Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Per this podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:15Speaker 1: new Arth and today we're joined by Brodie Randall, Seth Chester, Alyssa,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Chili Roman and Keith. This is a ten round quiz
- 0:23Speaker 1: show with questions from Meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:27Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:30Speaker 1: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:34Speaker 1: the winners. Choosing and for the start of the week.
- 0:36Speaker 1: This week we're looking at player performance in the conservation category.
- 0:41Speaker 1: In the history of all Meat Eater conservation questions, the
- 0:44Speaker 1: player average is forty seven percent, which is the exact
- 0:47Speaker 1: same as the hunting category. Now at the top of
- 0:50Speaker 1: the leaderboard, Keith, do you have any predictions about who
- 0:53Speaker 1: our best performer is in the conservation category?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Is this company wider just in this on that Mike
- 1:00Speaker 2: Keith company wide?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Who's our best performer in the conservation category? I think
- 1:06Speaker 1: Steve okay, Steve is not right. Chilli got ain't guesses
- 1:11Speaker 1: and the conservation conservation category? Who you know most about
- 1:14Speaker 1: conservation man?
- 1:15Speaker 3: I would have to go with our director of conservation.
- 1:18Speaker 3: That'd be Ryan Callahan.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Also wrong, Alyssa who's at the top of the also wrong,
- 1:27Speaker 1: Chest Randall.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Randall.
- 1:29Speaker 1: At the top of the leaderboard is Randall, who gets
- 1:31Speaker 1: seventy percent of conservation questions correct. That's followed by Steve
- 1:36Speaker 1: with sixty six percent, Brody with sixty three percent, Clay
- 1:40Speaker 1: and Can with fifty nine percent, and Giannis with fifty
- 1:42Speaker 1: seven percent. Conservation is Randall's strongest category in Brody's weakest category.
- 1:48Speaker 1: But Brody, it says a lot about you that your
- 1:50Speaker 1: weakest category is a category where you get sixty three
- 1:54Speaker 1: percent of questions right.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Sure, I guess, I don't know. It's a compliment. I'd
- 2:00Speaker 4: rather be at the top.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Now here's our Infrequently Asked Question segment. If you have
- 2:04Speaker 1: a trivia related question for our crew, send it to
- 2:07Speaker 1: Trivia at the Medeater dot com with the subject line IFAQ.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Nick B wants to know what are the sound bites
- 2:13Speaker 1: from Phil's drop? My brain is convinced that it is
- 2:16Speaker 1: breaking bad while also being sure that I'm one hundred
- 2:19Speaker 1: percent wrong. So what is it? Phil? What are the
- 2:22Speaker 1: sound bites in your drop?
- 2:24Speaker 5: Well, there's only one sound bite. And that's from No
- 2:27Speaker 5: Country for Old Men, the two thousand and seven Cohen
- 2:30Speaker 5: Brothers movie. It's the Cormack McCarthy adaptation, and then Who
- 2:35Speaker 5: Wants to Be a Millionaire? Of course those just those two.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and the cadence is such in the No Country
- 2:40Speaker 1: for Old Men bit that Now, when I like see
- 2:42Speaker 1: the movie, I'm expecting it to move faster, but it's
- 2:44Speaker 1: actually like a very trund like. Yeah, it's a very
- 2:46Speaker 1: simmering scene where it's all very slow.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Love it.
- 2:50Speaker 5: It's a great scene, but it works.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It works well. Bryce McCurry wants to know in the
- 2:55Speaker 1: trivia outro music, is there a hidden owl hoot? At
- 2:59Speaker 1: about the twenty five I have second mark? I keep
- 3:01Speaker 1: thinking I hear little something in there, Phil, is there
- 3:03Speaker 1: an owl hoot? Twenty five second mark?
- 3:05Speaker 4: There's not.
- 3:06Speaker 5: And when you sent this to me, I thought I
- 3:08Speaker 5: was going insane because I've never heard this before. What
- 3:10Speaker 5: is this guy talking about? And I listened back and
- 3:13Speaker 5: I've only heard this on headphones before. But yeah, at
- 3:16Speaker 5: the twenty five mark of that song, there's a very
- 3:18Speaker 5: sort of like like reverberating kind of like boo sound. Okay,
- 3:22Speaker 5: but I'm pretty sure, it's just kind of like a
- 3:24Speaker 5: stray woodblock. It's not an owl though, So I'm sorry
- 3:27Speaker 5: to disappoint. But now that I know that people are
- 3:29Speaker 5: listening that hard, you should find some ways to do
- 3:32Speaker 5: some subliminal message here, something like that.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That Bryce is the only person who's ever wrote in
- 3:36Speaker 1: about that. Yeah, so one one of our listeners noticed
- 3:39Speaker 1: the fake owl. Hoot, we have some Housekeeman to get to.
- 3:42Speaker 1: In a recent episode of Trivia, we had a question
- 3:44Speaker 1: about the Polish word for sausage, which is kill bossa.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We then talked about how it's redundant for packaging to
- 3:51Speaker 1: say kill bossa sausage. Well, I wasn't giving food brands
- 3:54Speaker 1: enough credit because, as it turns out, almost all of
- 3:56Speaker 1: them correctly labeled kill bossa by calling them just polish
- 4:00Speaker 1: sausage or kill bossa. But I did find one egregious
- 4:04Speaker 1: example which was done by Johnsonville on their Killbossa packaging.
