- 3:01let's welcome and our good friend Hannah Gardner from the Kenalis Charlesty Main Association
- 3:05with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah, Good morning,
- 3:08welcome to the show. Good morning. How are you. I'm doing
- 3:13fine, happy early Saint Patrick's day. You know, yesterday I had the
- 3:17chance to sit in for a bit with Dave Weekly on the state wide show
- 3:22of Metro News Hotlight, and and a name dropped you there a little bit.
- 3:25Your talents are now going to go state wide. You realize that,
- 3:29right, I mean, everybody's demanding for for more, Hannah, you realize
- 3:32that right. Well, I am very honored. All right. I want
- 3:38to get to our pet of the week, and again has always picture posted
- 3:43on my social media. It's a dog named Menthara. Now you sent me,
- 3:46as you always do, the text the night before with all the details
- 3:50on Menhara. And you said Menthara. The dog's name is based on a
- 3:55video game. And I am woefully old, Hannah. So if it's not
- 4:00like pac Man, I don't know what you're talking about. You obviously didn't
- 4:03know too, but I'll tell you who does. My producer Ryan Nicholson and
- 4:08I have asked Ryan, Hannah, if you'll just give me this opportunity to
- 4:11bring Ryan in to explain exactly who Menthara is. Hey, Dave, first
- 4:17time on the show, isn't that great? So yeah, Menthara beautiful dog
- 4:23by the way, But Menthara is a character from Balder's Gate three, which
- 4:27was last year's Game of the Year winner. As far as the character is
- 4:31concerned. Not exactly a great person, kind of a villain in the game.
- 4:35But yeah, great name for a dog. So we've learned something today,
- 4:41Hannah. Yeah, it's a very cute name. I think it fits
- 4:44her. Well, she's very very cute. I definitely think it's a very
- 4:48cute name for her. All right, Well, Ryan, when I mentioned
- 4:51that, I said, I never heard of this. Ryan said, I
- 4:55know, I know, I know, And so we put Ryan in there
- 4:58on that one. So sometimes you get a call in the experts, Hannah,
- 5:00you realize that, right right, exactly? All right, let's get
- 5:02to Mensara. Talk about Mensara and Ryan. Feel free just to stick around
- 5:06if you have any questions. But since you because I didn't even asked him
- 5:10is it Mensara or Mensarah? Because I didn't know of the text. So
- 5:14I'll let Ryan stay out for this segment. Two. Uh, would you
- 5:16go ahead and tell us about Mensara Hannah? All right, so Mensara she
- 5:23is a female. Of course, she is three months. She will again
- 5:27we go by our gum and their teeth, so it could be she could
- 5:30be around fourish months. She'll be around five ish months, but we've estimated
- 5:35her to be around three months. She is Marcus trips and she is vaccinated.
- 5:41She's very very sweet. She is a puppy, so she's just a
- 5:44typical average puppy as if she was any other puppy. She definitely needs someone
- 5:50who is ready for the puppy sage. She's definitely playful. She will sleep
- 5:57for a little bit and then she'll play for a little bit, and then
- 6:00she'll want to just kind of hang out for a minute. So she's your
- 6:03typical puppy, very very sweet. She loves the title. She's not fixed
- 6:10yet, but she will be. And we do not know who the mom
- 6:13or the dad were because they came in as strange to us, so we're
- 6:16not sure on their breeds or anything like that, but they will be larger
- 6:19dogs, so she definitely will be a little bit of a larger dog.
- 6:24Well, she is an absolute, as Ryan said, an absolutely beautiful dog.
- 6:27And again we have the picture post that does always do on my Facebook
- 6:30page, Dave alland Radio and also on X you are is formably known as
- 6:33Twitter, and you can go check that out on that Dave a seventy of
- 6:36a Dave Allen Show on Twitter or X if you will. We'll get back
- 6:41to Minhari here in a couple of moments. You have a dog adoption special
- 6:44going on now. I understand. Earlier this week I was checking out social
- 6:46media. The number of dogs availables one hundred and five. Is that about
- 6:49where you are right now? Yeah? It kind of teared taught recently.
- 6:56At least between around one hundred and one hundred and ten is what I've really
- 7:00been seeing lately, so I know for the longest time it was one hundred
- 7:05and ten. But yeah, I think one of five is where we are
- 7:09now. It's definitely would be a great opportunity for people to go get their
- 7:14dog. Now. I understand that you're doing this is kind of cool.
- 7:16It's kind of a spin the wheel kind of the deal to see how much
- 7:20that somebody can adopt the dog for. It's anywhere from twenty five dollars off
- 7:25to free. Right, Yeah, So we have a little wheel, a
- 7:29spinner wheel that's up on one of our front desks when you come into the
- 7:31lobby, and it basically just has twenty I think it has a few twenty
- 7:38five dollars off, fifty dollars off, seventy five dollars off, and then
- 7:43there are two free spots. So if you land on the free spot,
- 7:47then you get a completely free adoption on the puppy or the adult dog that
- 7:55it is that you're wanting to adopt. So that's really awesome and we're hoping
- 7:59that a lot of people come out and give it a shot. As I
- 8:07want to talk about spring cleaning for a moment. Everybody's doing spring cleaning,
- 8:11you know, or at least they should be present company included. That should
- 8:15be when you do this, you don't want to forget about your friends at
- 8:20the shelter. So before you get rid of any towels, blankets, anything
- 8:26like that, don't throw them out because as we talked about last weekend,
- 8:28you can use those at the shelter. Oh yeah, we definitely will use
- 8:33any old I mean, if you have like a bunch of bags, toasts
- 8:37or anything that you've just been wanting to get through and get rid of.
