:55Speaker 1: but I think that could be pretty fun to watch.
- 9:58Speaker 1: At least even if it doesn't wind up work, I
- 10:00Speaker 1: think it could be cool. So that's that's my little
- 10:07Speaker 1: suggestion Slash Druthers for Louvi's pov. So, and now let's
- 10:15Speaker 1: talk about what's going on with Nami, Because Nami winds
- 10:19Speaker 1: up like kind of swooping in right around the point
- 10:23Speaker 1: where Lufy begins to lose his energy, and she has
- 10:28Speaker 1: to draw this guy off and give Loofy time to
- 10:32Speaker 1: hide and rest, and she has to convince all of
- 10:36Speaker 1: the homies. I still can't get over that that's what
- 10:39Speaker 1: they're called guys, genuinely, Like, I don't know, it's just
- 10:44Speaker 1: so funny. But she has to convince them repeatedly to
- 10:48Speaker 1: do what she says by brandishing the viver card of
- 10:55Speaker 1: Big Moms over and over and over again. And I'm
- 10:58Speaker 1: gonna be honest, I just don't really like this whole thing.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I think it's very like tenuous her having this kind
- 11:07Speaker 1: of power over them. It just doesn't really make a
- 11:10Speaker 1: lot of sense to me that, like if they were
- 11:14Speaker 1: worried that she could somehow hurt Big Mom because she
- 11:17Speaker 1: has that viver card. Maybe, but I haven't seen evidence
- 11:20Speaker 1: that that's really what this is. They're sort of behaving
- 11:23Speaker 1: as if anything she says is coming through Big Mom
- 11:28Speaker 1: and that and the way she's framing it is like,
- 11:31Speaker 1: if you don't do what I say, you're going to
- 11:33Speaker 1: get in trouble from her. But she's telling you to
- 11:38Speaker 1: do the opposite of what Big Mom gave you orders
- 11:42Speaker 1: to do, so logically this doesn't really make any sense.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And I think that if we had seen that the
- 11:50Speaker 1: viver cards represented essentially I'm speaking with this person's voice
- 11:56Speaker 1: before now, maybe I wouldn't be so hung up on it.
- 12:01Speaker 1: But it just feels like we're suddenly reckconning that this
- 12:06Speaker 1: is a thing in order to give Nami some power
- 12:11Speaker 1: in this situation, and it just doesn't really feel legitimate.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It feels like we didn't know what else to do
- 12:19Speaker 1: with her, and so we're gonna have this vivercard thing
- 12:23Speaker 1: actually give her power over these beings. It's just not
- 12:28Speaker 1: really like, it doesn't make sense to me. It's not
- 12:31Speaker 1: hitting for me. I don't like it, so just you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I wanted I should mention that like last episode, I
- 12:38Speaker 1: think right before I went on my birthday week break,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I was saying that there was nobody in the chat,
- 12:45Speaker 1: and it turned out later it does there was somebody
- 12:49Speaker 1: in the chat, and our chat was just malfunctioning, so
- 12:52Speaker 1: I couldn't see it. Once I ended the thing, I
- 12:55Speaker 1: could see the chat, of course, So there were people
- 12:59Speaker 1: trying to explain the whole thing with that. Like Big
- 13:01Speaker 1: Mom imbued her a piece of her soul into the
- 13:05Speaker 1: viaver card, I feel like it wasn't established that this
- 13:08Speaker 1: was something that viver cards could do. It doesn't make
- 13:11Speaker 1: sense to me that the homies are worried about getting
- 13:13Speaker 1: in trouble with Big Mom for not doing what Nami
- 13:16Speaker 1: says when she's telling them to do the opposite of
- 13:19Speaker 1: what Big Mom's orders were. The whole thing feels like
- 13:23Speaker 1: we're retconning how viver cards work because we didn't have
- 13:26Speaker 1: a plot line for Nami, and we need something for
- 13:29Speaker 1: her to do, and we need to give her some
- 13:31Speaker 1: kind of power, and this was what we came up with.
- 13:34Speaker 1: The viver card thing obviously was supposed to have been
- 13:38Speaker 1: planted back when we met Lola, so I don't think
- 13:42Speaker 1: it actually is a retcon, but it hasn't really been
- 13:46Speaker 1: established rat like adequately in my mind that this is
- 13:51Speaker 1: ever how they work. So this being pulled out now
- 13:55Speaker 1: as some sort of leverage against these creatures, it fel
- 14:00Speaker 1: very sudden and silly. It just doesn't really like I
- 14:05Speaker 1: don't even understand why Nami would know that this is
- 14:08Speaker 1: how it works, you know what I mean, She's she
- 14:12Speaker 1: pulls it out in this way that feels like there's
- 14:17Speaker 1: immediate understanding for her that, oh, everybody here is behaving
- 14:22Speaker 1: in such a way because I have this and is
- 14:26Speaker 1: really confident in the way that she's wielding it. And
- 14:30Speaker 1: I don't get why she is like even putting it together.
- 14:33Speaker 1: That's what's going on here because I don't know it
- 14:38Speaker 1: just it doesn't work for me. And the fact that
- 14:42Speaker 1: they are, like like I said, worried about getting in
- 14:46Speaker 1: trouble when they are doing the opposite of what they
- 14:49Speaker 1: were told to do by Big Mom herself. I don't
- 14:53Speaker 1: get that either. You know. The whole thing is and
- 14:57Speaker 1: like Serafrum says so on the favor card thing, this
- 15:01Speaker 1: is likely not a usual thing, but something unique to
- 15:03Speaker 1: Big Mom due to the soul so fruit right, it
- 15:07Speaker 1: slipped out on accident at first, then she saw the
- 15:09Speaker 1: homies reaction and was quick to exploit it. Yeah, I
- 15:13Speaker 1: guess it's just I don't know, guys, it's not hitting
- 15:16Speaker 1: for me, and I think that also. Another part of
- 15:18Speaker 1: it is it's very repetitive, you know. It's her telling
- 15:21Speaker 1: them to do things, them insisting they can't do it,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and then her wielding the card and being like did
- 15:26Speaker 1: you forget about this? Even though she just wielded it
- 15:29Speaker 1: and said did you forget about this? Literally ten seconds ago,
- 15:33Speaker 1: And she's just doing that over and over and over.
