- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:10Speaker 2: We're almost there.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We are one week away from the twenty twenty three
- 0:23Speaker 1: NFL Draft in Kansas City. We today are in Los Angeles,
- 0:26Speaker 1: as we always are for NFL Now. Welcome to a
- 0:28Speaker 1: Thursday edition presented to you by IKIA. Coming up, we
- 0:31Speaker 1: have pre draft press conferences with the Giants and the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Jaguars would be first round pick Alabama dB Brian Branches
- 0:39Speaker 1: here and Maurice Jones.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Drew has his.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Different mock draft, one that has a quarterback not named
- 0:48Speaker 1: Bryce Young going number one and Bryce Young somehow ending
- 0:51Speaker 1: up in Indianapolis. We'll explain that mock draft coming up shortly.
- 0:55Speaker 1: We begin this hour with news of a quarterback visiting
- 0:59Speaker 1: a team and these are always interesting because remember as
- 1:02Speaker 1: we have the whole gang here, Ian Rapaport, Tom Pellis, Oh,
- 1:05Speaker 1: Mike Arafolo. Yesterday was the last day for official visits
- 1:10Speaker 1: to team facilities in the Patriots are picking fourteen who
- 1:14Speaker 1: they have in.
- 1:17Speaker 3: The Patriots. On the last day the teams could have
- 1:19Speaker 3: top thirty visits. The last day they could get prospects
- 1:22Speaker 3: into their facility hosted Kentucky quarterback Will Levis kind of
- 1:26Speaker 3: an interesting one for the Patriots snuck it right in
- 1:29Speaker 3: before the buzzer. Levis obviously has been well traveled to Curtinally,
- 1:32Speaker 3: one of the top four quarterbacks in this draft, has
- 1:35Speaker 3: visited several teams, including the Raiders, including the Panthers, including
- 1:39Speaker 3: the Texans, but also some other ones, the Bucks, the
- 1:41Speaker 3: Falcons among them.
- 1:43Speaker 2: For Will Levis, the.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Patriots, though I think probably threw most people for a loop.
- 1:47Speaker 3: They picked fourteen. They have mac Jones in as their starto,
- 1:50Speaker 3: though Bill Belichick, despite several opportunities, has not definitively said it.
- 1:54Speaker 3: The Patriots always do due diligence, and certainly there have
- 1:57Speaker 3: been times and Andrew you mentioned on Twitter when the
- 2:00Speaker 3: Patriots have just wanted a top quarterback in there just
- 2:02Speaker 3: to see Baker Mayfield the one that comes to mind.
- 2:06Speaker 3: But at least visiting with Will Levis is interesting for
- 2:09Speaker 3: New England to.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Do, and in speaking with some teams that have met
- 2:12Speaker 4: with Will Levis, he is, how do I put this,
- 2:15Speaker 4: not lacking for confidence, and that tends to rub people
- 2:19Speaker 4: the wrong way sometimes, but there are other folks who
- 2:22Speaker 4: say that's how I want my quarterback to be. I
- 2:24Speaker 4: want him to be sure of himself. I want him
- 2:27Speaker 4: to be outspoken when he needs to be outspoken, and listen,
- 2:31Speaker 4: we've seen that. I think before the combine he talked
- 2:33Speaker 4: about his arm and how he wanted to show it
- 2:35Speaker 4: off for everybody. I mean, you know what kind of
- 2:37Speaker 4: personality you're getting with Will Levis. So I wish I
- 2:41Speaker 4: could take an honest tally of all these visits and
- 2:43Speaker 4: say how many of these were positive, how many responded
- 2:46Speaker 4: well to that kind of energy, and how many did
- 2:48Speaker 4: not respond as well. And I'd be curious to know
- 2:52Speaker 4: how he responded or how the Patriots responded to it.
- 2:55Speaker 4: But Will Levis not short on pre draft visits. He's
- 2:59Speaker 4: going to be a fascinating to one one to watch
- 3:02Speaker 4: on draft night.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Andrew and again, the Patriots a couple of years ago
- 3:04Speaker 1: took Mac Jones fifteen. Here they're picking fourteen.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Ian.
- 3:07Speaker 2: You mentioned Baker Mayfield.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I pointed out this morning that yes, in twenty eighteen,
- 3:10Speaker 1: right before the draft, they tried to get something I
- 3:13Speaker 1: head to a face to face meeting with Baker Mayfield.
- 3:15Speaker 1: They were picking twenty three and thirty one. Obviously Mayfield
- 3:18Speaker 1: went one, but maybe they could have made a move
- 3:20Speaker 1: up anyway, didn't happen. We are a week away as
- 3:23Speaker 1: we try to make sense of these meetings and try
- 3:25Speaker 1: to make sense tom of what we hear on the podium.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The Seahawks did their thing yesterday, Schneider and Carol, they
- 3:31Speaker 1: have two picks five and twenty. What about the possibility
- 3:34Speaker 1: of a trade.
- 3:35Speaker 6: There, Well, Seahawks General manager John Schneider said that, really
- 3:41Speaker 6: you just have preliminary conversations at this point, and things
- 3:44Speaker 6: tend to heat up come next Tuesday or Wednesday. Well,
- 3:47Speaker 6: if you're an NFL general manager and you're just going
- 3:49Speaker 6: off of history the short list of gms, you're probably
- 3:52Speaker 6: calling because they might be willing to trade with you.
