- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You the adventurer?
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, you.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Do you desire knowledge of immense worlds and arcane power?
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: A codex of untold stories and lore?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Or perhaps simply easy listening for your daily commute.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Then feast your eyes, or more accurately, yes, upon Dungeon Pedia.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Shit's about to get nerdy in here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_04: And I'm Travis Beasley.
- 0:48SPEAKER_05: And I had a dream.
- 0:49SPEAKER_05: You had a dream?
- 0:50SPEAKER_05: I did.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 0:52SPEAKER_05: So this is nothing new for me personally.
- 0:55SPEAKER_05: I tend to have a lot of dreams that are about DD.
- 1:00SPEAKER_05: Well, yes, but that also end up either being true mostly like way later on, or that at least help me as long as I can remember the dream.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thing things that like inspire like actual events later on.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: So this one falls into that uh well, actually it falls into both categories, really.
- 1:21SPEAKER_04: I I guess well.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: So because of a whole lot of work shenanigans, I was not prepared until yesterday to actually record this episode.
- 1:35SPEAKER_05: And I had to do all of my research yesterday, but I didn't know what the hell I was gonna research.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: But the night before, I had a dream that helped me figure it out.
- 1:47SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:48SPEAKER_05: Basically, in my dream, all I did was Google the ecology of articles and found a giant list of all of the articles in all of the dragon magazines that they did the ecology of blank.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: So when I woke up and had to do research, I immediately went to my computer, sat down.
- 2:12SPEAKER_05: That's a really good idea.
- 2:14SPEAKER_05: Googled it, found pretty much the exact same list as in my dream, and scrolled through it, reading some ecologies, and found out what I was gonna do.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: That's that's a really good idea.
- 2:29SPEAKER_04: Welcome to like my next five episodes.
- 2:31SPEAKER_04: I'm just gonna do the same thing.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, there were so many.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: There are a lot.
- 2:36SPEAKER_04: If it works, it works.
- 2:38SPEAKER_04: So what what are we discussing the ecology of today?
- 2:42SPEAKER_05: The ecology of the shambling mound.
- 2:45SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: Which was we fought one of those.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: I wouldn't call it a fight.
- 2:52SPEAKER_05: You didn't even get to attack.
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: We mopped the floor with it.
- 2:55SPEAKER_05: My poor shambling mounded attack.
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we we destroyed it.
- 3:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you did.
- 3:02SPEAKER_05: It was it was nice.
- 3:03SPEAKER_05: I mean, he was cool though.
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: He was cool.
- 3:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, uh, you guys didn't get to see any of its abilities though.
- 3:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you were so mad after that.
- 3:10SPEAKER_05: I remember that.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: So now I get to tell you about their abilities.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Yay!
- 3:17SPEAKER_05: Of course, starting off with the very beginning.
- 3:20SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 3:21SPEAKER_05: Uh which was the monster manual won in 1977.
- 3:26SPEAKER_05: Oh man, they're old.
- 3:31SPEAKER_04: I say that like I'm surprised.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: I feel like I have seen them in that monster manual and was like, oh, shambling mound, they're old.
- 3:37SPEAKER_04: Continues on and then forgets about it.
- 3:39SPEAKER_05: And much like pretty much everything else, the art style changed drastically.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: It happens.
- 3:49SPEAKER_05: But um, and this is true for pretty much every edition.
- 3:54SPEAKER_05: They are also just mentioned as shamblers.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Uh nice.
- 3:59SPEAKER_05: So it's like you have shambling mound or shamblers, just kind of like interchangeable.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: Interchangeable.
- 4:05SPEAKER_05: They had eight to eleven hit dice in 1977.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 4:12SPEAKER_05: So in, you know, first edition.
- 4:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_05: Still using the Thacco system, their AC was zero.
- 4:20SPEAKER_05: Okay, so it was decent.
- 4:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's that's not bad.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: They are described as appearing as a heap of rotting vegetation.
- 4:29SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 4:31SPEAKER_05: They are actually intelligent.
- 4:34SPEAKER_05: They're intelligent forms of vegetable life, pretty much.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Uh I yeah, I I have some experience researching in that.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: Well, and they're they're like uh matte gray, right?
- 4:46SPEAKER_04: With no no color to them.
- 4:49SPEAKER_05: Listen.
- 4:50SPEAKER_05: He would just painted sooner or later.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: There's a shambling mound, Vinny, that did you did you buy him this afternoon?
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, because um this bitch over here, we pre-pandemic, uh, were no, you're good.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry for bringing up this.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: We were at our local I'm sorry, listeners.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: We were at our local game store, you know, uh supporting local businesses.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: Which you should be doing.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: Not right now.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: Well, I mean, if you don't go, don't go there, but maybe, you know, if if you can't buy things.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: In general, though, support local businesses.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: Anyway, so we were uh we were at the local game store and I was looking at minis and because I needed new mini paints because I go through a lot.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: And um because you don't have a problem.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: Shut up.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: And uh we were going through the minis and Travis now, mind you, this is a week or two before we are set to play this campaign together.
- 5:56SPEAKER_04: Oh, this was oh, this was before.
- 5:58SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 5:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, this was during the Death House uh Well, yeah, but I I thought you brought up the mini after.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: We we played the murder house pre-strahd campaign thing.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: And Travis finds this shambling mound, picks up and goes, Oh, hey, cool, shambling mounds.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: And I had recently been looking into shambling mounds just because I stumbled upon them and I and they're cool.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: I didn't think anything of it.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh yeah, shambling mounds, that's really cool.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: And Travis, like, you know, does his whole routine of oh we don't need it and everything.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: I'm like, well, you should buy it, it'll be fun.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: We can paint together.
- 6:35SPEAKER_04: I tricked her.
- 6:36SPEAKER_04: Because this was supposed to be Travis's to paint.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_04: And then I okay, I remember.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: And then when he when you busted it out in that fight, Taylor was so mad.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_04: Anyway, uh, and he hasn't painted it, by the way.
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: And that's what I'm roasting him for.
- 6:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: So I'm sorry.
- 6:55SPEAKER_05: But no, they are not gray, they're usually kind of just various like brown greens, nasty of rotting hunks of vegetables.
- 7:06SPEAKER_05: Vegetation.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: Vegetation.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Vegetation.
- 7:09SPEAKER_05: Um, they do have a low intelligence rating, though, so it's not like they're highly intelligent.
- 7:14SPEAKER_05: It's just a very low intelligence rating.
- 7:16SPEAKER_05: They're they're maybe more intelligent than you would expect.
- 7:19SPEAKER_05: Still not very intelligent.
- 7:20SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 7:21SPEAKER_05: Rip.
- 7:22SPEAKER_05: Um, they can be between six to nine feet in height, with a girth of six feet at its base and two feet on top.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: It's a girthy boy.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: I hate that word.
- 7:34SPEAKER_05: Um generally, you know, they're found in like the dismal marshes or makes sense.
- 7:40SPEAKER_05: Wet subterranean places.
- 7:43SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 7:43SPEAKER_05: Any word that's damp and cursed basements.
- 7:46SPEAKER_05: Dank.
- 7:46SPEAKER_05: Dank.
- 7:47SPEAKER_05: Dank.
- 7:48SPEAKER_05: Cursed basements.
- 7:49SPEAKER_05: Cursed basements.
- 7:50SPEAKER_05: Cursed basements, you know, those lovely things.
- 7:53SPEAKER_05: Um, they are um omnivorous.
- 7:56SPEAKER_05: I always have issues saying that word, and I don't know why.
- 7:58SPEAKER_05: Well, I think you did a good job.
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you did 10 out of 10.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: I I wouldn't have said anything had you not, so good job.
- 8:06SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: So they'll feed on any living matter they come across, be it plant or animal animal or human or goblin.
- 8:15SPEAKER_05: Whatever.
- 8:16SPEAKER_05: Anything, really.
- 8:17SPEAKER_05: They'll eat anything.
- 8:18SPEAKER_05: All it says here is that they use their weird roots and tendrils to feed, but there's like no further explanation as to how exactly that happens.
- 8:31SPEAKER_05: So it was just kind of like, uh, we'll just leave it at that, I guess.
- 8:34SPEAKER_05: I I guess they just kind of absorb that's my guess, yeah.
- 8:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:40SPEAKER_04: Well, I I was about to say, how do plants use their roots to feed?
- 8:45SPEAKER_04: I don't know, but I'm assuming it's a something.
- 8:47SPEAKER_05: They generally absorb the nutrients from the soil.
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, but like, what's the process of doing that is what I'm saying.
- 8:53SPEAKER_04: I'm assuming it's no.
- 8:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I uh uh I'm not a botanist.
- 8:57SPEAKER_04: I am assuming it's sim similar for the the shampling mounds.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: Why do they have a mouth then?
- 9:03SPEAKER_04: I will get to that.
- 9:04SPEAKER_04: Oh shit.
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: Because this guy, I have the mini in my hands right now, because this guy's got a mouth.
- 9:09SPEAKER_05: Yep, I will get to that actually.
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: Cool.
- 9:11SPEAKER_05: And again, pretty much the same through all editions.
- 9:15SPEAKER_05: They attack twice per round.
- 9:17SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: And in this particular edition, if both of their clubbing attacks hit a single opponent, then the victim is entangled and will be suffocated in the creature's slime for or in two to eight rounds unless the creature is killed before then.
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: Hmm.
