- 0:00Speaker 1: Are you already at the practice field this morning?
- 0:03Speaker 2: No, we fired up? Tomorrow's we got one more day
- 0:06Speaker 2: and then it gets going.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so are you tell me where you
- 0:11Speaker 1: what is your current state of mind? Are you? Are
- 0:14Speaker 1: you fired up? Are you excited? Are there butterflies? Anticipation?
- 0:20Speaker 1: Where are we?
- 0:22Speaker 2: I think I would be more anticipated and fired up
- 0:25Speaker 2: if it was game day tomorrow, not first day of practice,
- 0:28Speaker 2: because it's going to be very similar to spring at
- 0:32Speaker 2: which I was kind of expecting in terms of access
- 0:35Speaker 2: and what we're going to be able to see, at
- 0:36Speaker 2: least the first half of camp is it's going to
- 0:39Speaker 2: be very similar with your you know, Peak Golding's from
- 0:42Speaker 2: the school savings, so it shouldn't surprise new people. So
- 0:45Speaker 2: we'll see if we get to see more than punts,
- 0:47Speaker 2: which is what we saw basically in the spring. But uh,
- 0:50Speaker 2: you know, I can't fault them for it. I get it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Everybody kind of does their own thing. So yeah, No,
- 0:55Speaker 2: if it was Louisville and Nashville tomorrow, where I could
- 0:58Speaker 2: see sixty four minutes of this team, I'd probably be
- 1:00Speaker 2: a little more excited. But it's it's gonna be good day.
- 1:02Speaker 2: We go around sometime mid morning Thursday, and then that
- 1:06Speaker 2: afternoon we do the big meat local media day with
- 1:09Speaker 2: Pete and talk to all the players, So that that
- 1:11Speaker 2: part would be good, just to talk to somebody outside
- 1:13Speaker 2: of you know, Trinidad and Kewana Will, which is about
- 1:16Speaker 2: all I've kind of talked to this summer. So on
- 1:18Speaker 2: that side of it, it'll be nice to see what
- 1:20Speaker 2: those guys say about the season.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, don't you love that? Once you get Pete Golding
- 1:26Speaker 1: going that, it's just pure content for all y'all and
- 1:29Speaker 1: for us.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I guess you know. The one thing
- 1:33Speaker 2: I think he'll have to keep in mind is, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and this isn't a knock. It's more of an unsolicited advice.
- 1:39Speaker 2: If somebody has his ears listening, it's you could tell
- 1:41Speaker 2: the media days to try to answer one question, the
- 1:44Speaker 2: tampering question, and dodged it, and then the next person
- 1:47Speaker 2: that asked it kind of learned or figured out how
- 1:50Speaker 2: he might could ask it was it was not specifically
- 1:52Speaker 2: about Clints, but said hey how would you fix this?
- 1:55Speaker 2: Or that was the just them and I can't remember itverbatim,
- 1:57Speaker 2: and then that's what fired him up. So I think
- 1:59Speaker 2: people are gonna realize. So you can poke the bar enough,
- 2:01Speaker 2: you're going to get him going right. And that's where
- 2:04Speaker 2: you know, that's where you know. I don't want to
- 2:06Speaker 2: see media training because you don't need to muzzle him
- 2:08Speaker 2: because he is great. I mean, Summer all in him
- 2:10Speaker 2: back to back, that was probably the best through two hours,
- 2:13Speaker 2: three hours of the entire week. I mean it was
- 2:16Speaker 2: kind of a blob media days until those two took
- 2:18Speaker 2: the podium. So no, you don't want to change him.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But you can't show your cards because you know some
- 2:23Speaker 2: of the media guys will then start pushing those buttons.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he's he's a great you know, talker
- 2:29Speaker 1: and conversationalist, which is good for you and I, and
- 2:33Speaker 1: he enjoys it. He enjoys, you know, visiting and engaging
- 2:36Speaker 1: and so on. He's natural.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He'll talk ball for twenty five minutes if you just
- 2:41Speaker 2: say defense, which is what I watched in Cleveland last
- 2:44Speaker 2: month during the Rubber Road Ship. Somebody asked him about defense.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I think he talked about every single player on defense.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So you got a coach that loves ball.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So Jake Thompson Ole Miss Insider Ole Miss
- 2:57Speaker 1: opens up with Louisville in Nashville against Jeff Brohm, who
- 3:02Speaker 1: is a damn good football coach, But they don't have
- 3:05Speaker 1: any experience at the quarterback position. And our friend Jake
- 3:09Speaker 1: Thompson just mentioned Will Eccles and that defense looks serious
- 3:14Speaker 1: with Eccles and Perkins and so on. So how would you?