- 4:09Speaker 1: They had it labeled as fresh Polish Killbosa sausage, which
- 4:13Speaker 1: is basically the equivalent of calling it fresh Polish sausage sausage.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But it appears that the packaging was short lived in Johnsonville.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Now just labels their kill bosses as Polish sausage or
- 4:25Speaker 1: Polish kill bosses Randall in the world of hot dogs,
- 4:29Speaker 1: how does Johnsonville rank for you? Are they? Are they
- 4:31Speaker 1: up there?
- 4:32Speaker 3: I associate Johnsonville with their high quality brats, so I
- 4:36Speaker 3: was a little surprised to hear that they had mislabeled
- 4:38Speaker 3: their kilbossa. But I'm glad that they've corrected it because
- 4:43Speaker 3: they usually seem to be on their game.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, they're not not doing fresh polish sausage sausage anymore. Now.
- 4:50Speaker 1: The Shelby Index for today's round is a three, so
- 4:52Speaker 1: our winner should get six correct answers. And with that
- 4:55Speaker 1: we're onto the game of trivia. Play the Dropville. Look,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I need to know what I stand and win everything.
- 5:06Speaker 1: How's it just tend to win everything? Demon Suckers? Question one.
- 5:18Speaker 1: The topic is biology, and as always, this will be
- 5:20Speaker 1: multiple choice and this first great question is via Ryan Wilkins.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Biologists refer to these as quote, bear butter, which grizzlies
- 5:30Speaker 1: in the Rocky Mountains will eat thousands of in a
- 5:32Speaker 1: single day. Is it mice, slugs, fish, eggs, or moths.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Biologists refer to these as bear butter, which grizzlies in
- 5:44Speaker 1: the Rocky Mountains will eat thousands of in a single day.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Is it mice, slugs, fish eggs or moths? Randall and
- 5:55Speaker 1: Brody and Seth knew it immediately. Did you boys even
- 5:58Speaker 1: need the multiple choice? Or did you just know this?
- 6:01Speaker 1: They knew it, just knew it. The rest of the
- 6:04Speaker 1: room doesn't quite look is confident? What is bear butter?
- 6:08Speaker 1: Is it mice, slugs, fish eggs or moths? It's everybody ready,
- 6:16Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Chester saying moths,
- 6:20Speaker 1: Roman saying fish eggs, Keith saying mice, Alyssa saying fish eggs,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Chili saying fish eggs, Seth and Randall and Brody saying moths.
- 6:31Speaker 1: They got it. The correct answer is moths. Each summer,
- 6:35Speaker 1: grizzly bears in the lower forty eight feast on army
- 6:39Speaker 1: cutworm moths. These moths migrate to high elevation rock fields
- 6:44Speaker 1: above the tree line, where it's estimated that some grizzlies
- 6:47Speaker 1: eat up to forty thousand each day. The moths are
- 6:50Speaker 1: high in fat, which can provide bears with one third
- 6:53Speaker 1: of the calories they need for hibernation. Have boy's ever
- 6:58Speaker 1: seen this happen before, where they're up there flipping rocks
- 7:01Speaker 1: and logs looking for moths.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Nope, I've I've seen where they've been digging. I haven't
- 7:07Speaker 3: watched him.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Forty thousand in a single day. I think they said
- 7:11Speaker 1: each moth is eight calories.
- 7:14Speaker 5: You know, I've heard where there's spots in Montana where
- 7:18Speaker 5: you can go to watch this m like like a
- 7:21Speaker 5: drive in movie theater.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I've seen video. Are they those spruce moths?
- 7:27Speaker 1: Army cutworm armys? Question two, the topic is gear. What
- 7:32Speaker 1: Camo brand introduced their bottom land pattern in nineteen eighty six?
- 7:40Speaker 1: What Cameo brand introduced their bottom land pattern in nineteen
- 7:45Speaker 1: eighty six? Keith knew this one. He's our only one
- 7:52Speaker 1: wearing Camo in the room today. He's also our only
- 7:55Speaker 1: player with a pug on his lap. Oh, we could
- 7:59Speaker 1: hear it there.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Mayavis's rock and say something bug All. She's got snorts, guys,
- 8:06Speaker 2: but she's been pretty good so far.
- 8:09Speaker 1: What Camel brand introduced their bottom land pattern in nineteen
- 8:14Speaker 1: eighty six? Keith, What are you doing in town this week?
- 8:17Speaker 2: I'm here open up the new Mediator store, flagship store
- 8:20Speaker 2: over on Main Street.
- 8:21Speaker 1: It's pretty cool. What are your what are your thoughts
- 8:23Speaker 1: on it? Right away? Just three days till we open.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I just love walking in there. It looks like a museum.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I just you can see all sorts of mounts that
- 8:30Speaker 2: a lot of the people here have harvested. You get
- 8:33Speaker 2: all the cool first light stuff, you get to put
- 8:35Speaker 2: your hands on it, some really cool meat eater stuff.
- 8:38Speaker 1: It's just it's a dream store downtown. Bozman. I've got
- 8:42Speaker 1: too deer hanging in there in a fish fossil, so
- 8:44Speaker 1: you go go check that out. Is everybody ready? Everyone
- 8:48Speaker 1: have an answer for the Camel brand who introduced the
- 8:51Speaker 1: bottom land pattern in nineteen eighty six, Go ahead and
- 8:55Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Chester saying massy oak, Roman
- 8:59Speaker 1: saying massioke, Keith saying massioak, Alyssa saying massioak, Chile saying massioake,
- 9:04Speaker 1: Seth's saying massioak, Ran saying massioake. Brody sang real tree.
