- 0:45Welcome back to The Foundry Corner podcast.
- 0:48I'm Curtis Wilson. I'm Brian Sigler, buddy.
- 0:52Wednesday night. We roll a little later tonight
- 0:55little later tonight man. Big guy over here.
- 0:58Had a presentation at 9 o'clock. At a bang it out and crush it.
- 1:04I'm assuming I'm assuming crushed done and done man.
- 1:07Done and done. Awesome.
- 1:09Congrats on that. You've been working on that
- 1:11project pretty much all fall. So to, uh, too long.
- 1:18Good job on that nail now he rolls in gets us rolling within
- 1:24like 15 minutes even more kudos to you.
- 1:27I was expecting to be on at 10:30 10:45, but you're banging
- 1:30it, dude, you're crushing. Today, got a knock it out, fast
- 1:34man. Gotta get Gotta Get It rolling
- 1:36and yeah, it's, it was a, it was an interesting time.
- 1:41We kind of got there, a little ahead and did a little run
- 1:45through together before he went in there and went live.
- 1:48Live, but it went well. And now, we're here talking some
- 1:52Hokies talking Duke preview this week.
- 1:55We got some other big news. We're going to hit first,
- 1:57though. Absolutely lot to unload this
- 2:01week because it has been one heck of a week since we last
- 2:04talked on Sunday and we're going to start with basically all the
- 2:08coaching movement. I mean, let's start first with
- 2:11probably the big one and something hook you related tithe
- 2:14Grantham out at floor along with offensive lineman John.
- 2:18Cvcc, Dan. Mullen was already on the hot
- 2:22seat. They get the doors blown off on
- 2:25by South Carolina. He cuts Grantham go.
- 2:27He had already fired members, a defensive staff.
- 2:33Last season. Yep.
- 2:35I mean People are going to say, well, what about Grantham to
- 2:42Tech? What do you say to that, Brian?
- 2:44No, no, no, no, it's not going to happen either.
- 2:50Any, there's a few things, I mean, number one, we look at
- 2:55just what's happened over the last few years with that
- 2:58Defense. Number two, let's talk about
- 3:02there's a reason that grant them hadn't had a head coaching job
- 3:06to this point. Heroes folks the wrong way.
- 3:09He's not necessarily a guy that's going to wheel and deal
- 3:13with the donors very well. And he could be a guy that is
- 3:18abrasive enough with some of his staff that guys might not want
- 3:22to stay long-term. So I think those things are just
- 3:25playing into it where it just he's a at best a coordinator guy
- 3:31that can kind of Silo everything and work within a in his own
- 3:35world there but it's not somebody that Can really do all
- 3:38the things that you need from a coach especially at the power 5
- 3:41level abso-freakin'-lutely. And it's I think the question is
- 3:49now ask is what deep with this move is Dan Mullen.
- 3:52Essentially. Cool to see it a little bit.
- 3:55Okay, that's the question. Did he?
- 3:57Did he punt the the firing of himself out at least another
- 4:02season? Are they going to say?
- 4:03Alright, you did, you did the right thing here.
- 4:05We're going to give you one more chance to get the right guys in
- 4:10house and to at the very least when the games that should be
- 4:14winnable on your schedule. And that's the problem with
- 4:16Florida, this year is, it's not that they're not competing for
- 4:19SEC East is that they're losing games, they shouldn't.
- 4:22And that's the biggest issue. So it's going to to be really
- 4:25interesting to see, or is this a move pull by the athletic
- 4:29department to try to start cutting people off now to start
- 4:33the good people? I mean, it's going to be really
- 4:36interesting to see what happens after the Florida.
- 4:37State game Thanksgiving weekend. Next one.
- 4:41Texas Tech is no longer open before when they cannot go
- 4:45there. John McGraw, get tired.
- 4:48He had been in a HC and linebackers coach at Baylor
- 4:51since 2016 with Matt rule. He stayed over into the Dave,
- 4:55Aranda, his big piece is he basically coach down at Cedar
- 5:00Hill, a pretty big Powerhouse down in Texas for close to 15
- 5:04years. Earlier today guys all
- 5:09conversations like how did this guy get hired?
- 5:12He wasn't an OC. He'd never been.
- 5:15I guarantee you. Joey McGuire knows every good
- 5:20football program and good. Head coach in the high school
- 5:24room in the state of Texas, and if you have and you got to know
- 5:29it and that's the thing because Texas Tech isn't, I mean,
- 5:33they're really what you would consider.
- 5:34I would say a third, tier Texas team Right.
- 5:39They're probably a hair below the TC using Baylor's, they
- 5:43Teeter, they teach ya. You're the cheater, I'll give
- 5:46them that. But, but here they are, your
- 5:49whole, at least in the last five, to ten years, you consider
- 5:54them a step below the tcu's in the Baylor's.
- 5:57Exactly, exactly. So if you're trying to compete
- 6:01against those other schools for profile profile recruits, you
- 6:06better have good relationships. In your state.
- 6:10And also with those good relationship, he's going to be
- 6:12able to find those guys that are flying under the radar for some
- 6:15of the, the higher up schools. So, I think that those
- 6:18relationships are going to play into this being a pretty good
- 6:23higher for them. I don't think, I mean, it's not
- 6:25flashy, it's very much a. I mean, it's probably a very
- 6:29Mike young higher, right? For them except except for for a
- 6:34guy that doesn't, he doesn't have the experience at that.
- 6:37The head coach. Being.
- 6:38But in terms of a guy that's seems to be a good culture, fit
- 6:43a good person that knows the area that he's going to be
- 6:47handling a lot. It seems like that type of
- 6:49higher for them. Yeah, I think it's a good height
- 6:51for them because of what you said about the not the top-tier
- 6:56guys, but knowing the second and third, tier recruits out of
- 7:00Texas to start building the program.
- 7:02That program can be good. We saw it under my cleats, for
- 7:04basically a decade until Craig. James has kid basically got him
- 7:08fired. Tired and they have been nothing
- 7:11since then. Yep.
- 7:12All right. So you know it continues to go
- 7:16on Jimmy Lake in playing on Washington.
- 7:19He's only been there for two seasons.
- 7:21John Donovan out is OC, not really affecting too much.
- 7:26This is not an East Coast thing, but I think you see a trend here
- 7:30and when we get to the last one is the big one.
- 7:32That what, what could have saved just in one day?
- 7:36These guys are doing, right? Yeah.
- 7:38You see a, you see a underperforming part of your
- 7:41team cut the guy? Let him go.
- 7:44That's the only way you're going to be saved.
- 7:45Is because it's Tonight in action, when you attempt to take
- 7:49action on something that is a problem.
- 7:52Most people say he can recognize it, we have to give him more
- 7:57time to see if he actually can fix it but you know Lakes a
- 8:02defensive guy so him him being a head coach just chopping off
- 8:07saying I don't want to say this I feel like it but ever would
- 8:10have became a head coach. This would have happened real
- 8:12quick in Blacksburg record-keeping teams to 18
- 8:17points. And we're losing your car.
- 8:20Yeah. And I think you know we've
- 8:22talked about it a whole lot with with getting rid of break or
- 8:26Nelson. We said it as early as the end
- 8:28of 2018, you could have made the call definitely is as early as
- 8:32end of 2019 when it took Jerry kill coming in and essentially
- 8:38holding his hand through the rest of the season to really
- 8:40muster an a twin campaign when, you know, expectations were
- 8:46fairly High. And early early returns were as
- 8:50about as low as you can. Imagine.
- 8:52Exactly. And that brings us to the other
- 8:55one to the other vacancy that we thought was going to be.
- 8:58And now is not because Scott Frost brought the hammer down
- 9:04fired. The Osceola line coach
- 9:06quarterback coach running back. Coach wide.
- 9:09Receiver coach is like saved, can you imagine the wide
- 9:16receiver coach? Like sitting there.
- 9:20And coaches called the o.c. and shitty fired him.
- 9:25Next guy. And way.
- 9:26Did the o.c. coach wide receivers that might be?
- 9:29No. No, I don't think so.
- 9:30I think he was okay, but he went hammer down, it only really been
- 9:40there to normal years If we if we're taking covid year aside
- 9:44he'd only been there, two normal years.
- 9:46What he's doing is typically what happens in third years of
- 9:50most programs that are under achievement You clean the, a
- 9:54clean house. Because of covid, you know,
- 9:58we're on a different timeline. I'm sure his thought was weird
- 10:01season last year, I want to see where we go this year because
- 10:04they're not losing games because of their defense there.
- 10:08I mean they held down and I know there were some injured guys, on
- 10:11Ohio State. The hello, how is take the 23?
- 10:15That's impressive. They kept it close enough where
- 10:19they had a chance at the end to make something happen and they
- 10:22just they couldn't couldn't get it going.
- 10:25So he absolutely brings the hammer down and I think with
- 10:28that you can say Nebraska is he on a hot seat going into next
- 10:32year likely going to his year five but I think what he's did
- 10:37is he's giving himself the opportunity to wear.
- 10:40If they put a winning season together he extends it one year
- 10:43by saying you made the Right Moves.
- 10:46Put yourself in a good winning position and now we're going to
- 10:50give you. You have a decent season.
- 10:51You get one more season to really Excel if we can get to
- 10:548:00 or Next year, then he probably is safe.
- 10:57Keeping a job again. Take as long as they see, some
- 11:01sort of upward trajectory with these changes, I think they'll
- 11:06probably let it ride. So what is it?
- 11:11Can I ask you this? Let's yeah, let's go to Scott
- 11:13Frost. How easy would have fit that?
- 11:17Be for Justin Fuente to go in their experience offensive
- 11:19coordinator? Who's been a head coach who, you
- 11:22know, know how to run offense, you know, get some of the stuff
- 11:25he does. It has some pieces of what
- 11:28frosted it UCF, not everything, but there's some, there's some
- 11:33variations, there's some overlap.
- 11:34You think about the area? He would probably bring Vice
- 11:39with them and like them Berg being a Nebraska guy.
- 11:45That's an interesting thing. Again, in lot of this depends on
- 11:49whether Fuente is wants to continue being a head coach or
- 11:54whether he would prefer to be a powerful Ally of coordinator.
- 11:58He's not going to head coach job right now.
- 12:01He's not, not even, not even G5. No.
