- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on a bonus episode of hip Hop Now Podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 1: It is the best recommendations I have for you for
- 0:07Speaker 1: October twenty twenty five, the best, not all of them.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to hip Hop Now, pop Fatness.
- 0:22Speaker 2: If you from the future, you know what to do.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Show as out of my back life, so disrespect the
- 0:29Speaker 1: leg back.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Hip hop is say this day. Let's get right into
- 0:35Speaker 2: the business. What up, y'all?
- 0:37Speaker 1: I am Your's Vegas and this is hip Hop Now Podcast,
- 0:40Speaker 1: a podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up on
- 0:43Speaker 1: all things hip hop, music and culture that happened throughout
- 0:48Speaker 1: the week. This is a special bonus episode and a
- 0:52Speaker 1: regular series that I want to do definitely be consistent
- 0:58Speaker 1: with in the year twenty twenty six. Something I had planned,
- 1:05Speaker 1: couldn't do it because of you know, life and other things.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But I want to be consistent with it because it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: a way for you, the hip hop fan, the music
- 1:14Speaker 1: fans stay locked in so first and foremost big shout
- 1:18Speaker 1: out to those listening in audio form, whether it be
- 1:21Speaker 1: Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcast listening,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and those right here on YouTube hip Hop Now pod
- 1:30Speaker 1: who subscribe to the channel who like the videos. Keep
- 1:34Speaker 1: doing what you're doing. Also, I read the comments, whether
- 1:39Speaker 1: they're good, bad, flattering, whatever, I don't care.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I enjoy the engagement.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You took time out of your life to comment, so
- 1:48Speaker 1: I don't care what it is to be honest. Unless
- 1:51Speaker 1: you're just being disrespectful to people in the comments, then
- 1:54Speaker 1: you got to go. But we don't have that over here,
- 1:57Speaker 1: which is great. So the goal is to get to
- 2:00Speaker 1: twenty five thousand subscribers by the end of twenty twenty five.
- 2:04Speaker 1: We still got some weeks to go. We're right around
- 2:07Speaker 1: twenty one k, so good. So if you like this
- 2:10Speaker 1: kind of content, this conversation about hip hop recommendations for albums,
- 2:17Speaker 1: because you're like, yo, a bunch of albums keep releasing.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I don't know what's good. I don't know what's what.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I don't know who dropped. This is the episode for you.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So let's get right into the business. October twenty twenty
- 2:31Speaker 1: five was similar to.
- 2:35Speaker 2: July.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I think it was July, No August, my bad August
- 2:40Speaker 1: of twenty twenty five because a lot of albums dropped,
- 2:45Speaker 1: a lot of albums dropped.
- 2:47Speaker 2: A lot of albums dropped on.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Halloween alone, that doesn't make them all good. So if
- 2:54Speaker 1: you would like to know what I thought about the
- 2:56Speaker 1: other months, I made one full video that just goes
- 3:00Speaker 1: over each month and the albums that I was able
- 3:03Speaker 1: to listen to that I thought were the standouts of
- 3:07Speaker 1: the month. So here are the standouts for October twenty
- 3:11Speaker 1: twenty five. First up, a complete obvious as far as
- 3:16Speaker 1: one of the best albums released in October, Mob Deep's
- 3:20Speaker 1: infinite and like more than we could have asked for
- 3:24Speaker 1: as Mob Deep fans that liked it right, those that
- 3:27Speaker 1: liked it everything from Prodigies versus feeling like he was
- 3:34Speaker 1: there to record this entire album with Havoc and Alchemists,
- 3:40Speaker 1: to the nods of notification not notification but well, I
- 3:45Speaker 1: guess for some that you know Prodigy is no longer
- 3:48Speaker 1: with us, but it felt less like a reminder that
- 3:54Speaker 1: he wasn't here and more like it was a nice
- 3:59Speaker 1: touch kind of thing, like see you on the other side.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It just it just felt like, oh.
