- 2:30Speaker 4: Want to welcome to the show now, Delegate Dana Ferrell.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Good morning, sir, welcome.
- 2:34Speaker 5: To the show, Good morning day, good to be with you.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Thank you for being here.
- 2:39Speaker 4: So before we get into the reason you're here on
- 2:41Speaker 4: the show, I did want to ask you as a
- 2:43Speaker 4: as a longtime educator. Classes started last week in Knaw County.
- 2:47Speaker 4: They started this morning of Putnham County.
- 2:49Speaker 2: How long were you in the public school system thirty years?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Thirty years? And do you miss it?
- 2:56Speaker 5: I missed the kids yeah, absolutely, Well.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I figured you did.
- 3:01Speaker 4: And I've had opportunity, you know, in a former life
- 3:03Speaker 4: to actually see you in action as you were educating,
- 3:07Speaker 4: educating the young minds.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You did and you did a great job. But it's
- 3:12Speaker 2: a different world.
- 3:12Speaker 4: And I'll just leave it at that, and I know
- 3:14Speaker 4: you saw the changes over the world's the world of
- 3:16Speaker 4: education changed a lot in those thirty years that you
- 3:19Speaker 4: were there.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Oh. Absolutely, Before I asked me all the time, it
- 3:22Speaker 5: said the difference. When I came in, I had classroom rules.
- 3:25Speaker 5: When I left, I had classroom expectations. You had to
- 3:29Speaker 5: sell the kids on what you wanted. You couldn't demand
- 3:32Speaker 5: it any longer.
- 3:34Speaker 4: That's just amazing to me, I mean, how much it changed.
- 3:38Speaker 4: But again that's another show for another time. So late
- 3:42Speaker 4: Friday night, Delegate a horrific accident after sixty four to
- 3:45Speaker 4: seventy seven split. Four people were killed. The story posted
- 3:48Speaker 4: about at WCHS network dot com and according to the
- 3:52Speaker 4: police report from Charleston p DA, driver lost control of
- 3:55Speaker 4: a vehicle around ten fifty two or so Friday night,
- 3:58Speaker 4: heading east. The vehicle hit the median wall and then
- 4:01Speaker 4: went over the interstate and onto the Martin Marrie out
- 4:04Speaker 4: of Charleston Yard on Pennsylvania Avenue. All four people, as
- 4:06Speaker 4: I said, were killed. Second crash in that same spot,
- 4:10Speaker 4: pretty much in the same way this week. Other the
- 4:12Speaker 4: other attractor trailer went over last Wednesday morning. People in
- 4:16Speaker 4: that wreck were injured but did survive. Then there was
- 4:18Speaker 4: another accident last Sunday, this one on the Fort Hill Bridge,
- 4:21Speaker 4: and your daughter was a passenger in the vehicle that
- 4:25Speaker 4: crashed there, and you found strong enough to post about
- 4:28Speaker 4: it on social media as far as the dangers on
- 4:30Speaker 4: the highways there, and you're calling for action, what would
- 4:32Speaker 4: you like to see happened, Delegate, Well.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Sure, obviously you know when I woke up Saturday morning
- 4:39Speaker 5: and saw the news on the accident that happened Friday night,
- 4:42Speaker 5: that really touched the nerve with me because it was
- 4:45Speaker 5: the almost exact exact same town that we got the
- 4:48Speaker 5: phone call on my daughter last Sunday night that they'd
- 4:53Speaker 5: been in the accent on the bridge and uh it
- 4:55Speaker 5: had it not been for the steel girder that they
- 4:58Speaker 5: hit you a the barrier, they would have went over
- 5:02Speaker 5: into the river. And so we were that close to
- 5:04Speaker 5: losing her and her boyfriend. So and in that case,
- 5:09Speaker 5: you had no fault of their own and they were
- 5:10Speaker 5: struck by another vehicle, and it just, you know, it
- 5:15Speaker 5: got to the point, you know, thinking that's the third
- 5:18Speaker 5: incident in five days to happen, and we've got lost
- 5:22Speaker 5: of life and critically injured, and it just, you know,
- 5:26Speaker 5: I grew up here in the valley, and you know what,
- 5:30Speaker 5: I was young enough when the system was built, and
- 5:35Speaker 5: you've seen the accidents over time, and I think, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 5: we we go accustomed to it. But I think at
- 5:41Speaker 5: some point we've got to say, hey, you know, this
- 5:44Speaker 5: isn't the same traffic demographics that we had in nineteen
- 5:48Speaker 5: seventy five or so when the interstate system opened, and
- 5:52Speaker 5: maybe we need to review some things and say, hey,
- 5:56Speaker 5: you know, do we need to make some changes here.