- 12:05Okay, unless he wants to scrape bottom of the barrel like
- 12:08Bowling Green. I mean I mean or accurate like
- 12:13one of these absolutely dumpster fire programs.
- 12:17He's not doing a good piece of G5, he's not good in a good G5
- 12:20job, okay? Getting that makes sense.
- 12:23He's not he's so he's essentially not getting the any
- 12:27of the puddle jump openings that are coming open.
- 12:30Exactly. He's not going to get those
- 12:32because I think what's going on with him is he's going to have
- 12:36to prove to because the, a do 80s at those schools, especially
- 12:40you think about SMU and schools like that they're making money.
- 12:46They're having good attendance. They're competing they're
- 12:48getting ranked. You want to come in here after
- 12:52what you did there when you was set up with a great situation
- 12:55and you go on down to the really low.
- 12:57Rung, Texas states, where basically, these are 12 to win
- 13:03teams and see what you can do, maybe you can come back up
- 13:06eventually. So that's my opinion on it.
- 13:10You're probably not far off, man.
- 13:12I mean, we'll see that's going to be it's going to be one of
- 13:17those things. I know some people will not when
- 13:19he gets fired. Will not follow him.
- 13:22I will. I will see, I want to see what
- 13:26he does elsewhere and to see if it was truly, was it a, was it a
- 13:30truly bad fit? Or was some of his coaching
- 13:33methods, essentially, 10 years old and didn't work anymore.
- 13:39And some of them, I'd be it, just think things that you can
- 13:43things that your choices you don't have to make as an
- 13:45offensive coordinator. Now it they fall in your lap and
- 13:48he just not prepared to have the right culture fit to make those
- 13:53those work long-term. ERM absolutely.
- 13:56And some of that is how things are relating with players, some
- 14:00of its how punishments are being handed down.
- 14:03And so some of that's been out of his hands but some of it has
- 14:07been in. His hands has been potentially
- 14:09questionable as far as how things were handled.
- 14:12So and that's that's things as a head coach that you don't
- 14:17necessarily have to think about too much as a coordinator.
- 14:21Exactly. So some of those things get
- 14:23taken off his plate. Exactly.
- 14:27All right, let's roll on here. College football, playoff
- 14:30rankings, come out last night, and here's the order.
- 14:35George it, number one, no shock there.
- 14:37Alabama, stays put it number two, I don't know why we
- 14:40punished other teams for not having good games against
- 14:44inferior opponents, but not them.
- 14:46They are essentially Teflon. Organ jumps, one up to number
- 14:51three, Ohio state is now number four since he gets a bump up to
- 14:55number five, right outside in Michigan is number six.
- 15:04Right, so there's something a little bit different this week
- 15:09than last week, right? Yeah.
- 15:14Last week, they talked about head-to-head matchups, that's
- 15:17why organ was ahead of Ohio State.
- 15:20This week. It seems like they do not want
- 15:22to deal with that with Michigan State beating Michigan, two
- 15:26weeks ago, Michigan State's it seven And I know it in the long
- 15:33run in the long scheme of things.
- 15:35It doesn't matter if Michigan State went beat Penn State, and
- 15:37they beat Ohio State there in the Big Ten championship and
- 15:40they're going to probably be in but it's just hope flip-flop,
- 15:44right? Like last week this really
- 15:47matters this week kind of matters just when we need it to
- 15:52matter. Well, I think that's the thing,
- 15:55it's very arbitrary when they apply certain rules.
- 15:59Sometimes, you know, We talked about it last season, sometimes
- 16:03the extra Conference Championship game matters, and
- 16:05then sometimes it doesn't, sometimes flat-out winning your
- 16:11conference matters, and sometimes it doesn't sometimes
- 16:15head-to-head matchups matter. But if you're Alabama or
- 16:19Michigan, they apparently don't. The hamster in the list goes on
- 16:26and it wouldn't bother me if it was consistent. you know, if you
- 16:31have your criteria, you have your criteria, you know, and
- 16:35we've seen in the past that They care more about, I test than
- 16:41necessarily record overall record in terms of having.
- 16:44Whether it's an extra win in the conference Championship Game,
- 16:47you know, whatever it may be fine.
- 16:50That's that's at least been somewhat consistent.
- 16:52But what hasn't been consistent is how they gauge head-to-head
- 16:56matchups with a similar record. Yeah.
- 17:00So if you've got I mean if you've got the same record you
- 17:03would think the head-to-head matchup would be kind of the
- 17:05trump card, unless the loss is a very bad loss.
- 17:10Yeah. Unless the loss is something
- 17:12like if Michigan state had lost to like a one-in-six Purdue.
- 17:16Yeah, like nope. They got lucky against Michigan
- 17:19and the luck ran out against Purdue, but in this case, they
- 17:23rank Purdue this week. Yeah.
- 17:26So Oklahoma State. Eight, Oklahoma has to top 15
- 17:31games in the next month. If Oklahoma beats Baylor and
- 17:36they beat Oklahoma State, and then they beat them again.
- 17:39They're in. Yep.
- 17:40That you can't keep them out. So this is the way this year
- 17:47shaping is why it should be 12 teams.
- 17:51Because the way this year is shaping, right now, the 12 team
- 17:55would be wait for sedating one. There, Texas A&M is the only two
- 18:01lost team in the top 12. Yeah.
- 18:03So again, it's more and more everything that shakes out in
- 18:08the next month in the end people are going to be like, this is
- 18:11why we need to go to 12 and they're going to probably get
- 18:15pushed hard even though they stopped.
- 18:17If this, this is kind of the first year, I'd say that even
- 18:22the early early polls have been well, the early early Rankings
- 18:28have been controversial. Like really controversial and
- 18:33not just down the line. I mean, down the line is always
- 18:35been. Oh, I can make an argument that,
- 18:39you know, how the 10th ranked team, should be the sixth ranked
- 18:41team or something like that, but you but usually the first five
- 18:44or six are fairly written in pen.
- 18:50Yep, I've already barring any losses that happened this year.
- 18:54It's very, very questionable and it's showing the floor.
- 18:57How's that when you start having a number of head-to-head
- 19:00matchups against teams that are in that top eight range, right?
- 19:05It's definitely trending towards they care a whole lot more about
- 19:09I test than they do about head-to-heads exactly.
- 19:13Right, we'll roll on and brine. The next thing we're going to
- 19:17hit here in just a little bit. I feel like we got to go deep
- 19:19dive on this. Probably in January, the new
- 19:23potential. Draft of a NCAA Constitution,
- 19:29essentially given more powers to the school different at each
- 19:32level, you know, D1 D2 D3. What do you think of it?
- 19:41Is it a step in the right direction?
- 19:43Or is it too late? Both.
- 19:50It's absolutely a better situation than what we've been
- 19:54dealing with. This should have been addressed
- 19:58probably five to ten years ago if you want addressed.
- 20:04It five at five to ten years ago.
- 20:06You probably wouldn't have a lot of the problems that you're
- 20:08having now. Probably name image and likeness
- 20:14would have been a whole lot smoother of a transition.
- 20:20So yeah, I mean, I think it's it's a good move.
- 20:23It's just not timely know it's real but it's always something.
- 20:28You've always said about the NCAA, if they dare reactionary,
- 20:32they are reactionary. They are not a proactive
- 20:34organization, they're very reactionary organization and
- 20:38everything that's happened in the last really 18 months.
- 20:40It took them this long and to get this together, we're in
- 20:45reality, you said it five to ten years ago at worst three years
- 20:49ago they should have had something like this coming down
- 20:51the pipe, it will be really interesting the final version
- 20:55and I'm sure sometime in February or March when the final
- 20:57version is released and approved, will sit here and talk
- 21:00about an hour with it about everything in the grainy, yummy
- 21:04details. So, we'll move on from that
- 21:08Brian. I did not get to watch it last.
- 21:12Might but I followed closely on my phone.
- 21:15The Hokies men open the twenty twenty one twenty twenty-two
- 21:20season with an absolute curb stomping of Maine, 82. 47 first
- 21:27before I go? Did you get a chance to watch
- 21:29any of it? Or were you like me following?
- 21:32I watched it from start to finish buddy.
- 21:35Yes, we are behind on Yellowstone and we had to punish
- 21:40season 3 last night. Add to I wasn't going to.
- 21:44I told wifey I was like, listen, we're going to finish this
- 21:47tonight. We'll stay up a little later so
- 21:50give me some details. Who look good, you know, look
- 21:53like much. Look good looks like somebody's
- 21:55look. Good David and look great. 7 for
- 21:597 from the field. 15 points, having having him look more
- 22:04aggressive at the offensive end is going to be great for this
- 22:07team. Front Court looked impressive.
- 22:12And that's even with a looming, not really having his best
- 22:15night. So I'm really, I'm really
- 22:18excited about what I'm seeing there and I think this just from
- 22:23depth perception standpoint, I know there was some loss in the
- 22:27in the portal but guys are stepping up guys are moving into
- 22:33roles. So I'm hoping that that that
- 22:35Trend continues because you know, we put a kind of a second
- 22:39unit out there and we didn't see a ton of drop off.
- 22:42And the first unit is pretty damn good on its own.
- 22:45So oh yeah. The first unit really really
- 22:47good and some what I think I saw maybe it's Dave and cutting and
- 22:52someone said This is the type of Team, Mike young ones.
- 22:59Yeah, not last year. Last year they played
- 23:02unbelievable with missing the key cogs but like the way this
- 23:06team is constructed is exactly how he wants it and you know,
- 23:11nguesso motion offense and yes it's on the three and and that
- 23:16that's definitely personnel-wise it aligns more with those values
- 23:20this year. I mean and you know they shot 43
- 23:23percent from three. That's if they You'd 40-plus
- 23:26every game. They're going to be in every
- 23:28game. Yeah, every game did get out
- 23:32rebounded, always a concern. That's, that's the big thing.
- 23:36And it's interesting. It, there were a couple folks
- 23:40that were like selectively active and then there were a
- 23:43couple like I felt like position was given a little bit too easy.
- 23:49That's definitely something that's correctable and that's
- 23:51definitely something that, you know, you can kind of work.
- 23:55And as the season goes along and probably a little bit of the,
- 23:59the defensive match up on the perimeter, could be better.
- 24:04But in terms of overall performance, I mean, there's not
- 24:07a whole lot to critique their rebounding aside.
- 24:11Yep, next game, Friday against Navy.
