Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Now, I asked Joakim this question earlier and I asked him,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Have you ever imagined like your favorite singer or band
- 0:10Speaker 1: just showing up, um, for at your house to perform?
- 0:14Speaker 1: Have you ever thought about that before? OK, come, uh,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Sam Willows, let's do it. I mean that one Ben
- 0:20Speaker 1: King might show up at your house anytime. That's, that's
- 0:22Speaker 1: still OK, right? No, but I was gonna say, so
- 0:24Speaker 1: whenever I see this girl's videos on TikTok, I made
- 0:28Speaker 1: it a point to have her on my radar for
- 0:30Speaker 1: when she puts out her own single, and then I'll say, hey,
- 0:33Speaker 1: let's bring on 987 to have you sing it.
- 0:35Speaker 1: But then every National Day, at least the last two years, yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: whenever she puts out like a melody or her own
- 0:41Speaker 1: song for National Day, I get tagged in the video saying, hey, Joakim, uh,
- 0:45Speaker 1: get her to sing the theme song like as if
- 0:47Speaker 1: I'm the power that be. But you know what, she's
- 0:50Speaker 1: won the lottery this year.
- 0:52Speaker 1: In more ways than one, maybe not just yet when
- 0:55Speaker 1: it comes to the nation's song that could be in
- 0:57Speaker 1: the future, but Rex Orange County actually went down to
- 1:01Speaker 1: her house and performed there for a, for a house gig,
- 1:05Speaker 1: home gig, whatever you want to say. Please say hi
- 1:07Speaker 1: to Clara.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Good
- 1:11Speaker 2: morning. Morning,
- 1:13Speaker 1: Clara. Seriously, you're, you're holding the guitar right now signed
- 1:17Speaker 1: by Rex Orange County. Take us through the beginning. I mean,
- 1:21Speaker 1: we know that when it comes to Rex Orange County,
- 1:23Speaker 1: he's quite spontaneous and he likes to do these random
- 1:26Speaker 1: pop-ups without telling anyone. How did this even transpire?
- 1:29Speaker 2: This transpired through like an email, but I thought it
- 1:34Speaker 2: was a scam.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Because it was a super SARS email. It was like, oh,
- 1:39Speaker 2: we saw your TikTok and we wanna get Rex Orange
- 1:42Speaker 2: County to come to your house. Oh my God. And
- 1:43Speaker 2: then they just tagged their official account, and I was like, uh,
- 1:47Speaker 2: is this a scam? Then after that, I went to
- 1:49Speaker 2: his main page and I saw that he actually went
- 1:53Speaker 2: to other people's house and it was like live at
- 1:56Speaker 2: like their names and everything. And I was like, oh
- 1:58Speaker 2: my gosh, this is unreal.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But you
- 2:00Speaker 1: can never be too careful, I guess, when you saw that.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So how did you respond? Did you like scream and
- 2:05Speaker 1: go and tell your family first or what? Yeah,
- 2:07Speaker 2: my brother was like right next to me. Oh, OK,
- 2:10Speaker 2: missing information. Before this, he liked my TikTok. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 2: That's the first. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the first sign
- 2:17Speaker 2: and I was super excited. I was like, oh my gosh,
- 2:19Speaker 2: he liked my TikTok I like me saying, oh, Orange County.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Come back to Singapore again, because previously I missed his concert.
- 2:27Speaker 2: So like, this was super like exciting. I thought he
- 2:30Speaker 2: was actually coming back. I mean he did kind of
- 2:32Speaker 2: come back in a way
- 2:35Speaker 1: for to meet you. I would say. So when you
- 2:38Speaker 1: told your family that mom, dad, Rex Orange County is
- 2:40Speaker 1: coming to our place, did your mom go all Asian
- 2:42Speaker 1: mom saying, I, the house is so messy, must clean
- 2:44Speaker 1: now and all that? Did
- 2:45Speaker 1: she say, Who's that? Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: she said, Who's that.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'm like, who is this even? Then me and my
- 2:50Speaker 2: brother was like, you don't get it. It's like it's
- 2:52Speaker 2: a big deal. Yeah, it's like a super big deal.