- 5:58Speaker 2: What kind of changes are you so do you have
- 6:00Speaker 2: in mind?
- 6:02Speaker 5: Well, yeah, Dave, I think, yeah, I think you got
- 6:05Speaker 5: to look at this. And of course it comes back
- 6:07Speaker 5: to my sports uh uh familiarity that you look at
- 6:12Speaker 5: this both an offensive and a defensive strategy here. And
- 6:15Speaker 5: and when I say, hey, you know it's time to
- 6:17Speaker 5: call review, I don't want to point the fingers at anybody.
- 6:19Speaker 5: This isn't on dot Secretary run Ball inherited all these
- 6:23Speaker 5: situations as to come in and uh, it's just you know,
- 6:27Speaker 5: we want to work with them to try to find
- 6:29Speaker 5: out what's going on. Let's let's look at the numbers,
- 6:33Speaker 5: let's look at possible solutions and see how we can
- 6:35Speaker 5: implement them. So I want to take both an offensive
- 6:38Speaker 5: and a defensive strategy. Offensively, what can we do immediately
- 6:43Speaker 5: to help drivers realize that the seriousness of that stretch
- 6:48Speaker 5: of highway? Slow down, pay attention more, and you know,
- 6:53Speaker 5: we're as I'm sure you've seen, does it's comments saying
- 6:58Speaker 5: use people just need to slow down. Well, it's easy
- 7:00Speaker 5: enough to say, but I don't know anybody that hasn't
- 7:04Speaker 5: exceeded the speed limit through that area late come in
- 7:08Speaker 5: there for and you know, and even if somebody was
- 7:12Speaker 5: being you know, even if the young boys that were
- 7:14Speaker 5: killed the other night, we're exceeding speed limit, did they
- 7:17Speaker 5: deserve what happened? You know? Because of that, I think
- 7:22Speaker 5: it's an easy answer no. And and so we look
- 7:25Speaker 5: at you know, uh, even winners of situation or success
- 7:28Speaker 5: or speed, if somebody hits that barrier, you know, is
- 7:33Speaker 5: there enough there to prevent them from going over the
- 7:37Speaker 5: over the top of the barrier, so you know when
- 7:41Speaker 5: we look at them. And since I raised the questions,
- 7:44Speaker 5: it's just in the last twenty four to forty eight hours,
- 7:47Speaker 5: I've got multiple input from former engineers, current engineers, people
- 7:53Speaker 5: that work in highways and things that you know much
- 7:56Speaker 5: and pretty insightful things that I think we can work with. So,
- 8:01Speaker 5: as I mentioned in my original post, I think offensively,
- 8:03Speaker 5: we we say, hey, we have flashing lights at the
- 8:07Speaker 5: base of the UH hill there at mink Shouls. You
- 8:11Speaker 5: come down seventy nine to one. You know that sharp
- 8:13Speaker 5: curve as you do on the turnpike on UH several spots,
- 8:18Speaker 5: you know, why not put rumble strips as you approach
- 8:22Speaker 5: the bridge and that turn and some things to say,
- 8:24Speaker 5: hey you pay attention, slow down here and take this
- 8:29Speaker 5: easiest as a serious stretch of highway. It is answer
- 8:31Speaker 5: you think about it?
- 8:32Speaker 2: No, go ahead, I'm doing mean up you go ahead?
