Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Hello, welcome back to Inside the Tape On Inside the Birds,
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan and of course to
- 0:15Speaker 1: break down the tape from the Eagles win over the Vikings.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The defensive tape, because we already did the offense is
- 0:23Speaker 1: Greg Cosell and Greg. Let's just started the Eagles win
- 0:27Speaker 1: twenty eight twenty two. Yeah, I think a lot of
- 0:30Speaker 1: Eagles fans were not surprised to see Carson Wentz doing
- 0:34Speaker 1: some really strange footwork things in the pocket, running around,
- 0:37Speaker 1: throwing a few picks, getting hit, but then also making
- 0:40Speaker 1: some plays athletic plays, especially in the second half. So
- 0:44Speaker 1: you watch tape, what's the big picture take away from
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Eagles defense in this game?
- 0:50Speaker 2: You know, it's funny. I think one thing that we
- 0:52Speaker 2: need to see the Eagles do better as we go
- 0:54Speaker 2: forward is they're not really rushing the quarterback at the
- 0:57Speaker 2: level you'd like to see. They had two they both
- 1:00Speaker 2: came in the fourth quarter in the red zone of
- 1:02Speaker 2: all places, which is a good thing, but I would
- 1:05Speaker 2: say overall that that's an area where they need to improve. Now,
- 1:08Speaker 2: there are a couple of things that you know, were
- 1:10Speaker 2: clearly noticeable in this game. What they did with Johod Campbell.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I mean in their base defense, he played on the edge.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Now I don't know if that happened, you know with Ojelari,
- 1:20Speaker 2: you know, playing four snaps. We don't know that. But
- 1:22Speaker 2: ultimately what they did when o Glari went out after
- 1:25Speaker 2: four snaps with the hamstring was Campbell ended up being
- 1:29Speaker 2: an edge player in their five to two base front
- 1:33Speaker 2: and n Kobe Dean played as a stack backer. So
- 1:35Speaker 2: I don't know if you guys know what would have happened.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Would Chris Dean ended up playing thirty one snaps, So
- 1:40Speaker 2: I don't know how that would have played out. Now,
- 1:42Speaker 2: there were snaps where Dean did play in the nickel
- 1:45Speaker 2: with Bond and Campbell was not on the field. We
- 1:48Speaker 2: were maybe seven or eight of those. But you know,
- 1:52Speaker 2: again we don't know what would have happened if OI
- 1:54Speaker 2: didn't get hurt. But that's the way Campbell played. But
- 1:57Speaker 2: they did not use Campbell as a pass rusher. He
- 1:59Speaker 2: did not have any snaps as an edge player when
- 2:02Speaker 2: they were in their nickel.
- 2:04Speaker 1: HM, that is interesting. How would you evaluate his pass
- 2:07Speaker 1: rush when he was moved down even in base.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Well, it wasn't really a pass against situation. You know, Yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 2: it wasn't pin your ears back and go get the quarterback.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Good point, good point. All right. So that's interesting that
- 2:21Speaker 1: they didn't use him in the nickel, especially with Oseelari out.
- 2:23Speaker 1: You would have thought that that would have been.
- 2:25Speaker 2: The Thing that really stood out to me was how
- 2:28Speaker 2: much Carson Wentz worked outside the numbers in this game.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I mean that's he threw twenty eight balls outside the numbers,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and they were really effective working outside the numbers in
- 2:38Speaker 2: this game. I mean, twenty eight balls throwing outside the
- 2:41Speaker 2: numbers is a lot of throws. And he was sixteen
- 2:44Speaker 2: for twenty eight for two thirty three, and he had
- 2:46Speaker 2: the one really bad interception on that reckless throw down
- 2:48Speaker 2: the field. You know, I'm sure Eagles fans are like,
- 2:51Speaker 2: that's the Carson Wentz we know and love, especially when
- 2:53Speaker 2: he's playing for the other team. But but you know,
- 2:56Speaker 2: for the most part, it really worked effectively working outside
- 2:59Speaker 2: the numbers.
- 3:01Speaker 3: All right.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Well, that's I'll mentioned to see what Greg thinks of
- 3:07Speaker 4: We know the pastor says has been great, but Jalen Carter, Greg,
- 3:11Speaker 4: and I'm sure we'll get into it. What were your
- 3:13Speaker 4: thoughts about Jalen Carter because that sack they had a
- 3:16Speaker 4: went well. I mean the hit for the interception, that
- 3:18Speaker 4: was a he man play.
- 3:19Speaker 3: He looked so good. Did he look physically back.