- 24:14Obviously, Navy coming off, if you didn't read, maybe beat
- 24:17number 25 UVA last night. So by game, they got a by game
- 24:21against UVA. Yes.
- 24:25Yes. So Friday night.
- 24:27Check it out. I think it's going to be, let's
- 24:30see. I think it is going to be
- 24:32somewhere to be 8:30 Friday night.
- 24:36CBS Sports Network. There we go.
- 24:39So it will be on TV. All right.
- 24:42Brian the follow-up, entree. I don't know if you had a chance
- 24:46to listen to the presser any today or yesterday when it Yay.
- 24:52Nay I unfortunately have missed pretty much everything.
- 25:00Well, basically, this is what going to be said.
- 25:03And again, he never really acknowledged what he said Friday
- 25:06night and I wish someone would have put him to the fire saying
- 25:10when did you really know? Because like the way he was
- 25:14talking it's like he was at practice and he was able to run
- 25:17around and do things and he saw a specialist On Wednesday, he
- 25:22didn't really affect him while he was playing.
- 25:24They said, they said Saturday night or Friday night when he
- 25:28was doing the presser. He had a tough time talking and
- 25:31he apologized to the press and he had similar things coming
- 25:34back home on Friday night from BC, flying down, but And it
- 25:42gotten worse during the week, the whole piece is if a guy's
- 25:46having any sort of breathing issues, are you really going to
- 25:50have any thought of putting them on a football field?
- 25:56At all. And I don't care if it's
- 25:58pulling, he's running around, he's fine.
- 26:00He's having issues breathing at times.
- 26:04You can't do that. I think that's why we got the
- 26:07wind. When we got the win last week
- 26:11was he has some problems breathing and I'm sure it was
- 26:15like yeah he's not going to play because if there is something
- 26:18wrong and he gets popped the wrong way.
- 26:21And essentially on the field of play quits breathing.
- 26:25Yeah you got a lawsuit on your hands forever.
- 26:28Yeah. And you know that's the
- 26:31situation. You actually want to approach
- 26:32with caution any time. It's dealing with breathing
- 26:36heart, anything like that, you want to You want to take that
- 26:40slow and animal and make sure you're making the right choice
- 26:42there. So I'm not again.
- 26:45I don't want to beat a dead horse here, beat it, but just
- 26:51communication man. Communication and I think, I
- 26:54think that's the thing. I mean, the fanbase genuinely
- 26:57cares about Trey Turner, not just whether he's going to be on
- 27:01the field, but what's going on? Because we he's one of us.
- 27:08I mean and how active He is on Twitter with with the fan base
- 27:12and just his outright love of Hokie nation in general.
- 27:16I mean, we feel that. So I mean, players like that,
- 27:22and not to Discount any other player, but obviously players
- 27:24that are like that and really taking an effort to engage with
- 27:28fans fans care about fans, want to know what's going on, and I'm
- 27:33not saying you gotta your divulge, every little detail
- 27:37about an injury, but definitely need to clearly communicate when
- 27:41you knew he was not going to go. Because once you once you did
- 27:46once you communicated at very, vaguely then people started
- 27:51asking questions and I'm sorry, but I'll say this again, we're
- 27:55beyond the point where Fuentes getting benefit of the doubt
- 27:59from a majority of the fan base. So he's got a essentially
- 28:02account for that when he's making his statements as well.
- 28:07Yeah. So again what he should have
- 28:12addressed was probably what he could have said and this would
- 28:16have been resolved with everything he was practicing, I
- 28:20thought he was going to play your point was it was a
- 28:23communication issue. Sounds like between him and the
- 28:26training staff. We're again, you have to tell it
- 28:31and I think maybe it's how closed off he is.
- 28:35The introvert. He is where those guys like,
- 28:38well, we need to tell him and like, but it's tough to get him
- 28:41yada yada, but we'll move on from that.
- 28:44It's going to be a great weekend up at Virginia Tech.
- 28:47Brian, it's poke Hall of Fame weekend and there are seven.
- 28:52Folks going in going to mention them all here, just to give them
- 28:55a little Kudos. The first we look at Jackie
- 28:58develop Hendrick. She was a swimmer and diver back
- 29:01in the late 1990s to tie me 10, most outstanding diver.
- 29:05Still holds the school record in one meter diving off Time
- 29:08conference Champion. So obviously you know
- 29:14unbelievable there. Then we get into the track stars
- 29:18in man, I can still remember the name.
- 29:21Queen Harrison. I mean, if you are if you lived
- 29:25in the state of Virginia Union, who Queen Harrison was
- 29:29three-time NCAA champion and Olympian in 2008, you know, It
- 29:35to Beijing from Richmond. Just unbelievable star.
- 29:43You know what more can be said about her in the mid-2000s.
- 29:49As far as Olympic track goes, at the Virginia and Virginia Tech,
- 29:54then another track star, Kristin Kathleen about the same time,
- 30:00period, 7, time All-American want to bronze at the 2016 in
- 30:04the 100-meter hurdles. You know, the most individual
- 30:10All-American honors for any Virginia Tech student athlete
- 30:14that crazy good. Now, we get into names, we all
- 30:19know, all know, and let's start it with basketball gym on
- 30:26Gordon. I mean Jomon Gordon and defense
- 30:30man. Oh yeah, time they CC Defensive
- 30:35Player of the Year back in 2006, 2007 on, you know, those are
- 30:42shaky years and they weren't the best years for Tech basketball
- 30:44was coming on the bill, but he was one of those guys who was
- 30:47there. You know, part of that team that
- 30:52pulled the upset Or is he won a game in 07 when they got on the
- 30:58tournament lost in the second round it's really cool.
- 31:03Kind of seeing guys you know that we've seen go in and now
- 31:09we're going to turn to the three guys because the big three the
- 31:14first is he is d0 G of D. Bu Tyrone.
- 31:20Drake 3rd, 1992. 1993 All giggy's three times s and career
- 31:29interception, jet Tech won a Super Bowl with my beloved
- 31:3249ers. He set the standard for dvu.
- 31:38He did he did, and he was one of those guys that came in, we,
- 31:42when we weren't a good program, and by the time he left in 93,
- 31:47his Mark was made in 1992. He intercepted seven.
- 31:54Balls 7. I think I think Housley broke
- 31:58his record when he got eight back that year, he was named an
- 32:01All-American, 16 total picks. I'm looking at the some of the
- 32:07pictures here, the old uniforms, you know, you know.
- 32:11So let's break some Nostalgia back in the second round, pick,
- 32:15he played in the NFL for about seven years.
- 32:20But again, one of the, one of the, one of the, one of the
- 32:24Godfathers, one of the oh gee, oh yeah, stand up.
- 32:27Standard Bearer. Who you want to talk about next
- 32:30which of these two, which of these two hits, your heart man
- 32:33to it. These are two of my favorite
- 32:35all-time favorite Defenders. Our favorite all-time like atg,
- 32:42Let's start with Xavier adibi. The X-Man X-Man, the X-Men.
- 32:49I mean, 603 2007. We might have seen every game.
- 32:54He played in multiple in person. Multiple in person, All-American
- 33:02part of the 06 and 07 ACC championship teams came here,
- 33:08brother, lineage And I remember talking about him when we did
- 33:14the when we did the Mount Rushmore men.
- 33:18Yeah, just Punk pops off of the tape.
- 33:21Like it's not you see him out there.
- 33:26Just big size can move and is really the kind of the Prototype
- 33:33that from thenceforth that the backer position was judged
- 33:37against. Like, how close is he to Xavier
- 33:42like that? That that's kind of the, that's
- 33:44the standard of everyone who came and you know, we had
- 33:48Tremaine Edmunds, get close to that very close and yeah, but
- 34:00the Godfather of the opposition, he really made that his own and
- 34:05really showed what a versatile. Acker could look like on the
- 34:11field between those big interceptions, he had big hits
- 34:16stuff in the Run, getting out in the flat and just lay in guys
- 34:20out. That's what playing backers all
- 34:23about and he did it at a very high level.
- 34:27He did it man. And over, you know, 40 games in
- 34:30his career started, 291 tackles 34 loss, 11 sacks And all you
- 34:39gotta always look back at 2007, when literally, we were the
- 34:45number one defense in the country.
- 34:48I think they gave up 11 points a game 115, tackles 12 or loss,
- 34:54that means he's everywhere at backer.
- 34:56Yep. That's 10 plus a game which is
- 35:00just crazy to think about crazy to think about.
- 35:05I'll let you do the honors with the last one here.
- 35:07Well, I mean, I got men are be a zone 5 star, high school,
- 35:16All-American from Highland Springs.
- 35:20From 2005 to 2008, he roamed the defensive backfield.
- 35:26And a unbelievable member of DBU and Macho Harris.
- 35:32Victor Macho Harris. Joe, you know, shout out to
- 35:38Charlie Christian, who was a coach at Highland Springs.
- 35:41When Macho was coming through the ranks there.
- 35:47I mean, what more can you say is?
- 35:49First-team All-American? He won an ACC title his senior
- 35:56year, six interceptions, eight pass breakups.
- 36:02I mean and you know intercept, if you threw him his way and he
- 36:08jumped the ball, every quarterback feared, it was going
- 36:12to get house because he was that Dynamic of an athlete.
- 36:16If you that Dynamic of an athlete, he wasn't a five-star
- 36:19for any reason. I mean, No.
- 36:24He was our program boundary corner.
- 36:28He was a boundary corner. Right.
- 36:32He was the epitome of it. Either can come up, make a play
- 36:35in The Run. You got is going to stick to you
- 36:37in the past. The guy that's going to house
- 36:39it. If he makes the play on the ball
- 36:42and and just intimidation Macho was a physical player.
- 36:49Yes, he in. And we don't see a ton of that
- 36:54and and he was as physical as a player at the corner position as
- 36:58you could have. But because he had the
- 37:00athleticism, he Play physical. He could do whatever he wanted.
- 37:04Yeah, he could play off, he could Jan you.
- 37:07I mean, he had forty six, tackles in that senior year for
- 37:11any defensive back to even get near 50.
- 37:14It tells what Brian said, he's physically.
- 37:16He was not afraid to stick his nose and he was not afraid to go
- 37:18tackle someone so that group you know in general all of them
- 37:26deserve the honors but those three football players, you
- 37:30know, it's cool. To see them go in.
