- 0:12SPEAKER_03: Some terrible news came across us this week.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, Craig Keegan, um, one of our former coaches passed away after a brief illness.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: Me and Brendan were both coached by him.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: Craig served in a variety of coaching capacities, but most memorably as an assistant coach in the 2016 Olympic gold medal winning women's team.
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: Um, everyone at Let's Stick Together sends their deepest condolences to uh Craig's family and friends.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: And we're truly saddened by hearing of the news.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Uh he was a he was an amazing guy and someone who helped me and Brendan a lot in our early uh playing careers.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: It's Let's Stick Together episode three sponsored and brought to you by the kind men and women of Y1 hockey.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: It's me, Phil.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: We've got with the two blonde lanky men who are now, as Yup has formerly said, the two best players in Great Britain and Holland respectively.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: How are you both?
- 1:27SPEAKER_05: I don't know why I don't know why Brendan is laughing about it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_05: I'm dead serious.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: By the way, what a fucking intro for you both.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: I've never been that nice to you.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: I know what's wrong with you.
- 1:38SPEAKER_05: Well, in all fairness, it's not that you were really nice, it's you said we said that we were the best.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: It's not that like you said you thought it as well.
- 1:46SPEAKER_05: So it's it's like a nice disguise of you to to say you were nice, but you weren't.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't I don't agree with it, but you know.
- 1:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, fuck you, Phil.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: But I'm doing well.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: We uh I've had a like it was uh it was a special week in the south of Holland.
- 2:03SPEAKER_05: It was uh kind of yeah, I don't know if all the English people know it.
- 2:09SPEAKER_05: It's uh it's it's actually it it's it's like a big tradition in the south of Holland, like every like in Drabant, especially in Limburg, um in which people dress up um and get shit faced.
- 2:25SPEAKER_05: That's like the summary of it.
- 2:27SPEAKER_05: So yeah, this weekend I dressed up and got shit faced, and it was a really good time.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: Oh mate, I saw some great costumes this weekend.
- 2:39SPEAKER_05: Like it's so not hockey topic, but it's it's amazing the creativity this this these guys have.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: Can you can you give us your top three?
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: Well, one was dressed as a suitcase, so he just put a suitcase around him.
- 2:52SPEAKER_05: He actually saw like a like a trolley.
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: He he saw like the handle coming out his uh out his back.
- 2:58SPEAKER_05: There was like this ginger, like not you mole ginger, but like really ginger with like a beard and everything.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: And he actually looked a bit like Vincent Fan Gogh, like the um uh the painter.
- 3:11SPEAKER_05: So what he did, he would he he made like a frame around his own head, and then he he like he put bandage on his ear, and he actually looked like a like a portrait of Van Gogh.
- 3:21SPEAKER_05: So those were like really my top two, and it's just from it's like all day, it's from Thursday till Tuesday, so it's like six six days, and everybody is like the whole city is just you see people walk, and the best part is when when when people are in groups, it's really good because everybody looks dressed up as shit.
- 3:39SPEAKER_05: The most fun is when you see someone at like noon dressed up as as stupid as you can think of, and he walks around the city on his own and nobody looks up, like it's just normal.
- 3:49SPEAKER_05: So I fucking love it.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: It's the it's one of the best parties uh of the year.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: What the one thing I like about it is the fact that you go in like your town's colours or your city's colours.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: What's your what's your what colours were you in?
- 4:01SPEAKER_05: So Tilburg is uh orange and green.
- 4:05SPEAKER_05: Uh but I went to Ainto to uh where I play hockey and I uh I actually went um and please don't laugh, but I went as an American football player.
- 4:19SPEAKER_05: Do you have the full pads on?
- 4:21SPEAKER_05: No, not the full pads, I just had like the jersey stuff.
- 4:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_05: I know I would be a kicker and I know I would be shit and whatever, but I I I felt good.
- 4:29SPEAKER_05: I felt I felt sleek.
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: I'd like the I had like a Phil Roper headband in and stuff.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Sick.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: Did you um what colours were you?
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: Were you what colours are Eindhoven's?
- 4:39SPEAKER_05: Or did you go as Tilbow colours?
- 4:41SPEAKER_05: I just went with a red shirt I I had last year, which was uh still which still smelled horribly.
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: Here, this is me.
- 4:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, let's be honest, Brendan.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: You just asked the most Brendan questions.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: It's like it's like who gives a shit what the colours are?
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: You just meant to look like a knob and get dressed up.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: No, I think it's cool.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: I think it's really cool.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a classic.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I was in green and orange last year, I was completely covered head to toe in green and orange, so there's no judgment here, right?
- 5:13SPEAKER_05: No, well, it's it's just no one really cares about it that much.
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: Only in the city of them bosses, like really about their colours and stuff, and in Tilburg some are, but it's like mostly just dress up as stupid as you can and just get fucking shit faced.
- 5:26SPEAKER_05: Like the first couple, thank you.
- 5:28SPEAKER_05: We're not gonna talk too long about the carnival, but like the first, like you know, the first hour you're a bit conscious of yourself, like what the fuck am I doing here?
- 5:36SPEAKER_05: I'm dressed up as a fucking American football player, I'm standing next to a suitcase and a Vincent Facult, and I'm drinking beer, and after an hour, you lose us all self-awareness.
- 5:46SPEAKER_05: You just get you get a little confident, you get a little drunk, and it's just a fucking good time.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: Blue goals.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: Thank you for well, I mean, yeah, we're not gonna be able to top that, but thank you for anyone who's wrote in.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, Will Raymond got in touch and said he thought he thought the PR 15 stick sounded more like a tax form than a hockey stick.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: So thank thank you to him.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: Um, which yeah, puts me in my place.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: The CEO of Y1 got in touch with us all saying, let's sort out some let's stick together stuff.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: So keep well, yeah.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: So watch this space for some really cool let's stick together Y1 hockey gear.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: Um, Paul Marks wants a woman on the pod, which you know, Mark, again, watch this space incoming in the next few weeks, I'm sure.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: He did not Nike Lorenz, which who is who's Christopher Ruhr's girlfriend, and we thought that that's a terrible suggestion after what we've what we've said about Christopher Ruhr in the last few weeks.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Probably, you know, maybe she could fight his corner a little bit.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: So maybe if you're out there, Nike, get in touch, we'll have you on.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: Wait, Nike, Nike, yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_05: I I'm I just can't no, but I just cannot fathom the fact how fucking bad you guys are at pronouncing names that are not English.
- 7:09SPEAKER_05: It's not Nike, it's not a fucking she's not a shoe, man.
- 7:13SPEAKER_05: Come on, it's Nika, Nika Lawrence.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: So so Nike, if you're out there, get in touch.
- 7:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, chug us some air max.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Um, other news, me and Brendan did play each other this weekend.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, you you show us how much you care, mate, because you didn't even message us.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: We told you this last week, you just don't care.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: You're in your own little carnival American football world.