- 9:34SPEAKER_04: I wonder what that's like.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: Since we fucking destroyed it.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: We wrecked it so hard.
- 9:41SPEAKER_04: It didn't even get to do that.
- 9:42SPEAKER_04: I never got a chance.
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm so sorry.
- 9:45SPEAKER_04: I'm so sorry you didn't get to suffocate one of our nice uh new in uh new characters.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that we were so excited to play.
- 9:55SPEAKER_05: Um so their brain is not actually located in their head.
- 10:00SPEAKER_05: Is it is it in their butt?
- 10:01SPEAKER_05: It's located more in their like chest torso region, like the mid-area.
- 10:06SPEAKER_05: Oh gosh.
- 10:08SPEAKER_05: And it's then like covered by the thick vines that makes it really difficult to get to.
- 10:13SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 10:14SPEAKER_05: Fire has no effect on them because they're dead, wet vegetation.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: It the fire's gonna go out.
- 10:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the fire would do nothing.
- 10:24SPEAKER_05: Um, lightning actually will cause them to grow.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Uh what is this Frankenstein bullshit up in here?
- 10:33SPEAKER_05: Bad idea.
- 10:34SPEAKER_05: Uh, which in this particular case they would gain one hit die.
- 10:39SPEAKER_05: Ooh, that's bad.
- 10:41SPEAKER_05: Um, cold damage will do either half damage or no damage at all, depending on if they succeed their saving throw.
- 10:49SPEAKER_05: Physical weapons only deal half damage.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 10:52SPEAKER_05: They have this incredible ability to flatten themselves, so like crushing them in any way has very little effect.
- 11:00SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 11:00SPEAKER_05: Because they're plants, so they can just kind of like squish to the ground and I'm trying to remember what does hurt them.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: Uh didn't What did we use?
- 11:10SPEAKER_04: I just hit it a lot with my swords.
- 11:13SPEAKER_05: You guys got really lucky and hit it a lot.
- 11:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 11:18SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 11:18SPEAKER_04: Like it was Well, and I think I did some psychic damage to it.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Probably that too.
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: A little vicious mockery action.
- 11:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think.
- 11:27SPEAKER_05: Um they can still be affected by spells that are specifically meant for plants, such as like charm plant or plant control.
- 11:36SPEAKER_05: Plant control.
- 11:38SPEAKER_05: Because they're plants, so you can actually like control them.
- 11:42SPEAKER_05: They're just gross plants.
- 11:43SPEAKER_05: And this was kind of interesting.
- 11:45SPEAKER_05: I just happened to come across it under the shrieker entry in this monster manual, which the shrieker is just like a mindless fungus that will emit air Wow.
- 11:57SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: That will emit that will emit a piercing shriek when light comes within 30 feet or if movement comes within 10 feet of it.
- 12:08SPEAKER_05: Same.
- 12:08SPEAKER_05: And it shrieks to attract other monsters around.
- 12:12SPEAKER_05: It doesn't really do anything else other than just shriek.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Same.
- 12:17SPEAKER_04: But that's what is it trying to do?
- 12:22SPEAKER_05: It's kind of just like a warning system.
- 12:27SPEAKER_04: Oh, maybe that's the oh, maybe it was like bred to do that by like a wizard.
- 12:32SPEAKER_04: They do that kind of thing.
- 12:33SPEAKER_04: They do that kind of thing.
- 12:35SPEAKER_04: You're right.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: I didn't look into the like I started laughing, but only because of how right you are.
- 12:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 12:41SPEAKER_05: I didn't look into the ecology of the shrieker, but possibly.
- 12:53SPEAKER_04: Nope, can't do that.
- 12:55SPEAKER_04: The mushrooms in the background.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: I made a mushroom that screams all the time.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Why?
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 13:04SPEAKER_05: So it states that shambling mounds actually greatly prize shriekers as food.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: Huh.
- 13:12SPEAKER_05: So, you know, they just like to eat shriekers.
- 13:16SPEAKER_05: They're just like I assume because they're annoying as hell.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Probably, but you know what?
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 13:23SPEAKER_04: They're just like sh like shrieking as they go down the gullet of a well, they don't eat I guess they don't chomp on them, but the the visual of them screaming while they're being swallowed is just like hilarious.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: It's it's worth the visual for sure.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:37SPEAKER_05: So jumping to the monster manual for second edition in 1993, it gives us a little more information.
- 13:45SPEAKER_05: They are solitary beings, only living with other shamblers if a food source is constant.
- 13:53SPEAKER_05: Or if it's near famous ruins or abandoned gold mines.
- 13:57SPEAKER_05: I don't know why it did not explain.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: So this shambling mound really, really likes to tour the historical sites.
- 14:08SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 14:09SPEAKER_04: My my initial thought with famous ruins was that it's kind of a I'm bringing him up again, like an Asseric tomb of annihilation.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: So like he knows people go there.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: So my thought was maybe they live near famous ruins because they view it as a constant food source that like adventurers go to.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: But okay.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: But I don't but I don't know about the the abandoned gold mine, specifically gold.
- 14:35SPEAKER_04: Also, I don't know about the abandoned mine.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: He doesn't love a good old-fashioned gold mine.
- 14:41SPEAKER_05: It could be for the same reason it's abandoned, so like there are plenty of creatures that live there.
- 14:46SPEAKER_05: Fucking kids going and taking pictures and stuff.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: That too.
- 14:50SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 14:51SPEAKER_04: But that feels like a interesting logic leap for a not very intelligent creature.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: Maybe they make that logic leap because they're not very intelligent.
- 14:59SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
- 15:00SPEAKER_04: Or maybe they just like famous historical forests.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: Also a possibility.
- 15:03SPEAKER_05: Also a possibility.
- 15:04SPEAKER_05: They're tourists.
- 15:05SPEAKER_05: So in their natural surroundings, which really means like forest, swampy area, not in ruins.
- 15:13SPEAKER_05: They are almost totally silent and invisible.
- 15:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 15:18SPEAKER_05: That makes sense.
- 15:19SPEAKER_05: They won't write it.
- 15:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_05: And moving, they cause like no sound.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: So stop it.
- 15:26SPEAKER_05: It's hard to uh it's hard to pinpoint one of them.
- 15:31SPEAKER_04: Well swamps are noisy places anyway.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: You got all the bugs.
- 15:34SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 15:35SPEAKER_04: That is also true.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: The Donkey Kong Country soundtrack playing in the background at all times.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: At all times.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: It's noisy.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: Bayou Boogie, come on now.
- 15:43SPEAKER_05: They often prefer sitting in a shallow bog waiting for a creature to walk on top of it, and then they'll attack it.
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: Quicksand.
- 15:53SPEAKER_04: Except Vines and Swampiness.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:57SPEAKER_04: Man, that sucks.
- 16:00SPEAKER_04: That really does suck.
- 16:01SPEAKER_04: That would suck.
- 16:02SPEAKER_04: You just track it through a swamp and then all of a sudden just attacked by anything.
- 16:07SPEAKER_04: That wasn't supposed to be as gross of a sound as it was.
- 16:10SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, guys.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: It's okay.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: I forgive you.
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: Now our listeners forgive us.
- 16:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: That's what I was apologizing to.
- 16:17SPEAKER_04: I don't care about what you guys think about my weird mouth noises.
- 16:19SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: But the listeners, I'm deeply sorry.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: So um they do still have the whole entangle suffocation thing.
- 16:28SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 16:28SPEAKER_05: Except it's phrased now as two D8 rounds is when they'll suffocate.
- 16:35SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's wicks.
- 16:38SPEAKER_05: That's still very quick, though.
- 16:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_05: Um they can also now be saved either by the shambling mound being killed or by breaking free with a successful bend bars or lift gates roll.
- 16:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, that sounds like something that was in second edition.
- 16:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 16:57SPEAKER_05: It I was like, okay, that's a little strange, but hey, you know, it works.
- 17:01SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 17:02SPEAKER_05: It makes sense.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: I'll accept it.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: Like, it is what it says, but there is maybe a broader category word that you could have put that under.
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: But you know, you do you.
- 17:14SPEAKER_05: And due to the ever-expanding weapons list, they are completely immune to blunt weapons and only take half damage from piercing and slashing weapons now.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: I think that we ran into that problem.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: I think we did we?
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: I think so.
- 17:34SPEAKER_04: Maybe I don't know.
- 17:35SPEAKER_05: I don't remember.
- 17:37SPEAKER_05: Um, lightning will still cause them to gain one hit dice.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: Oh, good.
- 17:42SPEAKER_05: But they also grow an extra foot in height when they're hit by lightning.
- 17:48SPEAKER_04: Also, I just accepted the word foot and just imagine them growing another foot like on their back or something.
- 17:54SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 17:55SPEAKER_04: No.
- 17:56SPEAKER_04: Stupid.
- 17:57SPEAKER_05: Um, you can cut off the head or the limbs, but the remaining vines on its like torso will just grow in one round to just form a new appendage anyway.
- 18:09SPEAKER_05: Great.
- 18:09SPEAKER_05: Which I mean it still helps because that kind of slowly weakens it.
- 18:15SPEAKER_05: Because it's having to pull from the rest of its body, but it's still like it's still pretty bad.
- 18:21SPEAKER_05: Because hacking off enough of it will eventually kill it.
- 18:25SPEAKER_05: Eventually.
- 18:26SPEAKER_05: Eventually.
