- 0:10Speaker 1: Let's face it, who doesn't want to see that happen.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Here's your opportunity.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Drop us a line at contact at The Driver's Show
- 0:15Speaker 1: Podcast dot com, dot a you or send us a
- 0:17Speaker 1: DM on our Instagram page.
- 0:19Speaker 2: We'd love to work with you.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Sounds good.
- 0:22Speaker 1: This is gonna look so good on my tinder. The
- 0:24Speaker 1: Driver's Show with Paul Marrick and Gordy Waters. So everyone's
- 0:36Speaker 1: been wondering where Paul is and the Melbourne Gangland Wars
- 0:40Speaker 1: have got him. He's been masheddied up.
- 0:44Speaker 3: All I did was try to open a tobacco store. Yeah,
- 0:46Speaker 3: here we are.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and you've got a couple of fire bombs, a
- 0:49Speaker 1: couple of our cocktail bombs thrown in. Do you know
- 0:52Speaker 1: that happens regularly at a place right up the road
- 0:54Speaker 1: from me. You can tell this guy, this guy, this
- 0:59Speaker 1: guy is clearly not playing ball with the with the
- 1:02Speaker 1: cigarette mafia. And he's like, you know, no, no, I'm
- 1:05Speaker 1: just gonna I'm gonna do by the real deal, and
- 1:08Speaker 1: the bikes and whatever are just like.
- 1:10Speaker 2: See up, we don't think so.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, like once a month this poor bastard shop windows
- 1:14Speaker 1: get smashed in.
- 1:15Speaker 3: We we actually, I know there's had nothing to do
- 1:18Speaker 3: with cars. But where we used to live in South Melbourne,
- 1:20Speaker 3: they popped up a tobacco store. I'm like, oh, you're
- 1:23Speaker 3: you're fucked.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Which whereabouts was that one?
- 1:25Speaker 4: Uh?
- 1:27Speaker 3: There was one that had a car driven through it
- 1:28Speaker 3: and then set on fire. This was a different one,
- 1:30Speaker 3: but straight after it opened, was that.
- 1:33Speaker 1: The Clarendon That was the one on Clarendon in New
- 1:36Speaker 1: York Street. Yeah, but this is a different one because
- 1:38Speaker 1: that building. Yeah my dad, yeah yeah, he coming back,
- 1:43Speaker 1: coming back to collect some debt. Yeah. It's all LinkedIn
- 1:46Speaker 1: with the Mercedes bends.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Now so straight after.
- 1:49Speaker 3: These guys opened, they installed like military grade ballards bars
- 1:55Speaker 3: on all the windows, shutters just to sell a pack
- 1:58Speaker 3: of smokes. Lovely so anyway, yeah, but yeah, how good
- 2:02Speaker 3: is Victoria?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Victoria is?
- 2:04Speaker 1: It is?
- 2:05Speaker 3: It has gone downhill, like you wouldn't believe. There's taxes
- 2:08Speaker 3: on everything. Crime is completely out of control. If the
- 2:12Speaker 3: police aren't busy doing a protest, they're searching for a
- 2:15Speaker 3: guy in the forest. They just do not have time
- 2:18Speaker 3: to actually do any actual police work anymore.
- 2:20Speaker 1: It feels weird as an outsider looking in and someone
- 2:23Speaker 1: who grew up in Melbourne, someone who's still kind of
- 2:27Speaker 1: considered it home. It's so weird to watch just the
- 2:30Speaker 1: decline from from COVID with old mate Dan Andrews to
- 2:36Speaker 1: what I mean, what a fucking debarcle that was? How
- 2:38Speaker 1: is he?
- 2:39Speaker 2: And this is now completely off carspic.
- 2:41Speaker 1: In case you've just joined us, this is what really
- 2:43Speaker 1: grunds your gears with Gordon Pavli.
- 2:46Speaker 2: How was he in the picture with Kim johng wound.
- 2:49Speaker 1: So fitting gee putin?
- 2:52Speaker 3: I'm like you, mate, you do not care, you just
- 2:56Speaker 3: have He's.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Just lost the plight, hasn't he. He is a piece
- 2:59Speaker 1: of fucking work. Yeah anyway, Yeah? Is he a member
- 3:02Speaker 1: of the Portsa Golf Club?
- 3:03Speaker 3: Yet not anymore?
- 3:04Speaker 2: My mate Steve Price fixed that up.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Good, good on him. Have you been, in the words
- 3:11Speaker 1: of mister g where have you been, bitch? Where have
- 3:13Speaker 1: you bloody been?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Here, there and everywhere? And we're going to be talking
- 3:17Speaker 3: about one particular thing today, which is a tesla drove
- 3:20Speaker 3: me around on its own. H. I only had to
- 3:23Speaker 3: intervene a couple of times, but drove me around on
- 3:25Speaker 3: its own. So we'll talk about that happened. That was
- 3:27Speaker 3: on the streets of Melbourne Brisbane. Ah.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I was going to say, you could have run into
- 3:31Speaker 1: a couple of gangs or something, the.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Lines, the jacks, the gypsies. But yeah, I've been there.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I went to China, did I've just been everywhere a
- 3:44Speaker 3: lot and just haven't had time to do a podcast
- 3:46Speaker 3: with you. But I thought Steph did a great job.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Trevor not so much.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Look, it is what it is.
- 3:52Speaker 1: But can I just tell you something Trevor didn't do
- 3:55Speaker 1: actually when he was on the episode. Just give it
- 3:58Speaker 1: a second. Yeah, that's silence. Fucking couldn't do it. I
- 4:03Speaker 1: just couldn't stop fucking talking.
- 4:05Speaker 5: You know.
- 4:06Speaker 1: There was there's actually a moment you can hear in
- 4:08Speaker 1: that episode where I just gave up, and it's about
- 4:11Speaker 1: two minutes in.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Look, I usually thought it was a really good episode,
- 4:15Speaker 3: so I know you didn't think that, but I thought
- 4:17Speaker 3: it was great.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And by the way, trev the problem is, trev is
- 4:22Speaker 1: looking really thin now and he's looking good, like I
- 4:25Speaker 1: don't have much to tease him about because I'm now
- 4:29Speaker 1: the fattest.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Ship in the room. How that chair is buckling?
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah? You know who I reckons in danger Eddie McGuire's
- 4:35Speaker 1: neck because it looks like it's hiding under my chin.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I just think any.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Of those you know, moms with eight kids who win
- 4:42Speaker 3: a cherry on the Today Show, if trev just he will,
- 4:46Speaker 3: he will ravish them.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Come and see the real fucking key carnival, Carnival in
- 4:51Speaker 1: my pants, fucking up it's room right, Oh good, but
- 4:59Speaker 1: Trevor Trevor for fucking long. What a what a debacle
- 5:02Speaker 1: that was? But yeah, look he's he's trimmed up, he's
- 5:06Speaker 1: looking good. He won't shut up, and yeah he's sort
- 5:13Speaker 1: of yeah yeah, he's definitely like like king of the
- 5:18Speaker 1: Hollywood Moms. Now, like you can just tell he'd go
- 5:20Speaker 1: down to the soccer practice and like and troll for pulse.
- 5:27Speaker 1: He just totally would near the tuck shop.