- 7:41SPEAKER_05: No comment.
- 7:45SPEAKER_05: What's what was the score?
- 7:48SPEAKER_05: Can you give me a brief summary of the game?
- 7:51SPEAKER_05: What happened, who scored, what what give me give me the juice.
- 7:56SPEAKER_05: I'll I'll let Phil explain it.
- 7:59SPEAKER_05: Um okay, so Serbiton won.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Serbiton won 3-2.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Um they were up 2-0 at half time.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: We were terrible uh in the first half.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: I had an interesting second half.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: I scored the first goal, um, then three minutes later won a stroke, which was never a stroke.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: Um then Nick Bandrak, who is our resident stroke taker, uh, decided that he wanted to give it to me.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Um, and then I missed.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: So had an eventful day.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: We then equalised to go two all, and then Sturban scored a lucky uh goal in the last two minutes to win 3-2.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Resident.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: That is a very apt description of the game.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: It was do you know what?
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: It was it was a really fun game to play.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Um it was a good game of hockey.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: There was no no real animosity between the teams, bar one tackle.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: There was no real animosity in the in the game.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: It was all aimed at the umpires, which I think is a healthy place to be.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, it was good fun.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: It was actually really good fun.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: I came up, I came rather than the week before where I came off pretty miserable.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: I actually came off smiling, not just for the win, but more actually the way the game was played, which is like testament to where both teams are, which is nice.
- 9:16SPEAKER_05: I'm happy to hear you came off smiling.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: That's always a good sign.
- 9:20SPEAKER_05: Why why did why did uh why did uh uh banders uh throw you this stroke?
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: Um so the the long story the long story is is I genuinely thought I'd won a corner, so I didn't even look at the umpire.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: I then start walking back to the halfway, sorry, to the top of the circle.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: Banders comes up to me and says, Of ropes, I think you should have this, you should have this.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, Oh yeah, cool, I'll have a flick off the top, no worries.
- 9:48SPEAKER_03: He then hands me the ball, and then I spend the next five seconds kind of just milling around, and then I turn around, and it's just me and Maz um stood, and I was like, Oh shit, it's a stroke, and then yeah, I then push it quite softly to his right and he saves it.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Um's reasoning was that he's took lots against Maz in GB training.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Explanation, James Mazzarello, yeah.
- 10:20SPEAKER_05: Um yeah, Mass, Mass, Mess for Friends.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: I know, yeah.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Maz is Maz is a real fucker, to be honest with you, because he's he's he's just a bit too good.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, anyway, that was that was the reasoning.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: It is what it is.
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I've occasionally took strokes in the past, so it wasn't the most crazy thing.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Just got to score it next time, yeah.
- 10:42SPEAKER_05: And we can confirm Banders is a little pussy right now, right?
- 10:48SPEAKER_05: Giving away a stroke.
- 10:49SPEAKER_05: He's a striker, goals counts, goals count.
- 10:52SPEAKER_05: They all want to like we have Yelek Alama, we have a pretty shit stroke, but he still claims it because he can score goals with it.
- 10:59SPEAKER_05: Benders, step up next time.
- 11:02SPEAKER_05: Don't give, don't give Phil the fucking stroke.
- 11:05SPEAKER_05: Look at me.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: You say that, but you did you gave it me last year because everyone shot themselves and walked off at OR.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: So what you say?
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, interesting.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: You did I?
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there was there's basically I was like fourth in choice, and then with 3-2 down to Hage with three minutes left, and the ball just falls, and everyone's like, I'm not having it, I'm not having it, I'm not having it, and then I had to have it.
- 11:29SPEAKER_05: But it doesn't sound like me to say I'm not having it because I'm like an un I'm like an unreasonably uh confident guy who has a shit stroke but still will say he's the best at taking strokes, but it doesn't sound like me.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: I'm just saying what happened.
- 11:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, good for you, right?
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: We we wanted to ask you quickly because we've been neglecting you and asking you about your club stuff.
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: What is your predictions for the top four in the Hoofklaser?
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, obviously, your the the men's side because you're in it.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: So I want your predictions about where are OR currently sitting and who's gonna be the top four.
- 12:07SPEAKER_05: Well, currently Kampong is at the top, Blumedao is second, I think Pinuquet is third, and then Rotterdam is fourth, and we are in fifth.
- 12:17SPEAKER_05: We were in top four all year, and then the last game on the the the we lost against Kampong, and then we got dropped out of the first uh four.
- 12:27SPEAKER_05: My guess is uh I think kampong and blumedau are pretty much set in already.
- 12:32SPEAKER_05: I don't think they're gonna lose.
- 12:33SPEAKER_05: Uh like Kampong only drew one game and the rest they've won.
- 12:37SPEAKER_05: I think they're a little bit above uh above what they should be.
- 12:40SPEAKER_05: I don't think they're like an they're as good as being an unbeaten team.
- 12:45SPEAKER_05: Uh, I think Blumedaal is just Blumedal is like threw a lot of money around, and now they have the best squad by far in the Ofklasse.
- 12:54SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, I think it's a battle between Pinocchio, Rotterdam, and us for the last two spots in the in the playoffs.
- 13:03SPEAKER_05: Um, I feel like KZ is lingering, Klein-Zwitserland with their awesome with their they have a lot of good quality players, but they're just like they're like pushing up.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: My guess is um Oranje Road and Pinocchio will make it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_05: That will be the top four.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: You heard it here first.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: Do you think that the pro league will impact teams doing better?
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Because obviously some players will be missing each week and things like that.
- 13:31SPEAKER_05: Well, it it already did, kind of, because we played Campbell without our Belgian players and our uh New Zealand players, which is like four uh like top quality players who we were missing.
- 13:43SPEAKER_05: Um, and we love we didn't have them against another team, but I don't know which one.
- 13:50SPEAKER_05: Uh and against Pinot K, but they also didn't have their Belgian players, so it was pretty even.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: But I think, yeah, I think uh it already impacted it.
- 14:00SPEAKER_05: Um Campun was a little bit, I think, on the lucky side because they don't have they don't have foreign, yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_05: They have David Harbour, they don't really have foreign players who influence their game as much, so it was pretty uneven, but we still played a pretty good game.
- 14:11SPEAKER_05: But uh, I don't think the second half of the season will be impacted that much.
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: Having said that, I have absolutely zero clue uh when players are leaving, when pro league is, because as we mentioned quite a lot already, no one gives a shit about the Pro League.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: Well, speaking of Pro League, um, we have to bring up the fact that in the last week or two, South Africa who uh South African men who qualify for the Pro League during the Nations Cup, they won the Nations Cup, which meant that they got promoted into the Pro League, decided to pull out, their federation decided to pull out of the competition.
- 14:53SPEAKER_03: Um, also Estian Creek, again, um yeah, I'm just gonna say correct pronunciation, good film.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, got in touch with with me saying, Can you discuss it?
