January 24 - A Heart That Welcomes God's Authority · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 24th.
• 0:11
  Stay alert. Guard your heart.
• 0:13
Have you ever had that moment where you thought, I've got
• 0:16
this, only to realize later that you ignored advice you really
• 0:19
needed? Maybe someone warned you about a
• 0:21
choice, a relationship, or a pattern you were stepping into,
• 0:25
and you brushed it off. At first, everything seemed
• 0:27
  fine. Then things slowly unraveled.
• 0:30
That uneasy feeling afterward is often the cost of not guarding
• 0:34
your heart. Proverbs chapter 6, verses 20 to
• 0:37
21 speaks with the voice of loving wisdom.
• 0:40
My son, keep your father's commandment and forsake not your
• 0:44
mother's teaching. Bind them on your heart.
• 0:46
Always tie them around your neck.
• 0:48
God isn't just talking about rules, He's talking about
• 0:51
protection. Wise instruction is meant to
• 0:54
stay close, so close that it shapes how you think, choose,
• 0:57
and respond when pressure hits. When wisdom is tied to your
• 1:01
heart, it shows up right when you need it most.
• 1:03
Later in Proverbs chapter 6, verse 34 gives a serious warning
• 1:08
  about jealousy and unchecked desire.
• 1:11
It says jealousy can make someone furious and destructive.
• 1:14
That's what happens when the heart isn't guarded.
• 1:16
When emotions run unchecked and wisdom is ignored, damage
• 1:20
follows not just outwardly but inwardly too.
• 1:23
God knows that what we allow to grow in our hearts eventually
• 1:26
controls our actions. Then Matthew chapter 21 gives us
• 1:30
a powerful image. Jesus walks into the temple and
• 1:33
sees that what was meant to be holy has been turned into
• 1:36
  something corrupt and distracting.
• 1:38
So he flips tables and says, My house shall be called a House of
• 1:41
prayer. Jesus wasn't having a bad day.
• 1:45
He was protecting what mattered. He was restoring the purpose of
• 1:48
a sacred space that had been misused.
• 1:51
That moment should stop us and make us think.
• 1:53
Your heart is sacred space, too. It's where faith grows.
• 1:56
It's where decisions are shaped. It's where God wants to dwell.
• 2:00
When distractions, compromise, bitterness, or unhealthy desires
• 2:04
  take over, it affects everything.
• 2:06
Jesus cares deeply about what fills your heart, not to shame
• 2:09
you, but to protect you. God's commands aren't meant to
• 2:12
cramp your life. They're meant to guard it.
• 2:15
Just like ignoring warning signs on the road can lead to an
• 2:17
accident, ignoring God's voice can lead to unnecessary pain.
• 2:22
But when you stay alert, listen to wise counsel, and protect
• 2:25
your heart, you're positioning yourself for peace, clarity, and
• 2:29
purpose. Your choices today are shaping
• 2:31
who you become tomorrow. Guarding your heart isn't about
• 2:34
  fear. It's about love.
• 2:36
Love for God, love for your future, and love for the life
• 2:39
He's calling you to live. Let's pray.
• 2:42
Heavenly Father, thank you for caring enough to guide me and
• 2:45
warn me when I'm drifting. Help me value the wisdom You've
• 2:48
placed in my life and keep it close to my heart.
• 2:51
Show me anything that doesn't belong in your temple and give
• 2:54
me the courage to let it go. Teach me to stay alert, guard my
• 2:57
heart, and walk in your purpose every day.
• 3:00
In Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
• 3:04
more is actually God calling you deeper?

• 4:16
satisfies. Now I invite you to spend time
• 4:20
with God in today's three-year Bible reading plan, Proverbs
• 4:24
chapter 6 verses 20 to 35 World English Bible.
• 4:29
My son, keep your father's commandment, and don't forsake
• 4:31
your mother's teaching. Bind them continually on your
• 4:34
heart. Tie them around your neck.
• 4:36
When you walk it will lead you. When you sleep it will watch
• 4:39
over you, When you awake it will talk with you.
• 4:42
For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light.
• 4:45
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life.
• 4:47
To keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the
• 4:50
wayward wife's tongue. Don't lust after her beauty in
• 4:54
your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids,
• 4:57
for a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread.
• 5:00
The adulterous hunts for your precious life.
• 5:02
Can a man scoop fire into his lap and his clothes not be
• 5:06
burned? Or can one walk on hot coals and
• 5:08
his feet not be scorched? So is he who goes into his
• 5:11
neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her will not be
• 5:14
unpunished. Men don't despise a thief if he
• 5:17
steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry.
• 5:20
But if he is found, he shall restore 7 times.
• 5:23
He shall give all the wealth of his house.
• 5:25
He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding.
• 5:29
He who does it destroys his own soul.
• 5:31
He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped
• 5:35
away, for jealousy arouses the fury of the husband.
• 5:38
He won't spare in the day of vengeance.
• 5:40
He won't regard any ransom, neither will he rest content
• 5:43
though you give many gifts. Matthew Chapter 21 World English
• 5:48
Bible When they came near to Jerusalem and came to Bethsfidge
• 5:51
to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent 2 disciples saying to
• 5:55
them, go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately
• 5:59
you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her.