- 3:22Speaker 2: No, I would say that he had just a couple
- 3:25Speaker 2: of plays where he said that's Jalen Carter. But I
- 3:27Speaker 2: don't think you know, snap after snap after snap, was
- 3:31Speaker 2: he a dominant player obviously on that interception or turn
- 3:34Speaker 2: with Jeff, I'm sure we're going to see. You know,
- 3:38Speaker 2: that was fascinating for many reasons. I'll leave that till
- 3:40Speaker 2: we see it, just because you know, it's better if
- 3:42Speaker 2: people see what the look was as a And by
- 3:45Speaker 2: the way, I think that was the first time I
- 3:47Speaker 2: can recall seeing that, and I don't think they came
- 3:49Speaker 2: back to that look the rest of the game, which
- 3:52Speaker 2: in some way surprised me. But I'm certainly not as
- 3:54Speaker 2: smart as Vic fangiol So I'm not going to sit
- 3:56Speaker 2: here and say, gee, why didn't he do it? That's bad?
- 3:58Speaker 2: You know, he knows way tour than I do. But
- 4:01Speaker 2: I was fascinated by that look and how it played out.
- 4:04Speaker 2: And Adam, you're right on that play, he was a man,
- 4:06Speaker 2: but he didn't have a lot you know, and again,
- 4:09Speaker 2: no tackle's gonna have twenty of those plays in a game.
- 4:11Speaker 2: But I didn't think he was a dominant force. What
- 4:14Speaker 2: do you guys think? Did you think he was a
- 4:16Speaker 2: dominant force?
- 4:18Speaker 1: I M takeaway well, watching every single defensive snap, was
- 4:20Speaker 1: that he played better than the last few weeks.
- 4:22Speaker 2: But I thought but still your point.
- 4:24Speaker 1: He had some really vicious hits, like two or three
- 4:26Speaker 1: that made it seem like he was doing that all day.
- 4:34Speaker 1: That sounds fair like the flashiness of it where when
- 4:36Speaker 1: he did make it hit it was a pretty impactful one.
- 4:38Speaker 2: But it wasn't again no d tackle, like I said,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you know, maybe Aaron Donald here and there, but no
- 4:45Speaker 2: tackle you know, has twenty five you know, Oh my god,
- 4:49Speaker 2: dominant plays. The game doesn't work like that. But I
- 4:52Speaker 2: thought he was better this week, but still not the
- 4:54Speaker 2: Jalen Carter we know he can be.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Well that on that.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Point, Chaff was he sent it back to you here
- 4:59Speaker 4: that going forward for them is just that when the
- 5:03Speaker 4: Giants game this week will be the last game before
- 5:04Speaker 4: the buy, it's a major self scout challenge for Clint Hurt,
- 5:09Speaker 4: Vic Fangio and Jeremiah Washburn somehow to find more pastures
- 5:12Speaker 4: and obviously Howie Roseman adds one or two players going
- 5:16Speaker 4: for whether it's trade street, free agents, are both. Because
- 5:19Speaker 4: the past rush apparently the last season a minute's it's
- 5:22Speaker 4: just much worse. And I don't know how unless Carter
- 5:25Speaker 4: gets himself all the way back physically because he's got
- 5:28Speaker 4: the shoulder now of the heel.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I just don't know what they can do internally because
- 5:31Speaker 3: they're running out of the player.
- 5:33Speaker 2: It has to be schemed because the players are the players,
- 5:36Speaker 2: you know, event you know, they're not all of a
- 5:38Speaker 2: sudden going to be you know, Jaylex Hunt, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 2: is a nice player for what he is, but obviously
- 5:43Speaker 2: he's not yet a pass rusher. Ojilaris now it's a hamstring,
- 5:46Speaker 2: so we don't know what his status is, you know.
- 5:49Speaker 2: So you know ushe solid but not dominant, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 2: by any means. So they really don't have that guy
- 5:56Speaker 2: on the edge. There's no one you have to game
- 5:58Speaker 2: plan for in the age when you lay eagles.
- 6:00Speaker 1: All right, So last question on that, because we've talked
- 6:02Speaker 1: every week about vix Blick vix blitz percentage.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And it was low this week.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It was low this week, so this was another coverage game.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Then yeah, I mean they had some four man sim pressures,
- 6:14Speaker 2: which they probably categorize as pressures because that's what teams do.
- 6:19Speaker 2: But he did not rush five. I don't think he
- 6:22Speaker 2: rushed five more than five or six times in the game,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and they and obviously Wentz had a lot of dropbacks.