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: I was already, I think Brendan already wrote down, we were already going to discuss it because it's a pretty big thing.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, can you imagine a nation and any other sport qualifying for an event and then pulling out um after a month after you've won it?
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Uh I've I've tried to find out why it seems like they were unable to find the money to fund their pro league uh campaign.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Um I think I think like the big thing about it is the fact that there was no discussion.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: So there was no discussion with players, there was no discussion with staff, they just pulled out, which I think is like if you give people the opportunity, like obviously, let's face it, financially, it that's the issue.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: If you can find obviously, like you can crowdfund, you can kind of go and try and find sponsors, this, that, and the other.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: The fact that there was no discussion on it, I think is absolutely mental.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Like you can see the reaction of the players and you can see the reaction of the staff, like they're all heartbroken, and rightly so.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Like, it's a great opportunity to get on the world stage and play against the arguably the top 10 teams, and you miss that opportunity.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Um, so I think it's pretty harsh that they well, I think it's very harsh that they didn't have any discussion, quite frankly.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: I think it's a bit mental.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I just think it's crap, to be honest.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, I've I've I've pulled out a couple of quotes.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Keenan Horn, who's one of the players for South Africa, is saying we represented our country to the best of our ability, won the damn thing, and know now get told that after a decision that's already been made, we in brackets in uh withdrew.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: This set our team back tremendously and undo the hard work and sacrifice by our team.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, I can't imagine the feeling of like working hard, they have to pay and stuff to fly back and forth from South Africa, and then being told to you know they're putting everything into this and then qualifying for it, and then being told, yeah, we're not doing it now, which now means the Ireland are qualified for the pro league, which is pretty exciting for them.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: I think um it'll be quite cool.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: I think for anyone going to a trip to Ireland next year, they're really trying to grow their game, which would be pretty cool.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: But Yuppie, what do you think on the South Africa thing?
- 17:19SPEAKER_05: Well, if it's a money thing, it's it's it's really shit, but it's quite like black and white, right?
- 17:24SPEAKER_05: If there's no money for them to travel around, which is mandatory for pro league, I don't think there's much of a discussion, to be honest.
- 17:31SPEAKER_05: Well, it it it is fucking shit for them, and I get why why the players are fucking uh uh fucking hurt and that they feel like they're they're being wronged, but yeah, in the end the federation has to pay uh a shit ton of money for them to travel around the world, uh, especially uh if you're as uh isolated as uh as South Africa, because every game you play, you at least have to travel for like uh 11 hours.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what would I think what would be interesting is obviously we know we don't know anything about this, but obviously if it is money, but it's a case of can they afford it but they want to spend the money elsewhere, can they just not afford it?
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: Or like who's in a position, and also it would be nice if you're a player or a staff member being given a heads up or even having a discussion saying, Look, we're gonna have to do this.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: If any of you can, you know, muster up some idea of how we can raise this money, let's do it.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: But the fact that that didn't happen is probably where the hurt comes from.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that yeah, that that's I think that's totally fair.
- 18:33SPEAKER_05: But I yeah, again, I think um they should have at least opened up opened up the discussion to the players.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: I don't think if it's really a money thing, in like we don't have the money.
- 18:45SPEAKER_05: Um I don't think there is much of a discussion, it's just we don't have the money, we we cannot afford you guys to travel around.
- 18:52SPEAKER_05: If it's like an investment kind of thing, like we don't want to invest in the pro league, I think that's a whole different discussion.
- 18:57SPEAKER_05: I think Pakistan, for instance, once chose to not participate in the pro league, and they yeah, I think they regretted that decision uh ever since because they've totally fallen, they were already pretty much fallen off.
- 19:09SPEAKER_05: They were like they're not totally falling off the hockey, uh yeah, the hockey like uh stage, uh how do you say it's stage?
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so I mean you know, we're not particularly pro the pro league, but we obviously feel for the for the players in South Africa who've worked hard and qualified and should be playing because you know, as you say, you want to compete against the best teams, and this is the way to do it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_05: The thing with the pro league is still, and that's like it we I don't think, and that's what we want to make clear, I think all three of us is we're not against the competition of the pro league because I think that what what is really good about pro league is that you get to play every uh team every year.
- 19:49SPEAKER_05: I've had years in which I didn't even see uh New Zealand or didn't even see Australia or didn't even see India, for example.
- 19:57SPEAKER_05: If there was another like a champions trophy or whatever, you didn't even see those teams.
- 20:00SPEAKER_05: So now it's really good that you like get to get to play every team each year and that you get to play top-level teams each year.
- 20:07SPEAKER_05: I think that's what's so shit for countries like South Africa, like Ireland, like uh France or wherever who is not participating in the product, they will not see any of those teams for for a long time.
- 20:19SPEAKER_05: And I think that will really help your game.
- 20:21SPEAKER_05: It helps the game.
- 20:22SPEAKER_05: If like if we play Belgium, uh Germany or England, it's all it's it's all quite similar in European style.
- 20:30SPEAKER_05: And if you get to play India, it's a whole different style, it's a whole different game, same for Australia, same for say whoever.
- 20:35SPEAKER_05: So I think that's where they benefit a lot from, and yeah, so I think yeah, again, it's pretty hard because it's a money thing, and I have no clue um how capable they they were of getting around the world.
- 20:46SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, I yeah, I think it's a bit fun, especially if you don't have the info.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: We're just speculating now, aren't we?
- 20:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: I think that the the the just on like you've point there, like because obviously the way the world rankings work as well, with the kind of constant loss and gain of points, because that there's basically driven tests test matches out as well.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: So then the lack of test matches and not being involved in the pro league, like it's a double-edged, it's it's a real lose-lose rather than the win-win.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Like it just unfortunately it means there's less less opportunity to play nations and unless you're involved.
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: I think on on the ranking points, some other serious news, which sorry, I don't know why we're getting so serious today, but we'll I'm sure we'll snap out of it soon.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: Um, on our point a couple of weeks ago about losing ranking points and how that works, David Ames um hit me up with some a serious stat and a serious bit of how the ranking points are really affecting teams.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: Is that because Chile lost the ranking points in the World Cup, they fell from place 22 in the world to place 25.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Now, you might think, Oh, why does that matter?
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Why is that important?
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: But they are two.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: There are going to be two Olympic qualifying tournaments per gender in the next uh year to qualify for Paris if you don't win your continental championship.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: And it's basically going to contain a load of teams that they've done through the world rankings.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: And the crux of it is that two Pan America men's teams are going to be able to try and qualify.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: And they just take the ranking points, sorry, where you are in the world rankings as the top two who didn't win the Continental Championship to try and qualify for the Olympics.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: Now, because Chile fell from 22nd to 25th, it meant that the USA jumped ahead of them.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: And that meant that that means that Canada and the USA are now going to try and qualify for Paris and Chile don't get that opportunity.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: Long story short, because Chile played in the World Cup and lost so much, it means now they do not get an opportunity to try and qualify for the Olympics.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: So obviously Argentina are going to be realistically going to be top.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: And then there's a playoff between Canada and America?