- 18:27SPEAKER_05: Um, they can also rest in a damp clump of foliage to heal, and they'll be fully healed within 12 hours after doing that.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: So if you damage one and then have to run and come back, it'll probably be healed.
- 18:43SPEAKER_05: Great.
- 18:44SPEAKER_05: Love it.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:47SPEAKER_05: Uh this uh this I found really cool though.
- 18:49SPEAKER_05: They live in areas with will-o-wisps, which creatures that have attacks that deal lightning damage.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_05: So it actually stated that it is very possible for a shambling mound with 20 or more hit dice to exist in like deeper dark swamps or jungles because the will-wisps can just hit them and they'll just continue to grow.
- 19:18SPEAKER_04: Man, they have literally no cap on how big they can get.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: Man, that reminds me of a matched Pokemon I lost last week.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: Man, y y'all, y'all who do link battling know what I'm talking about.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: Beat up plus justified spam, and then they just destroyed me.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: It just destroyed me.
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: Anyway, that's what that reminds me of.
- 19:47SPEAKER_04: Also, a 20 hit die?
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: No thank you.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 19:50SPEAKER_04: That's too big.
- 19:51SPEAKER_04: It's not a lot.
- 19:52SPEAKER_04: That's a lot of that's a lot of hit die.
- 19:55SPEAKER_05: So this next thing is something that I found out that I don't know how.
- 20:01SPEAKER_05: Neither of us have ever came across this before.
- 20:04SPEAKER_05: But apparently in 1994, for second edition, there was a box set that was released called Elminster's Ecologies.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: I recently.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: What?
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Oh no.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: Never mind.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: I was like, I recently heard that word.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Where did I hear that from?
- 20:21SPEAKER_05: Me.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you.
- 20:22SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_05: Um, this is something that is written in character as Elminster and other various characters and adventurers that details the ecology of the Forgotten Realms.
- 20:37SPEAKER_05: Fuck yes.
- 20:38SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't know how we haven't come across this before, but I've literally never heard of that.
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: Here we are.
- 20:44SPEAKER_05: Um God damn.
- 20:46SPEAKER_05: And secondly, this particular thing introduced a new variant of Shambling Mound called the Serpentine Shambling Mound.
- 20:56SPEAKER_05: Uh uh.
- 20:57SPEAKER_05: So the section about them isn't terribly long.
- 21:00SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 21:01SPEAKER_05: And given that it's not terribly long, and really it's such a good story, I just can't help it.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna read the entire thing.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: Oh, hell yeah.
- 21:09SPEAKER_04: Story time.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: It is story time.
- 21:11SPEAKER_04: Settle in for story time, kids.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: Grab your your cocoa.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: You know, sit down.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: However, you prepare for story time.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: It's been a while since I've been in elementary school.
- 21:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:23SPEAKER_05: Do they even have story time in elementary school anymore?
- 21:26SPEAKER_05: Well, not right now, they don't.
- 21:28SPEAKER_05: There.
- 21:29SPEAKER_05: So, the story of the serpentine shambling mound.
- 21:34SPEAKER_05: You wouldn't think the width of a blueberry stem could cause so much trouble, but it did.
- 21:40SPEAKER_05: In the depths of the East Starwood, a few miles north of Halifax Trail, grows a hundred acres of blueberry shrubs.
- 21:47SPEAKER_05: Until they ripen, the berries are ineb inedible, pale green, and hard as stone.
- 21:55SPEAKER_05: By late spring, the berries turn purple and swell to the size of watermelons.
- 22:01SPEAKER_05: And the taste.
- 22:02SPEAKER_05: Imagine the sweetest blueberry you've ever eaten, glazed in honey with just a hint of cinnamon.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: Truly exquisite.
- 22:10SPEAKER_05: At one time, a small tribe of elves and dozens of shambling mounds subsisted on these berries.
- 22:16SPEAKER_05: It was an unusual living arrangement, to say the least, since shambling mounds rarely conjugate with others of their kind, let alone with other species.
- 22:24SPEAKER_05: Thanks to the abundance of quality of the berries, the mounds and elves got along just fine.
- 22:31SPEAKER_05: They ate at their leisure from summer through autumn, then stockpiled berries to get them through the winter, and spring brought a fresh crop.
- 22:38SPEAKER_05: One starless summer night, a koal spiraled from the sky and crashed into the berry field.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: It died on impact, but not even the force of its landing could explain its strange markings and coloration.
- 22:50SPEAKER_05: Both the mounds and the elves refused to examine the creature's remains any closer, convinced that they'd seen too much already.
- 22:57SPEAKER_05: The superstitious elves were afraid of it, and the mounds, who might be tempted to eat it in other circumstances, were suspicious of its strange smell and stuck with the berries.
- 23:07SPEAKER_05: In time the corpse decomposed and was absorbed into the earth.
- 23:11SPEAKER_05: The mysterious coaddle was soon forgotten.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: The following spring, the blueberries blossomed as usual.
- 23:17SPEAKER_05: Days before the berries matured, their stems stretched and broke, and the unripened berries fell to the ground.
- 23:24SPEAKER_05: The elves and mounds watched helplessly as one by one the berries dropped, the thin stems unable to support their weight.
- 23:31SPEAKER_05: Within a month, the entire crop was ruined.
- 23:34SPEAKER_05: The elves examined the bushes and discovered a brown dust covering the stems.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: The decomposing coatle had infected the field with a form of vine blight that had caused the stems to elongate.
- 23:44SPEAKER_05: The elves blamed their leader for the crop loss, and, at the urging of the leader's lieutenant, crushed his skull with a rock.
- 23:50SPEAKER_05: Oh boy.
- 23:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that was one of my favorite parts.
- 23:55SPEAKER_05: The lieutenant, an evil priest who called himself Black Jackal, assumed the leadership of the tribe, he convinced several of the shambling mounds to become allies.
- 24:03SPEAKER_05: The elves and mounds now roamed the Starwood, assaulting innocence in the name of the dark god Talos.
- 24:10SPEAKER_05: The remaining mounds stayed behind, hoping the field would recover.
- 24:14SPEAKER_05: Eventually it did, but not before the impatient mounds ate the old berries.
- 24:18SPEAKER_05: The tainted berries caused the mounds' bodies to stretch until they resembled immense serpents, head and hands on one end, legs on the other.
- 24:27SPEAKER_05: The serpentine shambling mounds still dwell in the area, nesting in mossy trees, guarding their blueberry field from trespassers.
- 24:34unknown: God damn.
- 24:35SPEAKER_05: That's so cool.
- 24:36SPEAKER_05: So that's the entire story.
- 24:39SPEAKER_05: The biggest change with this particular variant, though, is with the special ability.
- 24:44SPEAKER_05: They no longer have the suffocation ability, but now have constriction.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Because why not?
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: They're serpents.
- 24:51SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 24:52SPEAKER_05: It's a normal attack roll used to encoil the victim, and then the victim will suffer 2d4 damage per round unless freed with 60 total points of strength, including the victim strength.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: Jesus Christ.
- 25:06SPEAKER_05: So I'm guessing that would mean everybody trying to pry the serpent apart and adding everyone's strength together to try to get it pried open.
- 25:17SPEAKER_05: But that was just uh That's so cool.
- 25:20SPEAKER_05: That was just a really cool thing, and I was like, yep, can't help it now.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's so cool.
- 25:26SPEAKER_04: Also, Skyrim joke.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:30SPEAKER_04: Skyrim joke.
- 25:31SPEAKER_04: Skyrim joke.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: You just you said the name Talos and Skyrim joke.
- 25:36SPEAKER_04: They've all been done.
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: I just obligatory.
- 25:39SPEAKER_04: Obligatory Sky Joke.
- 25:40SPEAKER_04: Obligatory Skyrim joke.
- 25:42SPEAKER_05: Fucking Talos.
- 25:44SPEAKER_05: Talos the Unerring! Okay.
- 25:46SPEAKER_05: So now we get to what led me here in the first place.
- 25:50SPEAKER_05: The ecology of the Shambling Mound from the Dragon Annual magazine number two from 1997.
- 25:58SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: Very nice.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: Jan Edison.
- 26:01SPEAKER_05: So this article involves the telling of the Shambling Mound through research done by someone named Willowquisp, who was a member of the Monster Hunters Association.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, nice.
- 26:14SPEAKER_05: And this is all being told as they are on their way to slay a shambling mound.
- 26:21SPEAKER_05: Oh boy.
- 26:22SPEAKER_05: Because events happened at the meeting prior, and the leader was like, I don't want to hear it right now.
- 26:28SPEAKER_05: Tell me tomorrow, and that's what they have to do.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: I wonder if they come back from it.
- 26:35SPEAKER_05: Hmm, I hope so.
- 26:37SPEAKER_05: So as they are like on their way, Willowquisp asks Drelix, who is the leader, if he's ready to hear about the shambling mound.
- 26:47SPEAKER_05: Which Drelix replies, Is it really necessary?
- 26:50SPEAKER_05: The Druid leads us to it.
- 26:52SPEAKER_05: We throw a charm plant spell or two at it, chop off its head, and there you go.
- 26:56SPEAKER_05: No fuss, no bother, and no need to hear all about the creature's life history, favorite foods, or mating rituals.
- 27:02SPEAKER_05: Maybe we'll hit it with a thunder wave too.
- 27:05SPEAKER_05: And at this point, Will Quisp is like, well, actually, the brain isn't even located in its head, so you might not want to do that.