- 3:17Speaker 1: And we don't know yet, but last year they were
- 3:21Speaker 1: good and you've had some really good ones over the years,
- 3:24Speaker 1: good Lord, fourteen and fifteen among other years, you know
- 3:29Speaker 1: how good considering some of the defensive lines that you've had.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Can this twenty twenty six defensive line be with this group?
- 3:40Speaker 2: You know, I don't know if it'll be as good
- 3:42Speaker 2: as I guess two years ago. Now whatever the year
- 3:45Speaker 2: was with Ivy and Peggy's and you know others Prince Slei,
- 3:50Speaker 2: Umaniel and all those guys that ended up kitting drafted
- 3:53Speaker 2: at least a shot at the NFL camp. I can't
- 3:55Speaker 2: say it'll be as good as that, just because outside
- 3:58Speaker 2: of Eccles and Cam Franklin, you know, none of us
- 4:00Speaker 2: will have seen what these guys can do together. And uh,
- 4:03Speaker 2: you know, Blake Purchase and and some other additions that
- 4:06Speaker 2: they brought in a defensive end. And I mean that
- 4:10Speaker 2: on paper, you would think it's supposed to be a
- 4:12Speaker 2: really good defensive front. But we got to see them
- 4:14Speaker 2: all play together, and you know, there's a lot of
- 4:16Speaker 2: new faces, a lot of new pieces. And that's why
- 4:18Speaker 2: I think, uh, a lot of people we kind of
- 4:21Speaker 2: talked to in Tampa, just other you know, media people
- 4:23Speaker 2: or national people, was that nobody's talking about this on
- 4:26Speaker 2: Miss defense enough. And maybe it's under the radar. I
- 4:29Speaker 2: think it's more so that for us, you know locally
- 4:32Speaker 2: who cover them, it's it's always kind of a wait
- 4:34Speaker 2: and see. We got to watch the watch them play.
- 4:36Speaker 2: How do they mold Because offense you can kind of
- 4:38Speaker 2: get a feel for what the hell they're going to
- 4:40Speaker 2: be because you just kind of see that more. But defense,
- 4:43Speaker 2: you know, Equos is the guy. But I think it's
- 4:45Speaker 2: going to take a little bit of the Louisville game
- 4:47Speaker 2: and then I think a lot of the Charlotte game
- 4:49Speaker 2: because that should be you know, you would think if
- 4:51Speaker 2: you're all miss chumming the water, just get some get
- 4:53Speaker 2: some reps, get some more experience before the next week, uh,
- 4:56Speaker 2: for us to learn how good this defense can be,
- 4:58Speaker 2: and then they'll have to put that to the you know,
- 5:01Speaker 2: LSU at Florida. It doesn't get any easier from there.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So I think it can be good, but we're gonna
- 5:07Speaker 2: have to see kind of the proof of concept first.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Do you think Eccles can be a first round pick
- 5:11Speaker 1: at some point?