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Or no, they both then, because they're ranked 16th and 22nd in the world, they will then be the two teams that get to try and qualify in one of the tournaments.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: Oh my lord.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: And there's no there's no way of Chile gaining enough points.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: According to David Ames, no.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Can you organise like nine test matches against a high-ranked opposition?
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: No, because they take the rankings from the 31st of January 2023.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: That is absolute madness, if that is the case.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: Which I'm sure it is.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: Aimsy does his due due diligence.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: That is absolutely madness.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: What a broken system.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: Question: You did you listen to that, or are you shaking your head because you don't understand or because it's mental?
- 23:57SPEAKER_05: I don't understand it.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: But that's the thing we said last week.
- 24:01SPEAKER_05: I did listen, Phil.
- 24:03SPEAKER_05: Fuck you.
- 24:04SPEAKER_05: I did listen.
- 24:06SPEAKER_05: Well, okay, I'll be on.
- 24:07SPEAKER_05: I heard you.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: I didn't really listen because I always tend to assume.
- 24:10SPEAKER_05: No, I listen.
- 24:11SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't get why the and we said it last week as well.
- 24:14SPEAKER_05: I don't get why if you play games you get punished.
- 24:17SPEAKER_05: So they get to go to a World Cup.
- 24:19SPEAKER_05: They actually did quite decent, except for one game.
- 24:23SPEAKER_05: Um they actually like really, really um made some teams struggle against them, and then as a reward, you're not even able to qualify for the Olympics.
- 24:35SPEAKER_05: Like okay, but let's let's be honest, they wouldn't even they would never qualify for the Olympics.
- 24:41SPEAKER_05: So I think it's I mean, we could it's it's really sad for them that they don't get the chance, like I agree, but they would they lost 40-nil to the Netherlands.
- 24:51SPEAKER_03: No, it's it's crazy, it's more crazy the fact that Canada and USA didn't even qualify for the World Cup and now get a chance to qualify for the Olympics, and Chile, who played in the World Cup, now don't, which I think is just the crazy stats.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: Anyway, more fun for the FIH.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: Thank you again for fucking teams over.
- 25:10SPEAKER_03: We are going to do the fun stuff straight after the break.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: So serious stuff over, and now like warm biscuits over the counter.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: We're moving on to some fun stuff.
- 25:28SPEAKER_03: Does that make any sense?
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: I really like it, you really like it.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: I like the warm biscuits over the counter.
- 25:33SPEAKER_05: We didn't use it properly.
- 25:35SPEAKER_05: Like, I think we should we I should bring in more Dutch because the Dutch have like a shit ton of sayings for everything, and they're like really good.
- 25:42SPEAKER_05: But it's I don't I think biscuits is not the correct like translation, but it's like warm sandwiches, so like it's like warm sandwiches over the couch, so they go really quickly.
- 25:53SPEAKER_05: It's like they're so they're so um popular that they're just they're warm biscuits over the couch.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: It's a good one.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: Well, keep keep translating the mental Dutch sayings into English because they always sound way funnier.
- 26:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, um, right.
- 26:08SPEAKER_03: So you came up with an idea, and we're definitely gonna run with it.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's basically who would you prefer in your team?
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: And then we're basically thinking of people past and present, of two options about who you're gonna go for, and then we're just gonna probably rip into each other, justify it, have some fun with it.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Ump, you got anything to say, or is that okay?
- 26:31SPEAKER_05: No, it's pretty solid.
- 26:32SPEAKER_05: It's like who would you take?
- 26:33SPEAKER_05: So if you had like uh if you were like the coach of a team and you get to choose uh you your club has money for like one of the two players, who would you who would you get?
- 26:44SPEAKER_05: Um, so yeah, that's pretty much it.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: Are we going with clubs?
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: Because I also came up, I was discussing this with Amesy last night, and I also said I think some players are better at club level, and some players are more uh better at international level.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: So we're pretending like it's what who who were coming to the club to win the EHL or something like that.
- 27:06SPEAKER_05: Uh yeah, so you're going to let's let's say you're going to EHL and you can bring in you can you for the EHL you can buy one player, like it's a it's a it's a mid-winter transfer period, like in Premier League, uh the trade deadline or in in the in NBA in the mid of the season, and you get to add one guy, it's either player A or player B.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Okay, nice, nice.
- 27:27SPEAKER_05: For example, for example, I'll throw one at you guys uh like uh straight away.
- 27:32SPEAKER_05: If you could take prime Mark Norse or prime Robert van der Horst, who would you take?
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: Let's have a centre back answer first.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: I'd choose Horst, man, he was so good.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: I know I know Knowles was ridiculous, but Horst, I think, was like the the first like centre back that properly took the like game, I think, by the scruff of the neck.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Horst.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: I think also because he's European, I've just seen more of him, whereas I didn't see Knowles as much because obviously he's Australian, even though he played a bit in the and Knowles gave you shit, Brendan.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: The fact that I think he's a shit bloke, I don't think helps with my decision, to be honest with you.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, I press him, he's fucking shit.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: I press him he's fucking shit.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, cheers, mate.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: Just just for that reason, I'll go for I'll go for Knowles.
- 28:29SPEAKER_05: Oh, you prick.
- 28:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think you have to you have to consider like in his prime.
- 28:34SPEAKER_05: So I think uh Norse had had like a spell in Rotterdam uh where he played also where he also played EHL.
- 28:40SPEAKER_05: He scored like this sick goal with his uh tomahawk.
- 28:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he was ridiculous at one point, but I think I I would I think I'm a bit biased because I've played with him, he's he's he's been my coach, he's still like assistant coach of my team in his prime.
- 28:54SPEAKER_05: He was fucking unreal.
- 28:56SPEAKER_05: He could just he could dribble, he had like a back-end pass, he could aerial.
- 29:00SPEAKER_05: He was at one point in he couldn't defend for shit.
- 29:04SPEAKER_05: He was a shit defender, to be honest.
- 29:06SPEAKER_05: Like he got he got passed left, right, and center.
- 29:08SPEAKER_05: So they always put him as a free man, and he was really, really good at like setting people up so that he he didn't have to do a lot.
- 29:16SPEAKER_05: Uh, but on the ball, he was like unreal.
- 29:18SPEAKER_05: But defending wasn't as important back then, so he he stood out even more.
- 29:22SPEAKER_05: So I would also take van Horst, I think, over Knowles, even though Knowles is fucking ridiculous as well.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's do another old school one prime Ashley Jackson or Prime Barry Middleton.
- 29:33SPEAKER_05: For me, this is an easy one, but I didn't get to play with both of them, uh, or I didn't even get to play with one of them, so but I would take Ashley Jackson in his prime.
