- 0:14Speaker 1: All righty, welcome, welcome, welcome in. It is time now
- 0:17Speaker 1: for of course, our Car Talk program. It's Thursday and
- 0:21Speaker 1: its sun is shining and by gully, you know what
- 0:23Speaker 1: that means. It means that it's time for car talk.
- 0:26Speaker 1: And Jason, you got friends.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Friends. I'm Jason Brimer sitting in for Brad Dungees and
- 0:32Speaker 2: Christina Bishop with elder care is here with me. And
- 0:36Speaker 2: we're gonna talk a little elder care. But first Tom,
- 0:39Speaker 2: I want to talk a little bit about all things cars.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Let's do that. Yeah, I hate it seems to be
- 0:47Speaker 2: a tad bit chilly outside and just a tad and
- 0:53Speaker 2: then it's gonna warm up and then it's gonna be
- 0:56Speaker 2: zero and then it's gonna warm up. Tom, you know
- 1:00Speaker 2: this really plays havoc on on a on a vehicle
- 1:04Speaker 2: on uh uh you know the internal working parts as
- 1:09Speaker 2: they say, and uh this, uh if your if your
- 1:13Speaker 2: battery isn't cranking, if your wipers aren't good, if your
- 1:19Speaker 2: tires aren't good, it is time to head over to dungeons.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Toyota tires breaks, oil, changes, batteries, dungeons. Toyota doesn't we
- 1:34Speaker 2: do it all on every make and model and what's
- 1:38Speaker 2: what's really great is if you go to our website
- 1:42Speaker 2: UH and navigate over to UH Specials. We have a
- 1:47Speaker 2: good number of service specials UH that will, you know,
- 1:52Speaker 2: help you take care of your vehicle from top to bottom.
- 1:56Speaker 2: One of my favorites is UH uh a fifteen dollars
- 2:02Speaker 2: off on a fluid change, which on a cold day
- 2:05Speaker 2: like this, you know, it's probably a pretty good idea
- 2:09Speaker 2: to make sure that your fluids are at least topped
- 2:11Speaker 2: off and that your radiator is doing its thing, no kidding.
- 2:17Speaker 2: So we've also got some great, great deals on some
- 2:22Speaker 2: pre owned vehicles at Dungeons. Right now on the lot,
- 2:30Speaker 2: we have, among other things, a pre owned twenty fifteen
- 2:37Speaker 2: camera that is a really good get you around starter
- 2:43Speaker 2: car and it will still last you forever, it really will.
- 2:49Speaker 2: It has I'm driving a twenty fifteen camera right now, Tom,
- 2:54Speaker 2: and I'll tell you it's I've got over two hundred
- 2:57Speaker 2: thousand miles on it. This one is an XL and
- 3:03Speaker 2: we're asking ten four dollars for it. So if you
- 3:06Speaker 2: need a good starter car, that is kind of the
- 3:11Speaker 2: entry where we are at Dungeons Toyota, and then we
- 3:17Speaker 2: have some great deals on some other used toyotas. Right now,
- 3:21Speaker 2: we have something that really kind of interests me. We
- 3:25Speaker 2: have a pre owned twenty twenty four Corolla Cross Xle.
- 3:31Speaker 2: And if you haven't seen this, it's a four wheel
- 3:33Speaker 2: drive it it does not look like a Corolla. It
- 3:39Speaker 2: looks more like a shrunk down Highlander. It's sporty, to
- 3:45Speaker 2: say the least, very sporty four wheel drive it is.
- 3:53Speaker 2: It's the kind of car that looks like you could
- 3:57Speaker 2: take it a little bit off road but still get
- 4:00Speaker 2: the comfort of like a mini suv. It's kind of pretty.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It is kind of pretty. So we've got a real
- 4:08Speaker 2: great selection at Dungeonstoyota dot com of all kinds of
- 4:13Speaker 2: used cars, and then of course some great deals on
- 4:17Speaker 2: new cars. But let's let's talk some Eldercare. Let's do that.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I'm an elder, well, I'm I'm I'm getting there.