- 8:41The shelter will accept old sheets, old blankets, new sheets, new blankets,
- 8:46I mean really just any kind of comforter or something that would give the
- 8:52puppies or the adult dogs, and even the catch and kit and something to
- 8:56lay on as if it is like their little or something. The smaller little
- 9:01blankets are better for our puppy room, and then we have some bigger blankets
- 9:05that are better for our tunnels. So we definitely will take all different shapes
- 9:09and thousands of blankets and towels. They definitely appreciate it and they definitely get
- 9:13used. We run out pretty fast, and as we mentioned last week,
- 9:18we'll be talking more about this as we get closer. Your big fundraiser.
- 9:20One of the big ones you do with this is really the big one,
- 9:22Tuxas and Tails coming up over Capital Market on May fourth. Yes, yes,
- 9:28we do have Texans and Tails. It's a yearly fundraising events that we
- 9:31have. It's a very fun one. It's one of our most fun ones
- 9:35that I think that we have. In my opinion, it's definitely something that
- 9:39you can get fancy and come on out. This year. I believe it
- 9:43is the Derby theme, So you can either wear I believe we had this
- 9:48seam last year, so you can wear what you were last year, or
- 9:52you can find something new. And the Derby theme is kind of really good
- 9:56for you to wear pretty much a wide variety of different things. So we
- 10:00definitely hope to see you out and take us on our social media or on
- 10:03our website. All right, Hannah, as always pleasure to have you on
- 10:07the show. We'll talk again next week. Thanks a lot, Thank you
- 10:09very much. And I also want to say thank you to Ryan Nichols and
- 10:13my producer here for telling us the story of of Menthara. How willfully out
- 10:16of am I Ryan? When it comes to video games? Uh well you
- 10:22can stop right there. A bit of a shameless plug. Check out my
- 10:26video game reports on Metro News Hotline. And if I would have known that,
- 10:30if I would have known, if had I listened, I wouldn't I
- 10:31would know that, right? Yeah? Menora Menthara, men Thara, kind
- 10:35of name is Menthara? Anyway? I mean, what does it. Well,
- 10:39it's a it's a fantasy name. It's it's yeah, I guess something
- 10:45somebody made up. I guess something made up. All right. Menthara is
- 10:48the dog's name that we're trying to get it out to this week. Menthara
- 10:50is female, three months old, microchip and vaccinated, very very sweet and
- 10:56playful. Dog loves attention, loves good naps and cuddler much like Ryan,
- 11:01very energetic, not fixed yet what will be? Not like Ryan, So
- 11:05it's probably gonna be a larger dog too, So keep that in mind because
- 11:07Hannah was talking about that about how the you know it kind of comes from
- 11:11a larger family. So just keep that in My picture posted Dave Allen Radio
- 11:16on Facebook and at Dave a seventy on x the artist for me known to
- 11:20Twitter. So go check out Menhara and put Menthara in your home. The

- 15:48but so much more. Mister pro wrestling in West Virginia. Good morning,

- 15:56I'll take it. I'll take it, mister pro wrestling. Mister pro wrestling
- 15:58too. Like it. He's now going to require us to call him that
- 16:03all the time, mister pro wrestling too. Yeah, we can make sure
- 16:06you do that, gentlemen. I appreciate all you guys being here. And
- 16:10I just realized this last night with myself, Adam Harris, Tim Brady,
- 16:15and Rick Cavender, Who's going to be on in the next segment from Charleston
- 16:18Urban Works. We have four members of the Leadership West Virginia class of twenty
- 16:23fifteen in one spot. And look how far we've come. I suddenly feel
- 16:29much more inadequate. Have we really come that far. I guess we excluded
- 16:33him. Yeah, he's not part of the best class. I am.
- 16:36Once again, I am the redheaded, left handed stupshaw. Have you ever
- 16:37done leadership West Virginia? If you get the opportunity, you really should do
- 16:41it. Because in all and I'm giving a shout out to our good friend
- 16:45Pam Ferris, I will say this without a doubt, I did it.
- 16:48We were all classes of twenty fifteen members. The best thing I ever did.
- 16:52And I mean I met people that are lifelong friends of mine and Adam
- 16:57too that I mean, seriously, if anybody ever gets the opportunity, if
- 17:03they're ever nominated to do leadership West Virginia, Brady and Harrison, Cavan and
- 17:08myself, we all had a great time, learned a lot, traveled the
- 17:11entire state. It was, seriously, in all seriousness, it was the
- 17:14best thing I ever did. It was. It was a ton of fun.
- 17:15You meet a lot of great people. I ran into Steve Candaris and
- 17:19Craig Griffith yesterday over at the state basketball tournament. So you know, you
- 17:23see these people, you connect with them and their lifelong friends. Yeah.
- 17:27Indeed, all right, ev let's start with you and talk about the overall
- 17:32event with the Green Chili shoot if you even rocking the Green Chili Shootout hat
- 17:36today, So overall, talk about this event. How did it come about?