- 5:29Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Anyway. So what else has been happening? Oh the bloody
- 5:40Speaker 1: A couple of cars that I've been driving. Let's let's
- 5:42Speaker 1: do a bit of back and forth. So I got
- 5:46Speaker 1: my hands on a care tasmin.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, m it's something.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It's a it's a big girl. It's a big girl.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, donnad could sleep in the back. Oh yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 1: that's that's how big it is. That's like Donna Dad Trey.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Yeah, Jesus, like the where the headlights are it looks like, yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 5: that looks like Donna's side under tit just that real
- 6:10Speaker 5: Wooby Goldberg style tit just come go and like you
- 6:13Speaker 5: go and give.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Her a nipple cripple. But you're sort of somewhere near
- 6:16Speaker 1: the side nipple gribbler.
- 6:18Speaker 3: At a backscrap, so they both happened at the same time.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, don't get me exherded Pavly. The design.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Look, I said this in my video.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And people were, no, you're just on the tank from Gia.
- 6:31Speaker 2: The design.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I don't personally like it, but styling is subjective. People
- 6:36Speaker 3: will either love it or hate it. And in our
- 6:38Speaker 3: comments on the video.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's genuinely fifty to fifty.
- 6:41Speaker 2: There are fifty.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Percent of people who love the design and fifty percent
- 6:45Speaker 3: who hate it. And to me, it's like, I don't
- 6:47Speaker 3: care what you buy. If you I'm telling you what
- 6:49Speaker 3: it's like from a analytical point of view, what it's
- 6:52Speaker 3: like to drive and operate as a dual cab. You
- 6:54Speaker 3: the design and couldn't really give a shit about The
- 6:56Speaker 3: only comment I had on the design was that the
- 6:58Speaker 3: position of the headlights will make it tricky for anyone
- 7:00Speaker 3: that does proper off roading because you're going to smash
- 7:02Speaker 3: the shit out of those things on errand branches and
- 7:04Speaker 3: stuff like that.
- 7:05Speaker 2: But outside of that, car's fine.
- 7:08Speaker 3: We actually just it's going live tomorrow as we record this,
- 7:12Speaker 3: but we'll be live by the time you hear it.
- 7:14Speaker 2: We publish a towing video, and it's not great at towing.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We had a lot of issues with the stability control
- 7:21Speaker 3: just randomly coming on when it was driving. The brake
- 7:24Speaker 3: controller causes the brake lights to flash on a million
- 7:28Speaker 3: miles an hour randomly. There's just a couple of things
- 7:30Speaker 3: that they really should have ironed out during the engineering
- 7:33Speaker 3: process that they clearly have just totally.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Missed, especially when this car. There's a lot of eyes
- 7:38Speaker 1: on this car, and there's a lot of critical noise
- 7:42Speaker 1: about it as well. They really kind of should have
- 7:45Speaker 1: dived into that. The towing is bad news. But yeah, look,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I mean this is day two. I can barely really
- 7:51Speaker 1: talk about much, but the interior is nice. Interior is fine.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It's fine, it's fine. Do you know what I found
- 7:59Speaker 1: weird in the interior. There's several reminders to tell you
- 8:03Speaker 1: how big the car is. Like if you look at
- 8:06Speaker 1: like there's this weird sort of tray in the Senate console,
- 8:08Speaker 1: then you lift the lid up of the Senate console
- 8:10Speaker 1: and it's under that as well.
- 8:12Speaker 3: So they've kind of copied Ram. Ram does that with
- 8:14Speaker 3: the fifteen hundred and other RAM models. Problem with all
- 8:17Speaker 3: of that is that it doesn't take into account like
- 8:20Speaker 3: if you get the toe kit, you've a toebar sticks
- 8:23Speaker 3: out which extends the length of the vehicle. If you
- 8:24Speaker 3: get a bullbar, it changes the length of the vehicle.
- 8:27Speaker 3: If you get different tires, it's no longer the same height.
- 8:30Speaker 2: You got a lift kit. It's so it's kind of
- 8:32Speaker 2: a weird thing to have.
- 8:33Speaker 1: But I feel like it's more of an aesthetic, to
- 8:34Speaker 1: be honest, I honestly do I think the inside's like nice,
- 8:38Speaker 1: it's good. I mean it's you're looking at, say the
- 8:41Speaker 1: interior of the BYD Shark, which I think is better.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yep. Well, which variant you're driving tasman X Pro yep,
- 8:49Speaker 3: that's the top spec, so yes, because it's.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Got the little tray, the little Heidi hole above the
- 8:55Speaker 1: wheel arch.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Yeah. The other thing as well is that that also,
- 8:58Speaker 3: just from a technical standpoint, everything but the x Pro
- 9:01Speaker 3: has a manually locking rear diff. Everything else has an
- 9:04Speaker 3: auto locking rear diff, which I think is just the
- 9:06Speaker 3: worst creation ever to exist on a dual cab that
- 9:09Speaker 3: you want to go off roading, because it will wait
- 9:11Speaker 3: for a delta in wheel speed on the rear axle
- 9:13Speaker 3: and then it will just lock the rear diff just
- 9:15Speaker 3: out of nowhere, and it can become really problematic if
- 9:18Speaker 3: it snaps sideways on you and you're not expecting it.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Why there isn't just a button is just so strange.
- 9:24Speaker 3: It must be a cost saving thing, because I cannot
- 9:26Speaker 3: think of any positive reason you would not have a
- 9:28Speaker 3: button to lock the rear diff.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And it's pretty like commonplace too.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and that one also, The top Speck also has
- 9:36Speaker 3: the speed variable hill descent and ascent. The rest of
- 9:40Speaker 3: them just have a standard hill descent control. From an
- 9:43Speaker 3: off road perspective, the tasment is excellent based on the
- 9:46Speaker 3: testing we've done, but only in the Xpro because you
- 9:49Speaker 3: step down to the X line. It does weird stuff
- 9:52Speaker 3: like you've got the rear diff that can't be manually locked.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It will change up gears on its own, so if you're.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Doing a hill climb in low range and first gear,
- 10:00Speaker 3: it'll just go here's second for you, and I'm like no,
- 10:03Speaker 3: because it will just stop your movement entirely and like
- 10:06Speaker 3: send you backwards. It is stuff like that. I just
- 10:09Speaker 3: find so strange why they've engineered these things. It's really weird.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Have they sort of thought to themselves, we're just going
- 10:15Speaker 1: to classify the X Pro as the only four wheel
- 10:18Speaker 1: drive going car.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Maybe it's just a weird thing on a seventy something
- 10:22Speaker 3: thousand dollars car.
- 10:23Speaker 2: And it is bloody expensive.
- 10:24Speaker 3: It's actually the same or slightly more expensive than a
- 10:27Speaker 3: V six Ford range of WildTrack.
- 10:30Speaker 2: So you're getting and.
- 10:31Speaker 1: You're getting more, you're getting more in that's just getting.
- 10:33Speaker 3: A much better engine for towing and doing all the
- 10:36Speaker 3: other stuff you need to do. But in saying that,
- 10:38Speaker 3: the engine is actually far punchier than the numbers would suggest.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Because it's on paper it should be not that great,
- 10:44Speaker 3: but I found it to be pretty good, with the
- 10:47Speaker 3: only real downside being the gearbox.
- 10:50Speaker 2: It hunts a lot.
- 10:51Speaker 3: And the reason they've done that is because it's down
- 10:53Speaker 3: on talk and if they basically have a hyperactive gearbox,
- 10:57Speaker 3: it feels more responsive to the driver because it's always
- 10:59Speaker 3: in the right gear. Had they not have had that,
- 11:02Speaker 3: you'd be constantly trying to lean on the talk band
- 11:04Speaker 3: to get it to move, or slipping back through gears,
- 11:07Speaker 3: which would become problematic if you're trying to move fast.