- 8:34Speaker 5: No, I interest think now, you think about it even
- 8:38Speaker 5: without speed being a factor when you're coming through there,
- 8:41Speaker 5: at least you know, and I come down from the
- 8:42Speaker 5: north and if I'm going out the south ridge or
- 8:45Speaker 5: going west through that Fort Hill Bridge area, You've got
- 8:50Speaker 5: two different entrance ramps. You got an exit ramp where
- 8:53Speaker 5: a ton of traffics jumping off onto oak Wood, three
- 8:56Speaker 5: or four lanes, you're you're forced over into the far
- 8:59Speaker 5: lane if you're coming from the north or from the
- 9:02Speaker 5: south going that way. And then if you're trying to
- 9:05Speaker 5: get off of oak Wood, you've got to cross four
- 9:07Speaker 5: lanes of traffic. I mean it's you better have your
- 9:11Speaker 5: head on a swivel, even in the best of circumstances.
- 9:16Speaker 5: On the other side. Yeah, and then you get on
- 9:18Speaker 5: the other side, you're trying to get on from Oakwood,
- 9:20Speaker 5: and you've got the length and maybe an aircraft carrier
- 9:22Speaker 5: to try to get over two lanes, you know, to
- 9:26Speaker 5: keep moving forward as people are trying to exit off
- 9:28Speaker 5: one to Virginia Street. So just the design, I think
- 9:32Speaker 5: a lot of people said, hey, look, you know, back
- 9:35Speaker 5: in nineteen sixty seventy, when the design phase was going on,
- 9:39Speaker 5: maybe that made sense. But if you look at the
- 9:44Speaker 5: amount more traffic on the roads now than there were
- 9:47Speaker 5: even in nineteen seventy or seventy five, We did some
- 9:51Speaker 5: numbers and just some quick research shows there's over one
- 9:53Speaker 5: hundred and seventy million more pickups and SUVs on the
- 9:57Speaker 5: road than they're were it's mainly a sedans. Back then.
- 10:01Speaker 5: There are over four times more semi trucks traveling on
- 10:06Speaker 5: the road then there would have been down So it's
- 10:10Speaker 5: just a different We're in a different phase of traffic
- 10:13Speaker 5: flow and just you know, I think we've got to
- 10:17Speaker 5: think differently, and maybe we did at that point. We
- 10:21Speaker 5: can't go back and reset the highway and widen lanes
- 10:25Speaker 5: or ad lanes, but I think, you know, we can
- 10:29Speaker 5: take some precautions to try to slow traffic down, and
- 10:31Speaker 5: then if it doesn't slow down, then what can we
- 10:33Speaker 5: do as a defensive measure. And that's when we're looking
- 10:36Speaker 5: at barriers. Some people talked about safety cables or nets
- 10:39Speaker 5: and things like that. It's a more long term, it's
- 10:44Speaker 5: a measure on them.
- 10:45Speaker 4: It is interesting because that's something really I hadn't thought about,
- 10:48Speaker 4: and you know, obviously you and some other folks have
- 10:50Speaker 4: done some research research on this, because my first thought
- 10:53Speaker 4: when you set when is that there's a whole lot
- 10:55Speaker 4: less people now in the Charleston area than what there
- 10:59Speaker 4: were back in the days.
- 11:01Speaker 2: However, there's more traffic.
- 11:02Speaker 4: On the road and I have noticed, I mean in
- 11:05Speaker 4: the light I've been I've been traveling to Charleston ever
- 11:07Speaker 4: since I've been driving, even when I lived in Logan,
- 11:11Speaker 4: and there is a whole lot more traffic. There's less
- 11:13Speaker 4: people here, but there are less local people, but there
- 11:16Speaker 4: is a whole lot more traffic on the road. And
- 11:18Speaker 4: you're right, you mentioned a couple of those instances, and
- 11:20Speaker 4: I see it every day. I mean sometimes when once
- 11:24Speaker 4: I hit and I'm driving home in the afternoon and
- 11:27Speaker 4: I'm heading sixty four west, once I get to about mccorkel,
- 11:30Speaker 4: you know, or maybe Montrose or whatever, it's like I
- 11:33Speaker 4: have a sigh of relief because or in the morning
- 11:35Speaker 4: when I get here, because I'm coming westbound and I'm
- 11:38Speaker 4: one of those people that's going across the bridge that
- 11:40Speaker 4: has to go, you know, to come down Virginia Street.