- 3:54Speaker 6: It's basically Howie Roseman, It's Bill Belichick, and it is
- 3:58Speaker 6: John Schneider, who has made a ton of draft trades,
- 4:00Speaker 6: both up and in notable cases down through the course
- 4:04Speaker 6: of his more than a day decade in charge in Seattle.
- 4:07Speaker 6: Here they're at an interesting spot right now at number five,
- 4:10Speaker 6: because you just don't know exactly how the board is
- 4:12Speaker 6: going to break in terms of do four quarterbacks come
- 4:15Speaker 6: off in the first four picks. That seems unlikely, but
- 4:18Speaker 6: we've seen runs on quarterbacks high in the draft before
- 4:20Speaker 6: do those defensive players start to go, and in those cases,
- 4:23Speaker 6: maybe somebody wants to tramp to five to get one
- 4:26Speaker 6: of the quarterbacks. It was notable they had Will Anderson
- 4:28Speaker 6: Junior in yesterday on the last day for pre draft visits.
- 4:31Speaker 6: That was one that was set up kind of late
- 4:33Speaker 6: in the process and as an indication there's a lot
- 4:35Speaker 6: of different scenarios here, so why not bring in one
- 4:38Speaker 6: of the premier defensive players in the whole draft.
- 4:41Speaker 4: This is uncharted territory for the Seahawks to be up
- 4:43Speaker 4: this high, which is why they took the opportunity to
- 4:45Speaker 4: meet with all those quarterbacks at their pro days. They
- 4:48Speaker 4: certainly got out and did the travel thing to get
- 4:51Speaker 4: there for those. But yeah, it does sound like trading
- 4:54Speaker 4: back would be an option or top option for John
- 4:57Speaker 4: Schneider if he can get this one done. Tom and
- 4:59Speaker 4: I did look this up, Andrew, because I referenced it
- 5:01Speaker 4: on air. I believe it was yesterday the Malik McDowell
- 5:05Speaker 4: left John Schneider and the Seahawks traded back three times
- 5:09Speaker 4: before they eventually took Malik McDowell.
- 5:11Speaker 7: They love to pick up that.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Extra draft capital as they move back, So John Schneider
- 5:16Speaker 4: certainly hoping things fall a certain way. If it's maybe
- 5:20Speaker 4: two quarterbacks by the time the first four go I know,
- 5:22Speaker 4: time you mentioned four in a row. If it's two quarterbacks,
- 5:25Speaker 4: then he's sitting pretty because then if somebody wants the third,
- 5:28Speaker 4: that five spot is going to be an entry point potentially.
- 5:30Speaker 4: So this is going to be an on the clock
- 5:32Speaker 4: thing for John Schneider and the Seahawks if they slide back.
- 5:35Speaker 2: As it is.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I think every year, Hey, Lakwan, can we look it up?
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think it's ten out of the last eleven years
- 5:40Speaker 1: there's been like a first round trade for John Schneider
- 5:42Speaker 1: or a first a Night one trade for John Schneider, which.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Is just ridiculous.
- 5:47Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the Commanders as their sale
- 5:50Speaker 1: is kind of hanging the balance here. Ian they are
- 5:52Speaker 1: picking sixteen, and they do have Sam Howell. We still
- 5:58Speaker 1: do go into this draft with the team Ron Rivera
- 6:02Speaker 1: and Sam Howel, Jacoby Brissett there as well, believing that
- 6:05Speaker 1: he has a chance here to win this job.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and Sam Howell talked to reporters recently and essentially
- 6:12Speaker 3: said he loves the feel of the organization, loves the
- 6:15Speaker 3: direction that they are going and that they are going
- 6:17Speaker 3: to get absolutely everything he can. Now Sam Howe's we've
- 6:20Speaker 3: seen very very limited fashion on the field of though,
- 6:23Speaker 3: as Ron Rivera pointed out during the owners meetings, about
- 6:26Speaker 3: a month ago or whatever that was, seems like a
- 6:28Speaker 3: million years ago. If they had done the draft of
- 6:31Speaker 3: year earlier, Sam Howe probably would have been a first
- 6:33Speaker 3: round pick. Certainly that was where his pedigree was. They
- 6:36Speaker 3: really liked the talent, They like what he has done
- 6:38Speaker 3: on the field in a very short short time of
- 6:42Speaker 3: limited snaps.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So we will see if he's the starter.
- 6:45Speaker 3: All of this under the backdrop of what if the
- 6:48Speaker 3: Commanders kind of go off the board a little bit
- 6:50Speaker 3: and take a quarterback they have visited with some I
- 6:53Speaker 3: wouldn't rule.
- 6:54Speaker 5: That out at all.
- 6:54Speaker 3: So Sam Howell, yes, as the likely starter. But let's
- 6:57Speaker 3: see what happens Thursday.
- 7:01Speaker 6: And the question with Hendon Hooker, who visited the Commanders
- 7:04Speaker 6: yesterday going to be does somebody want to take him
- 7:08Speaker 6: in the first round to get that fifty year option,
- 7:10Speaker 6: knowing that his rookie year potentially could be a washing
- 7:12Speaker 6: in terms of him contributing, just because of all the
- 7:14Speaker 6: lost reps that he's going to have because you pick
- 7:17Speaker 6: up that fifty year option, then he really got four
- 7:18Speaker 6: years to work with him. Or does he, based in
- 7:21Speaker 6: large part on the injury, end up going in the
- 7:23Speaker 6: second round or potentially even later. I would say this
- 7:26Speaker 6: on Hendon Hooker having talked to a lot of GMS
- 7:28Speaker 6: and scouts and coaches over the past week. Here, everybody
- 7:32Speaker 6: likes the person in Hendon Hooker. He's obviously older, he
- 7:35Speaker 6: is very mature. He's a very fun guy to talk to.