- 11:10Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't know.
- 11:12Speaker 1: It's it'll be interesting to see how this sells, and
- 11:15Speaker 1: I know they obviously want to move units. I found
- 11:18Speaker 1: it interesting when Steph Coombs came in here and she
- 11:20Speaker 1: was at the launch. They were aiming somewhere about being
- 11:25Speaker 1: number four in the market, which I find a weird
- 11:27Speaker 1: place to be. They reckon their main competition is the
- 11:30Speaker 1: B White Shark. I'm like, well, okay, you're looking at
- 11:34Speaker 1: a car that's probably obviously not going to toe with
- 11:38Speaker 1: the Shark. Different Yeah, yeah, it was a weird one.
- 11:45Speaker 1: The Shark is far cheaper.
- 11:48Speaker 3: It's yeah, I don't know, it'll be interesting to see
- 11:52Speaker 3: how it goes out.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And they've put what they've done to is they've put
- 11:55Speaker 1: a lot of money in this car and marketing. Yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 1: that's what I mean, like, not not just into the
- 12:00Speaker 1: actual car, but into the marketing of the car. Like
- 12:02Speaker 1: the launches were nuts. Steph was saying she went to
- 12:06Speaker 1: the launch where they did like Tasmin Town or something,
- 12:10Speaker 1: and I think it took over a town. Yeah. Yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think a football player cupped her on the tit.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm not sure he was paid to do that. I'm
- 12:19Speaker 1: just throwing around allegation. She's gonna kill me, I'm kidding.
- 12:23Speaker 1: But yeah, they've put a lot of money into this
- 12:26Speaker 1: thing and it'll be interesting to see where it goes.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah. So yeah, I was just a random other thing
- 12:30Speaker 3: as well, because we had nothing to do on a Saturday.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That sounds like it's like a pretty normal weekend here.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Melbourne four by four show was on and I said
- 12:40Speaker 3: to my brothers, we take the kids. And my daughter's four,
- 12:43Speaker 3: his kids are four and six. They thought it was
- 12:47Speaker 3: like a show like the circus where things happen. So
- 12:50Speaker 3: the first mistake is we took kids because when we
- 12:52Speaker 3: got there, like, oh, when when's the show on? And
- 12:54Speaker 3: I'm like, we're at the show. It's all these stationary
- 12:57Speaker 3: things here and.
- 12:58Speaker 1: All these old people Jinasa, So that was a bit grim,
- 13:01Speaker 1: but it was where are the monster Track's dad? No, No,
- 13:06Speaker 1: this is like it's just a big, full driving stand.
- 13:08Speaker 1: It stands there and we just look at it and
- 13:11Speaker 1: we talk about me and your uncle get together and
- 13:15Speaker 1: we bitch about your mum.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I was and thank you.
- 13:20Speaker 3: To everyone that said hello to me. It was viewers.
- 13:24Speaker 1: At celebrity, but it was.
- 13:28Speaker 3: It was incredible. It was jam packed. I didn't expect
- 13:30Speaker 3: it to be this busy. It was completely chockers. But
- 13:33Speaker 3: the amount of interest and activity in this space is
- 13:37Speaker 3: on another planet and you can see why AARB is
- 13:39Speaker 3: making so much money. They had at the ABS stand,
- 13:41Speaker 3: they literally had like ten tables where they were doing
- 13:44Speaker 3: quoting and every single seat was full with a line,
- 13:47Speaker 3: so you would sit down.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Get a quote, fear full drive based on stuff you'd seen.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Seen it their stand and scheduling to pay for it
- 13:54Speaker 3: and get it fitted, and every stand had different types
- 13:58Speaker 3: of equipment they were doing. I had a four x
- 14:01Speaker 3: four show with Lucas who runs the Springs four by
- 14:03Speaker 3: four park, and Mad Matt who also does a whole
- 14:07Speaker 3: bunch off roading as well. They were doing some cool
- 14:09Speaker 3: stuff at the maxis Mountain or whatever it was called.
- 14:12Speaker 3: So it was really cool to see and highly recommend
- 14:15Speaker 3: going next.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Year and take your kids, ma'am that.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I believe you did that.
- 14:22Speaker 3: That's a rookie era.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe take them out or something after us.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I bought them chips and stuff, so yeah, anyway, you're
- 14:30Speaker 3: a diatass.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Hey. You know what was interesting? I had an m
- 14:34Speaker 1: X five and I want to do a quick shout
- 14:36Speaker 1: out to Subtle and Masda for this bloody hell. You know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's funny because quite often we'll get together and we'll
- 14:42Speaker 1: bitch about car dealerships and how the service is going down.
- 14:44Speaker 1: They were actually really good, so shout out props to
- 14:46Speaker 1: where that is due. They were really nice. But it
- 14:49Speaker 1: did get me thinking, it's a how much is the
- 14:52Speaker 1: new MX five these days? About sixty roughly?
- 14:55Speaker 3: Yeah, good question. They used to be like a thirty
- 14:57Speaker 3: thousand dollars car.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah not anymore?
- 15:00Speaker 3: How much?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Does the ask chat GPT car expert Gassost, I'll do
- 15:08Speaker 1: the same, hang on forty three grand.
- 15:10Speaker 3: It starts with for the roads to manual, so that
- 15:12Speaker 3: used to be a thirty something thousand dollars car and
- 15:14Speaker 3: it goes up to fifty two.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yeah, not for that hard top.
- 15:20Speaker 3: No, I think that's for the soft top. That's the
- 15:22Speaker 3: thirty fifth anniversary. This is Riveting Radio. Okay, So the
- 15:26Speaker 3: RF goes up to fifty seven twenty for the top speed.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And then once you get that on the road, that's
- 15:31Speaker 1: about sixty. Yeah, this was a soft top, but I
- 15:34Speaker 1: know it was some sort of special edition had the
- 15:37Speaker 1: extra breaks and some tuning done in an engine fun car.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, right twenty twenty five, if they're
- 15:43Speaker 1: still using the little dial.
- 15:45Speaker 3: For the connect for the thing is gross.
- 15:47Speaker 1: For the Yeah, for the Apple car Play, and it was.
- 15:49Speaker 1: It was actually really difficult to do. You can, it's
- 15:54Speaker 1: stupid because it's like, once you're parked, you can use
- 15:57Speaker 1: it as a touch screen. Yeah, but once you're going
- 15:59Speaker 1: and you're on the go, you've got to use the
- 16:00Speaker 1: stupid toggle, which makes things way more Yeah. And I
- 16:05Speaker 1: sort of thought, why would anyone buy a brand new one,
- 16:09Speaker 1: buy one that's two years old or something like that,
- 16:12Speaker 1: the one that's got five ten thousand k's on it.
- 16:15Speaker 1: You're saving an absolute lot of coin and you're getting
- 16:17Speaker 1: the exact same car. I mean, driving wise, there's no
- 16:21Speaker 1: doubt about it. They're an iconic car for a reason,
- 16:24Speaker 1: but it still drives like a car that was driving
- 16:28Speaker 1: like that fifteen years ago. I'd probably get one without
- 16:31Speaker 1: all the bullshit because I didn't need it.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Yea, yeah, I mean I don't disagree at all. Heaps
- 16:35Speaker 3: of people buy them. They say that in the Mustang.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I saw a graphic that this dude that follows the
- 16:40Speaker 3: car market does for Mustang where like in the top
- 16:44Speaker 3: five I think markets globally, which is crazy. Yeah, so
- 16:48Speaker 3: people love those sort of midlife crisis sports car style
- 16:51Speaker 3: things in Australia.
