- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club, a devoted husband, a caring father. And we ain't talking about Abraham Lincoln. We watch the 2026 Kate Brenton comedy documentary film Brent's Birthday. So lift your weightless brother over your head. And make sure to feed him two bags of chips, two pieces of pizza, one mirage bar. 30 candies, three zen, two beer, and a soda. Because we're the mermans of podcasting. And this show is our famous tweet about the grink. Okay, let's do it together. Three. Happy birthday Wait, wait. You say it how you're gonna say it, and then I will know how I will say it. Okay. Happy birthday, big cat. Meow. Ready? Yes. Three, two, one. Happy. Happy birthday, no big cat. Okay, we'll do it separate. We'll do it separate. We'll do it separate. Sorry. Happy birthday, big cat. Now happy birthday, big cat. You do it too, Juliet. You do it too. Now you say happy birthday, big cat meow. Happy birthday, big cat meow. Perfect. This is what it sounds like when we do a podcast. We're currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club, and you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. Because it's simply more important to us. It's as important to us as the union is to President Lincoln. So I gotta ask my two little patriots how we do. You guys, we've been through a war together already today. We've been figuring out podcasting audio issues for an hour and 20 minutes together. It was our Gettysburg. It was our Gettysburg. And what the audience did not hear was that we did that intro f perfectly four different times. Yeah. We did so many times. I was told the first time that my cannonball wasn't good. Just to give the audience why we had a Gettysburg of our own is that they keep on saying I'm popping. I have a new microphone and Kate and Nate were are are unhappy with the sound. So I I at Nate's ⁓ behest I went and changed microphones back to the old one. I changed multiple levels probably twenty times. Then we decided as as experts sound engineers that we are that maybe the problem is I was in the basement, so we'll go upstairs. So we tried that and then I now I'm upstairs and Nate decided maybe we go back with the the new microphone. So I had to go back downstairs, get the new microphone, come up and hook it up. And it turns out the problem is not at all with the microphones or the or anything. It's It's and the on the recording it's not popping at all. It's just popping for Nate and Kate. So I spent an hour and twenty minutes up and down like ⁓ a blue heiress fly because Nate and Kate were slightly uncomfortable with the popping sound. I think I think I was concerned for the audience's well being more than my own personal discomfort. Yeah. The man with a life altering foot condition, multiples, two sets of stairs I had to go up. Up and down. You could have set a boundary and said you didn't want to do that, Brett. I'm not gonna take on that shame for your pain. I at one point I felt like deep purple's roadie. I was changing mics and on hooking gear, moving it around, up and downstairs. But you know, anything for our audience. And we have started this podcast two other times. This is our third time starting it, and each time I want to bring up That jelly roll and bunny are getting divorced. And I I know, guys. It's the first time you're hearing it. And for the third or fourth time, I'm gonna say, I have a joke I came up with, by the way. ⁓ but I'm gonna take my victory lap. I called this correctly in the past, Jelly Rolls Fraud, fake, him and bunny are just fake, faked it, faked it, faked it, faked it. You can't go from what they were to what they are. And how it's too much, too fast, too soon. And I called it. I was right. ⁓ They've been married for almost ten years, Brent. That's not too fast too soon. What actually happened, even though I don't know this, is that that man lost several hundreds pounds and thinks that he's gonna do better. He's gonna Well, let's or hey probably maybe she liked the big guy. You know what I mean? Maybe she was like, she likes to feel squished. And she's I barely feel squished at all anymore. I feel very this might tr this might poke at me because I divorced my husband after he lost a hundred pounds. Because so I think that there's something to that. I think men lose weight or women. I think it doesn't have to be gender, but I think if someone who's overweight and then they lose weight and they get quote unquote hot, they start think They they start judging the decisions they made when they were fat. As you know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Do you want to hear my joke? Yeah, I do. What does jelly roll and a clumsy magician or no, sorry, let's scream. Great joke, Brett. Sh listen. What does jelly roll and a clumsy magician have in common? What? I don't know. They're both dropping bunnies. That is pretty good. It's gonna go. It's gonna go, bro. I know. I know. I I I I I said that out loud maybe a minute and a half after I read the divorce news. That's how quick the spraying this engine works. So we gotta get this guy on a late night riding staff, because I do I can imagine Seth Myers delivering that with fifty percent conviction. He would go, Who wrote that? And he personally wanna shake my hand like that guy on the airplane. Would you guys want to hear what's been happening? I would love to. Yeah, what's happened? ⁓ I just have a public serv first I have a public service announcement for everyone. ⁓ if you are laying horizontally and it's past 10 PM and it's like bedtime, you're not allowed to buy anything. You can put it in your cart and then come back to it. But nighttime. Right before sleep is the worst time to buy things because you already have decision fatigue. So you're gonna make some choices that later on you're like, ⁓ I didn't realize I should have. So what did you buy? Well, I haven't been because I've been very cognizant of it because that's the time of night where I like to just like put a lot of things in carts. Mm-hmm. And I never let myself buy things until the next day where I'm like, Okay, do I you know what I mean? I make a confession. Yes, Brent. I'm I've never put anything in a cart. I don't know how do that. You've never purchased anything online? Not where it requires like multiple put in cards. Okay, so when you check out of Steam, what would you describe the checkout process as? ⁓ I don't go on Steam. I'm an Xbox guy. I do renew membership on Xbox, but that's just one time. Microsoft card. Your cart. Do you guys don't ever use Amazon? I don't. Melissa does. Melissa had to go in and rent Lincoln on her own YouTube from for me and give me her login so I could watch it. ⁓ that did really come as a surprise to me that Lincoln wasn't streaming anywhere, but it was for me. It was free on Hulu in America. In a shocking turn of events here, it was on sale. For the same price as the rental, $4.99. I now own Lincoln. I can watch Lincoln as many times as I fucking want to. Hell yeah. Well, until the Amazon Corporation decides that I no longer own goods and services that they sold me and promised to s let me have. But until then. ⁓ Juliette said something really nice to me ⁓ about me. And ⁓ it took me by surprise so much that I blanked out. And I don't remember what she said, but I know that it made me feel so good. Do you want me and Brent to just each say nice things about you just to like get in the vibe of the area? No, it's okay. Because just the memory, just the memory of her saying the nice thing that was so nice that I had never heard her say before. And I remember thinking, like, I've never heard her say that to me about me before. And I totally blanked out, like. went somewhere else because it felt so wouldn't that be funny if you they had a like a a condition like the fainting goats that every time someone gave you a compliment you p fainted. Yes. And I also have the what happens when you are in ⁓ ingesting information and knowledge where I go, my eyes roll back in my head. And ⁓ for the audience, I don't do that. Brent does it just for the audience. It's a cartoon, right? I haven't figured out a way to make the cartoon do it yet, but every time Brent takes in information, he goes ⁓ and then when you get a compliment, you faint. Yeah. Yeah. Like a goat. ⁓ so Nick last night told me, he said, ⁓ did you know that I messaged Brent? And I said, No. He said, Excuse me? And because Nick was playing some hockey game, some new hockey game, and he chose the team from Cape Brenton. And so he was very excited that that was an option. What kind of video game has Cape Brenton team on it? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's let me, as the recipient of the DM and the exchange of the DM, let me I got a message and a screen and a picture from my buddy Nick of It was on his legs. Nope, it was his player wearing the Cape Breton Eagles uniform that he created, and he said, I'm trying to get to the Memorial Cup with Cape Breton before Kate gets here. And I said, ⁓ buddy, I'm literally right next to their arena. So for the NHL players out there, he was playing be a pro. He was a young seventeen year old player playing for a Cape Breton Eagles. I mean, that's that's a nod to me, ultimately. Absolutely. Yeah, that's a tribute to his dear friend Brent. Yeah. And I thought that was very nice. He's a very nice boy. And so he let me know that ⁓ he won the Memorial Cup and he got drafted eighth to the Seattle Kraken. ⁓ tough. That's a tough road to hoe. He's he's got a long way to the cup, but eighth? It's a good contract. He's gonna get uniforms. Great uniforms. Later that night. I I had shared earlier while we were dealing with all this audio stuff. I had shared with Nate that ⁓ yesterday I ⁓ bought myself a package of donuts, like a bag of hostess donuts. Small ones. Okay, Homer. And ⁓ I had finished that bag within thirty six hours. And part of that journey was one evening, ⁓ Nick was already asleep. And I sat in bed next to him and silently ate three hostess donuts quietly. Yeah, I really like the idea of the slow bite. Kate just so slowly compressing the donut about And I was like, ⁓ you little fatty, I love you. Like I was being mean, but also really sweet to myself. Like, who cares? Like And Nick wouldn't have cared, but I was just embarrassed that I was and I was like, I don't want him to wake up next to me and I just have like a donut hanging out of my mouth. It's like twelve fifteen AM. And you're like, you he you see him shift and you're like Exactly. When I got done with the donuts, ⁓ I had some milk and I was like, I'm not I would I wouldn't be ashamed if he woke up me drinking milk. So I was I allowed myself to be a little bit more normal. Shugged it. You got a little some random your chin on your negative milk mustache. You're just burping. ⁓ and then so then also what I have down as a note is milk belch 'cause then you and milk belches are specific because they're milky. They're milky, creamy, creamy burr. That probably disgusts a lot of people that don't like milk, but I ⁓ love milk, so Yep. We're this is a pro dairy podcast, unashamedly. Well, I'm not that big on dairy. No, but as my friend, you have my back. You have my back. Like if I start a fight, you're getting in there and I'm starting to fight. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. I know you got strong bones. I know you can help me. That's right. So this past weekend Nick was at a baseball tournament. ⁓ and the only thing I want to mention about that is that he shared that one of the dads had a travel fan and he had brought sixteen batteries with him so that he would never it to me not over a concern amount of batteries. Because they're not like the double D. I don't know, just Did you say double D's? Or you know the D batteries. She did say that. Which was funny. They should have double D batteries. Yeah, they should. I love that you're in your brain, you register big batteries as double D's. I think they should coordinate batteries and bra sizes to be the same system of measurements. Double A's, yeah. ⁓ okay, so now I'm gonna go on my okay, one left. ⁓ Of two more things. I told you I was gonna wait to tell you what I was doing tonight. And in an impulsive decision, I my daughter is out of town and I've been trying to keep busy so that I ⁓ don't feel so bad about it. 'Cause I miss her, guys. Anyway. So I impulsively bought tickets to a concert. And that concert is the Dave Matthews band. DMB. Okay. Let's go into a concert. What a week. And I started I tried so yesterday I s tried to listen to Dave Matthews band's most recent albums, and I couldn't. Wasn't slapping. Yeah, wasn't slapping the way you were hoping for. It's okay. He's gonna do that. Right. I'm ⁓ who play oldies. He plays for they play for two and a half hours. So it'll be fine. ⁓ that's amazing. Yeah. And by and ⁓ my dear friend Robin is going with me, and she and I have known each other since we were 19, and we were both very into the Dave Matthews ban in the year 2000, 2001, 2002. Like Yep. As all red-blooded women were. Yep. Okay. Now this is serious, and this is the last thing I want to talk about. So this is our this is our first podcast in July. Which will be coming out before the fourth of July. Cause this is gonna come out on July 2nd. And so as the American delegate of the North American Friends Movie Club, I would like to speak very briefly about my beloved country. And it just so happens, and I've talked about this before, that my dad has gotten into his genealogy. And there we have proof that our people came over on the Mayflower, which sounds very fancy until you learn that about three to seven million Americans can say that because of how that works. Like from 110 people now, three to seven million. So I but I am one of those three to seven million. And I think that gives me more receipts. For having opinions about how this country should be run and thoughts about it being around for 250 years. And I also want to mention that my ancestor, Robert Bredeen, who is my name right here, he was a Minuteman from a Minuteman from Massachusetts in the Revolutionary War. And I want Us as Americans. So, anyone who's listening, America is an ideal. It was started because of the idea of liberty, which is freedom of the individual. And even though it bad things were done in the name of manifest destiny and colonialism, like this whole country is built on colonialism. But it's all but at the same time, it's also built on the idea of personal liberty. And I used to feel very strongly I used to identify very strongly as a patriot before MAGA came roll around. And now I have not felt comfortable referring to myself as a patriot because of that it's been taken over by fascists who are actually not patriots because they don't believe in personal liberty. They believe in liberty for a very minimal amount of time tyranny. Let's just be they love tyranny. They love tyranny. They love it. Thank you. So I just want us all to take a moment, and if you are someone who has been hurt by the tyrannical fascist regime of Christian nationalism and fascist nationalistic politics, now is the time to rededicate ourselves to the ideals of liberty and hope. Because America is built on hope, and that's why this Trump administration will not flourish. And we're already seeing the beginnings of that. His power is tyrannical, but it is being reined in, even though he's done terrible things. Like it will end one day. And may it may we not give up hope for our country and the dream of America, which is that all men are created equal under the law. And we can fight for our liberty. And so don't give up hope on this July fourth, fellow Americans. Celebrate our country and the things that we were founded for. Thank you. Can I What a speech. What a speech. Nate, you're gonna have to play some old timey flute and drums behind her. Do you know what you wanna know something funny, Britt? Yep. Kate has one at one other point in the history of our show gone on a patriotic rant and I made the music for that Patriotic rant. I already got that shit locked in the chamber, ready to go. Copy and paste. I also wanna mention, and I will talk No, I'll talk about it when we get into the movie. So that is what has happened. That's what happened. That's what happened. That's what happened. ⁓ well said Kate, I you use a lot of fancy college words. ⁓ some I got, some I didn't. You paid good money for me to know what those words mean. That's right. Yep. And you played with you b all that like going for all those years. ⁓ I don't have anything patriotic to well, I do. I'm really enjoying the Canada World Cup run. ⁓ I'm I'm a big World Cup guy. I love the World Cup and I always make fun of the World Cup when it starts because I think it's silly, but then I watch one game and that's it. I'm hooked. And this year I've been putting some money down. I'm basically printing money over here. Okay. I'm up eight and a half units since I started betting on the World Cup last week. ⁓ I don't know what that means, but that sounds cool. It sounds like when you pay to get food in Star Wars. I know. It feels like it's the