Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 26th.
- 0:11The choice that shapes your future life is full of forks in
- 0:16the road. Some of them are obvious big
- 0:19decisions with clear stakes, but most of them are small, quiet,
- 0:23daily choices that seem insignificant in the moment and
- 0:27yet over time define the direction of your whole life.
- 0:30Where you end up five years from now will be largely determined
- 0:34by the small choices you're making right now.
- 0:37Proverbs chapter 18, verse 22 says he who finds a wife finds a
- 0:42good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
- 0:45Now in context, this is affirming something profound.
- 0:49The right relationships, once built on godly wisdom and
- 0:52genuine character, carry God's favor.
- 0:55This isn't just about marriage. It's about the principle that
- 0:59choosing well in your close relationships, in what you're
- 1:02building toward, and in who you're becoming, these things
- 1:05invite blessing into your life. But First Samuel chapter 28
- 1:10shows us the devastating alternative.
- 1:13Saul, who was once chosen and anointed by God, had spent years
- 1:17making choices that moved him further from God rather than
- 1:20closer. And when he finally faced a
- 1:23crisis that terrified him, the Philistines gathered for battle.
- 1:27God was silent. He had pushed God to the margins
- 1:30so consistently that when the moment came when he needed him
- 1:33most, Saul found himself reaching into forbidden
- 1:36territory. He consulted a medium.
- 1:40He sought answers from the dead rather than from the living God
- 1:43who had once spoken to him. Clearly, the summary of Saul's
- 1:47choices is heartbreaking. He didn't seek the Lord.
- 1:51He consulted sources that were completely outside of God's
- 1:55will, and the consequences that followed were devastating, not
- 1:59just for him, but for his family and his legacy.
- 2:03Here's the thing about Saul's story that we need to sit with
- 2:06for a moment. It didn't happen all at once.
- 2:09The drift from God was gradual. Each individual compromise
- 2:13seemed manageable. Each shortcut seemed justified.
- 2:17Each moment of impatience with God's timing led to another and
- 2:21another, until Saul found himself so far from where he
- 2:24started that he no longer even recognized the distance.
- 2:29Teen and young adult life is full of these same kinds of
- 2:32gradual drift moments. Who you spend your time with
- 2:35slowly shapes your values. The content you consistently
- 2:39consume slowly shapes how you see the world.
- 2:42The habits you form right now of prayer, of reading God's Word,
- 2:46of seeking wise counsel, or the absence of those habits are
- 2:50quietly building the person you're becoming.
- 2:53God's favor is real. Blessing is real, but it flows
- 2:57toward lives that consistently choose to seek Him.
- 3:00Not perfectly but persistently, not without mistakes, but with a
- 3:05heart that keeps returning. Don't wait for a crisis to seek
- 3:09God. Don't wait until you're
- 3:12desperate to make the choice to turn toward Him.
- 3:14Make that choice today in the small things, in the daily
- 3:18habits, in the decisions that seem too ordinary to matter.
- 3:22They are not ordinary. They are the architecture of
- 3:26your future. Let's pray.
- 3:29Heavenly Father, thank You for guiding us in every choice we
- 3:32face. Forgive us for the times we've
- 3:35taken shortcuts or sought answers in the wrong places when
- 3:39we should have sought You. Help us to build daily habits of
- 3:42seeking You not just in crisis, but in the quiet, ordinary
- 3:46moments. We trust that Your plan for our
- 3:49lives is better than anything we could choose for ourselves, and
- 3:53we choose to walk in it today. In Jesus name, Amen.

- 4:56Proverbs chapter 18 Verse 22 World English Bible Whoever
- 5:01finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor of Yahweh.
- 5:05First Samuel chapter 28 World English Bible In those days the
- 5:11Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare to
- 5:14fight with Israel. Achish said to David, Know
- 5:18assuredly that you will go out with me in the army, you and
- 5:21your men. David said to Achish.