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah? I think he can play his way there, because
- 5:15Speaker 2: you know what everybody does those way through early next
- 5:18Speaker 2: year drafts immediately after the current Ears draft. For the
- 5:22Speaker 2: ones that I could find, you know, Eccles was the
- 5:24Speaker 2: first Old Miss guy going off any kind of draft
- 5:27Speaker 2: board or mock draft, you know. So I think he
- 5:30Speaker 2: can be a first round guy, but I think he's
- 5:32Speaker 2: kind of have to play his way through that this season.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Okay, all right. Jake Thompson, Ole Miss Insider on the
- 5:39Speaker 1: Out of Bound Show ESPN one oh five nine to
- 5:42Speaker 1: the Zone, brought to you by the delicious Key City
- 5:45Speaker 1: Beer out of Vicksburg. Pick them up today. You will
- 5:48Speaker 1: love it. Key City Mississippi Queen Mississippi me Vita. Jake
- 5:52Speaker 1: Thompson on the Out of Bound Show Back to SEC
- 5:55Speaker 1: media Days, What was your one big takeaway from from
- 5:59Speaker 1: Gold and what he did say or didn't say?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Jake, I think the biggest take was he was ready
- 6:06Speaker 2: to get back on the practice field. You know, I
- 6:08Speaker 2: think he's done a lot. He was in the midst
- 6:10Speaker 2: of wrapping up that rubberroad trip, which obviously he's he's
- 6:13Speaker 2: gonna love meeting the fans. But I think he's he's
- 6:15Speaker 2: a coach. You know. We we just said he's a
- 6:17Speaker 2: good talker and can say there our things, and he's
- 6:20Speaker 2: fun to talk too, but he's not really the most
- 6:22Speaker 2: you know, he didn't enjoy doing that. I think he's
- 6:24Speaker 2: ready to get back on the field and be a
- 6:25Speaker 2: ball coach. And I think he's also ready to kind
- 6:28Speaker 2: of prove that those three games weren't a fluke. If
- 6:30Speaker 2: there was any overarching theme to the entire week with
- 6:35Speaker 2: first year coaches, that was a lot of questions in
- 6:37Speaker 2: the main room. It almost felt like a job interview
- 6:39Speaker 2: all over again. A lot of guys are asking why
- 6:41Speaker 2: you why, why, why did you get it? Why should
- 6:43Speaker 2: you be the guy? You know, we saw will Stein throughout.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I think this team's better because I'm here, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 2: that kind of comment, that quote. So that was the
- 6:51Speaker 2: overarching theme of basically sitting there watching these first year
- 6:54Speaker 2: coaches or coaches at a new spot even though they've
- 6:57Speaker 2: coached somewhere else. Why you? Why you? And then you know,
- 7:00Speaker 2: Pete got some of that and then obviously he kind
- 7:02Speaker 2: of took over when he got going there and it
- 7:04Speaker 2: kind of deflected from that. But that's the biggest thing
- 7:07Speaker 2: is I think all these first year coaches were kind
- 7:10Speaker 2: of being put onto the microscope again.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Okay, Jake Thompson on the Out of Bounds Show, Ole
- 7:15Speaker 1: Miss kicks it off against Louisville in Nashville week one, Baby,
- 7:21Speaker 1: then they take a week off against Charlotte, and then
- 7:23Speaker 1: we all know LSU at Ole Miss. So looking at
- 7:29Speaker 1: the Vegas odds, Jake Ole Miss plus eleven hundred to
- 7:34Speaker 1: win the SEC and plus three thousand for the Natty.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I mean, depending on what book you're looking at. Right,
- 7:41Speaker 1: So that's respected, but it's clearly behind several teams in
- 7:45Speaker 1: the SEC like Georgia, Texas A and m Bama and LSU.
- 7:52Speaker 1: That's kind of the pecking order. Do you think that
- 7:57Speaker 1: people are sleeping on this miss football team?
