- 0:00laced up. Let's go! It's time for Banter with
- 0:04the Boys. Welcome back to Banter with the Boys.
- 0:18Gridiron updates. Excuse me. Yeah, Rob, why'd
- 0:22you hit me in the face? Oh, God. I guess. What
- 0:28was I talking about? What did you say? NFC South.
- 0:32That's it. I'm sorry. My jaw is in so much pain
- 0:35right now. Rob didn't actually hit me. I don't
- 0:37know what happened there. But anyway. Yeah, NFC
- 0:41South. Jake, what's up? Yo, I'm ready to talk
- 0:43about the South. Great. Me too. Put them on IR
- 0:48already. I've got to be out for a game here.
- 0:51Bring in the reliever. Yeah, that's it. Kev's
- 0:53here as well behind everything, getting it done.
- 0:56You know what it is. Roberto. Yo, yo, yo. Bryce
- 1:03Young going to lead the Panthers to win the division
- 1:05this year. Thought we were just saying off air
- 1:08there. Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying.
- 1:10Again? Eight and nine wins it every time. Nice.
- 1:18That's right. Yeah, I mean, Panthers are an up
- 1:21-and -coming team. Bryce has turned that corner.
- 1:25He looks like an NFL quarterback. It's a running
- 1:30back scenario. It will be interesting to see
- 1:33if Brooks actually can stay healthy after being
- 1:36injured all last year. If they can get him going
- 1:40with the rest of that team, I kind of like them
- 1:43offensively, defensively. They're decent enough
- 1:47in that division. I see them probably. Added
- 1:51a couple linebackers to that. Yeah, I see them
- 1:54getting in, especially that Devin Lloyd guy they
- 1:57picked up from Jacksonville. I like him. The
- 1:59Phillips. Offensive line, the Walker. They just
- 2:05needed a couple more pieces, I think, now that
- 2:08they got their quarterback rolling. I'm thinking
- 2:12they're going to battle for the division again.
- 2:14I think they're squeezing out nine, ten. Oh,
- 2:21ten? Get in the double digits right now? Yeah,
- 2:24I think they're probably my team to beat in this
- 2:27division currently. Well, up and coming, I could
- 2:32see one of those teams maybe possibly getting
- 2:36up to 12. I feel like they're one of those teams
- 2:39that can really come out this year and get maybe
- 2:43up to that next level, but right now I still
- 2:46think they're teetering on that 10 win for the
- 2:49division of the NFC South. The South. Yeah, no,
- 2:54I agree with you. I think we saw a lot of...
- 2:57Progress from Bryce Young this offseason, or
- 3:00last season, excuse me. Obviously, McMillan's
- 3:06a dude. Yeah, he is. Played well. Offensive rookie
- 3:11of the year. T -Mac, baby. God, what was that
- 3:15video? No, I'm going to go off topic. Never mind.
- 3:18Anyway. Come back to that. Yeah, I'll just come
- 3:20back to it. Leggett, very likable guy, of course.
- 3:26But, no, realistically, I really like the addition
- 3:29of those linebackers on the defense. To a defense
- 3:32that was at least, like, middle of the road,
- 3:34it seemed like for most of the year and was able
- 3:37to, you know, surprise a lot of teams out there,
- 3:40played a lot of games a lot closer than most
- 3:43people probably thought. Again, in a division
- 3:46that... Do we say that it's weaker or more competitive
- 3:51within itself? Weaker. Weaker. Both can be true.
- 3:56Okay, fair enough. Well, we're going to go with
- 3:58both then because Atlanta, whatever, I don't
- 4:02know. We'll get to them too. The whole thing,
- 4:04it's just whatever. I can't give them double
- 4:08digits though, and I know you were like, I don't
- 4:11even know if you liked it either. I think they
- 4:15could be right where they were, 8 -9, or they
- 4:17could eclipse to 9 wins. But I think it'll be
- 4:21a very competitive division down there in the
- 4:24south. Yes, very competitive. I don't feel like
- 4:29really the addition of Jalen Phillips or Devin
- 4:33Lloyd is going to have that significant of an
- 4:35impact. What? Tell us more. I mean, they were
- 4:38last in total pressures. And they were 30th in
- 4:44SAC, so one of the worst teams. So they made
- 4:47upgrades, and you don't like the upgrades. Yeah,
- 4:49but when you're going from, like, 30 to 28 or
- 4:5430. Progress. I mean, yeah, ups is ups, I guess.
