- 1:26Speaker 2: storytelling insiders here for this league joining us in just
- 1:30Speaker 2: a bit on trade deadline possibilities, plus should they be
- 1:34Speaker 2: suiting up or not? A couple of names to be
- 1:36Speaker 2: on the lookout for here on the Saint Louis Blues
- 1:39Speaker 2: sign David Panyota, and our conversation once more heard on
- 1:43Speaker 2: Cracking Weekly last night coming up in just a bit,
- 1:46Speaker 2: Everett fits you, al Kiniski and myself by the way
- 1:49Speaker 2: for you each and every week on kjar by the
- 1:53Speaker 2: way find that podcast it via the crack and Audio
- 1:55Speaker 2: Network and the iHeartRadio app as well as far as
- 1:59Speaker 2: two nights ago. It was right down to the wire
- 2:01Speaker 2: where the Kracking didn't take a single penalty until the
- 2:06Speaker 2: final two minutes of regulation and then it was hold
- 2:09Speaker 2: your breath time. As Carolina pulled their goaltender Frederick Anderson
- 2:12Speaker 2: to make it a six on forest gaining situation and
- 2:16Speaker 2: the crack and penalty kill with Joy, the Cord forced
- 2:19Speaker 2: into a position to bend but not break.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Who won Seattle up to the line Costas pair down
- 2:25Speaker 3: the slot. That shot deflecting high over the goal, Jarvis off.
- 2:29Speaker 4: The back of the net.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Ten seconds left here in Seattle.
- 2:31Speaker 5: This is a ho to the high slot.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Elers back to La ho suits that'll say a line
- 2:36Speaker 3: three seconds to.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Go, ha ho gocern. So it's a card a thirty five.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Saved dandy here at home, it's a two long Seattle
- 2:56Speaker 3: track and win.
- 2:57Speaker 2: The homestand opening victory over the Canucks last lat weekend
- 3:00Speaker 2: big because the Kraken washed away a couple of avoidable
- 3:04Speaker 2: back to back losses against Dallas and Saint Louis. But
- 3:07Speaker 2: then Monday night, as they say, a big measuring to
- 3:10Speaker 2: kind of game, and while the Krakens certainly were busy
- 3:12Speaker 2: turning away shot attempt after shot attempt from Carolina, they
- 3:16Speaker 2: kept much to the outside. Joey to Cord also big
- 3:20Speaker 2: in his efforts from that game, with a Kraken one
- 3:22Speaker 2: two to one over Carolina and the cord turning in
- 3:25Speaker 2: thirty five saves on thirty six shots plus withstanding the
- 3:29Speaker 2: final push from Carolina in the dying seconds to take
- 3:33Speaker 2: first Star of the Game honors. Ben Myers had the
- 3:36Speaker 2: game winning goals scored at a forty eight a period
- 3:39Speaker 2: two jamming at loose puck away at the glove side
- 3:42Speaker 2: of Frederick Anderson back in period two, all part of
- 3:45Speaker 2: the night where the Kraken out hit Carolina thirty one
- 3:49Speaker 2: to thirteen lock shots. Kraken had a lopsided edge at
- 3:53Speaker 2: twenty three to seven, and Myers had more reaction after
- 3:57Speaker 2: the win with the media on Monday night.
- 4:00Speaker 6: I think our skating was huge tonight. We didn't give
- 4:02Speaker 6: him much time when they had the puck, and also
- 4:04Speaker 6: we were just pushing it up the ice pretty quick,
- 4:06Speaker 6: and I think he put some pressure on them.
- 4:10Speaker 7: The way that game played out, I mean, it's obviously
- 4:12Speaker 7: they tilt the ice quite a bit there at the end.
- 4:14Speaker 7: I mean, what's the conversation like on the bench or
- 4:16Speaker 7: in the locker room going to the third Yeah, we were.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Just sticking to the same game, you know. I thought
- 4:21Speaker 6: we had plenty of chances even in the third period,
- 4:23Speaker 6: and you know, we're we're trying to keep the pressure
- 4:25Speaker 6: on him, so you know, definitely not trying to sit
- 4:27Speaker 6: back in that situation.
- 4:29Speaker 5: I'm your goal.