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think also it just got historical
- 8:05Speaker 2: kind of evidence to go by. You know, I don't
- 8:09Speaker 2: agree with how Roman Harper said it on TV that day.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I think at SC media Days to start the week,
- 8:14Speaker 2: where he was, you know, picking on the new guy,
- 8:17Speaker 2: Chase Daniels and said, it's all Miss. He'll learn they're
- 8:19Speaker 2: they're not gonna win a national title. I'm not going
- 8:22Speaker 2: that far. I think that was poorly said for you know,
- 8:24Speaker 2: insert any team into that sentence. But yeah, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 2: I think all Miss has to prove it. You know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: they've got the guys on offense, but I think everybody
- 8:32Speaker 2: knows defense is what wins you that title or gets
- 8:35Speaker 2: you in the running. And you know, it's hard. Logo
- 8:38Speaker 2: bias is a thing. It's just it's just is, especially
- 8:41Speaker 2: in college football in Vegas. Some of these guys don't
- 8:43Speaker 2: watch a lick of any of these teams all the
- 8:46Speaker 2: time or even reading to eerie stuff, but but they
- 8:49Speaker 2: do know what an Ohio State team all easily does,
- 8:51Speaker 2: what a Notre Dame team does, Texas, you know, Georgia, Alabama.
- 8:55Speaker 2: So I think that's part of it. But you know,
- 8:57Speaker 2: also these uh, these Vegas guys, there's a reason a
- 8:59Speaker 2: lot stay on all the time, and they know to
- 9:01Speaker 2: put some some teams with odds that are going to
- 9:03Speaker 2: rile up some people and go that's I'm going to
- 9:05Speaker 2: make a killing off of this and put some bet down,
- 9:07Speaker 2: you know, better's bait. So it's probably a little bit
- 9:10Speaker 2: of all that in there. But uh, you know, I
- 9:12Speaker 2: foe miss can get through week three and be three
- 9:14Speaker 2: and zero heading to Florida. I think you're going to
- 9:17Speaker 2: see at least the SEC odds shift in their favor.
- 9:20Speaker 2: You know, it'll probably take a little bit more than
- 9:22Speaker 2: that for the you know, the national title livee to shift,
- 9:24Speaker 2: but yeah, I think they just have to, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 2: pile up some debuts and and that money will shift
- 9:29Speaker 2: their way.
- 9:30Speaker 1: And do you believe that with all the shakeup And yes,
- 9:34Speaker 1: Pete did a good job in the playoffs, but a
- 9:36Speaker 1: lot of that was driven by what Lane had built,
- 9:39Speaker 1: as you know, for six years. Do you believe ten
- 9:43Speaker 1: and two is what it's going to take to get
- 9:45Speaker 1: in Jake, until we go to twenty whatever, until we
- 9:48Speaker 1: go to sixteen, twenty or twenty four. Nine in three
- 9:50Speaker 1: is not going to get it. So when when you
- 9:54Speaker 1: look at you know, it's it's somewhat manageable. But you
- 9:58Speaker 1: mentioned elish at home. That's going to be tough at Florida,
- 10:01Speaker 1: tough at Texas, tough Georgia at home and at Oklahoma
- 10:06Speaker 1: Top and then I'm going I'm kind of glossing over
- 10:08Speaker 1: some SEC teams that you know, you don't ever know
- 10:11Speaker 1: could give anyone some pits. Do you believe this is
- 10:14Speaker 1: a roster and a team that can go ten and
- 10:17Speaker 1: two with a nine game conference schedule in Louisville on
- 10:21Speaker 1: a neutral field.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I mean, I think they can, but I'm gonna I'm
- 10:27Speaker 2: kind of the one that's leaning that I think a
- 10:29Speaker 2: nine and three team could get in, But with a caveat,
- 10:31Speaker 2: it depends on who the nine are and who the
- 10:33Speaker 2: three are, because you know, I think that's going to
- 10:36Speaker 2: weigh into especially which think you basically saying to us
- 10:39Speaker 2: in Tampa that he taught with college football player people,
- 10:42Speaker 2: I guess the desks in the spring meetings, and he
- 10:44Speaker 2: was given the word he used unsatisfactory answer, which basically
- 10:48Speaker 2: means he the committee didn't tell them, oh, hey, we're
- 10:51Speaker 2: going to weigh that nine game schedule heavier and everybody else.
