- 0:00Speaker 1: Gang. Forgive me for the way I'm dressed. I know
- 0:03Speaker 1: we're recording to Zach. You look spiffy, Joel. You look wonderful. Daniel,
- 0:07Speaker 1: you are a lifesaver and you look great. You look healthy.
- 0:12Speaker 1: You look like you're having a lot of fun in
- 0:14Speaker 1: New York. With your blurred background.
- 0:16Speaker 2: We're doing okay.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I have been in my animation studio for three days.
- 0:22Speaker 1: The wife has not seen me. I've been I haven't showered. Really.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I had my buddy elder Son come from He's worked
- 0:32Speaker 1: in many studios before, and he's come to the crib
- 0:35Speaker 1: and he's officially hung lights for me. My animation. We
- 0:40Speaker 1: finished at We were supposed to record it one point thirty.
- 0:44Speaker 1: We finished at one twenty nine, and I gathered everything
- 0:48Speaker 1: and ran up at been this motherfucker and I I
- 0:51Speaker 1: was late. But hey, I'm gonna tell you something right now.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You ain't never gonna see like. Look, I've learned so
- 0:56Speaker 1: much in the past three days about lighting, which is
- 0:59Speaker 1: something Zach, I know you know a little bit about
- 1:03Speaker 1: I don't know if you know anything about it, Dan
- 1:05Speaker 1: l I don't know if you know anything about it, Joelle,
- 1:07Speaker 1: but it means so much to.
- 1:11Speaker 3: You.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Know, creating something and or it just looks flat and
- 1:18Speaker 1: depth of field and all of that stuff. All of
- 1:20Speaker 1: these things fall into play, and it's been an awesome experience.
- 1:24Speaker 1: And thank you for letting me share that. I can
- 1:27Speaker 1: see how excited you. We're glad that my wife said
- 1:30Speaker 1: that shit too. She was like, I can see how
- 1:31Speaker 1: excited you are. I walked by and you sounded like
- 1:34Speaker 1: a little fucking geek.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Well, not everyone has a passion that they love as
- 1:41Speaker 2: much as you love stop motion animation. So I think
- 1:43Speaker 2: we're all very happy for you. Thank you very much,
- 1:46Speaker 2: even if it makes you fifteen minutes late with no idea.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I deserve it. I deserve it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: The audience is lucky that we're not going to give
- 1:54Speaker 2: them the full Sarah Chalk experience. We're going to cut
- 1:57Speaker 2: out the fifteen minutes you just needed to help set
- 2:00Speaker 2: stop recording.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Thank you. Tell me about it. What have you been doing.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I've been directing the TV show Shrinking, and it's really
- 2:12Speaker 2: fun and great. I really loved it. The episodes are
- 2:14Speaker 2: so I directed episodes three and four this year and
- 2:18Speaker 2: I'm done. I'm gonna start editing next week. And I
- 2:20Speaker 2: had so much fun.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Tony Harrison's board anecdotes or anything.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'll tell you his story. You'll laugh at that. I
- 2:27Speaker 2: he's he really likes me, and he's very nice to me,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and we get along. This time, I bonded with him
- 2:33Speaker 2: more and he it's I still get giddy when he
- 2:36Speaker 2: says my name, which is just funny because just Zach went.
- 2:41Speaker 2: But when he calls across the set and he has
- 2:43Speaker 2: a question.
- 2:43Speaker 1: He's like Zach.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, he says my name. But
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'll tell you a funny story. I was wearing these
- 2:50Speaker 2: really loud Gucci shoes sneakers that I had bought in
- 2:53Speaker 2: Vegas after I lost in Blackjack. I was with Bill
- 2:57Speaker 2: and I got crushed in Blackjack, and I was like,
- 2:59Speaker 2: feeling like such a loser. I was like, I'm gonna
- 3:02Speaker 2: go buy stupid expensive sneakers. And I went and bought
- 3:05Speaker 2: these very loud Gucci sneakers because I do I don't
- 3:08Speaker 2: really dress I don't dress flashy at all. I wear
- 3:10Speaker 2: just pretty much the same three things every day. But
- 3:12Speaker 2: I do like loud, fucking weird sneakers anyway. So I'm
- 3:16Speaker 2: wearing these on set and Harrison goes, what's the story
- 3:18Speaker 2: with these sneakers, and I go, I was actually in
- 3:23Speaker 2: Vegas with Bill and he won like all this money
- 3:26Speaker 2: in blackjack and I got crushed and I was like
- 3:28Speaker 2: bummed out. So I went and bought these at the
- 3:30Speaker 2: Gucci store and he goes and those cheered you up.
- 3:40Speaker 4: He's real Harrison.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Harrison didn't understand. I'm sure Harrison understands retail therapy.
- 3:50Speaker 2: He just didn't understand why those particularly loud Gucci sneakers
- 3:54Speaker 2: were retail therapy.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're getting to know the real Harrison for it.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Everybody knows. Everybody else who doesn't have the privilege of
- 4:02Speaker 1: getting to hang out with him frequently knows the freaking persona.
- 4:06Speaker 1: You know what I mean, You're seeing vulnerability and all
- 4:08Speaker 1: that stuff. That's I envy that. I envy that about.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I envy that because you got that with Morgan, you
- 4:14Speaker 1: got that with Harrison. Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 4:16Speaker 1: You you Michael Michael Caine, Yeah, fucking you know the list, like.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Work with some legends. I gotta say, Harrison's just so cool,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and he's so good on the show. The scripts are
- 4:29Speaker 2: so good this year, and he's just incredible and and
- 4:32Speaker 2: what's cool about an actor like that is, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 2: first time through, they're basically like where do you want
- 4:38Speaker 2: me to stand? Pretty much this time it was more like,
- 4:41Speaker 2: felt way more collaborative, like what do you think should
- 4:43Speaker 2: it be more of this or this? And that's just
- 4:44Speaker 2: that's when it gets really cool.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I love it. That's so cool, bro, Yeah, that's so
- 4:51Speaker 1: fucking cool. I mean, we can't talk about some of
- 4:54Speaker 1: the stories that you told me off camera, I mean
- 4:56Speaker 1: off but just some of the things you've said, just
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know, I've already gone to friends and been like
- 5:03Speaker 1: and then Zach said he said this, and fucking when
- 5:07Speaker 1: Zach told me that, oh my god, my heart melted,
- 5:10Speaker 1: like just it's just so fucking awesome, and I go, yeah,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I'm really happy for you, but also fuck your sound machines. Zach.
- 5:19Speaker 1: I wanted you to come.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I wanted you to come visit, but that just never
- 5:22Speaker 2: seemed to work out.
- 5:23Speaker 1: No, I don't think I could handle myself.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know that you'd behave either. The other
- 5:28Speaker 2: thing is I want to just say to the words,
- 5:30Speaker 2: have a movie coming out. I think when this airs,
- 5:33Speaker 2: it'll be out. It's a movie. It's gonna be I
- 5:36Speaker 2: think it's in like fifty theaters in the US, but
- 5:39Speaker 2: in a lot more in Canada. It's a movie I
- 5:40Speaker 2: made with Vanessa Hudgens called French Girl. And but anyway,
- 5:46Speaker 2: you most likely will be able to get it on
- 5:48Speaker 2: demand wherever you buy a rent movies like iTunes or
- 5:50Speaker 2: Amazon or whatever. And it's really cute. It's like to
- 5:53Speaker 2: Meet the Parents kind of romantic comedy where I'm going
- 5:57Speaker 2: to propose to my girlfriend. I'm absolutely in love with her,
- 6:02Speaker 2: and she's French Canadian and she gets a job offer
- 6:04Speaker 2: in her home city of Quebec City, and I think, oh,
- 6:08Speaker 2: that's where I'll propose in front of her whole family.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I'll make it so dramatic and romantic, and we go
- 6:13Speaker 2: up there. And while I'm up there meeting her French,
- 6:16Speaker 2: beautiful French family that live on a farm and they're
- 6:19Speaker 2: lovely people, I'm a little bit of a fish out
- 6:21Speaker 2: of water. I don't speak any French. And while I'm there,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I learned that the woman who's offering her this chef position,
- 6:28Speaker 2: played by Vanessa Hudgens, used to be her lover and
- 6:32Speaker 2: she wants to get my girlfriend back. And so it
- 6:36Speaker 2: becomes like Vanessa and I competing over this amazing, beautiful
- 6:39Speaker 2: French woman.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Why y'all gotta compete?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Hilarity ensues, Yeah, why y'all gotta compete? Well, I don't
- 6:48Speaker 2: think either one of us wants to share the amazing woman.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I'm not a sharer either. I'm not gonna lie.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And anyway, it's really cute, it's really funny. It's kind
- 6:56Speaker 2: of meet the parents' tone because everything I try and
- 6:59Speaker 2: do goes wrong, and I think you'll like it.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Chela is a door, very fun. Yeah, I can't wait
- 7:06Speaker 1: to see it.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I get to you a lot of physical comedy, which
- 7:08Speaker 2: I haven't done since Scrubs, and that's fun.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So now you shot this a while ago, too, right.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yes, shot it a while ago, yes, but it's finally
- 7:18Speaker 2: coming out. It's good. Vanessa is really hot and funny
- 7:21Speaker 2: in it, as always, as always, she's great and Nedda
- 7:28Speaker 2: tic tic boom. Yes, what do you think is speaking
- 7:32Speaker 2: of Vanessa? And only because she was hosting the Red Carpet.
- 7:35Speaker 2: The oscars were really great this year, weren't they They
- 7:37Speaker 2: were great?
- 7:38Speaker 4: Oscars were fine.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Well, I'm gonna say something really quick.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Oh boy, this sounds controversial.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It's not controversial, Okay, two lights out moments and the Oscars,
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think there were. It was lights out seeing it
- 7:56Speaker 1: coming out with the freaking thing, lights out, hilarious. You
- 7:59Speaker 1: can't sit here and tell me you didn't laughing, funny,
- 8:03Speaker 1: very funny. And then gossling coming out there and doing
- 8:06Speaker 1: kin I don't can fuck with anybody, says, lights out,
- 8:10Speaker 1: both of them.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Not that hilarious. You crushed that. But also there were
- 8:13Speaker 2: other moments. Billy Eilish's performance I thought was I was credible.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Just right, But I wasn't laughing like I was laughing
- 8:20Speaker 1: watching those two things. I you know, I expect to
- 8:26Speaker 1: see great, dramatic and heartfelt performances like the you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: the there was a standing ovation for the for the Memoriam,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You know what I mean.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I expect to see grand you know, dramatic. It's the Oscars.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It's rare that you laugh your ass off like that. Yeah,
- 8:47Speaker 1: where you were you giggling so hard at what's going on?
- 8:51Speaker 2: I'm just telling you a goose pumpy moment for me,
- 8:53Speaker 2: I agree, those were hilarious moments. But when Billy and
- 8:56Speaker 2: Phineas were singing and then and it was just very simple, right,
- 9:00Speaker 2: and then they had yet to reveal that there was
- 9:02Speaker 2: an orchestra back there. And then so they were spinning
- 9:05Speaker 2: on this little simple turntable, and then the stage opened
- 9:08Speaker 2: up to reveal Ricky Minor and the orchestra, and I
- 9:12Speaker 2: got goosebumps all over my whole body. It was so good.