- 5:00Buzz Lightyear. To infinity and beyond. It doesn't
- 5:07feel like a lot of improvement. They didn't do
- 5:10enough, you're saying? Yeah, I think that they're
- 5:11going to end up staying at eight and nine. I
- 5:15love Totoro McMillan. He's going to be amazing
- 5:20for years to come. But, like, I don't... Leguette
- 5:25kind of, like, disappeared last year. Where did
- 5:28he go? Can he come back? Like, you need weapons,
- 5:33and I don't think they have them. Or I don't
- 5:37think they have enough of them. And that concerns
- 5:40me because I think other teams in the division
- 5:43have more and or better weapons. Yeah, Brooks
- 5:49is kind of that, I think he's going to have a
- 5:52nice year. That's what I'm leaning on that as
- 5:55being that weapon that you feel like they're
- 5:57missing. I hope we can actually see him. We've
- 6:00been waiting for him to see healthy enough because
- 6:04he was something else when he was healthy. What
- 6:06was it, Texas? Yes, sir. Just disgusting. So
- 6:09it would be nice to see what a healthy Brooks
- 6:12looks like. But right now, they've still got
- 6:15Hubbard over them currently. You're banking on
- 6:20it? Hey, I like Hubbard, too. Hubbard's a nice
- 6:23little back. Sure. Guy runs hard. So where'd
- 6:27you go with them? I said eight wins. Nine wins.
- 6:33Top. Ceiling's nine. Ceiling's nine. Which is
- 6:37right where they were last year. Yeah, buddy.
- 6:40The Falcons. They feel in a weird spot right
- 6:45now. Very weird. And because of that, like, I
- 6:49think they're going to regress hard. Like, they
- 6:51could fall to, like, six wins randomly. I think
- 6:53they still have, like, on paper, they have a,
- 6:56you know, middle -of -the -road team. But, like,
- 7:01there's a couple guys on there I like. Like,
- 7:03of course, I like Bates back there. Z'Darrius
- 7:06Smith I don't think adds a ton. But maybe now
- 7:09he's... unfortunately playing with a super heavy
- 7:11heart this season so maybe he goes off and has
- 7:15himself a career year offensively you know there's
- 7:18some weapons there but I think they fall to like
- 7:21six wins and I think it's because there's just
- 7:23so much I mean we don't even know who's starting
- 7:27at quarterback on week one that is true we have
- 7:29no idea we looked it up Today, before we even
- 7:33were doing this, before we even started recording,
- 7:35I guess we didn't look it up right now. Just
- 7:37in case there's been no flash news. Let's see.
- 7:41Let's see. In the Falcons quarterback community.
- 7:44Yeah, right, right. Because we're such big. No,
- 7:47still nothing. So they regressed. He's going
- 7:50to wait as long as possible. But, no, I just
- 7:52feel like it's weird that you're waiting this
- 7:53long. I'd give it to Penix personally, and I'd
- 7:57feel a little bit better. You don't think he's
- 8:00going to let it out? Penix? Yeah. I think they're
- 8:02going to give it to Tua for some reason. That's
- 8:04what my gut's telling me. I'd like Penix to win
- 8:07it out, and that's who I would give it to. He
- 8:10just needs more time to develop in there, and
- 8:12you already got him in last year after Paul and
- 8:14Kirk, so you might as well just... Put him back
- 8:17in this year, you know. Oh, but he's recovering
- 8:20from that injury again. Penix? Yeah. Right. So
- 8:23it's just like, to me, it makes sense. That's
- 8:25probably why they're waiting, right? To me, it
- 8:27makes sense that it would just be Tua at this
- 8:30point and then try to, like, figure out a time
- 8:34to put him in. Yeah, figure out a time to put
- 8:37him in or even let him learn because, I mean,
- 8:39it's. Atlanta is one of those teams with a new
- 8:42head coach. It's Kevin Stefanski, offensive mind.
