Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, June 26th.
• 0:11
The choice that shapes your future life is full of forks in
• 0:16
the road. Some of them are obvious big
• 0:19
decisions with clear stakes, but most of them are small, quiet,
• 0:23
daily choices that seem insignificant in the moment and
• 0:27
yet over time define the direction of your whole life.
• 0:30
Where you end up five years from now will be largely determined
• 0:34
by the small choices you're making right now.
• 0:37
Proverbs chapter 18, verse 22 says he who finds a wife finds a
• 0:42
good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.
• 0:45
Now in context, this is affirming something profound.
• 0:49
The right relationships, once built on godly wisdom and
• 0:52
  genuine character, carry God's favor.
• 0:55
This isn't just about marriage. It's about the principle that
• 0:59
choosing well in your close relationships, in what you're
• 1:02
building toward, and in who you're becoming, these things
• 1:05
invite blessing into your life. But First Samuel chapter 28
• 1:10
  shows us the devastating alternative.
• 1:13
Saul, who was once chosen and anointed by God, had spent years
• 1:17
making choices that moved him further from God rather than
• 1:20
closer. And when he finally faced a
• 1:23
crisis that terrified him, the Philistines gathered for battle.
• 1:27
God was silent. He had pushed God to the margins
• 1:30
so consistently that when the moment came when he needed him
• 1:33
most, Saul found himself reaching into forbidden
• 1:36
  territory. He consulted a medium.
• 1:40
He sought answers from the dead rather than from the living God
• 1:43
who had once spoken to him. Clearly, the summary of Saul's
• 1:47
choices is heartbreaking. He didn't seek the Lord.
• 1:51
He consulted sources that were completely outside of God's
• 1:55
will, and the consequences that followed were devastating, not
• 1:59
just for him, but for his family and his legacy.
• 2:03
Here's the thing about Saul's story that we need to sit with
• 2:06
for a moment. It didn't happen all at once.
• 2:09
The drift from God was gradual. Each individual compromise
• 2:13
seemed manageable. Each shortcut seemed justified.
• 2:17
Each moment of impatience with God's timing led to another and
• 2:21
another, until Saul found himself so far from where he
• 2:24
started that he no longer even recognized the distance.
• 2:29
Teen and young adult life is full of these same kinds of
• 2:32
gradual drift moments. Who you spend your time with
• 2:35
slowly shapes your values. The content you consistently
• 2:39
consume slowly shapes how you see the world.
• 2:42
The habits you form right now of prayer, of reading God's Word,
• 2:46
of seeking wise counsel, or the absence of those habits are
• 2:50
quietly building the person you're becoming.
• 2:53
God's favor is real. Blessing is real, but it flows
• 2:57
toward lives that consistently choose to seek Him.
• 3:00
Not perfectly but persistently, not without mistakes, but with a
• 3:05
heart that keeps returning. Don't wait for a crisis to seek
• 3:09
  God. Don't wait until you're
• 3:12
desperate to make the choice to turn toward Him.
• 3:14
Make that choice today in the small things, in the daily
• 3:18
habits, in the decisions that seem too ordinary to matter.
• 3:22
They are not ordinary. They are the architecture of
• 3:26
  your future. Let's pray.
• 3:29
Heavenly Father, thank You for guiding us in every choice we
• 3:32
face. Forgive us for the times we've
• 3:35
taken shortcuts or sought answers in the wrong places when
• 3:39
we should have sought You. Help us to build daily habits of
• 3:42
seeking You not just in crisis, but in the quiet, ordinary
• 3:46
moments. We trust that Your plan for our
• 3:49
lives is better than anything we could choose for ourselves, and
• 3:53
we choose to walk in it today. In Jesus name, Amen.
• 3:59

• 4:56
Proverbs chapter 18 Verse 22 World English Bible Whoever
• 5:01
finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor of Yahweh.
• 5:05
First Samuel chapter 28 World English Bible In those days the
• 5:11
Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare to
• 5:14
fight with Israel. Achish said to David, Know
• 5:18
assuredly that you will go out with me in the army, you and
• 5:21
your men. David said to Achish.
