- 0:04Speaker 1: USA Today Insider Bob and I and got covering the
- 0:06Speaker 1: GM meetings right now, joining us on FT not just
- 0:09Speaker 1: today but more regularly. Bob, we're excited about it. You know,
- 0:12Speaker 1: we love having you on here, so I just wanted
- 0:14Speaker 1: to tell the world you'll see more, Bob. Bob, it's
- 0:17Speaker 1: great to have you. Do you enjoy these appearances? I
- 0:20Speaker 1: hope you do, because you're going to see us more now.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Love hanging up with you guys, love watching you guys.
- 0:25Speaker 2: So yeah, it's a pleasure. Bob.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I'm just happy we got you off the craps table
- 0:30Speaker 3: to get you up here to do this interview. So
- 0:31Speaker 3: thank you for taking a five minute break to come
- 0:34Speaker 3: see us.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I love craps I do. I know, I know. There
- 0:41Speaker 2: you go.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Well, Bob, we're excited. Yeah, we love doing these. So
- 0:44Speaker 1: let's dive right in and let's pick some things out
- 0:47Speaker 1: from your latest notes column. Let's start with the defending
- 0:50Speaker 1: champce Los Angeles Dodgers. The storyline with them is always
- 0:54Speaker 1: spending and they're out spending everyone. But I thought you
- 0:57Speaker 1: took a different turn. That was interesting. News flash, there's
- 1:01Speaker 1: actually a lot of money coming off the books for
- 1:02Speaker 1: this team, right.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they got eighty seven million dollars coming off, you know,
- 1:07Speaker 2: going back to Chris Taylor no longer there, Michael Conporto
- 1:11Speaker 2: will be gone playing Kershall will be gone. So yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 2: any seven million bucks come off the books. They need
- 1:17Speaker 2: to get that bullpen right. Obviously, they're not going to
- 1:19Speaker 2: pitch starters, you know, in relief like it did in
- 1:22Speaker 2: the postseason. You can't do that in the regular season.
- 1:25Speaker 2: But I think they got to go get a big
- 1:27Speaker 2: time closer and kind of in the nonsense that happened
- 1:29Speaker 2: last year. They got away with it, you know, last year.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I don't think they get away with it this year.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Edwin Diz Bob Dz to the Dodgers. Are we talking
- 1:39Speaker 3: big like that or are we talking smaller? Hopefully Tanner
- 1:44Speaker 3: Scott who go has a new butt coming back and
- 1:46Speaker 3: some of these other guys trying in another year like
- 1:48Speaker 3: is there? Are we talking go out and sign a
- 1:50Speaker 3: big name again.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I think that you'll get a big name. I think
- 1:54Speaker 2: they'll be in the DS thing. You know, he can
- 1:56Speaker 2: do it. I don't know if they bringing back Kelly Janssen.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I think a cool story uh if he did come back. Uh,
- 2:03Speaker 2: but they'd love to get some stud Uh tell you what,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and if listen for class A gambling thing and they
- 2:10Speaker 2: would be all in on him, getting him to LA,
- 2:13Speaker 2: training for him. So that type of guy, and they
- 2:15Speaker 2: he had a guy that they don't worry about. I
- 2:17Speaker 2: think Dave Roberts has loses his mind having to pick
- 2:20Speaker 2: and choose night after night.
- 2:22Speaker 3: What about p Fairbanks he just got he just got
- 2:25Speaker 3: DFA or non tender or whatever they did however you
- 2:28Speaker 3: want to he.
- 2:29Speaker 4: I mean, he's pretty good.
- 2:30Speaker 3: He he likes pitching in warm weather because he gets
- 2:33Speaker 3: the finger thing when it's too cold.
- 2:34Speaker 4: And La is about the same every day. LA and
- 2:37Speaker 4: San Diego, San Francisco.
- 2:38Speaker 3: You know it's well, San Francisco not so much, but
- 2:41Speaker 3: the other two are pretty good in Arizona's insight.
- 2:42Speaker 4: That's a good division.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good call. I mean, Freeman loves his
- 2:47Speaker 2: Tampa guys, and uh, I was in a relationship there
- 2:50Speaker 2: and they got you know, Blake Snell from there, and
- 2:52Speaker 2: they got donand vast Now from there. Why not? So
- 2:55Speaker 2: that's a good call.
- 2:57Speaker 5: The trade, the trade part of it, because you just
- 2:59Speaker 5: said they got Tyler Glass now and everybody thinks all
- 3:02Speaker 5: they signed him as a free agent, they traded for
- 3:03Speaker 5: him and then they extended him. Are there any candidates
- 3:06Speaker 5: for the Dodgers out there where it's like a team
- 3:08Speaker 5: that needs maybe some money coming off their books, and
- 3:12Speaker 5: the Dodgers are like, hey, we're willing to take that
- 3:14Speaker 5: because you know, we see the value in it.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you started off, there's that one reliever out there,
- 3:20Speaker 2: But uh, I think they'll be in on everybody. I
- 3:23Speaker 2: don't you know, I don't see Kyle Tucker going there.
- 3:25Speaker 2: He's from you know, Tampa area. I think he still
- 3:28Speaker 2: stays you don't like to stay back east, but I
- 3:31Speaker 2: think they'll make him. Honest. Yeah, they were never in on. Yeah,
- 3:34Speaker 2: they're never going a focal owner one, so doo they
- 3:37Speaker 2: but they wanted to make sure the Yankees and Mets
- 3:39Speaker 2: had a fair pay, fair price or overpay to get
- 3:42Speaker 2: the guy. I think the same thing with the you know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: with him as well, where you'll they'll say, you know what,
- 3:49Speaker 2: we need an outfielder. We got a hole here, but
- 3:52Speaker 2: we don't need to spend three hundred and fifty four
- 3:54Speaker 2: million from Kyle Tacker.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Okay, Well, then my next question that leads you into
- 3:59Speaker 3: my next question. You kind of brought up the Mets
- 4:00Speaker 3: and then your call him, you said the Mets are
- 4:02Speaker 3: one of the biggest disappointments and they're gonna have to
- 4:04Speaker 3: spend again. But then you also mentioned the Orioles who
- 4:07Speaker 3: did the bare minimum and free agency, right, So who's
- 4:10Speaker 3: under more pressure the Mets to make the playoffs with
- 4:13Speaker 3: the huge payroll or michae Elias to get it right
- 4:17Speaker 3: with the new manager and everything else they have going
- 4:19Speaker 3: on there.