terminator. Unit is how much money you do on a a bet. So if you bet ten dollars on every bet you do, your unit is ten. ⁓ why don't they just call it dollars? You don't you don't ask a man his salary, you don't ask a man his unit. You don't things in life you just don't ask a man. You don't ask him if Is this all over Canada? No, it's all over the world, baby. No, because Nick And his buddies gamble all the time and they use the word money in dollars. Well let's you got maybe you're about to ask him later and get shocked when you're like Yeah. When you're like, Nick, what's your unit? And he's like twelve dollars. You're like Nick definitely knows what a unit is. He's got a unit. My boy Nick. No one gets as good press on this show than Nick. Nick, we are basically Nick's PR team on this show. Nick and Milk get so much play on this show. Big Dairy and Nick should be ⁓ paying us as sponsors. Reading. Yeah. Reading. Reading and the Bible has been it's been you've been kind of a a bit of an apostle lately, if you think about it. Yeah, so We don't unit shame and you never ask a man his unit. If he wants to bet a dollar, that's his unit. That's you gotta respect it. Anyway, I'm up eight and a half units. That's unheard of. You're up eight and a half? Yeah. ⁓ Ew. See? She's so proud of herself. I know. She the face she made and the lean she did when she said that. That was really she was just like put her chin out like a boxer, like, ⁓ yeah, eight and a half. ⁓ Yeah, that's unheard of. I'm basically print of money. It's ridiculous. Big time heater. I just me and Nolan from Spanish Angels just threw a Canada bet in. We bet on Canada to win against Switzerland and the Blue Jays to win tonight. That's a Canada bet. We'll let you know how it goes. Are they playing in Yep. Canada's playing in eighteen minutes in Canada. In Vancouver? Yeah, in Vancouver. ⁓ highly enjoying the World Cup. Great. Love the care love the characters from World Cup, the DR Dominican Republic of Congo, their guy that stands up for the whole match, emotionless as a statue of this great leader or spiritual leader or somebody they had in Congo as a tribute to him. Doesn't move the whole match, just stays like that. That's cool. That's intense. Yeah, it's really cool. Look him up. ⁓ I he's really cool. I like him. There's a the we have ⁓ a witch doctor. From Ghana that's putting curses on people that they're playing. Love that. Love that. Any kind of black magic, love that. What's Canada doing in that realm? Where where are you guys at with the magic and the We're just shocked that we're doing well. We're we're playing with house money at this point. We can Yeah. Are you guys not good at soccer? No. Okay. We are we're getting better. I thought we were bad too, but we've been winning. It's hard to be good at soccer when it's snow. All time snow. Never no green all snow. No green all snow. that sounds like an Al Green album for some reason. Peakin Green. Yeah, I'm I'll tell you who's peacing green. It's me up eight and a half units. That's right. ⁓ so pivoting from that, I hope I'll win my Canada bet today. ⁓ I had a ⁓ a boys' weekend this past weekend with Jeremy. We ⁓ him and I, he had a refing gig four hours away. I drove up and ⁓ Where's four hours away? What's Truro, Truro. And for people who are listening for the first time, what was he referring? He was referring independent wrestling, new breed wrestling. And I wanna give a shout out to one of the wrestlers up there. ⁓ his name is Sydney Sweetie. ⁓ my gosh. Sidney Sweetie. Sidney Sweetie. His name is Sid, but he goes by Sidney Sweetie. And he plays a very, very boisterous feminine character. Love it. He's in great shape. is it effeminate? Yeah. Yes. He works the crowd. He comes out in like this sheer black robe. It's a quintessential robe, like shawl he wears. And he wears these. Black shorts and he walks the crowd with these like chunky four or five inch platform heels. And he tell he tells the crowd, he's like, ⁓ you're I know you're obsessed with me. He carries a one of those old timey perfume spray bottles with the bulb and sprays it. ⁓ yeah. I'm not a fan. I'm a huge Sydney Sweetie fan already. I it was so nice to see a wrestler be a wrestler. character wise and do stuff and he was he was very good in the ring. He he did a monkey flip and but he actually acted like a monkey while he did it. That was great. ⁓ he he came into the ring Jeremy was reffing. He came in and got like right in Jeremy's face and did like started doing spins, like spinning very like theatrically and he did it. Two seconds is funny. Five seconds is funny. Eight seconds is too long. He did it for about maybe twenty seconds and it was hilarious. Yeah, it gets back to being right. He kept on yelling. I know you love my spins, Jeremy. I know you love my spins. And you got Jeremy to you got Jeremy to break. And so I just want to sh give a shout out to him. He's one of my new favorite wrestlers, Sidney Sweetie. Very funny, very good, very talented. ⁓ so yeah, boys weekend, it was great. Stayed in a hotel. I call on the way up for an early check in. ⁓ the check-in was a three. I called for a one PM check-in. I never checked into the hotel until one AM. So I'm glad I called for the early check in. Good thing you were out good thing you got on that. Yeah. ⁓ yeah, I I just I hate driving. Can't stand it. That's why I had such I just hate driving. I I don't have access to my routine and I hate it. I'm very routine based. And if I'm stuck in somewhere where I'm known to be stuck doing something for five hours, I can't stand it. great drive though. Very, very great, very great drive. I listen to old music. May Jeremy do spit takes twice. That's pretty good. That's good. Most teens, they're pretty like they they fold their arms. Yeah. Yeah. No, I told him I was telling him stories about back in the day, and he he did two spit takes, which is unheard of nowadays. also some big news on the home front. You're looking at the owner of ⁓ a Tinco ⁓ hammerhead, wet, dry. Floor vacuum. Okay, wet dry back. I would love a wet dry back. So you just sit on its little stand in the corner. You take it off when you're ready. You take the base off, you put some water and the Tinco or the Tinco cleaning solution in there. You cook it back up. So it vacuums and mops at the same time. Basically cut my cleaning routine in half. Mm-hmm. Love this for you. What are you gonna do with your extra time? Troubleshoot a microphone, apparently. Yeah. Fair. You got you got shit to do. Did you buy that for yourself or was that a gift? No. Melissa says, What do you think of this thing? She's like, I've I I think you would enjoy it because you would just cut your your time in half. And I and I said, Okay, get it. We'll see how it works. Do you mop your floor every day? Every day. He's the overkill killer. Brent runs a tight ship. He wrote a tight ship. It's if I was on the ship, they wouldn't even call it the poop deck because they've there would you wouldn't be there'd be no traces of fecal matter anywhere. Yeah. Do you really want need to do it that frequently, or you just have gotten into some OCD routine where you have to OCD routine where I feel like I have to earn my relaxation through work. But also I'm gonna So no wonder you have a chronic foot pain. Problem. No, don't blame him. Don't blame him. Yeah, no, don't think to blame. It's not his fault. It never developed until after the chronic foot injury because I stopped working. Right. Yeah, he had to exactly. So now I have to so now I have to earn my keep, so to say. You're with a psychotherapist. If you set it up there, she doesn't know the mind. She doesn't know the mind. Fucking read you, Brent. She's the Vlad Guerrero of this podcast. And if you throw her a fastball down the middle, she's about to go placata. Listen, how did we go from me buying something? Hold on. You're right. And I want to ask if it's battery powered. Do you have to plug it in every day? It sits on it has a charger stand. And is that plugged in? Yeah. Okay. I like no cord though. That's good. I like that. ⁓ and it has ⁓ LFT. ⁓ which is lay flat technology. you literally you just lay it flat and it goes propell you it just goes underneath your bed. Wow. Yeah LFT and it has ASD which is automatic ⁓ stain detection. So there's on the display hub that I call it, ⁓ there's a a a blue bar. And so if you're going over something that's that's very clean, the bar is blue. As soon as you start hitting duster Brine, the bar changes to br like red. And the more red in the bar, the more dirty it is. Yeah. And that's how you know when it's blue, you're clean. It's a video game. Yep. It's a it's a hub. I have a ASD hub, I call it the automatic stain detection hub. And the LFT, which is laid flat technology, so I can get underneath things. And not only does it have that, ⁓ 121 degrees of swivel, I'm talking. One twenty one? I would have thought it topped out at eighty. Nope. I'm cutting corners. I'm taking hairpin cuts around chairs. It's I most of the text me yesterday. She goes, How what is it? I said I said everything I just said there. ASD, LFT. I got 121 degrees that I'm working with. I got the the bar telling me when it's clean. Not only that, I put it back on its pad, press one button, and it self-cleans. Well. What a piece of technology. I want to thank the fine people at Tyne Co or Tinko as we call it. ⁓ I probably said the word Tinko over a hundred and seventy five times in the last forty eight hours. I wanna tell I wanna give a shout out to them for making a fine, fine product. Is it from Canadian Tire? Yeah, that's where we got us on sale the entire. I've been hearing about menards, menards here in America and I need to go there. Cause apparently you can buy it's like a Walmart, but like more It's like a Canadian tire. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Can you buy food there? No. That's you could buy like ⁓ really stale chips and candy can eat if you wanted to. So yeah, that's me. I'm I'm at the I'm at the the peak of vacuum technology and I'm glad to be there. How have you been feeling? How's your foot been? A f do you think it's gonna be sore later today because we made you walk everywhere? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's gonna be sore. That's alright though. I'm used to that. ⁓ it's it's it is what it is. It's ever since I switched, I went off one pain med, I found I'm smarter. Go on. Just brain fog lifted. Yeah, plus brain fog cleared the fog. And sharper. That's give that's making me believe in the theories that we were getting pumped full of all these pills to slow us down into zombies and not fight back. Mm-hmm. Interesting. Yeah. So Well, I don't want you to be dumb and slow like a zombie. ⁓ Don't worry there. Not happening. Still on the lemon ginger shots. No, I'm actually a little scared what'll happen now that you the brain fog's been listed and you got all this extra power. Like I'm a little scared. Extra I love the extra time. I have so much extra time now due to the Tynko ⁓ hammerhead. Yeah. No brain fog, extra time due to the 120 degrees of swivel. You got a lot of time for us. You got a lot of time for schemes. What why did they put that number? We pushed human technology. They went to Mr. Tynko and they're like, We got this thing to 110 degrees of swivel. And he said, Don't even fucking think about releasing it until you get to 120. Come back to me when you got 120. And they went to 121. It was like Abraham Lincoln looking for those thirteen votes. He's like, Don't even come at me. This the Tyne Co. is my ⁓ emancipation proclamation. That's right. So let's hear the weekly report, Nate. Let's do the weekly report. Week, week, week week week week week week week weekly report. Weekly report. It's been it's been a week. It's been a week over here. ⁓ It it ⁓ rained. So much. It was 100 millimeters of rain. Wow. 100 millimeters of rain. I don't know what that is in inches because I don't I don't work in inches anymore, as we discussed last week. I think that's either 10. No, right there I lost all confidence. Yeah. One hundred millimeters to inches. Three point nine inches. Yeah. It's four inches of rain. That's too much. That's a lot of rain. But in as with the scientific brain like myself, notice I how I I gave the exact measurement three point nine seven three. K said almost four. Almost four gets you off course in orbit and dead. Challenger situation. Yeah. It's child. Yeah, the O-rings are almost good enough to handle re-entry. You're making some good points, Bryn. I'm so sorry. ⁓ it rained so much that my house flooded and my garage leaked from the roof. I had it coming, I it was coming at me from both directions, bro. I'm I was I was soggy from the top to the bottom. And that was just that's led to a week of tasks. Tasks that needed to be Completed ⁓ distress as well as ⁓ frustration. I think I was a little bit mad at global warming. I'm like, these motherfuckers, my house is flooding because of global warming. I think ⁓ I was mad at the farmers for praying for rain. I said, Well, you got what you were fucking praying for. I hope you're happy. My house is gonna fall down. ⁓ but I don't like to stay in that dark. Mental place. So I started doing a new bit and I would just like to try it out on you guys. I would just like to try it out on you guys. So ⁓ I started as it was raining, every day it was raining, I was say something to myself like, Where am I living? London, England, famously rainy, or I'd say, Where am I living? Seattle, Washington on the coast, the west coast of America, famously rainy. And then when it got really bad, I said to myself, Where am I living? Under the sea? Under the ocean? That's really wet. Yep. That's really wet. That's good. ⁓ maybe. Gate, you can be on my writing staff for this new bit. May I suggest saying monsoon season at some point? It said, what time of year is it? Monsoon season? See. So Yeah, that's a that's a it's a healthy way of go and think about it. You gotta cope. Here's the thing. Everything is always terrible. There will be suffering forever. We have to do things to have some levity in life. Shit. Gotta have levity. You gotta get through it. That's two. ⁓ so I've done my three Ds this week. I did Drinking the dairy, lifting to weights, and doing the dancing. I did not read any Dostoevsky this week because I don't need to go to nineteenth century Russia. I'm in a nineteenth century Russia of the soul. That's that's where I'm existing right now. So no Dostoevsky this week. I will continue reading next week when I don't have ⁓ carpets, when I don't have soggy carpets to drag. There's nothing heavier than a soggy carpet. ⁓ and I got a big one. I had to do it at three AM. I did I had to go up the stairs alone, three AM, folded soggy carpets, g sogginess against my stomach. ⁓ Like a dead like carrying a dead body. It was so heavy. Yeah, and it was exactly what I would have been doing if I had a dead body. So I like when I carried it out of the house, I made a real big scene of like laying it out on the deck so that my neighbors didn't think there was a dead body inside of it. I was like, I'm I'm rolling this out. It's empty. Just in case home. ⁓ girl. It's not a dead woman. but I did I did invent one new dance move this week that has truly lifted my spirits back to 100%, maybe even 105% is so good. And it's called the Giant Restaurant Pepper Shaker. So you go like this. And this the way to really do the giant restaurant pepper shaker is like when the the song is about to hit its maximum crescendo and the drums are about to kick in. So you do it slow. You're doing slow and you pretend you're saying like enough. Is that enough? Is that enough? And they're saying no more and then when the beat hits you go You add that pepper. You fucking put as much pepper as a human being could crack onto somebody's ⁓ fettuccine alfredo. ⁓ I can just pick you at a a wedding reception doing that and just scream at people, say when. Say when that enough? No? That's awesome. That's awesome. And ⁓ that's the weekly report. speaking of crescendos, ⁓ we had a movie this week that had the ending was quite the crescendo, ⁓ multiple crescendos. ⁓ And that movie is start of a new month, which is we did adult eyes. Now we're doing adult mouths, which is Nate's month. And that means that we're watching movies that well, the action takes a back seat and the mouth takes a front seat. A lot of more dialogue ⁓ during these movies, less boom boom, more ⁓ hello, hello. That's right. That's yeah. ⁓ so we're we're we're focused on movies. Better than that. Thank you. so we watched a a banger to start the month. ⁓ Kate. Nate, tell us people what we watched, and then Kate tell us what the movie was about. I chose one of Steven Spielberg's greatest films, one of our greatest filmmakers, greatest film ones. I chose Lincoln in the year 2012, I believe. And I would love it if Kate would tell us what happens in the film Lincoln. I'll do my best. So the film Lincoln is ⁓ kind of the the history of the last three months of Lincoln's life. And during that time, he was able to pass the Thirteenth Amendment