- 15:36Speaker 1: It's just not really interesting, you know. So overall for me,
- 15:39Speaker 1: everything that's going on with Nami and Lufy is like, wait,
- 15:44Speaker 1: by far the most boring part of these three episodes.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It's just like, punch punch, punch, punch punch. I'm tired.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Loofy and Namy do the thing. We won't do the thing?
- 15:56Speaker 1: Do you forget? I have the thing to make it?
- 15:57Speaker 1: Do the thing we forgot? Yeah, we will do the
- 16:00Speaker 1: thing ad nauseum, you know. So anyway, that's that's that.
- 16:05Speaker 1: With that, it's fine, let's talk about Sony and his family.
- 16:13Speaker 1: So we get a refresh and I say it refresh,
- 16:17Speaker 1: It's not really, it's like a full on. We see
- 16:19Speaker 1: the whole scene again of Soanjy on the island with Zev.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Is it Szev, guys, I've already forgotten his name, but Zef,
- 16:36Speaker 1: thank you, Florien. We see that whole scene, which, honestly,
- 16:45Speaker 1: I am always puzzled with this show on how they
- 16:52Speaker 1: determine what we need to be completely refreshed on and
- 16:55Speaker 1: what we don't. There will be characters that we saw
- 16:59Speaker 1: one time one hundred and fifty episodes ago in a
- 17:02Speaker 1: minor scene and they kind of won't remind us where
- 17:07Speaker 1: they're from and just expect us to remember. And then
- 17:11Speaker 1: there's things like this where we have to see the
- 17:13Speaker 1: whole scene again, as if we would ever forget how
- 17:17Speaker 1: this went down because it's incredibly memorable and important to
- 17:22Speaker 1: this character. Of course we didn't forget, you know. It's
- 17:25Speaker 1: just weird. There are so many times where you guys
- 17:28Speaker 1: have to be like, oh, yeah, we met this person
- 17:30Speaker 1: here here, and I'm like, oh, and I have no
- 17:34Speaker 1: recollection and the show doesn't remind me when it's a
- 17:38Speaker 1: ripe moment for them to exploit the need for patting.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And then there are things like this where I'm like,
- 17:45Speaker 1: nobody doesn't remember how important zeph is Tsanji. Nobody. There
- 17:49Speaker 1: isn't a soul who doesn't remember that. Come on, it's
- 17:53Speaker 1: also very funny now that you guys have like told
- 17:56Speaker 1: me about what was originally meant to have happened, the
- 18:00Speaker 1: fact that like, he ate his leg in the manga,
- 18:04Speaker 1: but they softened it for the TV show and had
- 18:06Speaker 1: it be that it came off due to an injury.
- 18:10Speaker 1: It's so weak sauce that they decided to have it
- 18:14Speaker 1: be an injury from trying to rescue Sanji. It's really pitiful,
- 18:19Speaker 1: Like there is no other explanation for how he's still
- 18:24Speaker 1: alive with having no food for that whole twenty days.
- 18:28Speaker 1: There's no other explanation except that he ate his own leg.
- 18:31Speaker 1: And the reveal after Sanji just said, you have to
- 18:34Speaker 1: have been eaten eating something and then you see that
- 18:37Speaker 1: his leg is gone. Obviously, it's just a weird thing
- 18:42Speaker 1: to have him say you had to have been eating something,
- 18:45Speaker 1: his leg is gone, and then we flashed back to
- 18:48Speaker 1: the thing getting yanked off in this in like underwater.
- 18:51Speaker 1: It doesn't make any sense. And the fact that they
- 18:53Speaker 1: thought people couldn't handle. It is just laughable. This show
- 18:57Speaker 1: is full of all kinds of crazy violin. Why don't
- 19:01Speaker 1: we draw the line here? It doesn't make any sense
- 19:04Speaker 1: to me, frankly, Like this is the thing that we
- 19:06Speaker 1: think is so taboo that we can't you know what
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's just weird. So anyway, this whole thing
- 19:16Speaker 1: is like brought up because they are planning to use
- 19:23Speaker 1: zeph as leverage to make Soanji do what he's told.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And I really just don't see a better method for
- 19:34Speaker 1: controlling Sanji. This is pretty much it. It's that Eggman
- 19:41Speaker 1: who is the one who brings this information to Sonji's father,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and he tells his dad Judge like, this is his weakness.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I thought that for the sake of you needing to
- 19:57Speaker 1: keep him in line, I needed to give you some
- 19:59Speaker 1: kind of ammunition. And yeah, it's I just don't really
- 20:05Speaker 1: see how Soanji overcomes his feeling of obligation to these guys,
- 20:17Speaker 1: to this guy. And I can't help but wonder if
- 20:21Speaker 1: this is going to be the reason why he winds
- 20:24Speaker 1: up marrying Pudding after all. Like, just for the record, everybody,
- 20:28Speaker 1: I know I've said it already, but I'll say it again.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I am pro Sanji marrying Pudding. They are a great match.
- 20:35Speaker 1: She's adorable. She loves to cook also, but she cooks
- 20:38Speaker 1: different things. And I get that he doesn't want to
- 20:41Speaker 1: do this because of what it would mean for the
- 20:43Speaker 1: straw Hats. Whatever. We'll figure out a way around that.
- 20:46Speaker 1: We'll find a way to deal with that later. But
- 20:50Speaker 1: I for the just the principle of the marriage itself.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I think they would be delightful together. So if he
- 20:58Speaker 1: were to go through with it, I'm down. You know.
