- 0:00And it's Sarah no support workers podcast.
- 0:02I am your host Sarah. I am doing a solo episode today
- 0:06on a topic that I really enjoy talking about.
- 0:09And I hope you don't mind using ChatGPT in everyday NDIS
- 0:14support, how we can do that. So let's run straight into this.
- 0:17We're talking all things about ChatGPT AI and how to work that.
- 0:22And I know you guys are probably, you know, maybe a
- 0:25little bit scared in a way because using technology like
- 0:28this for our support workers has and always been our priority as
- 0:32support workers. It was kind of something, you
- 0:34know, we know we have to do, but it's not something in our
- 0:36forefront of how to use it. And when I talk about this, I'm
- 0:40not talking about it in like a robot's takeover, Skynet over
- 0:44the world type of way. It's real.
- 0:46It's everyday support workers and the way that we are using it
- 0:50and how I would use ChatGPT as a NDIS support worker in this
- 0:54space and how can really help because ChatGPT has this
- 0:58capacity and I mean this because I've seen it and I've done it
- 1:02and I'm bringing it here to you guys today to create really
- 1:05meaningful programs and activities to the people that we
- 1:08serve without over like without overcooking it or overthinking
- 1:12it and a way that is very clear. So you're probably wondering,
- 1:15why does this all matter now in 2026?
- 1:19All right, support workers already do a lot.
- 1:21We already, we do, we already do a lot.
- 1:24We plan, we think, we adjust, we problem solve all day every day
- 1:29for the people that we serve. But chat GP, ChatGPT and AI
- 1:33cannot replace us because the people we serve still need
- 1:36humans and they need us and need us to support them in ways that
- 1:41AI can never do. And I want you guys to think of
- 1:44ChatGPT as like having another brain, like having a second
- 1:47brain, you know, a planning buddy, somebody you can bounce
- 1:50ideas off. You're still human and you're
- 1:52still the relationship. This just helps you think
- 1:56smarter, harder, faster, sorry, something like a Daft Punk song.
- 2:00And if you're yeah, if you know who Daft Punk is, we have night
- 2:04cream. OK, so how could I use ChatGPT
- 2:07as a support worker? All right, we're going to talk
- 2:09about planning activities as a support worker using ChatGPT to
- 2:13help me plan activities. For example, I would say
- 2:16something to ChatGPT like and I do it over the voiceover like I
- 2:20voice over it. I don't don't like because I
- 2:23feel like that's the way that I connect better and I get a
- 2:26better outcome in my because the way that we prompt is really
- 2:28important. So I would write something or
- 2:31you know, I'd say over the dictation create can Hey, can
- 2:35you create help me create together three community
- 2:39activities for a person with and you can click if you can put
- 2:44disabilities down if you need to, or you can put down the
- 2:48person's preferences and their excitement and what they will
- 2:51get the most out of. And boom, Tetra PT will give you
- 2:55the ideas. And remember, you can ask it
- 2:58more than one prompt and ask it to elaborate and to work with
- 3:01you. Think of it as you guys are
- 3:02repaired, like you've got your own VA.
- 3:06So I wouldn't also like when you're doing this, I wouldn't
- 3:08just copy and paste blindly. I would adapt it to be personal
- 3:12to what you need. And when you get stuck for ideas
- 3:15and it happens a lot because you feel like sometimes you're on a
- 3:17hamster wheel and you're living Groundhog Day over and over.
- 3:21You need to be able to create something.
- 3:23And Chachipity gives you that opportunity to think outside of
- 3:26the box and expand it. But it's all to do with the
- 3:28prompts. So we all have those days where
- 3:30you're thinking, what the hell am I going to do today because
- 3:34we've got community access. I know I'm not not allowed to
- 3:36come back to the house that they live in.
- 3:39Sorry if you're listening to this podcast right now, you
- 3:43cannot see my face, but I'm giving you suggestive eyes what
- 3:46I think of that topic. No chat CPD is really great for
- 3:50you can ask it, you know. What indoor activities could I
- 3:53do at a community house? What low cost budget ideas and
- 3:58activities could I do in the city of Melbourne with a person
- 4:02that's got a Mikey card, a companion card and their
- 4:06allocated amount that they could spend today is $10.
- 4:10What activities can we do on rainy days?