- 27:14SPEAKER_05: And Drelix was incredibly surprised and begrudgingly was like, Alright, fine.
- 27:20SPEAKER_05: Tell us.
- 27:21SPEAKER_05: Because his plan was obviously ruined.
- 27:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_04: So that uh WillowQ is the more was waiting for him to say that.
- 27:33SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: Well, actually.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: I love WillowQrisp in this.
- 27:38SPEAKER_04: Like, I I'm with it, but also he was uh he was waiting to be like, well, actually.
- 27:45SPEAKER_04: Well, actually.
- 27:46SPEAKER_05: Actually.
- 27:47SPEAKER_05: So the first thing is finally, how the hell do shampling mounds get created?
- 27:54SPEAKER_04: That's a very good question.
- 27:55SPEAKER_04: I would love to know that, yes.
- 27:57SPEAKER_05: Um, apparently, they are born during intense electrical storms.
- 28:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's why the thunder.
- 28:04SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 28:05SPEAKER_05: A bolt of lightning strikes a patch of rotting vegetation and imbues it with a primal consciousness, an awareness of self, and the ability to alter its shape, move, and to grow.
- 28:18SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 28:19SPEAKER_05: So it gets struck, this weird consciousness kind of forms, and then it starts to pull in all of the vegetation around it and creates this chambling mound.
- 28:31SPEAKER_05: Same.
- 28:32SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 28:34SPEAKER_04: Hey, I mean, that's I mean, you eat vegetables, so I guess you pull in vegetation.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: That's probably about it though.
- 28:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_05: Um, it says it's a mystery as to how exactly this happens, and apparently any attempt to artificially create one using spells such as like lightning strike, chain lightning, call lightning, etc., haven't gone well.
- 28:58SPEAKER_05: Have failed.
- 29:00SPEAKER_05: Completely.
- 29:00SPEAKER_05: They just don't spark this life.
- 29:05SPEAKER_05: Uh one theory is that it requires a bolt of elemental energy from the plane of lightning itself.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: Possibility.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:15SPEAKER_05: Some priests claim that they are created from the gods themselves, which is why they take on a humanoid form when they form.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah, that makes sense.
- 29:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: Um, wherever the lightning strikes is where the brain is created.
- 29:30SPEAKER_05: At this point, it's not an actual brain like you think.
- 29:34SPEAKER_05: It's kind of just like this weird mush consciousness that just kind of like resides there, I guess.
- 29:39SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 29:41SPEAKER_05: And then the vegetation forms around this area of intelligence, this brain, and forms into this humanoid shape.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 29:51SPEAKER_05: All shambling mounds have the same features when created.
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: They have a head, two arms, two legs, and a humanoid-like body.
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 30:01SPEAKER_05: There is one thing that is different between every shambling mound, and that's their facial features.
- 30:09SPEAKER_05: Facial features of a shambling mound will vary greatly, and none will have the same thing.
- 30:17SPEAKER_05: Some won't have any facial features at all.
- 30:19SPEAKER_05: Others will redistribute their vegetation to form the best possible features that they can, which have been noted to include berries or flowers where the eyes would be, large leaves for ears.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: That's nice.
- 30:36SPEAKER_05: Some have been seen with these like twig-like teeth and a beard made of moss.
- 30:43SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's what I mean to that.
- 30:45SPEAKER_05: Digits are usually present on the hands, but not on the feet.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:52SPEAKER_05: Most of them don't even form feet.
- 30:54SPEAKER_05: It's usually just like the long tree-like legs.
- 30:59SPEAKER_05: Or I guess more trunk-like legs.
- 31:01SPEAKER_05: Just the big round, thick ass legs.
- 31:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: It's got thick legs.
- 31:07SPEAKER_05: Damn, she's thick.
- 31:08SPEAKER_05: Uh the body parts are all roughly homogeneous, which is what gives them the ability to regrow parts that have been cut off.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:18SPEAKER_05: Because they're all like made of the same stuff.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:23SPEAKER_05: Uh regrowing a body part takes away from the thick vegetation that protects its brain.
- 31:28SPEAKER_05: It's kind of interesting to note that no matter how many times they have to regrow a limb, as long as they survive, they will stay the same size.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: They don't ever shrink or grow in size.
- 31:41SPEAKER_05: They are the same size they are when they're created.
- 31:46SPEAKER_05: Which can vary, I mean, between like six to eight feet.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:51SPEAKER_05: Um, but cutting off the vegetation and it having to regrow will give it a penalty to its AC.
- 31:59SPEAKER_05: Still using the Thacco system, the penalty is a plus one.
- 32:03SPEAKER_05: So that's still decent.
- 32:04SPEAKER_05: So it gives it an AC of one.
- 32:08SPEAKER_05: That's still decent.
- 32:10SPEAKER_05: And the this is one of the really cool parts is the sensory organs that it has are spread evenly throughout its body.
- 32:19SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 32:20SPEAKER_05: That is interesting.
- 32:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:22SPEAKER_05: They have these weird like plant fibers all over that can pick up sound, which allows them to hear in all directions at once.
- 32:32SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 32:32SPEAKER_05: Love it.
- 32:33SPEAKER_05: So hard to sneak up on one.
- 32:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: Little difficult.
- 32:38SPEAKER_05: They are completely unaffected by loud noises, such as the screams of a shrieker.
- 32:44SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 32:44SPEAKER_05: Alright, alright.
- 32:45SPEAKER_05: So they're unaffected by it, but they still just might be annoyed.
- 32:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:51SPEAKER_05: Um, they can see in all directions at once as well.
- 32:55SPEAKER_05: Fantastic.
- 32:56SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 32:56SPEAKER_05: But their sense of sight is drastically different.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: I can imagine.
- 33:00SPEAKER_05: From like, you know, the common understanding, because they don't have eyes.
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:05SPEAKER_05: What they do is they can actually sense electrical fields rather than visually seeing something.
- 33:13SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 33:13SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 33:14SPEAKER_05: And it's said that it's a well-known fact that living beings generate fields of electricity around them.
- 33:21SPEAKER_05: So this is what the shambling mound senses and can see.
- 33:25SPEAKER_05: Quote unquote.
- 33:26SPEAKER_05: Quote unquote.
- 33:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 33:27SPEAKER_05: Um it says that it's unlikely they can distinguish colors.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 33:33SPEAKER_05: But they can differentiate between light and dark.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: That makes sense.
- 33:39SPEAKER_04: Because light.
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: I don't understand how it's going to be.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, planes follow the sun.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: So.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, that's true.
- 33:46SPEAKER_05: It kind of gave a little description of what it might be like for them seeing, which is basically like seeing a three-dimensional contour image of everything around it.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that kind of reminds me of like those 3D ultrasounds.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, or like what it reminds me of is those um like from that that one part in Prometheus.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: Never seen Prometheus.
- 34:12SPEAKER_04: With the the um like imaging of um like they sent this little robot that flies through this tunnel and it uses lasers to like image the out like the outside of it like remotely or the inside of it remotely.
- 34:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:31SPEAKER_04: So it's like a um I I don't know the word for it, but it sounds really cool.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: I've just never seen the movie.
- 34:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a movie.
- 34:40SPEAKER_04: Um we don't need to talk about my alien opinions here, but yeah, it's it's like um I'm gonna think of the word in like 10 minutes and just like shout it out.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: That's fine.
- 34:51SPEAKER_04: I think I have an idea of what you're talking about, though.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: That's how that's what I think of.
- 34:54SPEAKER_05: So, you know, since they can see in all directions at once, theoretically they could attack someone that is behind them just as easily as a person that's in front of them.
- 35:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:05SPEAKER_05: But it says for whatever reason, they will always turn to face a threat before attacking.
- 35:12SPEAKER_04: They want to see the pretty flowers on their face.
- 35:16SPEAKER_05: It explains that um cold doesn't have an effect on them due to their bodies being made up of already dead and decaying plants.
- 35:24SPEAKER_05: So cold doesn't affect them.
- 35:25SPEAKER_05: That's why they have a resistance to cold.
- 35:29SPEAKER_05: It's not complete immunity, but it is a resistance to it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_05: Um also for that exact reason, they don't actually need sunlight to survive because they're already dead.
- 35:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're m living things made up of dead things.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: Right, kind of like a fungus.
- 35:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: I mean, we're covered in dead things.
- 35:50SPEAKER_04: Like our hair and stuff.
- 35:51SPEAKER_04: Okay, but we're not fungus.
- 35:52SPEAKER_04: I wish I was fungus.
- 35:54SPEAKER_04: Same.
- 35:55SPEAKER_05: And for very obvious reasons, like we stated earlier, they're immune to fire because they're wet.
- 36:01SPEAKER_05: Wet.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:03SPEAKER_05: Like they're dead, but they're wet.
- 36:06SPEAKER_05: Same.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: Um Jesus.
- 36:10SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 36:11SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna remove that or something?
- 36:14SPEAKER_05: I don't know! Okay.
- 36:16SPEAKER_05: We'll find out.
- 36:18SPEAKER_05: It'll be a surprise next week.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: We'll find out together.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 36:24SPEAKER_04: Oh man, that was just an automatic ring.
- 36:32SPEAKER_05: So anyway.
- 36:35SPEAKER_05: So there are these elemental spirits that are called nightshades, or also called wood wooses.
- 36:44SPEAKER_05: Wood wooses.