- 11:42Speaker 4: And today, you know, usually people are pretty pretty nice about,
- 11:46Speaker 4: you know, being courteous and you know, one to the other.
- 11:49Speaker 2: But this morning, in.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Particular, I had a particular person that just was not
- 11:54Speaker 4: going to move and I ran out of road basically,
- 11:58Speaker 4: you know, and I don't know.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Manytimes almost had to stuff or you see somebody else
- 12:01Speaker 5: almost have to stop on that bridge trying to merge.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Well, that was me.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Today because I mean, I pretty much I'm almost had to.
- 12:08Speaker 4: And look, you know, I intentionally changed my schedule a
- 12:12Speaker 4: year or so ago and started leaving earlier, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 4: hoping to alleviate some of that because I also living
- 12:17Speaker 4: in an area white to drive through school traffic and
- 12:19Speaker 4: a school drop off. Don't don't get me started on that.
- 12:22Speaker 4: So I started leaving thirty minutes earlier in the morning
- 12:25Speaker 4: just for that purpose. And I don't know, I don't
- 12:28Speaker 4: know that it's done a lot of good. And I
- 12:30Speaker 4: want to be careful here. We're talking with Delegate Data Firm.
- 12:33Speaker 4: I'm gonna be careful. When we talked about the most
- 12:34Speaker 4: recent accident Friday night, lots of speculation about I leave
- 12:37Speaker 4: that up to proper authorities. But as you as you
- 12:40Speaker 4: noted there, there's obviously there's obviously an issue here, and
- 12:45Speaker 4: we don't know the investigation continuing.
- 12:47Speaker 2: So I don't want to speculate anything.
- 12:48Speaker 4: But with the amount of incidents that we have there,
- 12:51Speaker 4: and somebody in one of the posts may have been
- 12:53Speaker 4: on yours said something, well, we just need to, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 4: put up science. People don't pay attention to science data.
- 12:58Speaker 4: You know that I mean, and I'm not saying I'm
- 13:01Speaker 4: not up on my high horse. You know, I got
- 13:03Speaker 4: my first ever speeding ticket about three years ago in
- 13:05Speaker 4: the state of Ohio driving all this time, and I
- 13:07Speaker 4: had never had a speeding ticket about three years ago,
- 13:09Speaker 4: so I obviously ignored it. But I'm just I don't
- 13:12Speaker 4: know what signs is the answer, because people just don't
- 13:14Speaker 4: pay attention to signs.
- 13:16Speaker 5: No, there was you know, there was an old nineteen
- 13:18Speaker 5: seventies song sign sign ye walking up the scenery and
- 13:23Speaker 5: clogging up my mind, And you know, I think that's you.
- 13:27Speaker 5: There's just so much coming at us, and you know,
- 13:30Speaker 5: look at a modern vehicle with touch screens and things
- 13:34Speaker 5: to distract your attention on the inside. It's just a
- 13:37Speaker 5: lot going on to a driver, I think when you
- 13:40Speaker 5: at any given time. So that's why I say, I
- 13:44Speaker 5: think you've really got to enforce the seriousness situation. Hence
- 13:49Speaker 5: the flashing lights or rumble strips, those kinds of things
- 13:54Speaker 5: that say, hey, this isn't just a typical stretch of
- 13:56Speaker 5: highway that you're going through.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Here we're talking with Dell to good Dan Affair World.

- 16:54Speaker 4: Green event. It's Thursday night at the bill No Flight School,
- 16:56Speaker 4: West Virginia International Yeager Airport starts at six. Coach Tony
- 17:00Speaker 4: Gibson will be there at basketball coach Corney Jackson, several
- 17:03Speaker 4: other coaches will be there, also, Athletic director Cherald Harrison
- 17:06Speaker 4: and the voice of the Thundering.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Herd Steve Cotton will be there.
