- 0:00Speaker 1: Tuesday afternoon, Chile. But not frigid in other words, not
- 0:04Speaker 1: in terms of blood freezing or anything like that, at
- 0:07Speaker 1: least not yet. Anyway, we'll see all the rest of
- 0:09Speaker 1: the week goes all right. As I mentioned and been
- 0:12Speaker 1: talking about, we're gonna let you hear from the Long
- 0:14Speaker 1: Orange Quarterbacks or without further ado. Here it is the
- 0:17Speaker 1: conversation with QB one the media zoom with Long Orange
- 0:21Speaker 1: quarterback quin.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yours Hi, quinn'l Rabine West from the Columbus Dispatch. You're
- 0:27Speaker 2: I was seeing Columbus only one semester. What stands out
- 0:30Speaker 2: to you about that time and and your decision to
- 0:33Speaker 2: come and your decision to go. Obviously CJ Stroud and
- 0:36Speaker 2: established himself. I'm sure that was a big reason. But
- 0:38Speaker 2: if you could kind of talk about your time here, Yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 2: learned a lot while.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I was there, under you know, coach Day and and
- 0:46Speaker 3: CJ and just that whole room was awesome to be around,
- 0:49Speaker 3: and no, super thankful for that time that I got
- 0:52Speaker 3: to spend there.
- 0:53Speaker 4: And like I said, I learned a whole lot.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So I don't regret any decision I made on going
- 0:59Speaker 3: or or anything like that. So but the main reason
- 1:02Speaker 3: I went was I felt like I had a you know,
- 1:04Speaker 3: a great relationship with with the coaching staff, and you know,
- 1:07Speaker 3: they were winning a lot of games, and I wanted
- 1:09Speaker 3: to go be a part of something like that. And
- 1:12Speaker 3: the reason that I came back to Texas was one,
- 1:16Speaker 3: you know, to be closer to where I'm from and
- 1:18Speaker 3: just closer to the resources that I have and you know,
- 1:21Speaker 3: the relationships that I've built over time just being from Texas.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Hey, Quinn, kind of along those lines, what was one
- 1:28Speaker 5: of the biggest tips that you got from CJ?
- 1:31Speaker 4: And do you still keep up with him as well?
- 1:33Speaker 6: Now he's not too far from you in Houston.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Yeah, no, we don't. We don't keep up that much.
- 1:38Speaker 3: But you know, I got one of his receivers that
- 1:41Speaker 3: he played with in high school in Silas Bolden, So
- 1:43Speaker 3: we we caught up a little bit over that just.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Talking about Silas.
- 1:46Speaker 3: But you know, it's it's been fun to watch him
- 1:48Speaker 3: and as his NFL career, you know, continues and everything.
- 1:51Speaker 3: But you know, what I really learned from from the
- 1:54Speaker 3: guys in that room is really how to be a
- 1:55Speaker 3: college quarterback and kind of what it takes to be
- 1:57Speaker 3: a college quarterback from preparing in the film room and
- 2:01Speaker 3: taking that on to practice and then ultimately the game.
- 2:05Speaker 7: Hey, Quinn, just kind of going off of that as well,
- 2:07Speaker 7: what's it gonna be like going up against you know,
- 2:09Speaker 7: your former coach and Ryan Day, but you've also got
- 2:11Speaker 7: some of your former teammates. Kyler Williams called you his
- 2:14Speaker 7: guy the other day, and you've got you know, a
- 2:16Speaker 7: Mecca Buka.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Guys like that.
- 2:17Speaker 7: So what that what's that gonna be like for you?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be awesome just to get to see
- 2:22Speaker 3: all those guys again. I mean in this semester that
- 2:25Speaker 3: I was there, I feel like I made, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: some pretty good relationships while I was there, and you know,
- 2:30Speaker 3: those guys were those guys were fun to be around
- 2:32Speaker 3: when I was there. They they took me in and
- 2:35Speaker 3: and kind of in a weird time for sure, for
- 2:37Speaker 3: as me coming in as you know, kind of in
- 2:39Speaker 3: the middle of fall camp, and you know, some of
- 2:41Speaker 3: those guys just kind of you know, Sam, what's up
- 2:44Speaker 3: to me? As simple as that, and you know, kind
- 2:45Speaker 3: of welcome, welcoming me in, and you know, I felt
- 2:48Speaker 3: like I belonged there, and it was It's gonna be
- 2:51Speaker 3: fun to get to see those guys. You know, me
- 2:53Speaker 3: and me and Jack Sawyer were roommates my freshman year
- 2:56Speaker 3: with a couple other guys. So it's it's gonna be
- 2:58Speaker 3: it's gonna be cool to get to see those guys.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Sure way, good afternoon. So I'm curious from your time
- 3:05Speaker 5: here at Texas, do you remember a time when not
- 3:10Speaker 5: only coach Sarkisian aj Millwey the rest of the entire
- 3:14Speaker 5: staff and team when they put their complete and unwavering
- 3:18Speaker 5: trust in you.