- 36:46SPEAKER_05: It's W-O-S-E-S.
- 36:48SPEAKER_05: I'm assuming woeses.
- 36:53SPEAKER_05: But they're elemental spirits of like different poisonous plants specifically.
- 36:58SPEAKER_05: Hence nightshades.
- 37:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's cool.
- 37:00SPEAKER_05: Um apparently they can summon a shambling mound once per month in a ritual.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 37:08SPEAKER_04: Great.
- 37:09SPEAKER_04: That's they're gonna send one after us for making fun of their name, probably.
- 37:13SPEAKER_05: You can technically communicate with a shambling mound using speak with plants, but because their intelligence is so low, it's very limited conversation.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: It's uh not exactly riveting.
- 37:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:26SPEAKER_05: Um, they have no language of their own, and they actually have no ability to make any sort of vocalization because they don't have vocal cords.
- 37:35SPEAKER_05: Oh, right.
- 37:35SPEAKER_05: I mean they're they're plants.
- 37:37SPEAKER_05: So they can't really make any noise like that.
- 37:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:42SPEAKER_05: Uh some spells apparently have unusual effects on a shambling mound.
- 37:47SPEAKER_05: Uh what kind of unusual effects?
- 37:50SPEAKER_05: Um, transmute mud to rock, for instance, because they do consist of mud and various other plants and what swampy stuff, yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_05: Uh, can actually paralyze one of them for one d4 rounds and causes two d8 damage to it.
- 38:10SPEAKER_05: Cool.
- 38:11SPEAKER_04: I feel like that's uh that would be like uh a really clever like application of that spell.
- 38:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:19SPEAKER_05: It would be.
- 38:20SPEAKER_05: It did state that that can only be done once because after that it has no more mud in it to turn to stone.
- 38:26SPEAKER_04: So I feel like that's maybe one.
- 38:29SPEAKER_04: I feel like that's maybe something that happened to someone in like first edition that like their magic the DMs, like the magic user was arguing with the DM that it's like, well, it's covered in mud, and they were like, you have a point.
- 38:44SPEAKER_04: So then they like added that in in the ecology article.
- 38:47SPEAKER_04: That's that's speculation, but I feel like that I enjoyed that speculation.
- 38:50SPEAKER_04: It that sounds like uh something that someone who's more clever than I am would come up with.
- 38:56SPEAKER_05: Uh part water spell will cause all the water soaked into its like plant mass to flow out of its side.
- 39:03SPEAKER_05: Holy shit.
- 39:04SPEAKER_05: It doesn't cause initial damage, but it does make it vulnerable to fire.
- 39:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah, because it's completely dehydrated.
- 39:11SPEAKER_05: So it'll take half damage on a failed save or none at all on a successful one.
- 39:16SPEAKER_05: So you can use that to actually cause it to take damage from fire.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Uh obligatory Avatar Last Airbender reference.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: This whole time I've been thinking about the one foggy uh swamp bender who bent the vines to make himself a little and had the little wood mask.
- 39:33SPEAKER_04: He is a shambling mound.
- 39:36SPEAKER_04: But a good one.
- 39:37SPEAKER_04: But a good one.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: He's a shambling mound cosplayer.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: So um obligatory avatar last airbender reference.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: Naturally.
- 39:45SPEAKER_04: We have to.
- 39:45SPEAKER_04: Got a meter quota.
- 39:47SPEAKER_05: They don't grow naturally with age.
- 39:50SPEAKER_05: So lightning is the only way that any of them can grow larger.
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 39:55SPEAKER_05: They don't need to sleep, but they will often spend hours just immersed in like their elements.
- 40:02SPEAKER_05: Whether they need to be healed or not, they will just enjoy it.
- 40:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:07SPEAKER_05: I mean, sometimes you just gotta go lay down in the swamp.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: Um they do have a very heavy odor of decay that surrounds them.
- 40:16SPEAKER_05: In swamps, this helps them hide, but in other areas, like a cave or something, the smell will usually give them away.
- 40:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 40:25SPEAKER_05: You shouldn't be smelling that strong of a decay smell.
- 40:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like rotten vegetables and shit.
- 40:30SPEAKER_05: Um, fungus and mold are commonly found growing on a shambling mound.
- 40:36SPEAKER_05: And they're often found to be like a symbiotic partner with the mound that they grow on.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_05: So they don't actively try to get rid of them, they just kind of chill there.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 40:50SPEAKER_04: Um, imagine one that's covered in mold and it's all fuzzy.
- 40:54SPEAKER_04: That's kind of cute.
- 40:55SPEAKER_04: It is getting I'm making these guys out to be like a lot cuter in my head because I don't find them threatening.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: Because we thrashed that one so bad that I'm just like, aww, this cute little cute little guy.
- 41:07SPEAKER_05: Um, any of the fungus that's like dangerous, like the ones that cause the parasite uh cordyceps.
- 41:17SPEAKER_05: Anything like that won't affect the shambling mound.
- 41:19SPEAKER_05: It'll just grow extra sprouts on the mound, and so they have the ability to infect anything they come in contact with, but it won't infect the mound itself.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: So a mycanid could not do much to one of these guys, let's say.
- 41:35SPEAKER_04: Probably not.
- 41:37SPEAKER_04: Like the re-an well the reanimator spores.
- 41:43SPEAKER_05: Hmm, because it's uh I believe the reanimator spores specifically are for like humanoid corpses, and this is not a humanoid.
- 41:52SPEAKER_05: It has no like control center to take over, so I don't think that would work.
- 41:58SPEAKER_05: The different spore effects might, like the other different ones, but that would specifically the reanimator spores might not.
- 42:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I would say because it's it and it does also exist in that weird gray area of dead but alive.
- 42:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 42:11SPEAKER_04: Like it's an alive thing.
- 42:13SPEAKER_04: I guess, yeah, because it's like control center, so to speak, is alive.
- 42:17SPEAKER_04: But its mass is dead, so it probably wouldn't work.
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: Um, I'm gonna apologize ahead of time uh to you, Taylor, for this next part.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 42:29SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 42:30SPEAKER_05: So they are also often homes to various forms of like animal life.
- 42:35SPEAKER_05: Uh, some of them are harmless, but others can actually like add more danger to fighting a creature because they can consist of spiders, centipedes, rot grubs, throat leeches, earseekers, and giant ticks.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: I hate it.
- 42:52SPEAKER_04: All of Oh, I really don't like that last one.
- 42:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_05: I don't like ticks.
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: And when being smothered into the body of a shambling mound, the victim can also be attacked by any animals that are living inside of it.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: Oh, don't like that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: Scorpio.
- 43:07SPEAKER_05: So you could be suffocating and then being bitten by spiders or giant ticks, and don't like that.
- 43:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, I hate that.
- 43:16SPEAKER_04: Your party like wrenches you out and they see you like covered in like ticks and shit, and they're like, bye.
- 43:22SPEAKER_04: Maybe put them back.
- 43:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, let's just put them back in there.
- 43:25SPEAKER_04: I'm good.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: Oh man.
- 43:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: I was like, ooh, that's an added thing I didn't know about.
- 43:31SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's NSC.
- 43:33SPEAKER_05: They are completely sexless and don't reproduce ever at all.
- 43:38SPEAKER_05: Good.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:42SPEAKER_05: They are also effectively immortal.
- 43:45SPEAKER_05: Less good.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: Since they don't age, they don't die unless they're killed.
- 43:52SPEAKER_05: Uh I had a feeling.
- 43:53SPEAKER_05: They can live forever if they're never killed.
- 43:56SPEAKER_05: And as long as wherever they're at can sustain their.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: Resource needs, then they can literally just live forever.
- 44:05SPEAKER_04: Well, but then they would they would die if you dropped it in like a desert, right?
- 44:09SPEAKER_05: Uh yes, because it has nothing to feed on.
- 44:12SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 44:12SPEAKER_05: Not enough to feed on, and in a desert there would be no way for it to like regenerate any lost moisture.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:20SPEAKER_04: Does it like shrivel up then?
- 44:22SPEAKER_04: I guess.
- 44:23unknown: Yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_04: If you were to drop it in a desert, I guess it would just like shrivel up.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: Leave this big nasty just hunk of flesh.
- 44:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, in the middle of the desert.
- 44:37SPEAKER_05: That's kind of sad.
- 44:38SPEAKER_05: Um, so it did explain a little bit more on how exactly they feed.
- 44:45SPEAKER_05: I say a little bit more, not much.
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: So naturally.
- 44:49SPEAKER_05: They use a network of roots and tendrils that are located like throughout their entire bodies.
- 44:55SPEAKER_05: And they can actually like feed on anything from any part of its body, so it wouldn't be unusual to see one like eating something on like its chest area.
- 45:07SPEAKER_05: But that's again all it really says.
- 45:10SPEAKER_05: So I can only guess it like slowly maybe just like decays the body or something.
- 45:18SPEAKER_04: Or like it's like, yeah, maybe.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: Also, it just like sits its butt down and some swamp is just eating through its butt.
- 45:26SPEAKER_04: That's immediately where my mind went, because I'm 12 years old.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: Uh um, it noted that given how they are created, it is possible that they existed on the planet much longer than any other intelligent humanoid race.
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: That's probably true.
- 45:42SPEAKER_05: And noted Definitely upsetting an archaeolog wow.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: Archaeological archaeological dig that unearthed records of a god worshipped by a tribe of savages.