- 6:27Speaker 1: All right, well, then let's start taking a look at
- 6:30Speaker 1: the film here to see what we've got. Hey, you
- 6:33Speaker 1: know that one guy in the group chat who hit
- 6:36Speaker 1: a five leg parlay week one and he wouldn't shut
- 6:39Speaker 1: up about it for the rest of the season.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Sounds like Kaplan, right, Yeah, yeah, it.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Could be him, It could be you, and we would

- 8:36Speaker 6: Download today and use code birds. Your first stake on
- 8:40Speaker 6: the app is risk free, that's code birds for a
- 8:43Speaker 6: risk free first stake. And I believe the first play
- 8:46Speaker 6: is the this one is. This is the Jordan Addison
- 8:51Speaker 6: thirty four yard reception, And I just wanted to he
- 8:54Speaker 6: got very open, Greg, and I just wanted to diagnose
- 8:57Speaker 6: what you thought, yeah were doing here.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Just don't run it yet. This was cover eight, which
- 9:03Speaker 2: means they were playing a cover two to the wide
- 9:06Speaker 2: side of the field. Okay, so cover eight means it's
- 9:09Speaker 2: it's quarters to the boundary and it's cover two to
- 9:12Speaker 2: the wide side of the field. So basically it's almost
- 9:16Speaker 2: the kind of play where Kevin o' kind of anticipated
- 9:19Speaker 2: what he might get because he runs two verticals to
- 9:22Speaker 2: the wide side of the field. So it essentially becomes
- 9:24Speaker 2: a two to on one on Andrew mccuba because the
- 9:27Speaker 2: corner is a flat player in cover two, so it's
- 9:31Speaker 2: two on one versus mccuba. Now we can sit here
- 9:34Speaker 2: and say he should have reacted better to Addison, but
- 9:37Speaker 2: that's Jefferson running right at him until he breaks it off.
- 9:40Speaker 2: And Jefferson runs a good what fifteen yards before he
- 9:43Speaker 2: breaks inside, So mccuba, you know, he's he's kind of
- 9:48Speaker 2: stuck here. This is actually a crappy throw. If he
- 9:52Speaker 2: makes a really good throw, this might have had a
- 9:54Speaker 2: different result, you know, a better result for the Vikings
- 9:57Speaker 2: and a worst result for the Eagles. But it becomes
- 10:00Speaker 2: two on one on maccuba. So again I don't know
- 10:02Speaker 2: how they coach him. You know, maybe he's supposed to
- 10:04Speaker 2: expand a little more and play a little more a
- 10:07Speaker 2: midpoint of it, because now, because Blankenship has no go
- 10:12Speaker 2: back if you freeze it, there's no number two on
- 10:15Speaker 2: Blankenship side attacking him. So maybe the feeling is with
- 10:20Speaker 2: mccooba that he's got to expand a little more and
- 10:22Speaker 2: that blanken Ship becomes a factor on Jefferson's vertical. But
- 10:26Speaker 2: still it's Jefferson running right at you. So I don't
- 10:29Speaker 2: know how they coach it, but it essentially plays out
- 10:31Speaker 2: as a two on one on mccooba.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Right, all right, So that's that's basically how a guy
- 10:36Speaker 1: can get open like that.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Right, This is not a bust, right, people understand that.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Now there was argument about well, and again I don't
- 10:47Speaker 2: know exactly how they coach it, because I remember speaking
- 10:50Speaker 2: with Matt Bowen numerous times and he was would always
- 10:53Speaker 2: talk about, you know, certain plays, and I wish I
- 10:55Speaker 2: could remember specifically about Hey, you got to be two
- 10:57Speaker 2: yards inside the numbers, you got to be two yards
- 10:59Speaker 2: in side the hats she got, you know, going through
- 11:01Speaker 2: different coverages when you're a deep player. So I don't
- 11:04Speaker 2: remember specifically. So maybe he did not play it properly.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But it's not a bust in the way people think
- 11:10Speaker 2: about busts.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Right, You're right, that was a crappy throw. I think
- 11:16Speaker 1: this would be the alternative angle to that.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, probably, Yeah, it's a bad throw.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I actually could have been a touchdown if he
- 11:28Speaker 1: threw it to the correct shoulder I guess correct.
- 11:30Speaker 2: If if he threw it where he should have it,
- 11:32Speaker 2: who knows what would have happened. Then then mccoob would
- 11:34Speaker 2: have made a tackle. And unfortunately he's been missing a
- 11:37Speaker 2: few down the field in the last couple of weeks. Yes,
- 11:39Speaker 2: open field.
- 11:41Speaker 1: So this is the first big Carson Wentz blunder, the
- 11:44Speaker 1: uh interception that Jelex Hunt is going to get in return.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It tough to I mean, look, the bottom line is
- 11:51Speaker 2: Wins didn't process this. But you know, we've seen quarterbacks.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I've talked to Kurt Warner about this, and he said
- 11:56Speaker 2: The toughest thing for him was always when a defensive
- 11:59Speaker 2: lineman or a first level defender dropped out because you
- 12:01Speaker 2: just don't expect it. You know, it's just not something
- 12:04Speaker 2: that you automatically think about.