- 8:45Like. Decent running back duo. Yeah, decent running
- 8:48back duo. I think Stefanski is going to do a
- 8:51lot better at utilizing Bijan Robinson than the
- 8:54predecessors. Maybe a little more Pitts, too.
- 9:00Maybe a little bit more Pitts because he's a
- 9:02pretty solid and athletic tight end. But I'd
- 9:08like to see. I'd like to see another wide receiver
- 9:11across from Drake London. Yeah, losing Mooney.
- 9:15Yeah. And I don't think the signing of Jahan.
- 9:19Jahan Dotson's not enough. Yeah, I don't think
- 9:20it's Jahan Dotson because we've seen him kind
- 9:24of travel across the globe at this point for
- 9:27his career that he's not a one or a two that's
- 9:32going to be able to be that dynamic piece opposite
- 9:36of Drake. I think they're going to be interesting
- 9:41offensively. To your point, I don't think there's
- 9:45much changing defensively. They may probably
- 9:47take a couple of steps back in the win total.
- 9:52I wouldn't be surprised if it's six, but I could
- 9:55still see them, like, coming out at eight, and
- 9:57so, like, eight and nine again. Yeah, I'm kind
- 10:01of on the same boat with all you guys where the
- 10:03Falcons are, just not knowing where the quarterback
- 10:06scenario. They do have so many weapons on offense.
- 10:09That defense, they're mid of the road in general.
- 10:14They don't do a ton to get. A lot better. Yeah,
- 10:19not enough to where I'm going to be like, you
- 10:21know, that they can, you know, hold the quarterback
- 10:24still in the game if the quarterback's struggling.
- 10:28Yeah, they're seven wins, somewhere in there.
- 10:32I could see them going down to five. They have
- 10:35enough offensive talent to get the eight to nine,
- 10:37but that's if everything's clicking on the offensive
- 10:39side. But I'm going to settle in the middle at
- 10:41about seven. How many points a game do you think
- 10:43that offense has to score to kind of? I mean,
- 10:4625 to 28. Yeah. Yeah. We'll see. I mean, but
- 10:53B. John Robinson, if you can get him cooking,
- 10:55you know, he's a game changer by himself. For
- 11:00sure he is. He almost single -handedly beat the
- 11:04crap out of the Vikings, too, I'm pretty sure.
- 11:06The most NFL teams. And so the new coach changed,
- 11:12you know, a little more offense -oriented, which,
- 11:14you know, it's kind of gone away from where they,
- 11:17I don't know, I feel like that offense has been.
- 11:19Like, they've had a lot of skilled players there
- 11:22in the last few years, but none of them really
- 11:23have. I guess they're almost like that Philadelphia
- 11:27Eagles feeling, you know, like they should score
- 11:29more, you know. Yeah. But they're not winning.
- 11:32Right. Yeah. We would questions like, hey, why
- 11:34are you not continuing to hand the ball off to
- 11:36Bijan? Yeah, exactly. Like he should be touching
- 11:39the ball 25 to 30 times. And you're maybe getting
- 11:4215 out of them. You're just like, give him the
- 11:45ball more. Yeah. So, yeah, he disappeared. That's
- 11:48why I'm hoping Kevin, you know, stays locked
- 11:51in on that scenario. Yeah, they're a really interesting
- 11:54team, you know, but I don't think there's enough
- 11:58on the defense to make a big run in this division,
- 12:01at least. Right on. Sounds good. Okay. Okay.
- 12:06Yeah, let's move on. All right. Moving on. Going
- 12:09to Houdat Nation. Houdat. Who? New Orleans Saints,
- 12:146 -11 last year. Surprisingly. I think we said
- 12:20they were the worst team last year in the NFL,
- 12:23didn't we? We might have. Preseason. We might
- 12:26have. Maybe. We were not very high on them, that's
- 12:28for sure. For sure. We probably picked them to
- 12:30finish last in the division, which they did.
- 12:33So we were right. There we go. We got one right.
- 12:36Finally. Look at that. Still listening? Anyway.
- 12:41So Tyler shucks the guy, apparently. Love it.