- 21:01Speaker 1: It's just that I do get his look, even if
- 21:06Speaker 1: it weren't for the whole uh, I need to keep
- 21:11Speaker 1: Big Mom from like basically either taking over the straw
- 21:15Speaker 1: Hat Pirates or taking me away from the straw Hat Pirates.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Even if that weren't the thing, I would understand not
- 21:25Speaker 1: wanting to marry her simply out of principle of them
- 21:28Speaker 1: telling him what to do, because I am also that
- 21:32Speaker 1: kind of subborn you know, I am a person who
- 21:36Speaker 1: really doesn't respond well to being forced into anything. I
- 21:39Speaker 1: am going to be very very salty and uncooperative, even
- 21:44Speaker 1: to the point where I wind up like injuring myself
- 21:48Speaker 1: in some way. I know that it's not a good trait.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I really am aware of it and try and fight it,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but I can't help that that's how I feel. And
- 22:02Speaker 1: so if it were just the fact that, I mean,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do what you want me to do,
- 22:08Speaker 1: even if that were it, I would respect it. I
- 22:10Speaker 1: really kind of would. But all things considered, his hang
- 22:16Speaker 1: ups about it are valid and understandable. I just really
- 22:22Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind seeing what it looks like for Sanji
- 22:27Speaker 1: to not only like be with somebody permanently, but also
- 22:31Speaker 1: to be with somebody who has the same like interest
- 22:36Speaker 1: that he has, you know what I mean. There's something
- 22:39Speaker 1: about both of them being into cooking that I think
- 22:43Speaker 1: is just adorable, and I would I would love to
- 22:48Speaker 1: see the two of them on the sunny, him making
- 22:53Speaker 1: dinner and her making dessert, and the way that they
- 22:56Speaker 1: would behave with each other. I think it would be adorable.
- 22:59Speaker 1: So it's just uh, Saraphim says, yeah, it makes sense
- 23:04Speaker 1: to you, like Rioka in regard to the wandering in
- 23:07Speaker 1: which I made a thread in the discord, because I'm
- 23:10Speaker 1: listening to the audiobook in my downtime, And yeah, I
- 23:13Speaker 1: said that. I said that in the discord that like,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I relate to Rioka just being obstinate for the sake
- 23:18Speaker 1: of it. I completely get Rioka as a character fundamentally,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and her like simmering rage all the time. I get
- 23:24Speaker 1: that too. I don't have the same reaction with it
- 23:27Speaker 1: as she does, but I get it. So yeah. Uh.
- 23:33Speaker 1: The scene that we start off with is him with
- 23:37Speaker 1: his family sitting down to a meal, and the first
- 23:41Speaker 1: thing that he says to one of his brothers is
- 23:45Speaker 1: finish your meal, don't waste that food, and his brother
- 23:48Speaker 1: says something about how the sauce that is made for
- 23:52Speaker 1: this for topping this meal is disgusting and he's not
- 23:56Speaker 1: going to finish it, and Sanji instantly like gets in
- 24:02Speaker 1: his feelings about it. And it's sort of funny because, look,
- 24:07Speaker 1: if this were being written a different way, I understand
- 24:12Speaker 1: that what we're doing is we're having characters act very
- 24:15Speaker 1: much in character and very obviously in character for the
- 24:23Speaker 1: way that this story is told. But if we were
- 24:26Speaker 1: going to actually be smart about this, what we would
- 24:30Speaker 1: do is have sanjy unwilling to let it show how
- 24:35Speaker 1: much it bothers him, and he would be he would
- 24:40Speaker 1: say something about it, maybe, but he wouldn't be. So
- 24:43Speaker 1: what he does is he gives his siblings an opening
- 24:48Speaker 1: because he shows them what bothers him, and they are
- 24:54Speaker 1: able to then zero in on oh, here's obviously a
- 24:59Speaker 1: way to get under his skin, and his brother whinds
- 25:04Speaker 1: up not only arguing about how like, no, I'm not
- 25:07Speaker 1: going to finish this, but then he calls the chef
- 25:11Speaker 1: into the room and beraates her in front of everybody
- 25:17Speaker 1: and then throws the plate of food at her, and
- 25:23Speaker 1: Soanji manages to interpose himself to keep her from getting hit.
- 25:28Speaker 1: But it's really like for him the very last straw,
- 25:33Speaker 1: He's like, it's one thing for you to be arrogant
- 25:36Speaker 1: and wasteful, and it's another thing for you to hit women,
- 25:40Speaker 1: Like what the fuck is wrong with you? And clearly
- 25:45Speaker 1: his brother is just like, how can you give a fuck?
- 25:51Speaker 1: That's what it comes down to in all of this.