- 29:43SPEAKER_05: At one point, he was the best player in the world, and I don't think I think Middleton is like, and don't don't get me wrong, I think Middleton is unreal, but Middleton is more impressive for playing the amount of games than actually being incredible, like if you know what I mean.
- 30:00SPEAKER_05: I think Ashley Jackson was like at one point, like every meeting when someone played against England or against the team Jackson was on, the meeting was about how we're gonna stop Ashley Jackson.
- 30:09SPEAKER_05: And I don't think that ever happened to Middleton.
- 30:11SPEAKER_05: Middleton is just fucking insane that the guy played 450 caps in his life or whatever it was.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: I think like I think what was amazing about Baz was the fact that he played not only so many caps, but so many caps at such a high level.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: But I think there were a few years where Ash was untouchable.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: And I think Baz was always like in the bracket of ridiculous, but not I don't necessarily think he hit probably the height that Ash hit for those years.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: So if I'm going to win something, I'd I'd take Ash, I think, to go and win something.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Whereas I'd have Baz as like your club that you'd I'd have him as the guy that you'd build a club side around, if that makes sense.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I agree with both.
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: I think when when when I started playing with Ash, he was like what you were just saying about Horst.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: I think he was um like unplayable.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: I think is probably the way to describe it.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: It's basically like he'd scare you every session you play against him, and he'd do shit every session you play, every game you play, where you'd be like, sorry, what and you just leave yourself standing there being like I just don't understand, and I think that's the that's the level he got to.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: Um okay, Brendan.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: Some so maybe a couple of quick fires Hayward or Jansen?
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: Oh uh do you know what I'd probably go Jansen?
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: I never thought I'd ever say that.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I actually I think to be fair, I'd probably go Janssen.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: Um based on just the World Cup alone, I'd probably go Janssen.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Um simple as that.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: No real explanation either.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: They're pretty similar players.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: I'd probably just go for the younger one.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: Simple as that.
- 32:03SPEAKER_03: Is that a stat?
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: I don't even know their ages.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: Um goalkeeper version, charter or permanent black.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: I've got to go, I've got to go with I've got to go with I've got to go with the big man charter.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: What was that?
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: What was that sound, bro?
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Oh no reason.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: Uh I've got to go with charter.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: Who was the second guy?
- 32:25SPEAKER_03: Oh fuck's sake.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: No, no, I'm not I genuinely didn't want I'm not doing it.
- 32:31SPEAKER_05: Permanently oh, beerman black made you sick.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: No, but honestly, no, no, no.
- 32:41SPEAKER_05: Phil just fucking swallowed half his words.
- 32:45SPEAKER_05: I heard it.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: No, that was me.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I'd go charter.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: I'd go charter.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: I'd go charter.
- 32:50SPEAKER_05: I think that's fucking stupid.
- 32:52SPEAKER_05: I think charter is one of the most overrated goalies there is.
- 32:56SPEAKER_05: I don't think he's that good.
- 32:57SPEAKER_05: Permanent is way better than charter, I think.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: You're talking prime, eh?
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, we're talking right now now.
- 33:04SPEAKER_05: Right now, on it right now, especially.
- 33:06SPEAKER_05: I don't think charter is that good, to be honest.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: No, I agree.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: I'd take Permanent every day.
- 33:11SPEAKER_05: I'd take Perman over Charter.
- 33:12SPEAKER_05: I think well, okay, we're talking rel relatively.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: Relatively relatively, relatively.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: No, you're right, you're right.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: You ignore him.
- 33:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we're talking relatively.
- 33:24SPEAKER_05: Uh but like it charter is is a is a is a is a good goalie.
- 33:29SPEAKER_05: I think he's you're not the first goalie of Australia if you're not good, but I think he's not I think Piermin was like close to being the best goalie uh this tournament again.
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: So I think I'd take Piermin any day of the week.
- 33:40SPEAKER_05: Okay, no.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: I I think just on this tournament though, I also think the Dutch defense was better at helping Piermin, whereas I think the Aussie defense was found lacking.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: I think this tournament.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: It's the first time that I think they've been very average as a back unit.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah, Bren.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Me or Yupe.
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: Oh, are we talking on the pitch of outside the pitch?
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: So we're talking we're talking Carnival Yupe or uh I've got to go with Carnival Yupe.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know.
- 34:13SPEAKER_05: Hey, Carnival Yup is a fucking treat.
- 34:16SPEAKER_05: I'll tell you that.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: There's a fucking six flugals in your pocket in a decent.
- 34:21SPEAKER_06: In Holland, we say also a hole in your hand.
- 34:23SPEAKER_05: I don't know if that's a saying in English.
- 34:26SPEAKER_05: Uh no, a hole in your hand.
- 34:28SPEAKER_05: Well, at Carnival, I have a hole in my hand.
- 34:30SPEAKER_05: So, like when you when you try to take cash, or like when you have your money and it falls through your hand, so you you spend a lot, we call it a hole in your hand.
- 34:37SPEAKER_05: And I have a hole in my hand.
- 34:39SPEAKER_05: I can I'll just be the one, yeah.
- 34:41SPEAKER_05: I'll get beer, I'll get beer, I'll get whatever.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: You have many bad traits, you but one of them is not generosity, you are a very generous guy, and yeah, and let that be said.
- 34:58SPEAKER_05: What the fuck, Phil?
- 34:59SPEAKER_05: Come on.
- 35:00SPEAKER_06: It's come, Phil.
- 35:03SPEAKER_06: Honestly, you have many bad traits, but not one of them.
- 35:08SPEAKER_06: That's such a fucking shitty way to compliment a guy.
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: Phil, you are fucking ugly, you're terrible to look at, but you're not not a bad guy.
- 35:17SPEAKER_06: That's what you just said.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Have you met placing wooden biscuits over the couch?
- 35:21SPEAKER_03: This is a classic English way of being nice.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: It's like, I'm not I'm not gonna be so nice to you, I'm not gonna say you're an all-around nice guy, but you're a generous guy.
- 35:32SPEAKER_03: God, just take the compliment.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Jesus Christ, you're such a I'll I'll give you I'll give you one.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Christopher Zella or Marcus Mark Mirko Proizer.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Right now, or prime prime, prime Zella versus Prime Proiser.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I don't think that's hard, Bren.
- 35:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's like that's what she said, but also that's Christopher Zella.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: Like, just check him on, just check him with still functioning, then I'll go prime Kemperman or Prime Simon Child.
- 36:01SPEAKER_05: Oh, good one.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: I think it's easy.
- 36:06SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm uh I but then again, sorry, I'm biased because Mr.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Backhand, he's he's I'm a real fan, so I'm a Kemperman guy through and through.
- 36:17SPEAKER_05: Oh interesting.
- 36:18SPEAKER_05: I thought you were like Zag Golloway, Zagre.
