Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Gwen is here from the Humane Society and she's brought
- 0:04Speaker 1: with her. What's what's the cat's named.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Her name is.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Ginger, and Ginger is. We normally like to show you
- 0:13Speaker 1: the animal, but she's a little shy.
- 0:16Speaker 3: If you go to the radio from Hell or my instagram,
- 0:21Speaker 3: Katie took a little real video you can see of Ginger.
- 0:24Speaker 1: There, Ginger is. It makes me kind of sad. She's
- 0:30Speaker 1: all hunched up in there, like, oh, curled up. And
- 0:33Speaker 1: you said Ginger is normally very outgoing.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah, So yesterday we spent a little time with her
- 0:39Speaker 2: and she was sitting in my lap. She didn't mind
- 0:41Speaker 2: being held. But you know, sometimes cats don't love to travel,
- 0:45Speaker 2: and you don't know until you get him in a car.
- 0:47Speaker 2: So she is being a little camera shy this morning.
- 0:51Speaker 1: She's traumatized by the car ride.
- 0:52Speaker 3: She she needs a home with somebody's lap she can
- 0:55Speaker 3: sit on all the time. That's what we're looking for
- 0:57Speaker 3: for Ginger.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Ginger is an orange cat, and you were saying that's
- 1:01Speaker 1: rare for a female.
- 1:03Speaker 2: It is rare. So most orange cats, orange tabbies are males.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I have I have Klaus's orange tabby.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and she's got like a longer, slightly puffier orange
- 1:14Speaker 2: tabby coat. She's about I think she was like ten
- 1:18Speaker 2: or eleven pounds right in between there. So she's a
- 1:20Speaker 2: decent sized kitty. She's eight years old. She previously lived
- 1:24Speaker 2: with kids and did well with them. She can coexist
- 1:28Speaker 2: with other cats in the home. What we did learn
- 1:31Speaker 2: is she is not a fan of automatic litter boxes.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Oh really, so you know, robots aren't her thing.
- 1:37Speaker 1: She's old school. I'm with her. I just need a
- 1:41Speaker 1: pile of dirt and so so. Ginger, how long has
- 1:46Speaker 1: she been with you?
- 1:47Speaker 2: You know, she hasn't been with us too long, about
- 1:50Speaker 2: a week or so. So you know, we'd love to
- 1:53Speaker 2: get her out quickly. She is on a special diet.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We have done all the blood work. We'll send you
- 1:59Speaker 2: with the prescription that you need, and will actually send
- 2:02Speaker 2: you home with some of the food as well to
- 2:05Speaker 2: get you started.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Prescription is for the food.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's for urinary a specialized diet for urinary stuff. So,
- 2:12Speaker 2: and you know that happens sometimes when cats get older.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It's not a big deal. It's really not that much
- 2:17Speaker 2: more expensive. And you know, sometimes people worry about having
- 2:21Speaker 2: to go to the vet to get those prescriptions. But
- 2:23Speaker 2: one of the things we offer at the Humane Society
- 2:25Speaker 2: of Utah now in our clinics is wellness visits and
- 2:28Speaker 2: exam and so you can get her blood work done
- 2:31Speaker 2: there each year, and it's significantly less expensive than going
- 2:35Speaker 2: to a regular full service veterinarian. So you know, when
- 2:40Speaker 2: you need to take her in to get her vaccines,
- 2:41Speaker 2: you could get that wellness appointment scheduled as well and
- 2:44Speaker 2: make sure you keep up on that prescription.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Ginger is a lovely cat, I can tell, but it
- 2:50Speaker 1: just makes me feel sad that she thought's are traumatized
- 2:53Speaker 1: by the car ride.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, she know. She just wants a couch and maybe
- 2:56Speaker 2: a couple little feather toys. She was a big fan
- 2:58Speaker 2: of the wand feather toys. So but just you know,
- 3:01Speaker 2: she'd be a great cat just to have to lounge
- 3:03Speaker 2: around with you while you're watching TV or yeah, you
- 3:05Speaker 2: need a TV buddy this.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And Ginger is has chip micro chipped and all of that.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so she has Spade vaccinated, microchipped. Like we said,
- 3:14Speaker 2: we'll send her home with a prescription and some diet
- 3:17Speaker 2: some of the food to get you started as well.
- 3:19Speaker 2: So she is really all set to go in her
- 3:21Speaker 2: adoption FeAs name your own price. So yeah, maybe want
- 3:28Speaker 2: Ginger to get get a home.