- 12:05Speaker 7: Mahomes devil Lloyd. He just didn't expect it, right, Yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 7: I mean, but anyway, the point is, look, look at
- 12:12Speaker 7: this front. That's Jalen Carter, who's kind of off the
- 12:16Speaker 7: ball in a three point stance. Okay, I don't recall
- 12:20Speaker 7: seeing this look this year. I don't want to say that.
- 12:23Speaker 7: You know, maybe I missed it one time, but I
- 12:25Speaker 7: don't recall seeing this look.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Do you guys know?
- 12:28Speaker 1: Not at all?
- 12:29Speaker 2: Okay, So again, they did it for a reason. You know,
- 12:33Speaker 2: VI's not we won't be ringing me up after we're done.
- 12:36Speaker 2: So you know, I don't know what the reason is.
- 12:39Speaker 3: No, no, no, I'm just kidding.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But you know, so they did this intentionally because the
- 12:44Speaker 2: center is not very good in past protection and now
- 12:47Speaker 2: the one on one because it's essentially a five man front.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Even though he's a little off the ball. It almost
- 12:53Speaker 2: reminds me of the old Dallas Flex. Remember that the
- 12:57Speaker 2: guys off the off the literally off the ball. So anyway,
- 13:02Speaker 2: so he gets one on one on the center and
- 13:05Speaker 2: he just you know, kicks his ass quite frankly. And
- 13:08Speaker 2: what they do is it becomes a sim pressure. They
- 13:12Speaker 2: drop out the two outside defenders and it's a sim
- 13:15Speaker 2: pressure with Bond becoming the fourth rusher. Okay, So what
- 13:19Speaker 2: happens now is when he's not responding to Carter here,
- 13:25Speaker 2: he thinks he's got Jefferson wide open on the quick slant. Okay,
- 13:30Speaker 2: thinks he's wide open, which he basically is. He does
- 13:33Speaker 2: not process Hunt at all. Now. It it looks great
- 13:37Speaker 2: like Carter makes this play, but Wentz is throwing this
- 13:40Speaker 2: ball regardless of Carter. He's already in his motion. It's
- 13:44Speaker 2: just he takes a shot because of Carter. Sure, it
- 13:47Speaker 2: didn't feel great, but Carter. Yeah, but Carter is sitting
- 13:52Speaker 2: right in the lane and it becomes, you know, an
- 13:55Speaker 2: interception or turned for a touchdown.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yep, it was a nice move. I mean he really
- 13:59Speaker 1: I guess that center got pen staff for.
- 14:00Speaker 3: The whole law. Yeah.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Jelle Nicks Hunt is off to the races.
- 14:08Speaker 1: It's funny the Eagles do not have an interception this
- 14:10Speaker 1: year from a cornerback. All of the interceptions are from
- 14:12Speaker 1: the safe season and UH and front level players. This
- 14:17Speaker 1: is from the other side of it. Greg, to your point,
- 14:19Speaker 1: I think you get a better angle on what Carson
- 14:21Speaker 1: Wentz is.
- 14:21Speaker 2: And and and you see Campbell, you know, in the
- 14:24Speaker 2: five man front here he's he's on the edge, but
- 14:26Speaker 2: he drops out.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yep, you're right, he was throwing that regard. He just
- 14:31Speaker 1: didn't see he's.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Throwing that regardless. He didn't process hunt, you know, like
- 14:35Speaker 2: I said it, you know when when an edge player
- 14:37Speaker 2: on the ball drops out, some quarterbacks don't process it.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I mean, that was the original concept, if you know,
- 14:44Speaker 2: with and Dick Lebow didn't create it, and he'd be
- 14:47Speaker 2: the first to tell you he didn't create it, but
- 14:49Speaker 2: that was the original concept behind his own blitz concept
- 14:52Speaker 2: back in the day when it was kind of new
- 14:55Speaker 2: in the league and it wasn't used very much. You'd
- 14:57Speaker 2: see that a good amount where quarterbacks had no idea, yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 2: that a first level defender would drop out and they
- 15:03Speaker 2: throw it to him, you know what I mean, because
- 15:05Speaker 2: they didn't. They just wasn't expected, all right.
- 15:08Speaker 1: This is just I don't know how you would describe
- 15:11Speaker 1: it other than bonehead. I mean, it's second and twenty seven,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and if you're talking about this interception that he throws, yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like the philosophy on second and
- 15:18Speaker 1: twenty seven is you're hoping to get nine to twelve
- 15:21Speaker 1: yards so that you can make your third down a
- 15:22Speaker 1: little more manageable.