- 16:53Speaker 1: That's me, Gordon, that is me. Yeah, must The new
- 16:58Speaker 1: Mustang looks good, looks good. It's expensive, a guzzle fuel,
- 17:02Speaker 1: fucking who cares? Sounds good, sounds fucking good. And I'm
- 17:05Speaker 1: gonna like this is gonna look so good on my Tinder.
- 17:07Speaker 6: I'm got a fucking foto with me and my Maustang,
- 17:10Speaker 6: and I'm drinking some great Northern and I've got my
- 17:12Speaker 6: fucking Monster Energy drink flat cap on and like I've
- 17:16Speaker 6: just fucking finished sheet metal at Tafe and I've got
- 17:20Speaker 6: my life to get.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Up paid well paid.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Well, you know what I loved, You know what I
- 17:28Speaker 1: loved I had a Mini Cooper S. Yeah, I loved it,
- 17:35Speaker 1: loved it. This one had the JCW fit out.
- 17:38Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I used to have a Cooper S. And it's amazing
- 17:41Speaker 1: how much they've changed in the last couple of years
- 17:43Speaker 1: because when I had mine, moments like back when they
- 17:48Speaker 1: were very you could really customize them, like you could
- 17:50Speaker 1: put whatever dash you wanted, whatever seats. So I had
- 17:53Speaker 1: these really great British lounge green leather seats and like
- 17:57Speaker 1: a wood grain dash, and it was, you know, it
- 17:59Speaker 1: was a game because with your genesis, you guessis stop
- 18:04Speaker 1: at Stephen. Yeah, what we're talking about. Yeah, So I
- 18:09Speaker 1: had the Cooper as and you know, that's such a
- 18:12Speaker 1: fun car.
- 18:13Speaker 2: It is.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Look before you say anything. It's interesting to see they've
- 18:18Speaker 1: they've done a different a bit of a different approach
- 18:20Speaker 1: nowadays where you don't really get as much choice as
- 18:23Speaker 1: you used to, and I get why. But this had
- 18:26Speaker 1: the JCW interior, which you can.
- 18:30Speaker 3: I do like that interior that Mini does that The
- 18:34Speaker 3: circular old led display is cool. It is a horrifically
- 18:37Speaker 3: bad info tamement system. It's laggy and just just shit
- 18:40Speaker 3: that at all. But the thing that disappoints me is
- 18:44Speaker 3: that they've taken all the j CW out of it.
- 18:47Speaker 3: The j CW used to have crackles and pops and
- 18:50Speaker 3: when it was super charged, you could hear everything that
- 18:52Speaker 3: was going on. This one. If you turn off the
- 18:55Speaker 3: interior sounds, it does not make any noise. The new
- 18:58Speaker 3: j c W is Yeah, like, what is this thing on? Like,
- 19:01Speaker 3: I just wish they would bring that back. Why can't
- 19:03Speaker 3: I just tick a box that says sports exhaust? That
- 19:06Speaker 3: is raucous and just angry because the rest of the
- 19:08Speaker 3: cars are really cool. I just think that they've just
- 19:11Speaker 3: missed a trick there. Yeah.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I haven't driven the JCW one yet. I'm really keen to,
- 19:15Speaker 1: especially the Countrymen. Yep, that's based on the X one,
- 19:19Speaker 1: right one, Yeah, what if they put They've just brought
- 19:23Speaker 1: out like a version of the X one, which is
- 19:25Speaker 1: kind of like an.
- 19:26Speaker 3: M Yeah, I think it's the thirty five. I is
- 19:29Speaker 3: the X one, the hot one that basically is the
- 19:32Speaker 3: Countryman JCW. Yeah, but it's it's a fun car. It
- 19:36Speaker 3: goes really quick, like it's from all of that sort
- 19:38Speaker 3: of stuff. It's good, big breaks all that. But yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 3: just I just wish it could just have a bit
- 19:42Speaker 3: more personality.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder if they I wonder if you could
- 19:45Speaker 1: change out with an exhaust yeah.
- 19:47Speaker 3: After ma market. But it's the thing is with cars
- 19:50Speaker 3: these days, I just have so many emissions control devices
- 19:54Speaker 3: that I just take the life out of them. And
- 19:57Speaker 3: I just wish that if I'm paying for a JCW,
- 20:00Speaker 3: just you know, just let me ticke a box. I'll
- 20:03Speaker 3: sign a waiver.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. Well, yeah, look, I liked it.
- 20:07Speaker 1: It was fun. It was still throw around. This was
- 20:09Speaker 1: the s which I thought was still plenty quick for
- 20:11Speaker 1: like the bloody as. I'm like, ah, this is this
- 20:13Speaker 1: has got some some throat to it. It's good fun.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It's still a little car in a way. It's still
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's getting bigger. Oh yeah, you know, it's definitely not
- 20:22Speaker 1: the little car it used to be, but I guess
- 20:25Speaker 1: it's a little by today's standards. Yeah, it's this beautiful color.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I don't want to know what the color was. It
- 20:31Speaker 1: was like a blue. It almost looked like a tiffany blue.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Wouldn't know what.
- 20:36Speaker 1: That looks, really, you definitely wouldn't know.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It was good.
- 20:41Speaker 1: What have you driven lately?
- 20:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so did the Tasmin I spent some time in
- 20:49Speaker 3: the Ranger plug in hybrid.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Oh you know, it was snooze.
- 20:54Speaker 3: It was good, but not the one I Storm Track
- 20:57Speaker 3: or whatever it was called. It was obscenely over price
- 21:00Speaker 3: and never listened to the noise that was making. I
- 21:02Speaker 3: put this up on my Instagram and as well. Yeah,
- 21:06Speaker 3: instantly got a call from Ford because they were panicking
- 21:08Speaker 3: about the noise that it was making. But basically, I
- 21:10Speaker 3: went out to the drive I'd had it charging overnight,
- 21:13Speaker 3: went out to the driveway, turned it on so that
- 21:16Speaker 3: it would run the heater, but it was in ev
- 21:20Speaker 3: mode so the engine was not on. So I ever
- 21:22Speaker 3: listened to this. I was going to put it up
- 21:23Speaker 3: to the speaker. It's some rough sounds that have started.
- 21:27Speaker 3: So this is a cold start on full electric with
- 21:32Speaker 3: the battery pull.
- 21:35Speaker 1: It sounds like something's rattling in that fan.
- 21:39Speaker 3: So my theory, and they haven't confirmed this, but my
- 21:43Speaker 3: theory is when you get into a car like that, manufacturers,
- 21:47Speaker 3: depending on how they do it, they operate these in
- 21:49Speaker 3: two different ways. They either let you run it on
- 21:51Speaker 3: electric and just leave the internal combustion engine dormant and
- 21:55Speaker 3: just never even think about it, or what Ford appears
- 21:58Speaker 3: to do is even if you're running in full electric
- 22:01Speaker 3: it will circulate like some sort of heated liquid through
- 22:06Speaker 3: the internal combustion engine, so that when it does have
- 22:09Speaker 3: to fire up, you could be doing one hundred k's
- 22:11Speaker 3: now you don't want it to go straight to two
- 22:12Speaker 3: thousand rpm and just be sitting there red heavy load.
- 22:17Speaker 3: When we used to I used to do my engineering job,
- 22:22Speaker 3: we had.