- 9:08Speaker 1: The correct answer is massy.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Oak, suck it Brody.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Massoake was created by toxy Haas in Mississippi in nineteen
- 9:19Speaker 1: eighty six. His vision was to take Mississippi dirt sticks
- 9:23Speaker 1: and leaves and use those elements in a new type
- 9:25Speaker 1: of camo. Bottomland was Massioake's first pattern and one of
- 9:29Speaker 1: just two patterns that they print in pink.
- 9:32Speaker 3: What was the fellow's name?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Uh t x e y toxi toxy haas Question three?
- 9:42Speaker 1: The topic is cooking, also known as lace fat. This
- 9:46Speaker 1: thin membrane surrounds the stomach of deer and pigs. Seth
- 9:53Speaker 1: and Brody and Keith appear to know it. The topic
- 9:57Speaker 1: is cooking, also known as is lace fat. This thin
- 10:02Speaker 1: membrane surrounds the stomach of deer and pigs. Brody, how
- 10:06Speaker 1: close were you just saying mossioch on that last one?
- 10:09Speaker 4: Not at all. I just like the thought of real tree.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Talk with it, massy oak bottom land.
- 10:15Speaker 6: I like real tree. Bottom land sounds better.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Also known as lace fat, this thin membrane surrounds the
- 10:23Speaker 1: stomach of deer and pigs. Randall, do you have this one?
- 10:26Speaker 3: I'm drawing a blank that w.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Could give the room a chance to to catch up.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Could be that seat you're sitting in there.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I feel like I feel like a circus animal up
- 10:41Speaker 3: on a pedestal here.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Like an elephant in butte yes, did they wrangle that thing?
- 10:48Speaker 6: Conclusion wasn't think a deal as everyone made it out.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I mean, how often is there an elephant walking down
- 10:56Speaker 1: the road, But like the.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Train or was you're walking around play is the elephant
- 11:01Speaker 3: at the.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I just like at Montane Lil's casino, It's like the.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Trainer was walking around behind the thing as it was
- 11:10Speaker 6: like cruising around.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I had to go to an appointment, but I almost
- 11:12Speaker 3: thought about driving over there and hopes that they hadn't
- 11:14Speaker 3: wrangled it and seeing if I could get myself took
- 11:16Speaker 3: a dump.
- 11:16Speaker 4: In someone's yard I had.
- 11:18Speaker 1: This sounds like a bigger deal than I actually thought
- 11:20Speaker 1: it was before. Now also known as lace fat, this
- 11:26Speaker 1: thin membrane surrounds the stomach of deer and pigs.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Come up with, oh you know what I think I did?
- 11:33Speaker 5: I feel like that dump is going to be in
- 11:34Speaker 5: a museum in Butte someday, because not a lot goes
- 11:38Speaker 5: on over there.
- 11:39Speaker 1: They have a great gem in mineral museum in Butte.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I've been a couple of times, phenomenal. It's everybody ready,
- 11:46Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Chester saying
- 11:51Speaker 1: coddle fat, Roman saying call fat, Keith saying call fat,
- 11:55Speaker 1: Elsta without an answer.
- 11:56Speaker 4: You've got some work ahead of you on this.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Chilly's saying call fat, at Set saying call fat, Randall's
- 12:02Speaker 1: saying coddle uh, and Brody saying call fat. The correct
- 12:06Speaker 1: answer is call fat. I don't think we're gonna give
- 12:09Speaker 1: it to Chester or Randall and said we'll give it
- 12:15Speaker 1: to Roman. Roman had a creative spelling. He spelled it
- 12:18Speaker 1: ce o w l uh. The correct spelling is c
- 12:21Speaker 1: a U l.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Thank.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Call fat is commonly used with sausages and meatballs as
- 12:30Speaker 1: a casing. Its job is to base the meat with
- 12:33Speaker 1: moisture as it cooks, to learn how to clean it
- 12:36Speaker 1: and cook it. Read Danielle Proveit's article on the Meat
- 12:38Speaker 1: eater dot com called the Total Guide to Call Fat.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Has anyone in this room cooked with call fat? What
- 12:45Speaker 1: do you do with it? Brody?
- 12:47Speaker 4: Usually I've only done a couple of times. I'll just
- 12:49Speaker 4: wrap a big chunk of backstrap in it.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Danielle.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Without in the field, like it is all that.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Very easy to like get it covered in dirt or grass, and.
- 13:00Speaker 6: It's it's difficult to clear juse if you're unfortunate in
- 13:03Speaker 6: your shot placement.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Question four. The topic is fishing. Fly Lord's Magazine declared
- 13:10Speaker 1: this National Park, which is in Tennessee and North Carolina,
- 13:14Speaker 1: one of the greatest parks for fly fishing in America.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Fly Lord's Magazine declared this National Park, which is in
- 13:24Speaker 1: Tennessee in North Carolina, one of the greatest parks for
- 13:28Speaker 1: fly fishing in America. We have a confident Brody and Keith.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'm not super confident, okay, quick to answer, I should
- 13:37Speaker 1: say Roman and Randall joined them. Randall, do you know
- 13:41Speaker 1: this one?
- 13:43Speaker 3: I do?
- 13:43Speaker 1: And how close were you coming up with? Call fat on?
- 13:47Speaker 1: That last one?
- 13:48Speaker 3: Just added an extra syllable.
- 13:51Speaker 1: All of a sudden, there's a little.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Extra bump in the middle that I didn't need, but
- 13:57Speaker 3: I was. I was dancing around it.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Instead came up with the tail fin.