- 7:39Speaker 6: He also comes from an offense in Tennessee that doesn't
- 7:42Speaker 6: look anything like what you're going to be doing in
- 7:44Speaker 6: the NFL. In terms of the receivers lining up outside
- 7:47Speaker 6: the numbers, they've really only got one drop that they do.
- 7:49Speaker 6: They use a lot of hand signals and things like that.
- 7:51Speaker 6: There's a lot that he's going to have to learn
- 7:54Speaker 6: in that regard. There's kind of an upside here for
- 7:57Speaker 6: Hendon Hooker to not be ready immediately if he lands
- 7:59Speaker 6: in a Washington that wants to give Sam Howell a shot,
- 8:01Speaker 6: if you were to land in a Minnesota that's got
- 8:03Speaker 6: Kirk Cousins name the spot an established starter, take a year, obviously,
- 8:08Speaker 6: get healthy, but also learn all those other aspects of
- 8:10Speaker 6: running an NFL offense. Those first round quarterbacks tend to
- 8:13Speaker 6: get pushed. The guy coming off an injury. He really
- 8:16Speaker 6: can't do that.
- 8:16Speaker 1: His injury was week before Thanksgiving, so we're talking September,
- 8:20Speaker 1: nine months out at that point from a torn acl
- 8:24Speaker 1: We are one week out from night number one of
- 8:26Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three draft.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Thank you, guys.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Richardson fires one over to the next draft.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Richardson, He'll load it up and cut it loose with
- 8:37Speaker 6: that big arms.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Richardson.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson is dangerous in the open field. And now
- 8:48Speaker 1: for something completely different. Every year, Maurice Jones drew hands
- 8:52Speaker 1: in a mock draft.
- 8:53Speaker 2: That is well out there.
- 8:56Speaker 1: MJD's mock draft, available now on NFL dot com, has
- 8:59Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson going one okay, but CJ. Stroud going too,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and then Rice Young falling to three, at which point
- 9:07Speaker 1: the Colts jump up with the Cardinals and take them,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and the Cardinals go Tyree Wilson. This mock draft is
- 9:16Speaker 1: not a bonkers baldy MJD like.
- 9:18Speaker 2: As a dentist thing or something.
- 9:20Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He'll be on ta later, So.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Baldy, let's make sense, and let's make fun of his
- 9:24Speaker 1: mock draft. I'm kidding, let's not make fun of it, but.
- 9:26Speaker 5: Let's mock the mock. Let's mock the Okay, let's do.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Anthony Richardson one go.
- 9:33Speaker 5: So that's where the mock begins.
- 9:37Speaker 8: Look, maybe it's the channeling Cam Newton who was the
- 9:41Speaker 8: first pick in twenty eleven and five years later he
- 9:44Speaker 8: was the MVP of the league and the team was
- 9:45Speaker 8: in the Super Bowl, and they feel like they could
- 9:47Speaker 8: do that again.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Maybe maybe you.
- 9:49Speaker 8: Know, MJ's like, look, I coach you know, high school football.
- 9:53Speaker 8: I coach all these kids. Put the best athlete a quarterback,
- 9:55Speaker 8: Let's coach him up. Let's build a system around Anthony Richardson.
- 9:59Speaker 8: And if you take that approach, you can probably say,
- 10:02Speaker 8: let's put the most talented guy at the most important position.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Let's build an offense around him.
- 10:07Speaker 7: You know.
- 10:08Speaker 8: And I don't know how patient the people and Charlotte
- 10:12Speaker 8: are going to be to wait for the development of
- 10:15Speaker 8: Anthony Richardson, because you can only put Andy Dalton out
- 10:18Speaker 8: there for so many games where you got to put
- 10:20Speaker 8: Richardson on the field.
- 10:21Speaker 5: I just think he's a little too raw right now
- 10:24Speaker 5: to do.
- 10:24Speaker 2: That it sounds like I'm ripping MJD. I love this
- 10:27Speaker 2: mock draft.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I got so excited yesterday in the newsroom when I
- 10:29Speaker 1: heard it was gonna drop yesterday or this morning rather,
- 10:32Speaker 1: because his mock draft is the most fun. It is
- 10:34Speaker 1: just out there. He has, for example, CJ. Stroud still
- 10:39Speaker 1: going ahead of Bryce Young. He didn't go on, but
- 10:42Speaker 1: Stroud goes two ahead of Young at three. The Colts
- 10:46Speaker 1: who trade up.
- 10:47Speaker 8: Yes, and then he also reunites him with Jackson Smith
- 10:51Speaker 8: and Jig later with the other Houston pick, and you
- 10:53Speaker 8: put that buck eye connection back together that you know,
- 10:57Speaker 8: we're Smith and Jig. You know caught over sixteen hundred
- 11:00Speaker 8: yards of passes from one c J. Stroud two years
- 11:03Speaker 8: ago and they were one of most dynamic offenses in
- 11:06Speaker 8: all football. So I look, I mean, maybe you know
- 11:10Speaker 8: MJ has a thing about five FO ten quarterbacks just
- 11:13Speaker 8: very up in the NFL, and you'd rather go with
- 11:15Speaker 8: the bigger, stronger player at number two.