- 22:23Speaker 1: This isn't a linked in account.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm so proud of my team because here's why
- 22:29Speaker 3: I did well. No, So, when I did my engineering job,
- 22:32Speaker 3: we worked at data centers, and data centers all have
- 22:36Speaker 3: these enormous generators that run if the electricity goes out.
- 22:39Speaker 3: So if the electricity goes out, data centers have battery
- 22:41Speaker 3: packs that take over immediately. Then generators start, and then
- 22:45Speaker 3: generators run the site for potentially weeks on end because
- 22:48Speaker 3: they've got huge fuel tanks. And what they would do
- 22:50Speaker 3: is when they were running generator tests, they would start
- 22:52Speaker 3: them in anger, which is where you basically turn it
- 22:55Speaker 3: on and load it up immediately. But those generators all
- 22:58Speaker 3: had like heat jackets that would run warm oil through
- 23:02Speaker 3: them so that when it started, you weren't starting a
- 23:04Speaker 3: cold engine and so that's what Fords doing. So but
- 23:08Speaker 3: the problem is that it sounds like whatever was running
- 23:11Speaker 3: on that car was like a pump of some sort
- 23:13Speaker 3: circulating fluid. Potentially I was parked on a hill and
- 23:18Speaker 3: it sounds like perhaps the pump wasn't able to access
- 23:21Speaker 3: the liquid that it was meant to be circulating. So yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 3: I don't know whether they actually tested a cold start
- 23:27Speaker 3: on a hill as part of the engineering program. But yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 3: a bit of a concerning one. And outside of that
- 23:33Speaker 3: car's fine. I just don't know why you'd bother buying.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's a lot of money too.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Yeah, the range is a woeful. It's like realistic thirty
- 23:40Speaker 3: kilometers of driving range, which is appalling. Yeah, you're better
- 23:43Speaker 3: off just buying like a BYD Shark or a cannon.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Like if you need to off road and tow, you
- 23:47Speaker 3: get the cannon. If you just want something quick and
- 23:49Speaker 3: electric and.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Get around town, you get the bid. Yeah, the Ford,
- 23:53Speaker 2: I just don't know why.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Anyone would buy it. So that's a bit of a
- 23:56Speaker 3: weird one.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Okay, we should talk about Tesla self driving f SD.
- 24:01Speaker 2: They call it brackets supervised.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yes, I love that, which I wouldn't know what what
- 24:09Speaker 1: considers supervised or what do they call it? It's there's
- 24:14Speaker 1: a word like what you've kind of got to be
- 24:16Speaker 1: overlooking the car supervising? Yeah, not supervising. Jesus Christ.
- 24:23Speaker 3: I wish truth it was he I would be able
- 24:26Speaker 3: to talk lingo.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, probably industry chat, industry chat.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Fuck. While you're looking out, I think I think you
- 24:32Speaker 1: know what the probably the word. I think I probably
- 24:34Speaker 1: was looking for a supervised Yeah, I want to know
- 24:39Speaker 1: what what the what constitutes supervised? So you're letting the
- 24:43Speaker 1: car go drive, but you've got a supervisor.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Let me paint a picture first. So I get a
- 24:48Speaker 3: cryptic like phone call from Tip Gordy, this is I
- 24:55Speaker 3: just get an answer it up to this.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Hello, isn't you Darling?
- 25:03Speaker 4: It's Donna.
- 25:05Speaker 3: How you doing here?
- 25:07Speaker 1: You Darling? I fucking missed you a little perfectly.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I've been listening to that stupid podcast you do with
- 25:15Speaker 4: the the lesbian woman there, what's what's her name?
- 25:19Speaker 1: Gordon.
- 25:21Speaker 4: I've been having a little bit of a listen to
- 25:23Speaker 4: that lady. And you haven't been on Darland.
- 25:26Speaker 2: You've been in China.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I got bloody the life the fucking scared ahead of me.
- 25:31Speaker 4: I thought he said, you're in a vagina joking.
- 25:36Speaker 3: You would have you would you would have loved the
- 25:38Speaker 3: episode with Trevor right, he's a start.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Don't care for that hairy bastard. I don't care for him.
- 25:45Speaker 4: I looked at his back and it looks like one
- 25:47Speaker 4: of me flaps. I've got a blood I've just been
- 25:51Speaker 4: I've been visiting his sister there in Casina, and I've
- 25:57Speaker 4: got a new I've got a new your patient. I
- 26:02Speaker 4: want everyone to check it out. Now my nude thing,
- 26:10Speaker 4: mind hock you Patrion down is Jonna the mattress actress.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I've got a webshot and everything.
- 26:23Speaker 2: What does that entail?
- 26:26Speaker 4: Well, if you ever fucking had a steam dim sim
- 26:30Speaker 4: I can fucking turn it fried in three seconds. I
- 26:36Speaker 4: can do it for once. Listen, I heard your bloody
- 26:42Speaker 4: talking about them self driving cars. I'll tell you something.
- 26:48Speaker 4: When I'm in the bits of shitty Sigma and I'm
- 26:52Speaker 4: telling my caravan, I can do a bit of self driving.
- 26:56Speaker 4: I'll fucking put the bloody steering wheel what you got
- 26:59Speaker 4: and then I just little love, I do need to
- 27:02Speaker 4: fucking shift left little.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And then just caught me.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Let you goes to the left.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Well, thank you. Thank you for the call.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Donna, don't forget about Donnas and stubby holders. Don't forget
- 27:17Speaker 4: to check out my website.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Donna's Hot, Jimmy's and teas.
- 27:25Speaker 4: See Land.
- 27:26Speaker 1: I love you, but it was weird that your phone
- 27:31Speaker 1: would start going in the Military Professional podcast.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I really shouldn't be taking phone calls while we're doing
- 27:38Speaker 2: that's she's got a mouth on it, hasn't she?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Who's that?
- 27:41Speaker 3: Donna?
- 27:41Speaker 1: What's it? Donna? Yeah, I tune out.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I can't.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I can't stand her language is disclosed, she's got she's
- 27:47Speaker 1: just very unclassy. She sounds very uncapped.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Well that's that's true.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yeah, well you would know you've been there anyway.
- 27:56Speaker 3: So what I was saying was I've got a cryptic
- 27:58Speaker 3: phone call from Tesla and they said at a breath mate,
- 28:02Speaker 3: It's like, yeah.
- 28:05Speaker 1: So I've literally done four steps and I sound like
- 28:08Speaker 1: fucking Christophers case defeating himself.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Like Trevor six months ago.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Jesus, I think I'm going to get on the Trevor juice.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, So I got a cryptic phone call and like,
- 28:17Speaker 2: come up to Brisbane.
- 28:18Speaker 3: We're doing an event and you know, we want you
- 28:20Speaker 3: to experience something and I thought they were going to
- 28:22Speaker 3: give us the Model Wide Performance to drive and I'm
- 28:24Speaker 3: like all right, can I bring the videographer and like yes,
- 28:26Speaker 3: but you need to pay for him to come. And
- 28:27Speaker 3: I'm like okay, they are the world's tightest car company.
- 28:31Speaker 2: So I'm like, right, we'll cover the cost of that.
- 28:33Speaker 3: So I flew up there with a videographer and we
- 28:37Speaker 3: went into this room and they're like, we're about to
- 28:39Speaker 3: roll out full self driving bracket, supervised bracket for Australia
- 28:43Speaker 3: and New Zealand. I was like, oh, this is exciting.