- 4:30Speaker 7: Mllanson doesn't get credit for a point there, but he
- 4:32Speaker 7: kind of starts that play. I guess, how did you
- 4:34Speaker 7: see it all kind of playing out there?
- 4:35Speaker 6: Yeah, just made made a great play on the wall,
- 4:38Speaker 6: got it to Lars in the middle, just moved it
- 4:41Speaker 6: quick to me, gave it to Freddy and then just
- 4:43Speaker 6: drove the net and you know, was able to put
- 4:45Speaker 6: it home after a great pass from Freddy too. So
- 4:48Speaker 6: how much fun is Mellie to play that? Yeah, it's great,
- 4:51Speaker 6: you know, just a really consistent competitor. You know, I
- 4:54Speaker 6: think that's the big thing is you know, we all
- 4:56Speaker 6: know what he's going to bring night in a night out,
- 4:58Speaker 6: and you know, it's nice to have that physical edge jump.
- 5:00Speaker 6: You know, it brings a lot to our team.
- 5:02Speaker 1: What did you think of Jamie laxiax game too?
- 5:04Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 5:04Speaker 6: It was great. You know he was he was banging bodies,
- 5:08Speaker 6: you know, from the first period there. So it's pretty
- 5:10Speaker 6: cool to see. And you know he's been doing that
- 5:12Speaker 6: all year and.
- 5:13Speaker 4: For a team like Carolina likes to shoot and shoot
- 5:15Speaker 4: and shoot some more, and then the fire drill at
- 5:17Speaker 4: the end they're trying to kill off the penalty. What
- 5:19Speaker 4: was that kind of like playing against them and then
- 5:21Speaker 4: knowing they were going to keep firing at the end.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Yeah, they're just a good hockey team, and you know,
- 5:25Speaker 6: I thought we we just uh stuck to our structure
- 5:28Speaker 6: like really well throughout the entire game and especially at
- 5:31Speaker 6: the end there, and obviously had some great goaltending too.
- 5:34Speaker 6: So Yeah, what's.
- 5:36Speaker 8: The challenge in a game like this?
- 5:37Speaker 6: Are against an opponent like that and not kind of
- 5:39Speaker 6: getting like frustrated, like the mental challenge when you're playing.
- 5:42Speaker 3: In a comment like that.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I our coaching staff, you know, brought it up
- 5:45Speaker 6: this morning. You know, they try to frustrate teams. That's
- 5:48Speaker 6: kind of their mo and you know it was talked
- 5:50Speaker 6: about from our staff and we kind of we played
- 5:53Speaker 6: them once already this year and they've been playing like
- 5:55Speaker 6: that for a long time, so you know, most guys
- 5:58Speaker 6: have seen it and played against it.
- 5:59Speaker 7: So as much as they're able to tilt the ice,
- 6:02Speaker 7: is it kind of helpful almost knowing that this is
- 6:04Speaker 7: how the game is going to go, Like they're gonna
- 6:05Speaker 7: get a ton of shot volume. But as long as
- 6:07Speaker 7: you stick to your structure, you're gonna have a chance.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Like does that help going in?
- 6:10Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 6:10Speaker 6: No, yeah, obviously. You know, we're just trying to stick
- 6:14Speaker 6: to our structure and the way they play man on
- 6:16Speaker 6: man and aggressively. We know if we make one or
- 6:19Speaker 6: two plays, you know we're going to get a chance too.
- 6:21Speaker 6: And you know, I thought we had chances of the
- 6:23Speaker 6: entire night too. Yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 2: So where did the Kraken go from here? By Friday
- 6:27Speaker 2: at noon Pacific time for the NHL trade deadline, well,
- 6:31Speaker 2: several reports suggesting the Kraken could be a buyer in
- 6:35Speaker 2: this situation, but how big We cut up with David
- 6:38Speaker 2: Panyota of the Fourth Period NHL Network and Sirius X
- 6:41Speaker 2: and NHL Network Radio discussing those possibilities, plus a couple
- 6:46Speaker 2: of names attached here to this evening's opponent in Saint Louis.