- 25:54Speaker 1: At one point it's sort of weird. His brother says
- 25:59Speaker 1: something about, how ever, since you were a child, you
- 26:04Speaker 1: have thought in a way that was completely inexplicable to
- 26:09Speaker 1: the rest of the family. But then his father holds
- 26:15Speaker 1: up the picture of Zef and is like, I think
- 26:18Speaker 1: this is the guy who like corrupted your mind, and
- 26:21Speaker 1: I kind of wanted somebody to point out you just
- 26:25Speaker 1: said he's been like this since he was a kid,
- 26:27Speaker 1: though you literally just said that, so obviously you know,
- 26:32Speaker 1: and what it is is, I'm holding this guy up
- 26:34Speaker 1: because I'm threatening him to you know. But it was
- 26:37Speaker 1: just that bit of dialogue that I kind of felt
- 26:39Speaker 1: like I thought we all had just established that he
- 26:42Speaker 1: has been like this since he was a child, So
- 26:44Speaker 1: that doesn't that doesn't make sense as an explanation either way.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I don't, like, I have no doubt that they would
- 26:56Speaker 1: be able to take down Zez. They know exactly the
- 27:01Speaker 1: restaurant name, and even though he's far away. It's really funny,
- 27:06Speaker 1: guys to think back, how do you guys feel sometimes
- 27:11Speaker 1: when this show does a when you start over and
- 27:17Speaker 1: you look at the fact that, like finding a map
- 27:21Speaker 1: to get into the Grand Line was in the beginnings
- 27:26Speaker 1: of the show considered practically taboo, and then you get
- 27:32Speaker 1: here in the story and it's like everybody from all
- 27:35Speaker 1: over knows everybody, no matter where they are. It doesn't
- 27:40Speaker 1: really seem like anybody is out of reach or out
- 27:46Speaker 1: of sight. There's just something odd looking back at like
- 27:50Speaker 1: the grand line being so off limits from the perspective
- 27:56Speaker 1: of people who aren't in it, and then now to
- 28:00Speaker 1: how like it's a huge chunk of the world and
- 28:04Speaker 1: for so many people to just be like nobody goes there.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Apparently fucking everybody goes there. What do you mean? But anyway, this, uh,
- 28:15Speaker 1: we have a scene a little bit later where the
- 28:18Speaker 1: chef she is like by herself in I think a
- 28:23Speaker 1: library or something, and she is thinking about Sangy, imagines
- 28:31Speaker 1: him and then thinks to herself as if which was
- 28:35Speaker 1: a funny little bit and I was just like, oh shit,
- 28:40Speaker 1: because her having a crush on him. So you guys,
- 28:47Speaker 1: I know that I know that like cartoons, it's gonna be.
- 28:51Speaker 1: We've got different like language, so to speak, in terms
- 28:56Speaker 1: of the visuals to indicate when somebody is a trek
- 29:00Speaker 1: and when they're not. But the whole way that it's
- 29:06Speaker 1: played with this chef is that she's really unattractive. She's
- 29:10Speaker 1: called homely by one of Sanji's brothers, and like the
- 29:15Speaker 1: only thing different about her as compared to any of
- 29:19Speaker 1: the other girls is the way that she's got freckles
- 29:24Speaker 1: that seems to be it and like she's drawn without
- 29:28Speaker 1: real like kind of lipsticky lips, if that makes sense.
- 29:33Speaker 1: A lot of female characters they're drawn with lips that
- 29:36Speaker 1: are very exaggerated into different color and make it look
- 29:40Speaker 1: like they have makeup on, and this girl doesn't have that.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Plus she's got like the freckles, and it's just one
- 29:48Speaker 1: of those things, like I am somebody who is super freckly,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and I don't think that you can like necessarily see
- 29:53Speaker 1: it too much on camera, But I have a lot
- 29:56Speaker 1: of freckles, and I just grew up with freckles being
- 29:59Speaker 1: the shorthand for somebody being unattractive my whole life, and
- 30:03Speaker 1: it bothered me so much, like it really bummed me out,
- 30:06Speaker 1: And seeing it here is very funny because like she
- 30:12Speaker 1: looks otherwise identical to all the other girls. You know,
- 30:15Speaker 1: we've seen this this artist draw ugly women, but they
- 30:19Speaker 1: didn't do that with her. Sarah Fim says, I think
- 30:22Speaker 1: the homely thing is just them being assholes. Disagree, if
- 30:26Speaker 1: only because her looking in the mirror and then thinking
- 30:29Speaker 1: about Soanjy and saying as if to me is the
- 30:32Speaker 1: story itself, being like she doesn't think that she could
- 30:36Speaker 1: get with him because she's ugly and we're showing her
- 30:40Speaker 1: how ugly she is because she's looking in the mirror
- 30:42Speaker 1: and just like, oh my god, I can't stay to
- 30:44Speaker 1: look at myself. I think it's very much like canon
- 30:47Speaker 1: that she's meant to be unattractive, but you know whatever,
- 30:52Speaker 1: it's just I just want to register how funny it is.
- 30:58Speaker 1: It's a similar thing in some ways, like any particular
- 31:01Speaker 1: woman in this series being meant to be super attractive
- 31:04Speaker 1: when she also looks just like everybody else. And yes,
- 31:07Speaker 1: I'm looking at you, Bo Hancock because you just look
- 31:11Speaker 1: like Robin pretty much like you know. But yeah, so, uh,
- 31:18Speaker 1: Seraphim says, I think that's more a station thing. He's
- 31:21Speaker 1: a prince, she's just a I disagree. She's looking in
- 31:23Speaker 1: the mirror. She's literally looking at her reflections. Seraphim like,
- 31:26Speaker 1: I don't think it could be more clear that it's
- 31:27Speaker 1: about her appearance. That's just that's just how I'm interpreting that.
- 31:32Speaker 1: It feels very much like it is about how she looks.