- 4:27Speaker 3: The other thing about Eldercare is that we serve all ages,
- 4:32Speaker 3: and we are just excited to really focus on and
- 4:36Speaker 3: help everyone live well. Because you know what, Tom, we're
- 4:41Speaker 3: all aging every day, every day, every day, and aren't
- 4:46Speaker 3: we lucky? Lucky?
- 4:48Speaker 2: I like it. I like aging. I am good with that. So, Christina,
- 4:55Speaker 2: how how are you this morning?
- 4:57Speaker 3: I'm wonderful. Thanks for having me.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Oh, it's our pleasure and we love elder care.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Thank you for that. We are just lucky to be
- 5:07Speaker 3: in this wonderful community.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Isn't it a great place to live? So the few
- 5:14Speaker 2: who might not be familiar with older care, what is
- 5:17Speaker 2: your mission? What do you guys do?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Well, our mission is to help people live happy, healthy,
- 5:23Speaker 3: independent lives, and we do that by providing services, classes, resources,
- 5:31Speaker 3: education programs, access to medical care, our physical therapy. So
- 5:38Speaker 3: we want to look at that whole person and provide
- 5:41Speaker 3: the supports and services that you may need.
- 5:43Speaker 2: That is awesome. So what what does a what does
- 5:48Speaker 2: a typical client look like? For you?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Well, it could be Tom, could it could be me,
- 5:54Speaker 3: It could be you, It could be that a thirty
- 5:58Speaker 3: year old. You know, we have people coming into the
- 6:01Speaker 3: building that are fresh out of college that you know.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Some come to the clinic and they're having their first baby.
- 6:09Speaker 3: So we take care of families and individuals and you
- 6:14Speaker 3: can learn about how to take care of yourself better
- 6:19Speaker 3: and provide care and gain support so that you can
- 6:24Speaker 3: live well longer.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I like that. That's a that is a good mission.
- 6:31Speaker 2: So how long have you been with older care?
- 6:34Speaker 3: Eighteen years since you were a baby?
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yes, okay, they have young people there, yeah, okay.
- 6:46Speaker 3: But truly we want people to come in as soon
- 6:48Speaker 3: as possible. We want all ages, We want families to
- 6:51Speaker 3: come in access our services. Look at the supports because
- 6:56Speaker 3: if we start taking care of ourselves sooner, we're going
- 6:59Speaker 3: to live well longer. We're all kind of living a
- 7:03Speaker 3: little bit longer.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Genetics plays a role in that, but so do things
- 7:08Speaker 3: that we can influence. Like, one of the biggest factors
- 7:12Speaker 3: on determining longevity is balance, mobility and strength.
- 7:19Speaker 2: I my wife is drilling that into me, the balance
- 7:24Speaker 2: mobility and strength mantra. She has a great habit of
- 7:32Speaker 2: standing on one foot while she brushes her teeth. Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 2: so it is her balance practice in the morning. So
- 7:41Speaker 2: what what can what can adult who needs to kind
- 7:48Speaker 2: of get a baseline on balance mobility?
- 7:51Speaker 3: What can you do?
- 7:52Speaker 2: What can you do?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Well? You can come into our physical therapy department, make
- 7:57Speaker 3: an appointment. You can self refer for an assessment of
- 8:02Speaker 3: balance screening, talk to our staff, see what's going on
- 8:06Speaker 3: in Oklahoma. You can do that without a doctor's prescription.
- 8:10Speaker 3: They'll help you get that if they find that you
- 8:12Speaker 3: need it within thirty days afterwards. But we want to
- 8:15Speaker 3: come in and just talk to you. We want to
- 8:17Speaker 3: see how you're doing, and then we can give you
- 8:19Speaker 3: some guidelines or maybe it's just some exercises you can do,
- 8:22Speaker 3: or hey, maybe you do need some physical therapy.