- 17:38Talk about the history of it. Sure, so we've run the Green
- 17:42Chili Shootout almost since the inception of the market, and we had to posit
- 17:47in twenty nineteen due to COVID and this is the first year we've had really
- 17:51the opportunity in the capacity to bring it back, and we're bringing it back
- 17:53big. We have a record number of chili cooks this year. How many
- 17:57were talking, We're over fifty hungry I'll be there, and we've partnered with
- 18:03the Fantastic Foots at the beverage market. We're gonna we'll be expanding the cracked
- 18:07beer selection and then obviously we've added pro wrestling to it. So it's it's
- 18:14the whole day at the market. And let's talk about the judging. Because
- 18:21you can't I mean, comp you didn't comy, you didn't really have to
- 18:22try to yourself. But you asked me, you said, hey, would
- 18:26you be interest I said yeah, because I have done a lot of chili
- 18:29cookoffs. I mean really, and it's not just it's there's a lot more
- 18:32that goes into it if it and this is an officially sanctioned event, is
- 18:34that right? So this is an ICs International Chilia Society sanctioned event, and
- 18:38the winner will go on to the World Championship later in the year in Myrtle
- 18:45Beach. And we have I believe one for sure possibly two returning world champions
- 18:52that are participating on Saturday. So now these are there will be some local
- 18:55entries, but there are some entries from outside the area too. Right,
- 18:57we draw cooks, I believe our furthest one this year is coming from Indiana.
- 19:02Okay. So talk about green chili, I mean, because I mean
- 19:06I had some ask me the other day. Was that just chili with food
- 19:07coloring? Now there's a whole there's a whole lot more to it than that.
- 19:11Talk about that. So unlike your traditional Texas red chili, your green
- 19:15chili or ver day as it's commonly refer too, it's more of a thing
- 19:21more like in the American Southwest. And so it uses traditionally a tomatillo and
- 19:26hallapeno base, and then as opposed to beef, it's traditionally going to feature
- 19:30pork and from what you do. There is really up to the chefs.
- 19:33And so we've got guys that I guarantee you right now are probably roast and
- 19:37hatch chili's and a barrel roaster right now in preparation for tomorrow. And it
- 19:44honestly in everyone's palate's a little different, but I really prefer it, probably
- 19:48to the red it's I think it lends more opportunity for some creativity and it
- 19:55runs the gamut from you. You'll get sweet ones to ones that will be
- 20:00making you sweat for sure, for sure. But I've always said this,
- 20:03good chili does not have to be hot. I prefer hot because everything I
- 20:07eat is spicy, but it doesn't have to be if it's got a good
- 20:11flavor. That's not for me anyway, And any of you, if you
- 20:15guys are chili head, you could weigh in this as well. I don't
- 20:17think good chili has to necessarily be hot, as long as it's got a
- 20:19good flavor. So if you had the opportunity today until noon, you can
- 20:23pre purchase your ticket for ten dollars. They're fifteen dollars at the door,
- 20:27So I encourage you to get in. Go to Capital Market dot net.
- 20:30You can get go ahead and buy your tasting spin and that'll get you unlimited
- 20:34samples of all of the participants, all fifty of them. So and then
- 20:41you can purchase beer and wine tickets for five dollars at the door. And
- 20:45how does the judging work? Because I've been to this event, but I've
- 20:47never been a judge who got me as I said, being a judge tomorrow,
- 20:51exactly what am I going to be done? So, given the number
- 20:52of participants, it's going to be in two phases. We will have the
- 20:56preliminary phase which will narrow it down, and then the next round of judges
- 21:00will select the finalists. And it's all blinde These are all random, blind
- 21:06samples. You don't know who. Yeah, that's the way it should be.
- 21:07Yeah. So, and it's very very structured. They take our our
- 21:11head judges and our event organizers are very very strict in how we operate this
- 21:18event. We try to keep everything above board well and and generally speaking,
- 21:21it's like in the other chili events I've done. I've just did the one
- 21:23in Nitro the same day that you had the mac and Cheese cook off that
- 21:27I was a judge for that didn't you judge both. I did, you're
- 21:33mister judge, Yes, I did, I did both. This is the
- 21:37show now sponsored by Ozempics. It should be, it should be. But
- 21:42when you when you sample the chili's, I mean everybody, you know,
- 21:45it's like one spoonful. You don't add anything to it, no crackers.
- 21:49Everybody drinks the same thing. It's all. Everybody drinks water. No beer,
- 21:53no no soda anything like that. Everybody drinks water because that way,
- 21:56it's all. It's all. Even so for the people that just come out
- 22:00tomorrow, the average the average folks, they are not judging or they're not
- 22:03entering. They just want to come out and have chili. How does it
- 22:04work for them? How does everything? So? With the with the purchase
- 22:07of your your tasting spin, you get votes for People's Choice, and so
- 22:12the the ICs International Chili Society, we award awards for first through third place.
- 22:19Then we also have the People's Choice Award, and then we encourage folks
- 22:23to really play up the Saint Patti's theme. So we're awarding a prize for
- 22:27the best booths. All right, and uh uh, and the weather's going
- 22:30to be great tomorrow. I mean, yeah, the weather's going to be
- 22:33absolutely fantastic. And Adam's over here putting his hands up in the air because
- 22:36he's all excited about that because of the wrestling event, Tim, I want
- 22:38to go to you for a moment from the CBNV. I want to talk
- 22:41about the I mean, the impact of an event like this, got the
- 22:45pub crawl him on it just more big, big things happening here in Charleston.
- 22:49Yeah, and all of that going on simultaneously with the state high school
- 22:52basketball tournament at the Colisseum and Convention Center. Uh. And you know,
- 22:56big picture, Dave, this is the goal. The goal is to just
- 23:00drive activity in the city, not only for for locals, but for for
- 23:04visitors. So if you're you're in you're you're here for the state basketball tournament,
- 23:08and maybe you're looking for something to do on Saturday afternoon after your team
- 23:11finishes playing. If you're in the early game, you can come over to
- 23:15to Capital Market and participate in the chili cookoff or attend the chili cookoff.