- 31:35Speaker 1: She is looking at a reflection of herself, like that's
- 31:38Speaker 1: just shorthand, you know, but whatever. So anyway, this uh
- 31:45Speaker 1: for her? His brother Neon Blue, is that his name
- 31:50Speaker 1: Electric Blue comes in, and he says something about how
- 31:57Speaker 1: she has gotten a big head because she's been defended
- 32:03Speaker 1: by Sanji. Maybe she's starting to think a little too
- 32:06Speaker 1: much of herself. And so he cracks his knuckles and
- 32:14Speaker 1: we get like a zoom in on his hands as
- 32:17Speaker 1: he's cracking his knuckles, and then the camera pulls away
- 32:21Speaker 1: and we see Sanji walking down the hall toward that
- 32:26Speaker 1: very room. And I was so ready for this to
- 32:31Speaker 1: be some kind of really awful sexual assault thing. This
- 32:35Speaker 1: show hasn't done that before, but I really feel like
- 32:38Speaker 1: that's sort of the subtext here is probably that she
- 32:42Speaker 1: was not only beaten but sexually assaulted, you know what
- 32:47Speaker 1: I mean. It just has that kind of tone to
- 32:51Speaker 1: it of like he put her in her place. And
- 32:54Speaker 1: I don't think that the show is actually having that
- 32:57Speaker 1: be what happened, but I feel that as part of
- 33:04Speaker 1: the like head cannon, you know what I mean, that
- 33:09Speaker 1: maybe we're not going to go that far because of
- 33:11Speaker 1: this being geared more towards a family friendly audience, But
- 33:17Speaker 1: that feels to me like very much the energy of
- 33:21Speaker 1: the scene, you know, And when he comes in, I
- 33:25Speaker 1: had thought she was going to be dead. To be honest,
- 33:27Speaker 1: I kind of had a moment of just like, oh
- 33:30Speaker 1: my god, did he kill her? And I should have
- 33:31Speaker 1: known that he didn't, but she looks so still when
- 33:35Speaker 1: she's on the floor when Sonji comes in that I
- 33:38Speaker 1: genuinely was like, oh no, And Soanji I have no
- 33:44Speaker 1: idea what he's going to do now, because like he
- 33:50Speaker 1: can try and like nurse her back to health and
- 33:53Speaker 1: protect her, but he is restrained in a very literal
- 33:57Speaker 1: sense from being able to help her in a material way.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I mean, where can he put her that they wouldn't
- 34:09Speaker 1: find her? What can he do that they won't be
- 34:13Speaker 1: able to intercept and stop him from doing? I genuinely
- 34:17Speaker 1: can't imagine how he I don't know. So I appreciate
- 34:26Speaker 1: the position that he is in with wanting to help,
- 34:29Speaker 1: but there's also a part of me that feels like, bro,
- 34:32Speaker 1: maybe you should just leave her alone, because it seems
- 34:36Speaker 1: like the more involved you get, the more they are
- 34:39Speaker 1: going to target her because they know it bothers you,
- 34:43Speaker 1: and you just are giving them a target to zero
- 34:48Speaker 1: in on. You know, I don't believe that he means
- 34:53Speaker 1: to do that at all, but that's just in effect
- 34:56Speaker 1: what is happening by him focusing on her, so anyway,
- 35:02Speaker 1: the uh the there's another scene then after because you
- 35:08Speaker 1: know he's coping with this whole thing, and his other
- 35:13Speaker 1: brother comes in and it's just like, you're the one
- 35:16Speaker 1: who is basically you were the one who brought this
- 35:21Speaker 1: on her, and if you have a problem with what's
- 35:24Speaker 1: happened to her, maybe you should learn to keep your
- 35:26Speaker 1: mouth shut, and then says you should come with me,
- 35:31Speaker 1: and he brings Sanji with him down into the basement,
- 35:36Speaker 1: which Sonji comments on the fact that I've never been
- 35:40Speaker 1: down here before, and he says that we weren't old enough,
- 35:46Speaker 1: like while you were home, we hadn't reached the age
- 35:49Speaker 1: where it was okay for us. But now I'm going
- 35:53Speaker 1: to show you something. It's sort of funny in a way,
- 35:59Speaker 1: how uh, how cavalier he is about showing Sanji this
- 36:08Speaker 1: like family secret. I guess I don't like correct me
- 36:12Speaker 1: if I'm wrong, guys, but it seems like nobody knows
- 36:16Speaker 1: this information that this is secret? Right? Am I wrong
- 36:20Speaker 1: about that? If I'm wrong about it, then it kind
- 36:24Speaker 1: of changes up my feelings on the scene. But if
- 36:30Speaker 1: it is a secret, there's a feeling of maybe you
- 36:34Speaker 1: shouldn't show this to somebody who has said repeatedly how
- 36:39Speaker 1: much he doesn't want to be part of this family
- 36:43Speaker 1: and how much he detests all of you. If you
- 36:46Speaker 1: want this to stay secret, my friend, this is not
- 36:50Speaker 1: the guy to fucking like unload this information onto. But
- 36:54Speaker 1: he does. He tells him everything. And we see that
- 37:00Speaker 1: these soldiers, which like there have been plenty of soldiers
- 37:06Speaker 1: around that we've seen, are just regular people because they
- 37:11Speaker 1: don't look like the guys in these tanks. So I
- 37:14Speaker 1: think that it's like a mix. We've got some people
- 37:18Speaker 1: who are citizens and they're regular people, born in a
- 37:21Speaker 1: normal way, and they are simply being trained, and then
- 37:26Speaker 1: we've got people who are literally like test tube babies
- 37:31Speaker 1: and they are built to be similar to other really
- 37:35Speaker 1: powerful warriors. And it's uh, sort of it's very much
- 37:47Speaker 1: treated like, oh my god, this is so hideous, and
- 37:50Speaker 1: like it is it. It's a sort of a weird
- 37:55Speaker 1: place that I'm in because this family is such garbage
- 37:59Speaker 1: all ready that adding this on top of everything isn't
- 38:04Speaker 1: even making me feel any different about them, you know
- 38:08Speaker 1: what I mean. They're so despicable in their whole attitude
- 38:13Speaker 1: about everything that I am unchanged, utterly in regard to
- 38:20Speaker 1: what I think of them, because they already you know,
- 38:25Speaker 1: them practicing this sort of thing. Yeah, this sucks, but
- 38:29Speaker 1: also like they are treating their own citizens so badly that,
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know, making them human shields, that I just don't