- 4:20Speaker 4: And also the window for the.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Orioles kind of starting to shrink a little bit as
- 4:24Speaker 3: these guys keep adding ears.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Well, I think Elias is under more pressure just because
- 4:29Speaker 2: I think his job is more on the line where
- 4:31Speaker 2: I don't think, you know, David Stearns is going anywhere.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But no, it's embarrassing to have that kind of payroll
- 4:35Speaker 2: and not make the playoffs or even the Mets. The Orioles.
- 4:38Speaker 2: You know, you're right, a Jay. I mean, you got
- 4:40Speaker 2: to take advantage of those young guys. You're going to
- 4:42Speaker 2: have them step up. So you know, they got to
- 4:44Speaker 2: make a big move. They lost Corbyn Burns, they got
- 4:47Speaker 2: to replace him with his star so I think that
- 4:50Speaker 2: they got to go get one of the top pitchers,
- 4:53Speaker 2: and hey, you know, the guy you know, new ownership,
- 4:54Speaker 2: you gotta spend some money. He hasn't spending big money yet.
- 4:58Speaker 4: All right.
- 4:59Speaker 5: You talk about in your in your article, you talked
- 5:01Speaker 5: about the lockout and how teams might be stashing money
- 5:04Speaker 5: away for the lockout. You got a full season here.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Are there any teams that are gonna say, you know what,
- 5:10Speaker 5: if there is a lockout, we're gonna kind of be
- 5:14Speaker 5: behind the eight ball a little bit because our young
- 5:16Speaker 5: players are gonna get older. Are there any teams that
- 5:19Speaker 5: are gonna say, screw the lockout, We're pushing all in
- 5:22Speaker 5: for this next season because there could be a lockout
- 5:24Speaker 5: and not just say ah, we're pulling back because we're
- 5:27Speaker 5: fearful of the lockout.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah. I think they're all fearful. But I haven't heard
- 5:32Speaker 2: any GM saying, hey, I got orders for my owner
- 5:35Speaker 2: to say we're gonna scale back here. I think what's
- 5:38Speaker 2: gonna be interesting in these free agent contracts is how
- 5:42Speaker 2: they're structured. I think we're gonna see more contracts frontloaded. Hey,
- 5:46Speaker 2: if there's only a half a season in twenty twenty
- 5:48Speaker 2: seven or what have you make, you make that more
- 5:51Speaker 2: money lost. The Diamondbacks can't kicking themselves. They backloaded massive
- 5:56Speaker 2: bottom leaders contract so during the COVID season it only
- 5:59Speaker 2: cost you know, bum under a couple million dollars and
- 6:02Speaker 2: he still got all the money in the back end.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I think we'll see more frontload of contracts because of
- 6:07Speaker 2: the potential lockout.
- 6:10Speaker 1: This episode of FT is brought to you by Square.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Your favorite neighborhood spots run on Square. Give me an
- 6:16Speaker 1: example in Pennsylvaniacrats.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Right down the street from my house, the tap House.
- 6:21Speaker 5: Not only is it an awesome place to hang out,
- 6:24Speaker 5: get your beers, get your drinks, whatever it is, but
- 6:27Speaker 5: you know what, the company has the simplicity of Square,
- 6:31Speaker 5: and they give back to the community with ten percent
- 6:33Speaker 5: of all the proceeds that they bring in going back
- 6:36Speaker 5: to community projects.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I love it. Sports and sports bars are so good
- 6:39Speaker 1: at bringing together local communities. And you can actually take
- 6:42Speaker 1: this ad as an excuse to go support your local
- 6:45Speaker 1: spot and have yourself a day or weekend in the neighborhood.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Square is a proud partner of more than four million
- 6:51Speaker 1: neighborhood businesses around the world. These businesses are what make
- 6:54Speaker 1: the neighborhood the neighborhood. So visit Square dot com slash
- 6:58Speaker 1: go slash foul to learn more. But before you do,
- 7:01Speaker 1: go support your favorite neighborhood spot. You'll be happy you did.
- 7:04Speaker 4: Square.
- 7:05Speaker 1: See you in the neighborhood again. That's Square dot Com.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Slash go slash foul to learn more. Bob, I want
- 7:12Speaker 1: to get to the trademarket. Let's start here. You put
- 7:16Speaker 1: Schooble in skins, know and no for getting traded skins.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I get it. You don't think Trek Scoogle gets traded
- 7:22Speaker 1: this offseason.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I don't. I mean, you know, you push it to
- 7:27Speaker 2: a limit there for the in the playoffs. I think
- 7:29Speaker 2: the Tiger fans are going nuts. They're well below the
- 7:32Speaker 2: luxury tacks, so you're not gonna get fair value. I mean,
- 7:35Speaker 2: what are you going to get for Cherry Scooble, You know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: nothing compared to what he's worth now July. You know
- 7:41Speaker 2: they can listen say what you know what we got
- 7:43Speaker 2: to move them. We'll still get a lot back in return.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I just think that the fan pushback would be so intense.
- 7:52Speaker 2: You just can't trade this guy. Just too valuable. Mat Me,
- 7:54Speaker 2: it's the number one guy out there.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Counterpoint, what if they're good next year, which they should
- 8:01Speaker 1: be I mean, if you're a contending team, how can
- 8:03Speaker 1: you trade one of the best starters in this sport?
- 8:07Speaker 2: You can't. Yeah, I just think ride with it. You know,
- 8:09Speaker 2: when it comes to worse, you get a uh, you know,
- 8:11Speaker 2: a draft pick and return. But I think you gotta
- 8:14Speaker 2: you'll go with it for him, and uh you see
- 8:17Speaker 2: what the price is is someone gonna pay four hundred
- 8:19Speaker 2: million and then it's up to you whether you want
- 8:21Speaker 2: to match or not. I don't think he's gonna take
- 8:23Speaker 2: a hometown discount. I think you like the stay needs right,
- 8:26Speaker 2: but he's not gonna take less money to stand needs right.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Bob, Why can't they sign him?
- 8:32Speaker 3: Do we need do we need to raise mister Illich
- 8:34Speaker 3: back up and get him to sign this guy? This
- 8:36Speaker 3: guy needs to stay a Tiger. They have the money.