- 6:51Speaker 4: So they can continue to search as much as they want,
- 6:53Speaker 4: they've got to find somebody else to dance with, and
- 6:57Speaker 4: we know that they've explored big names before. I put
- 6:59Speaker 4: Seattle into the category of big fish hunting. If they
- 7:02Speaker 4: can find that big fish at either end of the ice,
- 7:05Speaker 4: preferably upfront. Then I think Jason Botterol and Ron Francis
- 7:09Speaker 4: and company are going to want to pull the trigger
- 7:11Speaker 4: on that. They've been exploring it going back to last
- 7:13Speaker 4: off season, going back to last season and continue to
- 7:16Speaker 4: We've seen them connected to guys like Jordan Cayrou and
- 7:19Speaker 4: of course they tried with respect to our Tammy Panerin
- 7:22Speaker 4: before he was traded to Los Angeles. That just goes
- 7:24Speaker 4: to show you the type of pool that they're fishing
- 7:26Speaker 4: in and that's what they would like to do. There
- 7:28Speaker 4: have been some teams that have poked around on some
- 7:30Speaker 4: of their pending unrestricted free agents everything, and every indication
- 7:33Speaker 4: that I've been given is that they want to hold
- 7:35Speaker 4: on to their guys. They'll talk after the trade deadline
- 7:38Speaker 4: and resume contract discussions with a lot of those players.
- 7:41Speaker 5: After the deadline.
- 7:43Speaker 4: They want to focus on adding, and again takes two
- 7:46Speaker 4: to pull this off, But from every indication I've been
- 7:49Speaker 4: given from people close to the organization and league wide,
- 7:52Speaker 4: they would like to make a splash, and if they
- 7:54Speaker 4: can't pull it off now, they're going to continue to
- 7:56Speaker 4: look to do that in the summer around draft time.
- 7:58Speaker 4: But that's the priority for this club right now, make
- 8:00Speaker 4: a big splash. See if you can add a top six,
- 8:02Speaker 4: preferably a first line type of player.
- 8:05Speaker 5: And it wouldn't shock me if they can actually do
- 8:07Speaker 5: that between now and the deadline.
- 8:09Speaker 8: David, you know a lot of a lot of times
- 8:11Speaker 8: we talk to fans and the question we always get
- 8:14Speaker 8: asked is are the crack I'm going to make it?
- 8:15Speaker 8: Make a move? But are they going to make it?
- 8:17Speaker 8: And you know we all know on this call that
- 8:20Speaker 8: it takes more than just answering that question. You've got
- 8:23Speaker 8: to find a team that's interested in something you have.
- 8:26Speaker 8: You've got to find a GM that you've got a
- 8:28Speaker 8: relationship with, You've got to find a player that wants
- 8:31Speaker 8: to play in Seattle. And so you know, you know
- 8:34Speaker 8: a lot of the names that are floating around out
- 8:36Speaker 8: there that might be candidates to be moved. Who do
- 8:39Speaker 8: you think are you know a couple of the favorites
- 8:42Speaker 8: that might be good fits in Seattle.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Well, I think they're going to continue if they haven't already,
- 8:48Speaker 4: And I suspect they have to circle back on guys
- 8:51Speaker 4: like Cairo, a player like Robert Thomas, his teammate in
- 8:55Speaker 4: Saint Louis. Again, those caliber of players that that are available,
- 9:00Speaker 4: that are out there. There are others that are you know,
- 9:03Speaker 4: you have Nozen Kadri and Vinnie Trochek and Braden Shen
- 9:07Speaker 4: and Ryan O'Reilly and so on that kind of you know,
- 9:10Speaker 4: have generated a ton of interesting league why but it
- 9:12Speaker 4: seems like the priority is top tier star to add
- 9:15Speaker 4: to this to add to this lineup. Easier said than done,
- 9:19Speaker 4: clearly because they would have done it already. But you know,
- 9:22Speaker 4: Bottlerel and everybody are trying to find that one piece
- 9:25Speaker 4: that they can add to to the group. And it's
- 9:27Speaker 4: not exclusive to a center or a winger. If it
- 9:31Speaker 4: is a winger, great they can add that to the
- 9:32Speaker 4: first line and immediately implement that. But that's what they've
- 9:35Speaker 4: been that's what they've been trying to do. And it
- 9:37Speaker 4: seems like they might be a little more geared to
- 9:38Speaker 4: the wing, but again we'll see where that goes. The
- 9:41Speaker 4: other name that I'm a little bit curious about is
- 9:43Speaker 4: Elias Petterson. Not too far away in Vancouver. There are
- 9:46Speaker 4: teams that have interest in him. The Canucks have made
- 9:49Speaker 4: it clear they don't want to retain on that contract.