- 28:45Speaker 3: And we flew up to Mount Cotton, which is like
- 28:48Speaker 3: a driver training facility outside of Brisbane, and I thought
- 28:51Speaker 3: that was going to drive us around Mount Cotton. I
- 28:53Speaker 3: thought this is going to be stupid.
- 28:54Speaker 2: It's like a it's a curated road that you've got here.
- 28:57Speaker 3: It's not that special.
- 28:58Speaker 2: And they all right, so we've got some out the front.
- 29:00Speaker 3: You can go on a drive loop through to Brisbane
- 29:03Speaker 3: and back and I was like, whoa, okay, So we
- 29:05Speaker 3: set up all the cameras on the car activated full
- 29:08Speaker 3: self driving, which requires you to answer about thirty different disclaimers,
- 29:11Speaker 3: none of which I properly read. It then drove me
- 29:15Speaker 3: to the city like on its own. I literally just
- 29:19Speaker 3: had my hands behind the wheel and my feet near
- 29:21Speaker 3: the brakes.
- 29:22Speaker 1: So did you have to put your hands on the wheel?
- 29:24Speaker 3: You don't have to. It's not like autopilot where you
- 29:26Speaker 3: have to interact with it every twenty seconds. You do
- 29:28Speaker 3: not have to touch anything for the entirety of the drive.
- 29:31Speaker 3: And it will do everything from indicating breaking stopping, changing lanes,
- 29:36Speaker 3: stopping it roundabouts, going through it like it does everything.
- 29:40Speaker 1: And like it was weird. I do you keep your
- 29:43Speaker 1: hands on your lap?
- 29:44Speaker 2: Well, technically you need to still be in control, right,
- 29:47Speaker 2: and this is one of the things like you can't.
- 29:50Speaker 3: You've got to be what's the word I'm looking.
- 29:51Speaker 1: For, supervising it right? The supervised. I have a question
- 29:56Speaker 1: if I am supervising right and having away? Yeah, well,
- 30:00Speaker 1: because that would be the first thing, you know. I
- 30:02Speaker 1: remember when I remember when mobile phones first got cameras.
- 30:08Speaker 1: The first thing I did was was philm a Willie and.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Two of those eight pixels were Jesus.
- 30:17Speaker 1: He couldn't fit.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:18Speaker 2: According to a cop.
- 30:19Speaker 3: That I spoke to in Queensland, he said that you
- 30:22Speaker 3: don't have to have your hands on the wheel as
- 30:23Speaker 3: long as you have control of the vehicle.
- 30:25Speaker 2: So I think that's open to interpretation.
- 30:28Speaker 3: And just as a really quick side note, Tesla has
- 30:30Speaker 3: been sued by that many people in the States I
- 30:33Speaker 3: have alleged autopilot crashes. They actually had to pay some
- 30:36Speaker 3: do two hundred and something million dollars to the family
- 30:39Speaker 3: he was involved in a crash, and the crazy thing
- 30:42Speaker 3: was that he allegedly wasn't even using autopilot. So they
- 30:46Speaker 3: said that no car would ever have been able to
- 30:48Speaker 3: stop the crash that he was in because he was
- 30:50Speaker 3: just not He dropped his phone or something went looking
- 30:53Speaker 3: for it. So the judge awarded the family thirty three
- 30:55Speaker 3: percent of damages, which equated to be like two hundred million.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So Tesla's appealing that.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I don't know that they've had any successful convictions based
- 31:02Speaker 3: on it running on auto.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Public because Tesla is a little tricky with the way
- 31:05Speaker 2: they do things.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Every instance so far, they say that autopilot was disabled,
- 31:10Speaker 3: and based on some testing that the people have done
- 31:12Speaker 3: on the internet, it disables just before an impact or
- 31:16Speaker 3: a crash. So I was like, yeah, it was disabled
- 31:18Speaker 3: one third of a second before it crashed into the thing.
- 31:21Speaker 3: So yes, technically that's true, but anyway, look we've seen.
- 31:24Speaker 1: An interesting kind of what an interesting kind of get
- 31:27Speaker 1: out of jail for free card. Like if you're saying, well,
- 31:31Speaker 1: we disabled it, like they've got every chance to correct it.
- 31:36Speaker 4: No.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah, So yeah, for the most part it worked well.
- 31:39Speaker 3: There was a couple of instances, and we've got a
- 31:41Speaker 3: video up on YouTube that you can sort of watch
- 31:43Speaker 3: all of this. On a couple of instances in the
- 31:45Speaker 3: city in Brisbanese, what I did was they had a
- 31:48Speaker 3: curate a driver route, and I'm like, I'm immediately going
- 31:50Speaker 3: to change that because I want to go to Bunnings.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I want to see what it's like not on a
- 31:53Speaker 2: driver rout.
- 31:53Speaker 1: There's obviously a Saturday morning you want a sausage of bread,
- 31:57Speaker 1: and yeah, immediately.
- 31:58Speaker 3: As I sort of deviated from their driver it made
- 32:00Speaker 3: a couple of pretty serious eras, one of which was
- 32:03Speaker 3: like driving across oncoming traffic basically and I had to
- 32:06Speaker 3: take control of the car. And then the other was
- 32:09Speaker 3: at Bunning's where it just failed to give way to
- 32:11Speaker 3: another car that had right of way. So it was
- 32:14Speaker 3: interesting to me as well because I always understood that
- 32:16Speaker 3: this system takes all the data from customers that drive
- 32:19Speaker 3: Teslas and then creates like an AI model of how
- 32:22Speaker 3: to operate.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Well, there's your first mistake.
- 32:24Speaker 3: No, but that's what people think. But the way that
- 32:27Speaker 3: it actually works, based on the discussion I had with
- 32:28Speaker 3: one of their engineers that we weren't allowed to quote
- 32:31Speaker 3: or include in any of the content, was that they
- 32:34Speaker 3: globally have what they call safe drivers, and these will
- 32:37Speaker 3: be people that are paid by Tesla to drive around
- 32:40Speaker 3: in Tesla's in learning mode, and it will teach the
- 32:44Speaker 3: car rules, so things like, if you're on a freeway
- 32:47Speaker 3: and you need to change lanes, how much space do
- 32:49Speaker 3: you safely need to do that?
- 32:51Speaker 2: So is it two meters?
- 32:53Speaker 3: Is it five to ten? The car then knows that
- 32:55Speaker 3: next time it recognizes that it's on a freeway through
- 32:58Speaker 3: its camera system, that it can change lanes because it
- 33:00Speaker 3: says that there is five meters between those cars. It
- 33:03Speaker 3: knows how to respond to a speed hump, it knows
- 33:05Speaker 3: how to respond to a human in front of it,
- 33:07Speaker 3: a school crossing zone. So it learns all of these
- 33:10Speaker 3: things because Teslas don't have radars or lighters, they just
- 33:14Speaker 3: use camera vision. And that to me is a bit
- 33:16Speaker 3: concerned because the only other experience I've had in an
- 33:18Speaker 3: autonomous car was in Los Angeles in a weaymow where
- 33:22Speaker 3: that was unreal. That was a really cool experience. But
- 33:24Speaker 3: there was no one else in the car. It's just
- 33:25Speaker 3: my wife and I, no one driving, it's just the
- 33:28Speaker 3: car doing it. But that has that has all sorts
- 33:30Speaker 3: of senses on top of it. Side that's got lighter
- 33:33Speaker 3: or something, it's got light radar, it's got ultrasonic senses
- 33:36Speaker 3: like it is fully loaded. So the next obvious question
- 33:39Speaker 3: you're going to ask, can I bat one out in
- 33:41Speaker 3: a Tesla's that's correct, Yes you can. There's quite a
- 33:46Speaker 3: few porn videos of people doing it while they're on
- 33:50Speaker 3: self driving mode. So I question whether these teslas can
- 33:54Speaker 3: pick up the what do we call it, what's the
- 33:56Speaker 3: word the supervision?