- 37:34It's Kevin. See guys like that go in and the
- 37:37last to especially for our generation and you know many of
- 37:40y'all are out there that listen that might be somewhere between
- 37:4430 and 40 close to our age. These are the guys you remember
- 37:50we also reminisce about it because that's what we want to
- 37:53get back to. And, you know, it's possible,
- 37:58you know, it's possible. It's an uphill climb right now
- 38:00from where we are but it is possible.
- 38:03Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 38:05We can get there. We can get there.
- 38:07Alright, Braun before we go into looking at knowing the enemy and
- 38:11Duke, we are going to take a quick pause for a message from
- 38:14our corporate sponsor. Because we take a quick break,
- 38:17we'd like to tell you about getting your free website report

- 38:35forward slash free Dash website, Dash report.
- 38:39Now back to the episode All right Brian, let's take a look
- 38:44at Duke here. The three and six Duke Blue
- 38:47Devils will give you a very scary thing.
- 38:49Here, they are 0 and 5 and Conference.
- 38:54Last two teams we have played who have not won a conference
- 38:57game. They both made us their Get
- 39:00Right game. I hope that's not the case this
- 39:03weekend. Yeah, we've already given away
- 39:06to First ACC win of the years. So something we cannot, we
- 39:11cannot afford another one. Nah, not on Hall of Fame weekend
- 39:16and now on the on Senior Day, alright, not against Duke, not
- 39:20against. B.
- 39:23Oh dude, 1425 defense not a really good defense at all, you
- 39:29know, red zone, defense 110th, you get down there, you're
- 39:31probably going to score against them their best to testicle line
- 39:35is they are tied for 73 in sacks, about flew over to a
- 39:39game. One of the worst down And one of
- 39:43the worst third bounce top teams in the country.
- 39:45It, you know, at 48 percent, they're giving up so.
- 39:50But they still have some players that have some good statistics
- 39:54and look pretty good on tape. And let's start with Dwayne
- 39:57Carter. Brian, number 90, High 3 star
- 39:59out of Pinkerton Ohio, six-foot-three 300-pound
- 40:03defensive tackles so far this year, twenty six, tackles four
- 40:08and a half sacks. This is the impressive.
- 40:09Number two, impressive numbers for me 4/4.
- 40:12Bowls three pass deflections. So in that big guy gets you he's
- 40:17trying to get the ball out and he is probably why he's getting
- 40:22some mention of seen a couple times when I was searching this
- 40:25week. And I fell Scouts NFL Scouts
- 40:29three pass deflections saying you're not keeping him here.
- 40:32He's getting his hands up. What are you seeing on the tape
- 40:35from the big guy? Yeah, I mean he has an excellent
- 40:37pass rush for a nose and he has a good sense of awareness.
- 40:41That when if He's not there. As you said he's getting his
- 40:45hands up. He does a good job of when he
- 40:48gets to the quarterback finishing the play.
- 40:50That's why you're seeing some of those forced fumbles.
- 40:53He also holds the Gap pretty well in the run.
- 40:56So that's another thing to watch.
- 40:58He's not going to get moved out of the gap on the interior,
- 41:01they're very much and he's got a good motor for a 300-pounder so
- 41:05he keeps working at it. He doesn't give up on plays or
- 41:08anything like that. Is he one of these guys on the
- 41:10inside? That's not only getting
- 41:12production. But is he helping his outside
- 41:14guys out as well? Yeah, I mean they can't exactly
- 41:18on his side of the ball. They're not able to essentially
- 41:21devote an extra interior guy to help the tackle.
- 41:24It's going to have to be a chip with a running back or a tight
- 41:26end. So essentially you're having to
- 41:29vote because of him you're essentially having to take
- 41:32someone out of the pass routes. To assist with them.
- 41:38Yeah. I mean the guards definitely
- 41:39going to have to give give a hand to the center, unless
- 41:43there's a blitz coming. So he's not somebody where you
- 41:46can let the guard, you know, work work in tandem with the
- 41:50tackle on any sort of block there.
- 41:52All right, so keep an eye on number 90 there in the middle,
- 41:55especially with the banged up Brock this week.
- 42:00You know, it's going to be definitely a big thing.
- 42:03All right, let's flip next Braun to shock a Howard. 42 amid 3
- 42:07star, who's out of the Mill Creek, Georgia six-foot-four,
- 42:10220 pounds Hurley, a tackling machine for them.
- 42:13Seventy four total, tackles 94 loss including three sacks and
- 42:18interceptions whereas he will, my course, am he's the Mike.
- 42:24He's kind of the quarterback of their defense.
- 42:27He does a lot for them. He's their primary run Blitzer,
- 42:33he's a good tackler. He's only average block shatter.
- 42:36He doesn't do a great job of getting off blocks once he's
- 42:38fully engaged, but he comes downhill.
- 42:41Really hard, makes plays when that.
- 42:43That run blitz is called. He did, force that safety
- 42:47against Pitt. I don't know if you saw the that
- 42:50game on the tape there but turnover on Downs.
- 42:54Deep in the end, their neck, very next play run blitz, he
- 42:58gets up in there. Stymies the lead Blocker in the
- 43:02hole and then holds up the running.
- 43:05Back until everybody else gets there to finish off the tackle
- 43:09and he does a good job in his own coverage.
- 43:11He's not suspect, they're either.
- 43:14He does a pretty good job holding up there.
- 43:16He will get beat if he's matched up against an elite athlete.
- 43:19But if he's matched up against a running back or a tight end or a
- 43:23slower slot receiver, he can hold his own.
- 43:27All right so it sounds like a pretty well-rounded linebacker
- 43:30there then. Yeah one we can't key in on and
- 43:34say well he's batting covers less attack there.
- 43:36Although the way are passing game is look, that's not good
- 43:39and it's not obviously you talk about good tackler and average
- 43:43said of the blocker, sometimes at the Collegiate level, that's
- 43:45all you need to be. Right, I'd say the problem with
- 43:52running right at him is that you're also running right at the
- 43:56previous, man. We mentioned in Dwayne, Carter,
- 44:00so it's kind of a catch-22, but running right at him is probably
- 44:06the best option just because you can get it a man had on hat on
- 44:10him and force him to shed that block.
- 44:14All right, sounds good, let's look it over and let's look at a
- 44:16couple. Hello, guys, on the secondary
- 44:18here. Let's start with gloomy young.
- 44:19The fourth number 23. A top 10 player in South
- 44:23Carolina when he came out a mid three.
- 44:25Start a Westside, High School, six 1205.
- 44:29Also some pretty good statistics here. 60, tackles only one pick
- 44:36but five pass deflections and two forced fumbles from him.
- 44:42I know you've told me, Brian, he is the Rover, so, he is closer
- 44:45to the line. What does he bring?
- 44:47Really good that we've got to look out for because again this
- 44:52isn't a bad defense but we're highlighting their best players
- 44:55that these players have good game.
- 44:58We're going to be in trouble. Yeah and I mean he's your
- 45:02typical in the Box. Strong safety, really good.
- 45:04Tackler big hitter does a really good job.
- 45:07Making tackles in the spill area in terms of his coverage skills.
- 45:13He's much better in zone than he is in man coverage and Some of
- 45:17the stats, you spoke of kind of speak to that, right?
- 45:20He will get beat in man coverage, but in zone, when it's
- 45:23more read and react, he does a good job of getting an impact.
- 45:27At the point of catch, forcing some of those fumbles, breaking
- 45:32up some of those passes. So if we can get him matched up
- 45:36and man man situation, that's going to be the way to attack
- 45:39him, I would ask this. I would say we've been talking
- 45:43about it all year and they still hadn't done it, would this be a
- 45:46game? Game where we should be
- 45:49deploying like Raheem Blackshear given to back looks and appoint
- 45:54him to essentially force him to play him, man.
- 46:00If we could, I think they do a lot of like, quarters that
- 46:05become man coverage depending on the route tree, they do some
- 46:09press man. It's a lot of at the line of
- 46:11scrimmage type stuff with the corners.
- 46:13We haven't got there yet, but we'll get there next, actually,
- 46:18but you just kind of going through their coverage.
- 46:22That could force them in some sort of mismatched situation
- 46:25where you get a guy that's maybe a little more suspect in man
- 46:28coverage. Judge with an athlete.
- 46:30That he's probably not comfortable covering.
- 46:33All right. Well let's go ahead.
- 46:35Let's let's talk about the outside.
- 46:37Who will he be covering trade Turner willing?
- 46:39Not, we don't know until probably Saturday 30 to 45
- 46:43minutes before game time guys. Jeremiah Lewis.
- 46:46Number 39 at a Plano Texas was a three-star.
- 46:49When he came out 612, she's in 1990 last year.
- 46:55He was a top ten past, deflector, past defender.
- 46:58In the ACC with seven this year 2:03 flexion.
- 47:03Two picks 22, tackles this far, and obviously, he is a
- 47:07cornerback. So what do you see it on the
- 47:09tape from him? He's the best cover Corner.
- 47:12They have. He's not necessarily Elite but
- 47:14he's very solid and coverage. Does a good job of sticking with
- 47:19man and based on their scheme and his skill set.
- 47:22They do a lot of Pressman. Again that comes into sometimes.
- 47:25Press press quarters depending on whether it's a zone or a man
- 47:28called there. But he challenges challenges
- 47:32receivers at the line of scrimmage really well and still
- 47:35able to run with the receivers throughout the route.
- 47:38He is suspect against the Run especially if he's asked to set
- 47:42the edge. If he's if he's that backside.
- 47:45Edge Defender. If you have the tight end kind
- 47:49of uncovered by a receiver there where he's got kind of edge
- 47:54responsibilities. He does not do a good job there.
- 47:58So that's that's one area where we might be able to kind of
- 48:01scheme scheme. Him into trouble.
- 48:05All right, so Is he is he just staying with the best receiver.
- 48:11When you see him or is sitting more he's going to be to one
- 48:14side of the field. He primarily sticks to one side
- 48:19of the field, okay? He's usually to the right.
- 48:23So it's so just the right? So regardless of where the ball
- 48:27is, he's always on the right side of the field, if it would
- 48:30be, if his band goes in motion, he'll Chase if it's depending on
- 48:33the coverage but he's more than likely going to stick with with
- 48:37the right side if it's a Zone look, okay, I only ask that
- 48:42because in those situations where if he's always on the
- 48:45right regardless of The coverage of where the sets or anything
- 48:49like that. Does that make it a little bit
- 48:51harder to attack him in the Run game?