- 23:19Uh. If you're in town for the basketball tournament and you want to hang
- 23:22out tonight in a fun atmosphere, you've got the pub Crawl. It's it's
- 23:25all about driving activity and just that you know that old cliche of that rising
- 23:30tide, right like, it's all over the city. There's there's activity happening
- 23:34all the time. And you know with what Evan's doing a capital market and
- 23:37and what Adam does in his his real job and his fake job. It's
- 23:42it's all of this activity that we're driving in the city and it's and it
- 23:47encompasses you know, food, music, art, outdoor recreation, all of
- 23:49that stuff. Yeah, all right, Adam, I want to bring Adam,
- 23:53Harrison and Richter Pro Wrestling in state of West Virginia, UH to talk
- 23:56about the the wrestling event that you have tomorrow as part of the Green Chili
- 24:02Shootout. Yeah, Man Regott of Pro Wrestling, which was part of the
- 24:03brainchild of our friends at the city, including Matt Sutton, our chief branding
- 24:07officer, Tim Brady, with regard of pro wrestling, and the idea was
- 24:11kind of just to attach wrestling onto other successful events and try to prove what
- 24:15Dave, you and I have known for many years, which is West Virginia
- 24:19is a pro wrestling state and Charleston is a pro wrestling city, and we're
- 24:22starting to act like it more and more. Now and this Saturday, we've
- 24:26got five exciting matches at the first ever Market Mayhem. Whenever regard of pro
- 24:30wrestling has an event, we're making history. We had the first ever Sternwell
- 24:34Slamboree last summer, hugely successful, followed by slam Plaza. Both of those
- 24:38events at slack Plaza. And this is our first ever Market Mayhem and we're
- 24:42bringing pro wrestling to Capital Market for the first time ever. All right,
- 24:45Saturday, now, somebody comes out and they just want to see the wrestling
- 24:49show. Absolutely, how's that going to work? Just bring a chair,
- 24:52roll up, bring a chair. I mean, but there's no charge for
- 24:55the for the wrestling show. You don't need a spoon to enjoy the wrestling.
- 25:00Although if you're gonna go by like Abdollal the Butcher, there may be
- 25:04old school wrestling fans what I'm talking about there, so, but but you
- 25:08do need to bring a chair for the wrestling fan. Is that right?
- 25:11It wouldn't hurt Okay. I think it's gonna be really cool. We're gonna
- 25:14be set up right in the center court of Capital Market. Thanks to my
- 25:17friend Moose at Appalachian Championship Wrestling, who's bringing the ring, and we're partnering
- 25:21with four other organisms or three other organizations uh throughout West Virginia to present regard
- 25:26of pro wrestling, it is not a one promotion show. It's actually a
- 25:29conglomerate. And uh these four promotions work together really well. And I'm appreciative
- 25:33to Gary at ASW and Moose at a c W, and of course Derek
- 25:37at Pro Wrestling Conquest and our friend Chance Profit from the Power Slam Academy.
- 25:41They all work together to help me. What time is the wrestling hopefully four
- 25:45pm bell time. It's gonna follow the Chile Awards. Uh so right after
- 25:49that, Ding ding ding, and we're gonna put matches in the ring,
- 25:52and we've got a real assortment of things, including tag team match. We've
- 25:55got women's wrestling. Micah is gonna be there against Emily j and that has
- 25:59some smimifications because we're trying to put together another championship title for Regatta Pro Wrestling,
- 26:03and so whoever's victorious this Saturday is probably going to get a shot at
- 26:08what will become a women's championship this summer during the Sternmoll Slambrie and of course
- 26:12our longest reigning Regatta Pro Wrestling Champion Bishop Baylor is going to defend that championship
- 26:18for the first time at Market Mayhem this Saturday, and so whoever wins that
- 26:22match is going to inevitably have to defend the belt this summer at Sternmoll Slamboree
- 26:26as well. So, I mean, it sounds like it's gonna be a
- 26:27great day for the entire family out here. You get the wrestling aspect of
- 26:30it, you got the chili aspect of it, and the other things going
- 26:33on at Capitol Market that I mean, the everyday stuff going on at Capitol
- 26:37Market AVM yep. And again really you know, all of these events were
- 26:41born out of supporting our small businesses and our producers, and so literally from
- 26:45noon to six, we're bringing the heat all day long. The heat one
- 26:51one. Uh yeah, it's the heat. It's all about It's all about
- 26:53that. Well, okay, all right, So I gotta ask, what
- 26:57is this yat thing that you keep doing. Well, I know you're a
- 27:00wrestling fan, and you were talking about rip Rodgers before we came on here.
- 27:03Yes, the theme saw that the bumper music there was by the Rolling
- 27:07Stones. There's a and that song is it was the It was the theme
- 27:12song to the Great Hustler Rip Rogers back in his Championship Wrestling from Georgia days
- 27:18about eighty eighty four. And anyone not from the Paleo Eric Earraw will know
- 27:22about a show called SmackDown that airs on Friday evenings. It's a professional wrestling
- 27:27show at least I think most people refer to that, and Jay Usso has
- 27:32been saying, yeat, it's kind of like his thing. Now what does
- 27:33it mean? Nobody knows, but the whole arena loves the chanton yeat.
- 27:38Yeah, okay, I mean, did you really have to go there?
- 27:42I had to, Dave. I mean, you set it up all those
- 27:45Hustler Rip Rogers fans out there. I'm going to preemptively apologize for back then.