- 8:38Speaker 3: You mentioned the that they're under the luxury tax. I mean,
- 8:41Speaker 3: I know Glabor Torres is a free agent, but they
- 8:43Speaker 3: have some young guys that are on their way, and
- 8:44Speaker 3: they're on their way fast. Why can't they just I
- 8:47Speaker 3: know Boris doesn't do it, but I'm talking about after
- 8:49Speaker 3: the season. Wouldn't they You think they'd be the favorite
- 8:52Speaker 3: to sign him back? And why not try to get
- 8:54Speaker 3: something done now to give your fans hope.
- 8:58Speaker 2: They shit, I don't know what to take now, take
- 9:00Speaker 2: over four hundred million to do it, Lisa nine are
- 9:03Speaker 2: young to do it now and probably take ten years
- 9:06Speaker 2: at least four or fifty million. I don't see the
- 9:08Speaker 2: Tigers doing that. But yeah, I mean agree aging. If
- 9:11Speaker 2: you know mister Eliz was still alive, he would get
- 9:14Speaker 2: it done. He would do whatever it takes. But you
- 9:17Speaker 2: know the rest of the family with mster real edge
- 9:20Speaker 2: isn't built the same way they saw have been on
- 9:23Speaker 2: the luxury tacks or when Mike Elitch was alive. You
- 9:26Speaker 2: know he was spending as much money as a Steinberg
- 9:28Speaker 2: family and everybody else.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Hey, Bob, you ruffled some feathers in San Diego when
- 9:34Speaker 1: you threw out the name Fernando Tatist Junior for the
- 9:38Speaker 1: Padres and the trade block. Can you explain what you
- 9:41Speaker 1: wrote about.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Well, they got so many backloaded contracts where you know
- 9:46Speaker 2: they've lost money the last few years. When you talk
- 9:49Speaker 2: to gms around the land, they say these guys are
- 9:52Speaker 2: in big time trouble. You know they're losing money even
- 9:55Speaker 2: though they're back in the place. So you can't trade
- 9:58Speaker 2: any Machado. You can't raid Xander Bogarts. Tatisa's contract as
- 10:03Speaker 2: big as it is, it's actually movable. I don't think
- 10:06Speaker 2: the trail of this winner, but I think at some
- 10:08Speaker 2: point you talk at GMS, at some point you're gonna
- 10:11Speaker 2: have to move them. You're gonna have to get rid
- 10:13Speaker 2: of one of these big contracts. You know, you're not
- 10:15Speaker 2: moving darbish. You're not moving Musgrove or Machado or Bogarts.
- 10:19Speaker 2: He's a guy that's actually still has value even with
- 10:23Speaker 2: that big contract.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Okay, interesting, that's the name we haven't heard until until now.
- 10:28Speaker 4: So you know, everyone's talking Bragman, everyone's talking Tucker, everyone's
- 10:33Speaker 4: talking but shet as free agents.
- 10:35Speaker 3: But the guy that I'm interested in is ped Alonzo.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Ped Alonso went through hell last year. Right to go
- 10:38Speaker 3: back to a team you should have It shouldn't even
- 10:40Speaker 3: have been close. Is he gonna end up back in
- 10:43Speaker 3: New York again? And on a short term deal? Why
- 10:45Speaker 3: will no team go out on a limbit sign pee
- 10:47Speaker 3: Alonso to a long term deal? All this guy does
- 10:49Speaker 3: is play one hundred and fifty plus games every year.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Hit you forty homers driving a hundred bob like this
- 10:55Speaker 3: is the guy. You would think he doesn't get in trouble.
- 10:57Speaker 3: You would think this would be the guy that you
- 10:59Speaker 3: just say, hey, we'll give you a five year twenty
- 11:01Speaker 3: million or what I mean, just random numbers. But and
- 11:03Speaker 3: go play first base for the next five years.
- 11:05Speaker 4: And hit US two hundred homers.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You would think so. But someone tells you that David
- 11:10Speaker 2: Stearns just doesn't want him back. I mean his last
- 11:12Speaker 2: press coverage into the season kept talking about runby bench
- 11:15Speaker 2: and run Pa bench a million different times. And obviously,
- 11:19Speaker 2: you know best at the best defensive first baseman I
- 11:22Speaker 2: used to don't. I think they would rather plug in
- 11:23Speaker 2: the holes different ways. And I think Stearns has got
- 11:26Speaker 2: to talk to the owner, you know, Cohen, and say,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you know what, let's get to use the money. We
- 11:32Speaker 2: don't have to have he a Lonzo back. If they
- 11:34Speaker 2: want him back, they would have made him go through
- 11:36Speaker 2: all the hoops he did last year. I think I
- 11:39Speaker 2: think he walks. I think they'd raight go somewhere else.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I think Alonso would be a great fit in Boston.
- 11:46Speaker 5: All right, Well, what about Kyle Schwarmer, Because Kyle Schwarmer
- 11:48Speaker 5: was a great fit when he was in Boston. Is
- 11:51Speaker 5: there any way the Phillies let him go.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I don't see it. I don't you ever talked to
- 11:57Speaker 2: Phillies just say forget what he does. You know on
- 12:00Speaker 2: the field, but off the field he just means everything.