- 15:24Speaker 2: These are the kind of plays that, unfortunately, you know,
- 15:26Speaker 2: they haven't happened hardly at all since Wentz has started
- 15:29Speaker 2: four games, by the way, and he's probably going to
- 15:30Speaker 2: start a fifth game because they play Thursday night, So
- 15:33Speaker 2: I doubt Card is playing Thursday night, you know. But
- 15:37Speaker 2: you know, this is the kind of play that unfortunately,
- 15:39Speaker 2: you know, fans in Philly got used to a little
- 15:41Speaker 2: too often, which he hasn't really done this year very
- 15:44Speaker 2: much at all. Right, And I don't again, I'm not
- 15:47Speaker 2: in Carson Wentz's head, so I I you know, you
- 15:50Speaker 2: can look at this play and go oh, I think
- 15:52Speaker 2: I understand why he threw it, but there's no point
- 15:55Speaker 2: in doing this, right.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Ego's got a decent four man rush, I believe on
- 16:00Speaker 1: his play.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I think he just kind of took off. See he
- 16:03Speaker 2: takes off, you know. So I don't know if this
- 16:06Speaker 2: was a designed role or if he just said, oh shoot,
- 16:08Speaker 2: I'm in the end zone and I'm getting out of there.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Good point.
- 16:13Speaker 2: So right now he's not registering mccouba at all. He's
- 16:17Speaker 2: thinking that he's got and what receiver is that up top?
- 16:22Speaker 2: He's thinking he's got him running across the field, you know,
- 16:26Speaker 2: just with one defender. I don't know if that's Jefferson,
- 16:28Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 16:29Speaker 1: I think that's Addison. But yeah, I thinks he's got
- 16:32Speaker 1: him on a deep over I guess.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yeah, And he thinks it's clean. He doesn't. He didn't
- 16:36Speaker 2: process mccoob at all.
- 16:37Speaker 1: No, no, And that was yep, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:44Speaker 2: So I mean that's there's there's no great technical point
- 16:48Speaker 2: about that. That was, you know, just as I said,
- 16:51Speaker 2: Eagles fans thinking Wentz is being once.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yeah. So here's here's a scramble played by Carson. I
- 16:58Speaker 1: think it's gonna be in complete, but I thought alignment
- 17:00Speaker 1: here by the Eagles, Greg. I believe that's jal and
- 17:03Speaker 1: Carter over right tackle as an edge, another different alignment
- 17:07Speaker 1: from Yre.
- 17:07Speaker 2: It is, we've seen them do this a couple of times.
- 17:10Speaker 2: That's not the first time I've seen Jalen Butter on
- 17:12Speaker 2: the edge.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I don't know in this game. I think that that
- 17:15Speaker 1: was the only time they did it, But you're right,
- 17:16Speaker 1: they've done it occasionally.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yeah, they do it on occasion.
- 17:19Speaker 1: What do you think that the goal is that just
- 17:21Speaker 1: to throw a different look you think? Or is there
- 17:23Speaker 1: something schematic here that.
- 17:27Speaker 6: Why?
- 17:29Speaker 2: Well, I think first of all, by the nature of
- 17:31Speaker 2: the front, they're getting him one on one on the tackle,
- 17:33Speaker 2: and they probably feel that he can win one on
- 17:35Speaker 2: one on the tackle. That's why josh Uche is inside
- 17:38Speaker 2: of him, because the right tackle's eyes are on Ouche
- 17:41Speaker 2: and they're getting and when the backalls set to the
- 17:43Speaker 2: other side, they're thinking they're getting a one on one
- 17:45Speaker 2: with Carter, which they probably think Carter can win.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Right. Do you think that maybe the Vikings are expecting
- 17:51Speaker 1: us stunt there when you have an edge on the
- 17:52Speaker 1: outside of an edge on the inside of the tackle
- 17:55Speaker 1: on very possible?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Yeah, very possible.
- 17:58Speaker 1: You see how we kind of like, well, I guess
- 18:00Speaker 1: it doesn't come, but then the right guard that's just
- 18:02Speaker 1: been the right guard comes late there or either that
- 18:06Speaker 1: or he just saw Carson scrambling and try to.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and actually Jomo did a nice job
- 18:11Speaker 2: with his pass rush.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I felt like the Eagles got more interior
- 18:16Speaker 1: rush in this game. The next terrier. Yeah, Jomo did
- 18:22Speaker 1: beat him pretty good.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Yep.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Brendell, Yeah, I.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Just wanted to show that because Joe and Carter lined
- 18:30Speaker 1: up on the outside and even though they have done
- 18:32Speaker 1: it before, it's not second before, but I never and
- 18:35Speaker 1: they had the way that inside made me think that
- 18:37Speaker 1: they were trying to fool the Vikings. And to think
- 18:39Speaker 1: of Stunt, well, I think that when breakdown always get
- 18:42Speaker 1: they're not generating pass rush.