• 5:23
Therefore you will know what your servant can do, a chish
• 5:26
said to David. Therefore I will make you my
• 5:29
bodyguard forever. Now Samuel was dead, and all
• 5:33
Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Rama.
• 5:36
Even in his own city Saul had sent away those who had familiar
• 5:41
spirits and the Wizards out of the land.
• 5:44
The Philistines gathered themselves together and came and
• 5:47
encamped in Shunam. And Saul gathered all Israel
• 5:50
together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
• 5:54
When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and
• 5:57
his heart trembled greatly. When Saul inquired of Yahweh,
• 6:01
Yahweh didn't answer him by dreams, by Urim, or by prophets.
• 6:06
Then Saul said to his servants, Seek for me a woman who has a
• 6:09
familiar spirit, that I may go to her and inquire of her.
• 6:13
His servant said to him, Behold, there is a woman who has a
• 6:17
familiar spirit at Endor. Saul disguised himself and put
• 6:21
on other clothing, and went he and two men with him, and they
• 6:25
came to the woman by night. Then he said, Please consult for
• 6:29
me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall
• 6:32
name to you. The woman said to him, Behold,
• 6:35
you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have
• 6:39
familiar spirits and the Wizards out of the land.
• 6:43
Why then do you lay a snare for my life to cause me to die?
• 6:46
Saul swore to her by Yahweh, saying, As Yahweh lives, no
• 6:50
punishment will happen to you for this thing.
• 6:52
Then the woman said, Whom shall I bring up to you?
• 6:56
He said, bring Samuel up for me. When the woman saw Samuel she
• 7:00
cried with a loud voice. And the woman spoke to Saul
• 7:03
saying, Why have you deceived me, for you are Saul.
• 7:07
The king said to her, Don't be afraid, what do you see?
• 7:11
The woman said to Saul, I see a God coming up out of the earth.
• 7:15
He said to her, What does he look like?
• 7:17
She said, an old man comes up, he is covered with a robe.
• 7:22
Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his
• 7:24
face to the ground and showed respect.
• 7:28
Samuel said to Saul, Why have you disturbed me to bring me up?
• 7:31
Saul answered, I am very distressed, for the Philistines
• 7:35
make war against me, and God has departed from me and answers me
• 7:39
no more by profits or by dreams. Therefore I have called you that
• 7:45
you may make known to me what I shall do.
• 7:47
Samuel said. Why then do you ask me, since
• 7:50
Yahweh has departed from you and has become your adversary,
• 7:54
Yahweh has done to you as he spoke by me.
• 7:57
Yahweh has torn the Kingdom out of your hand and given it to
• 8:00
your neighbor, even to David, because you didn't obey Yahweh's
• 8:04
voice and didn't execute His fierce wrath on a Malek.
• 8:08
Therefore Yahweh has done this thing to you today.
• 8:11
Moreover, Yahweh will deliver Israel also with you into the
• 8:14
hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will
• 8:18
be with me. Yahweh will deliver the army of
• 8:22
Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.
• 8:25
Then Saul fell immediately his full length on the earth, and
• 8:28
was terrified because of Samuel's words.
• 8:32
There was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all
• 8:35
day long or all night long. The woman came to Saul and saw
• 8:39
that he was very troubled, and said to him, Behold, your
• 8:43
servant has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in
• 8:46
my hand, and have listened to your words, which you spoke to
• 8:50
  me. Now, therefore, please listen
• 8:53
also to the voice of your servant, and let me set a morsel
• 8:56
of bread before you eat, that you may have strength when you
• 9:00
go on your way. But he refused, and said, I will
• 9:03
not eat. But his servants, together with
• 9:06
the woman, constrained him, and he listened to their voice.
• 9:10
So he arose from the earth and sat on the bed.
• 9:13
The woman had a fattened calf in the house.
• 9:15
She hurried and killed it, and she took flour and kneaded it,
• 9:18
and baked unleavened bread of it.
• 9:21
She brought it before Saul and before his servants, and they
• 9:24
ate. Then they rose up and went away
• 9:26
that night. Thanks for joining us on Bible