- 11:18Speaker 1: You would think that he would like the short he
- 11:20Speaker 1: does that, you would think he would like the short guy.
- 11:25Speaker 8: Well yeah, but short with bowling ball sized legs is
- 11:29Speaker 8: different than short. And you know on Bryce Bryce Young's
- 11:34Speaker 8: Olympic sprinter type legs.
- 11:36Speaker 5: There's a different base.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Rude, I totally get it. He's got bejon At tend
- 11:39Speaker 1: to the Eagles. He has Will Levis going eleven to
- 11:42Speaker 1: the Titans. We're justing Will Levis here, visited the Patriots
- 11:46Speaker 1: yesterday at fourteen. So if Levis is somehow to fall,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I think Tennessee makes a lot of sense.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I don't dislike this one.
- 11:55Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I mean sometimes you know, it's just a
- 11:58Speaker 8: crossroad puzzle and you're just trying to put teams.
- 12:02Speaker 5: And players together. We know how this is. This is
- 12:04Speaker 5: actually it's an extra. But you know, you certainly could
- 12:07Speaker 5: see many people.
- 12:08Speaker 8: Have had Tennessee trading up in this trap to get
- 12:11Speaker 8: a quarterback, knowing that.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Ryan Tannehill might not be there that much long, coming.
- 12:15Speaker 8: Out for serious ankle injury from a year ago, and
- 12:17Speaker 8: with the new offensive coordinator.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Calling plays, maybe they want a big, strong arm kid you.
- 12:22Speaker 8: Know that you know, started a bunch of years at
- 12:25Speaker 8: Kentucky there last two years after transferring, and so you know,
- 12:29Speaker 8: maybe they start the rebuild in Tennessee in a different
- 12:33Speaker 8: way with Will Levis right there.
- 12:35Speaker 1: All right, So Hended Hooker goes twenty three to the Vikings.
- 12:37Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Like we were just talking about there with the guys
- 12:40Speaker 1: with the insiders about if you have a veteran quarterback
- 12:43Speaker 1: in place, you give in essence a redshirt year to
- 12:45Speaker 1: handed hooker I mentioned he has Bejon Robinson, MJD does
- 12:49Speaker 1: at ten. We've seen that a lot of places. It
- 12:51Speaker 1: does make a lot of sense. It's Howie does want
- 12:53Speaker 1: to go running back, which would be out of the.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Norm for him.
- 12:56Speaker 1: But what I like and what is different here, and
- 12:59Speaker 1: obviously a running back made this mock.
- 13:01Speaker 2: He has a.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Second back going in the first round, which I don't
- 13:04Speaker 1: think anyone has, and that's Jamiir Gibbs, a twenty six
- 13:08Speaker 1: baldy to the Cowboys.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Well, it's certainly. Look, it's certainly a position of need
- 13:13Speaker 5: for the Cowboys.
- 13:14Speaker 8: I mean, right now they don't have a healthy running
- 13:16Speaker 8: back as Tony Power is coming back from that injury
- 13:19Speaker 8: from a year ago.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Still, but you know they're going to have a committee.
- 13:22Speaker 8: Mike McCarthy has said that they want to run the
- 13:25Speaker 8: ball more and more effectively than they did a year ago.
- 13:29Speaker 8: He's the home run hitter between He's a bigger home
- 13:32Speaker 8: run hitter than John Robinson, and you could see Dallas
- 13:37Speaker 8: going with that star system that they've always had, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 8: Mike and all the you know CD, and you add
- 13:44Speaker 8: visit player to that offense. Behind that offensive line, you
- 13:49Speaker 8: could see real production from Jamiir Gibbon. I also, I
- 13:53Speaker 8: believe that he's got Jamiir rated higher than Vijn.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Now that might be just MJ doing MJ.
- 14:00Speaker 8: Kind of things, but I think for the speed component,
- 14:03Speaker 8: the one cut and can go.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Like, I think he favors gives over Bjon Robinson.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Maurice Jones Drew, who does know more about running backs
- 14:12Speaker 1: than I do. Mjd does have Jamier Gibbs rated higher
- 14:17Speaker 1: than Bijon Robinson on his list of the best running
- 14:21Speaker 1: backs in this draft. That list and his mock draft
- 14:24Speaker 1: currently available. Baldy's read it already. Thank you Baldy on
- 14:28Speaker 1: NFL dot com.
- 14:29Speaker 8: And I mocked the mock, but we all absolutely adore
- 14:33Speaker 8: Maurice Jones Drue.
- 14:34Speaker 1: We mocked the mock, not the man. Remember that, Yes, right,
- 14:37Speaker 1: keep it classy, come it up next. We'll keep it
- 14:42Speaker 1: classy with a Super Bowl champions who are picking thirty first,
- 14:45Speaker 1: who have the draft in their own backyard, who are
- 14:49Speaker 1: working out this week in Texas. What we've learned about
- 14:51Speaker 1: Mahomes and the offense straight ahead, and also we'll hear
- 14:53Speaker 1: from Joe Shane Giants GM an update on Saquan and
- 14:56Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence straight ahead. It's pre draft press conference side
- 15:07Speaker 1: for the GMS, which means you get to ask questions.