- 9:15Speaker 1: First of all, shout out Ricky Minor.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Ricky Miner's got a monopoly on those award shows.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I love him.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Is for people.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Not oh, he's a famous conductor and producer, but he
- 9:29Speaker 2: seems to always have the Whenever there's a big award
- 9:32Speaker 2: show and a big ass orchestra, he's usually the one
- 9:34Speaker 2: conducting the orchestra.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Not only that, he's just an incredible person when he
- 9:40Speaker 1: seems me he is always so nice and loving. And
- 9:46Speaker 1: I just I really shout out Ricky Minor.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I just don't really want he Minor listens to the podcast,
- 9:51Speaker 2: but maybe now someone will know.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He's his favorite podcast. I've already he told me it was.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah, there were a lot of good I love the
- 10:01Speaker 2: sort of style of having the actors come out and
- 10:04Speaker 2: say something nice about each of the nominees. That was
- 10:07Speaker 2: so elegant, beautiful, so lovely and moving, super moving, and
- 10:12Speaker 2: also just like a great opportunity for every nominee to
- 10:16Speaker 2: be honored by another person who's receiving award, but also
- 10:19Speaker 2: for the winner to then be congratulated and kind of
- 10:22Speaker 2: like welcomed into that club.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Just being like congratulations. It was beautiful. I really loved it.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And for the losers to wish that they were welcomed.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I like what Daniel said, You're still honored in a way.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Divine Joy Randolph is that her name?
- 10:40Speaker 4: That's correct?
- 10:41Speaker 2: When she started crying because what Lupina and Young said,
- 10:45Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that was one of the most moving
- 10:46Speaker 2: moments of the night. I thought.
- 10:48Speaker 3: When she was already classmates at Yale, I think divines
- 10:52Speaker 3: one year under Lapida and so yeah, when they were
- 10:55Speaker 3: able to especially when they were able to have these
- 10:56Speaker 3: emotional ties and relationships to one another like amazone, Yeah yeah,
- 11:02Speaker 3: but in the way that they were able to give
- 11:04Speaker 3: it to a friend so a Frank could give it
- 11:05Speaker 3: to her, like, it just made everything much more emotional
- 11:07Speaker 3: and sweep.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Yes, Emma is Emma.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I gotta say, Emma. If there's one person, a young
- 11:16Speaker 2: person who deserves two oscars already, it's Emma Stone. She
- 11:19Speaker 2: is so fucking good. She's really good and Donald. I
- 11:23Speaker 2: know you'll never see that movie, but you're missing them.
- 11:25Speaker 2: One of the most amazing performances ever. I wish I
- 11:27Speaker 2: could tell you there was lightsabers in it, so you'd
- 11:29Speaker 2: at least peek at it.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Is there music.
- 11:32Speaker 3: There's beautiful music, strange, bizarre, awesome music and gorgeous set design.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Will be Wan.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Isn't it for some reason like Alice in Wonderland.
- 11:41Speaker 2: No, it's sort of a Frankenstein story. It's basically about
- 11:44Speaker 2: about how a guy, Willem Dafoe, creates a young woman.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It's kind of like, now I want to see this movie.
- 11:53Speaker 2: It's kind of like my movie.
- 11:54Speaker 1: We always joke about weird science.
- 11:56Speaker 2: It's like a modern day artful weird science.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I am now interested. I would like to see this movie.
- 12:03Speaker 2: And it's on Hulu. You can watch it. Yeah, it's
- 12:06Speaker 2: really good. I highly recommend it. And just the design,
- 12:08Speaker 2: I mean it won all the design awards as it should.
- 12:10Speaker 2: The costumes, these make up, these sets. You're gonna think like, wow,
- 12:15Speaker 2: is this all cgi? I can't believe someone would have
- 12:18Speaker 2: built all of this. It's all built on stage in Hungary.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I believe.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Rgo Lamos is just a guy.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Interesting I saw, but I got so into it that
- 12:29Speaker 2: I watched her behind the scenes, which I'm sure anyone
- 12:31Speaker 2: listening can track down on YouTube. And it was just
- 12:33Speaker 2: about how they built these sets which were enormous and
- 12:37Speaker 2: like Emma Stone's interviewed and she says, you could get
- 12:39Speaker 2: lost in these cities and they're all on stage, like
- 12:42Speaker 2: enormous stages. Really cool.
- 12:46Speaker 1: That reminds me of how much how big Star Wars sets.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Oh god, it used to be before the CG and
- 12:53Speaker 1: the volume and all of that.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Stuff, the whole city for and or.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's it is huge. That was an exception.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:04Speaker 4: So as you say, bring it back, it's going back
- 13:06Speaker 4: around and coming back.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Are you excited about that?
- 13:09Speaker 4: I am very excited.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I like all of it. I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I still love it. Even though it's on, even though
- 13:13Speaker 1: it's on a television screen behind the actors, I still
- 13:17Speaker 1: love it. It's still it's still Star Wars to me.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Has anyone seen done too?
- 13:22Speaker 4: Yes?
- 13:23Speaker 1: No, And I really want to see it, but I'm
- 13:25Speaker 1: waiting for it to because I have a thing about
- 13:28Speaker 1: going to theaters. Now. Man, it just doesn't.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I mean, I, yeah, I see Doune too in a theater.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna go see in the theater.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Theater, Donald, it's not that expensive. What's you're done several times?
- 13:39Speaker 2: What's your fear?
- 13:41Speaker 1: My fear about movie theaters. It's not my fear. I
- 13:45Speaker 1: don't have a fear about it. It's just COVID set
- 13:48Speaker 1: off something completely different in me when it comes to
- 13:51Speaker 1: that ship.
- 13:52Speaker 2: And I still master movie theater.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I don't like I want to be comfortable too, though.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna go see it. I'm gonna go see it
- 14:02Speaker 2: in some giant imax either, you.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Know what I mean. And I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Back in the day, I would try and get seats
- 14:08Speaker 1: that were separated from people anyway, And now you can't
- 14:12Speaker 1: do that regardless, you know what I mean. Like, if
- 14:16Speaker 1: I want to sit two rows over, I mean a
- 14:18Speaker 1: seat over at the if there's three seats or four
- 14:22Speaker 1: seats and I want to sit in the middle of
- 14:24Speaker 1: those four seats, I can't do that shit. And you
- 14:26Speaker 1: used to be able to do stuff like that.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Well, go if you go to a day screening, I
- 14:33Speaker 2: think a week day, but.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Dune, this is gonna be like one of the number one.
- 14:36Speaker 1: It's got to be one of the number one.
- 14:38Speaker 2: No, but I'm sure that if that's your biggest concern,
- 14:40Speaker 2: I'm sure you could find a weekday, early morning screening
- 14:43Speaker 2: where you don't have to sit on top of people.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I'm animating, man, didn't you hear how we started this shit?
- 14:49Speaker 1: I just want to wait until it comes out and
- 14:52Speaker 1: I can watch it on my big screen at home
- 14:54Speaker 1: with the sound machine and pop some popcorn and enjoy
- 14:58Speaker 1: it that way. I mean, you see where I'm sitting.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Okay, I go off off, I get it.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Dad my dances every time every just like my dad.
- 15:09Speaker 4: He's like, no, wait till it comes. I got a
- 15:10Speaker 4: big screen downstairs. I don't need the movie theater.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I don't need it anymore. I don't need it dates
- 15:16Speaker 1: happening in this house.
- 15:17Speaker 2: What's sad though? It is like what's sad though? Is
- 15:20Speaker 2: like I hear you, and a lot of people listening
- 15:22Speaker 2: agree with you. I just it's just so sad, like
- 15:25Speaker 2: we were all everyone in the movie industry is like
- 15:27Speaker 2: clutching on, like, well, at least we have these big
- 15:29Speaker 2: ten polls where people will still go to the theater
- 15:31Speaker 2: and now people are being like, nah, my TV is
- 15:34Speaker 2: big enough, fuck it, and we're watching the death of
- 15:37Speaker 2: the movie theater in real time. It's a it's a
- 15:40Speaker 2: tough thing, but anyway, it is what it is, and
- 15:42Speaker 2: at least there's lots of good entertainment. And it'll just
- 15:45Speaker 2: shift to to your home TV and will always have
- 15:49Speaker 2: the ballet.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'll always have the balet. Everything was beautiful.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I want to play the audience a song. It's one
- 15:59Speaker 2: of the most beautiful things has it ever heard. I
- 16:01Speaker 2: sent this to you guys in your d MS, and
- 16:04Speaker 2: it's just it's just it's become a very important song
- 16:09Speaker 2: to me in my life, and I wanted to share
- 16:13Speaker 2: with you guys. Okay, hold on, I got to cue
- 16:15Speaker 2: it up everyone this. I want to give a shout
- 16:17Speaker 2: out to the Instagram account there. I ruined it spelled
- 16:22Speaker 2: t h e r E. I ruined it. Okay, this
- 16:27Speaker 2: is Donald. This goes out to you.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I like big butts.
- 16:32Speaker 6: I cannot lie you other brothers.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Canton night.
- 16:40Speaker 1: When a girl walks in with an any pity, waste.
- 16:45Speaker 5: And a round thing in your face, you get strong
- 16:52Speaker 5: because you notice that but wor stuff.
- 16:56Speaker 1: You pull up to.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Deep in the gen.
- 17:02Speaker 1: She's wear rich.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Ju all that jump inside that trunk. Hey, Hey, I'm
- 17:15Speaker 2: a gad cat. Can't you try? Can you trunk up? There?
- 17:23Speaker 2: You go? It goes on and on. But that's uh,
- 17:25Speaker 2: I think that's that's what's an important thing for us
- 17:27Speaker 2: all to hear.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I'm glad you played it. I feel culturally enriched.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Amen. All right, let's get in a season nine dollar
- 17:34Speaker 2: counter sent.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I don't want to.
- 17:37Speaker 2: I gotta do it. You gotta we gotta do it.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Do it, do it, do it?
- 17:42Speaker 1: You honor me?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Do it?
- 17:47Speaker 1: My six seven stories that show we made about a
- 17:53Speaker 1: bunch of times and nurses in Canada, he said, he's
- 17:57Speaker 1: the stories netlik knowe here yea.
- 18:11Speaker 2: All right, Welcome to season nine. Everyone, I'm sure has
- 18:15Speaker 2: a lot to say.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Please leave them in Joel's inbox. She's been waiting.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 4: iHeart at gmail dot.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Com, RBS, iHeart at gmail dot com. I want to
- 18:27Speaker 2: hear what you have to say about season nine.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Go ahead, Donald, I want to start with Daniel and
- 18:31Speaker 1: Joel first, okay, and what they thought, because I feel
- 18:35Speaker 1: like I'm I I need to. I don't want to.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I don't want to start.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I would rather I can start I mean, but go ahead, Joelle,
- 18:45Speaker 2: what do you have to say broad strokes? Joel, you
- 18:48Speaker 2: don't have to keep I got, well it's a long podcast.
- 18:51Speaker 2: You can you don't have to keep it brief.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Yeah, okay.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I think it was so lovely to see Zach opening up.
- 18:59Speaker 3: You're like, wow, this you'll so familiar, how lovely, the
- 19:02Speaker 3: eagle grand the shouting from the hospital so cool. And
- 19:07Speaker 3: then as soon as they were like, it's a different hospital,
- 19:10Speaker 3: I said.
- 19:10Speaker 7: Skirt, this is scrubs.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Where are we?
- 19:12Speaker 4: What's happening?
- 19:13Speaker 3: I miss the dirty hospitle new and clean, and it's
- 19:16Speaker 3: so big and like lush and green like this.
- 19:18Speaker 1: It doesn't feel right.
- 19:19Speaker 3: And immediately I heard Bill in the back of my
- 19:21Speaker 3: mind being like, it's a different show. It's a different show.
- 19:23Speaker 8: Think of it.
- 19:24Speaker 3: It's a different show. And I said, okay, if I
- 19:26Speaker 3: try to lean into that. I like the Lucy character.
- 19:29Speaker 3: She's fun on punch Cole in the face.
- 19:31Speaker 4: I don't like him. It's a horrible person.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I'm intrigued by des relationship with the guy that Cox
- 19:42Speaker 3: eventually calls his number one. Cox says, a straight up teacher, fascinating.