• 6:02
Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you,
• 6:05
you shall say the Lord needs them and immediately he will
• 6:09
send them. All this was done that it might
• 6:11
be fulfilled, which was spoken through the prophet saying, Tell
• 6:15
the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king comes to you humble,
• 6:18
and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
• 6:22
The disciples went and did just as Jesus commanded them, and
• 6:25
brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their clothes on them,
• 6:28
and he sat on them. A very great multitude spread
• 6:31
their clothes on the road, others cut branches from the
• 6:34
trees and spread them on the road.
• 6:37
The multitudes who went in front of him and those who followed
• 6:40
kept shouting Hosanna to the Son of David.
• 6:43
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the
• 6:46
highest. When he had come into Jerusalem,
• 6:48
all the city was stirred up, saying, Who is this?
• 6:51
The multitude said, this is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of
• 6:55
Galilee. Jesus entered into the temple of
• 6:58
God and drove out all of those who sold and bought in the
• 7:00
temple and overthrew the money changers, tables and the seats
• 7:04
of those who sold the doves. He said to them, It is written,
• 7:07
My house shall be called a House of prayer, but you have made it
• 7:10
a den of robbers. The lame and the blind came to
• 7:13
him in the temple, and he healed them.
• 7:15
But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful
• 7:18
things that he did, and the children who were crying in the
• 7:20
temple and saying hosanna to the Son of David, they were
• 7:24
indignant and said to him, Do you hear what these are saying?
• 7:28
Jesus said to them, Yes. Did you never read out of the
• 7:32
mouth of children and nursing babies?
• 7:34
You have perfected praise. He left them and went out of the
• 7:37
city to Bethany and camped there.
• 7:39
Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he was
• 7:42
hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road,
• 7:44
he came to it and found nothing on it but leaves.
• 7:47
He said to it, Let there be no fruit from you forever.
• 7:50
Immediately the fig tree withered away.
• 7:52
When the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How did the
• 7:55
  fig tree immediately wither away?
• 7:58
  Jesus answered them most certainly.
• 8:00
I tell you, if you have faith and don't doubt, you will not
• 8:02
only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you told this
• 8:06
mountain be taken up and cast into the sea, it would be done.
• 8:09
All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing you will
• 8:12
receive. When He had come into the
• 8:14
temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to
• 8:18
him as He was teaching and said, By what authority do you do
• 8:21
these things? Who gave you this authority?
• 8:24
Jesus answered them. I also will ask you one
• 8:26
question, which if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what
• 8:29
authority I do these things. The baptism of John, where was
• 8:33
it from? From heaven or from men?
• 8:36
They reasoned with themselves, saying, if we say from heaven,
• 8:39
he will ask us, Why then did you not believe him?
• 8:41
But if we say from men, we fear the multitude, for all hold John
• 8:45
as a prophet. They answered Jesus and said, We
• 8:48
don't know. He also said to them, Neither
• 8:51
will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
• 8:53
But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came
• 8:56
to the 1st and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard.
• 9:00
He answered, I will not. But afterward he changed his
• 9:03
mind and went. He came to the second and said
• 9:06
the same thing. He answered, I'm going, Sir.
• 9:08
But he didn't go. Which of the two did?
• 9:10
The will of his Father they said to him.
• 9:13
The first Jesus said to them, most certainly.
• 9:16
I tell you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes
• 9:18
are entering into God's Kingdom before you.
• 9:21
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn't
• 9:24
believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes
• 9:27
believed him when you saw it. You didn't even repent afterward
• 9:31
that you might believe him. Hear another parable.
• 9:34
There was a man who was a master of a household who planted a
• 9:37
vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a wine press in it, built a
• 9:41
tower, leased it out to farmers, and went into another country.
• 9:45
When the season for the fruit came near, he sent his servants
• 9:47
to the farmers to receive his fruit.
• 9:50
The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and
• 9:53
stoned another. Again he sent other servants
• 9:56
more than the first, and they treated them the same way.
• 9:59
But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, They will
• 10:02
respect my son. But the farmers, when they saw
• 10:05
the sunset among themselves, This is the air.
• 10:08
Come, let's kill him and seize his inheritance.
• 10:11
So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, then killed
• 10:14
him. When therefore the Lord of the
• 10:16
vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?
• 10:19
They told him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men and
• 10:22
will lease out the vineyard to other farmers who will give him
• 10:25
the fruit in its season. Jesus said to them, Did you
• 10:28
never read in the Scriptures? The stone which the builders
• 10:31
rejected was made the head of the corner?
• 10:33
This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes.
• 10:37
Therefore I tell you, God's Kingdom will be taken away from
• 10:40
you and will be given to a nation producing its fruit.
• 10:43
He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but on
• 10:46
whomever it will fall, it will scatter Him as dust.
• 10:49
When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables,
• 10:52
they perceived that He spoke about them.
• 10:54
When they sought to seize Him, they feared the multitudes
• 10:58
because they considered Him to be a prophet.