- 4:07Speaker 1: It's okay, you know he's no longer here, sad and
- 4:10Speaker 1: all that good stuff. But at the end of the day,
- 4:14Speaker 1: this is why we listen to mob Deep throughout the years.
- 4:17Speaker 1: This is why we love the Prodigy, and this album
- 4:21Speaker 1: Infinite doesn't dwell on that either. It's straight up Mob Deep,
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, the way you know them, the way you
- 4:27Speaker 1: love them, like Big Noise is on the album.
- 4:30Speaker 2: All that stuff.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So now's of course great album, hardcore hip hop at
- 4:36Speaker 1: its finest, and a great sind off because I assume
- 4:40Speaker 1: this is the last Mob Deep album where ever get
- 4:45Speaker 1: a perfect send off for one of hip hop's legendary groups.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Also a dope record that was released Hip Boyant Alchemists
- 4:56Speaker 1: Goldfish Now, Hip Hooy and Alchemy had been teasing these
- 5:01Speaker 1: types of collaborations for the last few years. Right when
- 5:07Speaker 1: they did that one joint. Damn, I can't remember the
- 5:09Speaker 1: name of the song now slipping into Darkness right where
- 5:15Speaker 1: they're both they both had beats is a beat switch up,
- 5:19Speaker 1: but hit Man's rapping a hit man, hit Boy's rapping
- 5:22Speaker 1: over Alchemists beat, and Alchemist is rapping over Hip Boy beat.
- 5:26Speaker 1: And I was like, this is dope because the first
- 5:28Speaker 1: of all the beats they had were dope in that song.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And then.
- 5:33Speaker 1: They're not like super bar Kings or nothing like that, Like,
- 5:36Speaker 1: so you're not going to be like yo, what Alchemists
- 5:39Speaker 1: said was right, like, you know, you may have a
- 5:43Speaker 1: few moments like that, but that's not why you come
- 5:46Speaker 1: to listen to these guys. And I feel like with
- 5:49Speaker 1: the album Goldfish and that EP they released, I believe
- 5:54Speaker 1: like last year or so, which was really dope but
- 5:56Speaker 1: short because it was a real EP, right like for
- 6:01Speaker 1: I feel like this album carries on the tradition of
- 6:04Speaker 1: their collaboration and again as MC's disserviceable, I think of
- 6:11Speaker 1: their types of raps being the same reasons why mainly
- 6:15Speaker 1: Alchemists in this case, same reasons why you know people
- 6:18Speaker 1: like a Boldie James or or even a Rock Marcy. Right,
- 6:23Speaker 1: it's the flow. I'm not trying to say he better
- 6:25Speaker 1: than Rock Marcy. I'm just saying it's the flow. Alchemist's
- 6:29Speaker 1: flow reminds me a lot of Rock Marciana's flow.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And and hit Boy.