- 12:03Speaker 2: I think he's the one most indispensable player in the
- 12:06Speaker 2: will clubhouse. He's the clubhouse leader. Everything goes through him,
- 12:10Speaker 2: that run things past him. I mean, you know, Bryce
- 12:13Speaker 2: Harper is still a guy that I think Dave Debowski
- 12:15Speaker 2: runs straight through with free agency. What do you think
- 12:18Speaker 2: about this guy? But schwarbur is right there too. I
- 12:21Speaker 2: just can't see no matter what kind of money he's
- 12:24Speaker 2: going to get offered, that they'll let him want. I
- 12:26Speaker 2: think just too valuable.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Is it a case where he takes somebody else's offer
- 12:32Speaker 5: and takes it back to the Phillies and the Phillies
- 12:34Speaker 5: match it or exceed it, because that could get pricey
- 12:37Speaker 5: for a d H with a team who has a
- 12:39Speaker 5: lot of guys who are getting up there in age
- 12:42Speaker 5: on extended contracts.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they do do that. Remember the Yankees
- 12:48Speaker 2: Is used that with Starnberg, and they would let those guys,
- 12:50Speaker 2: they would try to lock them up, they let them
- 12:52Speaker 2: hit free agency say Okay, what if you see out there,
- 12:54Speaker 2: let us know it won't match it, or go above it.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I think the same thing here, tell schwarb or go
- 13:00Speaker 2: ahead and see what you get out there. I know
- 13:03Speaker 2: they tried to sign him to extension last spring weren't
- 13:06Speaker 2: even close, so I think they say, Okay, whatever you
- 13:09Speaker 2: think your value is, go find out and come back
- 13:12Speaker 2: to us. And I think he loves Philadelphia too. I
- 13:15Speaker 2: just case a perfect fit where he ends up filling
- 13:18Speaker 2: for the rest of his career.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Bob. But everyone's saying Cincinnati because he's from Ohio. Come on,
- 13:23Speaker 4: I mean, come on, Bob, we gotta.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Keep up here, Bob. Everyone's saying Cincinnative though they'll never
- 13:27Speaker 3: pay him, but they want him to go there so badly. Anyways,
- 13:31Speaker 3: earlier before you came out, we were talking about the
- 13:33Speaker 3: Rookie of the Year. Okay, and Drake Baldwin won and
- 13:35Speaker 3: the Nashley Kurtz is no brainer. Drake Baldwin won, but
- 13:39Speaker 3: they have Sean Murphy and then there's Drake Baldwin. If
- 13:41Speaker 3: you were the GMF, you're Alex and Toopolos of the Braves.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Do you try to trade one of those guys? Probably
- 13:46Speaker 3: Murphy because he makes more money and if you don't.
- 13:49Speaker 3: We were kind of going back and forth. Did they
- 13:51Speaker 3: split time like eighty one eighty one and mixing some
- 13:54Speaker 3: DH time?
- 13:55Speaker 4: Because if you do it that way, no one's gonna
- 13:56Speaker 4: really be happy. You see what I'm saying. So what
- 13:59Speaker 4: do you think the Braves will do? What they're catching them?
- 14:02Speaker 2: I think it makes more sense to trade Murphy. You're
- 14:05Speaker 2: not going to trade Drake. Baldwin just means too much
- 14:07Speaker 2: that franchise and h yeah, you can have Murphy, you know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: being more DH. But I agree with you is that
- 14:13Speaker 2: they need to develop this guy. I mean, this guy
- 14:15Speaker 2: is unbelievable talent, and I you know, I think it's cool.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I mean a you know, you guys are both catchers,
- 14:21Speaker 2: but the fact yet but you know, we haven't had
- 14:23Speaker 2: a black catcher twenty five years, but this guy to
- 14:26Speaker 2: do this, I think it's great for the sport, great
- 14:29Speaker 2: for Atlanta, and uh, I can see Murphy on the
- 14:33Speaker 2: trade block. Uh, you know, if they want to go
- 14:35Speaker 2: that route. But Baldwin's a guy for the future. And
- 14:39Speaker 2: I think even both catchers stay, it's going to be
- 14:42Speaker 2: Baldwin that gets more of the playing time. Than Murphy, Bob.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I want to take us to something really relevant to
- 14:50Speaker 1: where you are right now. Fran Rabaldez made the trip
- 14:54Speaker 1: to the GM meetings and he's going to meet with teams.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I think it's pretty obvious why that is the case.
- 15:00Speaker 1: There could be some questions about his character, and it
- 15:03Speaker 1: really is specifically linked to an incident a couple of
- 15:07Speaker 1: months ago that I believe initially was denied. So what
- 15:10Speaker 1: do you know? Have you seen him, have you walked
- 15:12Speaker 1: by him? And what do you know about the conversations
- 15:15Speaker 1: that might go on between Fromber and teams. I mean,
- 15:18Speaker 1: that situation went hyper viral. Our guys were all over that,
- 15:22Speaker 1: but they didn't really address it. I mean they definitely
- 15:25Speaker 1: didn't admit it.
- 15:28Speaker 2: No, I never admitted it. I think it's a smart
- 15:30Speaker 2: move on the agent's part to have and meet with teams.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I know, the guys who have had kind of character
- 15:35Speaker 2: issues the issue the agents have done that. I think
- 15:37Speaker 2: he's very smart in this thing. What happened there? What
- 15:41Speaker 2: kind of guy are you? You don't have to admit a publicly,
- 15:44Speaker 2: but why did you do that? Why did you turn
- 15:46Speaker 2: your back when you're catch? You got to hit like
- 15:49Speaker 2: that and I think it rubbed a lot of you know,
- 15:51Speaker 2: teams wrong way, and I think an eighteen that would
- 15:54Speaker 2: sign him has got to find out why did that happen?
- 15:57Speaker 2: Is it going to happen again? You know they want
- 16:00Speaker 2: to know about the character. So I remember going back
- 16:03Speaker 2: to Carl Ever days and that type of things. Guy's
- 16:06Speaker 2: a question of character. You want to get in fun
- 16:08Speaker 2: of GMS to say, hey, here's my guy. You know
- 16:11Speaker 2: you could ask me anything you want. So I think
- 16:15Speaker 2: no team in baseball would touch Framber Bell Daz without
- 16:19Speaker 2: addressing what happened that night.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Hey, take it easy on Carl Everett, Okay, just because
- 16:24Speaker 3: he didn't believe in dinosaurs or astronauts or hold up
- 16:27Speaker 3: a bunch of different things. Bob, take care of my
- 16:30Speaker 3: teammate on the two thousand and five World Series. I
- 16:32Speaker 3: do with fight for you. I'll tell you that.
- 16:34Speaker 4: So take it easy on Carl. You know he had
- 16:36Speaker 4: a bad reputation, but that dude will fight for you.
- 16:38Speaker 4: I'll tell you that.
- 16:38Speaker 3: If you're on the team now, Bob, I want to
- 16:42Speaker 3: know you have roots of Minnesota. That's where I first
- 16:44Speaker 3: got to know you, was up in Minneapolis. What the
- 16:46Speaker 3: heck's going on?
- 16:47Speaker 4: With the Twins.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Are they gonna trade Joe Ryan? Are they gonna sell
- 16:50Speaker 3: the team? Are they gonna try and move Pablo Lopez?
