- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talks B follow
- 0:12Speaker 1: this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: When you report into our economy focus on small to
- 0:18Speaker 2: mediums i e. The Smeeth growing positivity, a third saying
- 0:22Speaker 2: they've got more work lined up this quarter than usual, manufacturing, retail, construction,
- 0:26Speaker 2: all looked good. Chris Small is the ABC Business Sales
- 0:29Speaker 2: CEO and news back. Well, this is Chris. Morning to you.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Well in Mikey going very well, indeed, thank you.
- 0:33Speaker 2: How would you describe the vibe generally?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Oh, look, I'd describe a really really positive especially in
- 0:40Speaker 3: comparison to the previous two years we've had. We've we've
- 0:42Speaker 3: had numerous high volumes of business owners coming to see
- 0:46Speaker 3: us who we saw this time last year and said, look,
- 0:48Speaker 3: I'm not gonna I'm not going to take my business
- 0:50Speaker 3: to Mark. My earnings are down, and they're now saying
- 0:52Speaker 3: I've had a pretty strong last two quarters. In its
- 0:57Speaker 3: talk and then even just I was driving down Ponsby
- 1:01Speaker 3: Road about seven o'clock this Tuesday, it was papped. Every
- 1:04Speaker 3: restaurant and bar was busy that time. At this time
- 1:07Speaker 3: last year, it was certainly not the same same sort
- 1:10Speaker 3: of vibe out there. So no, we agree with all
- 1:12Speaker 3: the surveys that have come out. I mean, on top
- 1:14Speaker 3: of a zero survey, there's also Force oak Bar had
- 1:17Speaker 3: a CVO come out yesterday sixteen hundred businesses and one
- 1:20Speaker 3: of the questions was would you invest more or the
- 1:22Speaker 3: same as last year, and eighty five percent said they're
- 1:25Speaker 3: going to invest more all the same as that had
- 1:27Speaker 3: last year. So all in asb I heard your commentary
- 1:31Speaker 3: on ASP that's all positive. Four percent increase in business lending.
- 1:35Speaker 3: So look, everything we're reading and hearing is super positive,
- 1:38Speaker 3: which is great.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That's good. As regards sales, how does that work? So yes,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you're any more things looking good? Do you sell or
- 1:44Speaker 2: do you go? Hang on? I'll hold on for some
- 1:46Speaker 2: good times.
- 1:48Speaker 3: That's great question that they tell us. In the bad times,
- 1:51Speaker 3: they want to sell, but they're not ready to sell,
- 1:53Speaker 3: so they're not going to maximize daruy and then as
- 1:54Speaker 3: soon as they start making money, they oh, this is
- 1:56Speaker 3: this is easy again, so we'll hold on. But a
- 1:58Speaker 3: number of these people are baby boomers and some of
- 2:01Speaker 3: them are nearly seventies and they are ready to go,
- 2:04Speaker 3: so they definitely will be heading the go THEA and
- 2:06Speaker 3: they've just been patiently way like good keyw weis do
- 2:09Speaker 3: to try and maximize abit. Know, homeowners don't want to
- 2:12Speaker 3: sell at the bottom of the cycle, and business owners
- 2:14Speaker 3: are exectuvely the same.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Now, what about the hiring aspect, When do the good
- 2:18Speaker 2: times if you're seeing good times, now, when do they
- 2:20Speaker 2: do you think lead to more hiring, because there's one
- 2:22Speaker 2: thing to make more, but you've got to eventually be
- 2:24Speaker 2: expanding enough to employ people.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great question, and unfortunately we've got this
- 2:30Speaker 3: h AI sort of over the top of everything we're
- 2:33Speaker 3: doing at the moment, even in my business where we're
- 2:35Speaker 3: looking at implementing an AI type solution, which lots of
- 2:38Speaker 3: other businesses are, especially in the sort of white collar sector.
- 2:41Speaker 3: So we may see businesses make more money and be
- 2:45Speaker 3: more profitable, but it may not necessarily translate to more
- 2:49Speaker 3: jobs being created because of a pretty big change that's
- 2:53Speaker 3: going to affect especially the white collar service type job.
- 2:56Speaker 3: So yeah, I think in the blue collar and labor market, yep,
- 3:00Speaker 3: we'll see we see it uptick as the infrastructure projects
- 3:03Speaker 3: kick off because robots can't quite dig holes just yet.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But certainly within the white causes. We may we may
- 3:08Speaker 3: actually see high profitability but declining jobs.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Great inside has always Chris good to heavy on the program.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Chris Small ABC business sales CEO. Speaking of which our
- 3:18Speaker 2: old make Kelly Ekhold has come to the party. If
- 3:19Speaker 2: you missed these numbers this morning, estimated GDP for the
- 3:23Speaker 2: last year one point eight. I can't see it. We
- 3:25Speaker 2: haven't got Q four yet from last year. But when
- 3:27Speaker 2: we do, which can't be far away, I can't see
- 3:29Speaker 2: it being much less than what it was in Q three,
- 3:31Speaker 2: which was over one. It will be one or thereabouts anyway.
- 3:34Speaker 2: He thinks one point out for the year. He's picking
- 3:36Speaker 2: three point three this year in election year, if you
- 3:41Speaker 2: can see and feel that the government are home free.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And then he's got two point seven for twenty seven,
- 3:46Speaker 2: and that, by the way, is a significant upgrade. He
- 3:49Speaker 2: sees what Chris sees, what most of us are starting
- 3:51Speaker 2: to see.