- 6:35Speaker 1: You know, he says things that you know you could
- 6:38Speaker 1: either relate to or you don't, but all of it
- 6:41Speaker 1: together just sounds cool, interesting to an extent, and I thought,
- 6:47Speaker 1: you know, it's I was listening to it. I felt like,
- 6:51Speaker 1: if I'm listening to an album more than I have to,
- 6:56Speaker 1: it must be good, right. I'm not forcing myself to
- 6:59Speaker 1: listen to this album. I was like, Yo, this album's cool.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I like it. It's cool.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So they had it another album, Ruben Vincent and Ninth
- 7:09Speaker 1: Wander Welcome Home. This album's great. From the first time
- 7:17Speaker 1: hearing the Albi Shore flip on what I think was
- 7:21Speaker 1: their lead single, I think it's called Go Get It,
- 7:26Speaker 1: to hearing another track and another track, and then finally
- 7:29Speaker 1: the album drops and I'm like I had to shout
- 7:32Speaker 1: out to I had to text kids the album and say, y'all,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you need to check this out because this is the
- 7:40Speaker 1: type of album, types of albums we miss, all the
- 7:46Speaker 1: types of albums we praise other bigger artists like Kendrick
- 7:50Speaker 1: Ford and stuff like that, because albums became at one point,
- 7:55Speaker 1: albums became about a bunch of hit singles, or at
- 7:59Speaker 1: least trying to make a bunch of hit singles. And
- 8:01Speaker 1: there's some albums that are great for that, you know,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and that's the purpose, and it doesn't have to be
- 8:07Speaker 1: any other way if it works. But then there are
- 8:10Speaker 1: those albums that feel like experiences or journeys or introduction
- 8:15Speaker 1: to an artist in this case for me, that tells
- 8:20Speaker 1: you what you need to know. About them and really
- 8:25Speaker 1: not being able to predict what you're going to hear
- 8:28Speaker 1: from ninth from Ruben Vincent, and by the end it
- 8:32Speaker 1: just felt like, Yo, this is a well put together
- 8:35Speaker 1: album with some dope beats, dope beats, thoughtful rhymes. Again,
- 8:42Speaker 1: everything's not a bar fest. Everybody's not trying to be
- 8:46Speaker 1: the greatest spider ever. Some people are artists, right, They
- 8:51Speaker 1: write with their pen. They could probably do the freestyle
- 8:55Speaker 1: and give you all those bars too, but they're a
- 8:58Speaker 1: bigger artist than just that. And there's no issues with
- 9:03Speaker 1: being a bar king versus somebody who can create a
- 9:05Speaker 1: great album. But this Welcome Home album, I had no
- 9:09Speaker 1: expectations and I didn't even know what it was about,
- 9:12Speaker 1: to be honest. And even though I'm not even from
- 9:16Speaker 1: these parts, you know, like from North Carolina and all that,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I assume Ruben Vincent is from North Carolina. I think, yeah,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I believe he says so that it was relatable, the
- 9:28Speaker 1: welcome home part, whether you coming home from college, the military, prison,
- 9:36Speaker 1: being away just because you went away. There's something about
- 9:41Speaker 1: that welcome home vibe that I feel like they captured
- 9:47Speaker 1: in this album. With the skits, which are small, but
- 9:52Speaker 1: they work within the confines of the songs and the
- 9:55Speaker 1: album concept. But great album, honest to me, one of
- 10:01Speaker 1: the best of the year. We almost over, so you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: if I said that is a good chance it'll still
- 10:08Speaker 1: be there by the end of this year. So we'll
- 10:10Speaker 1: see also released Chik Looch Gorilla Ween eight or seven.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Let's look real quick, because.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I did.
- 10:24Speaker 1: First of all, I didn't know there was that many.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Obviously it's up on the screen because you know, it's
- 10:31Speaker 1: that's how the future works. You you find out later
- 10:34Speaker 1: and then you just place it in Gorilla Weens seven.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I said eight, But I'm in the future. But I
- 10:42Speaker 1: can tell you this right now. I might have heard
- 10:44Speaker 1: only one of these joints previously. Not that I don't
- 10:48Speaker 1: like Sheik Louch as a rapper. I think he's criminally
- 10:54Speaker 1: slept on in the Locks. But Locks fans know, we know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: they all can spit. I don't know if you've heard
- 11:02Speaker 1: all the Gorilla Weens from I really hate the name.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I ain't gonna lie uh from Sheikh Looch. Please put
- 11:11Speaker 1: your critique of this album versus or this project versus
- 11:16Speaker 1: the other entries in the series, because I don't really
- 11:19Speaker 1: have a point of reference to say it's the best,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but I can tell you this much, it's one of
- 11:24Speaker 1: the best of October because.
- 11:30Speaker 2: She rap.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Obviously a lot of the reasons why you like Griselda
- 11:36Speaker 1: and all that that that was the lots before them.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Before Griselda, it was the Lox. So Griselda is responsible
- 11:44Speaker 1: for bringing boom Back back to the forefronts. But they
- 11:49Speaker 1: are not the fatherest of it. Obviously it needed all
- 11:51Speaker 1: the locks in a lot of ways.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But.