- 15:09Speaker 2: About the guys that are already on the roster.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley as a franchise tag, he does not have
- 15:14Speaker 1: a long term deal. He is not there for the
- 15:16Speaker 1: opening of the Giants offseason program. Joe Shane, your thoughts.
- 15:21Speaker 8: You remain optimistic that Saquon will be on the field
- 15:24Speaker 8: for you at the start of the season, and from.
- 15:26Speaker 3: The outside looking in, it doesn't seem like there's an
- 15:28Speaker 3: obvious resolution based on the two sides of Pennsyla.
- 15:31Speaker 7: Yeah, you have to ask him.
- 15:31Speaker 9: I'm not sure.
- 15:32Speaker 7: I don't know what his plan is.
- 15:34Speaker 9: I haven't talked to him in probably three weeks.
- 15:36Speaker 5: He still wants to be on this team.
- 15:38Speaker 10: I haven't talked to him.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I haven't talked to him. I haven't talked to him.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Said that a couple of times.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Judia Batista much different than what he said about Dexter Lawrence,
- 15:47Speaker 1: which is a conversations are pretty.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Good right now with Dexter Lawrence's reps. What do you
- 15:52Speaker 2: take from all that?
- 15:54Speaker 11: Well, you're right. The tone was entirely different. When he
- 15:56Speaker 11: was talking about Dexter Lawrence. He said, they talked this
- 15:58Speaker 11: week and the dialogue has been really good. But when
- 16:01Speaker 11: he was asked about Saquon, and he was asked about
- 16:03Speaker 11: Saquon repeatedly, you heard what he said, I haven't talked
- 16:06Speaker 11: to him. He said, I haven't talked to him in
- 16:07Speaker 11: three weeks. He said, nothing is new since we last
- 16:10Speaker 11: talked to Joe Shane at the annual meeting in Arizona,
- 16:13Speaker 11: so that was three weeks ago. And he said at
- 16:17Speaker 11: that time that there was no outstanding offer. He made
- 16:20Speaker 11: the point that they always knew that there would come
- 16:23Speaker 11: a point in negotiations with Saquon that if there wasn't
- 16:26Speaker 11: a deal, they would take a step back and regroup.
- 16:29Speaker 11: They have the franchise tag. He said, there's no rush, right,
- 16:34Speaker 11: They've got time. But clearly the dialogue is not in
- 16:37Speaker 11: a great place now. Just the tone of voice where
- 16:41Speaker 11: he said, you know, you'd have to ask him the
- 16:42Speaker 11: question was very confidence. He's going to be on the
- 16:45Speaker 11: field for you, and he said, well, you'd have to
- 16:46Speaker 11: ask him. I don't know his plans. I haven't talked
- 16:48Speaker 11: to him in three weeks. So clearly the conversation is
- 16:52Speaker 11: not in a good place in the sense that there
- 16:54Speaker 11: is no conversation right now. Everybody knows Saquon is not
- 16:56Speaker 11: happy with the franchise tag. Everybody also knows that people
- 17:00Speaker 11: in the organization, most importantly the owner, John Marra, really
- 17:04Speaker 11: would like Saquon Darkly to be a Giant for life.
- 17:07Speaker 11: They are going to have to figure this out. It
- 17:09Speaker 11: does not sound like they are anywhere near figuring this
- 17:11Speaker 11: out right now.
- 17:12Speaker 1: He did channel Brian Dayball from earlier this week. It's
- 17:15Speaker 1: April seventeenth. In other words, well, today's April twentieth. But
- 17:19Speaker 1: he was going back to Monday when Dayball kept saying, hey,
- 17:21Speaker 1: pump the brakes on making any grand assumptions about anything.
- 17:25Speaker 2: So there there's that.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Also, obviously, asked about the draft, They're picking twenty fifth.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Anything to glean from those draft non comments?
- 17:35Speaker 5: Not a whole lot.
- 17:36Speaker 2: I thought.
- 17:36Speaker 11: One interesting thing was the Giants lost both centers in
- 17:40Speaker 11: free agency this year, but Joe Shane said that doesn't
- 17:44Speaker 11: necessarily mean they have to come out of this draft
- 17:46Speaker 11: with the center. He feels that there are guys on
- 17:48Speaker 11: the roster. There are guys on the roster who have
- 17:50Speaker 11: played center in the past in games, and he feels
- 17:53Speaker 11: they may be able to do the job. He thinks
- 17:55Speaker 11: they'll be a good competition, So maybe he threw some
- 17:58Speaker 11: cold water on the idea that they absolutely have to
- 18:00Speaker 11: come out of this with somebody who can play center immediately.
- 18:04Speaker 11: He talked about wide receivers. A lot of attention has
- 18:07Speaker 11: been paid to wide receivers for the Giants, even though
- 18:09Speaker 11: they did some work there in free agency, and he
- 18:12Speaker 11: said it's a good group at the top of the draft.
- 18:14Speaker 11: It just sort of depends on how you value them.