- 27:49I mean, you know, Dave give a mic, Dave taken away
- 27:52to Chris So, it's been nice being a guest on here for the final
- 27:55time. But Dave, Allen Chill and five Aye Livee presuited the part by
- 27:57a Brightway Insurance Amaze Agency of t Is Valley, locally owned and operated to
- 28:00buy an Air Force veteran and a former teacher. When it comes to insurance.
- 28:03They have everything you've been looking for. Brightway offers expertise from real local
- 28:07agents, not a one eight hundred number, got a real local phone number
- 28:11three zero four eight one four two five zero nine for John and Cherry Mats
- 28:14or bright Way to Maid's Agency of Day's Valley, Texas. Dude, I
- 28:17love when tech start out. Dude, Dude. As soon as they said
- 28:21you don't need a spoon, I thought you made it a fork. I'll
- 28:22abdod to the butcher somebody, somebody kind of caught off a lot of said
- 28:26here, but have you talked about I mean, we have some fun talking
- 28:29about wrestling on here. I know Weekly's a big wrestling fan. You're on
- 28:32his show with Cooopa in the afternoon with Hotline a lot. But steis yeah,
- 28:37and but but I mean, you know, West Virginia is a is
- 28:42a pro wrestling mecca right now. And here's what I'll say. And we
- 28:47make a lot of jokes, but you know, wrestling, professional wrestling is
- 28:51something that the entire family can enjoy. It's a family friendly show that you'll
- 28:53see at Capital Market for market Mayhem. You know, wrestling fans transcend,
- 28:59you know socioeconomic class. They transcend age demographics, gender demographics. Some of
- 29:06my best friends that are wrestling fans are are CEOs of corporations and and it
- 29:11wrestling transcends all of those demographics. And that's what I think we love about
- 29:17it, sure for sure, and that's why there's been investment from the city
- 29:18into this, you know, try to make it part of the regatta in
- 29:22Capital mart market. Yeah. Yeah. At risk of outing myself, I
- 29:25had never attended a wrestling event until the the event during the Regatta, and
- 29:30I was just absolutely blown away at the cross section of humanity, like laying
- 29:34out from before there has always been and to go along with it, you
- 29:38guys said, there's always been this stereotype about wrestling. It was just the
- 29:41you know, the yahoos and what Maybe it was at one point because I
- 29:45first got into the wrestling business, as Adam said in the George Hackenschmidt era
- 29:48of the early Night behindres uh uh Stranger, Lewis and I rode together.
- 29:56But but but but, I mean, you know, there was a certain
- 29:59look to the crowd, you know, uh, but you know, for
- 30:03one reason or another, it kind of changed over the years. And that's
- 30:06a good thing. I think because, like Tim said, when you look
- 30:07out there, you see CEOs of corporations, You see the truck drivers,
- 30:11you see the grandmas, you see the little kids. You see it's a
- 30:15cross section. It's a cross section of people. I mean, it really
- 30:18really is, and it's it is an event for the entire family. And
- 30:19I want to ask you about that because you know, wrestling sometimes depending on
- 30:25which promotion you look at, you know, it can be come on in.
- 30:27Just tell cavan Or to come on in, Caventar, you can come
- 30:30on in. He's feeling left out. Rick Cavenor is coming in with a
- 30:33steel chair with a run in here. But but so, I mean the
- 30:37thing about it is is that some not all shows are family friendly, let's
- 30:41face it true, but yours, this one on Saturday, definitely will be.
- 30:47You know, I'm not going to promise that somebody won't go through some
- 30:49sort of a table or structure at some point. So you got to be
- 30:52okay with that. I mean, if you're looking at my family, that's
- 30:53just Saturday night. I mean I think it's nothing more than most people were
- 30:57used to seeing, perhaps in their own home. Yes, so it's gonna
- 31:00be a lot. Yeah, absolutely, it's gonna get the table. That's
- 31:06my house. It was Grandma'll get the table. Uh, but we appreciate
- 31:08you guys for stopping by. Again, let's kind of recap. Evan give
- 31:11us the overall on the On the Green Chili shootout for sure. It kicks
- 31:15off at noon. The awards will wrap up at four pm. We're gonna
- 31:21transition right into Capital Market Mayhem from four to six and then uh, I
- 31:26think you everyone should go check out the pop crawl right so we're gonna talk
- 31:27to Rick Cavin about that next and Adam and Tim, I appreciate you guys
- 31:30being here. Wrestling is at four o'clock tomorrow. And do you have like
- 31:33a website or Facebook? Anybody can check out your Facebook event. You can
- 31:37look up Market Mayhem and then also we have an Instagram account at Regatta Pro
- 31:41Wrestling. We just announced this morning that the ECW legend, Shane Douglas,
- 31:45is going to be there for the meet and Greek. I saw that Shane
- 31:48Douglas and I've known Shane for a lot. He was also part of the
- 31:51George Hackensmith. Uh. Shane. Shane spends a lot of time here in
- 31:56West Virginia too. He's a he's a great guy. The franchise. He
- 31:59pays a user fee Charleston. That's good, that's good. All right,
- 32:02Evan, I'll see you, got adamal and I will be over there tomorrow
- 32:06representing nine eighty seven of the Mountain One. I want I wanted to reiterate
- 32:09to that the fund raised from this event are going to be split between the
- 32:12market and our good friend George Manahan and the work that he's doing, yeah,
- 32:16with the Charleston Parkinston Charitable aspect of that. We want to make sure
- 32:19we get that out there. Yeah, And George just does a great job
- 32:22with that organization. Everybody does, so he's a he's a media legend here
- 32:27in Charleston. So that's where this whole thing comes from. The wrestling event
- 32:29part of it is free. It's come out there and check it out,
- 32:31Tim Adam Evan, I appreciate you guys being here. Oh. He's pleasured

- 35:10Today, tex says Abe Lincoln was a pro wrestler. Legend is he invented
- 35:15the jokes lamb. That's a Texter. Tex says Dave. Been traveling to
- 35:20Lexi to Louisville. A lot of talk there about Charleston having things to do
- 35:23and great concerts for gotta Christmas lights and night life downtown Charleston getting noticed,
- 35:28says a Texter. Well that makes Rick Cavander happy. Charleston Urban Works.