- 10:54Speaker 2: But no, I think a nine and three team might,
- 10:56Speaker 2: but it also depends on, like I said, who those
- 10:59Speaker 2: nine are and who those three are. I mean, it
- 11:00Speaker 2: could be good loss as good wins, but no in
- 11:03Speaker 2: terms of All Miss on paper, I think they have
- 11:05Speaker 2: a ten and two team, but they've got, you know, obviously,
- 11:08Speaker 2: like everybody else, to got to go play the games
- 11:09Speaker 2: and show it. Pete Golden's toughest coach. First toughest coaching task,
- 11:15Speaker 2: I think is that week between LSU and Florida. We
- 11:20Speaker 2: ever lose LSU, his job is to get that team
- 11:23Speaker 2: back to level as fast as possible before going to
- 11:26Speaker 2: a very motivated joh Sumrall who could not stop saying
- 11:31Speaker 2: over and over that he was beaten by All Miss
- 11:33Speaker 2: twice last year by two different coaches, you know, with
- 11:35Speaker 2: his two lane team, and he's a competitor like if
- 11:38Speaker 2: your other coach, he's going to be motivated. And we
- 11:40Speaker 2: have also seen how All Miss does heading into a
- 11:42Speaker 2: big game at Gainesville in recent history. You know, it's
- 11:45Speaker 2: been been a challenge, especially with a lot on the line.
- 11:48Speaker 2: So that's Pete's first toughest job. If Miss Pete's LSU,
- 11:52Speaker 2: you've got to get him back down, make sure they're
- 11:54Speaker 2: not coming off of partying like an all night or
- 11:56Speaker 2: in Vegas. If they lose, you've got to get them
- 11:58Speaker 2: back up to a level and make them realize there's
- 12:01Speaker 2: still eight more games, and you think, you know, we
- 12:04Speaker 2: have plenty of time to get back on track. That's
- 12:05Speaker 2: the beauty of lsub in the first of these nine
- 12:08Speaker 2: SCC games. If you lose, you've got your what you
- 12:11Speaker 2: used to have, your normal eight game SEC schedule to
- 12:13Speaker 2: get back on track.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that was well done. Jake Thompson on Miss Insider
- 12:19Speaker 1: Ole Miss Spirit on three on the Farm Bureau Insurance
- 12:22Speaker 1: Guests line, and by the way, for our listeners, because
- 12:24Speaker 1: you're busy and Jake and I are somewhat locked into this.
- 12:28Speaker 1: What Jake was referencing was Sanke at Commissioner Sankie at
- 12:33Speaker 1: SEC Media Days said that they had a conference call
- 12:38Speaker 1: with the College Football Playoff Committee and his quote, I'm
- 12:41Speaker 1: kind of paraphrasing, was it was not a productive conversation. Okay,
- 12:47Speaker 1: now when when and I think this is where Jake's
- 12:50Speaker 1: going to When this thing is expanded, it won't matter
- 12:55Speaker 1: to more, you know, But right now, I think it's
- 12:58Speaker 1: going to clip the league this year because we stayed
- 13:00Speaker 1: at twelve but bumped it up to nine games. And
- 13:03Speaker 1: so that's what Jake and I are debating. Can nine
- 13:05Speaker 1: and three get you in? Probably not? But as Jake said,
- 13:08Speaker 1: maybe it's really going to come down to go in
- 13:10Speaker 1: ten and two and eleven and one, and with Notre
- 13:12Speaker 1: Dame probably making the playoffs, that's taking a spot that
- 13:17Speaker 1: they didn't take last year. Does that make sense? With