- 8:25Speaker 2: If if I'm at home right now and I'm listening,
- 8:30Speaker 2: what's a real quick self check to say, maybe I
- 8:34Speaker 2: should make an appointment.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Well, if you're it's a little more than that. Sometimes
- 8:43Speaker 3: if you can you know, if you're sitting down like
- 8:45Speaker 3: me and you can stand up without having to push
- 8:47Speaker 3: yourself off the chair, you know that's something good. If
- 8:51Speaker 3: you find yourself kind of teetering, if you're trying to
- 8:54Speaker 3: stand at the kitchen sink and you're not, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: you're not real stable, or you're find yourself kind of
- 9:00Speaker 3: veering off your path, you know, those are all things
- 9:03Speaker 3: that might make you go, Hm, I need to talk
- 9:06Speaker 3: to somebody, So.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You make an appointment with elder Care. You just give
- 9:11Speaker 2: us a call, go into physical therapy. Yes, what are
- 9:15Speaker 2: some of the other types of services that I'm going
- 9:19Speaker 2: to access?
- 9:20Speaker 3: Well, so you might want to access our adult day
- 9:23Speaker 3: health if you're taking care of a loved one who
- 9:25Speaker 3: needs some oversight during the day. Adult day health is
- 9:30Speaker 3: one of the most affordable means of care that's available,
- 9:33Speaker 3: and we really like to let people know that there's
- 9:36Speaker 3: all different types of methods to pay for adult day health,
- 9:40Speaker 3: and so we want to talk to you if you
- 9:41Speaker 3: have a loved one, you also might just be an
- 9:43Speaker 3: individual who's feeling pretty isolated at home. You need to
- 9:48Speaker 3: get out more, you're wondering what you can do, feeling
- 9:50Speaker 3: a little hopeless, We want to talk to you too.
- 9:53Speaker 3: We have people who drive themselves to adult day Health,
- 9:56Speaker 3: we have people who take our transportation, and then families
- 10:01Speaker 3: that drop off their left ones as well.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I've noticed your transportation and that is a wonderful service.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And then the adult day health for a caregiver is
- 10:15Speaker 2: a great break.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Respite is crucial, So.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Another wonderful service provided by Elder Care. So if somebody
- 10:27Speaker 2: wanted to plug in as a volunteer, are there opportunities there?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, yes, absolutely, we need volunteers, whether that's
- 10:38Speaker 3: at our front desk or helping someone out in their
- 10:41Speaker 3: home or helping an adult day We will find work
- 10:45Speaker 3: for you. We have an event coming up, our annual fundraiser,
- 10:50Speaker 3: and we certainly use volunteers there as well.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Well, well, let's talk a little bit about fundraisers. My bib.
- 11:00Speaker 3: And hungry, just thinking about how barbecue.
- 11:03Speaker 2: No, it is one of the quintessential fundraisers of Bartlesville.
- 11:12Speaker 3: We are very fortunate.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Tell us a little bit about it and tell us
- 11:16Speaker 2: when it started and when it's coming up.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Well, this is the twenty seventh annual event, so we
- 11:24Speaker 3: have been doing this for a very long time. The
- 11:27Speaker 3: Mollendorf family actually started with us, and we are so
- 11:31Speaker 3: grateful for them and all they did throughout the years.
- 11:35Speaker 3: They wanted to it's Mother's Day weekend, and then we
- 11:37Speaker 3: did that to recognize their mother, and it's continued and
- 11:42Speaker 3: we just love the fact that people come out on
- 11:45Speaker 3: Mother's Day weekend and support us and care enough about
- 11:48Speaker 3: our mission and cause to really do so. But that event,
- 11:52Speaker 3: I was just telling Tom, it takes a good six
- 11:55Speaker 3: months of preparation.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I can imagine, Yes, I did imagine.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It's now at the Hughes Ranch, and they are the
- 12:03Speaker 3: most gracious hosts. We are traps in all over their land.
- 12:09Speaker 3: They let us in and out of their home, and
- 12:12Speaker 3: you know, it's not for a week or two, it's
- 12:13Speaker 3: for months, and so we are just so thankful for them.