- 19:46Speaker 3: There was like a lot of as I was watched
- 19:48Speaker 3: its like, there's so much stuff that works. I just
- 19:51Speaker 3: don't think it had found his footing in the pilot,
- 19:53Speaker 3: which is very common for TV. So if I were
- 19:55Speaker 3: watching this fresh, I would be like, I will watch
- 19:58Speaker 3: another couple of episodes and see if they find their groove.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I like what's being set up. It does not feel
- 20:04Speaker 3: like Scrubs, even though I see the Scrubs cast Sarah
- 20:07Speaker 3: putting her boobs on your head. I mean, I almost
- 20:10Speaker 3: on the floor.
- 20:10Speaker 2: They're heavy, I said, they're heavy.
- 20:14Speaker 4: That's a weird moment.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Well, I'll jump in. I want to say something just
- 20:19Speaker 2: to start off season nine, and I really did feel
- 20:22Speaker 2: this when I watched it, to say, when we dis
- 20:25Speaker 2: season nine, we are never ever meaning to diss any
- 20:29Speaker 2: of these wonderful actors, because I think I wanted to
- 20:32Speaker 2: just start out by saying one of the things I
- 20:34Speaker 2: got right off the bat was, Gosh, these new kids
- 20:37Speaker 2: quote unquote are so funny and so talented and so pretty,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and they're all really, really talented people. It was a
- 20:45Speaker 2: kind of herculean task for them to try and step
- 20:50Speaker 2: into the roles of a beloved ensemble that I've been
- 20:53Speaker 2: doing it for eight years and it's a big ask,
- 20:57Speaker 2: but nonetheless they were put in that position. I think
- 21:00Speaker 2: Carrie Boshe is adorable and lovable and funny. But yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 2: as a viewer, I'm watching it going why is this
- 21:08Speaker 2: so clean? And why what is this environment?
- 21:11Speaker 4: Like?
- 21:12Speaker 2: It's funny? We know how that that that line from
- 21:14Speaker 2: Madam Webb was getting dragged so much they even mentioned
- 21:16Speaker 2: it the oscars. What was that sentence? It was like
- 21:19Speaker 2: when you were she was my mom, when she was
- 21:21Speaker 2: a doctor?
- 21:22Speaker 4: Do you know that sense amazon rainforest? Oh gosh, I.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Don't have the line, Dan All, they'll find it, But
- 21:28Speaker 2: it was like it was like the reason they're making
- 21:30Speaker 2: fun of it is because it was like so much exposition,
- 21:33Speaker 2: like condensed into one quick moment. And that's why I
- 21:36Speaker 2: felt like that JD had one line that was like that.
- 21:39Speaker 2: It was like explaining why we're in this weird environment
- 21:42Speaker 2: and and and why I everyone now works at a
- 21:45Speaker 2: school and like and then and they tore down the
- 21:49Speaker 2: hospital and they all work and we all work in
- 21:52Speaker 2: a school now. I don't know, it's just weird, right,
- 21:54Speaker 2: I have the line?
- 21:55Speaker 5: What's the line? So it was a joke from John mulaney.
- 21:57Speaker 5: He said with that sound we wouldn't have been able
- 21:58Speaker 5: to hear such classical line says you're going to need
- 22:00Speaker 5: a bigger boat, or I'll have what she's having. And
- 22:03Speaker 5: he was in the Amazon with my mother when she
- 22:05Speaker 5: was researching spiders just before she died.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's like making fun of them for like cramming
- 22:11Speaker 2: all his exposition into one sentence. But anyway, that's my
- 22:15Speaker 2: first impression is that, you know, Carrie Bisa and Franco
- 22:18Speaker 2: and Eliza Koop and all all this gang, they were
- 22:22Speaker 2: really they're really talented, Mickey Wheeland, They're all really funny
- 22:26Speaker 2: and talented. It was just a big ask of them.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Donald, go ahead, Anniel, do you want to go?
- 22:33Speaker 5: I'll very briefly echo some of the thoughts I'm hearing here,
- 22:36Speaker 5: like I think the only thing I'll add is that
- 22:38Speaker 5: seeing a lot of these actors when they're particularly young,
- 22:41Speaker 5: seeing a very young Dave Franco, when we have seen
- 22:43Speaker 5: him like grow up so much over the years in
- 22:45Speaker 5: between this time was definitely like a oh, look at that.
- 22:48Speaker 5: And seeing you guys again in this kind of out
- 22:52Speaker 5: of place but still in place. It was almost like
- 22:55Speaker 5: an uncanny valley where it's like, as Joelle said, it's
- 22:58Speaker 5: like it is Scrub, but it's also kind of not
- 23:02Speaker 5: like it is, you guys, and it's so many of
- 23:04Speaker 5: the main players. It felt so familiar and yet so distant,
- 23:08Speaker 5: which was I think, you know, as Bill was saying,
- 23:11Speaker 5: try and think of it as a spin off, think
- 23:12Speaker 5: of it something new. But there was so much that
- 23:15Speaker 5: was reminiscent about it that the strangeness made me feel
- 23:18Speaker 5: even farther away from it than it did make it
- 23:20Speaker 5: feel familiar. Yeah, and I think, like we said when
- 23:25Speaker 5: we were talking about doing a spin off or like
- 23:28Speaker 5: what the spinoff would be many episodes ago, it's like
- 23:31Speaker 5: it's a big ask to just, all of the sudden,
- 23:34Speaker 5: introduce a bunch of new people and expect it to
- 23:36Speaker 5: hit as hard as it did, even with so many
- 23:39Speaker 5: of these familiar faces, And like you're saying, great actors,
- 23:42Speaker 5: it was a big ask. It was a big ask
- 23:44Speaker 5: of the audience. And yeah, I don't know if I
- 23:47Speaker 5: don't know if it landed properly.
- 23:49Speaker 1: All right, they did something that never works, all right.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I echo everything you guys said. It was absolutely everybody
- 23:57Speaker 1: on this Bad Boy it is talented, everyone is you know,
- 24:00Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But they did something that
- 24:04Speaker 1: never works, and every show on television does it. When
- 24:07Speaker 1: they're trying to survive, they try to fucking Sam that
- 24:11Speaker 1: shit or cousin Oliver that shit, and it never works.
- 24:17Speaker 1: And that's what I'm ready.
- 24:19Speaker 2: To explain, that reference to young people that don't get
- 24:21Speaker 2: a difference reference.
- 24:23Speaker 1: So when shows get old and the kids get older,
- 24:27Speaker 1: and people and networks feel like the audience can't relate
- 24:33Speaker 1: the audience that we want to watch, the show can't
- 24:37Speaker 1: relate anymore. Writers are forced to create a new character
- 24:42Speaker 1: to bring life to the show, and for some it's Sam.
- 24:48Speaker 1: On different strokes. There was Arnold and Willis and Kimberly
- 24:52Speaker 1: when they were kids, and that's what the show was
- 24:54Speaker 1: about them being kids. But when they got older, it
- 24:58Speaker 1: was like, we can't write the same story, Like Arnold
- 25:01Speaker 1: can't get kidnapped anymore. He's nineteen years old, you know
- 25:05Speaker 1: what I mean.
- 25:05Speaker 2: They bringing a young, cute kid.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So they bring in a young cute kid and they
- 25:09Speaker 1: let all of those stories happen to that kid. And
- 25:11Speaker 1: that's what they tried to do with Scrubs. They felt like,
- 25:16Speaker 1: for some reason, the audience can't relate to these guys
- 25:19Speaker 1: going through these stories. Anymore. It was really about when
- 25:23Speaker 1: they were Scrubs was really new and fresh, when they
- 25:26Speaker 1: were young and they were energetic, and they were and
- 25:29Speaker 1: they were and they were and they didn't know all
- 25:32Speaker 1: the answers. Let's recreate that again. Even better, Let's throw
- 25:37Speaker 1: them in a school and turn it into a classroom
- 25:41Speaker 1: setting head of the class, and we'll bring back all
- 25:43Speaker 1: of our favorites to teach these kids right that shit
- 25:47Speaker 1: doesn't work. Now.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Were you and Johnny c the only regulars from the
- 25:52Speaker 2: original cast or was Sarah?
- 25:53Speaker 9: Yes?
- 25:54Speaker 2: I think Sarah and.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I comes back and does like six episodes. You do
- 25:59Speaker 1: six episodes when you leave, Sarah comes, there's six episodes
- 26:04Speaker 1: where it's you and you're still narrating the show, trying
- 26:07Speaker 1: to keep everybody there right, and then you leave and
- 26:10Speaker 1: it's all thrown on to Carrie BChE and and I'm
- 26:16Speaker 1: gonna be honest with you, guys, it's a big ask. Yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 1: it's not the same show.
- 26:21Speaker 2: But she's very charming and able.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I love her fucking jumping over the counter and doing
- 26:27Speaker 1: that stuff.
- 26:28Speaker 2: She's I like to think I discovered Carrie Bouche, but
- 26:33Speaker 2: I but Bill would probably fight me on that because
- 26:35Speaker 2: I cast her in a pilot that my brother Adam wrote,
- 26:39Speaker 2: and it probably didn't get picked up, but we shot
- 26:41Speaker 2: it and we cast her and she was so good
- 26:43Speaker 2: in it. And I feel like I must have mentioned
- 26:45Speaker 2: her and showed Bill the pilot. He would probably have
- 26:48Speaker 2: a different answer for that, but I think that. But anyway,
- 26:52Speaker 2: I always thought she's so so charming and interesting.
- 26:55Speaker 8: You know.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Another thing that came to my mind is do you
- 26:57Speaker 2: remember him in Groundhog Day when he naturally falls on
- 27:01Speaker 2: the ground in a romantic way with it's Annie mccarwell, right.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and then when his con is finally working, Yes.
- 27:09Speaker 2: And then he tries to like recreate it and it's
- 27:12Speaker 2: so cringe it doesn't happen naturally. Do you remember that?
- 27:14Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 27:15Speaker 2: That That's kind of how I felt watching this. I
- 27:18Speaker 2: felt like we're trying to like cringely recreate like something
- 27:22Speaker 2: that was working. So you and I doing an eagle
- 27:25Speaker 2: like and saying eagle twice and screaming from across the
- 27:29Speaker 2: parking lot, just like we did when when you came
- 27:31Speaker 2: back from your honeymoon. It just felt like we were
- 27:34Speaker 2: doing that that Groundhog Day of trying to like recreate
- 27:37Speaker 2: something that had been magical.
- 27:40Speaker 1: All right, I might say one last thing and then
- 27:42Speaker 1: you're going to be mad. You guys are gonna be mad.
- 27:44Speaker 2: I'm not gonna be mad. We want your honesty.
- 27:47Speaker 1: The show got better when it was just focused on us. Also,
- 27:50Speaker 1: like what hundred I didn't give two craps about the
- 27:54Speaker 1: interns or yeah, no you were.
- 27:55Speaker 2: But you have to look at it from a non
- 27:57Speaker 2: biased point of view.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Do you think you were just was just going into this.
- 28:00Speaker 1: If I was just coming into this show and I
- 28:02Speaker 1: had never seen Scrubs before in my life, right, and
- 28:06Speaker 1: this was the first introduction, I'd be like, oh, wow,
- 28:08Speaker 1: this is a really cool show. These guys are great.
- 28:10Speaker 1: But after nine, after eight years, and then going into
- 28:15Speaker 1: this and then bringing back the same people and then
- 28:18Speaker 1: saying it's Scrubs with Bill's right, that was the mistake.