- 35:31Rick cavenis here, good morning, Good morning, sir. A bunch of
- 35:34Yahoo's here this morning. Man Osborne, Harris Brady, Now you and me,
- 35:37Yeah, but what do you do with that. I don't know.
- 35:43I'm not sure. We were talking about leadership West Virginia earlier. I don't
- 35:45know how Pam Ferris put up with all of us, but she had in
- 35:47Tony Stroud and Nate Randolph and Jim Hoyer and that group we had, but
- 35:52we lived to tell about a year. That was the It was indeed,
- 35:55talk about this event tomorrow night, sponsored by your group, Charleston Irban Works
- 36:00as well as a Downtown Charlestons Association. Talk about the event overall. Yeah,
- 36:02I mean, as you I'm sure you remember. For years we've done
- 36:05the Saint Patrick's East End pop Crawl, and with this new organizational structure and
- 36:08our new mission, our sort of reformed mission, and our new branding and
- 36:12our new name, Charleston Urban Works, we are really focusing on partnerships.
- 36:15We're doing all we can to reach out to our community partners more than we
- 36:19have in the past. We always have, but we've definitely doubled down on
- 36:22that, and we felt like this was a really good way to once again
- 36:24partner with the Downtown Charleston Association and expand now the East endpok Crawl, which
- 36:30has been going on for twelve years. Right, Yeah, I've got information
- 36:32posts about the issues event on my social media pages. So I want to
- 36:37talk about this as far as because the first thing people ask is they say,
- 36:40well, you know, people like to come out, some people not
- 36:44everybody chooses to participate in the alcohol part of it, but suppose to do.
- 36:46There is a safety environment, a safety component, I should say to
- 36:52talk about that. Yeah. So for this, for the first ever Capital
- 36:54Crawl as we're calling it, we are continuing our partnership with Kart. We
- 37:00have a trolley running by Kart sponsored by Mountain Say Beverage, and they will
- 37:05be on a loop. This trolley will be on a loop of starting at
- 37:08City Center right there in front of five Street. It'll go to the Lee
- 37:12Street Lounge and then go to the east end in front of the Red Carpet.
- 37:15It'll loop from eight pm to twelve a m. For anyone wearing their
- 37:17wristbands. Purchased a wrist band to participate in the Capitol Crawl. Right,
- 37:22so I come out tomorrow night and my wife and I decided to show up.
- 37:23We're gonna take part in this. How exactly does it work? Because
- 37:27again, this has always been on the east end now, it's citywide.
- 37:29I've got a list of some of the ones that could be taking part and
- 37:30then I'll get to that here to Capitol Moments. But how does it work.
- 37:34It's you know what, We've simplified it even more. If you if
- 37:37you've already registered, you can buy your tickets now. To get your wristbandsmorrow,
- 37:38you can go online to our facebook page, to Charleston Urban Works facebook
- 37:43page, that Downtown Charleston Association Facebook page. You can go there and follow
- 37:46the link and purchase your tickets now or just wait till the day of.
- 37:49When you get there, you're gonna go to Black Sheep Black Sheep Burritos.
- 37:52That's the starting point. That is the starting point. That's where you get
- 37:53registered, get all your stuff. You're going to enter in through the summer
- 37:57street patio, not their front door, with their summer streeatia. We'll have
- 38:00registrations set up in there. We'll have volunteers air taking care of everybody.
- 38:04When you get in, you get your ticket scanned, or you can purchase
- 38:07a ticket on site, same price, twenty bucks. You get idd,
- 38:09you get your wristband, You get a coozy, really cool commemorative coozy for
- 38:14this first year event and three discount beer tickets. Those tickets can be used
- 38:17at any of the establishments. If you look on the business list that we've
- 38:22made the publish there there is a drink a little orange ticket icon. That's
- 38:25the drink that you get that particular discount for with that ticket. Okay,
- 38:30And some of the places taking part, and this is just a partial list
- 38:31based on what you'd posted on social media, and again I shared it on
- 38:35my social media Adelphia Bar one on one. I do want to throw in
- 38:38an editor's note there, Woody woulds from my sister station, The Beat is
- 38:42going to be there broadcast live for the event from Bar one on one,
- 38:45Black Sheep, which you mentioned, Dim, two Brothers, five Street,
- 38:49Hail House, Sam's Short Story, Venos Whiskey, Glasses, Lee Street Lounge,
- 38:53Empty Glass, Red Carpet, all taking part at the taking part thirteen
- 38:57pubs this year. Yeah, biggest we've ever had. It's going to be
- 39:00a great time. Yeah. And and remember, and like I was telling
- 39:02Woody on their the other day, I mean, you know, it's important
- 39:05to remember these most of these places are also restaurants, not all of them,
- 39:07but most of them serve like delicious food. Right, so you can
- 39:10go and plan your dinner around this as well. You don't just it's not
- 39:14just for the drinks, it's for the dinner as well. You know,
- 39:16this event has always been a huge success. It's the only event of its
- 39:21kind in the valley. We've seen a couple other pop up and like in
- 39:23St. Albans, which is great. I'm so glad to see them.