- 13:21Speaker 1: their easy schedule and Penn State, y'all watch out. I mean,
- 13:27Speaker 1: I don't think Matt Campbell's better than James Franklin. I
- 13:29Speaker 1: think it's kind of a push, maybe a slight slide
- 13:32Speaker 1: edge to James Franklin. But y'all, that Penn State schedule
- 13:36Speaker 1: is absurd how easy it is. So I think that's
- 13:39Speaker 1: something to keep an eye on. Is we're thinking how
- 13:41Speaker 1: many spots are there depending on where Ole Miss finishes, Texas, Georgia, LSU,
- 13:48Speaker 1: Bama teams that we believe have a chance to make
- 13:53Speaker 1: the college football playoff? Is that fair?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Jake? Yeah, No, you're actually right. I mean, I think
- 13:58Speaker 2: it'll be ten and two, especially once we get to
- 14:01Speaker 2: you know, mid middle of October and half the season
- 14:03Speaker 2: done and see who's who's butt and where and who's
- 14:07Speaker 2: one who hasn't and and what conferences or you know,
- 14:10Speaker 2: trending and not. But yeah, that's why I just think
- 14:12Speaker 2: on the outside, I'm just playing that you know, advocate
- 14:15Speaker 2: Devil's advocate of a nine and three could but I
- 14:17Speaker 2: think you've got to have the right nine and the
- 14:19Speaker 2: right three because there's going to be plenty of ten
- 14:22Speaker 2: and two's across the country and especially in the Big Ten,
- 14:24Speaker 2: because yeah, Indiana's also got a cupcake of a schedule.
- 14:28Speaker 2: After a Signatty says, we don't really run, we don't
- 14:31Speaker 2: really run from anybody, and they you know, I know
- 14:33Speaker 2: he doesn't sit there and make the schedule, but he
- 14:35Speaker 2: does that. That's his schedule this year. And Notre Dame.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Everybody jokes about Notre Dame schedule. It is what it is.
- 14:41Speaker 2: There's bobby reason they decided to get back to the
- 14:43Speaker 2: table and say Southern cal has play again in three years.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Uh to add another one to their schedule, but that
- 14:49Speaker 2: doesn't matter for this year. And Penn State they've got some,
- 14:52Speaker 2: but they avoid a lot of the big boogeymen of
- 14:54Speaker 2: the Big Ten. They've got some someones, but you know
- 14:56Speaker 2: a lot of it's, you know, kind of come down
- 14:58Speaker 2: to just a Penn State a little bit better than
- 15:00Speaker 2: last year. And if that's the case, then yeah, they'll
- 15:02Speaker 2: get in when you releast expect them. To so oh Miss.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I mean, I think that best case or worst case
- 15:08Speaker 2: scenario for almost they've got to start five and one
- 15:12Speaker 2: heading to Texas. I think, you know they've got to
- 15:14Speaker 2: you know, I can give him one somewhere, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 2: LSU Florida, just because that's a tough two weeks for anybody.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Uh So, if they're five and one head into Texas,
- 15:23Speaker 2: I think they're in a good spot. If they're worse
- 15:25Speaker 2: than that, it's going to be a tough back end
- 15:26Speaker 2: of the season, I think with who they have after.