- 18:18Speaker 11: But he also made the point that you know they're
- 18:20Speaker 11: in a much better spot now right like they're picking
- 18:22Speaker 11: way down in the draft if they're not picking way
- 18:25Speaker 11: high up. He said they've had to sort of learn
- 18:28Speaker 11: how to evaluate defensive players, especially for instance, the defensive
- 18:32Speaker 11: front seven based on walk when Martindale likes. So they're
- 18:36Speaker 11: actually much further along than they were at this point
- 18:39Speaker 11: last year when they were all still learning each other
- 18:41Speaker 11: and learning what the coach is like, so he feels
- 18:44Speaker 11: like they're in a pretty good spot considering they do
- 18:47Speaker 11: not have two of the top ten picks, and that's
- 18:49Speaker 11: obviously a good sign about the Giants progress.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Yeah, much different than a year ago. They won a
- 18:54Speaker 1: playoff game this year. Much different feeling there for Joe
- 18:58Speaker 1: Shane now picking twenty five, Thank you, Judy.
- 19:03Speaker 9: A home floats a pass Gussey over the tunda.
- 19:06Speaker 5: He's got the touchdown. Put the boys out.
- 19:09Speaker 12: The chief defense gets an incredible touchdown quick pastor Tony
- 19:13Speaker 12: po will walk into the house, the first lead of
- 19:16Speaker 12: the game. Wide open sky more touchdown chance of city.
- 19:21Speaker 12: Don't underestimate how top Patrick Mahomes is twenty six yard scrambled.
- 19:26Speaker 12: He let him seconds left, thirty five to thirty five tie.
- 19:28Speaker 12: The kick is good for the second time in four seasons.
- 19:33Speaker 12: The Lombardy Trophy has a big red reflection. The Chiefs
- 19:37Speaker 12: are champions a Super Bowl fifty seven.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Ah Yes.
- 19:43Speaker 1: The Kansas City Chiefs picking thirty first with the draft
- 19:46Speaker 1: in their own backyard are mock's latest mock. Sab McDonald
- 19:51Speaker 1: that had a bare and Tillman and then Yadi k Uzama, who,
- 19:57Speaker 1: by the way, is gonna join us a little bit
- 19:58Speaker 1: later on this sedition of NFL Now turn out Washington.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Woof gonna be dangerous as well. Here Jeff gd O
- 20:04Speaker 1: Brian with us. We'll focus on the draft with the
- 20:07Speaker 1: Chiefs another day. Let's focus on what they're doing right
- 20:09Speaker 1: now with Jeff. The former tenth overall pick Patrick Mahomes
- 20:13Speaker 1: has his guys working out in Texas as he has
- 20:15Speaker 1: in years past. How important are these early off season
- 20:19Speaker 1: throwing sessions.
- 20:20Speaker 13: For the Chiefs, Well, Andrew, it's been really critical because
- 20:24Speaker 13: you look at what happened last season when the new
- 20:25Speaker 13: cropper receivers showed up and they had time to spend
- 20:28Speaker 13: with Mahomes and it paid off immensely in terms of
- 20:30Speaker 13: chemistry and relationships, and the.
- 20:33Speaker 7: Same thing is happening or they hope to have happened
- 20:35Speaker 7: this year.
- 20:35Speaker 14: They've got their renting houses down there, and you've got
- 20:38Speaker 14: all types of receivers showing up. I've heard you've got
- 20:41Speaker 14: even some guys who were in the draft like quitting
- 20:43Speaker 14: just Johnston and Zay Flowers showing up.
- 20:45Speaker 7: So maybe they end up being the Chiefs plans.
- 20:47Speaker 14: But Andy resaid this is really important because he's looking
- 20:50Speaker 14: for big years from guys like Sky Moore and Cadarius Tony,
- 20:53Speaker 14: and Mahomes himself said that you saw how War came
- 20:57Speaker 14: on in the last year.
- 20:58Speaker 7: You see the talent and a guy like Tony and Baldy.
- 21:00Speaker 14: You see a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes taking this kind
- 21:03Speaker 14: of time in the off season putting this in.
- 21:05Speaker 7: Know, good things are going to come from this.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Not just good things, Jeff, but like high level of competition.
- 21:11Speaker 5: And it might not just be throwing footballs. It could
- 21:13Speaker 5: be throwing horseshoes, you.
- 21:14Speaker 8: Know, it could be swinging a baseball bat and you know,
- 21:17Speaker 8: a driver, it could be hitting golf balls.
- 21:19Speaker 5: I mean, he's going to compete and he.
- 21:21Speaker 8: Wants he wants to engage Sky and Cardious Tony, who
- 21:25Speaker 8: by the way, both caught touchdown passes in this recent
- 21:28Speaker 8: Super Bowl that second half, you know, comeback. So I
- 21:31Speaker 8: think there's an awful lie you can glean from these
- 21:36Speaker 8: type of workouts, just getting in in the mind of
- 21:38Speaker 8: Patrick Mahomes, what he sees, what he expects when a
- 21:42Speaker 8: play breaks down, Physicians, where you line up, where you
- 21:46Speaker 8: can end up after emotion, a shift, all that kind
- 21:49Speaker 8: of stuff. Remember, Carderius was traded for in the middle
- 21:52Speaker 8: of the season last year, so he was still digested
- 21:55Speaker 8: in playbook by the time they got to the playoffs.
- 21:57Speaker 5: He can really feel comfortable in it now. And just
- 22:00Speaker 5: the way that.