- 12:16Speaker 2: They get a little barbecue out of it.
- 12:18Speaker 3: We try yes, good good.
- 12:21Speaker 2: So when when you start selling tickets.
- 12:23Speaker 3: So that'll be coming within the next month, you could
- 12:26Speaker 3: actually go on and talk and probably get a ticket
- 12:28Speaker 3: now if you really wanted to. Sponsorship letters have went out.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Sponsorship is huge for us because this is really our
- 12:36Speaker 3: big fundraiser. And do you guys know what's happening now
- 12:41Speaker 3: right here in the United States with the aging population.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Every day in the United States, at least eleven two
- 12:51Speaker 3: hundred to twelve thousand people turned sixty five every day.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:57Speaker 3: By the year twenty thirty, their estimate that one in
- 13:01Speaker 3: five Americans will be at least sixty five. All right,
- 13:06Speaker 3: So that means more people need more services. But it
- 13:10Speaker 3: also means that as the face of aging is changing,
- 13:13Speaker 3: we want to do things better. We want to get
- 13:15Speaker 3: those health services in earlier. We want to keep you moving,
- 13:20Speaker 3: We want to keep you connected to the community and
- 13:22Speaker 3: engaging in education and making sure you're getting respite. So
- 13:26Speaker 3: all of those things are important. When a sponsor looks
- 13:29Speaker 3: at you and says, what's your mission?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Mm hmm, that is great. I think you've got a
- 13:37Speaker 2: small event coming up, don't you.
- 13:39Speaker 3: The paint and sip.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Paint and sip.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yes, I believe that's on the twenty first.
- 13:44Speaker 2: What's going on with paint and sip?
- 13:46Speaker 3: So it's an kind of a guided paint. I think
- 13:50Speaker 3: they're doing a cardinal and there's going to be some
- 13:53Speaker 3: wine and some savory treats and you're going to get
- 13:56Speaker 3: to try those things and just paint a beautiful picture
- 14:00Speaker 3: and have a wonderful time.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Christina. That sounds like a lot of fun too.
- 14:06Speaker 3: We try to have a lot of fun.
- 14:08Speaker 2: So if somebody, if somebody is in need of services
- 14:12Speaker 2: or wants to volunteer, best way to get a hold.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Of you, give us a call or walk through the doors.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Okay, So website.
- 14:21Speaker 3: About eldercare dot org.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Very good, very good, and then keep an eye out
- 14:29Speaker 2: for the tickets for bad and barbecue.
- 14:34Speaker 3: It's you're going to be hearing more from us, Tom,
- 14:38Speaker 3: We'll be hearing more from.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I love it.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So I'm going back to cars just for a second, Christina.
- 14:49Speaker 2: We at Dungeons Toyota again. I love to sell you
- 14:56Speaker 2: a car. We try to make the process as simple
- 14:59Speaker 2: as possible and fast and transparent. So just love it
- 15:05Speaker 2: when you take good care of your car, because we
- 15:10Speaker 2: have a hidden goal here. We want to buy it
- 15:12Speaker 2: back from you when you're done with it. And speaking
- 15:17Speaker 2: of buying it back from you right now, Tom, I
- 15:23Speaker 2: I think we've mentioned time or two that we are
- 15:27Speaker 2: a KBB buying center Kelly Blue Book, which is the
- 15:36Speaker 2: Tom and I can tell you it's the gold standard
- 15:39Speaker 2: and it used to be an actual book, physical book
- 15:43Speaker 2: back in the day. So we are looking for cars, trucks,
- 15:49Speaker 2: SUVs in every price range to purchase right now. And
- 15:56Speaker 2: Brian Ballard, who's our general sales manager at Dungeons Toyota,
- 16:01Speaker 2: he's kind of leading the charge on acquiring new used
- 16:06Speaker 2: vehicles pre owned vehicles, lovingly taking care of you owned vehicles.