- 9:51Speaker 4: He's got eleven point six million dollars aav and they
- 9:55Speaker 4: are willing to listen. And a team like Seattle with
- 9:58Speaker 4: a lot of cap space sitting around twenty twenty one
- 10:00Speaker 4: million right now, they have the financial flexibility to do it.
- 10:04Speaker 4: You know, whether they have the assets, the pieces in
- 10:06Speaker 4: the drive to pull that off, we you know, obviously
- 10:09Speaker 4: we'll have to wait and see. But again, these are
- 10:11Speaker 4: you know, top tier names across the National Hockey League,
- 10:14Speaker 4: and these are the caliber of players that Seattle is
- 10:17Speaker 4: trying to add over these next few days.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Going back here to Thomas and Jordan Kyro David, as
- 10:23Speaker 2: far as what they're commanding here in the marketplace, what's
- 10:27Speaker 2: the realistic asking price right now? Where you see a
- 10:30Speaker 2: lot of teams, you know, pooning up the best offer
- 10:33Speaker 2: here for.
- 10:33Speaker 5: Them, They're substantial.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Certainly Thomas is higher than that of Cyrus by all indications.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Thomas is the package and the cost that it would take.
- 10:44Speaker 4: You're looking at a top tier prospect, a first round
- 10:47Speaker 4: pick and at least one other asset to bring him
- 10:49Speaker 4: out of Saint Louis, and I think Kyrus is a
- 10:52Speaker 4: little bit less. You're probably looking at a first round
- 10:54Speaker 4: pick in a top prospect. Whereas for Thomas, you've got
- 10:57Speaker 4: to add at least one other piece as part of that. Now,
- 11:01Speaker 4: the Krack can do have a pretty solid base. They've
- 11:04Speaker 4: got some assets that you know, some.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Teams are certainly interested in.
- 11:09Speaker 4: And we've heard, you know, Shane Wright's name floating around.
- 11:12Speaker 4: He's been one carrot that the team seems to be
- 11:15Speaker 4: willing to dangle and and that other teams have expressed
- 11:18Speaker 4: interest in. That might be a centerpiece of a potential
- 11:20Speaker 4: return depending on the type of deal that comes into
- 11:23Speaker 4: play here for either of those guys or somebody else.
- 11:27Speaker 4: But it's going to be hefty, and it's one thing
- 11:29Speaker 4: to take on big dollars because both of those guys
- 11:31Speaker 4: have eight point one twenty five million dollars cap hits. Again,
- 11:35Speaker 4: they have the flexibility to add those caliber players and
- 11:37Speaker 4: those players with high prices, but you've got to give
- 11:41Speaker 4: up a certain package in order to achieve that. And
- 11:44Speaker 4: that's what clearly they seem to be evaluating.
- 11:46Speaker 3: When it comes to these names, the prospects or the
- 11:50Speaker 3: players the Craken could potentially be getting. Does term matter?
- 11:54Speaker 3: I mean, are the Kraken looking for a rental? Are
- 11:57Speaker 3: they looking for someone who has a year or two
- 12:00Speaker 3: three left on their deal that if we're going to
- 12:03Speaker 3: give up, say a Shane, right, we want to have
- 12:06Speaker 3: another piece that we can at least build upon for
- 12:09Speaker 3: the next couple of years and and hopefully re sign
- 12:12Speaker 3: long term.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Yeah, if if we're talking about players of you know,
- 12:16Speaker 4: Shane writes Elk, you're you're looking at somebody with term.
- 12:20Speaker 4: You're looking at somebody who's not just going to help
- 12:22Speaker 4: this team now, not just going to help this team
- 12:24Speaker 4: next season, but for the foreseeable future, presumably a piece
- 12:28Speaker 4: that's going to build with this group and grow, which
- 12:30Speaker 4: I should say with this group as they continue to
- 12:33Speaker 4: build into into legitimate, you know, year after year contenders.