- 22:01Speaker 8: Andy Reid and you know, Eric, the enemy had moved
- 22:04Speaker 8: guys around into different positions for a variety of reasons,
- 22:08Speaker 8: and sometimes it could just be to put Travis Kelce
- 22:11Speaker 8: in a better position. But just to understand that just
- 22:15Speaker 8: because you're the number four target on this side, you
- 22:18Speaker 8: might still be very much like all those things can
- 22:21Speaker 8: be talked through. At this time of the year, I
- 22:24Speaker 8: think this is just widely valuable to Mahomes and all
- 22:28Speaker 8: the guys that work out with.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Them, Absolutely, and you'll see that value come September, October
- 22:32Speaker 1: and the Chief so January and February as well. We
- 22:35Speaker 1: focus so much on those guys in the reworking of
- 22:37Speaker 1: the old line. Let's give some love to the defense here.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Jeff Drew Tranquil, former Charger now a Chief going to
- 22:45Speaker 1: the dark side there in the AFC West House.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Is he going to help well?
- 22:49Speaker 14: A low key signing really for the Chiefs, because this
- 22:51Speaker 14: is a player who really had a good year last
- 22:53Speaker 14: year for the Chargers, led them in tackles.
- 22:56Speaker 7: He had five sacks.
- 22:58Speaker 14: An interception, and Andy Reeve when he spoke about him,
- 23:01Speaker 14: talked about how defensive coordinator Stspagnolo loves to have players
- 23:04Speaker 14: like this. We're super versatile who can be in different
- 23:07Speaker 14: position groups and can really have a huge impact on
- 23:09Speaker 14: what they want to do defensively. You know, I look
- 23:12Speaker 14: at Willie Gay, a guy who's been with this with
- 23:14Speaker 14: the Chiefs for four years now, and he may not
- 23:17Speaker 14: be on this rosternation because of a guy trank will
- 23:19Speaker 14: showing up on a one year deal. This guy can blitz,
- 23:22Speaker 14: he can cover, he can tackle, he can do everything
- 23:24Speaker 14: that stinks pac Nola Wantston can be able to do,
- 23:26Speaker 14: and their defense should be better off because of him
- 23:29Speaker 14: being a part of it.
- 23:31Speaker 1: With the Chiefs picking thirty first overall one week away
- 23:35Speaker 1: from the draft, their off season workouts have begun in Texas. Here,
- 23:40Speaker 1: thank you, Jeff, thank you Balding.
- 23:42Speaker 9: Here comes the big man. He's got him and down
- 23:53Speaker 9: he goes under pressure, sackets Felix and you dk.
- 23:56Speaker 5: U sama again going.
- 24:00Speaker 10: We on the run. Now, We're going dewn going death
- 24:03Speaker 10: los It can.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Show now now now now blone now Rone now.
- 24:08Speaker 9: And Joe's down and at Felix and you dk U
- 24:12Speaker 9: Sama came around the edge and the top sack man
- 24:17Speaker 9: in this conference.
- 24:19Speaker 1: He knows how to celebrate. He's the Big twelve defensive
- 24:21Speaker 1: player of the year. And I'm told Felix that you
- 24:24Speaker 1: were smiling watching your highlights. Do you like watching your
- 24:27Speaker 1: own highlights?
- 24:30Speaker 10: I like watching some, especially when I do the sag dance.
- 24:33Speaker 2: That that one at the end. What what was that?
- 24:35Speaker 13: Uh?
- 24:36Speaker 10: Yeah, you should try it.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I just kind of did and embarrassed myself. So you
- 24:39Speaker 1: tell me more about what I just no.
- 24:44Speaker 10: Use your hips a little bit.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I'm in a chair, so thankfully you don't have to
- 24:48Speaker 1: see me chair dance. Does that have a name or
- 24:50Speaker 1: is that just something you made up?
- 24:53Speaker 10: I guess I don't know. There's something. Uh, it's not
- 24:55Speaker 10: really made up.
- 24:56Speaker 15: It's something I did in high school, okay, with with
- 24:59Speaker 15: some of my teammates in the high school, and we
- 25:02Speaker 15: kind of it was like a Houston type thing.
- 25:04Speaker 10: We saw Deshaun Watson do it a long time ago.
- 25:07Speaker 15: We kept on doing it and then I added a
- 25:09Speaker 15: little crown on top.
- 25:11Speaker 2: So I liked it. And you had a lot of
- 25:13Speaker 2: chance to do it.
- 25:14Speaker 1: You had twenty and a half sacks in your college career,
- 25:16Speaker 1: including nineteen and a half of them in the last
- 25:18Speaker 1: two years, and you made a name for yourself. Actually,
- 25:20Speaker 1: let's get to your name here, because, honestly, Felix, I
- 25:24Speaker 1: feel people are afraid of saying your name out loud
- 25:27Speaker 1: because they don't want to get it wrong. You, as
- 25:30Speaker 1: a public service, have put it on your Twitter profile.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Felix.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Sure, and you, dk Ozama, Why do you mess it up?
- 25:39Speaker 2: Some Oozama? Thank you? Why do people mess it up
- 25:42Speaker 2: so much? Like I just did? I thought I had
- 25:44Speaker 2: it down.
- 25:45Speaker 10: I mean, I feel like how it's spelled is kind
- 25:47Speaker 10: of spelled different. How you pronounce this though, I mean
- 25:49Speaker 10: I don't.
- 25:50Speaker 15: I don't harp on people that mispronounced it that much
- 25:52Speaker 15: honestly because it's I'm not gonna lie, It's pretty hard
- 25:54Speaker 15: name to pronounce.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So do you like the nickname Fau? People call you Fau,
- 26:00Speaker 2: people call me.