- 48:53Because essentially, they, we know he's over here, we can
- 48:57send, you know, we can send, we can send you on over there.
- 49:03We can let the linebackers flow that way.
- 49:06He's the liability, That's what I think that's why I'm asking
- 49:10that. Yeah, I mean you can kind of
- 49:13essentially try to hide him. But I mean, if you go You know,
- 49:20trips right with the tight end to the left.
- 49:26You know, we flip that that means he's the the right corner
- 49:29back on the tight end side. You know you're in a situation
- 49:33where he's going to have some enter sponsibility there along
- 49:37with man coverage against the tight end depending on the
- 49:42obviously the play call into the the scheme call for the, for the
- 49:45coverage. But if it is a either zone or
- 49:50something like that, then you put him in a situation where
- 49:53he's, he's staying on the right hand side with tight end and now
- 49:57you've got a mismatch got it. So let's hope that we can get to
- 50:02run to his side of the field, and definitely make some leeway.
- 50:06There I'm Ron. Let's flip it over to the
- 50:08offensive side of the field for the Duke Blue Devils.
- 50:14And just just some highlight, everybody know it's a cut lip
- 50:17off thence, we've seen it for roughly 22 years to his credit.
- 50:21It's not stayed the same. It's variations of things.
- 50:25He did 25 years ago. Tennessee.
- 50:28It's wrinkles. You never know what he's going
- 50:30to throw and, you know, to me they are a tail really between
- 50:36the 20s, they're similar to us total offense there, 31 in the
- 50:41country, 443 yards game, they are getting a ton of yards.
- 50:48But scoring their 90th. Only averaging 25 points a game.
- 50:53They're absolutely. They're worse than us in Red
- 50:56Zone. Efficiency at 101. 21, you know,
- 51:00only converting 70% of their chances.
- 51:04They are, but in the red zone. They, yeah, you have absolute.
- 51:08But it's definitely their past three.
- 51:11Passing touchdowns on 35 attempts, inside the red zone,
- 51:15Three. We got more than that.
- 51:19Yep, you look at their passing game.
- 51:20We don't even have a good offensive coordinator, but let's
- 51:23talk about the guy that makes this Offense Code, Mateo,
- 51:26Durant, number 21, a low 3 star out of McCormick South Carolina
- 51:3161 195 already over 1000 yards. This year impressive.
- 51:38Five yards of carry 11. Total touchdowns 9 running to
- 51:45receiving. He's not a one way back.
- 51:48Like we saw last week with BC. He can do it both 23, receptions
- 51:53over, 200 yards, averaging about ten per, what are you seeing?
- 51:58Because he's getting some Buzz where he might potentially leave
- 52:01correct. Yeah I mean as you said, he's
- 52:04already over 1000 yards, he's really the the second best Back
- 52:08in terms of production in the ACC this year, he's patient
- 52:13between the tackles has great vision, really good
- 52:16acceleration. If he runs to the edge, they
- 52:19like to swing it out to him in the passing game.
- 52:22They'll also run wheels and stuff like that with and so it's
- 52:24not just a screen or a swing game.
- 52:26There's also some wheel routes thrown in there, but he does a
- 52:30really good job of get taking what the defense is giving them.
- 52:35And I think that's why he's been so efficient is because I mean
- 52:39that it's not a, we're going to talk about the offensive line,
- 52:41it's not up, the elite offensive line but he takes once there, he
- 52:45gets the yards and they line up and do it again so consistency.
- 52:51I'm assuming he doesn't get tackled a lot in the backfield,
- 52:55not very much a guy that is always getting some yardage.
- 53:01Unless that, you know, there's a perfect call on the on the
- 53:03defensive side with the run blitz.
- 53:05He's getting some positive yards and he Is a good job of running
- 53:09through arm, tackles between those between the tackles as
- 53:12well. All right.
- 53:15Let's go next. Brian let's look at the
- 53:17quarterback. Before we flip to the offensive
- 53:19line Gunner. Holmberg number 12, pretty high.
- 53:21Three story came out of Wake Forest, North Carolina at
- 53:23Heritage High School 63. 205 passing has a little bit to be
- 53:29desired though. He's in you expect that with the
- 53:32really good running back but I think the ones that you would
- 53:35expect to be significantly higher 2034 passing yards and
- 53:39the nine games this year. But less than eight per attempt
- 53:44like 7.7 per attempt. That's having a guy that good
- 53:49run. You want that to be over ten
- 53:52seven, touchdown six pics, not really a running threat, only
- 53:58less than 200 yards, but he's averaging to a carry, but he
- 54:03does have six touchdowns. So he is an actual running
- 54:07threat down in the red zone. What are you seeing out of a
- 54:12home bird there? Yes, I'll start with a fun fact.
- 54:16My wife taught with his mom when we live down in Raleigh.
- 54:19So we're definitely. Yeah, so fun fact.
- 54:24Number one, I knew, I knew Gunner Holmberg was going to
- 54:28Duke in like 2016 real 2017. Yeah.
- 54:34Well, so I was like, okay, well, you know, we'll see.
- 54:40We'll see if he ends up being a starter one day.
- 54:41Here he is. He's a starter, he's accurate,
- 54:45especially in the short to intermediate range, and that's
- 54:48primarily the bread-and-butter this offense.
- 54:51He's got good pocket awareness, he's got decent deep accuracy,
- 54:55but he lacks some of the true like vertical threat arm
- 54:59strength. He can definitely make a good
- 55:01throw 40 yards but he's not a guy that's really stretching the
- 55:04feel like that consistently and even when he's got.
- 55:08Got an open guy. Sometimes he sacrifices accuracy
- 55:12for distance and vice versa, so you'll see some trade-off when
- 55:18he tries to strike deep down, the field like that, okay.
- 55:22Is that really a threat in the running game but he's got enough
- 55:25athleticism to scramble when needed and they use him heavily.
- 55:29If they get inside the five, I mean, it's pretty much either.
- 55:32He's throwing a fade or they're running a sneak, which is kind
- 55:36of it. Baffles the mind a little bit
- 55:39with having such a good running back.
- 55:41So I'm thinking looking at it and then we'll talk about the
- 55:44offensive line here. It's kind of like our situation
- 55:47where that offensive line is more designed for middle of the
- 55:52field and not necessarily designed to push guys off the
- 55:55ball. That's so let's talk.
- 55:59Let's talk about the offensive line.
- 56:01Obviously, when a guy rushes for 1000, they can't be absolutely
- 56:05Dreadful. I mean, you know, they are
- 56:08giving up about six tackles for losses of game, but I think the
- 56:13way you've been talking about Holmberg, that's probably more
- 56:15on him being able to get away from pressure and probably
- 56:18getting tackled Outside The Tackle Box, where it's not a
- 56:22sack, it's considered a tackle for loss, not terrible about
- 56:26getting upset. Acts bout mid-pack about in the
- 56:3060s, has low 70. So you know he's not a Sitting
- 56:35Duck back there with them. So what's makes them, why is the
- 56:40combination of this offensive line and Mateo Durant?
- 56:44Why are they so good running the ball?
- 56:47So between the 20s there, good running the ball because they
- 56:49have a lot of quick hitting inside please, that they are
- 56:53really good at blocking up and Zoning up.
- 56:57The, the Trap is one of them. That's, that's really their
- 56:59bread and butter. They also love the inside Zone,
- 57:03and but the combination would Te'o Durant in the, the strength
- 57:06of his offensive line really makes those two please go for
- 57:09them. It's definitely there. 100%
- 57:11their bread and butter and they're above average in past
- 57:14Pro. They do a good job.
- 57:17The scheme helps them because it is a lot of quick passes you
- 57:22from the 5 to 20 yard range. They're not going down the field
- 57:26a whole lot. So there's not a ton of you
- 57:29know, 45 second pass Pro going on.
- 57:31It's more of the the 24 second pass Pro and they're holding up
- 57:36well there, but there are awful and goal to go situations,
- 57:42especially running the ball. They are not designed to just
- 57:46fire off and Move the other defensive line.
- 57:50They are very much they meet, they need more room to work
- 57:54with. So when you're down at the goal
- 57:56line and you're in your splits, tighten up and there's a lot of
- 57:59guys in not just inside the box, but within the first 2 yards of
- 58:04the ball, they don't do a very good job of getting to push.
- 58:07Their, I saw Holmberg have about two, it looked very similar to
- 58:13what we're dealing with having about two or three goes.
- 58:17A quarterback sneak and getting nothing just fucking nothing.
- 58:21Well, our I mean, is it, I mean, he's a little bigger.
- 58:26I mean, is it just they can't fire or is it just there that
- 58:30finesse of a line that undersized when they get there?
- 58:34It's like you can't fire your not big enough to fire into most
- 58:39division one offensive line or defensive lives.
- 58:42It's a little of both, they're a little undersized but also just
- 58:47The the way their style, it's more of a moving guys out of
- 58:54gaps. Laterally than moving guys off
- 58:56the ball. Okay, I got you.
- 59:00That makes sense. That makes sense.
- 59:02Was it a lot of fun watching this when I hear you talk about
- 59:04traps and inside Zone? I know that's highly love traps
- 59:09Man. Trap traps are my favorite.
- 59:12Fuck, I sound like Fred from Scooby-Doo.
- 59:28Jen's 609 yards over 14, her reception only three scores
- 59:38comes out of South Side, High School in Greenville, South
- 59:40Carolina. 511 190. He's a myth 3 star when he comes
- 59:45out. Ex-wife lot.
- 59:49Where we see them lining up, Brian.
- 59:51He's your slot and he does a really good job on their kind of
- 59:58Quick short passes inside the slide, you're out your Slants,
- 1:00:01he's got great, quickness coming in and out of routes, but they
- 1:00:04also use him up the seam and that if they're going deep, it's
- 1:00:12usually him off of some sort of play-action attacking the middle
- 1:00:16of the field. Okay.
- 1:00:20All right, well, let me ask this, are they primarily in
- 1:00:23three-wide sets? Pretty much every down there at
- 1:00:27least going three wide occasionally, they'll run in an
- 1:00:30extra tight in HVAC but usually they're going three wide with
- 1:00:37the kind of HVAC. They use in either in line or in
- 1:00:42the backfield. All right, so what will be your
- 1:00:46expectation for us? How much should we run nickel,
- 1:00:50getting strong, Chapman and Waller out there to cover him
- 1:00:54and letting Connor Play on the inside.