- 45:54SPEAKER_05: The description of the god and the ceremonies performed by the savages leads the archaeologist to believe that the god was actually a shambling mound, worshipped as the god of death, decay, and disease.
- 46:06SPEAKER_05: And was often fed via human sacrifice to appease its anger.
- 46:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, cool.
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: Naturally.
- 46:15SPEAKER_04: Cool, right?
- 46:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, I forgot that they eat animals and stuff too.
- 46:20SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 46:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:21SPEAKER_04: Animals, plants, humans.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: For some reason, I thought they were just like peacefully wandering around the swamp eating plants.
- 46:29SPEAKER_05: Not quite.
- 46:30SPEAKER_04: I forgot that they eat living things.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: Or not plants are alive, but you know.
- 46:35SPEAKER_04: Like sentient things.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:38SPEAKER_05: But that's all from the ecology of it's actually really funny to read because there's a lot of interjections from Drelix like being a smart ass.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Nice, nice.
- 46:51SPEAKER_05: I will also note that the end of it does actually describe what happened to them when they found the shambling mound.
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: And pretty much what happened was Drelix only listened to half of what WillQisp said, saw the Shambling Mound, ran in, attacked it, got infected by a certain type of spore from the fungus that grows on it.
- 47:14SPEAKER_05: They had to put him in a stasis to stop him from dying, and fled back to the city to heal him, where he was then mad that they ran away instead of killing it.
- 47:27SPEAKER_04: Man, that's such a You saved my life, but you guys didn't get the job done.
- 47:33SPEAKER_04: Fuck you, man.
- 47:34SPEAKER_05: Oh, and also he immediately grew mushrooms out of his nose when he inhaled the spores.
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 47:42SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 47:44SPEAKER_05: Uh we're gonna take our break and then we will continue on through third, fourth, and fifth edition.
- 47:50SPEAKER_05: There's not a whole lot left, so quick break, and then back to We got a top heavy boy, just like shambling mound.
- 47:56SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 47:57SPEAKER_05: We got a top heavy boy.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 47:59SPEAKER_05: But break time.
- 48:02SPEAKER_05: Hey everybody.
- 48:04SPEAKER_05: Thank you so much for listening to the Shambling Mounds episode.
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 48:09SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: Thanks.
- 48:10SPEAKER_03: We didn't plan that.
- 48:12SPEAKER_03: It was just a beautiful moment.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: It just happens.
- 48:14SPEAKER_05: It does happen.

- 48:56SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 48:57SPEAKER_05: So and the fact that they don't do shipping charges for however much you order, it's just a flat shipping fee, is also pretty nice.
- 49:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:05SPEAKER_05: Is that international too?
- 49:07SPEAKER_05: Uh I have no idea.
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: Uh it may or may not be international.
- 49:10SPEAKER_03: We forgot to check.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 49:12SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_05: Um not sure about that one.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: So if you're international, your uh mileage may vary, but yeah, which that that sucks.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: Uh we will check on that.
- 49:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, as I say, we're we're we're dumb Americans.

- 49:57SPEAKER_04: We have a$5 tier where you can read our notes.
- 50:02SPEAKER_05: And all of the grammatical mistakes we make when typing them up when we're tired.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: And sometimes just little notes for myself, like, Taylor, it's pronounced like this.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: Please don't stutter your way through it.
- 50:13SPEAKER_04: See, I don't even try that because I know I'm gonna mess it up anyway.
- 50:17SPEAKER_04: Same.
- 50:18SPEAKER_03: Um, so we mentioned a few weeks ago that during the little bit of a lull, we all got together and managed to record some uh stuff and a bunch of stuff in advance that is still in progress.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: And I can uh attest it will be going up soon.
- 50:35SPEAKER_03: Again, you can get more um more notifications for that for projectile dysfunction.

- 51:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna say who.
- 51:10SPEAKER_04: No, I really I don't know.
- 51:12SPEAKER_04: Ours.
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: We're mediocre.
- 51:17SPEAKER_03: We're we're listening enough with the self-roast.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: Uh you get notifications when we go live.
- 51:23SPEAKER_03: Um, sometimes on those apps they have little ratings and review spots, and we would really appreciate it if you could help us out by just dropping a little rating.
- 51:31SPEAKER_05: Yes, that would be so great.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: And most importantly, spread the word.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: Tell your friends.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: I say it, well, we take turns saying it.
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: And the ad break every single ad break and at the end of every single episode, because it helps so much, and we're just so appreciative of you guys.
- 51:49SPEAKER_05: Yes, it helps out greatly.
- 51:51SPEAKER_05: So please continue to just spread the word and tell your friends about it.
- 51:56SPEAKER_05: Share us.
- 51:57SPEAKER_05: It's just it we're we're really grateful.
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: We're also really grateful to Alexander Nakarata for our theme song, Blacksmith.
- 52:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: Thank you, Alexander.
- 52:06SPEAKER_03: Nakarata.
- 52:07SPEAKER_03: It's it felt so wrong not to say his full name.
- 52:10SPEAKER_03: But with that respectful.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Back to the podcast.
- 52:14SPEAKER_03: Back to the mounds.
- 52:15SPEAKER_05: The shambling mounds.
- 52:17SPEAKER_03: Ooh.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: Alright, and you uh definitely yeah, you made the fourth edition face earlier, too.
- 52:25SPEAKER_04: So um Travis makes a face and does a gesture when he starts to get mad or disappointed while we're reading fourth edition.
- 52:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, which usually happens in fourth edition, so I want to know what actually happens in fourth edition.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: I know we have to get through third edition first, but I just wanted to point out that you do that face.
- 52:43SPEAKER_05: I do do that face.
- 52:45SPEAKER_05: So I just didn't know from the monster manual one and monster manual for 3.5, which is 2000, 2003, respectively, nothing really changes between the two.
- 52:57SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 52:58SPEAKER_05: Because they're kind of the same edition.
- 53:00SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 53:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:01SPEAKER_04: A lot of the time the the especially the actual description part of the uh description is like copied.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: And some like sometimes at most he gets like a language update.
- 53:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, precisely.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: So I mean, like, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 53:18SPEAKER_05: There are some notable changes from previous editions, mostly because now we're into the system that we're all mostly used to by now.
- 53:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 53:28SPEAKER_05: Um, just like with its health, it now has 8d8 plus 24 uh hit points.
- 53:35SPEAKER_05: It has a speed of 20 for both land and water.
- 53:38SPEAKER_05: Okay, its AC is 20.
- 53:41SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 53:42SPEAKER_05: Um, they are considered large creatures, so they take up their 10-foot uh radius with a 10-foot reach.
- 53:49SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 53:50SPEAKER_05: Um, they're no longer completely immune to fire.
- 53:53SPEAKER_05: They are, however, resistant of 10 to fire.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: That's better.
- 53:57SPEAKER_05: So they will say that.
- 53:59SPEAKER_05: They can be damaged by fire, it's just less effective.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: I feel like that makes sense.
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: Because like even though they're like wet, you can still you know what I mean?
- 54:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: It makes sense that that's a DR instead of a straight immunity.
- 54:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it can it'll still like scorch and burn some parts, but it won't do that.
- 54:19SPEAKER_04: That initial yeah, yeah.
- 54:21SPEAKER_04: It wouldn't be like if it was an uh alive and very dry plant creature.
- 54:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:29SPEAKER_04: Because a lot of time you see that and you think, oh, grass type, set it on fire.
- 54:33SPEAKER_04: This isn't Pokemon, but you know what I mean.
- 54:35SPEAKER_05: I mean it is kind of that idea, though.
- 54:38SPEAKER_05: Virtually the same idea though.
- 54:40SPEAKER_05: Um one of the things that they did add is how much they weigh.
- 54:44SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 54:45SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 54:46SPEAKER_05: Which is up to 3,800 pounds.
- 54:50SPEAKER_05: Apparently.
- 54:51SPEAKER_04: That's a that's a big boy.
- 54:53SPEAKER_04: That is a big boy.
- 54:54SPEAKER_05: That is a big boy.
- 54:55SPEAKER_04: That's a lot of massive dead stuff.
- 55:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: You know, that weirdly, that doesn't surprise me.
- 55:05SPEAKER_04: Like, that's a big number, but for some reason that doesn't like a shocking number.
- 55:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 55:11SPEAKER_04: Um like 69 or 666.
- 55:13SPEAKER_04: Those are shocking numbers.
- 55:15SPEAKER_05: The uh their body girth is now just a solid like eight feet instead of six.
- 55:22SPEAKER_04: God.
- 55:23SPEAKER_04: I hate that word so much.
- 55:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:26SPEAKER_05: Girthy boys.
- 55:27SPEAKER_04: Girthy boys.
- 55:29SPEAKER_04: Girsie's are the worst.
- 55:32SPEAKER_04: See, we said it and immediately regretted it.
- 55:34SPEAKER_05: Yep, happens a lot.
- 55:36SPEAKER_04: Also, that's that really is um wide.
- 55:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 55:41SPEAKER_05: That's a wide it's I mean, yeah, eight feet around, like yeah, it's a big boy.
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: Um, they don't have the suffocate ability now, it's just a constrict ability.
- 55:53SPEAKER_04: Oh, kind of like the serpentine ones.
- 55:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it deals 2d6 plus 7 points of damage after they make a successful grapple check after hitting with both clubby arms.