through the House of Representatives that ⁓ abolished slavery. we also see how the political machine worked at ⁓ churning up the votes. And it was political. It wasn't because we have all of these very proud, you know, dignified men. It was they got a lot of the votes for the 13th Amendment through promising jobs, and then eventually just through giving them money. We also see his relationship with his wife, Mary, and the the toll that that level of war took on Him and her and k her anger at him for allowing his son Robert to join the army. I think it's just thank you, Nate, so much for bringing this into our lives at this time for us Americans, because it's the best of us. It's the it's a true story that shows that good things can happen. So thank you. That's Lincoln. He killed it. Yep. Much like John Will Sbooth. You killed it. You just assassinated that intro. Yep. So why don't we talk about all our favorite parts? I'd love to. I found it's I think it's ⁓ a testament to the actors and the director and anybody involved in the movie that when you're watching a movie and it's a well documented historical outcome, everybody knows what happens, but it's still tense. Like the last the half hour of that movie was super tense and you're like, Well my god, is this gonna pass? But we all know it does and I was like, ⁓ I was a whole was I was on my bed watching this movie, I was like, Wow, I don't really need the side of this bed to sit 'cause I'm on the edge of it and ⁓ yeah, I worked that one on it. And ⁓ I but I knew what's gonna happen, but still I think it's a testament, so that's good. I don't even know where to start. I like it so much. Like and and watching it, it's probably the fourth or fifth time that I've watched this movie. I think I liked it the most this time that I've ever liked it, where it's just like every part of it is perfect. The way it's shot, the way it's edited, the way the story is told, and how they focus on this like little part. Because it was originally they had talked about making it a whole biography of Lincoln's life, which would not be nearly as good a movie. It'd just be like it'd be kind of ch corny, I think, to s to watch him be like a young lawyer and he's chopping the wood and blah blah blah blah. It's like this is it's so much more interesting to start with him as like he's already finished his first term, he's exhausted, the war is insane, he's falling apart, he's Ricety and it's just genius. It's a genius movie. I like the idea where you said it was just a specific condensed time period. It didn't go all over the years because I would lose interest. This was just a main like last three months. Let's concentrate on that and tell the story. It reminds me of how I feel when I watch The Pit and its competency porn. So it's like very well thought out, critical thinking. arguments that are spelled out like this is I love this book. I I've read ⁓ Team of Rivals twice and this watching this movie, I now I'm going to read it a third time when I'm on vacation because I like it so much. Because it's like this is why I like politics. Like good things can happen. Like like people can do things for good without like selfish, I don't know. Like it just feels good. Like it's nice to know that ⁓ for every Trump there's a Lincoln. You know what I mean? For every there's a balance in the world. And I think it's easy to forget that when we're living in a time where ⁓ it seems like the evil is winning. I we're a hundred and sixty episodes in, and I had no idea that you were Doris Kern's Goodwin pilled, Kate. Because I am Doris Kern. Kern's Goodwin pilled as well. I gotta be honest with you, Kate. We got that in common. It's such a good book. I don't know if I've read anything else she's written though. ⁓ just and watch any interview. She's in the ⁓ so many Ken Barnes documentaries. She's a queen. She's a queen of American history. ⁓ just a legend. ⁓ it it kind of stumbled out the gate for me when the scene he was talking to Molly or Mary, what's her name? Molly. Mary Douglas or Molly. He that was her nickname. Okay. ⁓ so we call he's talking to Molly about the party that they're having at the house, and he said, Don't spend too much on the flub dubs. And I'm like, Okay, this is gonna be stupid. Whoever wrote this movie is taking liberties, how do we know that Abraham Lincoln is saying things like flub dubs? So I will I said, you know what, I'm gonna Google it. I Googled it. Apparently, flub dubs is what the most popular term in the eighteen sixties to nineteen hundreds. ⁓ yeah. I bet I bet there's a wax recording of Abraham Lincoln just roasts and motherfuckers calling him flub dubs lay a buzz. I did ⁓ well I thought it did a little more looking into it. Yeah, flub dubs means like extravagant things that aren't really, you know, shiny things that aren't really important and all that. So he didn't want her to spend too much on the flub dubs. So just a nice simple parody. But I like that she defended what she was doing. She was like we're da da. She defends herself. She doesn't let him walk all over her. That's right. Married Mary Todd's got a spine of steel. I also noticed that when I see a character not a main character, but a character from a T V show or you really like pop up in a movie, it's distracting because you only associate them with that role. And then when I saw Gail from Breaking Bad in this movie, I was like, What's Gail doing there? It really it really screwed me up. Yeah, it's a curly headed guy. He was in break if you know Breaking Bad, you'd do Is he in billions? Maybe. I don't know. Yeah, I think of him as billions guy too. No, he's He kills it in this movie. Yeah. Everybody does though. Like literally every single part perfect. From like like the lady in that scene where the guy with the toll booth comes to the Comes to talk to Lincoln about getting the toll booth back, and the lady does most of the talking for him. She is like such a heavyweight actress. She's so incredible. And she just nails that every little 45-second part is with like an incredible actor. It's so good. That's what you get when you're Steven Spielberg. You can get the You can just ask anybody. And it this it just keeps happening over the whole movie where you're like, ⁓ now here's Lee Pace. Like, ⁓ now here's James Spade or like The opening scene is Coleman Domingo. The opening scene is Coleman Domingo as the black soldier. Yeah. Like, ⁓ my God. Adam Driver just ⁓ Adam Driver's here taking telegrams. Like well, I'm not too impressed because it's we had the same thing with Dick Tracy. No, this is way better than Dick Tracy. There's more good guys in this than Dick Tracy. But Dick Tracy had a lot of good guys. But Not only does this have more good guys, but they all get to do a piece of business. Like James Spader gets to smash that crab when he's talking and everybody like picks up their papers to cover their face from the crab juice spraying on them. Like what a good piece of business. Well, James Spader shines in this movie. I think Slater from ⁓ Letterkinning Days Confuse. No, Slater from Days Confuse said it best ⁓ for my point here is it's it's all about quant quality, not quantity. ⁓ I think this is both. This is you get both quality and quantity. It's one of the rare occasions where you get ⁓ both. Here's my problem. A lot of simpcock behavior from Mr. Lincoln. No. He what is he supposed to do? What's he supposed to do? They've been through tragedies. They've been through so many tragedies tragedies. Their son their son died at a party. He's rickety. He's always wrapped up in his shawl because he's cold. He's hunched over, he's always disguising himself. he everything's falling to shit. There's six hundred thousand people are dying. There's a big battle going on for a key part in the war and he's sitting there drinking coffee telling a story about George Washington in in in a water closet. So I was the king. Force laughter. That's that's you know, it's he reminded me a lot of dog moves. Yeah, he's the biggest dog. That's the biggest dog. But when George W. Bush did it, we all made fun of him. Like when he was talking about George W. Bush had had thrown ⁓ had a fastball like Abraham Lincoln, I'd be a lot more into George W. Bush. He remember the clip of George W. Bush saying talking about the war and then said watching me hit this drive? That's a fastball. No, Lincoln would have been like told a twenty minute Anecdote that included biblical references, and then he would have launched a 300 yard drive. That's the big dog, the biggest dog that ever lived. You're