- 16:53Speaker 3: Like Twins fans all the time, and people mostly know
- 16:55Speaker 3: him from the White Sox. But I still have friends
- 16:57Speaker 3: of Minnesota and they're like, what is going on with Twins?
- 17:00Speaker 3: So help me out, Bob, what is going on with
- 17:02Speaker 3: the Twins.
- 17:04Speaker 2: I don't think even their front office knows what's going
- 17:06Speaker 2: to happen. They still don't have a budget. What's going
- 17:09Speaker 2: to happen next year? Yeah, I mean they got the
- 17:11Speaker 2: new ownership in there and say, Okay, we're gonna cut
- 17:13Speaker 2: down debt, but hey, forget about the debt. We're gonna
- 17:15Speaker 2: do for us right now. I think they have to
- 17:18Speaker 2: spend money if you're going to sell tickets. I think
- 17:21Speaker 2: people are so disgusted there that the all that family
- 17:24Speaker 2: is still involved, that you know it's not going to
- 17:27Speaker 2: get people go back in the stadium. I mean, I
- 17:30Speaker 2: think Minnesota target Field is you know, right there behind
- 17:33Speaker 2: you know PNC in Pittsburgh as far as the most
- 17:37Speaker 2: beautiful ballpark, So I think they got to spend I
- 17:40Speaker 2: think people are so discussed there that they haven't tried
- 17:44Speaker 2: to improve that team. So when that release came out, like, oh,
- 17:47Speaker 2: good news, we're keeping the team, we have more money
- 17:49Speaker 2: coming in, and the fans say, oh, man, we're talking
- 17:51Speaker 2: about good news. That's portable news.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 1: And also I flat out do not believe them, just
- 17:57Speaker 1: like most fans don't believe them. They're still trying to
- 18:00Speaker 1: sell the team. They're just going to wait until after
- 18:02Speaker 1: the CBA and try and get a little more money.
- 18:05Speaker 1: So this will be the ultimate test. If they have
- 18:07Speaker 1: more money, they're going to spend a little bit to
- 18:09Speaker 1: try and replenish what they shut away. We shall see, Bob.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Great catching up with you. We're excited to have you
- 18:15Speaker 1: on more frequently. So we'll talk to you again soon
- 18:17Speaker 1: and have fun out there and do well tonight. Uh,
- 18:20Speaker 1: not just coverage wise, but crafts wise, exactly.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Hit those dice, hey, Bob, Well, well before you go,
- 18:28Speaker 3: Bob real quick. So we have a person on the
- 18:30Speaker 3: show that bets that don't pass line. You like fun, Bob,
- 18:34Speaker 3: So I know you are not betting that don't pass line.
- 18:37Speaker 4: You are you want? You're a man of the people.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I hate those people I hate.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Yes, thank you, Thank you, everybody does. Thank you.
- 18:46Speaker 2: It just drives me nuts. You have to die. You
- 18:49Speaker 2: look at the guy, you look at the eye. Those
- 18:53Speaker 2: are the worst is That's the thing about crafts is
- 18:56Speaker 2: everybody's room for the same thing. That's what makes it fun,
- 18:58Speaker 2: a lot more fun.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Though, unless you know Mark and he's not he's rooting
- 19:02Speaker 3: against you. I always remember that, Bob when you're there.
- 19:04Speaker 1: He loves the villain role.
- 19:05Speaker 4: Yeah, loves the villain.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Roll well, Bob, Thank you, enjoy it out there. We'll
- 19:09Speaker 1: talk to you soon.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Thank you, guys.

- 20:14Speaker 1: We've got Craig Breslow quotes from the GM meetings. I'll
- 20:18Speaker 1: let you guys decide which category you'd like to jump
- 20:20Speaker 1: into first, because I have quotes good work by many
- 20:23Speaker 1: of the reporters out there, including Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Would you like to talk about Trevor's story, the pitching,
- 20:28Speaker 1: the lineup or Alex Bragman And then I'll cue up
- 20:31Speaker 1: a quote.
- 20:31Speaker 4: What do you got to ching pitching? Because they need
- 20:33Speaker 4: pitching pitching?
- 20:34Speaker 1: Okay? He said. The team will not pursue back of
- 20:36Speaker 1: the rotation options, while hinting without explicitly saying, you might
- 20:40Speaker 1: prefer acquiring a starter in free agency over trade, he
- 20:44Speaker 1: said via The Athletic because of the depth that we've
- 20:46Speaker 1: built up over the last couple of years. We feel
- 20:48Speaker 1: pretty good about overall starting pitching and number three ish
- 20:53Speaker 1: through ten ish on the depth chart. That's not to
- 20:55Speaker 1: take away from guys who are certainly capable of doing more,
- 20:58Speaker 1: but I don't think we're going to spend a ton
- 21:00Speaker 1: of time trying to add a number four or five starter.
- 21:02Speaker 1: If we're going to make a starting pitching edition, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: think it should be somebody who can pitch at the
- 21:05Speaker 1: front of a rotation and start a playoff game for us.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I thought he worded that very well, because you have
- 21:09Speaker 1: to say, hey, I'm looking for a top end starter,
- 21:12Speaker 1: no offense to three through ten. You can elevate, but
- 21:15Speaker 1: I'm also still going to look for somebody that can
- 21:17Speaker 1: be that guy. I actually thought that was worded correctly.
- 21:20Speaker 4: It was, but that means he also said they're going
- 21:22Speaker 4: to have to spend.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and they've done it. I mean they traded for Garrett.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Crochet traded for Garrett.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Right, they're in on everyone. But wait, what happened when
- 21:33Speaker 1: they got Kyrot? Crochet made the damn playoffs this year?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Crochet was a top three starter in the ALE.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Yeah, so who they going to go get in free agency?
- 21:41Speaker 4: Who's the best pitcher out.
- 21:42Speaker 1: There, is Framber the best.
- 21:48Speaker 4: One, He's one of them. Dylan Ce's you.