- 56:06SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 56:06SPEAKER_04: Has flashbacks to the 3.5 and Pathfinder grapple rules.
- 56:13SPEAKER_04: I don't even want to go there.
- 56:15SPEAKER_04: Oh man.
- 56:16SPEAKER_04: Um moment of silence.
- 56:18SPEAKER_05: Rip.
- 56:19SPEAKER_05: Electricity no longer increases their hit dice or size permanently, but now it will grant a temporary 1d4 points of constitution, which it then loses at a rate of one point per hour.
- 56:36SPEAKER_05: So it'll increase their health temporarily, but not permanently.
- 56:42SPEAKER_04: I I don't I don't like that idea.
- 56:43SPEAKER_05: I wasn't quite sure how I felt about that change either, honestly.
- 56:47SPEAKER_04: I like the idea of if they're exposed to lightning, they can just essentially grow in perpetuity.
- 56:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 56:54SPEAKER_04: I really like that idea personally.
- 56:57SPEAKER_04: And plus, like it it it was stated before that they don't gain or lose mass in any kind of meaningful way outside of gaining it from the lightning.
- 57:10SPEAKER_04: So I don't know how they lose it now, if that makes sense.
- 57:13SPEAKER_05: Then they won't lose it.
- 57:17SPEAKER_05: They will just stay the same size.
- 57:19SPEAKER_04: Oh well, that's that's like the energy, I guess.
- 57:21SPEAKER_05: They just lose constitution, which in this case would be health.
- 57:25SPEAKER_04: Like it would give them an extra like four points of health, but I just like the idea of one being able to grow in perpetuity and stay that size.
- 57:34SPEAKER_04: Oh, I do too.
- 57:35SPEAKER_04: Because of lightning.
- 57:36SPEAKER_04: So, you know.
- 57:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: So now we're gonna get to fourth edition.
- 57:42SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 57:42SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 57:43SPEAKER_05: From their monster manual.
- 57:45SPEAKER_05: And oh, they're actually in it?
- 57:47SPEAKER_05: They are.
- 57:47SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 57:48SPEAKER_05: Surprisingly, I actually don't totally hate the changes they made to the Shambling Mountain 4th edition.
- 57:54SPEAKER_04: Oh, you're sick.
- 57:55SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 57:56SPEAKER_04: I might be.
- 57:57SPEAKER_04: Someone, someone get a someone grab a calendar, write it down.
- 58:01SPEAKER_05: Like, I'm still not a big fan of, you know, take everything from previous editions and delete it.
- 58:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:09SPEAKER_05: But what they did to them isn't actually that bad.
- 58:12SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 58:13SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 58:14SPEAKER_05: Um, first of all, they have uh health just permanently set at 120.
- 58:20SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 58:21SPEAKER_05: And these are for the regular shambling mounds.
- 58:24SPEAKER_05: There is a second variant for fourth edition.
- 58:27SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 58:28SPEAKER_04: I'm familiar with that, that kind of thing that they like to do.
- 58:31SPEAKER_05: That seems to be a thing they do for every monster in the manual, is there's at least one other variants.
- 58:38SPEAKER_04: Variant variant that the only thing that's different about it is ever only meaningful in combat.
- 58:43SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 58:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 58:45SPEAKER_05: Uh their AC is up to 21.
- 58:48SPEAKER_05: They have a regeneration of five, which I've also noticed as a thing in 4th edition that they love to give monsters regeneration for like no reason.
- 59:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:00SPEAKER_04: I will say for the shambling mounds, I feel like there are environments where that could make sense for them to regenerate.
- 59:07SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 59:07SPEAKER_04: Like if you're fighting them in a swamp, they're standing on top of their food.
- 59:12SPEAKER_04: That makes sense that they would regenerate.
- 59:13SPEAKER_04: But 4th edition does love to do that.
- 59:15SPEAKER_04: Just randomly.
- 59:17SPEAKER_05: Which that's like the one reason why I'm not terribly upset at that, is because, like, okay, it does make sense depending on for fourth edition.
- 59:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, depending on where you're fighting it.
- 59:27SPEAKER_04: Okay, that's fine.
- 59:27SPEAKER_04: And like a shambling mound, that makes more sense to me than a lot of other things that just seem to be randomly given regeneration.
- 59:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 59:34SPEAKER_04: No reason.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm not even going to tr attempt to think of anything here, but like, I mean, fourth edition just seem to want to prolong fights, but I will say that makes sense.
- 59:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and this next part isn't going to further help the thought of they just want to prolong fights.
- 59:53SPEAKER_05: Okay, I'm glad I stated that then.
- 59:55SPEAKER_05: Oh boy, here we go.
- 59:57SPEAKER_05: So not only are they immune to lightning, but now they have a special ability called lightning affinity.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_05: Which instead of gaining points in constitution or gaining hit dice, now as an immediate reaction when being hit by any lightning attack, they immediately regain 10 hit points.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_05: Which I'm also not really mad about considering how they're created.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_04: That's fair.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: That makes sense.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_04: They absorb lightning if we're using some video game terminal.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_04: I see video game terminology.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_05: I'm again still not like totally on board because they pretty much got rid of everything the mound originally was.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_03: Right, in favor of this monstrosity.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but I mean I mean they were already kind of losing me in third edition anyway, so you know.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_05: Uh their constrict ability has been changed again to something called an enveloping double attack.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_05: Which is pretty much the same thing.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_05: They make two basic attacks if they both hit the same target.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_05: The shambling mound then makes a secondary attack versus the target, which is apparently at a plus twelve versus a fortitude save from the target.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_04: So it's like a contest.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_04: Pretty much.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_04: Okay, gotcha.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_05: On a failed save, the creature is pulled into the shambling mound space and restrained.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_05: While it's restrained, no creature on the outside has any line of sight or line of effect on it.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_05: You can't see them, you can't do anything.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_05: They can envelop up to two creatures at a time.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, them in their base.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_05: Big big five.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_05: And at the start of each round, the target takes 10 damage and the shambling mound regains 10 hit points.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_04: So it's this is that feeding on this is that boss fight where they they steal one of your characters and drain health from them.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_04: This is the uh Rahu, I think it was from Digital Vasaga, and the one like fight that's in every Final Fantasy game.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_05: So like that I also don't really know how I feel because you have the regeneration of five every ROM already.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_05: They have the ability to gain 10 hit points if they're hit with lightning, and now they have the ability to gain 10 more hit points by devouring something.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: I will say, I I don't this is weird.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_04: I hate for me to say this for fourth edition.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_04: I hate what that does for combat, but I do think that falls in line with lore on them.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_05: And that's why it's so like on the fence because it falls in line with the lore, but the combat is just like I could imagine being in that fight and it would just be a total fucking slog.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, wait, we would actually probably own it again.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_04: But like if not, that would be a total fucking slog.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_04: Also, nitpick.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_04: I either really hate or really love the names that fourth edition has for like abilities and stuff.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_04: And I really hate the ones from the shambling map.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_04: Anyway, yeah.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: That's a nitpick.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_04: That's a personal nitpick, and I will own that that's a nitpick, but I usually hate them.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: Own it.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: It's I agree.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_04: Also, like it's not like I'm saying anything unpopular over here ever about 4th edition.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_05: So the variant that they have is called the Storm Rage Shambler.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_05: Oh boy.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_05: Which is a beefed up version of a normal shambling mound.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_05: Its HP is 238.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_05: Great.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_05: It has a region of 10 instead of five.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_05: Oh, that's a lot.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_05: Its AC is 25.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's a lot.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_04: The fourth edition has big numbers too.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_05: So it has a lightning aura.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_05: Of course it does.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_05: Which any enemy that's fucking auras.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_05: Uh no, I agree.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_05: Any enemy that enters or starts their turn in the aura takes five lightning damage.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_04: Ah, okay.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_05: They do not have the envelope ability now, but instead they have two other attacks.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_05: They have tendrils, which are more just kind of like their normal clubbing attacks.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_05: But they do 1d8 plus 5 plus 1d8 lightning damage.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_05: Ooh.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_05: That's a lot.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_05: And while bloodied, it deals an extra 5 lightning damage on top of that.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_05: And then they have.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_05: This one I just don't.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_04: This is the second fourth edition face that Travis makes.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_05: They have lightning blast.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_05: Which is a short-range blast that deals 3d8 plus 6 lightning damage.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_05: On a miss, it deals half damage, which is a miss is considered versus a reflex save.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_05: Mm-hmm.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_05: Okay, alright.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_05: I just I understand where they're going with it, but at no point has a shambling mound ever had intelligence enough to cast a fucking spell.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_04: Okay, I will say I don't hate the idea of maybe certain shambling mounds that maybe you could you could invent a specific circumstance where some would maybe have something similar to that as a spell like ability.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_04: No, I'm hate-I don't I don't hate that.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_04: I don't hate the idea of some shambling mounds having an especially powerful affinity with lightning to be able to use that as a spell like ability in that way.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: But I hate that fourth edition takes something like that and makes it a quote unquote variant that has like no implications in the lore whatsoever.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_04: Like, oh hey, this is the different type of shambling mound.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_04: They can Shoe lightning for some reason.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_04: Why?
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_04: It doesn't make sense.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_05: Tell me why.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_05: Now, at least they were smart enough in this particular instance where they do have the lightning affinity where they will heal by being hit by lightning, but they cannot damage themselves in order to heal.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_03: Could you imagine?
