Transcript
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Have you ever put together a thousand-piece puzzle?
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: If so, you know that there's a big difference between the image on the puzzle box and the reality of dumping out a thousand pieces onto the table.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We tend to look at our lives as one unbroken string of events that consists of people, memories, and emotions.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: But the reality of everyday life is much different.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: In fact, the way we experience life is mainly within the confines of 24-hour periods.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: We live our lives gazing at the complete picture on the puzzle box.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: We have hopes, dreams, goals, and ambitions, but the picture is actually made of those tiny puzzle pieces jumbled up on the table.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: In the same way, your life is made up of those tiny 24-hour blocks we call days.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And when you get right down to it, your life is just a collection of days, nothing more and nothing less.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Every book that's ever been written, every movie that's been directed, every building that's been built, and every worthwhile accomplishment of humanity has been done by using the time available within the confines of those 24-hour days.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: As the writer Annie Dillard once said, how we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Whatever good things you want to happen with your writing will come about because of what you do with your days.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: That bright future you imagine isn't out there somewhere, it's right there in front of you, available to you just as it's always been available to everybody else.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: We all have the same 24 hours in a day.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: The single greatest predictor of your success as a writer, or success in any other area of life, for that matter, is how you use those days.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Days are the building blocks of your life.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: So use each one well.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at dailywriterlife.comslash writing prompts.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Thanks, and I'll see you tomorrow.