- 3:20Speaker 8: As their quarterback.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Do you remember that time and what.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Was it like?
- 3:26Speaker 3: Well, I mean, sorry, so someone say something. Nope, Okay,
- 3:34Speaker 3: Well I can tell you my first fall camp here. Obviously,
- 3:40Speaker 3: I was battling with Hudson Hudson card to earn the
- 3:45Speaker 3: starting job, and then towards the end of that Sark
- 3:48Speaker 3: and me had a, you know, a good conversation where
- 3:51Speaker 3: he pretty much told me that it's it's my job.
- 3:54Speaker 3: And you know, I think that was a big step
- 3:57Speaker 3: for me, obviously, because it makes things a whole lot easier.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Whenever you do know that you're going to be the quarterback,
- 4:01Speaker 3: and especially the starter. It just helps my confidence for sure.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And then you know, in that year there's definitely some
- 4:08Speaker 3: ups and downs we're going.
- 4:11Speaker 4: On with the injury.
- 4:12Speaker 3: You know, we we came out the first quarter against
- 4:14Speaker 3: Alabama and in twenty twenty two, and you know, we
- 4:17Speaker 3: were rolling as an offense, and I feel like that
- 4:19Speaker 3: obviously helped build confidence in me and then everybody around me, and.
- 4:24Speaker 4: From from then on out, it's kind of just built
- 4:27Speaker 4: on from then.
- 4:29Speaker 7: Hey, Quinn, just want to ask from your time at
- 4:31Speaker 7: Ohio State, are there any specific relationships you made with
- 4:34Speaker 7: people there that have really stayed strong for YouTube is day?
- 4:39Speaker 3: Well, I mean, me and me and Kyle still still
- 4:44Speaker 3: talk to get him out. I know he's not there anymore,
- 4:45Speaker 3: but we talk often, and I mean, I'm I guess
- 4:51Speaker 3: it's been a little bit.
- 4:52Speaker 4: But to me, those relationships.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Feel like if I'd see him, you know, walking down
- 4:59Speaker 3: the side of the road, be like, you know, I
- 5:01Speaker 3: was hanging out with them yesterday. I just feel like
- 5:03Speaker 3: those the relationship that I built there were just they
- 5:06Speaker 3: were they were definitely super special for sure.
- 5:08Speaker 7: When what is what is a finish to the Peach
- 5:12Speaker 7: Bowl like you had fourth and thirteen and then turning
- 5:17Speaker 7: right around hitting Gunner for the touchdown, then hitting Matt
- 5:21Speaker 7: for the two point conversion. What what does that do
- 5:24Speaker 7: for your confidence? And as a quarterback, the biggest moment
- 5:29Speaker 7: to deliver.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's you know, it's it's awesome for
- 5:36Speaker 3: everybody around us and everybody around me, and you know whenever,
- 5:40Speaker 3: you know, we had our backs up against the wall
- 5:41Speaker 3: for sure in that game, you know, fourth and thirteen,
- 5:44Speaker 3: you know, in a moment we had to have it
- 5:45Speaker 3: and you know, Matt made a great play on a
- 5:49Speaker 3: on a double move and you know, I think that
- 5:53Speaker 3: that single play he allowed us to regain momentum and
- 5:57Speaker 3: go on to win the rest of that game. And
- 5:59Speaker 3: it's the huge for our confidence, just because you know,
- 6:03Speaker 3: being in those top of moments tho's gotta have it
- 6:06Speaker 3: moments and coming out with a win is huge.
- 6:11Speaker 7: In what what has to happen against Ohio State? What
- 6:16Speaker 7: you know, what kind of performance does the offense need
- 6:19Speaker 7: to have for you all to pull off this win?
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean we just got to go play our
- 6:25Speaker 3: game and execute at a high level and you know,
- 6:28Speaker 3: have first and second down wins that will ultimately lead
- 6:31Speaker 3: to shorter third downs and more manageable third downs. And
- 6:36Speaker 3: if we're able to do that, then the drive will
- 6:39Speaker 3: continue to work down the field and then you know,
- 6:41Speaker 3: obviously we have to score in the red zone field goals.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I don't think we'll get it done.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Wan.