- 12:45Oh, you love it. Yeah. You love it. What do you
- 12:48love about Shuck? He was just balling out. Last
- 12:54year, I drafted him in my fantasy football dynasty
- 12:59league, and I unfortunately had to cut him because
- 13:04the program's slowness to update quarterback
- 13:10injuries, so I had to cut a player. Because I
- 13:14was over my quarterback limit, and I was needed
- 13:17to get, I think it was at a point where Lamar,
- 13:20I was waiting for Lamar to be officially ruled
- 13:22out so I could put him back on IR kind of thing.
- 13:26So I ended up cutting him, and then somebody
- 13:29else picked him up, and I'm just, like, bummed
- 13:31that I didn't get to keep him. And then he started
- 13:34playing the back half of the season. He was playing
- 13:36lights out. Like, he gave that team a different
- 13:40set of energy. I'm really looking forward to
- 13:45seeing what he can do with a full year with Kellen
- 13:47Moore. I think that offense is going to be lit.
- 13:50You've got Travis Etienne now. Yeah, buddy. He's
- 13:54pretty much Alvin Kamara 2 .0. And I think that
- 13:58that's really good for them to be able to have,
- 14:01like, all right, we've got two running backs
- 14:04that function pretty much the same way. Like
- 14:06Pacheco and Gibbs? Yeah. So it's like if one
- 14:10gets injured, you can slot the other one in real
- 14:12quick, and you're not really having to change
- 14:14the playbook or be like, all right, we have to
- 14:16use a certain subset of plays or a different
- 14:19set of plays in order to accommodate this. He's
- 14:22just like, all right, these are running backs.
- 14:25Playbook's open. Let's go. So I really love that.
- 14:29Wide receiver depth is a little concerning. I
- 14:32mean, Olave's still good. If he can continue
- 14:35to be healthy, he's going to play great. I just
- 14:38kind of Jordan Tyson's going to be out for what
- 14:43they're saying four to eight weeks right now
- 14:44with his hamstring injury. Yeah, that's that's
- 14:47brutal for their first round pick. But I think
- 14:51he has the potential to. to take away some of
- 14:54that heat for a lobby once he's back. So I really
- 14:57like, I really like it. They lost a couple of
- 15:00pieces on defense, but I don't think it's the
- 15:02end of the world for them. Uh, this is what DeMario
- 15:05Davis, a Lodi Taylor. Um, they're not going to
- 15:08miss Taysom Hill either. Um, cause not really.
- 15:12I mean, yeah. So it was just like, I really like
- 15:17him. I think, I think, I think saints are probably
- 15:22going to be, Maybe that sneaky team that actually
- 15:25has the big swing. Playoff swing? Maybe. I could
- 15:31see them being 10 wins. I could win the division.
- 15:35That'd be playoffs. I could see 10 and 7 in their
- 15:39future. This season? Yeah. I like it. I'm big
- 15:44on the Saints, too. I think they kind of hit
- 15:48on the QB, and he seems like he could be the
- 15:52guy in the NFL. They're young. I don't think
- 15:55they're there yet. I still think next year when
- 15:58we have this conversation, we might be having
- 16:01definitely 10 and 7. They might get up to 8,
- 16:06like 9. The ceiling is where you're talking at,
- 16:1010. I'm liking the Saints. They're young. I really
- 16:14like Lobby. Tyson getting hurt really sucks to
- 16:19start the season off because I thought he had
- 16:21been a really nice duel with Olave. But they're
- 16:25looking up and up right now. I don't think they
- 16:27have enough to win the division yet, but they're
- 16:30close. And I expect big things out of Olave,
- 16:33draft him in fantasy. I'm kind of watching their
- 16:36O -line, I guess, because their O -line was kind
- 16:38of struggling for some years. But then they kind
- 16:40of tried to fix it with that Calvin Banks and
- 16:42I can't even remember how to say the right tackle,
- 16:45Fuaga, I think. Yep, yep. So I kind of want to
- 16:48make sure they're still developing well. I'd
- 16:50like to see Tyler Shuck in a full season before
- 16:53I'm, like, feeling 100 % confident with him.