- 28:21Speaker 1: They should have called that ship something else.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Yeah, med School just maybe we should have been.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Maybe we shouldn't have been in it. Maybe driving down to.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Sunset Boulevard today and there was like a billboard for
- 28:32Speaker 2: the New Law and Order with Tony Goldwyn, and then
- 28:34Speaker 2: there was a bill a separate billboard for SVU, and
- 28:36Speaker 2: then there was a separate billboard for another one. Yeah,
- 28:40Speaker 2: and I was like, uh, there's like so many law
- 28:42Speaker 2: and orders and like it could have that would have
- 28:44Speaker 2: that wouldn't have better. Yeah, it would have been a
- 28:46Speaker 2: better route to be like med School. Yeah, and Bill
- 28:50Speaker 2: Bill Bill has said he tried so hard for that,
- 28:52Speaker 2: but they didn't want to do that because they were
- 28:54Speaker 2: worried about the branding of it. O.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I would have been dope, then you can compete against
- 28:58Speaker 1: your own show and stuff like that, Scrubs, Scrubs, Med School.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Then you have the crossovers. Yeah, that would have been
- 29:05Speaker 1: fire Man. It didn't work.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It didn't work like that. Also an another variable that was,
- 29:09Speaker 2: you know, changing the environment so drastically, I think in
- 29:12Speaker 2: addition to it being you know, for those of you
- 29:14Speaker 2: who listened, all eight years of Scrubs were filmed at
- 29:17Speaker 2: an actual abandoned hospital. This is the first season that
- 29:20Speaker 2: was shot on sets. So when you're when you see
- 29:23Speaker 2: the outdoor area, that's actually the back lot of.
- 29:28Speaker 1: The back those are those are office buildings on Culver
- 29:32Speaker 1: City Studios. On the Culver City Studios.
- 29:34Speaker 10: I think it's now Amazon, right, Yeah, that's the new
- 29:37Speaker 10: That was the new buildings that they had built for
- 29:41Speaker 10: the people that worked and the other side where we
- 29:44Speaker 10: filmed like the quad and all that stuff was where
- 29:46Speaker 10: like Gone with the Wind and all of that shit
- 29:49Speaker 10: was filmed.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Uh, and that used to be that used to be
- 29:53Speaker 1: the bag the offices.
- 29:54Speaker 2: I think pieces of Wizard of Oz maybe were shot there.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Like it's an old lot along with next it is Sony,
- 30:00Speaker 2: which which definitely had some Wizard of Oz. I'm not
- 30:03Speaker 2: sure what falls where, but yeah, lots of old classic movies.
- 30:06Speaker 2: And then then it was called the Culver City Lot
- 30:09Speaker 2: and now I think it's been bought by Amazon if
- 30:11Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken.
- 30:13Speaker 1: It was Culver Studios when we were there.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Okay, and that's where Bill shot Cougartown and that's why
- 30:19Speaker 2: it was moved there so Bill could kind of run
- 30:21Speaker 2: back and forth.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Between run back and forth.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Well, I think he didn't do much running back and forth.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But in theory he could overread Cougartown like this.
- 30:30Speaker 2: He could oversee Cougartown. But anyway, when you're seeing all
- 30:34Speaker 2: those exterior shots, that's like, yeah, Donald's right, it's not
- 30:36Speaker 2: even a backlot. It's just like it's just like that
- 30:38Speaker 2: was just the outdoor area of this lot. And then
- 30:42Speaker 2: all the interior stuff was was were sets on a
- 30:45Speaker 2: stage and also in addition to that, it was we
- 30:48Speaker 2: had shot eight years on sixteen millimeter film and I
- 30:50Speaker 2: believe this this was the first time the show moved
- 30:53Speaker 2: to HD video, So all of those factors make it
- 30:58Speaker 2: have quite a different look.
- 30:59Speaker 1: You know.
- 31:01Speaker 5: The look was a bigger factor than I anticipated. It
- 31:04Speaker 5: really makes a difference. It's a huge, huge difference.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Well yeah, my big laughs, my big laughs. Okay, stories
- 31:12Speaker 1: that I'm interested in.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Wait, We're going to go through the whole show and
- 31:14Speaker 2: I'll just do your highlights.
- 31:16Speaker 1: My bad. I thought we were.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I mean, I don't like the way I looked either.
- 31:21Speaker 1: You don't like the way you looked? Yeah, I just
- 31:24Speaker 1: I just you know, I could tell you, talk to
- 31:27Speaker 1: you about the way I looked. I had fake like
- 31:29Speaker 1: all right, so my teeth are not real. They're not
- 31:32Speaker 1: the teeth that I were born with. I've got veneers
- 31:34Speaker 1: and I'm I've but this was going through the process
- 31:38Speaker 1: of it, so at this point I had like fake
- 31:43Speaker 1: like not even veneers. So it's like that gel that
- 31:47Speaker 1: they put yeah, kind of pretty much, but it's like
- 31:49Speaker 1: the gel that they put in your mouth and then
- 31:50Speaker 1: they shape your teeth to make it look like you
- 31:53Speaker 1: have teeth and stuff like that. And so when I
- 31:56Speaker 1: look at this, all I see is the and you
- 31:59Speaker 1: have to have this wash because they've this is back
- 32:02Speaker 1: in the day, because they've grinded down your teeth and
- 32:04Speaker 1: your gums are like exposed and stuff like that. And
- 32:07Speaker 1: so when I look at that, all I see is
- 32:09Speaker 1: just the smell that I was going through at that time.
- 32:12Speaker 2: How long did you have to have a smelly teeth?
- 32:16Speaker 1: It was for like a good three months and stuff
- 32:18Speaker 1: like that. So while we were filming this, and then
- 32:21Speaker 1: towards the end, I get my permanent jump offs in.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I think, will you let us know when we were
- 32:27Speaker 2: watching these when you have.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Your when it skips over, Oh, you'll be able to
- 32:30Speaker 1: tell because the smile gets so big.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Should we take a break, Dew, great idea, Zach, all right,
- 32:38Speaker 2: we're gonna take a break. When we come back, we're
- 32:39Speaker 2: going to talk about how much Donald loves season nine,
- 32:42Speaker 2: what you're trying to get into one day, or what you're.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Trying to do.
- 32:48Speaker 2: We'll be right back. Well, there's not a lot of
- 33:03Speaker 2: us in this episode. Let's talk about who is there.
- 33:05Speaker 2: You got Dave Franco. You got Carrie Masha, You've got
- 33:08Speaker 2: Eliza Coop, You've got Nicky.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Wheelan, you got Michael Winslow. Michael his real name.
- 33:17Speaker 2: That's gonna sound what.
- 33:18Speaker 1: That's what I called him. So I got a I
- 33:21Speaker 1: got a great story about that too. His name is
- 33:24Speaker 1: Mike Mosley.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Mike Mosley.
- 33:26Speaker 1: He did a great too, but but I thought his
- 33:28Speaker 1: last name was For some reason, I confused him with
- 33:30Speaker 1: Michael Winslow, and so I started calling him Winslow on set.
- 33:34Speaker 1: You know, Michael went cringe right, no doubt. So he
- 33:39Speaker 1: throws a party and I'm old man at this time,
- 33:44Speaker 1: but I'll give fuck I'm like thirty seven, and he
- 33:48Speaker 1: doesn't invite any of the older people. I don't get
- 33:51Speaker 1: to invite Zacherson, and I'm pissed off. But he invites
- 33:54Speaker 1: all the young motherfuckers but he doesn't invite the o
- 33:56Speaker 1: G cast. I'm like this mother right, And I go
- 33:59Speaker 1: to a live I go to Eliza Cooper and I go, yo,
- 34:01Speaker 1: hold on, Eliza, you got invited to Michael Winslow's party.
- 34:07Speaker 1: And she was like, who I said, Michael Winslow, you
- 34:10Speaker 1: know the dude that place drew And she goes, you
- 34:14Speaker 1: mean Michael Mosley and I go, oh, I go, yeah,
- 34:20Speaker 1: well he didn't invite me to the party. You've been
- 34:23Speaker 1: calling him Michael Winslow.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Oh my god, did you ever did you ever take
- 34:28Speaker 2: ownership of that and apologize?
- 34:30Speaker 1: I was like, motherfucker, why didn't you correct me and
- 34:32Speaker 1: say my name is fucking Michael Moseley. He's like, I
- 34:38Speaker 1: didn't realize that you were calling me Michael Winslow. Like,
- 34:40Speaker 1: mother fin you out so full of shit Winslow. It's
- 34:45Speaker 1: like how motherfuckers call me clueless.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Last, in the spirit of us trying to recreate moments
- 34:52Speaker 2: all our groundhog Day, I thought when we hugged and well,
- 34:55Speaker 2: I say, you smell like you've been in prison, that was.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Not funny at all.
- 35:00Speaker 6: And also it was when you.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Know what our hug was like like seasons one through eight,
- 35:06Speaker 2: It used to be like we did two guys who
- 35:07Speaker 2: love each other. This was like these two on a
- 35:09Speaker 2: fuck Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Dude, I'm knocked over the stunt man to get to you.
- 35:17Speaker 2: It was too much. The look of the smelling you
- 35:20Speaker 2: is like, like, yeah, too much.
- 35:23Speaker 1: I think she comes by and she goes to you guys,
- 35:25Speaker 1: But I think that's the joke also because she's like,
- 35:28Speaker 1: you guys need a room. It was, but we skipped
- 35:31Speaker 1: so much. See, this is what I'm talking about. This
- 35:34Speaker 1: is what I'm talking about. The show gets funny to
- 35:37Speaker 1: me right when my head is on the motherfucking on
- 35:43Speaker 1: the damn thing. That's when I was like, all right,
- 35:45Speaker 1: this is funny.
- 35:46Speaker 2: The white mannekin. It's funny when you give all your
- 35:48Speaker 2: students an f because they're white.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that's when I started laughing, this is funny.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Well raise your hand if you're white. Yeah, that was
- 36:03Speaker 2: funny that.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:08Speaker 2: We have a little guy love reprise right after that.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Yeah, then we run each other.
- 36:13Speaker 2: We said, I seem like a prisoner. And then then
- 36:15Speaker 2: someone is like, well, how long has it been since
- 36:17Speaker 2: you guys seen each other? We carpooled here this morning.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Then we see the new title sequence, which is really weird.
- 36:26Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever seen it.
- 36:29Speaker 1: That's nice. I remember shooting it.
- 36:30Speaker 2: It's not bane. I remember shooting it too. I remember
- 36:33Speaker 2: being like, why do I have to be in this?
- 36:34Speaker 2: I'm not even in the show anymore.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Six episodes.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But then it's it's it's Wahs and the artist named
- 36:42Speaker 2: wa was It's not laslow Bane. It's not Chad from
- 36:45Speaker 2: laslow Baine singing his own song.
- 36:48Speaker 1: It's very melancholic all of a sudden, like they're trying
- 36:52Speaker 1: to do I don't know, man, it said, Listen, I'm
- 36:55Speaker 1: not hating on the show. I just feel like it
- 36:57Speaker 1: was the room being honest. It was I think, and
- 37:01Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. I laughed a couple of times.
- 37:04Speaker 1: It just didn't feel like it's just branded wrong. I
- 37:09Speaker 1: agree with that the branding should have been.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Yeah, well, let me give you a little thing. On
- 37:14Speaker 2: the title sequence, it's a new version covered by singer
- 37:17Speaker 2: songwriter Waz, who was featured before on Scrubs in My
- 37:21Speaker 2: Full Moon and who was also responsible for the music
- 37:23Speaker 2: in Bill Lawrence this other show, Cougartown. The chest X
- 37:26Speaker 2: ray in the title sequence is no longer backwards. And
- 37:30Speaker 2: also Bill Lawrence managed to sneak in Med School like
- 37:32Speaker 2: he wanted in an attempt to position the new season
- 37:35Speaker 2: as a spin off.
- 37:37Speaker 1: That's what it should have been, right then and there.
- 37:39Speaker 1: It should have just said in Med School and not Scrubs.