also s stating that he's a cuck because he wore warm clothes in the winter. Yeah, he's saying that. And also, this poor man is six foot five or six foot four. He's like, they didn't have food for those taller people back then. ⁓ So he's not getting no such thing as tall people food. Because you know, he's such a good leader, such an empathetic leader. He's not taking extra rations. He's not at a pad of source where he can only eat the high tree leaves on the tree. That's what Kate's making points. Kate's making points right now. We don't have food for tall people. And you're getting mad at him for drinking tea where when you just claimed that That is what has helped you become strong and smart. A lot of comparisons between me and Lincoln here. I'm not comparing myself to Lincoln. I don't want to be involved in any of this. I'm just saying. You both were talking about tea and you brought up tea. Mm-hmm. He was I think he was drinking coffee on the at the I think coffee has got more of a set on it than tea. Yes. Let me drink take a little sip. Coffee coffee has bigger bottles than tea, I like it. Everyone knows that everybody knows that. It has more caffeine. Yeah, everybody knows that. Coffee's a boy, tea's a girl. Yeah, yeah. And then milk is the most womanly thing you can drink on the planet. Yeah. Because it comes from it comes from the breast. The breast. That's why ⁓ more men need to drink milk. Is for them to be a fully embodied human. Lincoln needed more milk. ⁓ Lincoln needed way more milk. If Lincoln drank milk, he'd be like he'd be basically our Bjorn Bjornsen or whoever that gigantic strong man is. You know What US president drank a lot of milk is Teddy Roosevelt and Gr General Grant. Yeah, he was a man. Those guys were drinking milk. Yeah. Shout out to the national parks. If Lincoln was on the milk, there would have been the war. Civil war would have lasted maybe eight months. Because he would have personally went ran through fucking Savannah, Georgia like a mech. And it would have been called The the Fourth Amendment instead of the 13th Amendment because it would have got done way quicker. It just gets on the milk. Isn't it crazy that people are so proud of their southern heritage that of racism? I find it so abhorrent and like I don't understand it because I don't come from it. So to me, it's like gross. Do you know what I was thinking about while watching this movie? Is I'm like, I think it makes a lot of sense if you see it. As the humiliation that it was for the South. Like it was they they like they shot their shot and they got rejected. They got posterized. The block was so hard forever. Everybody knows. South babies cannot fight war, cannot hold the harbor, cannot they they barely got they got like six buttons on their uniform compared to the 20 buttons on the un the union uniforms. Like they just We took out their railroads and they never had a fucking chance. They couldn't do shit and they got they're so humiliated by it that now they just have to triple down to save any amount of like pride or anything like that. It's like what happened to JK Rowling. She's basically the South. It's like once you once you get humiliated, you just keep doubling, tripling, quadrupling down until you're flying a Confederate flag. ⁓ my god, the takes on this episode are just so good. So good. Comparison so far. Was a banger. Tea and coffee comparison. And then JK Rowling is the South. This is you're getting it all this episode. ⁓ yeah, but Simcock behavior with the shawl. You don't want to see your president wearing a shawl. Actually, you do. I feel like shawl is a big dog move because only the most masculine, ⁓ confident man would put a shawl on. You you know who's wearing a shawl? Women, effeminate gay men. And really hardcore older ⁓ dudes, like confident old men. And Lincolns. I'm sorry, I'm just really defending Lincoln. I can't can't abide it. We're not gonna do much, we're not gonna allow Lincoln Slander this close to July fourth on the 250th anniversary of the Ukraine Union. Can't I can't. I'm staying hopeful, guys. We're staying positive. We need a devil's advocate. We can't be glazing Lincoln for an hour. I gotta come shoot back with my with my Observances. Yeah. ⁓ you're the Confederacy of this podcast. You're the racist of the podcast. No. No. That's not true. It's funny that the the the South and the gun people are all like, Yeah, this guns f you know, it's written in the Constitution and all and this is the time period the referencing. And ⁓ the very funny scene where Bill Beau ⁓ approaches the man with documents to get him to switch his vote and the guy takes out the gun. Bilbo has time to push the gun up, run away, come back, grab his documents, kick dirt at him three times, then run away again before the guy can reload. Yeah. And that's the guns that they're talking about that you should be allowed to have, not a semi-automatic rifle. Absolutely. That's very funny. Even him taking it out of his jacket, it took so much effort for him to haul that gigantic piece of lumber out of his coat. That James Fader was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hey, ⁓ that was so funny. I'll totally get on board with everybody but should be allowed to have guns if that's the guns that we're allowed to have. If you have to load if you have to carry a little satchel of gunpowder around and a in another stick that stuffs the powder down. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Then fine. That's You could have all the guns you want. You Pitcher to set it off with those guns, we wouldn't have much of a movie. Set it off. And no more warheads. We're only we're going back to cannonballs. So you get to drop cannonballs. Yeah, you can do cannonballs and muskets. So yeah, that's our we'll we'll that's called compromise. So yeah, everybody's allowed to have a gun, but here's the gun that you get. Yeah. I'm into it. ⁓ I I did I only have two things left to say. I did enjoy the fight where he finally showed some some presidential spirit and backbone. To Molly talking about ⁓ she was he's trying to convince her to let Robert join the war and she's fighting back. And she looked so much like an old Mia Goth in that scene with her no eyebrows and her hair pulled back. It was like watching Mia Goth. Hmm. Did you like that? I don't think anyone's ever compared Mia Goth to Sally Field and I like it. 'Cause I can see it. I th I'm I'm like, he's not wrong. No one compared a JK JK Rowling to the the South. The Confederacy, yeah. The good old boys. ⁓ and the other thing is I really enjoyed the pit of legs. The what? The what? The pit of legs, where Abe took Robert to the hospital and the wheelbarrel can bet. Yep. terrible wheelbarrow technology. Front wheel, way too skinny. You're not you're tipping over all the time on that thing. ⁓ it's funny that my vacuum has more angles of movement than that wheelbarrow. Yeah, and that was an army it was an army cart. So that's the maximum technology that they had available at the time. I like as a person that would transport amputated legs from a fridge to a morgue, I know the way legs move and they did a good job with the bouncing of the legs. Great leg work. There that's gonna be reflected in the art direction score. How do legs move when they're not attached to us? ⁓ they make that if they they bounce like that. They have little bounce because you still got the muscle and stuff in there. Yeah. And yeah, they're not thumping their bounce. Are these from like diabetic people? Why are you moving amputated legs? Yeah, if you c if you get something amputated, anything that comes out of you in surgery or amputation or like anything that it's removed from your body gets sent to a pathology lab. And in that lab they ⁓ do a a process where they inject it and stain it and stuff and then it's red on ⁓ microscope slides for cancer. ⁓ but then after so long you have to get rid of the stuff. And then so we had a leg freezer. It was just a a freezer full of legs. How many were at one time I I think I had three legs in there. And I would take one down to the morgue and you'd be cared go out to the hallway, say hi to people and they didn't know that you had a leg on you. It's a little secret you have. Did you ever have the urge to take any body parts home? no. I didn't think so. I was just asking. I don't think I I don't think I would either. I wouldn't either. I was just curious. We have to after six months of holding them, we'd have to dump them into cheesecloth and then throw them into a big garbage bag. And you see a lot of you see