- 1:01:00I don't want to do it too much just because of how much they
- 1:01:03run between the tackles, okay. Does that worry then with
- 1:01:08Calhoun on to my I think? No not not too much just because
- 1:01:13I feel like they don't they're not successful hitting down
- 1:01:16field that much. Okay, so while we are suspect in
- 1:01:20that in that coverage responsibility I don't think
- 1:01:23it'll bite us for the home runs. I think you might keep us on the
- 1:01:27field a little longer than we like to here and there but it's
- 1:01:32not going to end up with six on the board.
- 1:01:34Very often guy that makes Sense. All right, Brian.
- 1:01:38Tell me if you've heard this before.
- 1:01:41Six foot five, 220 lb tight end. Every week, a six foot five, 220
- 1:01:51lb tight end. Or somewhere in there.
- 1:01:55That's Jake Bobo number 19 out of Belmont.
- 1:01:59Massachusetts mid 3 star when he came out 59 perception 635 yards
- 1:02:06right at 11 per reception, only one touchdown this year.
- 1:02:10What are you seeing out of Jake Bo Bo Ryan?
- 1:02:13Yeah, they really don't use them as a tight end.
- 1:02:16They use them as a wider. I mean he's essentially Bucky
- 1:02:18Hodges. Okay.
- 1:02:20Yeah. I mean, he's really a wide
- 1:02:22receiver. They use them outside.
- 1:02:27Sometimes, they'll put him in the slot, sometimes they'll put
- 1:02:29him on line, but usually he's outside and he's there.
- 1:02:33Stick mover. He will occasionally get a deep
- 1:02:37Target here. They're usually some sort of
- 1:02:39like Corner route where they get him isolated.
- 1:02:44But he'll run the full route tree and they will Target him a
- 1:02:48lot in the Red Zone. Usually, with the fade.
- 1:02:53Makes sense being six foot five so he's not he's not the age
- 1:02:59back in line tied into they got another guy that does that.
- 1:03:03Yep the this he's primarily that Bucky Hodges 2016 type really
- 1:03:08big wide receiver. So let me ask this is that who
- 1:03:11Waller needs to be on? Yeah, I put water on him.
- 1:03:16Almost exclusively if I could. All right and makes sense here.
- 1:03:21Well Brian we've talked enough about them, we've given
- 1:03:24everybody some insight to what they do some of their key
- 1:03:27players. But we've got to now talk about
- 1:03:29the Hokies because you know, in this Kappa version a lot of the
- 1:03:35stuff that we've already talked about.
- 1:03:37You're going to hear again, it needs to be emphasized but it's
- 1:03:42really funny because No. The symbolization of a Kappa is
- 1:03:48the palm of the hand, right? Yep.
- 1:03:51And you kind of think about it. This is a poem in the hand
- 1:03:56Victory. We're better than them.
- 1:04:00Right. We're better than we have more
- 1:04:03Talent we're at home we even had an extra day to prepare but it
- 1:04:11worries Us in Braun. Let's let's start offensive ly.
- 1:04:15I know what you're going to say, pound the table say it.
- 1:04:19Continue the commitment to the running game, pound the football
- 1:04:25run. It run, even though they have
- 1:04:28some guys who care and help stop the run overall, they're not
- 1:04:33built that way and with Blackshear, and Malachi.
- 1:04:38Averaging five last week against a significantly better front.
- 1:04:42Seven front six. Yep, don't go away from.
- 1:04:46Don't get fancy. Don't get cute.
- 1:04:47Don't get smart. If those guys each aren't close
- 1:04:52to 15 to 20 for both of them, it will be a disappointment.
- 1:04:57Yep. So I'm ready for that actually.
- 1:05:01So for the second one, I don't know if you've heard this one
- 1:05:05before. This is an oldie but a goodie
- 1:05:08get whoever is quarterback comfortable early and we did not
- 1:05:13do that against BC. We did didn't hardly throw a
- 1:05:16pass for most of the first half and by the time we started, To
- 1:05:19throw in the past, as we weren't completing them because we were
- 1:05:22taking shots, get these damn quarterbacks comfortable early.
- 1:05:26Whether it's BB, whether it's knocks, whether it's Taj.
- 1:05:31And if BB is out, I better see Taj take some snaps.
- 1:05:35Well you know if for nothing else get ties in there to run
- 1:05:41the Run dip because Knox is not a threat.
- 1:05:45Knox is not a threat for right? If you, if you want to have any
- 1:05:48semblance of read option or RPO or any of that shit, you better
- 1:05:52get tossed out there. Yeah.
- 1:05:53Do we expect them to start us talking with a buddy today at
- 1:05:56work? No, I do not expect them to
- 1:05:58start, but he needs to wear it for.
- 1:06:00He can play in every game from here on out.
- 1:06:02If we make a bowl Italy every game, there needs to be packages
- 1:06:07for that kid. You need to get him on the field
- 1:06:09and see what he's got. And if he runs the ball and
- 1:06:12that's it, that's fine. At least you give more of Double
- 1:06:15threat to running the ball to your point about comfortable
- 1:06:19early. I'm not even going to talk to
- 1:06:23you. If the first three passes our
- 1:06:24past 15 yards because you're going to be in a grumpy mood,
- 1:06:28the rest of the afternoon, like, idiot, we have this opportunity
- 1:06:33and you do, we're gonna have to take a shot here, they're
- 1:06:35against the seam because they do play that press.
- 1:06:38But You still can get these opportunities from guys, that
- 1:06:43aren't named, Trey, and Tay. You don't have to always look
- 1:06:47outside. You still have H backs, you
- 1:06:50still have tight ends. You still have slot receivers.
- 1:06:54There is such a thing as the middle of the field.
- 1:06:58I don't know if you've heard of it but we should actually attack
- 1:07:01that from time to time. We do an awful job of attacking
- 1:07:05the middle of feel especially in the intermediate area.
- 1:07:09That's where we need to focus. And I don't know if it's a not
- 1:07:15seeing the field issue by the quarterback, whether it's a,
- 1:07:18just not, not emphasizing it by our coordinator, I don't know,
- 1:07:24but it's something but. I mean, we're close to dead last
- 1:07:27in intermediate passes inside the hashes.
- 1:07:30Well, we weren't great last year and or even the early part of
- 1:07:33this year with James and James is an absolute rather, the
- 1:07:36middle of people Yep. It's like there's this area
- 1:07:41where a lot of times it can become void, right?
- 1:07:45How many times just watching any level of football, high school
- 1:07:50college or Pro that the middle of the field?
- 1:07:53Gets voided now, and one of the best schematic offensive
- 1:07:56coordinators, know how to manipulate to get holes in the
- 1:08:00middle of the field wide open, and it's easy passes.
- 1:08:04It's easier passes because it's literally straight, but will
- 1:08:09digress on that. I hope be be there.
- 1:08:13I think BB you play and I know he's, he took a shot to the ribs
- 1:08:19but if he can throw, he was thrown on the Cylon he was just
- 1:08:22in pain. Yeah, what I think will happen
- 1:08:25is I think he will get a cortisone shot.
- 1:08:28And for three quarters of the game, he won't feel it.
- 1:08:32And starting the fourth he will. And return of perk my sister,
- 1:08:39you know, maybe the other big thing.
- 1:08:42Brian and and I think this is an absolute must is because they're
- 1:08:46not a good team. We have to score early, it does
- 1:08:49not have to be often, but we've got to put I think at least 14
- 1:08:54points up by halftime. Yep.
- 1:08:58I'm with you, we've got to score against these guys because they
- 1:09:00will move the ball, which means, unless they're going for it on
- 1:09:03Fourth, like they did a handful of times against Pitt last week.
- 1:09:10They're going to have moments where they're going to at least
- 1:09:13get field goals on these drives. We got to, at least at least
- 1:09:17match that if not put, put it in the end zone ourselves and I'd
- 1:09:21love to trade touchdowns for field goals against Duke,
- 1:09:25because then then we can make some make some hey there.
- 1:09:29What worries me is if we get into field goal fight with them.
- 1:09:34Yep, that is the worst and far here.
- 1:09:38All right Braun, let's flip over to defense.
- 1:09:40Let's talk about it. They are a good running team.
- 1:09:45We saw what happened last week now.
- 1:09:47Luckily that was more of a power scheme will bit more push
- 1:09:50around. This is more finesse what has to
- 1:09:53go on the defensive line and the linebacking corps.
- 1:09:58All the front six much better Gap.
- 1:10:00Integrity this week than against BC and it should be easier.
- 1:10:03Sledding this week, you're not playing as physical of offensive
- 1:10:07line. It's more finesse.
- 1:10:08Yeah, they run the traps good but you need to hold their Gap.
- 1:10:12Make sure that you're not. Making a good hole, a great hole
- 1:10:17and make sure that your linebackers are filling timely.
- 1:10:21So you're not at the second level with Mateo Durant and
- 1:10:27going hand-in-hand with that man.
- 1:10:28You gotta tackle, you gotta tackle.
- 1:10:30Tackle tackle tackle because we have not done that.
- 1:10:33Well, the last few weeks either we have not done it well at all.
- 1:10:38I don't think we've actually had a really good tackling game
- 1:10:42since middle Tennessee. See.
- 1:10:45That sounds about right that sound about right?
- 1:10:49And when I say that, I don't mean.
- 1:10:50Has there been quarters? Where we have tackled great?
- 1:10:52Yes. Absolutely.
- 1:10:54There have been quarters where we tackle great in the one thing
- 1:10:58that you mentioned about Durant, that's a little bit more
- 1:11:04worrisome than the BC back. Is you mentioned that
- 1:11:06acceleration to the edge? You know, when we talk about the
- 1:11:12tackling, if we don't tackle him, it's not going to be what
- 1:11:18we talked about last week, the less than 20.
- 1:11:20How many we kept them less than 20?
- 1:11:22I think you could break a big one.
- 1:11:24I really feel that because of the couple times of watch them,
- 1:11:29you talking about that acceleration?
- 1:11:31It's not going to be this always slow them down and then we got
- 1:11:35him. Six yards later, I know you're
- 1:11:37going to slowing down. You're going to get about 16
- 1:11:39yards later. For 26 yards, later.