- 37:42Speaker 1: And I don't think. I don't think we should have
- 37:45Speaker 1: been in it. That's just me from We're from where
- 37:49Speaker 1: we're at right now. I think we're so distracting to
- 37:52Speaker 1: the audience. This is why we're so distracting to the audience,
- 37:58Speaker 1: you know what I mean, the one person that could
- 38:00Speaker 1: be there. You keep Eliza, and you can even bring
- 38:03Speaker 1: in Kelso. But we're so distracting to the audience that
- 38:08Speaker 1: it makes it so that it's like, wait, is this
- 38:10Speaker 1: scrubs or is this or is this med school? Who
- 38:14Speaker 1: am I supposed to follow you doing the monologue and
- 38:17Speaker 1: her doing the monologue? It's confused. It's you know what
- 38:20Speaker 1: I mean, as a watcher, it's like, Uh.
- 38:22Speaker 2: The idea was to pass the torch and to warm
- 38:25Speaker 2: up the audience to Carriebousche, and then little by little
- 38:28Speaker 2: JD fades out. That was the that was the plan.
- 38:33Speaker 1: We're really heavily in this story. In the beginning of it, though, I.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Laughed the janitor quits when he finds out that JD's
- 38:40Speaker 2: not really coming back.
- 38:41Speaker 1: A lot of people know this, but he was contracted
- 38:46Speaker 1: to do the middle Yeah, but I'm saying story wise,
- 38:49Speaker 1: it's funny when they do that.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I laughed at that little flashback when when you tell
- 38:52Speaker 2: him that I'm never coming back.
- 38:54Speaker 1: You he just puts them and he puts them up.
- 38:57Speaker 1: It doesn't it doesn't track.
- 38:58Speaker 2: But yeah, he just hands off the mop and leaves.
- 39:01Speaker 2: His whole goal, his whole reason for staying at the hospital.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Was the torture. Left you left in the last episode.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Right, No, there's a flashback. It's not saying recently, it's
- 39:11Speaker 2: saying after flashback.
- 39:13Speaker 1: But it doesn't track. So you're saying the day you left,
- 39:16Speaker 1: the day you were out to out after all of
- 39:19Speaker 1: that ship.
- 39:21Speaker 2: That's what happened. That's what's funny about it.
- 39:24Speaker 1: No, they could have just said they laid his ass off.
- 39:26Speaker 1: They said something like that. That would have been I
- 39:29Speaker 1: think it's funny that he leaves. It doesn't track because.
- 39:33Speaker 2: He's His reason for being was the torture JD. When
- 39:36Speaker 2: he doesn't have JD, he's like, fuck this, I retire.
- 39:38Speaker 1: He was there before JD. The whole conversation about the
- 39:42Speaker 1: episode about how he the group's always changed and everything
- 39:46Speaker 1: like that.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I know, but like, just like, just like JD was
- 39:49Speaker 2: Cox's favorite student, JD became the Janitor's raison debtra his
- 39:56Speaker 2: reason for existing. He committed his whole life to torturing JD.
- 40:02Speaker 2: And when JD was gone. He was like, I'm going
- 40:04Speaker 2: to retire. O. Fuck this place.
- 40:08Speaker 1: There's so many people. He sold the scroll arm.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Hand with Stephen. He does Stephen, Stephen who whatever? We
- 40:19Speaker 2: didn't do we ever find out what happened Stephen. Okay,
- 40:24Speaker 2: So JD has Stephen somewhere. Okay, so let's get in
- 40:27Speaker 2: some more of this. Cox has has numbers.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Was that seeing him in front of all of those people,
- 40:33Speaker 1: man doing the freaking monologue now is good as he's
- 40:36Speaker 1: in a as as if he's in a perscenium.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I was good. I thought. I thought that set, by
- 40:41Speaker 2: the way, was good. Was if you're going to do
- 40:43Speaker 2: a college classroom set, that was a really good looking
- 40:45Speaker 2: set by Cabin McMullen. And I thought Johnny did a
- 40:49Speaker 2: good job with that monologue.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Obviously, I I was pissed off after I saw his office,
- 40:55Speaker 1: I mean his uh, his classroom, and then I saw
- 40:58Speaker 1: my classroom the size of a shoe box.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Well, I think the idea is that he gets to
- 41:07Speaker 2: freaking he gets the freaking hole. Yeah, that was good though,
- 41:11Speaker 2: I mean was that was he did a really good job.
- 41:13Speaker 2: And then we see me meet so he Cox gives
- 41:15Speaker 2: different numbers to the med students, and he gives Kerryebsha nineteen,
- 41:21Speaker 2: meaning her ranking is nineteenth from his favorite. And we
- 41:28Speaker 2: meet the beautiful Australian actress Nikki Wheeland, who doesn't have
- 41:31Speaker 2: much to do in this first episode.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But nobody can understand what.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Nobody can understand her. That's kind of funny.
- 41:37Speaker 1: What is she saying?
- 41:38Speaker 2: He has no idea what she's saying. Drew and Eliza
- 41:42Speaker 2: we established they have. There's a lot of sex in
- 41:45Speaker 2: this episode.
- 41:46Speaker 1: They established their relationships quite early.
- 41:50Speaker 6: I know.
- 41:50Speaker 2: I think they really wanted to say in the pilot, like, guys,
- 41:53Speaker 2: there's gonna be lots of sex, please stay tuned.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Sex with a lot of young people.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Hey, guys, young people will be banging. Please stay tuned.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Tonight on a very special episode of Med School. There
- 42:07Speaker 1: will be banging.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Yes, tonight, there'll be some jokes and banging on SCOF.
- 42:15Speaker 2: So you've got Carrie Bouchet hooking up with Dave Franco,
- 42:18Speaker 2: And how fucked up is it that Dave Franco takes
- 42:20Speaker 2: a secret picture of her bending over and prints it
- 42:27Speaker 2: and then just carries it around and carries it around.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Okay, so I was confused. Is he carrying it around
- 42:34Speaker 1: to show people we never know, or is he carrying
- 42:38Speaker 1: it around because he never wants to forget the moment?
- 42:43Speaker 1: I mean, is it a central Like first of all, one, two,
- 42:47Speaker 1: his ass should be in jail for shit like that, right,
- 42:50Speaker 1: don't you go to jail for stuff like that?
- 42:53Speaker 4: Well you can't.
- 42:55Speaker 2: Yeah, First of all, it's so fucked up. And then
- 42:57Speaker 2: the only thing I hated more than that was the
- 42:59Speaker 2: fact that when Jad finally has a good teacher moment,
- 43:02Speaker 2: he becomes he's very you know, empathized with Carrie Bouchet
- 43:05Speaker 2: obviously because he was in her spot. That's the whole
- 43:07Speaker 2: point of handing off this journey to carry Boschet's character.
- 43:11Speaker 2: And then he leads her off and then sneaks a
- 43:13Speaker 2: look at the picture again. It was so like I
- 43:15Speaker 2: was like no, I was like, no, that is not
- 43:19Speaker 2: the way. First of all, how does he recognize her
- 43:23Speaker 2: if it's a picture of her bent over?
- 43:27Speaker 3: Right?
- 43:27Speaker 4: She says, this is a picture of me, and then
- 43:30Speaker 4: I think JD responds to that.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Okay, But but just for Clarity's sake, I know it
- 43:36Speaker 2: was a comedy and everything, but when we see Cole
- 43:38Speaker 2: take the picture and she's bent over, like she's putting
- 43:41Speaker 2: her socks on or whatever. So it doesn't really make
- 43:45Speaker 2: sense that she would be able to.
- 43:46Speaker 1: I mean, that's what I'm trying to say. It's collogy. Now.
- 43:49Speaker 1: The way the show looks it does feel very national
- 43:52Speaker 1: lampoon ish, old school lampoonish.
- 43:56Speaker 4: He does have lampoonish vibes, Yeah, lampoonish, Spottish.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Now, JD. I really didn't like JD as a teacher.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I know that's supposed to be the joke that he's
- 44:07Speaker 2: like so performative and lights camera teach. It's like so
- 44:10Speaker 2: much and none of the students are into it. Understandably,
- 44:16Speaker 2: there was a cool fantasy when camera teach. What I
- 44:23Speaker 2: w It's funny because he's supposed to be like bad
- 44:25Speaker 2: at it, which we're supposed to go, oh, I see
- 44:28Speaker 2: JD's not good at this. But I was kind of cringing, like, oh,
- 44:33Speaker 2: he's annoying. I don't want to be I don't know,
- 44:35Speaker 2: but what what hold on?
- 44:38Speaker 1: Lights, camera teach. He's not teaching for the students, he's
- 44:44Speaker 1: teaching for him. He's freaking I'm fucking on stage. He's
- 44:47Speaker 1: on stage at this moment.
- 44:49Speaker 4: JD's imagination there isn't a full camera crew.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, he's living in a musical theater. He has
- 44:57Speaker 2: to come up with a sign for when to take
- 44:58Speaker 2: them to diagnosity. He comes up with Sam. Yeah, he's
- 45:02Speaker 2: living his dream as a performer in front of that
- 45:05Speaker 2: giant classroom.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Now I did like the fantasy of I thought it
- 45:11Speaker 2: was shot well. When Carrie leaps over the Yeah, and
- 45:14Speaker 2: Johnny c who would totally be cast as a sheriff
- 45:17Speaker 2: on a man hunt, totally southern sheriff on a manhunt
- 45:21Speaker 2: with dogs. Johnny would get that part.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I thought that, say less, Johnny, would you want what?
- 45:30Speaker 7: Oh?
- 45:31Speaker 1: A state trooper on a manhunt with a dog?
- 45:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm there, stay less, Can my biceps be out?
- 45:37Speaker 1: I'm there?
- 45:40Speaker 2: Can the Can the shirt around my biceps be very fitted? Okay,
- 45:44Speaker 2: I'll get the next flight out there.
- 45:46Speaker 1: I am on my way. Where are we feeling? New Mexico?
- 45:49Speaker 1: On my way?
- 45:50Speaker 2: I've worked there. I'm on my way.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Are we staying the Andolous? I'll be there.
- 45:56Speaker 2: So what's it called the there's like two hotels in
- 46:03Speaker 2: New Mexico in Albuquerque where actors always stay. Is that
- 46:06Speaker 2: what the one that you're talking about?
- 46:07Speaker 1: The andolous.
- 46:09Speaker 2: I think that maybe what I stayed in too.
- 46:11Speaker 1: That's the one everybody says, with the courtyard downstairs with
- 46:14Speaker 1: the little booths all around.
- 46:16Speaker 2: And I think, so you stay stayed in another one,
- 46:20Speaker 2: that's the one I stayed in one that was kind
- 46:22Speaker 2: of nice.
- 46:23Speaker 1: This was nice. It's nice, or it was when I
- 46:25Speaker 1: was there, the fourth Star hotel. Let's take a break.
- 46:29Speaker 2: We'll be right back after these fine words. Okay, So
- 46:40Speaker 2: Lucy sleeps with cold. We got the picture.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Oh, I liked.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I laughed at that when I said to Cox, stay
- 46:45Speaker 2: open for business in here in your heart cage.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I liked. I liked that. JD's wearing the jacket from
- 46:52Speaker 1: Dangerous Minds?
- 46:54Speaker 2: Yeah, so how did JD get the jacket from danger sions?
- 46:56Speaker 1: We never learned that back probably wanted out an auction.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Michelle Fifer probably hadn't auction, but he was auctioning off
- 47:03Speaker 1: and on.
- 47:04Speaker 2: But he adds the professorial. Uh, why do professors always
- 47:08Speaker 2: have those? Someone tell me about it? Why that is
- 47:11Speaker 2: a trope? Why do professors always no? But what is
- 47:17Speaker 2: the what is the reason?
- 47:19Speaker 1: What is the reason? On their table, they're on the
- 47:21Speaker 1: desk talking to the kids grading with their heads down.
- 47:26Speaker 2: I just want to know why we associate elbow patches
- 47:29Speaker 2: with professors.
- 47:31Speaker 1: It has to be because the elbows are on the
- 47:33Speaker 1: desks all the time. So uh.