- 26:00Speaker 15: People say it's like Florida a plantetic or something like that.
- 26:03Speaker 15: So I'll tell you, but I'm.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Cool that though.
- 26:06Speaker 10: I'm cool with that.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, good, Well, people are going to have
- 26:10Speaker 1: to learn your name because, as I said, you had
- 26:12Speaker 1: a lot of sacks.
- 26:12Speaker 2: The last couple of years, and.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You're going to hear your name called, we think pretty
- 26:15Speaker 1: early next week in the NFL Draft. I want to
- 26:18Speaker 1: go down the list of teams here that you visited.
- 26:20Speaker 1: We got Green Bay, Tampa Bay, what else.
- 26:24Speaker 10: Green Bay, Tampa Bay Saints.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Okay, and also Texans.
- 26:29Speaker 7: All right.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Well, a lot of people say, we had this conversation
- 26:32Speaker 1: with Collijah Kanty yesterday that the teams that you don't
- 26:35Speaker 1: visit maybe are the teams that might be keeping an
- 26:36Speaker 1: eye on you. You're a hometown Kansas City. You're in
- 26:39Speaker 1: Kansas City right now. The Chiefs are picking thirty one Felix.
- 26:43Speaker 1: What would it mean to be a Kansas City Chief?
- 26:47Speaker 15: I mean, at the end of the day, I grew
- 26:50Speaker 15: up watching Kansas City Chiefs and it was the team
- 26:53Speaker 15: I respected a lot. And they're walk contenders, so it's
- 26:57Speaker 15: just it'll be an honor just to be a part
- 26:59Speaker 15: of them, honestly, But at the end of the day,
- 27:02Speaker 15: you never know.
- 27:03Speaker 10: And I've been talking to all the teams I've is
- 27:05Speaker 10: it on.
- 27:05Speaker 15: I liked literally all the teams I was on visits
- 27:08Speaker 15: with them, So I wouldn't mind playing with any team
- 27:10Speaker 15: that I've been talking to.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Recently, Felix, you had a game a couple of years
- 27:15Speaker 1: ago in which you had six sacks, but they didn't
- 27:17Speaker 1: give you six sacks against TCU. It was ruled that
- 27:22Speaker 1: you had This is the dumbest thing ever. You had
- 27:24Speaker 1: two sacks that caused fumbles and the ball went across
- 27:28Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage, Therefore they weren't sacks. Felix, six
- 27:33Speaker 1: would have tied the Division one record.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Are you still bitter over this?
- 27:40Speaker 15: As I was for a second, But at the same time,
- 27:43Speaker 15: it was just opportunity. It was just a huge opportunity
- 27:45Speaker 15: to just to be a part of the game, just
- 27:46Speaker 15: to be able to make that much plays for that
- 27:49Speaker 15: game and have a win, because that was a critical
- 27:52Speaker 15: win that year, especially against TCCU.
- 27:54Speaker 10: But yeah, it was.
- 27:55Speaker 15: It was very heartbreaking because I remember everybody was saying,
- 27:59Speaker 15: oh my gosh, you tied the record. Then later that
- 28:01Speaker 15: night they text my coach text me and they're like,
- 28:04Speaker 15: I'm sorry, but if the ball goes over the line
- 28:06Speaker 15: of scrimmage is not considered as a sack, Its just
- 28:08Speaker 15: considered as a force. I honestly I don't get that.
- 28:13Speaker 15: Hopefully they change it in a couple of years, but yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I can't imagine. What's that like? Like I said, it
- 28:22Speaker 1: NCAA record. Like Derek Thomas did six ones, he also
- 28:25Speaker 1: did seven ones in the NFL.
- 28:26Speaker 2: That's the NFL record.
- 28:27Speaker 1: But now because I hit the guy so hard the
- 28:29Speaker 1: ball went over the line of scrimmage, it's not a sack.
- 28:31Speaker 2: It's just kind of ridiculous anyway.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Also on your Twitter profile, I Felix, you have the
- 28:34Speaker 1: Nigerian flag there. The NFL does something every off season
- 28:38Speaker 1: where they take players and bring them all around the
- 28:41Speaker 1: world to kind of spread our love of football. Recently
- 28:45Speaker 1: had an NFL Africa trip. Would that be something you'd
- 28:47Speaker 1: be interested in doing?
- 28:49Speaker 5: Oh oh one hundred.
- 28:51Speaker 15: I literally talked to a lot of people about doing that.
- 28:54Speaker 15: So hopefully when I go to the league. If I
- 28:56Speaker 15: go to the league, it'll be something I can just
- 28:58Speaker 15: go back and visit some of my family back in
- 29:00Speaker 15: Nigeria too, because I haven't been there since twenty seventeen.
- 29:04Speaker 15: I was trying to go there and COVID twenty twenty
- 29:06Speaker 15: because obviously COVID happened and nobody really who's flying. So
- 29:09Speaker 15: hopefully I can go back there, visit for my family
- 29:11Speaker 15: and then help other people just help with the camp
- 29:16Speaker 15: and everything like that.
- 29:18Speaker 1: The draft is going to be in his backyard in
- 29:21Speaker 1: Kansas City.
- 29:23Speaker 2: The Big twelve Player of the Year.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Get to know his name, Felix and you dk Ouzama Felix.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Good luck to you man. Can't wait to see where
- 29:32Speaker 2: you go.
- 29:32Speaker 10: Thank you so much.