- 1:11:44So you know tackle, I don't know, I know it's getting later
- 1:11:49in the season but they've got to get that somewhat corrected in
- 1:11:53these next three games. Absolutely.
- 1:11:55Yeah. All right.
- 1:11:56Last big piece here Braun. They do have a tendency to turn
- 1:12:01the ball over. I think we need to lease be a
- 1:12:06plus 2. Yeah, I think we do a plus 2.
- 1:12:12I think we win the game comfortably.
- 1:12:14If it said yeah 0, or they win it.
- 1:12:20Get your drinks out. It's really locks out.
- 1:12:24Get your Tylenol out. It's not going to be a fun game
- 1:12:27to watch as it gets later. Yeah.
- 1:12:30And just talking about the turnovers Gunners prone to a bad
- 1:12:35decision here. There there was a fumbled
- 1:12:38exchange at the 1-yard line against Pitt that pretty much
- 1:12:43took at least three points off the board for Duke.
- 1:12:45So and they had had a previous fumble on that same Drive.
- 1:12:49That they got on so they will put the ball in the turf.
- 1:12:53They will throw it to you. We just got to capitalize on
- 1:12:57those. Make sure we get turnovers there
- 1:13:00and I think if we like you said, if we win the turnover battle
- 1:13:02especially when it by 2, I think that sets us up pretty good.
- 1:13:07All right. Brian prediction time, I lived
- 1:13:10last week you leave this week, sir.
- 1:13:13I think this is closer than we want it to be, but I think we
- 1:13:16pull it out. I've got the Hokies winning.
- 1:13:19420. All right yeah definitely closer
- 1:13:23than what the experts think. I mean it was actually let me
- 1:13:26pull up one of the apps I have here this game.
- 1:13:32As of 11:30 Eastern Standard Time, on a Wednesday night is,
- 1:13:37we're laying 11 and a half. It had a Sonata that's asked on
- 1:13:44a mount for a team that just lost to Boston College and got
- 1:13:48handled and we don't know if their quarterback starting.
- 1:13:50Exactly. So maybe they know he is
- 1:13:52starving. Um, The over unders 50.
- 1:13:56They're saying, we're winning this game like 3120 that if we
- 1:14:01go plus 2 in the turnover. Yeah.
- 1:14:04But if you're saying everything is going to be, even I'll still
- 1:14:07think we win this game. I think we pull one out for the
- 1:14:10seniors for the Hall of Fame, guys.
- 1:14:12I'm gonna go 2720 at, think we get one more score than what you
- 1:14:20think. I can kick some probably, some,
- 1:14:23we get a field goal early or Something and we always stay
- 1:14:26ahead of them. So we're both picking for the
- 1:14:29Hokies this week. We're not know dissenting
- 1:14:32opinions between first time, long time we've picked for the
- 1:14:36Hokies on the same week Richmond Richmond.
- 1:14:40Yeah, I think so. Well, the last games they want
- 1:14:45to. So let's roll on Brian.
- 1:14:48Let's take a look at our Saturday, pick them's Brian.
- 1:14:52After the five and five week. 85 and one I'm 5941 and one if you
- 1:15:00would have made every bet you would be in the plus category
- 1:15:03for us. So, I want to listen to us.
- 1:15:08We're doing alright, we're not doing bad.
- 1:15:12I mean, we're better than a coin flip.
- 1:15:14So we're better than a call. All right, Brian.
- 1:15:17We're going to start today UNC pit.
- 1:15:21I'll lead some time leading the thing and I'm gonna go with pit.
- 1:15:25I don't see six-and-a-half being enough for Carolina to cover.
- 1:15:31I mean, they gave up 55 to wake and I know wakes a good offense.
- 1:15:34So as pit I do think that was an emotional Victory or emotional
- 1:15:40game for Carolina and they needed a bunch of fluky stuff to
- 1:15:44win that game and to cover. But this is a Thursday night.
- 1:15:49So short week for both teams and it's at Pitt.
- 1:15:53There will not be much energy there that's why I'm going pit.
- 1:15:58I'm with you and it's got a lot to do.
- 1:16:01I'll be when you look at what happened last week with you and
- 1:16:04see they needed wakes running back to get injured and the
- 1:16:08offense to forget how to offense for most of the fourth quarter
- 1:16:13to pull that out. I don't see that happening
- 1:16:16again, spit. I think you're going to get a
- 1:16:21solid Kenny Pickett for most of the game.
- 1:16:24What's the what's the rent? A banach Anna.
- 1:16:26You're going to get, I can't say his name.
- 1:16:28You get a whole lot of him, and I think they're going to be able
- 1:16:32to win by about. I'd say, it's gonna be about a
- 1:16:36nine or ten pointer. All right, let's go and put in
- 1:16:39that game. All right, Brian.
- 1:16:40Let's take a look at this one. Syracuse Louisville.
- 1:16:42This is at Louisville. Louisville home favorite laying
- 1:16:463.2 you taken. I'm taking huge to win outright.
- 1:16:52I think they're gonna be able to run the ball, all game against
- 1:16:56them. I think Schrader's going to make
- 1:16:59enough plays in the passing game for it to be an outright win.
- 1:17:03Yeah, I'm with you on that. I'll take using the point.
- 1:17:05I do see them winning out right as well.
- 1:17:09You know, Louisville four and five had Clemson.
- 1:17:14Couldn't close the deal where Syracuse coming off a bye week,
- 1:17:19I'm on the verge of Bowl eligibility.
- 1:17:21On the burger, probably keeping Andy know his job and I think
- 1:17:26they get it done here with a very solid running game.
- 1:17:29Yeah, I think Sean Tucker is going to be satisfied with his
- 1:17:32performance. That that like, there's two,
- 1:17:38it's so great. It's almost like the your year
- 1:17:43end results for a company. Every day.
- 1:17:48Here's my setup. So, you know, it's awesome to
- 1:17:54see that. It's it makes you laugh.
- 1:17:56If you don't follow her, haven't caught it, you know, definitely
- 1:18:01do that the other Peace, you know?
- 1:18:08Louisville's almost giving up 28 points a game.
- 1:18:10I think Syracuse will get that plus a little bit more.
- 1:18:14Hey, Brian. I have to lead on this one too.
- 1:18:17I have no clue what the betting public is thinking, BC, Georgia,
- 1:18:22Tech. Yes.
- 1:18:23This game is at Bobby, Dodd Stadium and something Georgia
- 1:18:30Tech is getting the full to home field advantage.
- 1:18:34Jerk kovitch extra week back probably full week of practice.
- 1:18:38Getting the hand better solid running game.
- 1:18:40We know how bad Georgia Tech's running defense is.
- 1:18:44We saw that firsthand? I think BC not only wins out
- 1:18:49right. I think they make this thing
- 1:18:51like the 14, maybe Seventeen Point win.
- 1:18:56I don't think it's that much but I think it's a solid touchdown
- 1:18:59win for BC much like we described Heinz Field.
- 1:19:05Bobby Dodd is the opposite of electric.
- 1:19:09It is, it is not an atmosphere that gives really any home field
- 1:19:13advantage. But unlike Hines it also isn't
- 1:19:17dead to the point where the opposing team like a detriment
- 1:19:21G. Yeah, I'm just dead.
- 1:19:25Team. Yes.
- 1:19:26You feel the energy coming off? Well it's a little bit of a more
- 1:19:31comfortable State. Like Heinz is such is so big
- 1:19:37that we thousand seat Stadium will like 9,000 people there.
- 1:19:41Yeah it just it feels weird. Yeah I think Boston College is
- 1:19:46able to run the ball. I think they're with another
- 1:19:48week. You get your Kovac playing a
- 1:19:51little bit more crisp in the passing game.
- 1:19:53You'll see is a flowers have A few big game gainers in the
- 1:19:57passing game and I think they take care of business.
- 1:20:00All right, we're 343 I have a feeling, we're going to be
- 1:20:03similar on this one to FSU, Miami, a rivalry of our youth.
- 1:20:09That was unlike any other wide, right?
- 1:20:12One ride right to battles every year, fights every year.
- 1:20:18And I feel like this is might be the smelliest line of all.
- 1:20:23Miami is laying two and a half points and I know that, you
- 1:20:27know, this game is in Tallahassee. but, you know,
- 1:20:35people watching Florida State play in somebody.
- 1:20:40Well yeah they almost beat Clemson.
- 1:20:42Clemson is not the normal Clemson.
- 1:20:45What do you say on this? When you get to leave?
- 1:20:48I'm taking Miami. I think, I think it's just gonna
- 1:20:52be too much offense from Miami's in.
- 1:20:54I think they do just enough on defense to to keep it.
- 1:20:57I think it's still probably a one score game, but it's not,
- 1:21:00it's not coming down to the wire at the two and a half.
- 1:21:03Yeah, I'm with you on that. I don't, I don't see it as a
- 1:21:05huge blowout, but I can't lay two and a half points.
- 1:21:08That that she right now. They're not playing good enough
- 1:21:10football to, you know, to be Close.
- 1:21:16Yep. All right, UVA, Notre, Dame.
- 1:21:19This is at Scott Stadium, just up the street here.
- 1:21:22It's going to be a prime-time game. 7:30, ABC, we get the ACC
- 1:21:26Network, they get ABC, Notre Dame Lane five and a half and
- 1:21:36I'm going to take UVA in this one.
- 1:21:38I can't feel them winning out right.
- 1:21:41But I think their offense running Armstrong is playing
- 1:21:46actually. Take that back.
- 1:21:48Is he playing this week? Brian can you effort me real
- 1:21:50quick? Because now, I thought I already
- 1:21:55was playing, but now I'm double. Kicking myself.
- 1:22:03Let's see, status uncertain, mmm, but he hasn't been ruled
- 1:22:10out. So I mean that's Take back, good
- 1:22:14things about UVA. Take that back, take that back
- 1:22:19completely. Give me Notre Dame.
- 1:22:22If there is, if there is a potential he's not playing.
- 1:22:25That means he's probably not practicing this week.
- 1:22:28If those ribs are still sore, Marcus stream is going to pop
- 1:22:31him a couple times and he will not be playing the rest of the
- 1:22:34game. Kyle Hamilton will fly in there.
- 1:22:39Yeah, I'm actually going to go UVA here.