- 16:58The defensive secondary concerns me. They played
- 17:02well last year, but I don't think they're going
- 17:05to play that well two years in a row. I think
- 17:08it's kind of more like a fluke maybe. I'm not
- 17:10trying to downplay it. Well, Kool -Aid McKinstry
- 17:13has been solid for a number of years going back
- 17:16into college. Jonas Sanker. Okay. And then what's
- 17:23the other corner right here? Quincy Riley, who's
- 17:25out right now. Sorry to sidetrack. No, it's all
- 17:29good. I thought they had someone else other than
- 17:31Kool -Aid back there. Did you recognize the other
- 17:35two? No, no. Yeah, so I don't know. I'm a little
- 17:37concerned about their secondary. I'll give them
- 17:45another one, seven. Seven winner. Okay. I don't
- 17:48think they're even getting close to ten. Okay.
- 17:50I think the division's just too tough right now,
- 17:52and I think it's going to be, again, curious
- 17:55to see what Shuck does. In a full season. Big,
- 18:00big thanks. To your second favorite team. Mine?
- 18:07Yeah. What do you mean? The next team we're going
- 18:10to talk about. The Buccaneers? Yeah. Why are
- 18:12they my second favorite? I don't know. I talked
- 18:15about them a lot last year. I don't know if he's
- 18:16your man crush on Baker Mayfield. I do not have
- 18:19a man crush on Baker. I mean, he was sending
- 18:22me text messages earlier, like, Baker to the
- 18:24Vikings. Yeah. Baker 27. You know what I mean?
- 18:27That sounds like a man crush to me, doesn't it?
- 18:29No. No, I'm just saying. Could be a possibility.
- 18:32Hey, I have a man crush on Baker. I'd love to
- 18:34have a couple beers with that dude. I bet he
- 18:37would be fun to have a couple beers with, to
- 18:38be honest. No Mike Evans. He gone. I think they're
- 18:45going to be okay without Evans. I mean, Evans
- 18:48is super dynamic, but we saw Mecca Mbuka do great
- 18:52things in his absence. I think that we're going
- 18:57to see more great from Mbuka over the course
- 19:01of this year. So I don't think that that's as
- 19:03big of a loss as I think a lot of people might
- 19:08think. I mean, he was getting up there in age.
- 19:11Where did he end up again? San Francisco. Oh,
- 19:14yeah, San Francisco. We get to talk about him
- 19:16in the next episode. The next episode. In the
- 19:19next episode, yeah. What we saw last year with
- 19:24the Buccaneers was just the rash of injuries
- 19:26across their skilled players. You're like, all
- 19:29right, we have Mike Evans, and he's gone for
- 19:30a bit. You've got Ed Goodwin, and he's gone for
- 19:33a bit. Baker played banged up, but he's a warrior.
- 19:40Vita Vea was out for a bit. And now he, I mean,
- 19:44had contract issues this year. It's sort of resolved.
- 19:48We'll see how that ultimately plays out, I think,
- 19:51depending on how their record. goes, maybe he
- 19:53ends up getting traded this year on that one
- 19:57-year deal. But similar situation, again, probably
- 20:04still maybe eight and nine, maybe one win more,
- 20:10maybe two. Hard to say because they're bringing
- 20:13in Anzalone, and again, he's going to be an engine
- 20:16for that defense, and I really like that. Maybe
- 20:22one or two wins more this year, but not really
- 20:25a whole lot. So challenging for the division.
- 20:28Yeah, with the Saints. All right, Coach, let's
- 20:31hear it. With the Saints. Let's hear it, Coach.