- 47:37Speaker 5: Based on a little cursory web search, it looks like
- 47:39Speaker 5: the stereotype started because tweed was a relatively cheap, but
- 47:43Speaker 5: warm material, and professors were a relatively poorly paid class
- 47:47Speaker 5: of professionals, so they kept wearing them until the elbows
- 47:49Speaker 5: were out, and then they patched them.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Okay, well that's that makes sense, But now it's become
- 47:55Speaker 2: just a thing. If you're going to play a professor,
- 47:57Speaker 2: you better have some elbow patches on. So but JD
- 48:02Speaker 2: when he bought her Michelle Pfeiffer's Dangerous Mind's coat, it
- 48:06Speaker 2: didn't have elbow patches, so he added them.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Yeah, his leather is the leather jacket, right, No, the.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Leather patches probably sweded.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Probably, I'm talking about the jacket. She wears a leather
- 48:18Speaker 1: jacket in that I'm I'm confusing it with freaking La
- 48:21Speaker 1: la land. She wears a leather jacket, the red leather
- 48:24Speaker 1: jacket or the audition confused? Oh, for the audition, that's
- 48:30Speaker 1: Dangerous Minds meets.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Oh when she does the Dangerous Minds audition. That's it's
- 48:35Speaker 2: so funny. What does she say about?
- 48:37Speaker 1: No you you you be chilling? You, you be bucking? Yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: you be tripping? Yeah? Why you be tripped?
- 48:44Speaker 8: Lady?
- 48:44Speaker 1: Why you be tripping?
- 48:46Speaker 9: No?
- 48:46Speaker 1: No, such you be tripping?
- 48:54Speaker 2: And I love that the casting director is like, it's
- 48:56Speaker 2: actually it's.
- 48:57Speaker 1: An actual casting director that's reading with her.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Hey lady, you be tripping? No, no, Jamal, lady,
- 49:06Speaker 2: why you be tripping? And I think the character's name
- 49:10Speaker 2: is Jamal?
- 49:11Speaker 1: Right, but lady, why you be tripping? Right?
- 49:17Speaker 2: It might be I don't know, can you look that up?
- 49:20Speaker 2: Guys does play casting director in?
- 49:24Speaker 1: But why do you be tripping? That's it's a hilarity. No,
- 49:28Speaker 1: I want to say it's like no raheem, but it's
- 49:30Speaker 1: probably no Jamal.
- 49:31Speaker 2: It's something like, I think it's Jamal, No Jamal, you
- 49:34Speaker 2: be tripping?
- 49:35Speaker 1: You be tripping?
- 49:39Speaker 2: That ship's hilarious. And anyone who's an actor who's been
- 49:44Speaker 2: out here in this town that the reason that is
- 49:47Speaker 2: so funny is because a some casting directors will will
- 49:50Speaker 2: read like that to you, and you're like, you have
- 49:53Speaker 2: to act off of it and to the idea of like,
- 49:57Speaker 2: you know, just doing it of her auditioning for a
- 49:59Speaker 2: d Dre's minds like role was just so funny. Damn,
- 50:04Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm open TikTok. You know they're
- 50:10Speaker 2: about to ban this sucking app anyway.
- 50:13Speaker 1: That's gone, dude, TikTok about to be gone.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Can you play it? Play it in the Yeah, I
- 50:19Speaker 2: got to kill I got you hold on, Daniel's going
- 50:21Speaker 2: to play it for us.
- 50:23Speaker 7: This is my classroom.
- 50:25Speaker 2: You don't like it? The doors from my left lady,
- 50:27Speaker 2: Why you be tripping like that? No, Jamal, you be tripping.
- 50:41Speaker 2: But you know it's so good about a stone room.
- 50:43Speaker 2: She sold the ship out of.
- 50:44Speaker 1: It, like you were like, this is where this is
- 50:47Speaker 1: where I get pissed off. In the beginning of the movie,
- 50:50Speaker 1: that first audition she goes to where she's studying it.
- 50:52Speaker 1: In the we're doing La La Land all of a sudden,
- 50:54Speaker 1: I digress. But anyway, the beginning of the movies, we
- 50:59Speaker 1: watch podcast when she goes to the freaking audition and
- 51:03Speaker 1: she's freaking standing there and she's talking to like her
- 51:06Speaker 1: lover on the phone and she's like, Yo, so you're
- 51:09Speaker 1: gonna when are you gonna tell her, you're gonna tell
- 51:11Speaker 1: your wife in such and such that we're together, or
- 51:13Speaker 1: when you and he's and he has to change your heart,
- 51:16Speaker 1: and she and and she has to play it off
- 51:19Speaker 1: like she's happy, but she's crying and she's crushed, and
- 51:22Speaker 1: the casting director is not paying attention. She's killing it
- 51:25Speaker 1: in that scene, she's destroying it, and the casting director
- 51:30Speaker 1: doesn't see it. That's just so frustrating.
- 51:32Speaker 2: But I know, like during that movie, if you're supposed
- 51:34Speaker 2: to think that she's a great actress early on or not,
- 51:40Speaker 2: because I think you're supposed to be see for one
- 51:42Speaker 2: woman show, it didn't look that great, right.
- 51:45Speaker 8: No.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I think the thing is that's the whole thing. There
- 51:48Speaker 1: are so many great actors out there, and until you
- 51:51Speaker 1: get your break, until somebody's willing to take a chance
- 51:54Speaker 1: on you, you're not going to get that work right, right.
- 51:56Speaker 1: And so here she is killing all of this shit.
- 51:59Speaker 1: She's in there fucking crushing it, and all these other
- 52:02Speaker 1: people suck and she's fucking nailing it, and the cast
- 52:05Speaker 1: and director's got fucking Joe Blow on their mind and
- 52:09Speaker 1: is not thinking of them, right, And same thing with
- 52:11Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Same thing with the director
- 52:13Speaker 1: directors like, yeah, she's different, She's not the one. You know,
- 52:16Speaker 1: I'm really into this girl. I'm not into this girl.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Fuck this, let's go with you know what I mean?
- 52:20Speaker 2: Like it's it's and then and then to your point,
- 52:23Speaker 2: when she has that audition where she sings that audition song,
- 52:27Speaker 2: someone she's so dropped into what they were looking for.
- 52:30Speaker 2: That someone then takes a chance on her, and her
- 52:32Speaker 2: career takes off, and it.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Takes off, and it's like finally I see you, and
- 52:36Speaker 1: then everybody sees her.
- 52:37Speaker 2: Now do you need to go into your loud monologue
- 52:40Speaker 2: about how there's plenty of jazz clubs in Paris? And
- 52:42Speaker 2: Ryan Goslin could have gone there.
- 52:44Speaker 1: No, no, no, because Ryan's just can now it's all good,
- 52:48Speaker 1: all right.
- 52:48Speaker 2: I really missed the era of you drunk tweeting about
- 52:51Speaker 2: Lawa Land while you were on airplanes. That was a phase.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I watched that movie because I listen, man, that movie.
- 52:57Speaker 2: I would love back when I was on Twitter donalds
- 53:04Speaker 2: Alane again because he's fucking he's writing tweets like there
- 53:07Speaker 2: are plenty of jazz clubs in Paris. I don't know
- 53:10Speaker 2: why he didn't follow her.
- 53:13Speaker 1: No, because he didn't need to. I don't look now.
- 53:15Speaker 1: I look at it and I'm like, look in my eyes.
- 53:18Speaker 1: This story is it's the journey, right, everybody has a
- 53:22Speaker 1: different journey, and he's two connected at one point. But
- 53:26Speaker 1: I did want them to be together in the Beautiful Beautiful,
- 53:30Speaker 1: And he's so happy at the end of the movie. Also,
- 53:33Speaker 1: so it doesn't matter.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I don't know that he's happy at the end of
- 53:35Speaker 2: the movie.
- 53:36Speaker 1: He had exactly what he wanted, you know what I mean.
- 53:39Speaker 1: But he didn't want her back then either, Yes he did.
- 53:41Speaker 2: You don't think his heart was breaking and she walks
- 53:43Speaker 2: out of the club.
- 53:45Speaker 1: No, he would have made it to the show. He
- 53:47Speaker 1: would have made it to the show if he wanted her.
- 53:49Speaker 2: No, when she walks out of the club after he
- 53:50Speaker 2: would have made it.
- 53:51Speaker 1: To the show. He would have told just a legend
- 53:53Speaker 1: to kiss my fucking ass. I gotta go see my
- 53:57Speaker 1: decision he needs way more important. That's the decision he
- 54:00Speaker 1: made then. But years later, when she comes with her
- 54:04Speaker 1: husband to the jazz show and Lee is about to
- 54:07Speaker 1: leave and at the door has that fantasy and they
- 54:10Speaker 1: make eye contact, I think he realizes that she's the
- 54:13Speaker 1: one that got away, and he's so sad that she's
- 54:16Speaker 1: walking on. I think they both realized what life could
- 54:19Speaker 1: have been for them if they would have stayed together,
- 54:21Speaker 1: and how happy they could have been. But I think
- 54:24Speaker 1: when they look at each other, they're both in a
- 54:26Speaker 1: really good space.
- 54:28Speaker 2: I disagree. I think, do you guys have that interpretation
- 54:31Speaker 2: of it?
- 54:32Speaker 4: I like that it's kind of ambiguous. I've had It's
- 54:35Speaker 4: nice to my father, rest.
- 54:36Speaker 2: In peace, used to love a good end of Lalla
- 54:38Speaker 2: Land debate, but I don't. Sorry, Joell, what's your interpretation?
- 54:42Speaker 2: My interpretation was always that that they both melancholic.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Okay, my interpretation used to be your interpretation. It did,
- 54:50Speaker 1: but I've watched it a few times since he's really.
- 54:56Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 54:57Speaker 3: Since I my thought initially was that he was sad
- 55:04Speaker 3: but happy for her, and she was like, Wow, that
- 55:06Speaker 3: would have been interesting if I stayed with him, But
- 55:07Speaker 3: life turned out pretty sweet for me. She was good,
- 55:11Speaker 3: like she seems like, in such a great place at
- 55:13Speaker 3: the end, and he.
- 55:14Speaker 2: I think Chazelle went out of his way to make
- 55:16Speaker 2: that husband not exciting and not as sexy and not
- 55:20Speaker 2: as interesting as Ryan's character was.
- 55:23Speaker 1: Yes, but don't know anything about him.
- 55:25Speaker 4: Here's a secret reveal to all.
- 55:26Speaker 3: There is a ton of romance, and I really feel
- 55:28Speaker 3: like there's a lot of a lot of romances end
- 55:31Speaker 3: with Okay, I could have been with this exciting person,
- 55:33Speaker 3: but they wouldn't have been the healthy person for me.
- 55:35Speaker 3: So I went with this person who's more subdude, but
- 55:38Speaker 3: who gets me and is very supportive and has made
- 55:40Speaker 3: my life better, you know, And that's kind of the
- 55:43Speaker 3: fame I got with him. Like, no, he's not as
- 55:45Speaker 3: like hot and exciting and like fun as she had
- 55:48Speaker 3: with Ryan, but he's stable and she was able to have.
- 55:52Speaker 1: His character's name it is Sebastian.
- 55:55Speaker 3: I'm sorry, that's a Sebastian. I've really been there for her.
- 56:00Speaker 3: He loves her, and because of that, she was able
- 56:01Speaker 3: to have the career that she wanted.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Daniel, what are your thoughts?
- 56:05Speaker 5: I'm tempted to agree. I mean, you know, it's it's
- 56:08Speaker 5: the sexy thing to want her to be with Ryan Gosling.