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_03: Okay, we talked about prolonging fights.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_03: Could you imagine?
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_03: That would never end.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Just ever end.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_04: Cast lightning.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: Oh, I'm healed.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_04: You would you would run into schedule conflicts with your DD group that would stop you from playing entirely before you would finish that fight.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_04: Like one of your friends would finish college and get a new job, and you'd have to stop playing before you'd finish that fight.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_03: Legitimately.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_03: That is actually one of the worst ideas I could ever think of.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_03: Like I'm really glad they included someone thought of that.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_05: They cannot damage themselves with their lightning to heal themselves.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_04: Like part way through, somebody was like, oh wait, guys.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: Wait, this is definitely something some smart ass would do.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_03: We have to fix it.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_04: Or some smart ass did that in playtesting and they were like, we need to put a stop to that right now.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_04: So yep, now we're stopping this.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_05: And that's it for fourth edition.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_05: Yay.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_05: Not as bad as previous items, but still not a not a terribly big thing.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_04: Well, and I feel like we kept our we kept our personal scathing.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_04: Opinions to ourselves.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, to to a minimum.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_04: Because I feel like some of the wow, I sound so on my high horse, but I feel like a lot of the problems I have with fourth edition are problems that I feel like are objective problems, not just things I don't like.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_03: No, I I agree.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_04: Like I I know I'm so objective up here on my objective high horse, but I really do like those are objective.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean I think.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_04: Sips my tea.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_05: So uh going to the final entry for fifth edition and their monster manual, they are a bit more beefy.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_05: They have 16 d10 plus 48 health.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_03: Ooh, that's all that's a beefy boy.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_05: But their AC has been reduced to 15.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_05: Okay, I'll accept it.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_05: Uh they have damage resistance to cold and fire and immunity to lightning.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_05: So still going with the whole, not completely immune to fire, but they are still immune to lightning.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_05: Because of the fact that, you know, they can't see or hear or they don't need to sleep, they are immune to being blinded, deafened, or exhausted.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_05: Uh now it gives them the blind sight of 60 feet, and then they are blind past that radius.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_04: Okay, with it.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_05: So that also kind of follows.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_05: Kind of tracks.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that tracks.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_05: Um, they have the ability light absorption, which is just when they are hit by lightning damage, it takes no damage and regains a number of hit points equal to the lightning damage dealt.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_04: Okay, I was about to be a smart ass and be like light absorption, also known as photosynthesis.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_04: But no.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, no.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_04: Dead plants don't photosynthesize.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_05: Turns out.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_05: Turns out.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_05: But instead of it being like a base number of healing damage.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_05: Heal by whatever the damage would have been.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_05: That makes sense.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_05: Which I am honestly on the fence about that one too.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_04: Like I mean, that that see, I accepted that in my brain because that falls in line with like Pokemon rules.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_03: Honestly.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_04: Well, no, she's not.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm ready to accept them in things that aren't Pokemon, and then in Pokemon, I am ready to argue a lot of Pokemon rules.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_05: Um, I realize that I never mentioned this before, but that's kind of because it like should be obvious.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_05: But in any edition, they are either neutral or unaligned.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_05: They have no alignment, pretty much.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean they're a hunk of dead plant matter.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, what alignment's that gonna be.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: I'm kind of surprised that they didn't take a hard left turn in fourth edition and do something crazy.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_04: Nope, they just left them as unaligned.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_04: You know what?
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_04: I'll accept it.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_03: I I can respect that.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_05: Uh same as before with like the two attacks.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_05: They hit the same creature, both of them they can then use engulf.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_05: So, like, their special ability here changes like every edition.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, evidently.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_05: Uh, an engulf creature is blinded, restrained, and unable to breathe.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_05: The creature must make a constitution saving throw at the start of each of the mound turns, or it takes two d8 plus four bludgeoning damage because it's being like crushed.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_05: And they can only engulf one creature at a time.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_05: So you can't do two, but you can do one.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_04: I mean, I can I I honestly could accept that either way.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_04: I feel like that could go based on the size of the mound, even.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_04: Not I mean, I'm not saying that it does in fifth edition rules, I'm just saying logistically, in my brain, it would make sense maybe that a really big shambling man, like one of those crazy 20 hit die ones, yeah, could engulf multiple things.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_04: That's that makes sense.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_05: And it is important to note that in order to engulf or restrain from previous editions too, the creature has to be medium or smaller.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_04: The same size category.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_04: Gotcha.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_05: Uh as far as the creation goes in fifth edition, they did add one extra way of possible creation.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_05: Which was from Fey Magic.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_05: Uh yes.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_05: It says that they can result from a phenomenon in which lightning or fee magic invigorates an otherwise ordinary swamp plant.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_04: Okay, fair.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_05: Their instinct that drives them to like move and feed is a root stem.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_05: Or it's found in the root stem.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_05: Which basically is like what's inside their chest, like buried in them.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_05: That's the brain.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_05: Now is this root stem is now the brain.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_05: So they included the intelligence being a plant part.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_05: Like the part that got invigorated is now just the root stem of this entire shambling mound.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_05: Um, then because of that, this is actually really fucking cool.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_05: If a shambling mound faces defeat before an overwhelming foe, the root stem can actually feign death, collapsing the remains of the shambling mound.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_05: And if it's not subsequently killed, the root stem will bed down into the remains of the shambling mound.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_05: To slowly regrow its full body back.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_04: Ha ha.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, I like that.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's sort of like um not a phylactery exactly, but like if you don't know that you need to go in there and get that thing, then you could just be like, oh, it's dead, it's lying down, we killed it.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_04: Yay! It just collapsed.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_05: We win! Mm-hmm.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_04: And then the sh and then the shambling mound finds you like two years later and knocks down the door of the tavern you and your friends are in, and it's like, I'm back, bitch.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_05: Who are you?
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, also, uh just a thought that I had at the very beginning of this episode.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_04: Imagine lightning striking your compost pile.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_04: And it's like a shambling mound made out of like banana peels and stuff.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, I can definitely see that being used in like a weird homebrew kind of way.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_04: Or like a yeah.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_05: Like if you wanted to, I'm just gonna throw this out as a weird example.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_05: Homebrew a campaign in the setting of the fairly odd parents.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, yes.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_04: Okay, but actually.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_04: Do you want that?
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_04: But actually, that could be yeah, because then you could like homebrew all the racial characteristics for like the fairies.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_04: Jorgen Punch Strangle.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_04: And the Pixies.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_05: And the right.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_05: And on that note, that is all the information I have for shambling mounds.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_05: We made it through even with the little story time.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_04: Hey, you know what?
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_04: I enjoy story time.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's one of my they're big friends.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_04: They are big friends.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_04: Well, they're not friends.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_04: They will try to eat you.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they're not friends.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_05: They they will eat you.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_04: I just think they're neat.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_04: I just I know that that was not how you wanted that fight to go.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_04: But I think just because of that fight, I cannot take them seriously as a threat.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_04: So I'm just like, oh, big buddy.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_05: Alright, I'm gonna have to remedy that in our current campaign.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_03: Please do not add.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_04: Well, now we're ready for it, is the problem.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_05: Both are you though?
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_04: Lewin's up talking smack! Oh, cute little guy.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_04: Aww.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_04: I'm patting the miniature on his little head.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_04: His little unpainted head.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if you wanna if you wanna put a shambling man in our campaign, you have to paint that first.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_05: That's fine.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_05: You're a long ways away from fighting one anyway, because they are much too powerful.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_05: It would kill you in like one swing.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're big they're big and strong.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_05: I don't even remember, but their challenge rating is something pretty far up there.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, because you said they're beefy in fifth, they're real beefy in fifth edition.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_04: They are.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_05: Or at least they're supposed to be.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_03: Well, anyway.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_03: Thank you guys so much for listening.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_03: Uh roast Travis.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_03: In parts.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, you can uh you can catch us each week roasting Travis.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_04: Someone's getting roasted.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_03: And here pretty soon you're gonna be able to catch us twice a week roasting Travis.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_04: Someone's always getting roasted, and it's not the shambling mound, apparently.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_04: Also, you can follow us on our social media platforms for A more roasting, and also we should post a picture of this guy, because this is a really cool mini.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and also you should shame Travis for not painting him.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_03: He deserves it.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_03: Look at him.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_04: Look into his his eyes.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_05: He doesn't have eyes.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_05: I mean, the mushrooms are acting as his eyes.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_03: Uh, while you're at it, uh, spread the word to your friends.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_03: Uh, let them know about shambling mounds and how terrifying they are.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_04: Have you heard of shambling mounds?
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_03: I kind of interested you in talking about our Lord and Savior shambling mounds.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's like that one tribe that worshipped them.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_05: Oh god.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_05: There was indeed that one tribe.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_04: I'd worship them.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_04: I doubt they went door to door like that, though.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_04: They should have.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_05: If uh if you guys do wish to further roast me and also suggest a topic for us.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_04: Into painting the mini.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_05: Or yeah, topics.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_05: Into painting a mini.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, that's important too.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we do take those there.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_05: Uh, you can email us at dungeonpedia.podcast at gmail.com.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_03: And with that, thank you all once again for listening, and we'll catch you next week with another roast here on Dungeonpedia.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_03: Hopefully, not every roast of you.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_04: I mean, sometimes it's a roast of me.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_04: It's just a big old roast.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_04: Bring your forks, everybody.