- 21:55Speaker 5: He's the best with the highest highest ceiling. I mean
- 21:58Speaker 5: if the guys Obviously people argue like Michael King, Dylan
- 22:01Speaker 5: Cease has started playoff games all that stuff. I mean,
- 22:05Speaker 5: Framervadas has won. Did he win two World Series or
- 22:09Speaker 5: just one? But I mean, like some of his some
- 22:12Speaker 5: of his stats, some of Framber's stats. You know, he's
- 22:15Speaker 5: he's right up there with with Zach Wheeler and quality
- 22:18Speaker 5: starts with you know, over the last decade. I mean,
- 22:22Speaker 5: this guy's probably the best. I have a hard time believing, though,
- 22:27Speaker 5: after a team goes and gets Crochet in a trade,
- 22:30Speaker 5: that they wouldn't be like that kind of worked out
- 22:33Speaker 5: for us. We got the guy for one hundred and
- 22:35Speaker 5: seventy million after we traded for him, when we extended him.
- 22:39Speaker 5: I have a hard time believing they wouldn't they wouldn't
- 22:43Speaker 5: touch the trade market. And the other part that he said,
- 22:46Speaker 5: he was like, yeah, you know, we've built up We've
- 22:48Speaker 5: built up a nice group of young He didn't build
- 22:52Speaker 5: nothing up. That was the other regime. He should have said.
- 22:55Speaker 5: We inherited a lot of nice depth in our organization.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Right, that is very true. As far as the framber
- 23:02Speaker 1: fit now framber in Boston. Now, I think he needs
- 23:07Speaker 1: to be in a place with less heat. And I'm
- 23:12Speaker 1: not talking about the weather, fan media, et cetera. Knowing
- 23:18Speaker 1: the personality pretty well.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I just we'll too. I mean, because their big thing
- 23:22Speaker 4: is they got to find Starters's gone.
- 23:27Speaker 1: They have starters, They have starters, but they need He
- 23:29Speaker 1: wants one more big boy. That's all. He wants one
- 23:31Speaker 1: more big boy. Right, we'll get him because they're gonna
- 23:36Speaker 1: have I'm not looking at a depth chart, but Crochet,
- 23:39Speaker 1: they're going to have Bao, They're gonna have totally, They're
- 23:44Speaker 1: gonna have early Early, and a number of others. But
- 23:50Speaker 1: and totally Early.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Might take Dobbins is out for the year.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hurt.
- 24:00Speaker 4: But Chris Sale, Oh wait, no Valdi? Maybe they signed
- 24:06Speaker 4: a Valdi They worked out there once.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Is he a free agent?
- 24:12Speaker 4: I thought he was? No, maybe not, you know he's not.
- 24:16Speaker 4: He signed, and I.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Think they I think I think there are teams that
- 24:21Speaker 1: really want to get Japanese talent in their organization and
- 24:25Speaker 1: open up that pipeline because it has been so heavily
- 24:27Speaker 1: dominated by the Dodgers right now. I think Michael King's
- 24:31Speaker 1: an option ceases an option. I think there's a chance
- 24:34Speaker 1: they bring back Giolito. I think Zach Gallen would pitch
- 24:37Speaker 1: well there. I think Zach Gallen is the opposite. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: think he needs to be in a big market. He
- 24:41Speaker 1: he looks like New York starts. So put him in Boston.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Merrill Kelly, I think could be a fit.
- 24:49Speaker 4: There's not ones or two's he said he wants to one. Well,
- 24:53Speaker 4: Kelly did great.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Absolutely deserves a two year deal. Yeah, he's he's more
- 25:00Speaker 5: of a three or four. Like if you're going into
- 25:02Speaker 5: that in the postseason. I have a hard time believing,
- 25:05Speaker 5: Like they see what starting pitching value is. Hopefully they
- 25:09Speaker 5: use some of that three hundred and twenty six million
- 25:11Speaker 5: they got off the books for getting rid of devors
- 25:13Speaker 5: because the other part they need to clean up their defense.
- 25:17Speaker 5: And I know people will say, well, if this person's
- 25:19Speaker 5: healthy and then the whole year of this, like they
- 25:22Speaker 5: need to clean their defense up. If you're a pitcher
- 25:24Speaker 5: and you're going somewhere, you're gonna have to pay somebody
- 25:27Speaker 5: because you have to get a ton of strikeouts because
- 25:29Speaker 5: there is not a lot of pitchers who are like,
- 25:32Speaker 5: oh yeah, I'm fine without my defense behind me, Like
- 25:36Speaker 5: they need to clean up some of that defensive issues too.
- 25:40Speaker 3: That leads to why his comments about Bregman were so interesting,
- 25:42Speaker 3: because Bregman's a solid defender at third base, cleans up
- 25:45Speaker 3: a lot of messes. And he's like, well, we know
- 25:47Speaker 3: what he did, but I'm not going to talk about it.
- 25:50Speaker 3: We also know what he could do. That's just that
- 25:52Speaker 3: it's so GM speaker, Bragman should be back.
- 25:56Speaker 4: You look great.
- 25:57Speaker 3: And then when they say add power to the lineup,
- 26:00Speaker 3: a full year room and Anthony will bring more power.
- 26:02Speaker 4: You know, is Tristan Costs back?
- 26:03Speaker 3: Is he is he back with the Red Sox again
- 26:05Speaker 3: to try to, you know, do crazy stuff in the
- 26:07Speaker 3: outfield with no shoes on and a modon in the
- 26:10Speaker 3: middle of the summer when he's hurt.
- 26:11Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I mean, Trevor's story had a nice bounty this year.
- 26:15Speaker 4: But if you but if you lose Bragman, that's that's
- 26:17Speaker 4: that's thump and leadership and defense. That's why he fits
- 26:21Speaker 4: so perfect in Boston.
- 26:22Speaker 1: He's number one priority.
- 26:23Speaker 4: He has to be.
- 26:24Speaker 1: But you just can't say we desperately need him back.
- 26:26Speaker 1: It's just not how the game works, which is fine.
- 26:28Speaker 4: He can't say that. Fans will probably respect you.
- 26:30Speaker 5: Yeah, but that is their top is not gonna say that.
- 26:34Speaker 1: One other name, by the way, pitching wise, that we
- 26:37Speaker 1: I think forgot to mention who I think could pitch
- 26:39Speaker 1: well there, Ranger Suarez. Yeah, he doesn't like media, doesn't
- 26:42Speaker 1: give a crap like, he won't even pay attention. He'll
- 26:44Speaker 1: just tell everyone now I don't want to talk, and
- 26:45Speaker 1: he'll just pitch well. Seriously, Yeah, one or two though
- 26:49Speaker 1: he's not a one, but I think I mean he
- 26:50Speaker 1: could be a one.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Sometimes the thing is a crochet.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Do you want another lefty plus lefties in Boston they
- 26:56Speaker 3: don't really want because it loads of line up with righties.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Yeah, but I think I love.