- 15:28Speaker 1: That, No, that's fair enough. Jake Thompson, Ole Miss Spirit,
- 15:32Speaker 1: Ole Miss Insider. Everything gets kicked off tomorrow and we're
- 15:36Speaker 1: all ready and just in a few weeks they'll be
- 15:40Speaker 1: in Nashville playing the Louisville Cardinal and Jeff Bram And
- 15:44Speaker 1: again Louisville has no experience at quarterback. They grabbed a
- 15:47Speaker 1: guy from West Georgia and a guy from Ohio State,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and evidently the guy from West Georgia played better than
- 15:52Speaker 1: the guy from Ohio State in the spring game. I
- 15:54Speaker 1: don't know what to make of that roll most of that,
- 15:58Speaker 1: but we'll see Jake Thompson on ESPN one five nine
- 16:02Speaker 1: the zone driven by your next GMC Sierra truck at Fowler,
- 16:06Speaker 1: GMC Pearl Brandon. Yeah, that Penn State schedule, that Notre
- 16:11Speaker 1: Dame schedule, and that Indiana schedule. Good Lord cupcakes for days, baby,
- 16:19Speaker 1: all right, D line. I want to go back to
- 16:20Speaker 1: the D line in Eccles No, no, no, the defense
- 16:22Speaker 1: as a whole. Jake Thompson, we did this a little
- 16:27Speaker 1: bit last time you were on. But I'd like to
- 16:28Speaker 1: get and I know Eccles and Perkins, but I want
- 16:31Speaker 1: you to rank them too. I want you to give
- 16:33Speaker 1: me your top four or five defensive players for Pete
- 16:41Speaker 1: Golding going into twenty twenty six.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Five I'll go five to one. I'll say five. I'm
- 16:51Speaker 2: gonna go Antonio Kite a secondary just because he had
- 16:56Speaker 2: a he had a great year last year with all
- 16:58Speaker 2: the uncertainty coming in after how he left Auburn and
- 17:01Speaker 2: played better as the year got on. I think he
- 17:04Speaker 2: will be a key guy. Uh. Four, I'm gonna say
- 17:08Speaker 2: it's uh Keaton the linebacker from Keaton Thomas from Baylor.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I think he's gonna be your green dot guy. Uh.
- 17:18Speaker 2: You know, the linebackers an entirely new makeover. You know,
- 17:21Speaker 2: take Perkins out of it because he's such a hybrid
- 17:23Speaker 2: you can put him in either room. But traditional linebacker
- 17:26Speaker 2: Keaton Thomas, I think it's going to be a key guy. Uh.
- 17:28Speaker 2: You know, I could go four B there with Luke
- 17:31Speaker 2: for Elliot, the Cal transfer who's obviously everybody knows his
- 17:34Speaker 2: name for different reasons, but I think he's only played
- 17:37Speaker 2: one year at Cal. But I think, you know, Pete
- 17:40Speaker 2: Golding knows how to coach linebackers, and he's got two
- 17:42Speaker 2: new guys to help coach that room since he's got
- 17:45Speaker 2: you know, a lot more going on. But I think
- 17:47Speaker 2: he Keaton kind of four A four B there.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Uh.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Then three, I'm gonna say Cam Franklin. I think the
- 17:54Speaker 2: Lake Corman guy takes a step up. Uh. And then two,
- 17:59Speaker 2: you know, because I'm going to be unique with one,
- 18:02Speaker 2: but two, I'm going to say Blake Purchase the Oregon
- 18:05Speaker 2: defensive end. Uh. I think he's going to be a
- 18:08Speaker 2: key guy on the other end. With Cam Franklin, that's
- 18:10Speaker 2: a newcomer that's coming in and I think can thrive
- 18:13Speaker 2: well with you know, we've seen how good Randall join
- 18:15Speaker 2: Er develops guys on the defensive line and gets them
- 18:18Speaker 2: NFL ready or at least have a shot to play
- 18:20Speaker 2: at the NFL. So I think that's going to be
- 18:22Speaker 2: a guy to watch. And then one is just kind
- 18:25Speaker 2: of your two MVPs. I think of the entire defense
- 18:27Speaker 2: or will need to be and Echols and Perkins. I
- 18:29Speaker 2: know I kind of cheated there, but you know that's
- 18:31Speaker 2: that's how I view the defense right now.