- 11:54Speaker 1: They're more They're more related to the locks than you
- 11:58Speaker 1: would think regards to the you know, the three man
- 12:01Speaker 1: crew type situation. But she gluch on this album. You know, the.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Rhms are there.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It's hardcore raps and I love his beat selection. I mean,
- 12:14Speaker 1: I think for some rappers that could be a difference maker.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Some guy like like, for example, Lloyd Banks. He released
- 12:23Speaker 1: another entry into his Halloween Havocs series and I ain't
- 12:27Speaker 1: gonna lie, I really don't like it. I like his
- 12:29Speaker 1: album that he released earlier this year more than that.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And it's not because he fell off or he can't rap.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I just feel like when Lloyd Banks has really dope beats,
- 12:43Speaker 1: not just just boom Back beats that you could get into,
- 12:46Speaker 1: but I mean it has to be like some really
- 12:48Speaker 1: dope production that's more vibrant than.
- 12:53Speaker 2: He comes across.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I think that's when he's at his best, and I
- 12:59Speaker 1: feel like chic looch he kind of has that energy.
- 13:03Speaker 1: He's not monotone, so when he has great production, it's
- 13:08Speaker 1: even better, you know what I'm saying. And not to
- 13:11Speaker 1: compare the two, but you know, one's in my Best
- 13:13Speaker 1: of October and one isn't. And they both got Halloween themes.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So there you have it, Halloween, you have it.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Three. I think that's my favorite. I'm gona line two more.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Mick Jenkins and Email and Murder of Crows. This was
- 13:31Speaker 1: an album that I didn't listen to when it dropped.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Shout out to Dad End and Hip Hop. I think
- 13:37Speaker 1: they did their best of the month.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I guess. I think I forget what video was, but
- 13:44Speaker 2: they mentioned it.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I had listened to Mick Jenkins projects in the past,
- 13:50Speaker 1: didn't really get a chance to get to this one.
- 13:52Speaker 1: But because of what was how it was talked about,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I was like, yo, I should probably least put an
- 13:58Speaker 1: air to it. And it's a really good album. It's
- 14:02Speaker 1: a really good album. Mick Jenkins is not gonna cheat
- 14:06Speaker 1: you if you need more than the usual rapper rhetoric.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Right when it comes to me as a fan, trust me,
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm not choosing side. You look at my catalog of music.
- 14:21Speaker 1: There's gonna be songs you like, and then there's gonna
- 14:24Speaker 1: be songs this person may like and you made dislike
- 14:28Speaker 1: and that person made dislike because I'm not listening and
- 14:32Speaker 1: liking everything obviously, not if I could say I didn't
- 14:35Speaker 1: really care for the Slick Rick project, I love slick Rack,
- 14:39Speaker 1: but I love variety and hip hop, and I love
- 14:43Speaker 1: artists that can be more than just the typical rapper.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:49Speaker 1: They rap with substance. They talk about things that happen
- 14:54Speaker 1: to all of us every day in our lives, that
- 14:56Speaker 1: we experience that most rappers never to about. I just
- 15:02Speaker 1: did a review on that Tupac book, talked a little
- 15:05Speaker 1: bit about Brenda's Got a Baby. And one of the
- 15:08Speaker 1: reasons why Tupac captivated me as a fan with that
- 15:13Speaker 1: video and that song was because that's not like a
- 15:18Speaker 1: new story, especially for back then. It just wasn't a
- 15:23Speaker 1: new type of story. But the fact that a rapper
- 15:26Speaker 1: hadn't at least on a mainstream level, because I don't
- 15:30Speaker 1: know about somebody from around your way who had a
- 15:33Speaker 1: similar song before Tupac. We don't know him, fan, we