- 17:09Speaker 4: I'll be serving as your MC along with Steve Animal
- 17:11Speaker 4: ninety eight to seven a month of wild of Wonderful
- 17:12Speaker 4: Classic rock. All proceeds benefit the Marshall Big Green. If
- 17:16Speaker 4: you need tickets, check out herdzone dot com or three
- 17:18Speaker 4: four six nine six forty six sixty one. Former Charlesimir
- 17:21Speaker 4: Danny Jones coming up a little bit later on the show,
- 17:23Speaker 4: talking again with the delegate Dan of Ferrell. Let me
- 17:26Speaker 4: read a text here that we got here delegate that says,
- 17:29Speaker 4: one big part of the problem is people are just
- 17:31Speaker 4: very aggressive drivers that refuse to pay attention around them.
- 17:34Speaker 4: For example, coming off Leon Sullivan, a lot of people
- 17:37Speaker 4: don't realize that the center lane don't only go straight,
- 17:40Speaker 4: it turns right as well. People in the far right
- 17:42Speaker 4: lane just try to put themselves over in the left
- 17:44Speaker 4: lane as soon as they turn. A driver trying to
- 17:46Speaker 4: pull that move caused an accident years ago to put
- 17:49Speaker 4: another car into the fence and the post office parking lot.
- 17:52Speaker 4: So I mean, again, we don't want to speculate on
- 17:54Speaker 4: these particular cases, okay, but we have a problem, you
- 17:58Speaker 4: know with aggressive driving, and I and you mentioned distracted driving.
- 18:02Speaker 4: I don't know that legislation changing the highways. Uh uh
- 18:07Speaker 4: you know, science, I don't know that you can do
- 18:09Speaker 4: anything to change.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Behavior like that.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Well, well that's why I said, I think you look
- 18:14Speaker 5: at the both offensive and defensive measures with this, and
- 18:17Speaker 5: offensively we try, you know, we try to get their
- 18:19Speaker 5: attention as the best as what possibly can. But reality
- 18:23Speaker 5: says that you know, we won't We won't stop everybody
- 18:26Speaker 5: that is coming through there. So in the worst of situations, Uh,
- 18:31Speaker 5: if a vehicle does go or hit the barrier, how
- 18:35Speaker 5: can we best try to keep them on the highway
- 18:37Speaker 5: and not go over the edge. That's a defensive approach. Thank,
- 18:41Speaker 5: you know, we got to look at that both ways.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Uh.
- 18:43Speaker 5: I think there's some other things, you know, we can
- 18:44Speaker 5: look at for certain you know, we I've talked with
- 18:47Speaker 5: other members of the UH Joint Committee on Transportation Oversight
- 18:51Speaker 5: in the legislature here and I think this is something
- 18:54Speaker 5: moving into the next set of runs we come up
- 18:56Speaker 5: after Labor Day again, you know, we want to talk
- 18:59Speaker 5: to the Secretary about and see and let's get their viewpoints.
- 19:03Speaker 5: I'm sure they're looking at it even as we speak.
- 19:06Speaker 5: And what can be done within the primers that they have,
- 19:11Speaker 5: What can we do to help them achieve that? What
- 19:15Speaker 5: are other states on This is not the only elevated
- 19:18Speaker 5: highway system through a city in the United States. In fact,
- 19:21Speaker 5: there are hundreds around. So what are other municipalities and
- 19:25Speaker 5: states doing to try to address the issue. We do
- 19:29Speaker 5: know that the nitroustint Albans Bridge, it was just completed.
- 19:33Speaker 5: The barriers on that bridge are the forty two inch
- 19:38Speaker 5: which are the newer height. I think it used to
- 19:40Speaker 5: be at thirty two inches and may still be where
- 19:44Speaker 5: the Fort Hill Bridge is, but the forty two inches
- 19:50Speaker 5: designed to help keep more STEMIs in the archer vehicles.
- 19:53Speaker 5: As I said, there's four times as money on the
- 19:55Speaker 5: road now from going over So those are but you
- 20:00Speaker 5: know those come those were heavier. So can that Can
- 20:04Speaker 5: that superstructure on the bridge and elevated highway through the
- 20:08Speaker 5: city support the extra weight if you put the taller
- 20:11Speaker 5: barriers in there. Uh, that's a question for an engineer.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I can't say here, but it has to be asked.