- 39:24Yeah, and so you know, this is like I said, I've been
- 39:30going on twelve years. This is also a fundraiser for both of our organizations.
- 39:35So all the money that is raised for this, that twenty dollars ticket
- 39:37goes right back into into our community through you know, supporting our efforts and
- 39:42our operations to provide quality programming for the East End, for the West Side,
- 39:45and of course with this partnership with downtown Brick Cavenants here for Charleston Urban
- 39:50Works reminded the text of the show or service of Fruit Pharmacy and as always
- 39:54our phone calls to the show a service of big Lely Pigley Wigley. I
- 39:58have a text for you, mister Cavender. Yes, sir, it says
- 40:00David. It's not much of a pub crawl if you can't buy a beer
- 40:04outside or inside and walk around with an Easton pub crawl used to include that
- 40:07maybe mister Cavator can address the change. So glad that that question was answered,
- 40:10because I was going to address that anyway, So glad to hear that.
- 40:13So you're probably aware of the new Poda that's an effect downtown, right.
- 40:19So the way it works with Poda, if you if any vendors are
- 40:22outside selling beer, Poda then cannot be in effect. So we thought it
- 40:27was more important that folks are in these establishments buying local. In those establishments,
- 40:31you know, letting those cash registers ring purchased or drink and from six
- 40:36to ten in the downtown district from six to ten, as long as you
- 40:38pour that drink into to a Poda cup, which we've sent out to all
- 40:42the registrants. What that cup looks like, you can take it outside that
- 40:45establishment and walk around outside within the Poda district. And that district is marked
- 40:49if you look at the lampposts downtown, it is marked where those parameters are.
- 40:52So we felt like it was more important, since this is a small
- 40:55business promotion, to keep all of the sales happening inside the gentleman or the
- 41:00person who texted you and asked that question remembers back before on the East End,
- 41:05PoTA, don't there's no poda that's an effect on the East End now
- 41:07or that there never was. We actually shut the area down and sold beer
- 41:13outside to kind of like thin out the crowds es basically as it got so
- 41:16for lack of a better term, rec it was almost like a private party.
- 41:19And what I mean by that price, you just didn't have a lot
- 41:21of people coming in, correct, And so you know, and there were,
- 41:23like I said, there were a couple of reasons we did that.
- 41:24Number one, it got so crowded in those places we got a little concern,
- 41:29so we wanted to kind of filter people out and give them opportunity to

- 42:02quickly, Rick, what else is going on with chelseon urban work? Oh,
- 42:06we are in the middle of so much exciting work right now, Dave.
- 42:08You know we as far as our public space enhancement initiatives are concerned.
- 42:12I've been on here to talk about it a few times. We are getting
- 42:14ready to pull the trigger to start construction on our West Side gateway lighting initiative.
- 42:17We've had to get through some environmental review stuff, the kind of stuff
- 42:20you have to do when you get federal funding that sometimes takes a little time,
- 42:23more time than we thought, honestly, but we are well on the
- 42:27way that projects. As we've talked about, we'll see all the lamp posts
- 42:30in the Oak City district replaced with more modern lamposts and not only shine down
- 42:35on the street and provide more safety, but also shine up onto the buildings
- 42:37in showcase the architecture. So it's a first of its kind project in the
- 42:40state as far as like multi block project for lighting. So we're in the
- 42:45middle of that. We're currently in the middle of developing. We've already got
- 42:51it developed. We're going to be distributing small business surveys to our businesses and
- 42:54that's going to take a few months to do some survey work so we can
- 42:57really find out the needs of our business owner on the East end, on
- 43:00the west side, so we can shape our work plans. We have to
- 43:04know the needs of our businesses are end users, if you will, our
- 43:07customers as an organization, to know how we need to do our work for
- 43:10the coming years. All right, let's go back to the pub crawl before
- 43:13we let you go. Details are available where if you go to the Charleston
- 43:16Urban Works Facebook page or the Downtown Charleston Association Facebook page, the full publist
- 43:21that we've been talking about is there. There's a QR code you can scan
- 43:23there to go to the ticketing page to buy your tickets to that. Now
- 43:28we've already sold around three hundred and some tickets, which is not bad for
- 43:30an event that promoted a few weeks ago. Yeah, and we'll see a
- 43:34lot more on site registrations, we have no doubt. So you can go
- 43:37there. Actually you can actually go back to the Saint Patrick's Easton Pub Crawl
- 43:40page as well. We went ahead and kept because we have so many followers
- 43:44there. You can go there and the information is there as well. There's
- 43:45a link you can follow to learn more about it and to buy your tickets.
- 43:50All right, Rick, I appreciate it, man. It's always best
- 43:52of luck with everything. It's going to be a busy time in Charleston.
- 43:54While as we talked about with the Green Chili shootout in the Big Wrestling event,
- 43:58going out to Capital Market your event tomorrow night as well, and you
- 44:01start at again six pm and like the bars or the pubs, most of
- 44:07them stay open past ten pm. Just Hota stops at ten pm, so
- 44:09okay, you know, and then of course it'll go to till after midnight
- 44:12on the Eastday. And make sure you take advantage of the of the rides
- 44:17to free Charlie rides, but please don't drink. And also CNH Taxi is
- 44:21offered in tox Attack. In Toxa Taxi you can call them for a free
- 44:23ride within a timmul. Please please do that, all right, Rick,
- 44:27I appreciate it. Man. Best of luck. It's nine to fifty one.