- 2:55Speaker 2: But most of my family didn't know him except for
- 2:58Speaker 2: me and my brother.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So
- 3:00Speaker 1: you said, Mummy, mommy, um, do you think we can
- 3:02Speaker 1: make the, make him some food or
- 3:04Speaker 2: yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 1: what was done
- 3:06Speaker 1: like actually to prep,
- 3:07Speaker 2: to prep for him? like I think he spent like
- 3:10Speaker 2: $300 to like, like.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Put all the food we bought like Mr. Coconut shakes
- 3:16Speaker 2: we bought like satay, you know, when Rex Orange County
- 3:19Speaker 2: when we gave him the food, he was like, Oh, satay.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Then we were like that was super funny.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Oh that's cute. Yeah, yeah. We prepared for him like
- 3:30Speaker 2: uh chicken rice, um, shepherd's pie, chicken pie from my
- 3:36Speaker 2: like mom's local like business with my grandparents. He loved
- 3:40Speaker 2: that also, yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And that was 300
- 3:43Speaker 1: dollars.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I think like, OK, yeah, it was like a lot.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Orange County aside, look, when it comes to you as
- 3:50Speaker 1: an individual, we've seen your videos, by the way, we love,
- 3:53Speaker 1: we love how you're singing and just, you know, crashing
- 3:55Speaker 1: out first and then going into a very nice song
- 3:57Speaker 1: to surprise all of us on TikTok. How did this
- 4:00Speaker 1: love for singing come about? And tell us more about yourself.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Were you always the performer like back in primary and
- 4:06Speaker 1: secondary school? Did they say, Clara, go and sing, go
- 4:08Speaker 1: and sing, and you actually did it.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Um, I think I first had my love for music
- 4:13Speaker 2: because I served in like my church, my church worship.
- 4:17Speaker 2: That's how like I started like singing at all. Then
- 4:20Speaker 2: like from there I learned from like my grandparents. My
- 4:23Speaker 2: grandparents are like super musically inclined. They met through like
- 4:27Speaker 2: a choir because my grandpa was the opera singer and
- 4:29Speaker 2: my grandma was the pianist is so cool. Yeah, so crazy.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I mean you have this.
- 4:37Speaker 1: How old are you this year? Like what,
- 4:38Speaker 2: 18,
- 4:39Speaker 1: 17. OK, you're not even turning 18 just yet. You
- 4:42Speaker 1: already have this like raspy quality of your voice that I,
- 4:46Speaker 1: I love so much. I love it so much. And
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's already almost like you're naturally blessed with this quality
- 4:51Speaker 1: of voice. Did it take someone to tell you like, hey, Clara,
- 4:54Speaker 1: I actually got a good voice?
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh,
- 4:57Speaker 1: your brother
- 4:57Speaker 2: was the one.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Oh,
- 4:58Speaker 2: sweet. And my brother asked me to go post. That's
- 5:02Speaker 2: like he's my, like,
- 5:04Speaker 1: future artist manager.
- 5:06Speaker 2: He's the,
- 5:07Speaker 1: he's the funniest to your Billie Eilish.
- 5:10Speaker 2: For real,
- 5:11Speaker 1: for real. OK, so, um, now that you know, you,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you've calmed down about the experience, Rex Storage County being
- 5:17Speaker 1: in your house and all that, during the process of
- 5:20Speaker 1: filming and like doing the whole performance and everything, what
- 5:23Speaker 1: was going through your mind in that moment? When
- 5:26Speaker 2: he
- 5:26Speaker 2: was performing? It was just like so surreal. I was like,
- 5:31Speaker 2: oh my goodness, he's performing in front of me. Then
- 5:34Speaker 2: we were like, super like.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Just mind blown. Like, OK, I don't know about my family.