breasts, livers, hearts, kidneys, products of conception. It was it was it's kinda morbid of conception. Little babies. No, we knew I knew what it meant, but that is the So it's it's kinda morbid and gross to think that was all your that that's like you're eating a dip and you hit a certain layer there. Like that was spicy. ⁓ I got a polapeno on that one. Yeah. And then sometimes it's mostly it delicious like a blood clot, but sometimes it's little formed. Yeah, got it. Sorry. Yep. Continue. Mia Goth. She looked a lot like Mia Goth. I Sally Field is incredible in this film. She's like, there's so many great actors, and she comes in there and she's just like, Heymaker, heymaker, haymaker. That scene when she's like they all come to the White House, like Tommy Lee Jones and his crew, and she's just reading them all the filth. She's like, ⁓ so interesting of you to show up at my house smiling when But mere months ago you were being a total dickheads to me. Exactly. She doesn't let anybody get away with anything. And he's like, You are so sad. You need to stop being sad. She was like, Everyone's dying. And she's like, Just because you're not having a normal human response, they will look to me and they will know what this war has done. Like, hell yeah, fucking marry Todd Lincoln. I also liked ⁓ you mentioned Tommy Lee Jones, who just is always a delight to see in any movie. Yeah. And he had a quote in here, and I'm hoping that it's real, ⁓ but he ⁓ called they were debating the 13th Amendment, and he called one of the Democratic guys a vile and borish he said, You vile and boorish man. And I was like, That is what Trump is. Like, yes. It just is like we need to use better words. Like, that's such good language. Tommy Lee Jones in this movie, we haven't heard insults like this since the Grinch song. This is he dropped like eight different ones. I literally took screenshots to do a funny tweet. Because there's one where he's calling like he's saying a mellifulous gas and like oxygen breathers can't breathe around this guy. Like He starts off every argument with a terrible burn. He just roasts the shit out of everybody. He says he calls one guy, he says, You're so flat and low that you couldn't even be crushed by a man's foot. Okay, Tommy Lee Jones. All right, Thaddeus Stevens. And when they tried to get him, they tried to like double trick him by being like, Do you believe that all men are equal under the law? Or do you think we're all equal? In everything and he's like, how could I believe that all men are equal when we I have a disgusting piece of shit like you around? How can I hold that all men are created equal when here before me stands stinking the moral carcass of the gentleman from Ohio? Proof that some men are inferior. Endowed by their maker with dim wits, impermeable to reason, with cold, pallid slime in their veins instead of hot red blood. You are more reptile than man, George. So low and flat that the foot of man is incapable of crushing you. ⁓ dare you! I think a guy literally runs up and shakes his hand when everyone's like, ⁓ and it got him. Yeah, you got him. So then you see later that he takes the the role of the amendment passing and he says, Can I have it for the night? And he cre and he's like, ⁓ it'll be creased. And he takes it home to his woman who happens to be his black housekeeper. Very romantic. And I hope that that's real because that is so romantic. He was basically like, I can't do much for you, but here you go, baby. And I'll be like, ⁓ Tom Elie. That is Stevens. I think it's one of the best roles he's ever had. Because he almost never gets to play like a good person. ⁓ and his wig was just black as heck. He was great. Do we have a quiz? I have a quiz. Would you guys like to do the what did I call this? The the Would you guys like to do the Abraham Link quiz? Yes, I like that. Question number one. Lincoln meets with a couple from Jeff City to discuss a toll booth. They have a letter from a former president. Which president was it? William Henry Harrison, James Polk, John Quincy Adams, or James Buchanan. Who's first? Kate. Buchanan. It's my man Quincy Adams. Brent is correct. It was JQA, John Quincy Adams. Brent's on the bar. ⁓ that couple's congressman is Bean Paul Burton. What's Beanpole's first name? Joseph, Josiah, Jeremiah, or Jebediah? I'm gonna say Jebediah. I do too. I do too. It was in fact Josiah. I tricked you with the Bible. I tricked you both with the Bible. That damn Bible gets me again. I typed in Bible names J and I got a list of different names. Should have just texted me, but. ⁓ was one of them Job? One of them on the list was Job, but that's right. Why I didn't deserve a stray on that one. Lincoln didn't deserve his either, Brent. That's just the theme of the week. ⁓ Question number three. Lincoln tells a story about an 82-year-old woman who killed her husband when he was choking her. What was the woman's name? Melissa Cummings, Melissa Goings, Melissa Leavings, or Melissa Stayings? Fuck. Leavings? It has to be Cummings. It was of course Melissa Goings. Nate's on the board again. I tricked you. ⁓ my god. I tricked you with different words. Damn. President Lincoln tells a story about George Washington's portrait being hung in the water closet. Who is the man who gets off a zinger on the British? Daniel Morgan, Samuel Adams, John Jay, or Ethan Allen? I'm gonna go Ethan Allen. Me too. You're both correct, it was Ethan Allen. Yay, I got one right. Yep. No, I got the first one right. I love that part of the movie because when Lincoln starts telling the story, his one cabinet member's like, No, you're about to tell another story. I can't I can't bear it. And he like leaves the room. It's so funny. See, that's what I was saying. Simcock behavior. President Lincoln speaks with a young engineer about axioms and common notions. Which mathematician came up with these principles? Pythagoras, Archimedes, Euclid, or Hippocrates? Euclid. ⁓ yeah, it's Euclid. You're both correct. It was Euclid's common axioms and notions and stuff like that. Okay, let's get a score update. Right now the score is Brent has three, Kate has two, Nate has two. We have two questions left. Okay. The final vote had eight abstentions and fifty six votes against. How many yes votes did the amendment receive? 116, 117, 118, or 119? 118. One sixteen. It was one nineteen. Me and Britt are tied. Three three. Kate has two. One question to go. Speaking of numbers, in the scene where Robert E. Lee surrenders, the Union soldiers are wearing uniforms with the most buttons I have ever seen. How many buttons, including the sleeve buttons, are on the Union jacket? Sixteen buttons, eighteen buttons, twenty buttons, or twenty-two buttons. Sixteen. No. Twenty. Twenty. Twenty-two buttons. Nate wins the quiz just like Lincoln. You said twenty buttons earlier in the episode and I thought you gave the answer away. Congratulations, Nate. We should have counted the buttons better. I'm gonna give you a compliment for your win. And that compliment is your patience. You are one of the most patient people I've ever met. In that you're you have a very ki you're naturally kind and patient spirit. N naturally kind and patient spirit. ⁓ my compliment is you are able to use the English language to your advantage and combine that with your level of humor, which is off the charts and that's what makes you one of the funniest people I know. That's a winner. Isn't this much better? Actually, Kate, you're right. This is a good prize. This is this is slightly better than hearing your name yelled at you in letters. Thank you. It was my idea. Yeah. Was it your I keep giving credit to because I was like, that's a stupid idea. You both laughed at me. You're the Lincoln of this podcast. You are, but actually you're also the racist. Let me get my shawl. The dog didn't like that. No. I give you both. ⁓ gold medals for your performance on that quiz. Would you like to give this movie some medals? Yes. My bronze is going to Tommy Lee Jones. Tommy Lee Jones, he was excellent, minus his blackwig, which I hated. ⁓ he was just so good ⁓ with his ⁓ just roasting people on the on the Senate floor, just fucking eviscerating them. ⁓ just a great actor. I'm gonna give my ⁓ bronze to Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln. She was acting her. Ass off. And the only reason why she's not getting my gold or silver is because I liked two other people more. ⁓ I'm going to completely agree with you. I'm gonna give my bronze to Sally Field. She's she's ⁓ killing it in every scene she's in. She is the best actor