- 38:41Speaker 1: have any change in expression essentially when this is revealed. Honestly,
- 38:48Speaker 1: I think that it's because I'm living in the age
- 38:50Speaker 1: of Marvel, where everybody is trying to generate like superheroes
- 38:57Speaker 1: and super soldiers and whatnot in all properties that this
- 39:02Speaker 1: kind of big reveal is played at this point in
- 39:06Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. This isn't a criticism of the writing
- 39:09Speaker 1: or anything at all. It's just like the nature of
- 39:12Speaker 1: what happens when a certain type of fiction just becomes
- 39:16Speaker 1: really popular and so you get sort of inured to it,
- 39:21Speaker 1: and yeah, so there's just this feeling of like don
- 39:26Speaker 1: dun Dune, and I was just like, yawn, Yeah, so
- 39:31Speaker 1: you guys already suck very much. This does not surprise me,
- 39:35Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, especially considering that they evidently
- 39:39Speaker 1: want to team up with Mama, who's got Caesar Clown
- 39:43Speaker 1: working on another thing for her that's like about manipulating
- 39:48Speaker 1: human bodies and making them more like what she wants
- 39:51Speaker 1: from them. If they're willing to make regular people into
- 39:56Speaker 1: human shields and they are willing to throw in their
- 39:59Speaker 1: lot with Mama, who is as controlling as she is,
- 40:05Speaker 1: all of this is just a piece, you know. But yeah,
- 40:11Speaker 1: so let's jump over quickly to Carrot and Chopper. They
- 40:20Speaker 1: come up with a really fun idea that I liked
- 40:24Speaker 1: a lot because there was this whole thing in the
- 40:27Speaker 1: last episodes of how they're locked in this mirror world
- 40:31Speaker 1: and they're looking around trying to like figure out what
- 40:34Speaker 1: exactly is going on, and there's all of these like
- 40:39Speaker 1: spiraling walkways and other mirrors, and it's Chopper who finally
- 40:46Speaker 1: like puts it together. Oh, I think that all of
- 40:51Speaker 1: these are mirrors in other places that we can like
- 40:56Speaker 1: step out of, or not necessarily step out it, but
- 41:00Speaker 1: at least look out of. And thus, maybe if we
- 41:04Speaker 1: go to the right room where there is a mirror,
- 41:07Speaker 1: and if Sanji is in there, we're going to be
- 41:10Speaker 1: able to like signal him somehow. I don't know if
- 41:14Speaker 1: Sanji would be able to step into the mirror world
- 41:17Speaker 1: with them. It's clear like they're not able to get
- 41:19Speaker 1: out of that world. So if he did step in
- 41:23Speaker 1: with them, I don't know if it would be good
- 41:26Speaker 1: any good, because the only person that could evidently let
- 41:29Speaker 1: them out again would be the witch. And we saw that,
- 41:36Speaker 1: like breaking the mirror doesn't let them out. Breaking the
- 41:38Speaker 1: mirror doesn't hurt them, They're fine. But the mirror itself
- 41:43Speaker 1: isn't the trap they It can be broken and they
- 41:47Speaker 1: still are trapped in there, so it has nothing to
- 41:50Speaker 1: do with that apparently. So the question becomes, what's the
- 41:57Speaker 1: point Even if you can find and you can wave
- 42:01Speaker 1: to him like, hey, we're inside this mirror, if he
- 42:05Speaker 1: can't climb in there with you, then you need to,
- 42:10Speaker 1: like what give him a message that you guys are
- 42:12Speaker 1: looking for him and he knows that you're on your way.
- 42:15Speaker 1: He has to know. And they don't have like pen
- 42:18Speaker 1: and paper. I don't know if they can hear each other.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I am just wondering, like, if they do manage to
- 42:25Speaker 1: find him, what exactly are they gonna do? How are
- 42:29Speaker 1: they going to you know what I'm saying. I just
- 42:31Speaker 1: don't know what to expect in that regard. So, yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I will be curious to see it. But I do
- 42:38Speaker 1: really like the idea of being between places with mirrors
- 42:44Speaker 1: to travel. I've always found this whole concept to be
- 42:46Speaker 1: like really unsettling and always interesting. This is something that's
- 42:51Speaker 1: also in uh Doctor Strange, not Doctor Strange, Oh my god,
- 42:57Speaker 1: Jonathan Strange and mister Noral right is the name of
- 43:01Speaker 1: the book series if you haven't read it or they did,
- 43:08Speaker 1: I think a BBC mini series on it, and it
- 43:13Speaker 1: was really good. I actually covered it with my now
- 43:17Speaker 1: husband and it was one of the better adaptations I've
- 43:22Speaker 1: ever seen, which I think is because they decided to
- 43:24Speaker 1: have it be like a series rather than a movie.
- 43:27Speaker 1: But there's a similar thing in there where eventually somebody
- 43:31Speaker 1: learns how to travel like between mirrors, and it's really
- 43:33Speaker 1: fascinating to watch. So yeah, I just wonder exactly what
- 43:41Speaker 1: the like. I don't blame them for going to look
- 43:44Speaker 1: for him, because what else are you gonna do you're
- 43:45Speaker 1: stuck in here? You know you may as well, But
- 43:48Speaker 1: I don't know what actually this accomplishes. Saraphim said they
- 43:53Speaker 1: would at least know where he is to go get him.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I guess it depends on how good the communication is
- 44:00Speaker 1: on whether they would know where to go get him,
- 44:02Speaker 1: because like you look out a mirror into a room,
- 44:06Speaker 1: and that doesn't necessarily tell you that much. You can
- 44:10Speaker 1: see what room he's in, and maybe if you can
- 44:12Speaker 1: see out the window, you can see if they're close
- 44:16Speaker 1: to a certain landmark or whatever, if he is able
- 44:21Speaker 1: to write down where he is and hold it up
- 44:24Speaker 1: for them to read, or if they are able to
- 44:26Speaker 1: actually talk to each other. I think they must be
- 44:29Speaker 1: able to talk, because they were talking out of the
- 44:33Speaker 1: mirror in the woods with Nami, So I think that's
- 44:37Speaker 1: got to be like possible, right. I don't know if
- 44:41Speaker 1: it's different based on like, well, this is the mirror
- 44:44Speaker 1: that she used to put you in here, and so
- 44:46Speaker 1: you can talk out of that one but not other ones.