- 12:36Speaker 5: The Panerian thing was a little bit different.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Those caliber players don't come around too often, and given
- 12:42Speaker 4: the age a two year, three year extension kind of
- 12:44Speaker 4: tied to it made sense. But for some of the
- 12:47Speaker 4: others that are out there, yeah, they're they're primarily looking
- 12:50Speaker 4: for controllable assets that either have full term or are
- 12:54Speaker 4: controllable still of RFA status on the restricted side, so
- 12:57Speaker 4: you can still control their future and their fate moving forward.
- 13:02Speaker 4: So if they do make that type of impact move
- 13:04Speaker 4: by moving out some of their key young pieces, or
- 13:07Speaker 4: prospects slash draft picks. They want to make sure that
- 13:09Speaker 4: they're bringing in somebody who's going to work withness team
- 13:12Speaker 4: in the longevity of that career is going to build
- 13:14Speaker 4: with the Cracking.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Thank you to David Panyota of the Fourth Period in
- 13:18Speaker 2: NHL Network and Sirius Sex and NHL Network Radio for
- 13:21Speaker 2: joining us as well on Cracking Weekly. More of that conversation,
- 13:25Speaker 2: by the way, in full heard at the Crack and
- 13:28Speaker 2: Audio Network podcasted via the iHeartRadio app. Well, this evening
- 13:32Speaker 2: could get very interesting depending upon who the Blues suit
- 13:37Speaker 2: or don't suit up here for this game. Several names
- 13:40Speaker 2: could be on the trade block for a Blues team
- 13:42Speaker 2: well out of the playoff mix right now, coming in
- 13:45Speaker 2: with a record of twenty two, twenty nine and nine
- 13:48Speaker 2: point total at fifty three, and also ranking next to
- 13:52Speaker 2: last in the entire Western Conference and the entire National
- 13:56Speaker 2: Hockey League. On top of that, potentially Robert his name
- 14:01Speaker 2: within the mix here for Trey candidates Jordan Cayrou along
- 14:04Speaker 2: with Colton Pereco, Justin Falk, and goaltender Jordan Bennington. So
- 14:09Speaker 2: could there be a turnover here for the Blues and
- 14:12Speaker 2: their direction on their roster, maybe matter retirement before we
- 14:15Speaker 2: find out how many veterans they want to move on from. Nonetheless,
- 14:19Speaker 2: they have to play this game coming up, and the
- 14:21Speaker 2: Kraken looking to take two out of three against Saint
- 14:24Speaker 2: Louis in this head to head series. Last time out
- 14:27Speaker 2: not so pleasant on the Kraken side. They fell five
- 14:30Speaker 2: to one last Thursday on a hat trick by Dalton
- 14:33Speaker 2: Hall Theway, which was the end of back to back
- 14:35Speaker 2: games on the road Saint Louis is three to six
- 14:38Speaker 2: and one. They come off a surprising three to one
- 14:41Speaker 2: victory over the Minnesota Wild. Thomas Logan, Mayhew and Pavel
- 14:45Speaker 2: Bochnavich all had the goals for Saint Louis in that game,
- 14:49Speaker 2: with Joel Hoefer, the former Portland winter Hawk, turning in
- 14:52Speaker 2: a twenty two save effort. By the way, this will
- 14:56Speaker 2: be the first time Saint Louis visits Seattle since last
- 14:59Speaker 2: season on April twelve, with a Kraken aiming for three
- 15:02Speaker 2: wins out of four. Again some blues and still reportedly
- 15:06Speaker 2: on the move here for as David Panota said, big
- 15:09Speaker 2: fish hunting gonna be a lot of fun here to monitor.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Once again, we're on air this evening at six point
- 15:15Speaker 2: thirty face off little past seven o'clock Pacific time. Postgame
- 15:18Speaker 2: coverage up to an hour after the final horn will
- 15:21Speaker 2: be at Tom's Watchbar once again, right across from Climate
- 15:24Speaker 2: Pledge Arena. Talk with you then, for cracking this morning.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I'm Mike Benton.
- 15:28Speaker 1: You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
- 15:31Speaker 1: three kJ r FM