- 14:02Speaker 3: And that's why I knew it was wrong when I
- 14:03Speaker 3: wrote it. Very I just the sound of it registered true.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Fly Lord's Magazine declared this National Park, which is in
- 14:12Speaker 1: Tennessee and North Carolina, one of the greatest parks for
- 14:15Speaker 1: fly fishing in America. This is question four.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Brody, you ready, Yeah, I'm just wondering if I need
- 14:28Speaker 4: to go?
- 14:29Speaker 1: Is everyone else ready?
- 14:30Speaker 3: Don't change it?
- 14:31Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Chester saying
- 14:35Speaker 1: Smoky Mountains, Romans saying great Smokeyes National Park keep saying
- 14:39Speaker 1: great Smokies, Alyssa's saying the Great Smoky Mountains, Chili saying
- 14:44Speaker 1: Smokey Mountains, Seth saying Great Smoky Mountains, Randall saying Great
- 14:48Speaker 1: Smoky Mountain, Brody saying Great Smoky Mountain. Decorrect answer is
- 14:53Speaker 1: Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I think everybody gets that one.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Would you accepted Smoky Mountain?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Well, yes, I think we. I think we will accept
- 15:04Speaker 1: because I'd added at the last second. Yeah, we'll give
- 15:07Speaker 1: it to you if you just said Smoky Mountains. But
- 15:10Speaker 1: the full answer is Great Smoky Mountains National Park. That
- 15:14Speaker 1: was a one hundred percent. We haven't had that in
- 15:16Speaker 1: a little bit. Great Smoky Mountains has three thousand miles
- 15:19Speaker 1: of streams where you can catch brook trout, rainbow trout,
- 15:22Speaker 1: brown trout, small mouth bass, and rock bass. The park
- 15:26Speaker 1: actually closed many of its brook trout fisheries starting in
- 15:29Speaker 1: the nineteen thirties, but when populations began to rebound, they
- 15:33Speaker 1: opened those waters up in two thousand and six. The
- 15:36Speaker 1: other parks on fly Lord's list, you guys want to
- 15:39Speaker 1: guess them. There were four other parks on their list
- 15:41Speaker 1: for the best fly fishing Parks in America Yellowstones, Yellowstone
- 15:46Speaker 1: is on there, Mountains Everglades, Everglades was on there, Rocky
- 15:49Speaker 1: Mountain was on there. So you're missing one. No, No,
- 15:55Speaker 1: something in Washington. Oh, you're on the right track there.
- 15:58Speaker 1: What's in Washington Olympic National Park? Last one? So the
- 16:04Speaker 1: total list was Great Smoky Mountains, Yellowstone, Olympic, Rocky Mountain,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and Everglades. Question five, the topic is conservation. Alaska's proposed
- 16:15Speaker 1: pebble mine would have been located on this notable watershed.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Randall and Brody appear to know it, Seth and Keith
- 16:27Speaker 1: joining them with answers. Alaska's proposed pebble mine would have
- 16:31Speaker 1: been located on this watershed. Do you think you have
- 16:36Speaker 1: it right? Did you have it right? Brody?
- 16:42Speaker 3: I hope so?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Okay. I saw some news this morning about the pebble mine.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Was we can talk about it when we're done. Alaska's
- 16:58Speaker 1: proposed pebble mine would have been located on this notable watershed.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Randal and your TRCP days, Did you guys work a
- 17:09Speaker 1: lot with the pebble mind? Topic.
- 17:11Speaker 3: We did indeed worked on that quite a bit.
- 17:18Speaker 1: This is question five. We'll get a scoreboard update from
- 17:21Speaker 1: Fill the engineer after this. It's everybody ready, go ahead
- 17:30Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Chester saying keen I
- 17:34Speaker 1: Roman without an answer, Keith saying Bristol Bay. Melyssa without
- 17:38Speaker 1: an answer, Chili without an answer, Seth and Randall and
- 17:43Speaker 1: Brody saying Bristol Bay. They got it. The correct answer
- 17:47Speaker 1: is Bristol Bay. What was your problem? Brodie with the word.
- 17:53Speaker 6: The watershed part of it, It's like the watershed is
- 17:58Speaker 6: like the fresh water up.
- 18:01Speaker 1: When you see it talked about. They always refer to
- 18:03Speaker 1: the Bristol Bay watershed.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I get where you're coming.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I thought you were going to want to say it
- 18:07Speaker 1: was like a salmon watershed or no, no, no no.
- 18:10Speaker 1: The Pebble mine deposit was discovered in the nineteen eighties.
- 18:13Speaker 1: The area is thought to be home to millions of
- 18:16Speaker 1: pounds of copper and gold that are worth an estimated
- 18:19Speaker 1: four hundred billion, but it's also where the world's largest
- 18:23Speaker 1: sakey salmon run takes place. A final determination was made
- 18:27Speaker 1: by the EPA last January that effectively blocked the mine
- 18:30Speaker 1: under the Clean Water Act. The update I saw this
- 18:33Speaker 1: morning was from Trout Unlimited, and I think they said
- 18:35Speaker 1: it was like another nail in the coffin, so further
- 18:39Speaker 1: killing the idea that the pebble mine will happen. Phil,
- 18:43Speaker 1: we're halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a
- 18:45Speaker 1: scoreboard update.
- 18:47Speaker 5: One of those games where everyone's on the board they've
- 18:50Speaker 5: got more than one point. Melissa has two, Roman, Chili
- 18:52Speaker 5: and Chester all have three points apiece, Randall, Keith and
- 18:56Speaker 5: Brody have four and with a perfect game it's Seth
- 19:00Speaker 5: Morris or is Stephen say?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Even Seth? Even set.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Should have been looking over your board there?