- 44:48Speaker 1: But I'm gonna assume it's not that complicated. So probably
- 44:51Speaker 1: they could just talk to him and he could just
- 44:52Speaker 1: tell them where he is, which would be kind of
- 44:56Speaker 1: funny if it turned out that, like communicating him from
- 44:59Speaker 1: the mirror was so much easier that they kind of
- 45:03Speaker 1: didn't want to be let out yet, And what if
- 45:05Speaker 1: the witch was like gonna take them out of there,
- 45:07Speaker 1: and they were like, no, no, no, wait, maybe you
- 45:09Speaker 1: should just leave me, you know what I mean? That
- 45:11Speaker 1: would be sort of amusing, but yeah, so that's what
- 45:16Speaker 1: they're up to. And I just think that this is
- 45:17Speaker 1: a neat concept and I really like there's a whole
- 45:21Speaker 1: thing with Chopper asking Carrot to call him big brother,
- 45:30Speaker 1: and she she changes up what he asks to call him,
- 45:37Speaker 1: like chopper bro something like that. Chow bro, I think,
- 45:41Speaker 1: is what she calls in and it feels like Chopper
- 45:45Speaker 1: does not like that art that nickname. Initially, eventually he
- 45:51Speaker 1: goes with it because she like compliments him while using
- 45:55Speaker 1: that nickname, but uh, and eventually like she keeps using
- 46:01Speaker 1: it and it seems to sort of roll off him
- 46:02Speaker 1: and be fine. But it is sort of funny that
- 46:05Speaker 1: at first when she's like, oh, chow Bro, He's like, what, like,
- 46:09Speaker 1: doesn't really apparently seem to like it, but yeah, you know,
- 46:15Speaker 1: I just think anytime that somebody winds up getting a
- 46:19Speaker 1: nickname from somebody, unless it's like obviously very offensive, but
- 46:24Speaker 1: mostly I always find it kind of charming. I think
- 46:27Speaker 1: it's cute, so I'm for it. And he's like the
- 46:33Speaker 1: idea of the two of them getting a little bit
- 46:35Speaker 1: closer is very cute, and I just like the fact
- 46:40Speaker 1: that they are finding a way to be useful. But
- 46:46Speaker 1: like from within their prison. This is a really tricky
- 46:52Speaker 1: situation that they have found themselves in, and they are
- 46:56Speaker 1: exploring and doing something with it, and that is admirable.
- 47:02Speaker 1: We have a very brief check in with Brooke and Pedro.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Brooke is I think, like pretty much hiding in Pedro's coat,
- 47:17Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken. It's a weird thing. But it
- 47:21Speaker 1: seems like they're just kind of walking around at night,
- 47:25Speaker 1: looking about, and there isn't really much actually happening with
- 47:32Speaker 1: the two of them yet. We're just sort of getting
- 47:36Speaker 1: an update on what it is that they're doing to
- 47:39Speaker 1: remind us that they're there. And I do want to
- 47:42Speaker 1: point out that, like, we haven't gone back to the
- 47:45Speaker 1: group that was left with the Oh my god, what
- 47:51Speaker 1: are they called? The other animal people on the elephant.
- 47:56Speaker 1: I can't remember, Zoe. We haven't checked in with any
- 48:02Speaker 1: of those folks. It's kind of like interesting to me
- 48:07Speaker 1: how the story has gotten a lot more consistent with
- 48:12Speaker 1: splitting our people up quite far from each other. It's
- 48:17Speaker 1: not it used to be We're going to reach a
- 48:20Speaker 1: location and our friends are going to be separated at
- 48:24Speaker 1: that island from each other, and now it's no our
- 48:30Speaker 1: friends are each going to be on different islands, on
- 48:32Speaker 1: different ships, doing completely different things. I don't love this
- 48:41Speaker 1: as much as a trend, and I'm curious how you
- 48:45Speaker 1: all feel about it, because, like, in large part, I
- 48:49Speaker 1: understand it, and there have been times where I'm like, Okay,
- 48:52Speaker 1: you know, like this is interesting, but I just feel
- 48:55Speaker 1: like it feels like we're doing this to cope with
- 49:01Speaker 1: the fact that the straw Hat crew has gotten large
- 49:05Speaker 1: enough that it's become more unwieldy. And to that, I say, well,
- 49:11Speaker 1: you don't need to ask everybody we meet to join
- 49:13Speaker 1: the straw Hats, then oda. You know, we have this
- 49:17Speaker 1: whole thing as well, with fucking Jimbay now wanting to
- 49:20Speaker 1: be one of them. And I'm just like, enough, already,
- 49:24Speaker 1: we have plenty of members. You already have to split
- 49:27Speaker 1: them up to manage their storylines. Let's just leave it.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Let's just say that we have as many as we
- 49:34Speaker 1: need and let them stick together as a team. I
- 49:41Speaker 1: just don't like being away from one group for so
- 49:46Speaker 1: long that we just don't get to see them at all,
- 49:49Speaker 1: you know. I I think that part of it too,
- 49:56Speaker 1: is like when we were in Dress Rosa, it was
- 50:04Speaker 1: let's see loofy Robin, Frankie, Oosop, Zoro was Brooke with them.
- 50:16Speaker 1: He wasn't he was with the ones that went to Zoe, right,
- 50:19Speaker 1: So it feels like basically everybody who was with Lufy
- 50:24Speaker 1: and Dress Rosa got left on Zoe, so that now
- 50:29Speaker 1: we can spend more time with this other group. Of course,
- 50:33Speaker 1: we still have to have Loofy with them. Lufy's present always,
- 50:36Speaker 1: but I just don't really like the energy of there
- 50:44Speaker 1: being a huge chunk of the crew missing. It's one
- 50:48Speaker 1: thing when we're split up on the same island because
- 50:50Speaker 1: the camera goes back and forth between us and we
- 50:53Speaker 1: get to check in with them, But if we're not
- 50:55Speaker 1: doing that, we're just leaving them out of the story
- 50:59Speaker 1: entirely for huge chunks, and I don't like it. I
- 51:03Speaker 1: think it sucks. I miss my other people a lot,
- 51:07Speaker 1: you know, Florian says, I have thoughts about the crew splitting.