- 5:23Therefore you will know what your servant can do, a chish
- 5:26said to David. Therefore I will make you my
- 5:29bodyguard forever. Now Samuel was dead, and all
- 5:33Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Rama.
- 5:36Even in his own city Saul had sent away those who had familiar
- 5:41spirits and the Wizards out of the land.
- 5:44The Philistines gathered themselves together and came and
- 5:47encamped in Shunam. And Saul gathered all Israel
- 5:50together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
- 5:54When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and
- 5:57his heart trembled greatly. When Saul inquired of Yahweh,
- 6:01Yahweh didn't answer him by dreams, by Urim, or by prophets.
- 6:06Then Saul said to his servants, Seek for me a woman who has a
- 6:09familiar spirit, that I may go to her and inquire of her.
- 6:13His servant said to him, Behold, there is a woman who has a
- 6:17familiar spirit at Endor. Saul disguised himself and put
- 6:21on other clothing, and went he and two men with him, and they
- 6:25came to the woman by night. Then he said, Please consult for
- 6:29me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall
- 6:32name to you. The woman said to him, Behold,
- 6:35you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have
- 6:39familiar spirits and the Wizards out of the land.
- 6:43Why then do you lay a snare for my life to cause me to die?
- 6:46Saul swore to her by Yahweh, saying, As Yahweh lives, no
- 6:50punishment will happen to you for this thing.
- 6:52Then the woman said, Whom shall I bring up to you?
- 6:56He said, bring Samuel up for me. When the woman saw Samuel she
- 7:00cried with a loud voice. And the woman spoke to Saul
- 7:03saying, Why have you deceived me, for you are Saul.
- 7:07The king said to her, Don't be afraid, what do you see?
- 7:11The woman said to Saul, I see a God coming up out of the earth.
- 7:15He said to her, What does he look like?
- 7:17She said, an old man comes up, he is covered with a robe.
- 7:22Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his
- 7:24face to the ground and showed respect.
- 7:28Samuel said to Saul, Why have you disturbed me to bring me up?
- 7:31Saul answered, I am very distressed, for the Philistines
- 7:35make war against me, and God has departed from me and answers me
- 7:39no more by profits or by dreams. Therefore I have called you that
- 7:45you may make known to me what I shall do.
- 7:47Samuel said. Why then do you ask me, since
- 7:50Yahweh has departed from you and has become your adversary,
- 7:54Yahweh has done to you as he spoke by me.
- 7:57Yahweh has torn the Kingdom out of your hand and given it to
- 8:00your neighbor, even to David, because you didn't obey Yahweh's
- 8:04voice and didn't execute His fierce wrath on a Malek.
- 8:08Therefore Yahweh has done this thing to you today.
- 8:11Moreover, Yahweh will deliver Israel also with you into the
- 8:14hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will
- 8:18be with me. Yahweh will deliver the army of
- 8:22Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.
- 8:25Then Saul fell immediately his full length on the earth, and
- 8:28was terrified because of Samuel's words.
- 8:32There was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all
- 8:35day long or all night long. The woman came to Saul and saw
- 8:39that he was very troubled, and said to him, Behold, your
- 8:43servant has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in
- 8:46my hand, and have listened to your words, which you spoke to
- 8:50me. Now, therefore, please listen
- 8:53also to the voice of your servant, and let me set a morsel
- 8:56of bread before you eat, that you may have strength when you
- 9:00go on your way. But he refused, and said, I will
- 9:03not eat. But his servants, together with
- 9:06the woman, constrained him, and he listened to their voice.
- 9:10So he arose from the earth and sat on the bed.
- 9:13The woman had a fattened calf in the house.
- 9:15She hurried and killed it, and she took flour and kneaded it,
- 9:18and baked unleavened bread of it.
- 9:21She brought it before Saul and before his servants, and they
- 9:24ate. Then they rose up and went away
- 9:26that night. Thanks for joining us on Bible