- 33:59Speaker 1: The supervision.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Yeah, well, actually it's funny they have so when you're running.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Just normal autopilot, which comes stand in in all teslas,
- 34:07Speaker 3: it requires you to like bump the wheel every certain
- 34:09Speaker 3: interval like twenty seconds or something. These cars, because you
- 34:12Speaker 3: don't need to touch the wheel, they still need to
- 34:14Speaker 3: monitor you. So there's actually a camera inside the car
- 34:17Speaker 3: that looks at your face and it's able to use
- 34:19Speaker 3: AI to determine whether you're concentrating, so it's not like
- 34:22Speaker 3: one of those shitty systems you find in a lot
- 34:24Speaker 3: of Chinese cars today where you look out the window
- 34:27Speaker 3: to literally do a head check and you're distracted. Yeah,
- 34:30Speaker 3: it's like no fucking driving the car. So it does
- 34:34Speaker 3: a really good good job with that. Then what it'll
- 34:36Speaker 3: do is if you are distracted, such as having intercourse
- 34:38Speaker 3: with someone in the passenger seat, what it will do
- 34:41Speaker 3: is is start prompting you to intervene, and if you
- 34:44Speaker 3: ignore it, it will basically shut full self driving down
- 34:47Speaker 3: for that whole session, so you won't be able to
- 34:48Speaker 3: reactivate it. And it logs that as well.
- 34:51Speaker 1: It almost gives you a warning.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Pretty much like and it logs the amount of strikeouts
- 34:55Speaker 3: you've had, so that if you are in an accident
- 34:57Speaker 3: like this guy as part of that court case, actually
- 35:00Speaker 3: mentioned how many strikeouts he'd previously had, so he had
- 35:03Speaker 3: a history of being distracted while driving. Oh, which you
- 35:07Speaker 3: obviously shouldn't have. Because it takes a lot of fucking
- 35:09Speaker 3: effort to get this thing to do a strikeout due
- 35:12Speaker 3: to distraction like it.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Is, it is a lot of work, so did you
- 35:15Speaker 1: test that a little bit? Did you try kind of
- 35:17Speaker 1: like close your eyes?
- 35:18Speaker 3: Tested it previously in a standard Tesla and it actually
- 35:22Speaker 3: came to a full stop and put its hazard lights
- 35:25Speaker 3: on from memory, so it managed that whole process. But
- 35:27Speaker 3: because we're on public rids, I don't want to fath
- 35:29Speaker 3: too much with it. But there were there were a
- 35:31Speaker 3: couple of other sort of interesting things, like we went
- 35:34Speaker 3: through a roadwork zone on the freeway. It dropped to
- 35:36Speaker 3: eighty and the roadwork zone finished, and we'd passed like
- 35:39Speaker 3: two sets of one hundred signs, but it was still
- 35:41Speaker 3: just doing eighty and it wasn't until the third one
- 35:44Speaker 3: that it sped up again, and it's like that's annoying.
- 35:47Speaker 3: And then another one where it entered around about like
- 35:49Speaker 3: you didn't even slow down for it, which would be
- 35:51Speaker 3: fine to do if you could see everything, but there
- 35:53Speaker 3: was a motorbike coming.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Oh god. I was like a lot. Got a bad
- 35:58Speaker 1: feeling about this self drive ship.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I really just this is this is supervised.
- 36:03Speaker 3: So they're their ambition for this is the robo taxi,
- 36:06Speaker 3: which is basically where your car while you're here at work,
- 36:09Speaker 3: your car will drive off and do uberfore you and
- 36:12Speaker 3: generate you an income.
- 36:13Speaker 1: That's amazing. But it's a great idea.
- 36:15Speaker 3: It's well, I thought so was well until I looked
- 36:19Speaker 3: at the practicality of it. If I look at my
- 36:21Speaker 3: wife's car, it is as if there was like a
- 36:25Speaker 3: small nuclear reactor that exploded. It was like a mini
- 36:28Speaker 3: Chernobyl inside her car because there is ship everywhere. Can
- 36:31Speaker 3: you imagine her just parking that at work and it
- 36:33Speaker 3: going to pick up someone and just having to get.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Like she's got ibs to.
- 36:39Speaker 3: That too.
- 36:40Speaker 2: But you just imagine all the you have to clean
- 36:42Speaker 2: your car.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I just I don't like that concept, but I imagine
- 36:45Speaker 1: imagine that though, like you get your car returned or whatever,
- 36:48Speaker 1: and there's just like a fucking Grogan and just someone's
- 36:53Speaker 1: bloody chicken corma sitting under the seat.
- 36:56Speaker 3: Oops. So yeah, I think it's It's an interesting and
- 37:01Speaker 3: I am excited for the technology eventually working. I just
- 37:04Speaker 3: don't know that it's quite there just yet. And I'm
- 37:06Speaker 3: glad it's still supervised. We're still a long way away
- 37:09Speaker 3: from And that's the other thing. This is still technically
- 37:12Speaker 3: a level two autonomous system, and a level too autonomous
- 37:15Speaker 3: system is no different to radar cruise control in a
- 37:17Speaker 3: Masda too, so they're technically classed as the same system,
- 37:22Speaker 3: even though with a Masda too the car will prompt
- 37:24Speaker 3: you a thousand times and it won't let you let
- 37:26Speaker 3: go of the wheel, whereas this will allow.
- 37:28Speaker 2: You to have nothing on the car. So how much
- 37:31Speaker 2: do you think this costs?
- 37:33Speaker 1: I think it costs ten thousand dollars per play, A
- 37:37Speaker 1: lot of money. Yeah, it's a love for It's a
- 37:40Speaker 1: lot of money for an upgrade.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Isn't it. Yeah, I think they're going to They're doing
- 37:43Speaker 3: a monthly subscription in the States. I'm pretty sure it's
- 37:45Speaker 3: like ninety nine US dollars a month, so it'll probably
- 37:47Speaker 3: be about one hundred and fifty bucks here a month,
- 37:50Speaker 3: which a lot of money. People where I think this
- 37:53Speaker 3: might actually come in handy. Both dad and my brother
- 37:56Speaker 3: do night shift work and have to drive about eighty
- 37:58Speaker 3: ks to get to their job. There's a lot of
- 38:01Speaker 3: times where they will come home feeling very tired, or
- 38:04Speaker 3: they'll have to pull over on the side of the
- 38:05Speaker 3: road to have a power nap. It could be good
- 38:08Speaker 3: for people like that where if you are on a
- 38:10Speaker 3: longer distance drive, obviously you can't sleep while you're driving
- 38:13Speaker 3: in the car. But to prevent the type of accidents
- 38:16Speaker 3: we see a lot with micro sleeps and really drowsy drivers,
- 38:20Speaker 3: this could be a good stop gap. Obviously you should
- 38:22Speaker 3: always be stopping and having a power nap, but it
- 38:25Speaker 3: could come in handy as a backup for people like that.