- 19:21Speaker 1: Question six, The topic is hunting. This next great question
- 19:25Speaker 1: is via Rocko Height. What two thousand and one Jeff
- 19:29Speaker 1: Daniels comedy is about Ruben Sodi and his Upper Peninsula
- 19:34Speaker 1: deer camp? Jet This may ruin the perfect game? The
- 19:42Speaker 1: topic is hunting? Is question six? What two thousand and
- 19:46Speaker 1: one Jeff Daniels comedy is about Ruben Sodi and his
- 19:50Speaker 1: Upper Peninsula deer camp? Keith, you know this one.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's a wild movie.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Okay, there's a hint for Seth. It's a wild movie.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Heath says, Randall, have you seen this movie?
- 20:06Speaker 3: I have not.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Phil. Have you seen this movie?
- 20:10Speaker 4: I have not, Phil.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I'd love for you to review this movie.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I also don't know.
- 20:16Speaker 3: I also don't know if I have it right, So
- 20:18Speaker 3: maybe I have seen it, but my answer is wrong.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Wow, Seth has yet to pick up his white lord.
- 20:22Speaker 4: I think I saw it, but I can't.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Why. Too bad for Seth. He's surrounded by folks who
- 20:29Speaker 1: appear to know it. Their whiteboards are down.
- 20:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna give you so much shit.
- 20:33Speaker 1: What two thousand and one Jeff Daniel's comedy is about
- 20:37Speaker 1: Ruben Sodi and his Upper Peninsula?
- 20:40Speaker 5: Dear, I just think you have to be a certain
- 20:41Speaker 5: level of mid Midwestern to appreciate the humor in.
- 20:44Speaker 1: This another h, Well, you said upper Peninsula.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Some of them, kid there goes.
- 20:52Speaker 3: The perfect games.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Chester doesn't know it either, and he's basically from the
- 20:56Speaker 1: Upper Peninsula. That's when I those ones. I'm definitely gonna
- 21:01Speaker 1: be kicking myself for I know it. I thought you'd
- 21:04Speaker 1: have some pushback on basically being from the Upper Peninsua.
- 21:07Speaker 5: Why hasn't Wisconsin just taken the Upper Peninsula?
- 21:10Speaker 4: The Upper got taken from Wisconsin, you guys should have
- 21:14Speaker 4: a war over.
- 21:14Speaker 1: There, Seth, are you going to come up with an answer?
- 21:21Speaker 1: Everybody right, don't want to perfect score anyways.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Chester's writing.
- 21:28Speaker 1: A lot of writing go ahead and familiar answers. We
- 21:34Speaker 1: have Chester saying the Great Outdoors roll without an answer,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Keith saying Escanaba in the Moonlight, Melissa sang the Big Lebowski.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Chili and Randall and Brody with the correct answer saying
- 21:49Speaker 1: Escanaba into moonlight Seth without an answer that ruins his
- 21:53Speaker 1: perfect game. Brody is prodding at Randall's whiteboard because he
- 21:58Speaker 1: had the instance that duh.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I would point out that Chili had the as well.
- 22:04Speaker 3: It happens to be his instagram. I'm just going by
- 22:08Speaker 3: Chili's instagram.
- 22:09Speaker 4: I'm just going for like the vernacular.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Esca and the Moonlight follows a family on the eve
- 22:17Speaker 1: of deer hunting season that must deal with the eldest
- 22:20Speaker 1: son's curse of never having begged buck. It was written by,
- 22:25Speaker 1: directed by, and starring Jeff Daniels. The movie received a
- 22:28Speaker 1: seventy nine percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is
- 22:32Speaker 1: similar to Grumpy Old Men, and it received a fifty
- 22:34Speaker 1: percent critics score, which is similar to ace Ventura pet.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Detective must be good.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Question seven. The topic is natural history. This next great
- 22:46Speaker 1: question is via Stephen Irwin, what were Lewis and Clark's
- 22:51Speaker 1: first names? What were Lewis and Clark's first names? The
- 23:01Speaker 1: confident looking room. Seems like most of them would come
- 23:03Speaker 1: up with one answer by now. Randall has both his
- 23:07Speaker 1: whiteboard is down. Chester looks like Chester, Roman and Keith
- 23:13Speaker 1: seemed to be stuck on what the second name is
- 23:18Speaker 1: for Lewis and Clark? What were Lewis and Clark's first names?
- 23:26Speaker 1: Surprising upset Here Brody has his whiteboard pressed against his temple.
- 23:31Speaker 1: He doesn't doesn't look confident. Confident one confident in one
- 23:39Speaker 1: of them. I think that's where seven of our players
- 23:42Speaker 1: are right now, except for Randall.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Ran got circus elephant.
- 23:48Speaker 1: He's got perfect posture over here. I'm very proud.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Trying to maintain perfect posture. But as the viewers will
- 23:54Speaker 3: certainly notice, I think my head has moved around in
- 23:57Speaker 3: this plane during the course of the past ten minutes.
- 24:01Speaker 1: No, we're doing half points for this one, right, No,
- 24:05Speaker 1: unless you're my wife. She earns half points in these
- 24:09Speaker 1: What were Lewis and Clark's first names. Chester, you got
- 24:17Speaker 1: one of them? Maybe you know? I think so. But okay,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I'm not very good at this game.
- 24:24Speaker 3: So oh god, I just read on Daunting Courage too.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Mmmm wow. What were Lewis and Clark's first names? Brody?
- 24:38Speaker 1: Do you think you have it?