- 6:47Speaker 8: If you size up the Ohio State defense, and especially
- 6:50Speaker 8: your old friend Jack Sawyer, uh, what stands out? What
- 6:54Speaker 8: jumps out you? I know they had twelve sacks in
- 6:56Speaker 8: the last two games, So how would you assess them?
- 7:01Speaker 3: Well, I think that they're a really high effort group
- 7:04Speaker 3: and they play super hard, and you know, they're coached
- 7:07Speaker 3: really well. And whenever you have coaches like that that
- 7:10Speaker 3: that put the schemes in that they have and you
- 7:12Speaker 3: know it's they create, you know, mismatches and they create
- 7:17Speaker 3: you know, one on ones that you know, they do
- 7:20Speaker 3: a good job of, you know, maximizing every opportunity that
- 7:23Speaker 3: they that they get. And you know, I think they
- 7:25Speaker 3: do a really good job of covering on the back end.
- 7:29Speaker 3: And I think they're just a really good overall defense.
- 7:32Speaker 9: I think when when you first got to OHAS, I
- 7:35Speaker 9: think it was in the middle of training camp you
- 7:37Speaker 9: could reclassified. Can you kind of talk about kind of
- 7:39Speaker 9: what the motivation was to arrive in and what the
- 7:42Speaker 9: challenge was like joining the team at that juncture kind
- 7:45Speaker 9: of in the middle of camp.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I guess one of the main things was
- 7:54Speaker 3: that there was that I don't know if you guys
- 7:55Speaker 3: remember or not, but the Texas legislature wasn't gonna allow
- 7:59Speaker 3: high school fotball player to be paid, and you know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: me and my family had a pretty big opportunity in
- 8:03Speaker 3: front of us that you know, we felt that it
- 8:06Speaker 3: was a good a good decision for me to go
- 8:09Speaker 3: on and you know, forego my senior year and enroll
- 8:11Speaker 3: early at Ohio State and you know, have the opportunity
- 8:13Speaker 3: to have some some good money in our pockets as
- 8:18Speaker 3: a family.
- 8:19Speaker 4: And sorry, what was the back end of that question?
- 8:23Speaker 9: Just just uh in getting to the team in the
- 8:26Speaker 9: middle of camp, I imagine that was the challenge.
- 8:28Speaker 6: What was that like?
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it was.
- 8:29Speaker 3: It was definitely definitely had to grow up super fast.
- 8:34Speaker 4: You know, as you know, fall camp is not easy.
- 8:36Speaker 3: And you know, going from a high school schedule to
- 8:40Speaker 3: where you know, you're practicing after school whatever it is,
- 8:42Speaker 3: practicing before school, and you know, for me to kind
- 8:45Speaker 3: of go in in the middle of fall camp and
- 8:49Speaker 3: you know practice at a college level was definitely a
- 8:52Speaker 3: shock for sure. But again, I'm just super thankful for
- 8:56Speaker 3: my opportunity that I that I had up there.
- 8:59Speaker 9: You mentioned your report system here and being closer to that.
- 9:01Speaker 9: Was it difficult to be away from them as you
- 9:04Speaker 9: kind of went through that transition there and not getting
- 9:08Speaker 9: to play as much.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's definitely tough whenever. You know, I've
- 9:13Speaker 3: never really been a backup in my life. And you know,
- 9:15Speaker 3: obviously CJ was you know, very much deserving to be playing,
- 9:19Speaker 3: for sure, and I'm a young kid, you know, but
- 9:23Speaker 3: you know, it's tough whenever you're supposed to be a
- 9:25Speaker 3: senior and you know, you see all your all your
- 9:27Speaker 3: buddies who you grew.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Up with, you know, still playing football, and you know,
- 9:30Speaker 4: I'm just.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Sitting obviously because I wasn't prepared to go play a game,
- 9:37Speaker 3: you know, I just got in the middle of fall camp.
- 9:40Speaker 3: But you know, going back to it, I think again,
- 9:42Speaker 3: it was just its just a shock for me to
- 9:44Speaker 3: to to go into a going from high school level
- 9:48Speaker 3: to college level.
- 9:50Speaker 10: Hey, Quentinn, now that you've had a chance to kind
- 9:51Speaker 10: of look over the film and reflect on it, what
- 9:53Speaker 10: stands out about that fourth and thirteen playing? Where is
- 9:56Speaker 10: that kind of rank on your personal favorite plays? Of
- 9:59Speaker 10: your time in Texas.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean it's definitely up there for sure,
- 10:04Speaker 3: But I don't even think I watched it on film,
- 10:10Speaker 3: to be honest with you. You know, just straight here,
- 10:12Speaker 3: straight through Ohio State.