- 36:23SPEAKER_05: Mr.
- 36:23SPEAKER_05: Beckhead, what a shitty, really shitty nickname, by the way.
- 36:27SPEAKER_03: What are you talking about?
- 36:28SPEAKER_06: I love Mr.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: Backhand.
- 36:30SPEAKER_06: Oh, I think it's such a fucking shitty little Mr.
- 36:34SPEAKER_06: Beckhead.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: I think it's what you're going for.
- 36:38SPEAKER_05: I mean Child, yeah, it's not cool, but I'm taking I'm taking uh Camperman as well.
- 36:44SPEAKER_05: I think I I've never really played against Prime uh Child, or I know at Rotterdam it was they had a spell which it was like pretty good, but I think uh Camperman had like a fade.
- 36:55SPEAKER_05: I think 2014 World Cup he was fucking unreal.
- 36:57SPEAKER_05: So uh yeah, so is Child.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: I thought Child was unbelievable at 2014 World Cup.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's got some sick goals.
- 37:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but I I think uh yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_05: Who would who would you guys um have for so you're starting your own team and the next three years of their career?
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: Who would you take?
- 37:16SPEAKER_05: So they're signing a three-year contract, van Dore or the Slover.
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: So you have to take durability a bit with it.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: I'm zaging the Slover, yeah.
- 37:28SPEAKER_05: So me too.
- 37:29SPEAKER_05: I'm Slover as well.
- 37:30SPEAKER_05: I think, especially in the next three years, I think the Slover every every this World Cup again.
- 37:36SPEAKER_05: I thought he was uh like I don't I don't want to say by far, but I think he was the best defender of the World Cup.
- 37:43SPEAKER_05: I think it was not really that close.
- 37:45SPEAKER_05: I thought he was really, really good, especially in the games in which Van Doren didn't play.
- 37:49SPEAKER_05: He really stepped up, and you felt like he was the one who was taking charge of the whole Belgian team.
- 37:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah, uh again, I'm a bit I'm a bit biased because he's in my team, but I think I would also take him the next three years, like for sure.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: Uh but I think he's comfortably top five players in the world right now.
- 38:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: I think comfortably I think comfortably.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: Like every time I see him play, I don't really see him having have an off game.
- 38:13SPEAKER_03: He doesn't seem to have many, he doesn't seem to have any weaknesses.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: So yeah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_05: Who who who is your top five?
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna write mine down.
- 38:32SPEAKER_03: Wallace.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:37SPEAKER_05: Wallace.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Ringman Yeah, he's in there somewhere.
- 38:42SPEAKER_03: I think I think uh or that he's close, he's for sure in the in the the top ten.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: I think how how am I in the ten probably not making my top twenty five plus twenty-five.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: Um I think Van Orbal's in mind.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: I thought he was so good at work.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: I think I think if you're going off, which is quite a nice thing, we've just had a major tournament, so you can start to go off it.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: I think uh Grambush still showed that he's he's right there, and I think uh he probably makes mine.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: I've always I'm always a bit biased though because I like watching like really sick midfielders play and kind of like work a game.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: He could sit in deep, he could sit in deep centre mid and then he can run forward and score your goal.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: I think that's absolute dreamland.
- 39:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I just I my my thing is still for me.
- 39:37SPEAKER_05: I think I take um I think Velle, the Slover, Wallace, Bringman, and I think still van Doren is in there.
- 39:46SPEAKER_05: Also, again, it's a bit biased because I'm I'm in his position or like close to his position.
- 39:51SPEAKER_05: The thing with him, like what people don't really see, he's not like a the player anymore who's like slapping it around, who's running with the ball.
- 40:00SPEAKER_05: He I think he's a bit more because everybody knows his strength so so much, they're like adjusting to his game.
- 40:05SPEAKER_05: But I think he has the ability to make everyone around him play better every game he plays.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: When he's on the field with Blumenau, when he's on the field with Belgium, always the whole team just runs like it smoothly, it's organized, everything is like set up.
- 40:19SPEAKER_05: He just and the the small things he does, he never loses a ball, he never passes it to someone in a different color shirt than himself.
- 40:26SPEAKER_05: He's like always on.
- 40:28SPEAKER_05: I think the slova is just a bit more out there now, who's like like really with like crossing, uh like uh uh going past different lines and stuff.
- 40:37SPEAKER_05: But I think Vandor is still if he's in your team, your team automatically becomes a contender.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: Um De Hoos, I think, is is is either top seven or top five for me still.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I think still still going under the radar, still just just casually being very, very good defensively, very good offensively, making stuff happen, making the game run.
- 40:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I I agree with you, but I think he's a bit in where Wallace was a year ago.
- 41:06SPEAKER_05: So I think he's he's he has the quality to become like a top player.
- 41:12SPEAKER_05: I'm not I wouldn't be surprised if he gets nominated for like not that it matters that much, but like for an award this year.
- 41:19SPEAKER_05: Uh but I think he needs like again this World Cup, he was good, but he wasn't like great great, and I think that's his his next step.
- 41:28SPEAKER_05: I think he has all the potential, and I think I would if I get to choose one midfielder uh in the in in Holland to play with, it's always the case.
- 41:35SPEAKER_05: I think he's by far the best midfielder Holland has right now, but I think he just needs that one more like step.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: I think also people question a lot, and I actually think this is probably the same for Zach uh Wallace now.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: Sorry, is that like to to start being considered a best player in the world um or a top five player in the world, you have to do it on the biggest stage in the biggest moments, and unfortunately, I think he has to wait for us as England or GB to get in them big moments for him to properly shine.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: I am absolutely adamant that he will, but like you it's almost like an unspoken rule and a spoken rule, to be honest with you.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Whenever you talk about other sports, whenever you talk about, you know, even if you're talking golf, tennis, football, American football, basketball, is that you need to be in a top, top team to get them individual accolades as well.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: Like you cannot, for example, you can't if you're in basketball, you can't win MVP most valuable player if you haven't got a record that is above uh 500.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: Like it just doesn't happen.
- 42:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I agree, but I I I do think as I I don't think the German team has a better squad than the English team right now.
- 42:51SPEAKER_05: So I I I get it, but that's why for me, Vela is now on another level.
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: He's single, like what single-handedly is like an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.
- 43:02SPEAKER_05: He like took the tournament by the balls, grabbed the nuts, and took it by by himself.
- 43:07SPEAKER_05: He fucking made them world champion, he delivered, he scored his shootouts, he did everything he he he what he did was good.
- 43:14SPEAKER_05: I think that's what makes you the right now the best player in the world, and I think that's also uh the Zach Wallace is for me top three without a doubt, but I think he can like again take take it in take matters really into his own hands and really just decide a game.
- 43:31SPEAKER_05: And if you're 2-0 up against Germany, he's not gonna let it happen that you guys still draw the game.