- 20:34Let's hear the love. No, I'm actually not giving
- 20:38them any love. What? I think they lose. Morris
- 20:43Court, here we come. Yeah, I think so. Again,
- 20:45Baker 27, Skoll. That's why. I think they take
- 20:49a step back. He's wishing for it. It could be
- 20:53six or seven wins even type of step back. And
- 20:58it just feels like a lot of bad energy right
- 21:01now around them. Because, you know, don't get
- 21:04me wrong, I don't think Baker would allow it
- 21:06to affect his play, but having the leader of
- 21:08your offense come out and say that, like, well,
- 21:11I had my own timetable and they didn't meet it,
- 21:14so, you know, it is what it is. So, like, how
- 21:16much is he really looking into this season? You'd
- 21:19think a lot because you still need to perform
- 21:21to get a good contract, right? But it just feels
- 21:25really weird, to be honest with you. But they
- 21:30have... I do like, again, I've kind of been looking
- 21:34at the O -lines a lot more this year than I have
- 21:36in years past. And I do like theirs. They have
- 21:38a pretty solid O -line. And Bucky Irving and
- 21:42Kenny Gainwell, they can give you enough to open
- 21:46up the pass game. But I'm just not in love with
- 21:50them. this year. I just feel like the Momo is
- 21:53off in Tampa. It's weird for you to say this
- 21:56information about your favorite Buccaneers. As
- 21:59long as I've been on this show, I think you've
- 22:01picked them to win the division every year is
- 22:03what I'm getting at. Which is rightfully they've
- 22:06been competing. I'm feeling your vibe right now.
- 22:09I'm a 6 -7. I don't want my quarterback with
- 22:11negative vibes. He stole my notes. It's that.
- 22:16I think there's a massive culture switch. which,
- 22:19you know, Evans leaving, which he was a huge
- 22:22leader. David, the linebacker, retirement. You
- 22:27know, he was the big leader in there. So you
- 22:29got kind of a whole, it's not the same Buccaneers
- 22:32as the Super Bowl champions that, you know, they've
- 22:34been lingering around for these years since Brady
- 22:37left. It's kind of a different team. And it'll
- 22:40be interesting to see. I love Mbuka. I think
- 22:43he's going to be a one. I don't know where Chris
- 22:46Godwin's going to be. Where is he still going
- 22:48to be? He's starting to age a little bit now
- 22:51and many injuries. I love Bucky Irvin. I think
- 22:58he's probably one of the best, but his health
- 23:00is consistent. Bucky Irvin? Yeah, just as Bucky.
- 23:04Oh, nice. So I'm with you. I think they're in
- 23:08a regress a little bit this year. I think they're
- 23:12probably about a seven. It'll be interesting
- 23:15how Baker plays out, especially if they start
- 23:17struggling at the beginning. Because I mean,
- 23:22watching quarterback Baker plays through injuries
- 23:24like no other. I mean, he probably shouldn't
- 23:26play through a lot of them. But is there going
- 23:28to be a scenario now that he shouldn't play through?
- 23:30I mean, he's going to be like, I am not going
- 23:32to play through it. Typically, he'd just grind
- 23:35it out because he's a dog. Dog. I don't know.
- 23:39And then he gets released, and he is a Viking
- 23:41in 2027. Oh, there it is. It's a full circle.
- 23:44Sold him on the idea. Sold him on the idea. Okay,
- 23:49so who did you say wins the division then? Panthers?
- 23:51Or no, you're Saints. No, I said Panthers. Panthers.
- 23:55Oh, yeah, Panthers. Okay, so we got two Panthers,
- 23:57one Saints. Okay, some discrepancy in this one.
- 24:00It's not bad. Well, did we touch them all? Yeah.
- 24:04Touch them all. Touch them all. Kirby Puckett.
- 24:07See, for me, it was Joe Maurer and Justin Morneau.
- 24:10Touch them all, Kirby Puckett. That's the World
- 24:13Series. Well, I know. Right. Were you even alive
- 24:16then? No, of course not. I'm saying growing up,
- 24:19though, it was Joe Maurer and Morneau for me.
- 24:22The M &M boys. That's right. That's right. We're
- 24:25talking about football. Football. Football. Jake,
- 24:29thanks for being here. Thanks for having me.
- 24:31You're going to be here for one more? I think
- 24:32so. Got one more. Yeah, I do. Yeah, I do. All
- 24:37right, Kev, you're making it. Kev's making it.
- 24:39Yeah, I think he's starting to nod off there.
- 24:41He's starting to make some chicken wings, though,
- 24:42because I requested that. Yes, I like it. Rob.
- 24:46Roberto. Coach, yes. Forgot your name. I'm excited
- 24:49for this division. Should be a battle. Yeah,
- 24:52me too. We'll get the first one out of the way
- 24:54pretty easy. All right, with that, don't forget