- 18:43Speaker 2: And I'm sure he's looking for different fronts. He didn't
- 18:46Speaker 2: want to blitz obviously in this game. We'll see what
- 18:48Speaker 2: happens in the next game. You know, he's been week
- 18:51Speaker 2: to week in that regard. It's hard to you know, Hey,
- 18:54Speaker 2: I'm not Vic Fangil. I don't know what his thought
- 18:56Speaker 2: process is as to why one week there is pressure
- 18:58Speaker 2: in another week there's not. But in this game he
- 19:00Speaker 2: clearly chose not to pressure with five. So you're going
- 19:04Speaker 2: for different front looks where you feel that you can
- 19:07Speaker 2: win one on ones or maybe create some confree some confusion.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, now this is the third quarter here, the Oules
- 19:14Speaker 1: are only up by eight. It's fourteen six. You mentioned
- 19:17Speaker 1: the red zone defense came through and Carson's going to
- 19:21Speaker 1: have an intentional grounding here as it looks like Patrick
- 19:25Speaker 1: Johnson was the guy that got some Uh so they.
- 19:28Speaker 8: A lot in this game because Ojel already was out yep, right, yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 8: they remember they only had three edges left. Yeah, well,
- 19:38Speaker 8: this is actually a really good job by yushe too,
- 19:40Speaker 8: because he's reading potential screen here, because look at him.
- 19:43Speaker 8: If you go back to the beginning of his play, Jeff,
- 19:46Speaker 8: look at Chet, he's he's.
- 19:49Speaker 1: A cross left tackle for those who want to know. Yeah,
- 19:51Speaker 1: or listening, look at him. Oh yeah, he thought that
- 19:55Speaker 1: was a screen yep, yep. So he drifts back plays.
- 19:59Speaker 2: It and actually it might have been because that's where
- 20:01Speaker 2: Wentz is looking into the flat. It might not be
- 20:03Speaker 2: a screen, but he's looking into the flat.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Right, and Jomo does a nice job beating a double
- 20:11Speaker 1: team and collapse in the pocket there.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that was. I don't know what Wentz was thinking
- 20:16Speaker 2: there either, because there was no you know, again, they
- 20:18Speaker 2: kicked a field goal, was third down.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Right, and now here they're up twenty one sixteen, and
- 20:23Speaker 1: this is.
- 20:25Speaker 2: This is the red zone sacked by a Jomo.
- 20:27Speaker 3: This is this is a I mean, he wins your
- 20:29Speaker 3: big top.
- 20:32Speaker 1: So to your point, Vic really doesn't blitz a whole
- 20:34Speaker 1: out this game. He's relying on his pressure. He doesn't
- 20:37Speaker 1: get a lot of.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Good This was the first loaded front in the game.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It was it was third and five in the fourth quarter.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It was their first loaded front in the game. With
- 20:45Speaker 2: Jomo slanted inside from his two technique alignment and beat
- 20:49Speaker 2: the offensive center. Brandl Ucci was deployed as a spy
- 20:53Speaker 2: on Wentz and the Eagles played two man coverage here.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Yep, there, which I kind of hold up his pass
- 21:02Speaker 1: rush and be the spy, but not necessarily not necessary
- 21:06Speaker 1: because a Jomo beats his guy. Yeah, the Eagles didn't
- 21:09Speaker 1: get a lot of edge rush. They got more injury
- 21:11Speaker 1: rush to get it when they needed the most in
- 21:13Speaker 1: the in the uh in the red zone.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Yeah. So Joe most the two technique over the left
- 21:17Speaker 2: guard and then he slams inside, so he attacks the
- 21:20Speaker 2: center and he didn't a club move right there to
- 21:25Speaker 2: beat him. Yep.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And that's their third string center right at him.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Nor Brendel.
- 21:30Speaker 4: Technically they had the kid we talked about leading in
- 21:33Speaker 4: who got he got batch he had an injury, but yeah, yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 4: you could say that.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah. And then last, but not least, this is the
- 21:41Speaker 1: This is the oucha sack where it kind of puts
- 21:44Speaker 1: the Vikings way behind the eight ball. They had a
- 21:48Speaker 1: chance to bye the game here it was twenty eight
- 21:51Speaker 1: twenty two. Does Carson walk himself into the sack or
- 21:54Speaker 1: is it good good defense by the Eagles. Greg, there's
- 21:59Speaker 1: a stunt.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Let me see it again, because this again came out
- 22:01Speaker 2: of a loaded front.
- 22:03Speaker 1: He all right, so there's the loaded front. It looks
- 22:09Speaker 1: like there's a stunt at the top.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it probably is because Campbell's on the ball, so
- 22:13Speaker 2: he's occupying the left guard there it is. Yeah, there's
- 22:17Speaker 2: a stunt, short stunt.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I guess. I mean, if your Carson, you've got number
- 22:22Speaker 1: one going across the middle there.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Well, he's initially looking to his right. I don't know
- 22:27Speaker 2: if the design of this play was the stick not
- 22:30Speaker 2: go by Hockinson, and it just seemed, you know, it
- 22:33Speaker 2: took a little too long, uh huh, you know, and
- 22:37Speaker 2: it was well covered, and then he didn't really have
- 22:40Speaker 2: a chance to throw to the shallow coming in his vision.