- 15:36Speaker 1: don't know him. Okay, congrats to him, but we don't
- 15:40Speaker 1: know him. But on a mainstream level, Tupac did that,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and it was one of those things where I was like, Wow,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I didn't even think rappers could rap about this type
- 15:52Speaker 1: of stuff. It just never dawned on me, and Tupac
- 15:55Speaker 1: did it masterfully. So I feel the same way when
- 15:58Speaker 1: it comes to Mick Jenkins and the album, not that
- 16:01Speaker 1: everything is that deep, but if you if you're familiar
- 16:06Speaker 1: with his music, it's going to be more than Braggadocia's raps.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yo check out my bars or crime Stories, which are
- 16:17Speaker 1: more so par for the course for most rappers today.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And for a while, like let's not pretend it's Nick
- 16:25Speaker 1: and the last one originally wasn't going to be on
- 16:30Speaker 1: this list, but I listen, I listen again, that I
- 16:36Speaker 1: listen again, And even though I feel like Hills Have
- 16:40Speaker 1: Eyes Too is the best in the series, Hills Have
- 16:46Speaker 1: Eyes three is not that bad, I'd say for twenty
- 16:53Speaker 1: twenty five. When it comes to Westside Gun, who has released.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I believe I think he's released four or five projects,
- 17:05Speaker 1: maybe closer to four. He'lls Have Eyes two and three
- 17:12Speaker 1: and twelve are the best, and twelve I have in
- 17:17Speaker 1: my best of the year. He'lls Have Eyes two. It's
- 17:22Speaker 1: almost like I'm feeling some kind of way like I
- 17:25Speaker 1: need to put it in the in my top ten
- 17:28Speaker 1: or top fifteen or whatever. But he'lls Have Eyes three,
- 17:32Speaker 1: I think continues the momentum of the second entry. It's
- 17:37Speaker 1: not as good, but at least that momentum is there,
- 17:41Speaker 1: And why say is not as good as just because
- 17:44Speaker 1: it's it reminds me it's closer to Hells Have Eyes one,
- 17:48Speaker 1: which was extremely short. This project is a little bit
- 17:54Speaker 1: longer than that. It features like Benning, a bunch of
- 17:58Speaker 1: I was wanna say, banc Benny the Butcher's on there,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and you know it stole God is there?
- 18:05Speaker 2: Of course.
- 18:08Speaker 1: It's both the James there. I don't I don't know,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I don't think so. But in general, Rome Streets is there.
- 18:14Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking of. It's a dope project.
- 18:18Speaker 1: The only the only thing is and obviously I recommended
- 18:22Speaker 1: if you liked Westside Gun and if you liked the
- 18:25Speaker 1: projects he's released this year. This is another one you
- 18:27Speaker 1: would enjoy. But the only reason why like some of
- 18:33Speaker 1: these albums will not make my best of the year
- 18:36Speaker 1: is because there's a lot of albums to compete, and
- 18:42Speaker 1: it was a lot released in October that's not on
- 18:45Speaker 1: my recommendations from some of my favorite artists. Does it
- 18:50Speaker 1: mean I'm not listening, No, it just means that I
- 18:55Speaker 1: didn't feel like amongst the ones that I really liked,
- 18:59Speaker 1: those PRIs meant the standard for me. What were some
- 19:04Speaker 1: of the best albums of October twenty twenty five for
- 19:07Speaker 1: you leave them down in the comments. I definitely check comments,
- 19:12Speaker 1: especially especially if you know of an album, even just
- 19:18Speaker 1: through the year, an album that you're like, Yo, I
- 19:21Speaker 1: think you need to check this one out because I
- 19:23Speaker 1: think it's one of the best of the year. Chances
- 19:26Speaker 1: are maybe I didn't even hear it, you know what
- 19:28Speaker 1: I'm saying, And especially if I see a reoccurring theme
- 19:32Speaker 1: of a specific album that it seems like everybody heard
- 19:38Speaker 1: and likes, I'll go check it out because I'm not
- 19:42Speaker 1: one of those guys who who needs to be prepped.
- 19:45Speaker 1: If something is dope and enough people are saying it's dope.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I'm going to go see why. So there you have it.