- 16:12Speaker 2: We love those. But again every you know, shape, size
- 16:18Speaker 2: and condition, and the easiest way to to get a great,
- 16:25Speaker 2: great quote on a vehicle is to call Brian Ballard
- 16:30Speaker 2: at nine one, eight, three, three, five six seven six,
- 16:35Speaker 2: Just give him a call at Dungeons Toyota. Brian Ballard
- 16:39Speaker 2: is he's going to give you more. Is his promise.
- 16:46Speaker 2: He he will pay more for any vehicle than anybody else.
- 16:56Speaker 2: If you bring him any sort of competitive bid, He's
- 17:00Speaker 2: going to He's going to buy your car. So we
- 17:05Speaker 2: are determined to to really increase the size of our
- 17:10Speaker 2: used car inventory to be uh one of kbb's star
- 17:17Speaker 2: buying centers. And uh, you're gonna be hearing a whole
- 17:20Speaker 2: lot about that over the next couple of weeks, Tom,
- 17:24Speaker 2: and we're gonna try and buy your car. Okay. So again,
- 17:32Speaker 2: if you have a used car, truck, SUV van, Uh,
- 17:38Speaker 2: give us a call. Give give Brian Baaler to call
- 17:41Speaker 2: at Dungeons Toyota, get a hold of him at nine
- 17:44Speaker 2: one eight, three three five six seven o six and
- 17:48Speaker 2: Brian and Brian's gonna pay you more. Yeah. So let's uh,
- 17:56Speaker 2: let's go back to talking elder care because I'm just
- 18:02Speaker 2: intrigued to Christina, So, how many how many clients do
- 18:06Speaker 2: you guys serve in a year? Oh?
- 18:08Speaker 3: My goodness. So I usually like to break it down
- 18:11Speaker 3: by program, okay, because we serve a lot. Elder Care
- 18:15Speaker 3: is truly an umbrella agency multiple programs inside. So like
- 18:20Speaker 3: in our case management, our advantage case management, we serve
- 18:24Speaker 3: over two hundred clients each year. Wow, that's pretty amazing
- 18:28Speaker 3: because they stay on service for a year. Some have
- 18:31Speaker 3: been on service for multiple years. That is dependent upon
- 18:34Speaker 3: their income. We have our in home program that's where
- 18:38Speaker 3: we go out and do some errands, do some housekeeping.
- 18:41Speaker 3: We have almost two hundred in that program.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Josh.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Sees an average of about eight hundred to eight hundred
- 18:49Speaker 3: and fifty visits.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Per month, per month, per month.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Than our Adult Day Health we have about sixty active
- 18:57Speaker 3: participants right now. And then you take into consideration all
- 19:01Speaker 3: of the classes and educational seminars and the patients that
- 19:06Speaker 3: come in and we are serving you know, thousands each year.
- 19:13Speaker 2: You are touching so many lives here in the community.
- 19:17Speaker 2: It's just amazing, you.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Know, it is amazing. And we want to grow with
- 19:22Speaker 3: these programs and make sure that we're serving people in
- 19:25Speaker 3: a way that is equitable, quality, programs accessible, because you know,
- 19:30Speaker 3: if programs aren't accessible, well they're just not worth a
- 19:34Speaker 3: whole lot, right, So you've got to have access and
- 19:37Speaker 3: we provide that in elder care. And the other thing
- 19:40Speaker 3: that we provide is resource if you've got questions about
- 19:44Speaker 3: aging or just health in general, and what you may
- 19:47Speaker 3: need or a loved one or there's respite issues. We
- 19:50Speaker 3: want you to just come in and talk to us.
- 19:52Speaker 3: It truly costs nothing. You can come in as many
- 19:55Speaker 3: times as you like. We have a very open door policy.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Come in and have a cup of coffee. There's some
- 20:00Speaker 3: exciting things that will be coming soon. We're increasing our
- 20:04Speaker 3: respite programs for caregivers and so you're seeing that we've
- 20:08Speaker 3: went to weekly caregiver support groups, but we're going to
- 20:11Speaker 3: have more open areas for people to just come in
- 20:14Speaker 3: and enjoy each other's company, play some games, have some
- 20:17Speaker 3: support and take care of each other.