- 10:15Speaker 11: Hey, Quinn Donovan bridge Forth, TXA in twenty four News,
- 10:19Speaker 11: what do you think will be the key to setting
- 10:21Speaker 11: the tone early against Ohio State? And how important is
- 10:24Speaker 11: it to get a fast start in the game of
- 10:26Speaker 11: this magnitude And can you kind of tell me about
- 10:29Speaker 11: like the chemistry how you were talking about earlier of
- 10:31Speaker 11: the offense and how that'll play into the execution.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you know, I think if we go out
- 10:39Speaker 3: and just play our game, get completions early, and just
- 10:44Speaker 3: continue to have first and second down wins, I think
- 10:46Speaker 3: we'll be in a good spot to where we want
- 10:48Speaker 3: to whatever start wants to call those shots downfield will
- 10:52Speaker 3: be in a good enough spot to where he's comfortable
- 10:53Speaker 3: enough to call those shots or whatever it is. And
- 10:57Speaker 3: you know, the chemistry off the field definitely helps on
- 10:59Speaker 3: the field for sure, because you know, just the relationship
- 11:02Speaker 3: and the rapport that we've all built together carries on
- 11:05Speaker 3: to the field. You know, we want to play for
- 11:07Speaker 3: each other, We want to play for the guy to
- 11:10Speaker 3: are right in our left. It just acts that, you know,
- 11:12Speaker 3: extra extra motivation if it's needed.
- 11:16Speaker 12: Good Affington Quinn just want to revisit that fourth and fourteen.
- 11:20Speaker 12: We've spoken Matt after the game and he said that
- 11:22Speaker 12: you were kind of the calming presence in the huddle.
- 11:25Speaker 12: I'm just curious how important is it for you as
- 11:27Speaker 12: the quarterback to be that calming presence. Not you know,
- 11:30Speaker 12: no respect to Jake or Calvin or guys like that.
- 11:32Speaker 12: Weels there are great players, but how important is it
- 11:34Speaker 12: for you as the quarterback to be that calming presence
- 11:36Speaker 12: for everybody?
- 11:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 11:38Speaker 3: I think that's huge for the quarterback to be that
- 11:40Speaker 3: guy who's going to be calm within the storm and
- 11:43Speaker 3: just the guy to kind of rely on.
- 11:45Speaker 4: And you know, I.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I pictured it as when I want when I when
- 11:49Speaker 3: I see a receiver in Oligneman and running back tied
- 11:54Speaker 3: End look at me, I want them to see the
- 11:56Speaker 3: calmness and hear the calmness in my voice and you know,
- 11:59Speaker 3: just see like, oh he's calm, like you know, we
- 12:01Speaker 3: got this, We're good. You know, if he's comfortable, I'm
- 12:05Speaker 3: gonna be comfortable. And you know, I just want to
- 12:06Speaker 3: be that guy that just kind of that example for
- 12:10Speaker 3: for other guys who you know, might be a little
- 12:14Speaker 3: nervous for the for the situation or for the moment,
- 12:17Speaker 3: but you know, it's the guys that make the plays
- 12:18Speaker 3: around me.
- 12:19Speaker 6: When as far as the things you learned in your
- 12:22Speaker 6: semester at Ohio State, is there anything? Is there anything
- 12:25Speaker 6: specifically or anything that's carry over from your time under
- 12:28Speaker 6: coach Day that you feel like was a good habit
- 12:30Speaker 6: or something you learned about football or just like that's
- 12:33Speaker 6: carried over.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean, going back to it again, I
- 12:36Speaker 3: think that they did a really good job of preparing
- 12:39Speaker 3: from week to week and that's like the first time
- 12:41Speaker 3: that I really got to see it firsthand. At this level,
- 12:46Speaker 3: you know how to watch film and how to prepare
- 12:51Speaker 3: for the game, for the upcoming game, and you know,
- 12:55Speaker 3: because obviously it's different from from the high school level,
- 12:57Speaker 3: you know, and getting to see that first I think was.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Awesome for me.
- 13:01Speaker 1: There it is from long Orange quarterback when yours, we're
- 13:04Speaker 1: going to hear from one of his receive another one
- 13:06Speaker 1: of his receiving targets. You already heard from Matthew Golden.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You're going to hear from Gunnar Helm when we continue
- 13:11Speaker 1: here on AM thirteen under the zone