- 4:12Can you give me a list of activities I could do with rainy
- 4:15days? And this person enjoys the
- 4:16following types of activities. Can you help me structure this
- 4:19activity from the hours of 10:00 AM to 2:30, all sorts of things
- 4:24like that. I guess you can really give it
- 4:26that detail and help you assist you and to, you know, expand an
- 4:30idea. It helps you reset.
- 4:32Like to be honest with you, Chacha PT has changed a lot of
- 4:34things for me because it feels like it has helped reset the way
- 4:38that I think. And I structure things because
- 4:40then eventually when I create it, I also need to make sure
- 4:43that I am communicating it to the person that we serve their
- 4:47families, they're external stakeholders, so I can so they
- 4:51know what's happening next because communication is key.
- 4:54So you're probably wondering, how can I make meaningful
- 4:57activities? This is where ChatGPT really is
- 5:00quite helpful. Instead of saying going out or
- 5:03keeping busy, I'd ask it, how can I turn this activity, which
- 5:07could be something like going swimming into something that's
- 5:10called focus, for example, like I'll give you a couple of
- 5:14examples. Cooking is life skills, walking,
- 5:17health and well-being routines, stopping money skills,
- 5:21volunteering, confidence and connection.
- 5:23If this helps you link activities to real outcomes, it
- 5:27can also help you bring like a breakdown on how to focus on it.
- 5:32So we're going to like wind back one tick.
- 5:34Let's go into shopping and money skills.
- 5:36You can talk to chat deputy and it can prompt you of how can I
- 5:40expand somebody's money skills? They use cash, they use a debit
- 5:44card. What type of prompts could I
- 5:46assist somebody to be more independent in the community?
- 5:48What could I do? Like it really can expand that
- 5:51information for you. It has the capacity and it's
- 5:53been for fantastic. Yeah.
- 5:55All right, so creating activities not just for time
- 5:58filling. This is really important guys,
- 6:01because I'm speaking to you support work because the reason
- 6:03why this is so important is because at the end of the day,
- 6:06an NDIS participant has a, as an NDIS line that they use to get
- 6:12support off you. And if they're using that line
- 6:15to get support off you, let's just say I'm going to give you a
- 6:17ballpark figure. Let's just go, it's $76.00 an
- 6:21hour for $76.00 an hour. Are they getting bang for buck
- 6:25from you as a support worker? And I know there's a, like
- 6:28there's a bit of just argument between whether I work as an
- 6:31independent, whether I work as a provider.
- 6:33At the end of the day, they are spending their NDIS funding on
- 6:38you as a support worker. So there is a element of that.
- 6:41We have to deliver a support workers activities and support
- 6:45that is in line with that. So there's, you know, getting
- 6:47bang for back. So we need to really build this
- 6:50out. So we're building simple
- 6:51programs. We're going to use ChatGPT to
- 6:54help us build really simple programs for that individual we
- 6:57serve, but we can also do it in groups, but we'll get to that.
- 6:59Nothing fancy, nothing overwhelming.
- 7:01For example, I could say to ChatGPT, Hey, ChatGPT, can you
- 7:05create a four week confidence building travel training program
- 7:10used in the community to support?
- 7:13I'm going to say Bob Bug from and I'll use coal bank station
- 7:18to catch the train into the city to let's go Parliament House for
- 7:22four weeks and we're going to work on building his Trump
- 7:27training skills, his confidence, his money handling.
- 7:30How can you give me some structure?
- 7:32Can you break this down week to week?
- 7:33Like maybe week 1 is getting confident and being comfortable.
- 7:38Week 2 might be trying something new, like we might get off at a
- 7:40different station or something like that or sitting in a
- 7:43different carriage, depending on the person.
- 7:44This is all person based here. Week 3 is building that
- 7:48independence. So we're slowly as support
- 7:50workers, bringing ourselves back for this person's big main
- 7:54character and to be as independent as possible.
- 7:57Week 4 might be we get to reflect on what's going on.
- 8:00It's not working. It might be the opposite part
- 8:02where we get to celebrate because we Bob is able to catch
- 8:06the train from Cobble Bank Station to Parliament and back
- 8:10again independently. Hooray, that's what we want.
- 8:14And then we can really tailor it down to a person and break it
- 8:16down week to week. But the great thing is also from
- 8:18that information, you can give it to Bob and his family or his
- 8:22support so they know what's going on.