- 18:33Speaker 1: No, that was good. That's what we needed, all right.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So we've got transfers from Baylor, Oregon and cal slash
- 18:41Speaker 1: Clemson that are on the list with Jake Thompson, and
- 18:46Speaker 1: then we've got some returning guys that played really well
- 18:51Speaker 1: for ole Miss last year. And that's I think that's
- 18:55Speaker 1: the big question, like how the defense is going to
- 19:00Speaker 1: be good? Will they be unbelievable? Yeah, I think that's
- 19:03Speaker 1: the question in Oxford, and.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I think for ole Miss they don't have to be
- 19:08Speaker 2: unbelievable just to touch better because look how far they
- 19:10Speaker 2: got last year with that defense that I think it
- 19:13Speaker 2: was not as good as what's on paper This year
- 19:15Speaker 2: in certain areas. I think they got better at linebacker
- 19:17Speaker 2: as a whole with depth, and I think they got
- 19:20Speaker 2: better in the secondary with some guys that came in,
- 19:22Speaker 2: but we just haven't gotten to see them much, so
- 19:24Speaker 2: it's hard to say it, but you know, I think
- 19:26Speaker 2: if they're just slightly better than last year, and obviously
- 19:29Speaker 2: the offense can do what it's expected to do with
- 19:31Speaker 2: two preseason Heisman contenders, that they've got a chance to
- 19:35Speaker 2: get to that tenant too and make another run and
- 19:37Speaker 2: see if you know, somehow they're one of the two
- 19:40Speaker 2: in Vegas?
- 19:41Speaker 1: All right, cool, we'll wrap it up with food and beverage.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Have you been to the Ship restaurant up there?
- 19:50Speaker 2: I have not. My brother who used to live here,
- 19:54Speaker 2: went there frequently and he enjoyed it. I had never
- 19:57Speaker 2: made it there. I've got to expand my rotation of restaurants.
- 20:01Speaker 2: It's kind of a sad, you know, for you know,
- 20:03Speaker 2: habitual rotation that I've just got myself into over the
- 20:06Speaker 2: decade plus i've lived here.
- 20:08Speaker 1: No, that's cool, I've been. It's it's a fantastic place.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Have you been to Miscellaneous?
- 20:14Speaker 2: Not all right?
- 20:15Speaker 1: We got to get Jake Thompson. Uh, My guys Dole
- 20:19Speaker 1: Bron and Patrick Kelly have to get uh Jake to
- 20:23Speaker 1: the sip and to Miscellaneous for the right mojo for
- 20:27Speaker 1: old miss this year. All right, tell me your your
- 20:30Speaker 1: your I don't know. Free restaurant rotation, Jake Thompson.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Oh, my rotation is Ajax on the Square if you like,
- 20:39Speaker 2: if you're just needing some some good home cooking, that's
- 20:42Speaker 2: you know, you know, like you you know, Golden Crown
- 20:44Speaker 2: type stuff, you're your good soaking cooking. Ajax has got
- 20:47Speaker 2: that in all different ways.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Uh.
- 20:50Speaker 2: If you're feeling like, uh, you know, a good burrito,
- 20:53Speaker 2: good taco, I go to South Depot on the Square. Uh.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And let's see a third one. I'm trying to think
- 21:01Speaker 2: there's there's ones that are worthy, but I'm gonna go uh,
- 21:04Speaker 2: I not try it yet. I'm planning to try it
- 21:06Speaker 2: today or tomorrow. But I'm gonna just throw in a
- 21:08Speaker 2: new one that and I'm probably butcher in the name
- 21:10Speaker 2: app Applos applos oh applos.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Yeah, they started here.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Oxford got one up. I think it opened sometime last
- 21:17Speaker 2: month and so it's everybody seems to love it. So
- 21:20Speaker 2: I want to throw that one out there.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you'll love the eros and everything else that
- 21:24Speaker 1: they're doing because they started here in Jackson. All right, Uh,
- 21:27Speaker 1: Jake Thompson, you're gonna have a busy, busy year, busy August,
- 21:31Speaker 1: and uh, you'll be hanging out with us a good bit.
- 21:34Speaker 1: We appreciate you and we'll talk soon.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I appreciate you guys, Thanks a lot, all.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Right, man ole Miss Spirit on three Jake Thompson talking
- 21:44Speaker 1: Ole Miss football. This is now Pete Golding's team. This
- 21:49Speaker 1: is now Pete Golding's team.