- 5:39Speaker 2: My family just was like, yeah, but me and my brother,
- 5:42Speaker 2: we were like, yeah, it was crazy. But you,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you sang for him as well.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Did you, did you? He asked me to sing with
- 5:51Speaker 2: him actually. He heard me singing with him like, like
- 5:55Speaker 2: from the previous song. He helped me harmonizing and then
- 5:58Speaker 2: he was like.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Actually, I know you sing and I heard you have covers, like,
- 6:02Speaker 2: so why don't we do a song right now? I
- 6:03Speaker 2: was like, yes, yes,
- 6:05Speaker 2: please.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So now that, I mean, obviously that video absolutely blew up, um,
- 6:10Speaker 1: what are you doing with all the newfound followers and
- 6:14Speaker 1: like love for you right now on social media? Like,
- 6:17Speaker 1: are you handling it OK?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm handling it like it's like crazy because like
- 6:22Speaker 2: What do you mean? What do you mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 2: it's super crazy.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You know what, when we come back after a short break,
- 6:30Speaker 1: we're gonna hear Clara sing live on 987. Mic is on,
- 6:34Speaker 1: by the way, so if you want to really go
- 6:35Speaker 1: and find out, can this girl sing, join us live
- 6:38Speaker 1: on TikTok to watch her do it live as well. Yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and this is where there are no theatrics about this.
- 6:44Speaker 1: She's literally here with her guitar. We did a sound
- 6:47Speaker 1: check earlier. We plugged in.
- 6:49Speaker 1: All that and more coming up next. Anyway, we are
- 6:51Speaker 1: still back here with Clara. If you are live with
- 6:54Speaker 1: us on TikTok right now, you would know and maybe
- 6:56Speaker 1: even recognize her. Rex Orange County literally showed up at
- 7:00Speaker 1: her house, her family home, much to the shock and
- 7:03Speaker 1: surprise of everyone, including yourself, and performed there, and she
- 7:06Speaker 1: also managed to do a little bit of a performance.
- 7:09Speaker 1: That and also not forgetting that Clara is an amazing singer.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So what I'm gonna hear from you in a while
- 7:14Speaker 1: here on 987?
- 7:15Speaker 2: This is a song that Rex performed before he released
- 7:18Speaker 2: it and it's called Indecision.
- 7:20Speaker 1: OK.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Alright. Yeah. Whenever you're ready, Clara, take it away.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Let me know.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Let me know
- 7:46Speaker 2: Is it
- 7:49Speaker 2: Time for me to go.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yes, what's up?
- 7:57Speaker 2: this is
- 8:00Speaker 2: If I leave for you
- 8:02Speaker 2: That's OK
- 8:05Speaker 2: living in
- 8:08Speaker 2: Hanging on to feeling.
- 8:10Speaker 2: In my re you, I can let them go. You
- 8:15Speaker 2: said you'd be with me for a time.
- 8:21Speaker 2: We were naive, we were young, we were green.
- 8:25Speaker 2: is harder to believe. I find someone new.
- 8:30Speaker 2: put up with me.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You slip right through my finger.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I have to sabotage.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Me
- 8:59Speaker 2: Is it getting to that time for me to go.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I guess what's dope.
- 9:11Speaker 2: If I leave you
- 9:14Speaker 2: That, so keep on living.
- 9:18Speaker 2: In
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yep.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I should
- 9:23Speaker 2: And.
- 9:26Speaker 2: If you run off to be with
- 9:37Speaker 1: Guys, guys, mic was on. Mike was live. She knew
- 9:42Speaker 1: her mic was on. No auto-tune, no post-production. She did
- 9:46Speaker 1: it live. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Clara.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Beautiful. I could not tell that you were nervous. I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you laughed here and there, but that's what I enjoyed
- 9:54Speaker 1: about it because you looked like you were in the
- 9:56Speaker 1: moment and you were enjoying yourself, you know, you're having fun.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You were, you were at that place. Clara, my, my,
- 10:02Speaker 1: my last question to you is, please tell us you're
- 10:05Speaker 1: writing your own songs, you have your own music coming
- 10:07Speaker 1: out in the near future. Please say yes. Yes.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Soon, soon. OK.
- 10:12Speaker 1: You know who to hit up. Like please just drop
- 10:14Speaker 1: us a text and come back. You have us on
- 10:17Speaker 1: DMs come back. Yeah. Yeah. Please, um, for those of
- 10:20Speaker 1: you who have just joined us and you're wondering who
- 10:23Speaker 1: is this one girl with a wonderful voice, can you
- 10:26Speaker 1: please tell them where to follow you on all
- 10:28Speaker 1: platforms?
- 10:28Speaker 2: Um, Clara Teo, T H I O.
- 10:32Speaker 1: That's it on all platforms. Yes.
- 10:34Speaker 2: OK, not Facebook though. Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 1: We don't need Facebook anymore, remember the last time we
- 10:40Speaker 1: opened that.