- 8:24So we're all in this together. Wildcats.
- 8:26Sorry, one too many High School Musical.
- 8:28I'm showing my age today. All right, so you're probably
- 8:31wondering how supporting different interests.
- 8:34So people like different things we all do, right?
- 8:37So how can chat to Petite plan around what a person wants?
- 8:41Like they're being different? If it's sports, if it's art, if
- 8:44it's music, if it's animals, if it's food, if it's a social
- 8:47group, you can ask it for ideas that matches a person's
- 8:51interests and abilities. And that's how supports become
- 8:54really personal. So it could be, guys, can you
- 8:57create a community access program for Teddy who really
- 9:02enjoys animals and going to petting zoos, going to lost dogs
- 9:07home. So it can actually create all
- 9:08those things. So you're probably wondering
- 9:10next, Sarah, using Chat CPT for support work or life, how can I
- 9:14do it? Yes, you can do it to assist you
- 9:17to write your progression note or your journal entries.
- 9:20As such, Chat CPT can help help you with the wording.
- 9:24No lies, I am writing some really tough notes.
- 9:28You can help you write this clear professional language.
- 9:31It saves time and it reduce stress and your notes will still
- 9:36reflect. Here's one quick 15 second ad.
- 9:39Are you ready? Looking for the right support
- 9:42worker? Meet Swifty Matchy, the app
- 9:43where you watch quick videos, feel the vibe and choose who
- 9:47supports you. No more waiting, no more
- 9:49guessing and just real choices. Swifty, Matchy, your vibe, your
- 9:53support, your way, what's actually happened?
- 9:58You know the cool thing about Chatche PT Really, to be honest,
- 10:00when it comes to progression or journal entries or whatever
- 10:03diary entries, whatever your provider or as an independent
- 10:06use you can talk to. Hey Chatche PT, help me create
- 10:10and write the following. I need to write this in first
- 10:14person, second person, third person, whatever it may be.
- 10:17Make it blunt and to the point. Make it factual.
- 10:20It can do that for you. You're not giving somebody's
- 10:22address their full name or anything silly because it is
- 10:25obvious. Do that.
- 10:27Also, the cool thing about reflecting on shifts, sometimes
- 10:30I even use it for reflection or I talk to chat CBT.
- 10:34This has occurred. What action should I take?
- 10:37What is wording that I should use?
- 10:40Like I can ask it for some feedback as well, and it can
- 10:42give me some feedback. Like we created these nodes
- 10:45together in chat CBT. Can you give me some criticism
- 10:49or some feedback on how I can improve it so I can write really
- 10:52cool things for the person that we serve?
- 10:53So like, you know, I've got some really cool information behind
- 10:56them about the goals that they're succeeding.
- 10:58And sometimes I like I reflect, to be honest, like what
- 11:01questions could I have asked myself as a support worker today
- 11:04on shift to improve the support that I am giving to this person
- 11:08for next time? The cool thing about Chat Chi
- 11:10PT, it really does help you grow, especially if you're newer
- 11:14to the role. So you can give it some
- 11:15scenarios of questions back and forth.
- 11:18But I want to be very clear guys, because we need to the
- 11:21importance of boundaries. Quick reminder, and it does
- 11:25matter. Chat Chi does not replace
- 11:27training. ChatGPT does not replace
- 11:30supervision. ChatGPT does not replace
- 11:33policies and ChatGPT does not make decisions for you.
- 11:37These are all actions that you make as a human being and and
- 11:41you never put in somebody's full name, their details, their
- 11:45private information. It's a tool, not a shortcut.
- 11:48So if we're talking big picture for 2026 and beyond, support
- 11:51workers who will thrive, the curious, the ones willing to,
- 11:56the ones that are using tools like Chat FPT or them using Chat
- 12:00T doesn't make you lazy. It makes you intentional of the
- 12:04type of supports that you want to provide as a support worker.
- 12:07Intentional support workers change life because we have got
- 12:10the capacity to use these tools to create more for somebody that
- 12:13we serve. So if you're a support worker
- 12:16right now listening to this and you're thinking I want to do
- 12:19better or just more, you're already on the right track.
- 12:23Your, your energy, your tools protect your energy create
- 12:27meaning because your work really does matter.
- 12:30So thank you so much for listening to today's one about
- 12:32Chat TPT Bye for now support workers, until we meet again.
