- 0:00Speaker 1: And after the UK we go. Vincent Mecavinni, good morning
- 0:02Speaker 1: to you.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:05Speaker 1: So there's FGEN data bridge. What's the latest on this?
- 0:09Speaker 2: Yeah, this has been rumbling on for a few days now.
- 0:11Speaker 2: It's been revealed after a superinjunction a very rare legal
- 0:15Speaker 2: procedure was lifted that a data breach detailing some Afghan
- 0:22Speaker 2: citizens who had aided British troops and other forces during
- 0:26Speaker 2: the many years that they were there doing things like
- 0:29Speaker 2: translation and working with them. Well, their personal details and
- 0:33Speaker 2: details of their family were leaked out, putting them at risk,
- 0:35Speaker 2: and so there has been this secret scheme which has
- 0:38Speaker 2: resettled many of them here in the UK. But this
- 0:41Speaker 2: afternoon it's been discovered that the names of around one
- 0:43Speaker 2: hundred British nationals, including spies working for intelligence agencies like
- 0:48Speaker 2: MI six and members of the Special Forces the SAS
- 0:51Speaker 2: and SBS, their details were also on this spreadsheet, compromising them.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Because it's unclear whether or not this leak stayed in
- 0:59Speaker 2: Afghanistan or if other powers such as China or Russia
- 1:03Speaker 2: were able to get their hands on it, and that
- 1:04Speaker 2: would have identified some people whose identities should have really
- 1:08Speaker 2: remained protected.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Meanwhile, you've actually done it. Sixteen year olds will vote
- 1:13Speaker 1: at the nixt general election in twenty twenty nine.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, the first general election where we'll see
- 1:20Speaker 2: sixteen and seventeen year olds getting to vote. It was
- 1:24Speaker 2: something that Labor had promised in their manifesto, but it
- 1:26Speaker 2: wasn't clear when they were actually going to introduce this.
- 1:29Speaker 2: There's a bit of thinking in the party that younger
- 1:31Speaker 2: people tend to be more left leaning and so that
- 1:33Speaker 2: they could support them. But more generally, a lot of
- 1:36Speaker 2: people welcoming this proposal because it does seem like a
- 1:40Speaker 2: lot of people, particularly older voters, are the ones only
- 1:44Speaker 2: being catered to buy the parties when it comes to elections.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Things here in the UK, with what we call the
- 1:50Speaker 2: triple lock, which is a freeze on sort of changing
- 1:53Speaker 2: pension rules mean that they're pretty well protected in terms
- 1:57Speaker 2: of how they provide out the sort of recent times
- 1:59Speaker 2: in the ECONO, but services for young people being cut,
- 2:03Speaker 2: more student fees it being increased, all that kind of stuff.
- 2:06Speaker 2: People are thinking this might try to rebalance somewhat the
- 2:08Speaker 2: generational divide that we're seeing here in the UK.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah, going to come up. There's going to be some
- 2:13Speaker 1: left leading parties are going to come up with some
- 2:15Speaker 1: pretty wacky policies. I mean, you know, free Minecraft and
- 2:18Speaker 1: upgrades for every kid because they think they might actually
- 2:20Speaker 1: get them some votes. So good luck. Do you have
- 2:22Speaker 1: a great weekend, Vincent mcavinia.