- 20:19Speaker 5: I think when you know, we want to look at statewide,
- 20:22Speaker 5: not just in Charleston. What are the hot spots? And
- 20:26Speaker 5: you know we need to be constantly looking at addressing
- 20:29Speaker 5: news because you know, we're talking matters of life and
- 20:32Speaker 5: death here with people, and I think we'd be negligent
- 20:35Speaker 5: not to uh consistently look at what could be done better.
- 20:40Speaker 4: We're talking any with Della Gadana Fair. I want to
- 20:42Speaker 4: ask you about a couple other things non related to this.
- 20:44Speaker 4: You're always good enough to, you know, very good to
- 20:46Speaker 4: come on to answer about any questions I have as
- 20:48Speaker 4: an educator as you were, you know, for so many years.
- 20:51Speaker 4: One of the big things that's been in the news
- 20:52Speaker 4: over the last couple of weeks was the delay or
- 20:55Speaker 4: perceived delay, whatever the issue was with the clothing vounchers.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Now you saw as an educator, and I've interviewed several
- 21:02Speaker 4: educators that are also political folks and ask them about
- 21:06Speaker 4: the issues that we had with the clothing vouchers.
- 21:08Speaker 2: What's your take on the whole thing?
- 21:11Speaker 5: Well, I twofold. I have no problem with their games,
- 21:16Speaker 5: just like we're talking about here, constantly looking at the
- 21:18Speaker 5: program and seeing how we can make it better, uh
- 21:20Speaker 5: more efficient, and uh you work, you know, work as
- 21:23Speaker 5: it should. But uh, I did have concern over the
- 21:26Speaker 5: timing of the way things went down this summer. Uh
- 21:31Speaker 5: just I don't think it's the right time to try
- 21:34Speaker 5: to hold up any kind of funds.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Uh.
- 21:36Speaker 5: And if they were short, then you know, we need
- 21:38Speaker 5: to find those funds uh Uh. Trying to leave any
- 21:43Speaker 5: chout in a situation where you know, they were expecting
- 21:46Speaker 5: to get the money to parents work, you know, helped
- 21:48Speaker 5: get to close for the kids go back to school,
- 21:52Speaker 5: and then financially can't do that in the middle of
- 21:54Speaker 5: the game. I don't think that's the time we're trying
- 21:55Speaker 5: to do that. So, you know, once once we get
- 21:59Speaker 5: back in we get back in session, let's take a
- 22:01Speaker 5: close look at it. Let's see how we can make
- 22:03Speaker 5: it better.
- 22:04Speaker 4: It seemed to be that there was widespread concerned about this.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Republicans and you're you know, you're a Republican, but Republicans
- 22:11Speaker 4: and Democrats, everybody seemed to have an issue with whatever
- 22:14Speaker 4: it was that happened, it didn't happen.
- 22:15Speaker 2: And as you said, the timing.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Yeah, because really, you know, this is a non partisan issue.
- 22:20Speaker 5: I don't think look at it Democrat, Republican or anything
- 22:23Speaker 5: like that, or even within the Republican Party. I think, hey,
- 22:27Speaker 5: we I think everybody just wants to do the right thing.
- 22:30Speaker 5: It's just how we're going to do that. I didn't like.
- 22:31Speaker 5: I said, my only concern was the timing of it.
- 22:35Speaker 5: You know, if we're going to start playing around with
- 22:38Speaker 5: the uh distribution of it and how it's done, Uh,
- 22:42Speaker 5: let's work on that during the off season. Uh, not
- 22:45Speaker 5: in the middle of summer when the systems uh, when
- 22:48Speaker 5: the eve of taking place, from the middle of it
- 22:50Speaker 5: taking place.
- 22:51Speaker 4: The governor a couple of a month or so ago,
- 22:54Speaker 4: you know, made the statement that about the whole cash
- 22:57Speaker 4: aspect of it, and that money was being used on
- 23:00Speaker 4: beer and cigarettes and things of that nature.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Where do you agree with that? Do you somewhat agree
- 23:06Speaker 2: with that? What's what? What's your take?