- 43:36SPEAKER_05: I know it's it's it's harsh, but that's if we're talking best player in the world, I think that's like a level that's like another level.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: If you're gonna be the best player in the world, you have to be held to a to an almost ridiculous standard.
- 43:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's why you're the best in the world.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think what's like quite interesting though is the fact that like the fives that you both have chosen, like I'd I'd have Velen, Slough, uh Wallace, Brinkman, and I'd have Van Orblin there.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: But I think what's interesting is that the top fives that we've all picked, there's still years left in them in terms of like majority of them, if not all of them, are still not probably at the prime in terms of they've still got a fair few years to go with that, which is what's quite interesting.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: I think whereas like previously you'd have seen you'd have probably picked people who are at that age, but I think we're now in that bracket where there's still a fair few more years to go.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: So I don't necessarily think the ceiling's finished in terms of for those guys, which is what's quite cool at the same time.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: Okay, I've got a couple for you, you're prime dweller, prime de Noya.
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I gotta go with with the duchy prime de noir.
- 44:39SPEAKER_05: Okay, to be honest, I've I've I wasn't really a hockey badger in the way back then to watch a lot of hockey.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: So I played a lot of hockey, but I didn't watch a lot, so I don't really know um either of them too well, but like from highlights and stuff, and I've known everybody who's played Pitt or against the Neuer.
- 45:00SPEAKER_05: Uh he was fucking unreal.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's do a quick fire three for you.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: Grambush or Venier?
- 45:09SPEAKER_03: Grambush, Peliat or Hendrix?
- 45:12SPEAKER_03: Hendricks, Ward or Bandrack?
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: Neither, no, Benderek.
- 45:20SPEAKER_05: I think I think to clarify, I think Benderek because his his corner is better, I think, than Wards.
- 45:27SPEAKER_05: Uh, I think they're pretty similar in style of play.
- 45:31SPEAKER_05: Uh, but I think he's uh he score is a better uh flick.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: I think Hendrix Payot is like clear.
- 45:37SPEAKER_05: Hendrix has by far the best corner in the world right now, and I think hockey-wise, they don't uh separate themselves too much.
- 45:45SPEAKER_05: To be honest, I was struggling a bit because I'm a huge fan of Meigier.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: I think uh for uh uh his lack of like technical skills.
- 45:53SPEAKER_05: If I'm being like I don't think he's the most, but he's so fucking um quick physically.
- 46:00SPEAKER_05: I think he's he's one of the best, if not the best player in the world, like physically, he's fucking quick, he's agile, he can move, he can run on PC defense, and I think hockey-wise, he just really upped his game every year.
- 46:12SPEAKER_05: So I but I think Gambush is just he's my type of player, he's silky smooth, he he everything he does looks cool.
- 46:18SPEAKER_05: I think he's uh and he just became world champion, which is like also pretty good.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: Right, nice place to finish.
- 46:25SPEAKER_03: That has been our little quick fire.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: Who would you prefer in your team?
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: If you've got any cool ones, definitely send them in and we'll try and answer.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: I think we'll probably we'll we'll do a um a couple of versions of that.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: We'll chuck in at some some juniors, some keepers, uh some other stuff.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: So let us know.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: Shit or hit, people are really keen on getting these into us.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Um, first of all, we've had actually two of these who've come in in the last week: James Bateman, uh huge hockey badger, England, England hockey coach, University of Nottingham coach, um asked us tube socks.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: So these are the socks that you cut off and then you wear grip socks underneath.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: Um shit or hit?
- 47:11SPEAKER_05: Hit hit hit, yeah.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: It's easy, but I don't really I think we all do that, so I mean that's quite biased, isn't it?
- 47:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's it's really biased.
- 47:22SPEAKER_05: I think I have to admit.
- 47:23SPEAKER_05: I I I'm I'm I started with the grip socks, but now I just wear like the Adidas white socks under it because I've cut them all off, which is like not really okay, but I like I I I like it, makes me feel a bit like a football player.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 100%.
- 47:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, if we're standing on the other side of the fence and I'm not wearing grip socks and tube socks together, I'm saying, well, did you ever really struggle for grip before?
- 47:50SPEAKER_03: Are you just doing it because it's cool?
- 47:52SPEAKER_05: Well, I was struggling for grip, to be honest.
- 47:55SPEAKER_05: Um, but in all fairness, I'm still struggling for grip a little bit.
- 47:59SPEAKER_05: So I thought I thought tube socks, I thought uh it was meant something else because I wanted to say shit.
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: Uh I thought you were talking about like the the the stocks you in Holland you have like stocks energy so like the compression stocks.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're shit.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: I fucking hate them.
- 48:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's shit.
- 48:20SPEAKER_06: Ah fucking disgusting people who like it.
- 48:23SPEAKER_03: Are they the ones that say professional?
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: Are they the ones that say they like recover your calves better?
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the old the old mountain runners, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, no, get out.
- 48:32SPEAKER_05: Okay, we're a fucking hockey player.
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: Stop wearing fucking ridiculous socks.
- 48:36SPEAKER_05: It looks shit and it will not help.
- 48:39SPEAKER_05: Ruben Elliott asked towel grips.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: Shit.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Shit, yeah, shit.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: You know the the grips that is like towel uh texture?
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: I don't think they have them in Holland.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: No, I can imagine a towel for your hockey grip.
- 48:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's like I cannot I cannot imagine it.
- 49:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, is it like really a towel?
- 49:02SPEAKER_05: Is it like the the one the one like in the corner of your of your bedroom, all crunched up, like in Brennan's bedroom, who's like standing up straight.
- 49:16SPEAKER_06: It adds extra grip when it's crunchy, right, Brett.
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: On to the next one.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: This podcast does explic does contain explicit material of a sexual nature.
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: Fantastic.
- 49:30SPEAKER_02: Next one.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: Um, wearing sweatbands.
- 49:36SPEAKER_05: We covered it already once.
- 49:39SPEAKER_05: I said shit back then, and I still think it's shit.
- 49:43SPEAKER_05: It looks shit.
- 49:44SPEAKER_05: It looks it looks shit.
- 49:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you look ridiculous, Brent.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: So does Samford, so does John John Doman.
- 49:52SPEAKER_03: Don't two of us are good blokes.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Next one.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Oh sitting in the goal at halftime.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: We've all done it, we've all done it.
- 50:06SPEAKER_06: I fucking love it to be honest.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: Like you're all scooched up, and I think it's good.
- 50:11SPEAKER_05: And then, as Brendan said in one of the first episodes, bring back oranges and like bring with like the fruit basket or whatever.
- 50:17SPEAKER_05: I think 100%.
- 50:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah, bring a fruit basket.
- 50:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, same, same as like the stick, like the the backpack with the stick diagonally in the back and stuff, or like the the the stick back with like only which only fits your stick.
- 50:30SPEAKER_05: I think that shit has to come back.