- 24:39Speaker 5: Now?
- 24:40Speaker 4: I think I'm wrong on one.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Brody thinks he might be wrong. Is everybody ready? Keith?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Do you have these right?
- 24:52Speaker 2: I think I got one, maybe the second one.
- 24:55Speaker 1: We're loising before we go.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Do these got to be in the right order, Spender.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't have to be in the right order. Whatever
- 25:01Speaker 1: order you put them in, it would be so weird.
- 25:07Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 25:09Speaker 3: I feel like that would be like someone getting it wrong. No,
- 25:13Speaker 3: I just.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Think's everybody ready?
- 25:19Speaker 3: Sure?
- 25:21Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have chests. Not
- 25:24Speaker 1: gonna show his wife or Roman sang Merriweather and John,
- 25:29Speaker 1: Keith saying mery Weather and William Elyssa without an answer,
- 25:33Speaker 1: Chili saying Merriweather, and Raymond Seth saying Merriweather, Randall saying
- 25:39Speaker 1: Merriweather and William. Brody saying Merriweather and John. The correct
- 25:44Speaker 1: answers are Merryweather and William, So we had I think
- 25:47Speaker 1: two folks, get that right, Randall and Keith. Merriweather means
- 25:53Speaker 1: happy weather and it's supposed to be given to someone
- 25:56Speaker 1: with a sunny temperament. William means resolute detector and is
- 26:00Speaker 1: supposed to be for someone who is a defender of
- 26:03Speaker 1: the vulnerable. William is the sixth most popular boy name
- 26:07Speaker 1: in America today, with Merriweather being ranked number twenty three thousand,
- 26:12Speaker 1: one hundred and forty one. I think we should bring
- 26:14Speaker 1: that name back.
- 26:15Speaker 3: It's a rather ironic, ironic name given his disposition. Yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 3: and has ultimately.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Killed himself, but it's supposed to be for someone who
- 26:24Speaker 1: has a sunny temperament.
- 26:25Speaker 4: What do you got.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Melancholia as Merriweather Lewis and William Clark.
- 26:31Speaker 1: That's right, Merriweather Lewis and William Clark. Oh, that was
- 26:36Speaker 1: question seven. Question eight. The topic is conservation. This colorful fish,
- 26:42Speaker 1: which is native to the Amazon, was introduced to Miami
- 26:45Speaker 1: waterways in nineteen eighty four. This colorful fish, which is
- 26:52Speaker 1: native to the Amazon, is introduced to Miami waterways in
- 26:55Speaker 1: nineteen eighty four. Brody Randall, Seth Chestern Key All appeared.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I think I know it.
- 27:02Speaker 3: I think I have this right. But I'm guessing there
- 27:04Speaker 3: are probably dozens of fish that fit this description.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Though in nineteen eighty four. Well yeah, and were they
- 27:12Speaker 1: specifically introduced to Miami.
- 27:15Speaker 3: I can't prove it otherwise.
- 27:18Speaker 1: And are they colorful?
- 27:20Speaker 3: A lot of it came from the Amazon, A lot
- 27:22Speaker 3: of qualifiers wrong. If you're an expert out there on
- 27:28Speaker 3: the h.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, please write to trip at the medi dot com.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Of Miami's waterways in nineteen eighty four, would like.
- 27:34Speaker 1: To hear from you if you can name two colorful
- 27:36Speaker 1: fish from the Amazon.
- 27:38Speaker 3: I think I actually said dozens, so there's a much
- 27:41Speaker 3: higher threshold and.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Clear what colorful fish they're This colorful fish, which is
- 27:47Speaker 1: native to the Amazon, was introduced to Miami waterways in
- 27:51Speaker 1: nineteen eighty four. Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal
- 27:56Speaker 1: your answers. We have Chesters saying peacock bass to Roman
- 28:00Speaker 1: without an answer, Keith saying peacock bass, Alsa saying clownfish
- 28:05Speaker 1: Chile without an answer, Seth and Randall and Brody saying
- 28:10Speaker 1: peacock bass. They got it. The correct answer is peacock bass.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Peacock bass were stocked in South Florida waterways by the
- 28:18Speaker 1: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Their goal was to
- 28:23Speaker 1: use the peacock bass to control growing populations of exotic
- 28:27Speaker 1: fish such as such as tilapia and oscar. The experiment
- 28:31Speaker 1: worked in the state now manages peacock bass as a gamefish.
- 28:35Speaker 1: You're allowed to keep two per day, which is three
- 28:38Speaker 1: less than the limit on largemouth bass.
- 28:40Speaker 6: You're saying that it worked like they were control non
- 28:45Speaker 6: native invasives.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Piece. They deemed it to be a successful experiment. They
- 28:48Speaker 1: were very satisfied with the results, and they had a
- 28:50Speaker 1: ten year study leading up to it before they came
- 28:53Speaker 1: to the determination that they should stock peacock bass. Yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 1: using one exotic to control ten other exotics. Phil, we
- 29:02Speaker 1: have two questions left. Who remains in the game.
- 29:06Speaker 5: Alyssa, Roman, Chili and Chester cannot win this game of
- 29:09Speaker 5: meat eater trivia, but Seth and Brody have six points
- 29:13Speaker 5: and Randal and Keith are tied up in first place
- 29:15Speaker 5: with seven.