- 27:04Speaker 3: The biggest thing for me is they need a bullpen
- 27:06Speaker 3: arm for this is for me, bullpen arm Besides Chapman
- 27:10Speaker 3: had unbelievable. They need a bullpen army.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Their bullpen's in good shade, and I think they need it.
- 27:14Speaker 3: They need a veteran guy because bullpens goes like this
- 27:16Speaker 3: as we all know. Okay, they need a veteran guy.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I'm not saying a ninth inning guy. I'm saying, the
- 27:21Speaker 3: set sixth state inning guy that can clean up some
- 27:22Speaker 3: messes for him, and they need some right handed power.
- 27:25Speaker 3: They gotta find right handed power somewhere in this lineup
- 27:28Speaker 3: because they're all lefties. Other than Bregman, they were all
- 27:32Speaker 3: but they're a historian. Bregman and the rest are all lefties. Duran,
- 27:36Speaker 3: I bray you casses Myer thet Alonzo. He looked he
- 27:45Speaker 3: fit real nice there.
- 27:47Speaker 4: See.
- 27:47Speaker 5: I like lefties in Boston. I like lefties who aren't
- 27:50Speaker 5: afraid to throw inside. The best lefties have to throw inside.
- 27:53Speaker 5: Max Freed does a great job of throwing inside, even
- 27:56Speaker 5: if they stack it with righties. To me, there's some
- 27:59Speaker 5: guys that that change up, that change up and heater in.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Some guys do the cutter in really just exploits exploits
- 28:08Speaker 5: right handed hitters in Boston because they see that they
- 28:12Speaker 5: can pull the ball, and now you're just never going
- 28:15Speaker 5: to be able to pull that cutter in, that heater in,
- 28:18Speaker 5: and then it exposes you for the change up away.
- 28:20Speaker 5: So I like lefties in Boston, and the numbers were
- 28:24Speaker 5: lefties for lefties around the league this year. I think
- 28:27Speaker 5: I think both those dudes are going to be very
- 28:30Speaker 5: highly coveted.
- 28:31Speaker 4: Ranger and Framber.
- 28:34Speaker 1: We had a segment that I thought was really good
- 28:36Speaker 1: where we talked about the Golden era for left handed
- 28:38Speaker 1: pitching right now for a number of reasons that might
- 28:41Speaker 1: boost value for guys like Ranger Suarez on the free
- 28:44Speaker 1: agent market. And then lastly, he said with story he
- 28:48Speaker 1: was aware of some of the errors. I'm aware of
- 28:50Speaker 1: what some of the defensive metrics indicate. I also think
- 28:53Speaker 1: that he brought a stabilizing presence to the infield. And
- 28:56Speaker 1: my opinion is I think he was honest about wearing
- 29:01Speaker 1: down at the end of the year, because.
- 29:02Speaker 4: All of a sudden, you see this full season in
- 29:04Speaker 4: a while and you.
- 29:05Speaker 1: See this burst where the defense kind of crumples, and
- 29:08Speaker 1: it wasn't the whole year. I'm gonna put that on
- 29:11Speaker 1: body wearing out.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Okay, he said it.
- 29:15Speaker 5: I won't even conjecture he said it. He's like, yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 5: kind of wearing down a little bit at the end
- 29:20Speaker 5: of the season.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I think we're gonna get him on soon so we
- 29:24Speaker 1: can ask him about it. Story not Bresla, although Craig's invited,
- 29:29Speaker 1: everyone's invited. We're on every day. Ken Rosenthal's off season
- 29:32Speaker 1: notes column, his first of the off season is up
- 29:34Speaker 1: on the Athletic Right Now, and also he gets into
- 29:37Speaker 1: some of those topics in fair Territory. Two of the
- 29:40Speaker 1: teams that he touches on Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins. We
- 29:46Speaker 1: did five intriguing teams to watch in the offseason last
- 29:50Speaker 1: fair Territory, so he picked up two other teams. He
- 29:56Speaker 1: was selling me. He's like, whoever we say for the five,
- 29:58Speaker 1: the other twenty five fan base, they're going to be
- 30:00Speaker 1: like hey, And so I made sure to preface it
- 30:02Speaker 1: when we started the segment. We're going to talk about
- 30:05Speaker 1: every team this offseason at some point on foul and
- 30:10Speaker 1: on fair. But Ken will also be on with us tomorrow,
- 30:14Speaker 1: so you can ask him about some of those.
- 30:15Speaker 4: He also in Las Vegas.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I'll wait for somebody to reply. Is he you know
- 30:20Speaker 1: he is Crat?
- 30:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean he's in the hotel room.
- 30:23Speaker 5: I just saw. I mean the show today. Didn't you
- 30:25Speaker 5: watch the show today? I did twice.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Here's something you can ask him about. So he wrote
- 30:32Speaker 1: in his notes column that the Rays did some digging
- 30:35Speaker 1: before they didn't pick up the option for Fairbanks, and
- 30:38Speaker 1: they said a few teams are willing to take on
- 30:41Speaker 1: a salary that high for a reliever this early in
- 30:44Speaker 1: the off season. The Orioles were the exception. They brought
- 30:47Speaker 1: back Andrew Kittridge last Wednesday, knowing that they were going
- 30:50Speaker 1: to pick up his nine million dollar option. Man tough
- 30:54Speaker 1: time seeing that one. I'll take the over on Pete
- 30:57Speaker 1: Fairbanks getting more than eleven million dollars guarantee, even on
- 31:02Speaker 1: a one if it ends up being a one year,
- 31:04Speaker 1: Really you think he's less than eleven.
- 31:07Speaker 5: I just think he's gonna be a multi I just
- 31:08Speaker 5: think he's gonna be a multi year deal. I think
- 31:11Speaker 5: if it's a one year deal, probably twelve to thirteen.
- 31:16Speaker 5: If it's a two, two or even who knows, three
- 31:19Speaker 5: year deal. I don't know what teams think about his
- 31:22Speaker 5: fingers going numb and cold, but.