- 20:20Speaker 2: This is so important for caregivers. I've been in that
- 20:25Speaker 2: position and having having somebody else who is in the
- 20:32Speaker 2: same the same boat, the same.
- 20:36Speaker 3: And knows where you're at exactly.
- 20:38Speaker 2: It's important. It's it's good relief.
- 20:42Speaker 3: It is for all of us. And you know, the
- 20:45Speaker 3: sooner that we can get in and get the services
- 20:47Speaker 3: we need and start taking care of ourselves, the better
- 20:50Speaker 3: off we are overall. And that's our goal is to
- 20:52Speaker 3: help you live well.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I love that so elder care get plugged in. If
- 20:59Speaker 2: you've got an elder, if you are an older, if
- 21:02Speaker 2: you're thinking about being.
- 21:04Speaker 3: An older Yeah, if you're aging.
- 21:07Speaker 2: That is a pretty wide swath of the population. Christine,
- 21:11Speaker 2: that's all of us, anyone who's breathing. Yeah, So the
- 21:15Speaker 2: best way to get plugged.
- 21:18Speaker 3: In give us a call or walk through that door.
- 21:21Speaker 2: What's a good number for you?
- 21:22Speaker 3: Nine three, three, six eighty five hundred.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I love it. And then the website again.
- 21:29Speaker 3: About eldercare dot org. Or you can come through those
- 21:32Speaker 3: doors at twelve twenty three Swan Drive.
- 21:35Speaker 2: You can't miss it.
- 21:36Speaker 1: It's huge.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I think I may just drop in for for a coffee.
- 21:42Speaker 3: We just had the leadership class there and I consistently
- 21:45Speaker 3: heard this building is so much bigger once you get inside.
- 21:49Speaker 3: So come take a tour.
- 21:50Speaker 2: That would be nice. That really would be nice. So
- 21:53Speaker 2: you think it's big on the outside, wait till you
- 21:55Speaker 2: walk in. I have been over there a couple of times.
- 21:58Speaker 2: But yeah, I need to go back, and I mean
- 22:02Speaker 2: a little bit intrigued by the physical therapy.

- 23:11Speaker 2: a TRD Pro off road for as little as two
- 23:15Speaker 2: sixty nine a month on a lease offer, and that's
- 23:19Speaker 2: a pretty inexpensive way to travel. It is a great truck.
- 23:26Speaker 2: And then the Toyota Tundras, which we have we're pre
- 23:32Speaker 2: selling again, Tom, so we have we have a load
- 23:35Speaker 2: of Toyota Tundras en route and a couple of them
- 23:40Speaker 2: have already been accounted for, but we've got a couple
- 23:43Speaker 2: more that are going to be hitting soon. And you
- 23:46Speaker 2: can get one point nine percent financing for sixty on
- 23:50Speaker 2: a Toyota Tundra. And I'm I'm telling you we're gonna

- 25:15Speaker 2: people in and out in about an hour. You know something,
- 25:18Speaker 2: You're right.
- 25:18Speaker 1: It used to be you have to carve out a
- 25:19Speaker 1: pretty good junk of your day to go out and
- 25:21Speaker 1: purchase a car.
- 25:23Speaker 2: You don't your your salespeople are noncommissioned, right, non commissioned salespeople.
- 25:28Speaker 2: You know, a lot of a lot of what they
- 25:31Speaker 2: do their consultants. Most people come in fairly well armed
- 25:36Speaker 2: with information from the Internet on what they're looking for
- 25:40Speaker 2: and a lot of a lot of ore. A lot
- 25:44Speaker 2: of the process that sales consultants go through is just
- 25:48Speaker 2: teaching you how to work the big screen. Yeah. Actually,
- 25:57Speaker 2: we work with people every day. If you're having issues
- 26:01Speaker 2: with your big screen and you're like, what does this