- 47:25Push. I feel like I was just here. We start the week with
- 47:29you, and we end the week with you. Oh what a good week.
- 47:30And you were on Hoppy too, That's that is correct. Yes,
- 47:34I was on Hoppy, but I'm not here today with the delegate hat On
- 47:37come here as the chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. They talk about
- 47:40events that are going to be occurring all over the state tomorrow, and mainly
- 47:45about the event here in Kanah County over in South Charleston. That's our the
- 47:50Democratic Party county conventions will take place tomorrow. Side of the county convention.
- 47:55Well, we encourage all Democrats and people interested in people who want to be
- 48:00Democrats to show up. And this is how we don't just select the delegates
- 48:05to the state convention, which is going to happen in June here at the
- 48:09Charleston Convention Center. That's in June, but we select the delegates of the
- 48:15state convention. And it's also where we start adopting planks to the party platform.
- 48:20And there could be you know, resolutions could be brought up. But
- 48:22this is how we know. This is the small d part of the Democratic
- 48:27Party. It's about bringing democracy to the Democratic Party, allowing anybody to show
- 48:30up and help shape their party because it is their party. And so it
- 48:34all starts at what time again, the one in Kanah County, which is
- 48:37really want to talk about it. It starts at the doors open at one
- 48:40and the convention starts at one thirty and that is at the LaBelle Theater in
- 48:45South Charleston. It's a great facility there, by the way for it,
- 48:46I mean that they've done a really good job with it. So what kind
- 48:50of turnout are you expecting for this? What kind of thing? What kind
- 48:52of thing that normally happens to the well, you know, in years where
- 48:55you have contested presidential primaries, obviously there are a lot big I remember back
- 49:00in like two thousand and eight when it was you know, Hillary versus Obama,
- 49:04there was a huge turnout, and then of course in sixteen when you
- 49:07had Bernie Sanders against Hillary Clinton, there was a great turnout. So in
- 49:12years where that's already decided, we already know President Biden already has the enough
- 49:16delegate, enough pledge delegates to secure the nomination. He is our party's nominee.
- 49:22So it's it's important to remind people it's not just about a pointing about
- 49:25sorry about electing the nominee. It's also about updating the party platform and you
- 49:30know, creating the party for them. And like I said, it's putting
- 49:35the small d back in Democratic Party. So we hope to have a good
- 49:38turnout and that's why I'm on here talking to you. I'll be on later
- 49:42with Woody during the afternoon show to talk about it then and trying to get
- 49:46folks to come and take part in their party. The Dave Islands showing five
- 49:50A the line brought to you party by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury
- 49:53law firm. So I mean anybody that's a Democrat can show up pretty much,
- 49:57rank yeah, or anybody that wants to be or wants to be a
- 50:00Democrats are the people that want to be Democrats? Say plenty, plenty.
- 50:04I get a text to the show, and I don't know again who the
- 50:06texts come from, but I get a text from the show a lot of
- 50:07times and people will say, well, you know, I was a member
- 50:10of the Republican party and they lost me and now I'm an independent, or
- 50:15they'll say I was a member of the Democratic Party and I switched Republican.
- 50:17I do get text though from people that say, and I get a few
- 50:21that say the Republican Party lost me, I became Democrat. They're few and
- 50:24far between, but they're there, Mike, I think people are, you
- 50:28know, lately there's if you look at the trends, just at the registration
- 50:30with the fastest growing group or independence but we but people don't vote that way.
- 50:35There aren't a whole lot of independence in all. There are none in
- 50:39the legislature and none of the Board of public We don't there are no elected
- 50:43independents. But more and more people are registering that way just because they don't
- 50:46feel a real affiliation with their party. But this is a way to regain
- 50:51that because you anybody can show up and have a voice in what the party
- 50:55is and in the party platform and what the party. People often say,
- 50:59what do you see for? We'll show up and tell us what you stand
- 51:01for. Where the we've been a big tent party. We've always been the
- 51:05party for everybody else. And we are holding county conventions across the state tomorrow,
- 51:08because we feel that's the way to grow a party and to hear from
- 51:12everybody. I'm not sure what they're doing on the other side of the aisle.
- 51:15I've not heard about any of They used to have county conventions too,
- 51:17I'm not sure they're still doing that. They might just have their county committee
- 51:21select their delegates. I mean, both parties have national conventions. Our lead
- 51:25up to the national convention is to start the grassroots level at the county level
- 51:30and to bring in as many people as possible, and then we send people
- 51:32back here to Charleston in June for our state convention, where we will select
- 51:37our delegates to the to the DNC in Chicago in August. And that's how
- 51:42we do it. Small D Democratic Party one tomorrow at the LaBelle Theater.
- 51:46Doors open at one. If you're not registered, it's just showing up early.
- 51:50That way you can register and be a delegate, be a voting member
- 51:52of the convention, and take place in the in democracy, all right,
- 51:57getting part in democracy? Right? So I want to ask you this real
- 52:00quick before we go, because it's Friday. I have to ask about some
- 52:02fun, say, playing any music anywhere soon. Yeah, I'm actually gonna
- 52:07be hosting an open mic night. Glad you asked that at the Clay Center
- 52:09next Thursday. I believe it's seven to nine. It's a new event.
- 52:13They're gonna be starting like an open mic. I believe it's open for all

- 52:19the first open mic night at the Clay Center next Thursday. All right,