- 22:44Speaker 2: He just didn't have time he didn't have a chance.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Right, No, this is good. I felt like the eagle's
- 22:48Speaker 1: pass or us was more timely than it was consistent,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know, red zone. When they needed a play, they
- 22:55Speaker 1: got it.
- 22:58Speaker 2: He's clearly looking, right, I think it's looking for the
- 23:00Speaker 2: stick nod. Yeah, it doesn't even look like man, he
- 23:02Speaker 2: looks outside just because the stick nod's not happening. And
- 23:06Speaker 2: then he felt pressure, he felt bodies around him.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and the chase down from behind there. Hey, fall
- 23:14Speaker 1: is planting season. Did you know that many plants and

- 25:36Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up. So
- 25:41Speaker 1: I think that's a good way to describe it. There
- 25:43Speaker 1: wasn't an imposing pass rush, but it was timely.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they had the two you know, red
- 25:47Speaker 2: zone sacks. Look watching the game, you know, live, I mean,
- 25:51Speaker 2: you know, there was a sense that I'll look to you,
- 25:54Speaker 2: it looked like the Vikings could well come back and
- 25:56Speaker 2: win this game. It didn't, see, Michael, this game was
- 25:58Speaker 2: in the bag by any means, right, you know. But
- 26:02Speaker 2: but yeah, no. I mean, hey, there's only seventeen games.
- 26:05Speaker 2: You want to win them. They did some good things,
- 26:08Speaker 2: certainly on offense, you know, I think defense there's I
- 26:12Speaker 2: don't want to say concerns, but things that they're going
- 26:14Speaker 2: to have to try to figure out. They're going to
- 26:16Speaker 2: have to try to get pressure on the quarterbacks. Somehow,
- 26:18Speaker 2: it's not happening anywhere with anywhere near the consistency they
- 26:21Speaker 2: would want it to happen. So now it's now now
- 26:25Speaker 2: to me again, you know, I think now it becomes
- 26:29Speaker 2: in coming on the coaching staff. How do you try
- 26:31Speaker 2: to create pressure because all of a sudden tomorrow these
- 26:34Speaker 2: guys are not going to become great pass rushers, right,
- 26:37Speaker 2: so you know you've got to you know, And again
- 26:40Speaker 2: it's also opponents specific. I mean, they're playing Jackson Dart.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I know the Giants beat them two weeks ago, but
- 26:45Speaker 2: Dart's not necessarily a precision pocket player at this point
- 26:49Speaker 2: in time. You know, But if you're playing one of
- 26:51Speaker 2: those guys, you know, that might become an issue.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Oh how did the Kobe game look to He played
- 26:57Speaker 3: a lot?
- 26:58Speaker 2: First? He did play a lot. You know, I was like,
- 27:01Speaker 2: I kind of like the way he plays I mean,
- 27:02Speaker 2: I think he's really good in the run game. He
- 27:04Speaker 2: shoots gaps really well. He's got a feel for that.
- 27:06Speaker 2: You know, he plays downhill. That's how I noticed him
- 27:10Speaker 2: in this game.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I thought. I mean, I think they chose
- 27:14Speaker 1: the opportunity with especially being to be able to move
- 27:16Speaker 1: Campbell around a little bit right and his feet wet
- 27:19Speaker 1: on defense. Last week it was special teams, right, this
- 27:21Speaker 1: week it's on defense, and it gives Vic that optionality.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Look, I can tell you you're a fact from talking
- 27:26Speaker 2: to coaches in the building that they thought Dean last
- 27:30Speaker 2: year till he got hurt, like the last seven eight
- 27:31Speaker 2: weeks of the season, played really high level football. So
- 27:34Speaker 2: it's not like they're putting a guy out there that
- 27:36Speaker 2: they don't think can play. I mean, they really thought
- 27:38Speaker 2: he played high level football last year, down to stretch.
- 27:41Speaker 4: I'm just glad that he's back from a devastating the
- 27:43Speaker 4: injury worse than an ACL. Yeah, Teller Tenant is bad,
- 27:47Speaker 4: but good story, you know, he he I'll be interested
- 27:50Speaker 4: to see what they do with Chemic because Greg said, folks,
- 27:52Speaker 4: if you missed it earlier, Campbell might have you might
- 27:55Speaker 4: have thought he was really an Antresser.