- 29:17Speaker 1: All right, Question nine. The topic is cooking. This five
- 29:23Speaker 1: letter plural noun is a Spanish word defined as quote
- 29:27Speaker 1: shared small plates of food. This five letter plural noun
- 29:34Speaker 1: is a Spanish word defined as shared small plates of food.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Keith and Randall seem to know it is going to
- 29:44Speaker 1: keep them locked up in first place. Going into question ten,
- 29:48Speaker 1: This five letter plural noun is a Spanish word defined
- 29:51Speaker 1: is shared small plates of food, quiet game.
- 30:02Speaker 3: I'm thinking about caudal fat.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Seth? Do you know this one? Shared small plates of food? Chester?
- 30:15Speaker 1: How about you? You got this one right? I think so?
- 30:18Speaker 1: It's everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 30:23Speaker 1: have Chester saying tapas Roman without an answer, Keith saying
- 30:29Speaker 1: and Alyssa, and Randall and Brody saying tapas seth. What
- 30:35Speaker 1: do you say? Say chili without an answer? The correct
- 30:39Speaker 1: answer was Tapa's. According to Food and Wine Magazine, tapas
- 30:43Speaker 1: are essentially appetizers served alongside beer or wine, and can
- 30:48Speaker 1: be everything from olives to meatballs to shrimp. Danielle Pruitt
- 30:52Speaker 1: says her favorite tapas are Spanish turkey and date skewers
- 30:56Speaker 1: a recipe you can get on the meat eater dot com.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Question we have Randall and Keith tied up in first place,
- 31:04Speaker 1: and who's right behind them?
- 31:05Speaker 5: Phil Brody has seven Brody.
- 31:07Speaker 1: With seven topic is fishing. This is our listener question
- 31:11Speaker 1: of the Week, which was won by Ryder Leary for
- 31:14Speaker 1: sending this great question. Ryder is going to get a
- 31:16Speaker 1: board game signed by the crew. If you want a
- 31:19Speaker 1: chance to win our listener question of the week, then
- 31:21Speaker 1: send your question to trivia at the medeater dot com.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Randall is staring at the screen waiting for the question
- 31:27Speaker 1: to show up. Here it is. This bass lure with
- 31:30Speaker 1: a rhyming name has a hard plastic spook style body
- 31:35Speaker 1: with a rotating propeller. His question ten. Brody knows it.
- 31:43Speaker 1: He has emphatically closed his marker and thrown down his whiteboard.
- 31:47Speaker 1: This could tie him up with Keith and Randall if
- 31:50Speaker 1: they don't get this right. This bass lure with a
- 31:54Speaker 1: rhyming name has a hard plastic spook style body with
- 31:58Speaker 1: a rotating propeller. Chester. Do you know this one again?
- 32:04Speaker 1: I think so? Okay, you got the name rhymes that
- 32:07Speaker 1: you have there, Brody, you know this one for certain?
- 32:12Speaker 4: We're gonna find out.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Okay. He's got a smile on his face. I think
- 32:18Speaker 1: Brody has its. Randall and Keith.
- 32:19Speaker 4: If I don't, I hope Keith does.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Have not wrote anything down yet. Mhm. This bast lure
- 32:29Speaker 1: with a rhyming name has a hardy spook style body
- 32:33Speaker 1: with a rotating propeller. You think you'd have an answer
- 32:36Speaker 1: if it didn't have to rhyme.
- 32:37Speaker 3: I can I can picture, Okay, a hard plastic bait.
- 32:45Speaker 1: Chester, do you think you have one of these in
- 32:47Speaker 1: your tackle box? Without giving him way too many hints, No, Okay,
- 32:53Speaker 1: Montana have in the past. Oh do you think Seth
- 32:56Speaker 1: has has one of these in his tackle box?
- 32:59Speaker 2: No?
- 33:00Speaker 5: Might I have in the past, I just can't remember.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say, per capita, Montana has to be
- 33:09Speaker 1: one of the least likely states to have one of these.
- 33:13Speaker 3: I might actually have one of these.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Pike would eat it though.
- 33:17Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Keith, did you.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Come up with an answer?
- 33:19Speaker 2: I got an answer?
- 33:21Speaker 1: Does it rhyme? You know, We've had questions like this
- 33:24Speaker 1: in the past where I've been inspired by some of
- 33:27Speaker 1: the names people came up with that we should we
- 33:29Speaker 1: need to create some lures that have these names. Uh
- 33:32Speaker 1: so I have high expectations, Keith, your fictional lure, Randall,
- 33:38Speaker 1: give it over here.
- 33:40Speaker 3: No, I mean.
- 33:44Speaker 5: It's it's creative.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Oh no, I don't know.
- 33:48Speaker 4: I don't I can't think of it.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Chester says, hold on trying to think
- 33:57Speaker 1: of what used to be in this tackle box?
- 34:02Speaker 5: Does everyone? Does anyone ever write in being like these
- 34:05Speaker 5: idiots can't spell?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Well? There was a lot of folks wanted me to
- 34:11Speaker 1: be uh a hard ass about the stalagmite stalag tighte question.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Oh you know, I remember that, and it wouldn't have
- 34:20Speaker 1: mattered because everyone had the same everyone. Oh wow, Seth.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Did just.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Wow.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I think we're out of time. Go ahead and revene.
- 34:36Speaker 1: But we have Chester saying wopper plopper Roman without an answer,
- 34:40Speaker 1: Keith saying the rad schad, which I think is actually
- 34:44Speaker 1: a soft plastic maybe made by Berkeley. It's like a
- 34:48Speaker 1: paddle tail, So I think the rad chad might exist.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Alyssa sang chopper bopper Chili without an answer, Seth saying
- 34:56Speaker 1: whopper plopper, Randall's saying Papa Choppa, Brody saying wopper plopper.