- 56:11Speaker 5: It's the sexy thing to have that fiery sorry Sebastian
- 56:15Speaker 5: Park to do a Sebastian. It's the dangerous thing. But
- 56:20Speaker 5: that's not life. Sometimes that's not life.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Have thought that would have been the worst thing ever
- 56:25Speaker 1: if she was with him, if you really think about it,
- 56:26Speaker 1: as self centered as he was as well, you know
- 56:29Speaker 1: what I mean, Like she would have she needed somebody
- 56:32Speaker 1: who's not going to be heartbreak.
- 56:34Speaker 2: The way they look at each other at the end.
- 56:36Speaker 4: O, thank so much, so so much what might have
- 56:39Speaker 4: been between the two.
- 56:40Speaker 2: I think that makes a better movie. It's too together.
- 56:43Speaker 2: I don't want the I don't want the I don't
- 56:46Speaker 2: want the ending to be any different. I'm just I
- 56:48Speaker 2: love the ending. I think it's brilliant in that it
- 56:50Speaker 2: gives the audience this discussion, and they can have this
- 56:52Speaker 2: discussion this many years later. This, I just my personal
- 56:56Speaker 2: interpretation is that they that there was a longing for
- 57:00Speaker 2: what could have been.
- 57:01Speaker 1: We could do how about this? How about this? Let's
- 57:04Speaker 1: do the Notebook.
- 57:05Speaker 2: At the end of the Notebook as well as I
- 57:07Speaker 2: know Lala Lane, oh, you.
- 57:08Speaker 1: Just do it like this. At the end of the
- 57:10Speaker 1: movie the Notebook, she's with the dude that she you know,
- 57:15Speaker 1: fell in love with on the lake, that, you know
- 57:17Speaker 1: what I mean, instead of the other guy, right, the
- 57:21Speaker 1: one that was the good guy right at the end.
- 57:23Speaker 1: It's not like her life would have been that much different.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I think she would have still now gone back to uh.
- 57:32Speaker 1: She would have had a great life with him in
- 57:34Speaker 1: the Notebook, she would had a great life with that guy.
- 57:36Speaker 1: She would have had a great life with the Ryan
- 57:38Speaker 1: Goslin character and this one in La La Lande. I
- 57:42Speaker 1: feel like it's the same thing. She would have had
- 57:44Speaker 1: a great life with this dude and she would have
- 57:47Speaker 1: had a great like she's having a great life with
- 57:50Speaker 1: the guy. There is no wrong answer at the end
- 57:53Speaker 1: for her. For him, it's a fucking huge difference, bro.
- 57:57Speaker 1: And that's why you're saying, I don't know if he's
- 58:00Speaker 1: happy or not. The difference at the end is in
- 58:03Speaker 1: his mind. Holy shit, we would have been I would
- 58:06Speaker 1: have been jay z I would you know? To her
- 58:08Speaker 1: Beyonce instead, I'm fucking underground backpack rapper. And who's still
- 58:15Speaker 1: in the club.
- 58:16Speaker 2: But he has club, he has his own jazz club.
- 58:19Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 58:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but he don't got his own label. You know
- 58:22Speaker 1: what I'm saying.
- 58:24Speaker 2: And that's not my interpresion at all. I'm sorry, audience
- 58:26Speaker 2: will stop.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Some metation is the temptation? Listen?
- 58:29Speaker 4: My point is you talk about La land.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Oh really, this podcast? What if this potat just became
- 58:35Speaker 2: one hundred percent each week we talk about No, I
- 58:42Speaker 2: just I just on that he's got his own jazz club.
- 58:46Speaker 2: He's happy. I'm sure he's like hooking up. I'm saying
- 58:51Speaker 2: he's content with his career, his dreams come true. He
- 58:54Speaker 2: owns the jazz club. But then the love of his
- 58:56Speaker 2: life walks back in with her husband, and I always
- 59:00Speaker 2: felt that he was crushed. Okay, Yeah, and then he
- 59:05Speaker 2: dropped the ball by not going to Paris and by
- 59:08Speaker 2: not going to her one woman show.
- 59:10Speaker 1: He didn't he wasn't invited.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Well, he fucked up by not going to the one
- 59:15Speaker 2: woman show for sure. That's where he To be fair,
- 59:19Speaker 2: I'm glad did not to sit through that woman show.
- 59:20Speaker 2: It didn't look that great.
- 59:25Speaker 6: Okay, she became a movie star because of it, right,
- 59:33Speaker 6: But that doesn't mean a genius talented actress necessarily writes
- 59:36Speaker 6: the best one woman show that you have to sit
- 59:38Speaker 6: through for two hours and be like, it looks like
- 59:40Speaker 6: you're having so much fun up there.
- 59:43Speaker 2: To Pasadena or something like that. I don't know. All
- 59:47Speaker 2: right back to we'll take a break and then we're
- 59:49Speaker 2: going to finish our summary. We'll be right back after this.
- 59:52Speaker 2: What you're trying to get into one day or shoe
- 59:55Speaker 2: what you're trying to do?
- 59:57Speaker 1: Advertisements and we're back, all right? Likes a little assfl
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: They don't even act like you don't okay, I think
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: there was a lot of ass play in this episode.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: How do you know there's ass play?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I'm just guessing, Okay, I'm assuming, I'm assuming making an
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: ass out of you and me.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I'm okay. So Drew Cox says he's going to take
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: a look. By the way, Beard fa Say still works
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: at this hospital. I saw.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I have to say, so of these people in the
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: background are playing interns and they were interned when we
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: were interns, So there's something wrong.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Well, Beard fa Say is definitely a doctor, he's not
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: an intern, and he's still.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Well Sean is an intern and he was. And then
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: what the fuck is Reggie in the purple Scrubs doing
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: in the in the rounds?
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Maybe maybe he decided to become a med student.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: But why does he still got the purple on?
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: I don't know. It was probably like them not know
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: the rules of the different scrubs colors episode one or something.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Boy, they're already crossing, They're already crossing
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: the line.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Cox takes an interest in Drew.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: And let's say why he takes an interest in Drew
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Cox does not. Cox likes to pick on the weaker ones,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: the weaker, the weaker, uh, insecure uh interns. Cox has
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: always enjoyed picking on and he's doing it to Lucy
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: carry Bhay's character. And Drew sees it and decides to
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: jump in the way and be a shield for Lucy
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: and be like a big brother to stop Cox's rage
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: on her and turned the attention elsewhere because he's been
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: in jail and he's you know, we learned that his
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: backstory is that he dropped out of he dropped he
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: flunked out or he.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Like I think he had dropped out or flamed out,
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: meaning just emotionally couldn't handle. Because there's a lot of
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: references to how hard is the am Men student, and
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: there's some there's some there's a couple of references to like,
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: you guys aren't going to last and and and so
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: he flamed out and then for some reason he was
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: in jail.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Yeah, there's something that he did.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: I don't know if we ever learned that. In these
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: twelve episodes, we'll find out.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Maybe we'll see, But Joe seems to get a kick
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: out of him.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: And then JD, as we said earlier, finally talks to Lucy.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: And that's kind of nice because he feels like he's
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: a really bad teacher. He doesn't get invited out to
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: party with them. They don't come to his beer party
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: in the classroom. Only Turk shows up and JD has
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: these glow stick necklaces to wear, and Turk won't even
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: wear the glowstick necklaces.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: And then they go on to walk and the that's
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: kind of off brand though.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like Turk would have rock the glowstick necklace.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's him and JD. They're on about they're outside.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: I love that term, by the way, what yeah sad
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: outside said like if you want to instead of what
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: you're trying to get into, Yeah, you want to go outside.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: That's a term.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: That's the new. Remember when you was a kid and
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: used to say that to people, Yo, you going outside?
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Uh huh, that's back. But for adults, we outside, Yo,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: we outside, Yo meet us outside, were coming out of
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: we outside you And when you outside, you got you
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: gotta be really outside. According to Beyonce, because if you're
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: not that, you're not that outside, right.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: I'll start using that because I like what you're trying
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: to get into.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I need to. I still like what you're trying to
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: get into.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: Don't get a twisted So when you when I text
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: you to do something, you want me to say, do
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: you want to go outside?
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I maan, if you could find a funny way to
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: say it, you're.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Trying to go outside?
- 1:03:36Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: I always think about you, and I'm like, if it
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: just feels like you're not trying to get into.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Anything, I'm not trying to r s v P.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you didn't rs VP on my birthday.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I'll be at your brunch. Bro. I'm fucking skipping Vegas
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: to go to your brunch. Bro. Why were you going
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: to guess my kid got made hoops basketball? I'm skipping
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: that it to be at your brunch. Bro.
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: He's gonna take them. He's not ask some other parents
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: to take them.
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: Man, come on now, really, parenting one O one, you can't.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: You can't have other parents that you trust.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: You sleepovers either.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Sorry, guys, because of his nut allergy.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: That's one reason these motherfuckers I don't know. These motherfuckers
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: they know that they know that they might know the kids.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: These does want to have a.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to have if your kids
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: want to sleep over here, that's cool. But there's no
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: way I'm letting my kids sleep over your house. I'm sorry.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I've even I've even I've even I've even designed my
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: house so that if my kid wants to have friends over,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: it's fun for the kids when they get here and
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: they can have fun.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: Have a question.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: She's not going nowhere, and she's not going nowhere to go.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I'm sorry, very if there's a select few, there's a
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: very select few, and you have to and my wife
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: has either vetted, like.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: Straight up, man, vetting's important, you got a vat no.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: But even vetting, even vetting doesn't necessarily crack the service.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Anybody could be anybody in an interview, you know what
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I mean, I could be somebody else. I'm i fucking
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: somebody else in every interview that I go with.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: So your kids will never your kids will never be
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: allowed to sleep at a friend's.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: House, not until they're much older.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: So those poor kids are like, I just want to
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: go to a movie and sleep over my friend's house. No,
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: go to a movie.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: No, you can go to a movie. I'll take you
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: to a movie. If that's the case. I don't mind
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: that shit. You're not sleeping over them. I'll be picking
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: you up. There you go, all right, un everybody starts
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: to go down. Guess who's coming to get you? What
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: time you're going to bed? You don't know. I'll be
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: there at eight thirty, nine thirty the latest.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: That's what's up. That's what's up. That, my friends, is
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: what's up? So we Joel organized a debate between some fans. Hell, Joelle,
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: how did this work out? What happened?
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: So we asked you guys to send you your voicemails
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: to scrupsiheart atgmail dot com, picking an episode and whether
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: you loved it or you hated it. So we got
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: a ton of emails, a handful of voicemails. If you
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: want to send in for any future episodes, just make
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: sure you put like which episode it is in the title.
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: So we have one positive person in one who is
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: not feeling season nine.
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: All right, let me ask you a question before we continue.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Were these people saying the whole season or specific episodes?
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: I reach out to them and ask them to record
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: specifically on season one episode one.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: So that's okay.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: So if you're going to something different, if you're gonna
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: submit going forward, what we'd like you to do if
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: you want to be on the air is pick a
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: specific episode and put in the subject heading to Joel,
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: this is about season nine episode four. Here's why I
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: love it, Here's why I hate it. Maybe put season
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: nine episode four love or season nine episode four hate,
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: just to make it simple for Jewell, because she's a
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: very busy woman, very smart, and and Carmen who helps us.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Carmen, shout out Carmen.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: And what's the max time, Joell? Like three minutes.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: Maxe minutes max?
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Anyone audio audio?
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: Okay, So this is for Scrubs season nine, episode one.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: We'll start with Aaron.
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: She was not a fan.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Oh Aaron, Okay, go ahead, Hey.
- 1:07:25Speaker 8: Zach, Donald, Joel, and Daniel. My name is Aaron Fodorco
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: and I'm calling on behalf.
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: Of all season nine haters.