- 51:13Speaker 1: We are now with all the straw hats who were
- 51:15Speaker 1: not undressed Rosa for the most part. Okay, Yeah, I
- 51:18Speaker 1: think at the end of it all, you can make
- 51:20Speaker 1: a call if it was worth it. I think there
- 51:23Speaker 1: are pros and cons. Yeah, agree, I mean, granted, it's
- 51:29Speaker 1: just I don't know I I'll be curious to see
- 51:35Speaker 1: exactly how this winds up, for sure, But just like
- 51:38Speaker 1: from where I'm sitting right now, I feel like, again,
- 51:41Speaker 1: we finally got everybody back together. I was really pleased
- 51:46Speaker 1: to have the whole team, and then we were only
- 51:49Speaker 1: together for like a few episodes, like even when they
- 51:51Speaker 1: reached Oh, other members of the party are still separated
- 51:56Speaker 1: from the rest, and then Sanji leaves, so nobody has
- 52:01Speaker 1: like the whole crew hasn't been together in a minute
- 52:04Speaker 1: at this point. And I think that the dynamic between
- 52:10Speaker 1: the characters is what makes things the most interesting, and
- 52:13Speaker 1: once you decide to like fuck with that in favor
- 52:16Speaker 1: of plot, I just really am not as interested. That's
- 52:20Speaker 1: just kind of what it comes down to. And I
- 52:22Speaker 1: know that that's not what interests Oda as much. I
- 52:27Speaker 1: am not in alignment with him in terms of what
- 52:31Speaker 1: I find compelling. I am interested in very different things
- 52:37Speaker 1: in terms of story than he is. So it's something
- 52:40Speaker 1: that I struggle with a lot with this series, where
- 52:42Speaker 1: there's points where I just love what's happening and what
- 52:46Speaker 1: we're doing and it's full of like weird surprises, and
- 52:48Speaker 1: he just decides to do something truly off the wall
- 52:51Speaker 1: and that sustains me, But then there are long portions
- 52:56Speaker 1: where I'm just like, why did you think this was
- 52:59Speaker 1: what was going to be of interest? Dude? What made
- 53:03Speaker 1: you feel like this was the way? Because to me,
- 53:05Speaker 1: this is the least interesting and least compelling angle to
- 53:10Speaker 1: come at this from. And I'm curious if, like, anything
- 53:16Speaker 1: about that approach changes or if it's just sort of
- 53:20Speaker 1: this is how he does it forever, because this is
- 53:25Speaker 1: one of those series that I think I would you know,
- 53:28Speaker 1: I'm not usually much of a fan of like fanfic,
- 53:32Speaker 1: but this is a series where I could see getting
- 53:35Speaker 1: very into fanfic, just because I am unsatisfied a lot
- 53:40Speaker 1: of the time with how much we go into actual
- 53:43Speaker 1: character stories. We go into like people's like history to
- 53:53Speaker 1: figure out what motivates them, but it is sort of
- 53:56Speaker 1: surface level and beyond that we just see the superficial
- 54:01Speaker 1: interactions a lot of the time, And I would be
- 54:04Speaker 1: very into seeing who these people are beyond the most
- 54:12Speaker 1: surface level. We're friends, we have each other's backs, and
- 54:17Speaker 1: we like each other. Yeah, but like what else you know?
- 54:21Speaker 1: Because not all of you like each other. We know
- 54:24Speaker 1: sorrow and Soanji don't like each other, who gets along
- 54:29Speaker 1: with who most and where does that come from beyond
- 54:34Speaker 1: just Loofy and Chopper get along because they both like food.
- 54:40Speaker 1: You know. I just want a little bit more depth,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I think at this point, and in splitting the crew up,
- 54:47Speaker 1: it feels like it's a promise that we're not gonna
- 54:51Speaker 1: get that, and it makes me a little sad. But
- 54:55Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see. I don't know. I always, as
- 54:59Speaker 1: y'all know, get the most irritated when it feels like
- 55:02Speaker 1: there is a lot of potential in something that isn't realized.
- 55:07Speaker 1: And I can have that with this show a lot,
- 55:10Speaker 1: not as badly as some things that I have. In
- 55:13Speaker 1: the end just quit watching because I got too annoyed.
- 55:16Speaker 1: But this show, there are certainly moments that I'm like,
- 55:21Speaker 1: either thinking we're gonna go in a certain direction and
- 55:22Speaker 1: we just don't and we do something very boring, or
- 55:26Speaker 1: we do something that is interesting but we don't go
- 55:30Speaker 1: hard enough into it. And then there are times where
- 55:33Speaker 1: we get something incredible. You know, fucking Senor Pink's whole
- 55:37Speaker 1: thing was the best. It was so great, and the
- 55:41Speaker 1: whole country on the back of an elephant is such
- 55:43Speaker 1: an interesting, weird idea. You know, he can pull things
- 55:47Speaker 1: out at times where I'm just like, where's this been
- 55:49Speaker 1: the whole time? And you have like such an imagination clearly,
- 55:55Speaker 1: so why do you play it so safe so often? Anyway?
- 56:02Speaker 1: So yeah, this is uh, this might take away in
- 56:05Speaker 1: these three episodes. It's like some highs and some lows.
- 56:08Speaker 1: It's mostly kind of mid right now. But I've been
- 56:11Speaker 1: enjoying the previous episodes a lot, so I'm hoping that
- 56:13Speaker 1: will pick up again. All right, everybody, I'm gonna wrap up.
- 56:17Speaker 1: Thank you again for hanging out with me in the
- 56:19Speaker 1: chat and bearing with me when I had to restart
- 56:21Speaker 1: because of some weird issues, And thank you Bernadet for
- 56:25Speaker 1: commissioning this one. Until next time to the Loo, motherfuckers.
- 56:58Speaker 1: That was an unspoiled work podcast