- 50:32SPEAKER_05: Nostalgia, like own that we're a fucking amateuristic sport.
- 50:36SPEAKER_05: Let's own it, let's show it.
- 50:38SPEAKER_03: Why one hockey?
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: We've just worked out what our next items are gonna be.
- 50:41SPEAKER_03: It's the let's sit together singular stick bag.
- 50:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, um, yeah, I think it's a hit, even though it's like the most amateur thing in hockey, isn't it?
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: Sitting in the goal at halftime.
- 50:55SPEAKER_05: So good though.
- 50:56SPEAKER_05: I love it.
- 50:57SPEAKER_05: Well, I've we've we've had we've had a fucking and and I said in the locker room, I said I said again, this shows how amateuristic our sport is.
- 51:06SPEAKER_05: I did I tell you already that we were in the same locker room as Hagese when we played them in the practice match?
- 51:12SPEAKER_05: No.
- 51:13SPEAKER_05: We yeah, so we played a practice match and we we had to go to Hagese away.
- 51:20SPEAKER_05: Then two days before we played the game, we were not, they said, okay, we're not going to Hagese, we're going to Rotterdam.
- 51:27SPEAKER_05: So we're not playing at Hagese, we're not playing at Rouge Road, but we are playing Hagese at Rotterdam.
- 51:32SPEAKER_05: So I was already a bit like agitated, like, why the fuck do I have to go to Rotterdam to play Hagese?
- 51:37SPEAKER_05: Can they not come to us?
- 51:39SPEAKER_05: We go up there, we see the first team of Rotterdam training, so we're playing the second pitch.
- 51:44SPEAKER_05: So I have to drive all the way to fucking Rotterdam to play on the second pitch of Rotterdam.
- 51:50SPEAKER_05: Already fucking annoyed with like what the fuck, which what sport am I actually doing?
- 51:55SPEAKER_05: Then I come in the locker room and I see that we're sharing the locker room with fucking HC.
- 52:00SPEAKER_05: Someone puts on music, I didn't even know whose music it was.
- 52:03SPEAKER_05: We were there, and I was just thinking, what has this what am I doing?
- 52:07SPEAKER_05: This is like the peak.
- 52:09SPEAKER_05: Zach Wallace was there.
- 52:10SPEAKER_05: He's like, as we said, top three in the world.
- 52:13SPEAKER_05: It's like the slovo was there.
- 52:15SPEAKER_05: Top three in the world, and we're sharing a fucking locker room.
- 52:18SPEAKER_05: This is like the highest level of hockey there is, and we're in the same fucking locker room.
- 52:24SPEAKER_05: So the showering, I'm fine with it.
- 52:26SPEAKER_05: I can see some dicks and I can see what everybody's packing, but like fucking that's not on.
- 52:32SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, that's a hell of a rag.
- 52:37SPEAKER_03: Sports betting on club matches.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: We're not allowed, are we?
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: I think we should be allowed because it would be really exciting to see.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: We could we could start setting up, we could be like the let's stick together tipsters where we'd like be like put on this bet.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: I'd love to do that, you know.
- 52:55SPEAKER_03: Do you think do you think you'd be able to genuinely make money out of it?
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: No, I'd I'd I'd be giving out horrendous tips, but it'd be good fun to think it through.
- 53:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I think it would it, I think betting adds so much value to this to a sport.
- 53:10SPEAKER_05: It sounds ridiculous, but I think every sport on which you can bet adds like a level to it.
- 53:15SPEAKER_05: Golf, basketball, NFL.
- 53:17SPEAKER_05: Like if you can bet on it, you're going to watch it, which creates more, which creates more.
- 53:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 53:24SPEAKER_05: I could watch like the sixth team of under 16 or an Erote against uh Tilburg, uh the seventh team, and if I put money on it, I would be fucking interested to see what happens.
- 53:35SPEAKER_05: For sure.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: And I didn't didn't um Simon Orchard do some tipping on the on the World Cup.
- 53:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, we should get him on.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I agree.
- 53:48SPEAKER_05: That'd be a good idea.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: Love Australians.
- 53:51SPEAKER_05: Little little Australian versus England.
- 53:53SPEAKER_05: We could really dive into where the hatred for Australians comes from, Phil.
- 53:57SPEAKER_05: We could ask what ask a guy.
- 53:59SPEAKER_03: And well, I mean, yeah, I I I agree, but like sports betting, seriously, it'd be quite good for us to start giving out some tips, some terrible tips on it.
- 54:08SPEAKER_03: Like Brendan, who are you playing this weekend?
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: Wimbledon and Hampstead.
- 54:13SPEAKER_03: Who are you putting money on?
- 54:14SPEAKER_03: First goal scorer.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: First goal scorer.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, that is I I look Taylor.
- 54:23SPEAKER_05: Who are you putting money on, Phil?
- 54:24SPEAKER_05: Who wins the toss?
- 54:25SPEAKER_05: Who's who's taking who's like who's taking ball?
- 54:28SPEAKER_05: You could also better me.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Can we can we can we can I get can I have a rant about something?
- 54:34SPEAKER_02: No.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: That's really annoyed me.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: No, you can't, sorry, mate.
- 54:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go.
- 54:39SPEAKER_02: I saw today that there's a there's been an award for a women's lacrosse player for winning the most um like scrimmages in the middle of the pitch to start the game.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: She's won the award with something like 693 or something, which brings me on to like American sports.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: And what I mean by this is I'm sorry, but um head coach of um North Carolina Tar Heels is Erin Matson.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: She's apparently the goat, she's known as the goat, apparently, in America.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: She's played, obviously plays hockey, she's 22, she's just graduated, and everyone's calling her the goat, and I can't get my head around it.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Phil, I've lost you both.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what the fuck are you talking about?
- 55:24SPEAKER_02: Oh god, I'll rant next episode about it.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Don't worry about this one.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: I just I've really like I've lost my head.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: I'll finish with a rant.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: If you haven't watched The Last Dance on Netflix, I mean definitely watch it.
- 55:37SPEAKER_03: But people who now post about the last dance, they're like, oh, it's the last dance when it's the last game of the tournament, right?
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: You don't understand what the last fucking dance is.
- 55:47SPEAKER_03: It is Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls last dance together before they all went their separate ways and they won their sixth NBA title together.
- 55:56SPEAKER_03: So you being a European B division posting about you're at the last dance is not a fucking thing.
- 56:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no one should ever compare anyone or anything to Michael Jordan.
- 56:12SPEAKER_05: No one.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 56:18SPEAKER_03: On that note, this has been Let's Stick Together, episode three.
- 56:47SPEAKER_05: We're like improving, we're giving you excellent content, and I want people to let us know what they think by sending us an email.
- 56:58SPEAKER_06: Let's let's stick together.
- 57:00SPEAKER_06: Brandon has a towel in the corner of his room at gmail.com.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: It means they're really warm, lovely biscuits over an oak MS counter.com