- 1:07:35Speaker 8: Specifically, I'm going to talk about why I hated season
- 1:07:39Speaker 8: nine episode one so much. It is the biggest tease
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: of my entire life. To me, what made Scrubs so
- 1:07:51Speaker 8: perfect was the fact that Jad was casted perfectly by
- 1:07:58Speaker 8: Zach Raft. Thank you, and anyone who knows me knows
- 1:08:02Speaker 8: I love Zach Brath. So season nine was an absolute
- 1:08:07Speaker 8: keeyas because it gave me exactly what I wanted.
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: From the start.
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: I got an opening monologue about how he talks about
- 1:08:15Speaker 8: Sacred Heart and his time there, and from that moment
- 1:08:19Speaker 8: he has one of the funniest episodes I have seen
- 1:08:24Speaker 8: from him in a long time.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:08:27Speaker 8: Some examples are the entire scene where JD and Turk
- 1:08:32Speaker 8: are trying to find each other in the hospital and
- 1:08:37Speaker 8: the eagle scene where they are running around the campus
- 1:08:40Speaker 8: and they run into doctor Cox. But I think the
- 1:08:43Speaker 8: funniest thing about this episode is when JD says to
- 1:08:48Speaker 8: doctor Cox, stay open for business in your heart cage.
- 1:08:54Speaker 8: That is probably the hardest I've laughed this entire season
- 1:08:59Speaker 8: of Scrubs, and it is a shame that it was
- 1:09:03Speaker 8: given to me in season nine, episode one. And finally,
- 1:09:13Speaker 8: what made Scrubs work was the chemistry that was built
- 1:09:17Speaker 8: between the core cast over eight seasons, and Bill Lawrence
- 1:09:26Speaker 8: gave us exactly that in season nine, episode one. Scrubs
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: is synonymous with JD, which is anonymous with Zach Brath
- 1:09:38Speaker 8: and The only thing that season nine left me wanting
- 1:09:42Speaker 8: more of.
- 1:09:43Speaker 7: Was Zach Brath JD and Zach Brath in the same
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: way that Christopher Walkin needed more Cowbo.
- 1:09:53Speaker 8: I believe it even nine of Scrubs to have worked better,
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: it had to have been named something completely different. And
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: the only reason that I am able to forgive Bill
- 1:10:08Speaker 8: Lawrence for Scrubs is that he created ted Lasso. Thank you, guys,
- 1:10:16Speaker 8: Love you guys. This is absolutely amazing. Thank you for
- 1:10:19Speaker 8: letting me talk my shit on season nine. I've been
- 1:10:24Speaker 8: waiting a lifetime to do this.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: What's your name again, name Aaron? Thank you so much.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: Thank you for the very nice words about me and
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: well said. I think she mentioned a couple things we mentioned,
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: although she happened to love the moment when we did
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: an eagle and you know what I think.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: I think this is probably one of the best ideas
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: in a long time. And this is why if Star
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Wars did this, this would be great. People got to
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: air out their fucking you know.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: What I'm saying, grievances, you know what I mean, and
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: not be.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Penalized for it and not judged for it or whatever.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: You know what I mean. A young lady expressed everything
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: she wanted to express. She has a very she's very
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: fond of you, Zach, obviously. So I don't think the
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: show would have worked. I don't think the show would
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: have worked. Regard if you had, if you would have
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: been in All six, I mean thirteen or twelve, I
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: bet you she would have loved it. So I will
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: say this is a great way. As long as you
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: don't hurt nobody's feelings, I'm all for it. I'm sure.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I'm sure there have people that said some shit like
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: and this, I say something about this asshole and.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: Make Does this make you want to go? Do you
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: wish now that you could go on a Star Wars
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: podcast and say the grievances you have about something you
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: don't like in Star Wars?
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Everybody knows my grievances. Fucking fucking Star Wars knows my grievances.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I don't think I'm gonna ever do a Star Wars again.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Because you think you've hurt someone's feelings.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: I might have hurt someone's feelings.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Dave Feloney, do you think that, Davey No way. I've
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: heard just like you say fuck your sound effects machine.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Do you think no definitely feel like whoever was involved
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: with the sequel trilogy might be like, I don't like like,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I don't like Donald Faison anymore.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: You sure they love you. Although when we were at
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: the Pineo, you did give love to Kathleen Kennedy's twin
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: instead of her.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: That may have heard. And I was being fake too
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: when I did it too, And I deserve that also, boy,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: and I was, and I deserve that.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: If you have an identical twin and you're hosting a
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: giant premiere, I'm sure a lot of people are gonna
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: get confused. She should wear a T shirt that says
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: I'm not Kathleen Kennedy.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Yeah, but also I shouldn't have went up to Kathleen
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: Kennedy and or who I thought was Kathleen Kennedy and
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: lied my ass off on how much I enjoyed the
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: movie because I really didn't.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Well, now you're definitely not gonna be all right, Joell,
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: Let's hear the person who loves Season nine, episode one, Dan,
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I'll take it away, got you? Here is here is Samantha?
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: He y'all.
- 1:13:16Speaker 9: My name is Samantha and I'm from North Carolina. Episode
- 1:13:20Speaker 9: one of season nine is my favorite.
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: Because it gives you a sense of normalcy. You have
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: right off the bat, JD walking in doing his inner
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: monologue thing.
- 1:13:31Speaker 9: We have Elliott over here yelling at Med students in
- 1:13:35Speaker 9: our high pitch, cute little voice, cute little pregnant belly Turk, he's.
- 1:13:42Speaker 7: Being a silly old self.
- 1:13:44Speaker 9: We've got doctor Cox with his egotistical, diabolical cutthroat itself
- 1:13:51Speaker 9: telling these med students You're gonna kill somebody, and you
- 1:13:55Speaker 9: still like. And then you got j D and Churk
- 1:13:58Speaker 9: acting like we've not seen each other in what I'm
- 1:14:02Speaker 9: guessing years, but they just carpolled to school together.
- 1:14:07Speaker 7: But they're running to each other.
- 1:14:09Speaker 9: And it's like a flashback in a sense from their
- 1:14:12Speaker 9: honey like or Carla and Turks honeymoon, and I guess
- 1:14:16Speaker 9: Judi and Turks honeymoon.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: We were together.
- 1:14:22Speaker 9: But I also like the med students. You have Lucy,
- 1:14:27Speaker 9: Drew and Cole. They all bring this weird little trio
- 1:14:34Speaker 9: dynamic that you had with Elliott, Turk and JD. And
- 1:14:44Speaker 9: it was kind of like a warming you up to
- 1:14:47Speaker 9: a new thing. Also, like the fact that Joe was
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: brought over. Joe was probably one of my absolute favorites
- 1:14:55Speaker 9: in season eight, like she had this just dark self
- 1:15:02Speaker 9: about her, and I feel like I have a dark side,
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: like dark self, like dark humor, and I love that
- 1:15:10Speaker 9: about her, Like she just cracks these dark jokes to
- 1:15:14Speaker 9: kind of deal with things, and I feel like I
- 1:15:16Speaker 9: do the same thing, so I basically connected with that.
- 1:15:20Speaker 7: So her coming over was a nice adjustment as well.
- 1:15:25Speaker 7: But honestly, my.
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: Favorite part that still actually made everything still feel normal
- 1:15:31Speaker 9: was when doctor Cox took on Drew.
- 1:15:34Speaker 7: As his number one.
- 1:15:36Speaker 9: And of course, you know how JD gets when Doctor
- 1:15:40Speaker 9: Cox takes any interest in anybody else, he gets so jealous.
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: And I absolutely love that shit, because it's either doctor
- 1:15:48Speaker 9: Cox just likes to fuck with him about it or
- 1:15:52Speaker 9: he just well, doctor Cox just knows who's going to
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: be a good doctor and so he takes on that person,
- 1:15:59Speaker 9: and and even j D knows that, but he still
- 1:16:05Speaker 9: gets jealous because he never gets that affection from doctor Cox.
- 1:16:13Speaker 9: I feel like it was just a great transition into
- 1:16:16Speaker 9: season nine, And to be honest, I liked season nine.
- 1:16:19Speaker 7: I'm probably gonna be one of the only ones that do.
- 1:16:23Speaker 9: But I enjoyed the season, and I enjoyed this podcast,
- 1:16:27Speaker 9: and I want to say thank you guys so much
- 1:16:30Speaker 9: for this opportunity. Thank you Joe, Well and Donald and Zach.
- 1:16:34Speaker 9: I love y'all so much. And hey, Daniel nice, I
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: thought she was.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: Gonna skip you down, but you gotta shout.
- 1:16:40Speaker 7: Out wonderful thank you again so much.
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: Very sweet Samantha. Right, thank you Samantha very much, and
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: go ahead, don.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: I You know, I once again think that this is
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: something that a bunch of companies, and especially tentpole shows
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: and movies should do. You should have the opportunity to
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: as long as you don't hurt anybody's feelings, the positive
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: and the negative, what works and what doesn't work, you
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: That achould be an interesting way to review a movie
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: because it's like what Ciskel and Ebert used to do.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: You know, remember that great show where they would like
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: pash it out sometimes because now now things are just
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: rotten tomatoes. I was listening to Samantha, and I'm thinking,
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: like I would love to hear like people do it
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: like I mean a pro and con of the film,
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: Like let me hear the person who loved it and
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: then the person who didn't like it. And there are
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: reasons like as opposed to just like someone's blanket statement.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: That was interesting.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, as long as you don't disrespect anything.
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and be respectful as both of those as both
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: of those women were respectful.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what's up.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Well, No, I did I think in the in the
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: macro when I zoom out, I did not dislike it
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: as much as I thought I was going to.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I will agree with you.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: The leads are clearly charming. I mean, not us, The
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: new leads are clearly charming people. And was written by
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: Bill Lawrence. It was directed by Michael Spiller, who's a
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: wonderful director. And there's it. That is episode one of
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: season nine. Everybody donald is going.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: To be interesting. This is going to be interesting because
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: you know, you get it, I get it. The gripe
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: is what a difference in name makes. You know what
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: I mean by naming it Scrubs, everybody has beef. I
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: really do believe that if it wasn't called Scrubs and
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: it was a spin off of Scrubs and intended to
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: be a spinoff of Scrubs, like if it looked like
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: a spin off book, you know what I mean, it
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: would be way more successful and people would have gravitated
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: towards It was because I laughed, right, I laughed because
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I laughed a couple of times out loud. And there
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: are Scrubs episodes where I didn't laugh at all and
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: you laugh it.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: Did you laugh at stay open for business? In your heart?
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Came dude? I laughed at us. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I laughed at the guy love shit and me knocking
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: dude over.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: I laughed at your face is so funny.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: The determination to hug you. I did not laugh at
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: the prison line, but I laughed at everything else. You
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: You know it's good. One thing I thought as we
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: were listening to these women's opinions was like, this exercise
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: might be informative if and when we do a Scrubs reunion,
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: like to help us not fall in well a bill,
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: but us as well, to not fall into pitfalls. You know,
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: how can we make that something new and fresh and
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: different while still giving the audience something they want, which
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: is seeing everyone and all the characters and where they
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: are these days.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: The other question is do you bring back the people
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: from med school? No? No, but they're all huge stars now,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: all of them. All of them are big stars Sarry Dave.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: We'll see we're gonna introduce We're gonna introduce a couple
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: of other characters.
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: I love that Rob Maschio makes a little cameo with.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Credits.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Rob will definitely be in the in the new incarnation.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I would love to see.
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: He's gonna have to get in shape. I don't think
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: he's got that body currently.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: He looks pretty good in the pictures.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: I'm just saying. I'm just saying that I think Rob
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: would be the first to say, if you want me
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: in the banana hammock, I need to go to the gym.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: No, because the banana hammock is going to be full. No,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: if this it matters right, It's not about it's not
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: about the physique.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: We know that he's we know that, we know that
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: he's got a third leg. We made about a bunch.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Of a story.
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: Should know.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: So Gadder round you here, up, Gadder round you here.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: Up.
- 1:21:06Speaker 10: Screetcha mi ando mm hmm