- 3:29Speaker 1: That's yeah, and and and and it wouldn't hurt to
- 3:32Speaker 1: make a nice donation to the Humane Society when you
- 3:35Speaker 1: come and take Ginger home.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we always appreciate any help. You know, we are
- 3:42Speaker 2: a nonprofit. We received no government or federal funding or
- 3:45Speaker 2: national organization funding, so any little bit helps us take
- 3:49Speaker 2: care of these animals.
- 3:50Speaker 1: If now people want to see Ginger or the other
- 3:54Speaker 1: there are. How many other cats do you have right now? Oh?
- 3:57Speaker 2: Gosh, you know, we do usually have quite a few cats.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I bet we have at least like a dozen listed
- 4:03Speaker 2: on our website right now. We're moving cats up every day.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Cats have actually become more popular as pats in the
- 4:09Speaker 2: last couple of years, so they do move through our
- 4:12Speaker 2: shelter pretty quickly, especially kittens. They'll fly out the door
- 4:16Speaker 2: usually with them like a day. You have kittens right
- 4:19Speaker 2: now currently not right now. Kitten season what we like
- 4:23Speaker 2: to call in animal shelters, when they you know, start
- 4:26Speaker 2: having babies all out in the community and they start
- 4:28Speaker 2: being brought to us, is usually around like April May Well,
- 4:32Speaker 2: they'll get brought to us a little earlier, but they're
- 4:34Speaker 2: not old enough to be adopted yet. So kittens really
- 4:37Speaker 2: start showing up in shelters, you know, late spring, early summer,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and we call it kitten season because we get inundated
- 4:44Speaker 2: and need all the supplies and extra help we can
- 4:47Speaker 2: get to care for a mom.
- 4:47Speaker 1: So if you want to see what animals, if maybe
- 4:51Speaker 1: you're interested in a dog, that's fine too. You can
- 4:54Speaker 1: go to the Humane Society website and there's a there's
- 4:56Speaker 1: a rogues gallery of a lot of the air looking
- 4:58Speaker 1: at them right now.
- 5:00Speaker 3: It's Utah Humane dot org. And you know, maybe you
- 5:03Speaker 3: can't adopt right now, there's a big purple donate button. Seriously,
- 5:08Speaker 3: if you're an animal lover but you're not in a
- 5:10Speaker 3: position to adopt right now, maybe maybe think about just donating.
- 5:15Speaker 1: But also think of this, what's one more cat in here?
- 5:19Speaker 1: Come on, what is just one more cat?
- 5:21Speaker 2: You know, we really don't consider your crazy cat lady
- 5:23Speaker 2: until you get like five or Yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Jimmy John says, her age is when they start wanting
- 5:28Speaker 1: to hang out with you all the time and sit
- 5:30Speaker 1: on laps, So that's good. Yeah, And someone else says,
- 5:33Speaker 1: adopting a senior cat was the best decision I ever made.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Oh nice. Yeah, Klaus has matured into you know, he
- 5:40Speaker 1: was we just had him as a foster and then
- 5:42Speaker 1: we just kind of liked him and kept him and
- 5:45Speaker 1: he's really matured now. Now he just wants to lay there,
- 5:48Speaker 1: you know, just I'm just going to lay around. That's
- 5:51Speaker 1: pat me a little bit, will you, Okay, Okay, that's good,
- 5:53Speaker 1: thank you. So Ginger is available. Now, let's have Ginger
- 5:59Speaker 1: adopted by the end of the day. Let's do it.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So just go to Utah Humane dot org. And if
- 6:05Speaker 1: you missed your chance at Ginger, there are others there. Yep.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm looking at a bunch of them. And also, you
- 6:10Speaker 1: guys need volunteers from time to time.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, volunteers, fosters. You can read all about that on
- 6:15Speaker 2: our website. And again, you know, if Ginger gets adopted
- 6:18Speaker 2: or you're looking for another animal, our website updates every
- 6:21Speaker 2: thirty minutes, and we do move animals up every day,
- 6:24Speaker 2: sometimes a few times a day, so it's really changing
- 6:27Speaker 2: all the time.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I let us know if Ginger recovers from her car
- 6:31Speaker 1: ride back to them.
- 6:33Speaker 2: We'll be sure to spoiler when she gets back.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Okay, all right Thanks gnright.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Oh.
- 6:45Speaker 1: If it does, should be adopted right now.