- 1:22:41I thought I still think that Notre Dame wins out right?
- 1:22:44But Notre Dame plays a lot of close games against Good
- 1:22:50competition. I think it's going to stay a
- 1:22:53close game. It's probably gonna be a for
- 1:22:54three-point victory for Notre Dame.
- 1:22:58UVA keeps it close. Obviously, that changes if
- 1:23:03Brandon Armstrong is a full, no go.
- 1:23:04But I think, even without the week of practice, I think they
- 1:23:06still are able to get things. Done enough on offense to keep
- 1:23:10it close. We'll see, My worry, is this,
- 1:23:12their defense is so bad and Notre Dame is a solid defense.
- 1:23:16I think it becomes one of those things Armstrong's not and if
- 1:23:20they get down early like 14-nothing 14-3, they're going
- 1:23:25to start forcing it even more than normal against a good back
- 1:23:28in and that's where things could get ugly.
- 1:23:32Although, I think, I think what Bronco will probably try to do,
- 1:23:35I think he'll probably try to crawl this game.
- 1:23:37I think if brings if he doesn't have Armstrong, he will grind it
- 1:23:40to a halt as much as possible. Yep, look for the football
- 1:23:45player, to take a lot of direct snaps God.
- 1:23:49All right, Brian next one up NC State Wake.
- 1:23:53A ranked battle in the ACC weight coming off.
- 1:23:56Their first loss of the year is getting just two points at home
- 1:24:04versus the Wolfpack. What do you say on this is the
- 1:24:09matchup of the ACC, right? I mean, this is the best.
- 1:24:13This is the best matchup in conference that we've had all
- 1:24:16year it in terms of ranked opponents in terms of Overall
- 1:24:20record. And I'm going to take n c--
- 1:24:25state. Because with running back out
- 1:24:31for Wake potentially, I haven't read any whether he's out for
- 1:24:35long-term or not, but he was carted off.
- 1:24:38I don't think he's going to be good enough to go in this one.
- 1:24:41I think that's the difference offenses and quite clicking,
- 1:24:45like it needs to NC State takes care of business.
- 1:24:48Yep, I'm with you on that. I'm going to take NC State as
- 1:24:51well. A, this is going to be the best
- 1:24:52defense. We get seen all year with a
- 1:24:55steady offense, the running back Per week.
- 1:24:59Plus if we can remember go back to 2019, when they came into the
- 1:25:03lane with what, two losses to close losses, we handled them.
- 1:25:11The rest of the season they weren't right.
- 1:25:13It seems like there's one thing about a Clausen team that they
- 1:25:16get punched in the mouth. It usually takes them multiple
- 1:25:19weeks to find recover. So I'm going to take the two
- 1:25:23points with NC State because I see an outright win.
- 1:25:26All right, bro, I got a really interesting for you when here
- 1:25:32and I'll life and time leading Marshall and UAB.
- 1:25:36Hmm, wonder why I want to talk about this game?
- 1:25:40I don't know, man. Man, I'm not sure if it has any
- 1:25:44tie-ins to Virginia Tech at all. I will you?
- 1:25:48No, no, no, nothing that I've heard of tie-in.
- 1:25:52Super jigna tech with Marshall or UAB.
- 1:25:56But just thought, if we talk about the Charles soft lead,
- 1:26:00Marshall Thundering Herd, it's six and three.
- 1:26:03You know, Charles Merrill is that Maryland, native turtles
- 1:26:06Huff. Maryland native.
- 1:26:08Charles Warren. Raising the DMV.
- 1:26:11Play four years of Collegiate football down at Hampton and has
- 1:26:16been on a great journey since then coached at Maryland.
- 1:26:19With region for a year been 10 years between Nick, Saban, Joe,
- 1:26:23Moorhead, and James Franklin, at Penn State really great
- 1:26:28recruiter of Virginia. I mean, he was stealing so many
- 1:26:32kids from Penn State while he was there.
- 1:26:35You know, the other thing wrong was also an associate head
- 1:26:38coach. For Nick Saban says, a lot about
- 1:26:40the movie is Yeah. Yeah, that sounds like a very
- 1:26:45solid solid head. Coach that Marshall has, they're
- 1:26:49very solid and Coach, let's talk about the game, all the game.
- 1:26:55Well, Marshalls laying five, this is a home game for them,
- 1:27:00you know? And don't get me wrong, you a be
- 1:27:05good in their own, right. They're both 6 and 3 and I'm
- 1:27:09just going to just throw this one out there.
- 1:27:11I'm going to give it to Huff, who after a three-game losing
- 1:27:15streak has, right at his ship and has his guys playing great
- 1:27:19winning three in a row. So I'm going to take Charles
- 1:27:22huff and the Marshall Thundering, Herd lady.
- 1:27:26I'm right there with you. It's down, yep, I'm right there
- 1:27:30with you. I think the huh, fled Thundering
- 1:27:32Herd. Take care of business.
- 1:27:36Hey, keep it moving, keep it rolling.
- 1:27:38Exactly. All right, got talk about hidden
- 1:27:42hooker, right? We got to, he's had a great
- 1:27:45year, he's a great year, he's on, he's on a few watch list for
- 1:27:50the or few list for the end of the year.
- 1:27:53He's getting more talked about potentially getting drafted.
- 1:27:57He's a little baby. A baby.
- 1:27:58A Brian semi-finalists lister's. Yeah something like that and
- 1:28:02he's like he went he went from unranked to light number six on
- 1:28:05some of The big boards for the NFL but he has a absolute
- 1:28:09monstrous task at hand down in Athens.
- 1:28:15They are getting 20 and a half points, but it's been kind of
- 1:28:21tumultuous this week down in Georgia.
- 1:28:23One of their linebackers getting arrested with a felony, rape
- 1:28:26charge, you know, something to 3:30 on, CBS, the line just went
- 1:28:34down to 20 Got 20 and a half. Georgia laying the points.
- 1:28:39What do you say to this one? Brian.
- 1:28:42I'm going to take Tennessee here.
- 1:28:44I think they keep it close enough.
- 1:28:48I haven't really seen a game that hendon's played in where
- 1:28:50anyone really ran away. I know.
- 1:28:52Ugh is a different Beast than everybody really on anyone's
- 1:28:57schedule yet, but I think just the combination of factors for
- 1:29:02Georgia and Hendon playing at a really high level.
- 1:29:07I think they do enough to to keep it closed.
- 1:29:09It's still probably 17 points but I think they, they keep it
- 1:29:16that close. So I'll take Tennessee here,
- 1:29:18that's the exact number I had in my head.
- 1:29:21I think Georgia wins this game 31:17.
- 1:29:26I think. Tendon keeps them in.
- 1:29:29I think he throws a couple good touchdown passes to keep them
- 1:29:32always Within Reach. I think Georgia constricts them
- 1:29:35later in the game and puts them out as what they can do.
- 1:29:41Because of the type of Defense, there are even losing a stud
- 1:29:44linebacker like they have this week.
- 1:29:47All right, Brian, will check this one real quick.
- 1:29:49Michigan Penn State little while ago, this line was one For Penn
- 1:29:54State. And actually it has flipped
- 1:29:58while I don't know why its flipped, but it is flipped
- 1:30:01Michigan Lane, one and a half. Now, let's make those updates to
- 1:30:06our sheets here. Yep.
- 1:30:10I gotta make an update. Yeah, somebody would say, can't
- 1:30:14you ever did them do this after the show?
- 1:30:15No, because when I get after the show, I'm going to bed.
- 1:30:19But, Michigan laying one and a half run.
- 1:30:23And I'll lay it on, I think missions a better team this
- 1:30:27year. They've had one bad quarter
- 1:30:29football all year and it costs them that game in East Lansing
- 1:30:36one of their two rivalry games of the year.
- 1:30:37So I mean it was a big game for them.
- 1:30:39It was a big thing. Yep, and I'm actually right
- 1:30:43there with you, I'm going to take Michigan here.
- 1:30:45I think that that I was going to have them as the outright winner
- 1:30:48when the line was one for Penn State.
- 1:30:51So I definitely have them today in the The W here.
- 1:30:54So I'll lay the one and a half. Yeah, I'm trying to figure out
- 1:30:58what's flipped on that game because I looked at that this
- 1:31:01afternoon and it was Penn State by one.
- 1:31:05So a two and a half Point Flip, not a three, and no, two and a
- 1:31:10half Point Flip. So interesting, I'll be doing
- 1:31:16some reading tomorrow or some listening tomorrow morning.
- 1:31:19All right, Brian? Finally game of the week.
- 1:31:23Probably one of the biggest games of the week especially for
- 1:31:26Oklahoma talked about last few, the nice.
- 1:31:29Next few weeks are going to be really big for them.
- 1:31:32They get the 13th ranked Baylor Bears.
- 1:31:36This is going to be in Waco. Oklahoma is the five and a half
- 1:31:41Point favorite? What do you say on this one?
- 1:31:47I'm going to go Oklahoma here. I think this is kind of a one of
- 1:31:51the wins that starts getting them back in the conversation to
- 1:31:54jump into that that playoff picture.
- 1:31:58I think they get a fairly signature win.
- 1:32:00I don't think it's a blow out of Baylor but I think it's a solid
- 1:32:0210 point win. All right, I'm going to take
- 1:32:06bail on this game, I think this game is going to be closer than
- 1:32:08what people think, Oklahoma still has offensive problems.
- 1:32:13I think a random will scheme enough on defense to keep it
- 1:32:16closed. So I think Oklahoma wins field
- 1:32:20goal 34 points, but I think it's going to be a war on Saturday
- 1:32:26High Noon, High Noon, High Noon, first time in weeks that I will
- 1:32:33get to sit down and have a full day of Collegiate football.
- 1:32:38So, Bryan we have agreed on all the two games this week?
- 1:32:42Yeah, Brian is not clearly. There's there's some weeks.
- 1:32:46I will tell you when you when we get behind we were like I'm
- 1:32:49going to I'm going to go opposite just because I'm trying
- 1:32:51to play catch-up, this is not one of those weeks.
- 1:32:54Huh. Not just the way the lines are
- 1:32:57Fallen. It just feels like it's not a
- 1:33:00week to roll the dice just to do it trying to strategically
- 1:33:05place. My dice rolls here.
- 1:33:08Ironically I'm going with with UVA on one of those so y'all can