- 27:56Speaker 3: He really wasn't in this game, right, So Jeff, if.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Ready for Sunday and they have not made a trade
- 28:03Speaker 4: by Wednesday, will they start pricing for this game? I
- 28:07Speaker 4: don't know what they're gonna do because the only guy
- 28:08Speaker 4: they have the practice squad has never played in the game,
- 28:10Speaker 4: and he was a Brady Cutlets is Pale Ryland.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Right Virginia Tech. Yes, yeah, well, you know, I mean,
- 28:19Speaker 2: Campbell still played every snap button nine in this game.
- 28:22Speaker 2: It's not like Campbell got taken off the field in
- 28:24Speaker 2: a meaningful way, So it'd be interesting to see what
- 28:27Speaker 2: they do going forward, you know. Maybe. Now, look normally,
- 28:32Speaker 2: I mean, obviously Mitchell did play this week, so that
- 28:34Speaker 2: his hamstring injury couldn't have been major. But assuming oh
- 28:37Speaker 2: Jeli is out, he's probably not gonna be able to practice.
- 28:40Speaker 2: First of all, even if it's not serious, he probably
- 28:42Speaker 2: won't be able to practice. So the question is, will
- 28:45Speaker 2: they give Campbell more reps and try to use him
- 28:48Speaker 2: more as a pass rusher. They probably didn't do that
- 28:51Speaker 2: last week because o Jeli was okay, So now will
- 28:54Speaker 2: they try to do that this week? You know, in
- 28:56Speaker 2: case because don't forget one more injury, and you know
- 29:00Speaker 2: to a pass rusher, you know, Campbell's gonna have to
- 29:02Speaker 2: be the pass rusher.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Yeah, or I mean they could always bring to you
- 29:05Speaker 4: Von cursback, Brandy grit Yes, he knows when he'd be
- 29:12Speaker 4: ready to practice even yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 2: You know, but even if that were to happen, he's
- 29:16Speaker 2: not going to be ready this one.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Come on playing.
- 29:19Speaker 2: I mean, he's not playing this week no matter what.
- 29:22Speaker 2: So yeah, and again I don't know what their feeling
- 29:25Speaker 2: is about the Virginia Tech kid, you know, Powell Ryland.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I mean, he was an interesting guy when I did
- 29:29Speaker 2: his tape. And again I'm not saying he would step
- 29:32Speaker 2: into the NFL and be a factor, but he was
- 29:34Speaker 2: one of those guys that when you looked at his
- 29:37Speaker 2: his physical traits, he doesn't you know, he doesn't check
- 29:41Speaker 2: the boxes per se, but he seemed to have a
- 29:44Speaker 2: knack for rushing the quarterback. There's always those guys that
- 29:47Speaker 2: just sometimes seemed to have a knack. Again, I don't
- 29:49Speaker 2: know if that would translate to the league. That's what
- 29:51Speaker 2: he looked like in college, but he doesn't have the
- 29:54Speaker 2: physical traits you ideally desire.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I think the reality is and you said it earlier
- 29:58Speaker 1: when we showed it. I think Patrick john And would
- 30:00Speaker 1: be the one who probably sees the uptick.
- 30:02Speaker 3: I agree in reps.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And he actually seems to flash when he plays, so
- 30:06Speaker 1: that'll be something that And.
- 30:07Speaker 2: He's got pretty good size too. He's not a light,
- 30:09Speaker 2: you know. I mean, look, the bottom line is, I'm
- 30:12Speaker 2: assuming I don't want special teams. You guys may know
- 30:14Speaker 2: more than may not, No, more than I do. He
- 30:16Speaker 2: must be a good special teams player. He's on the
- 30:19Speaker 2: roster every year. Yeah, yeah, he is.
- 30:22Speaker 3: That's his deal number.
- 30:23Speaker 2: He's on the roster every year, so he's there.
- 30:26Speaker 3: You like, did you like him a little bit from Tulayne?
- 30:28Speaker 2: Right from Patrick Johnson?
- 30:30Speaker 1: Caroline?
- 30:30Speaker 3: I thought he was Carolina.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Wait, no, I'm sorry, right tune. Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I like him coming out because they actually had two guys.
- 30:41Speaker 2: I think the other guy was Cam Sample who's on
- 30:43Speaker 2: the Bengals. If I'm not mistaken Craft, he's like a
- 30:45Speaker 2: fourth Edgress. Yeah yeah, but I like Patrick Johnson.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Nice, good, good stuff. All right. We might be talking
- 30:51Speaker 1: about him next week when we do inside the tape
- 30:53Speaker 1: coming off the next Giants game, but for now, that
- 30:56Speaker 1: is the Vikings defensive tape for Greg Cosel and Adam
- 30:59Speaker 1: Kapple and I'm Jeff Mosher, and you've been watching inside
- 31:02Speaker 1: the tape, inside the Birds