- 35:03Speaker 1: The correct answer is whopper plopper Brody got it right.
- 35:07Speaker 1: That means we're going to a three way tiebreaker with
- 35:10Speaker 1: Randall and Keith. Whopper ploppers are a floating lure that
- 35:15Speaker 1: creates a bubble trail wind retrieved. They blew up in
- 35:19Speaker 1: popularity after a twenty sixteen bass Master Elite Series event
- 35:23Speaker 1: in Toledo Bend, when Chris Lane nearly won the tournament
- 35:27Speaker 1: using the unique lure. Despite its recent popularity, the Whopper
- 35:30Speaker 1: Popper has been around for about one hundred years, with
- 35:33Speaker 1: the first version being a muskie lure called the mud Puppy.
- 35:38Speaker 1: We're going to overtime play the drop Phil type last.
- 35:46Speaker 5: How they just cut it at if you ain't first
- 35:48Speaker 5: your last and then like going to other stuff.
- 35:50Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I never liked it a Phil cough Man. The tie
- 35:55Speaker 1: breaking topic is cooking. This will be a numerical question
- 35:58Speaker 1: to whoever is a close is between Keith Randall and
- 36:02Speaker 1: Brody will be declared today's winner. According to a twenty
- 36:06Speaker 1: twenty three Gallup pole, what percentage of Americans identify as vegetarian?
- 36:13Speaker 4: Decimal point right.
- 36:14Speaker 1: To a decimal point, so we have a for sure winner.
- 36:19Speaker 1: According to a twenty twenty three Gallup pole, what percentage
- 36:23Speaker 1: of Americans identify as vegetarian. Everyone should play along, though, Chile,
- 36:31Speaker 1: in case someone hits it right on the nose, We're
- 36:33Speaker 1: going to add an extra one hundred dollars to today's
- 36:37Speaker 1: to the decimal point. What percentage of Americans identify as vegetarian.
- 36:43Speaker 7: I feel like this is gonna be a real tight
- 36:45Speaker 7: one now, Phil, before someone writes in with an IFAQ
- 36:49Speaker 7: about the tie breaking sound What movie clip is that
- 36:53Speaker 7: sound bite pulled from?
- 36:58Speaker 5: I'm trying, well, they're well, there's there's the VALADERICKI, Bobby
- 37:02Speaker 5: Talladegan Knights. It used to go on longer, and then
- 37:05Speaker 5: Steve complained about it, and I put Steve complaining about
- 37:08Speaker 5: it into the drop.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Very good. Yes, what percentage of Americans identify is vegetarian
- 37:15Speaker 1: as of twenty twenty three?
- 37:19Speaker 3: Vegetarian as an all encompassing.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Term, as in they said, are you a vegetarian? Are
- 37:25Speaker 1: you a pescatarian? Are you omnivore?
- 37:29Speaker 3: Are yous would be separate from vegetarian?
- 37:32Speaker 1: I think that would be separate in Oh geez.
- 37:35Speaker 3: That makes it real.
- 37:36Speaker 4: That's weird. You think they would be part of vegetarian?
- 37:42Speaker 1: What percentage of Americans identify as a vegetarian? Wow? And
- 37:47Speaker 1: a pug grunt the cap it all off.
- 37:50Speaker 2: She's impressed with this one.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 37:58Speaker 1: chest you're saying ten point four percent, Roman saying thirteen
- 38:02Speaker 1: point four percent. Alyssa saying twenty three point seven percent,
- 38:06Speaker 1: Chili saying thirty three point six percent, Seth saying eight
- 38:11Speaker 1: point seven percent. In our three players remaining in the game,
- 38:14Speaker 1: Keith saying eleven point two, Randall saying fourteen point six,
- 38:19Speaker 1: Brody saying thirteen point nine. The correct answer is four percent,
- 38:26Speaker 1: making Keith our winner. He was seven point two percentage
- 38:31Speaker 1: points off. Four percent of Americans identify as vegetarian. That's
- 38:36Speaker 1: down from five percent in twenty twelve and six percent
- 38:40Speaker 1: in two thousand and one. Keith, well done, winner of
- 38:44Speaker 1: today's trivia. Now you get to make a five hundred
- 38:47Speaker 1: dollars donation. Where's that five hundred dollars going to go?
- 38:51Speaker 2: I hate to kind of be bland with it, but
- 38:53Speaker 2: the land Access initiative we do here's one of my
- 38:56Speaker 2: favorite things, so I'd love to just see it go
- 38:58Speaker 2: that direction.
- 38:58Speaker 1: There we go, the Meat Eater AI. We just wrapped
- 39:01Speaker 1: up our auction house of oddities. I think we were
- 39:03Speaker 1: hoping to make thirty thousand dollars in that and instead
- 39:06Speaker 1: we doubled it and made sixty thousand dollars. That's going
- 39:09Speaker 1: to get spent pretty quickly. So Keith is starting over
- 39:12Speaker 1: with another five hundred dollars going to the Lai. Well done, Keith.
- 39:16Speaker 1: He played at the Meat Eater Store and came in
- 39:19Speaker 1: second to Steve. I believe right, Yeah, the first light Store,
- 39:24Speaker 1: the first light Store. I'm sorry. Yeah, everyone was cheering
- 39:27Speaker 1: for Keith that game. It didn't happen. Brody was cheering
- 39:30Speaker 1: for Keith this game.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Until I got the time.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Here he is in the winner circle. Well done, Keith. Guys,
- 39:36Speaker 1: join us next time for more Meat Eater Trivia, the