- 31:25Speaker 4: I think I have the beaf. My beef is.
- 31:29Speaker 5: Ken said the Twins are possibly going for it, possibly
- 31:34Speaker 5: still want to win. I'm like, what, Ken's the insider,
- 31:40Speaker 5: but he said that, and I was like, what I
- 31:42Speaker 5: wanted to comment when you got when we put that
- 31:44Speaker 5: out there.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Good news. You get to talk to Ken twice a week.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I would love to see that.
- 31:49Speaker 4: So you can ask the Twins are going for it.
- 31:51Speaker 3: They just sold they treated ten guys at the trade
- 31:53Speaker 3: deadline last year and said they're not going for it regress.
- 31:57Speaker 3: So I mean, unless they're gonna go out and sign
- 31:59Speaker 3: a bunch of dudes Ken. See, this is a good explanation.
- 32:03Speaker 3: This is why Ken fair territory.
- 32:04Speaker 4: You know you won't you have me as dork of
- 32:06Speaker 4: the week, but it should be you sometimes.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I got a little giggle out of this one. The
- 32:14Speaker 1: race pr put out that they traded Cameron Meisner to
- 32:17Speaker 1: the Royals in exchange for a player to be named
- 32:19Speaker 1: later a cash considerations raised the roof those jokesters over
- 32:22Speaker 1: there said chills when the player to be named later
- 32:25Speaker 1: is Bobby wit June.
- 32:28Speaker 3: But I do have a legitimate are the raised? Do
- 32:29Speaker 3: they still have to pay Wander Franco? No, he's off
- 32:33Speaker 3: the books.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I don't. I mean he is on I think the
- 32:36Speaker 1: restricted list, whatever it is, the list he's on. He's
- 32:39Speaker 1: not getting paid right now. Okay, Now if he suddenly
- 32:44Speaker 1: is free from whatever he's deal in jail, is he in.
- 32:47Speaker 4: Jail or he's I think he's on like sentenced to
- 32:50Speaker 4: jail time.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna be real with you. I don't know, stop
- 32:53Speaker 1: paying attention because he didn't get.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Sense but he got convicted.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Right, No, he's still waiting because they're there's more things
- 33:00Speaker 5: that came up about him.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah. To keep it somewhat simple, I don't think
- 33:07Speaker 1: he's coming back to the country.
- 33:09Speaker 4: No, he can't. They won't let him in the country.
- 33:11Speaker 1: And if that's the case, then you're not eligible and
- 33:14Speaker 1: he won't get paid.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Okay, I just so because then they could get if
- 33:18Speaker 3: they don't have him on the books, they can make
- 33:19Speaker 3: that trade for Bobby with Junior.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Right, it's actually a good comp money wise. What a
- 33:27Speaker 1: ton of money off the books?
- 33:29Speaker 4: Well, Bobby wit like three hundred some wonders, was like yeah,
- 33:34Speaker 4: but I'm just saying.
- 33:36Speaker 1: And Max is out in the two hundreds.
- 33:37Speaker 4: I mean, it makes it much more feasible for this
- 33:41Speaker 4: trade to actually happen. It's not happening.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Let's bring up a tweet from Lumerloney, who does Red
- 33:47Speaker 1: tax broadcasting former player, been on with us. He's talking
- 33:50Speaker 1: specifically about Schoogle, who I could see the red talks
- 33:53Speaker 1: trying to acquire. I'll just read it. He said. One
- 33:57Speaker 1: thing to keep in mind in terms of Schooble wanting
- 33:59Speaker 1: to hit free agency. He's going to be a free
- 34:00Speaker 1: agent during the lockout. Who knows when it will be resolved.
- 34:03Speaker 1: He would be on He could be on his couch
- 34:05Speaker 1: in March or April twenty twenty seven without knowing where
- 34:07Speaker 1: to report once camp starts. I'd want an extension through that. Bs.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I actually strongly disagree with almost everything in there. Number one.
- 34:16Speaker 1: If you remember back to the last lockout, which was
- 34:18Speaker 1: not long ago, there was a little spree right before it.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Corey Seger signed for a ton of money, sent me
- 34:24Speaker 1: and signed for a ton of money. Schooble is not
- 34:26Speaker 1: your average Joe free agent. If they are motivated to
- 34:30Speaker 1: get a deal done, and he's coming off a year
- 34:34Speaker 1: in twenty six like he has previously, he'll be fine
- 34:38Speaker 1: and he can sign before the lockout. That's my take.
- 34:42Speaker 1: The point is Trek Scoobl's not sitting there, and neither
- 34:45Speaker 1: is Scott boris his rap going? You know what, aj
- 34:49Speaker 1: We're we're two hundred and fifty million dollars apart between
- 34:53Speaker 1: what we think he should get and what the Tigers think.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Let's give in for the most part, because we're worried
- 34:57Speaker 1: about the lockout. Screw that. They don't care about that.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Because then after the lockout there actually might be more
- 35:03Speaker 4: money available.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Correct either way, And if he's motivated to get something
- 35:07Speaker 1: done before. The way that kind of sweepstakes work is
- 35:11Speaker 1: the player the superstar signs when they want to sign
- 35:14Speaker 1: Boris has done this and others before too, where like
- 35:17Speaker 1: you start to hear like, hey, SODA's going to make
- 35:19Speaker 1: decision this weekend or whatever. Right, if Scooble is motivated
- 35:23Speaker 1: to get something done before whatever the lockout date is nextary,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I think December first, they'll get it done, that's my take.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Or it might be after the winter meetings. I think
- 35:32Speaker 1: they usually do it so that they can get that
- 35:35Speaker 1: in there. So maybe it's like December tenth, I don't
- 35:37Speaker 1: know whatever it is, or maybe it's before I don't know.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Whatever it is, he can get it done, do you agree, Crats.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Yeah you can.
- 35:43Speaker 5: I mean you're not talking about every day run of
- 35:46Speaker 5: the mill guy, like you're talking about a guy who
- 35:50Speaker 5: would single handedly brought his team to the playoffs. So yeah,
- 35:53Speaker 5: you can get it done in whatever whatever fashion. My
- 35:57Speaker 5: guess eight years three ninety he.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Gets wow, look at you putting a number out there already.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I like it, and that would be the largest bridge
- 36:07Speaker 1: in contract for a starting pitcher ever