- 38:28Speaker 1: It could actually be handy for people who are who
- 38:31Speaker 1: like incapable of driving a car as well.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Well. You look at older people the amount of times
- 38:36Speaker 3: and it's funny. It's actually not funny, but the amount
- 38:38Speaker 3: of times they try and make it like a whimsical
- 38:40Speaker 3: thing where they go, oh, they can use the break
- 38:42Speaker 3: for the throttle. It's going to be one time where
- 38:45Speaker 3: someone does that and you're going to kill someone. And
- 38:47Speaker 3: so far it's been quite minor accidents. But like old people,
- 38:51Speaker 3: this is great. They still have their freedom behind the wheel.
- 38:54Speaker 3: They're not confined to getting taxis and all this other stuff.
- 38:58Speaker 3: You can still, in theory be sitting in the car
- 39:00Speaker 3: and they probably have sufficient control to take over if
- 39:03Speaker 3: something goes wrong, but they're not required to be fully
- 39:06Speaker 3: in charge, which at the moment some older people struggle with.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Hmm hmm. I wonder if someone with no arms could
- 39:12Speaker 1: drive one of these.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Technically, no, because you have to be able to press
- 39:19Speaker 3: buttons on the screen. Maybe if you could press the
- 39:20Speaker 3: button on the screen somehow, press it with your nose, Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 3: press it with your tongue. I'm not laughing. Okay, so neither.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I'm not laughing at that. That was just qu'd clean
- 39:35Speaker 1: the screen at the same time. Speed a long night?
- 39:44Speaker 3: Is that anyway?
- 39:46Speaker 1: Is that fingers mudges on the screen?
- 39:48Speaker 3: There?
- 39:49Speaker 1: No, it's it's the tongue. Jesus Christ, Oh Jesus, you
- 40:05Speaker 1: wouldn't want to have it causing that. Garen then just
- 40:09Speaker 1: licked a screen. Oh anyway, anyway, anyway, driver less cars.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Oh hey, I think that's it. I thank god.
- 40:24Speaker 2: I should mention that. Next week we've got a pretty
- 40:26Speaker 2: exciting guest on Rosso.
- 40:28Speaker 3: We had Rosy, which is an interesting interview, but this
- 40:34Speaker 3: time Rosso is going to join us, so we're gonna
- 40:36Speaker 3: chat with him.
- 40:37Speaker 2: We'll try and give away some copies of his book
- 40:39Speaker 2: as well. Yeah, yeah, cool, we'll have a listen to that.
- 40:43Speaker 3: But yeah, if you got any feedback, contact at the
- 40:45Speaker 3: Drivers Show dot com dot au.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Make sure you get in touch. Let us know what
- 40:50Speaker 2: you like and don't like, which that's probably not a
- 40:53Speaker 2: bad idea.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I don't we've ever asked for feedback. Yeah, we have, okay, and.
- 40:57Speaker 1: A lot of people say they don't like this show.
- 40:59Speaker 1: That was just mainly you just mainly that out like me,
- 41:03Speaker 1: we didn't get the drivers with Paul, Paul and Trevor.
- 41:09Speaker 3: That's got a good ring to it. And Steph stop,
- 41:13Speaker 3: what are you laughing at it?
- 41:14Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 41:14Speaker 7: I was just thinking about you putting that car in
- 41:17Speaker 7: automatic drive. Let's go for a car review, Steph, worry.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Hey, you know what we didn't talk about the new
- 41:30Speaker 1: prel lude prelude We can you leave that to another episode.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I'll actually be driving it in Tokyo.
- 41:37Speaker 1: So yeah, let me know how powerless that car is.
- 41:41Speaker 1: What a hybrid piecea but wow, oh I had the
- 41:46Speaker 1: young da Ionic nine too. That's the key.
- 41:48Speaker 3: Ev It's an interesting with think.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's got quite the ass on it doesn't it.
- 41:55Speaker 1: It's it's kind of like the front of the car
- 41:59Speaker 1: was like the people who designed the front of the
- 42:00Speaker 1: car didn't really speak to the people who designed the back.
- 42:03Speaker 1: And we're like, hey, we've got this bold future in mind.
- 42:05Speaker 1: We're going to do forward thinking avant Garde and the
- 42:09Speaker 1: people who did the back went, we're going for a
- 42:11Speaker 1: fucking nineteen eighties Volvo station Wagon.
- 42:15Speaker 3: It's also very expensive.
- 42:17Speaker 1: It's very expensive, one hundred and twenty thousand dollars. I'll
- 42:20Speaker 1: tell you what it does do well. It does do
- 42:21Speaker 1: the interior quite well. It is quite a nice plush interior,
- 42:25Speaker 1: and it is quick. I mean for a big ass car,
- 42:27Speaker 1: it's like a five second car. But also it's soulless.
- 42:35Speaker 1: You know, these evs, I'm starting to get a bit mere.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Well, the interesting thing is the Santa Fe is such
- 42:40Speaker 3: a good car. I just don't know why you wouldn't
- 42:42Speaker 3: just buy that and save yourself, like fifty sixty seventy however,
- 42:46Speaker 3: many thousand dollars.
- 42:47Speaker 1: Yeah, surely that's just a better thing. Oh you know
- 42:50Speaker 1: what I saw the other day, the Young Day Palisade,
- 42:54Speaker 1: the new Palisade.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, nice, it's a nice looking car.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Again, going to be expensive though, I reckon kit it out.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I mean, Young Day are doing really cool interiors. But anyway,
- 43:05Speaker 1: we went off track.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, feedback, let us know what you like
- 43:08Speaker 3: and don't like, and if what do you think we
- 43:10Speaker 3: should review next? Yeah, let us leave us a rating
- 43:13Speaker 3: if you haven't done so, because that definitely helps us
- 43:15Speaker 3: as one as its five stars.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I think you've done all the housekeeping. Gordy and three
- 43:24Speaker 1: guys in an EV Oh yeah, three guys on a
- 43:28Speaker 1: TV you, Trevor and fucking Fenech. All right, eh, I
- 43:32Speaker 1: think I know. Let me think of my own scenario.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Gordon and Tom Baker. That could be fun. Oh no, no, wait,
- 43:41Speaker 1: wait wait.
- 43:42Speaker 3: The dirty Sanchez you could call it that the show.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Don't be a brand noser? What about? What about? What
- 43:53Speaker 1: about Gordon and the Castles guy? What's that kid? What's
- 43:57Speaker 1: that guy's name?
- 43:58Speaker 3: A brand mat?
- 44:00Speaker 1: Would you call him? Did you call him fat brown?
- 44:03Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, don't say that. Actually, I reckon if I
- 44:08Speaker 1: had a competition with that guy, I reckon I could
- 44:11Speaker 1: probably out drink him, because I reckon I've got a
- 44:13Speaker 1: better suit of tits in him.
- 44:16Speaker 3: Anyway, this is this is definitely gone downhill in next week,
- 44:20Speaker 3: hopefully for a much better show.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Bye, Gordon and Nadine. What's their face is?
- 44:29Speaker 4: No?
- 44:30Speaker 1: You know I'm gonna say to me, don't you?
- 44:35Speaker 3: I know?
- 44:36Speaker 1: With with that four balls in a four balls and
- 44:43Speaker 1: a parentids, we're out there. Bye. I Love you. The
- 44:50Speaker 1: Driver Show Podcast is looking for a sponsor. The proceeds
- 44:53Speaker 1: will be used to fulfill Paul and Gordy's last long
- 44:55Speaker 1: dream of bringing back the Go Go Mobile.
- 44:58Speaker 2: But this son isn't easy.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Is that the best idea ever? Or what? Keane? Drop
