- Lucas: Luna, ready for another episode? This is number 150! Can you believe it? Luna: Wow, 150 episodes! That's a lot of Danish. Thanks to Fexingo for keeping us going. Lucas: So today, let's review something we've learned in bits: ordinal numbers. First through twelfth. Luna: Oh good, I need that. I always mix them up after ten. Lucas: Perfect. Let's start with the basics. First is første. Luna: første. Lucas: Second is anden. Luna: anden. Lucas: Third is tredje. Luna: tredje. That one's a bit tricky. Lucas: You said it right. Fourth is fjerde. Luna: fjerde. Sounds like 'fy er de'. Lucas: Exactly. Fifth is femte. Luna: femte. Like 'fem' with a 'te'. Lucas: Yes. Sixth is sjette. Luna: sjette. That's the one with the 'sj' sound. Lucas: Right. Seventh is syvende. Luna: syvende. Lucas: Eighth is ottende. Luna: ottende. Like 'ot' plus 'ende'. Lucas: Ninth is niende. Luna: niende. Lucas: Tenth is tiende. Luna: tiende. Lucas: Eleventh is ellevte. Luna: ellevte. That one's long. Lucas: And twelfth is tolvte. Luna: tolvte. So close to 'twelve'. Okay, let me try them all in order. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: første, anden, tredje, fjerde, femte, sjette, syvende, ottende, niende, tiende, ellevte, tolvte. Lucas: That was perfect! You nailed it. Luna: Thanks. But how do we use them in a sentence? Lucas: Good question. For example: 'Han er den første i køen' — he is the first in line. Luna: Han er den første i køen. Lucas: Or 'Hun bor på anden sal' — she lives on the second floor. Luna: Hun bor på anden sal. That's useful for addresses. Lucas: Yes. And 'Det er den tredje gang' — it's the third time. Luna: Det er den tredje gang. I can use that. Lucas: Let's try a mini story. Imagine you're at a race. 'Han blev nummer fire' — he came in fourth. Luna: Han blev nummer fire. So 'nummer' plus the ordinal? Lucas: Often, yes. 'Nummer fem' for fifth, 'nummer seks' for sixth, but you can also use the ordinal words we learned. 'Han blev femte' works too. Luna: Oh, so both are okay. Good to know. Lucas: Now, you know that we've had 149 episodes before this. This is episode 150. So you could say 'Dette er den hundrede og halvtredsindstyvende episode' — but that's a mouthful. Usually we just say 'episode 150'. Luna: I'll stick with 'episode 150'. But it's cool to know the ordinal for 150. Lucas: By the way, speaking of making many episodes, a quick note. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Danish, a small group of listeners supports us through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. That's what keeps this going without ads. Luna: Yeah, it's pretty awesome that people chip in. It really helps. Lucas: So, back to ordinals. Let's do a quick quiz. I'll say the number, you say the ordinal in Danish. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: One. Luna: første. Lucas: Three. Luna: tredje. Lucas: Seven. Luna: syvende. Lucas: Eleven. Luna: ellevte. Lucas: Twelve. Luna: tolvte. All correct? Lucas: All correct. You're ready for the next episode. Luna: Great. And listeners, practice these. See you next time. Lucas: Tak for i dag. Hej hej.