in the scene. She's the only reason she's not Getting the gold is because she wasn't in as much as the other two actors who I'm going to choose who were also so great. But she was just smashing everybody and teaching everybody a lesson on how to act good. Sally Field bronze medal. ⁓ yeah, my silver medal is going to Sally Field. ⁓ she's the only one that stood up to Tom Lee Jones as able to match him with verbiage and wit. ⁓ and I really enjoyed her Miyagats scene. Silver medal. Silver medal for me is my boy who just was turning it on Mr. James Spader. I he was made. Robert California was made for this role. And I I just want to watch it again just to watch him again. He's so fucking good in it. Yeah. He's incredible. ⁓ it's just there's so many good actors. Like I could literally justify a medal for almost every single performance, but yeah. He's great. I'm giving my silver to Tommy Lee Jones. I think it's his best role. Like it's my favorite Tommy Lee Jones performance. And I think he's like it's like this crazy combination of his like being mean and grumpy and angry and also like the best person. It's like this almost never happens. This is great. ⁓ silver medal. What a king. ⁓ that means gold. Gold's going out. It's going out to Daniel Day Lewis. He's gonna get gold no matter what. He gets gold for showing up. He's excellent. ⁓ he did yell at one point in this movie and it did sound a lot like ⁓ Bill from Gangs New York, which I liked. ⁓ automatic goal for him, always. Yeah, he gets my gold too. He's just like one of the best that's ever done it. I don't know. Like up there. Yeah. He's the boat. He's the boat. And it's like the boat. Best of all time. He's also, of course, gonna get my gold medal. There was one scene where they had him like from the side, and I'm like, he looks like fucking Lincoln. Like he it is Lincoln. It's so crazy. His gait his gait looked like Lincoln. And in a movie like this where you have at least twenty incredible actors and performers, like at least twenty. There's probably more. Jared Harris is in this movie. We didn't even mention it. He's just here. Walton Goggins in this movie. We didn't even mention him. He's just here. Everyone's so fucking good. He stands out above all of these people over here, just like he's the big daddy of acting. He's just ⁓ he's the king of acting right now. That's what they should ring rename the best actor Oscar to the big daddy of acting. Big daddy of acting. He's the big daddy of acting and Meryl Streep's the big mom of acting. That's that's how it works. Jeremy Strong is in this. Jeremy Strong's in this movie and he's great in it. But in one point, so it's the last scene and it's Lincoln giving his second inaugural address. So he's died, and this is just the end of the movie. And Jeremy Strong is just like looking at him like he's looking at like a beautiful puppy in the sky. Yeah. He also does some really good panting work when they have to run to get the letter from Lincoln. He's like tired. Tired acting. Great job by Jeremy Strong. Yeah. ⁓ I'd give him ⁓ fucking ten out of ten, ⁓ even though he didn't get a medal. Would you guys like to give this movie a rating? Yes, sir. The script for this movie. ⁓ like Kate said, based on the novel Team of Ribbles by Doris Kearns Goodwin. I'm fucking Goodwin Pilled. I would ride or die for Doris Kearns. That's a ten for me. It's so easy. It's the the Owns, the Tommy Lee Jones Grinch Owens. Come on. Yeah, this gets a ten. Obviously. Yeah. I mean it's it's like it's hard to write something that's actually happened and make it different and fun and interesting. And like the like you said about the the insults alone are are great. ⁓ ten. The art direction for this movie, the sets, the props, the costumes, the beard work, the the legs. The legs. Leg pit. Leg pit. I mean the costumes. ⁓ my god. It's a fucking Spielberg movie. He's got every the best artist in every department in Hollywood said yes to this movie and you can fucking tell. Yeah, it's a ten. Everything looks fucking amazing. The uniforms, the buttons. David Stray Stra Strahern, who we Strathorn? I don't know how to say his name, but I love him as an actor. He's got this smoking jacket on in one scene that's like one of the most like voluptuous smoking jackets I've ever seen in my life. It was insane. I would love to pull that off. And he's great in this movie. ⁓ the music for this movie it hits at every moment. It's I I felt so inspired. I felt so ⁓ patriotic. Felt I felt North American, you know. I was like, America is part of North America, and I'm a North American. I I get to claim all the goodness of this of this world at this moment and pretend ⁓ none of the badness exists. The music is perfect for me. It's a 10. I know that you could want something else, but like this would have been less serious if there had been more music to it almost, or it was emotional music, it was appropriate, it didn't take away from it. It gets a ten. One of the few movies that doesn't need ⁓ modern music set to it. ⁓ it's a very serious topic. The Thirteenth Amendment, and it needed some serious music. And it did have serious music, and I'm a sucker for a snare and a tinny flute. A titty flute? Tinny. Tinny, I know. Tinny. If you that I can't believe you're saying this. This is very exciting. I I take ⁓ the emancipation very seriously. So ten? Ten. ⁓ ten. Yeah. ⁓ the genre for this film. It's a bi it's an American biographical historical drama. It's it's a it's gotta be a biography of somebody. We got it. It's gotta be historical. They yeah. Can't get much more. It really happened. Yeah, gets a ten. Dramatic. It's it's true. We all knew what was gonna happen, like Brent said. He dies, he gets shot. I've still watched it four times and still when the votes are getting counted on, like, ooh, what's going on? It's close this time. It's close this time. The enslavement of an entire race of humans. You'd have to be one dumb motherfucker to give anything other than a 10 to that. They did it. He did it. Spielbergo, our king. And the theme this month is. Adult mouths. Adults, instead of using war and shooting and fists to solve their problems, they use their words, their conversations, their convincing, their logic, their great stories and anecdotes to charm. And their and their convictions, their morally aligned values and ethics. This is a tan. It's a ten. Well, it's gonna get a ten for me. ⁓ man, we did it. It's it's I mean they yeah, it's it's exactly what the category is. Everything he changed more with the mouth than a pen or a gun. Yep. Perfect movie. 50 out of 50. Perfect movie. I love Spielberg. I love Daniel Day Lewis. I love Abraham Lincoln. I love my friends Brent and Kate. What a great time. ⁓ it deserves it. What a great time. Who's picking next? I'm picking next. And boy, I bet ⁓ are are you guys buckled in? I'm I installed a seatbelt to this wooden chair earlier. Cause we're going on an emotional ride with a familiar face. So we're gonna watch hold on. I wanna get the year. We're gonna watch the nineteen eighty nine film with Sally Field steal Magnolias. Let's go. Never saw it before. Me excuse to watch it. Are you if you need to cry I have no idea what it's about. I'm not gonna anything up. I'm not gonna watch the journey. Go on the journey. Go on the journey. So this is starring ⁓ let me just tell you who it's starring. Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley McClane, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Daryl Hannah, Dylan McDermott. Ooh. One of our one of our great fans. Dolly Parton, too? We get Dolly? This is probably her best film work. Okay. I'm excited. Let's go. Dukakis is in there. Julia Robert with all those fucking teeth. Julia Roberts. Come on. Alright. Well, I'm in a great mood. You know what? ⁓ it could it could rain another hundred millimeters and nothing could bring me down right now. that means all that's left to do is say goodnight, Kate. Good night, Kate. Four score and seven yells ago, I said goodnight to Kate. Life has brought them together. Pink is my signature color. Sally Field. Man is supposed to be made out of steel or something. Dolly Park. Who knows you show up? Shirley McLean. ⁓ leave me alone. Daryl Hannah. My personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair. Julia Roberts. I want a child of my own. And choice has made them friends. Steel magnolias. Premiering January 2nd on Showtime. I like when he got shot in the head. No. You're cheering for the wrong team. Kidding. Kate was so mad when the amendment passed, she was like, God damn it.