- 23:08Speaker 5: Well, I think we get back like we just spoke
- 23:10Speaker 5: about with you know, speed on the highway. I'm not
- 23:13Speaker 5: sure you're going to stop everybody at the end of day.
- 23:15Speaker 5: I don't know's there's a full proof system, uh. And
- 23:18Speaker 5: I think, as it is with any any system, there
- 23:22Speaker 5: is the propensity for to be of use.
- 23:24Speaker 9: Uh.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Like some people said, you know, we've got concerns with
- 23:26Speaker 5: Hope scholarship with yeah, yes, starting up a school and
- 23:32Speaker 5: taking the money and they can charge charge and have
- 23:36Speaker 5: school two days a week and what have you take
- 23:38Speaker 5: and take the money in there. We don't have any
- 23:40Speaker 5: guardrails or or accountability on that h So I think
- 23:44Speaker 5: anytime you're handing out government money, you want to try
- 23:47Speaker 5: to get as uh as much oversight as possible, but
- 23:51Speaker 5: I don't know one hundred percent prevent it. At the
- 23:53Speaker 5: same time, you know, you have to look at the
- 23:55Speaker 5: overall purpose of what you're trying to do and and
- 23:57Speaker 5: not hurt people, you know, when you're trying to cave
- 24:03Speaker 5: your basis.
- 24:03Speaker 4: On teligand day to Ferrell, I appreciate you taking time
- 24:06Speaker 4: out of your schedule. I think you're going to make
- 24:08Speaker 4: a return appearance with us later today on Metro News
- 24:10Speaker 4: mid David, I appreciate you being here.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Thanks a lot, Sure, absolutely, thank you Dave for time.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, twenty nine minutes now in front of ten o'clock.
- 24:17Speaker 4: But Dave Island Show in five eighty live brought to
- 24:19Speaker 4: part by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Text says, so you're all aware that there are two
- 24:24Speaker 4: mccorcil avenues in South Charleston, the old and the new.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Eighteen wheeler trunks get necked down into a dead end
- 24:30Speaker 4: street by their GPS name change there might help. That's
- 24:36Speaker 4: a good thought as well. Look, I have said this
- 24:38Speaker 4: on the show before, and I have several good friends
- 24:40Speaker 4: of mine that are in the trucking industry. We're in
- 24:43Speaker 4: the trucking industry whatsoever. So I don't go around bad
- 24:46Speaker 4: mouthing truckers. Okay, that's kind of not my thing. However,
- 24:49Speaker 4: I will say that we have an issue where I
- 24:53Speaker 4: live in Tays Valley where if you get in your
- 24:58Speaker 4: car with me and go with me just a second,
- 24:59Speaker 4: are you take your traveling westbound, you take the Tayes
- 25:02Speaker 4: Valley exit, and you hang a left to go into
- 25:05Speaker 4: the heart of Tays Valley, and we have the truck
- 25:07Speaker 4: stop there on the left. We do have a major
- 25:10Speaker 4: issue with trucks getting in the wrong lane and just
- 25:13Speaker 4: merging over and maybe really some of them, some not all,
- 25:18Speaker 4: seemingly just don't care that there are cars in those lanes.
- 25:21Speaker 4: And so I mean that's that I see it every day.
- 25:24Speaker 4: I see that every day. And again I'm not hating
- 25:26Speaker 4: on truck drivers. I mean I'm not at all, but
- 25:29Speaker 4: I'm hating on that behavior when it comes to truck drivers.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I will say that text day.
- 25:36Speaker 4: The first thing we could do regarding the I seventy
- 25:39Speaker 4: seven I sixty more Charleston is to provide cops on
- 25:41Speaker 4: the highway twenty four to seven. Well, good idea in theory,
- 25:46Speaker 4: but I don't think we have enough cops to do that.
- 25:49Speaker 4: We don't I mean every every law enforcement agency in
- 25:52Speaker 4: the area, although I know Charleston just hired and just
- 25:55Speaker 4: swore in several or are needing bodies right now and
- 25:59Speaker 4: we just don't have bodies.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Some sad news.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Broke on Friday, and we have the story posted this
- 26:05Speaker 4: morning WCCHS network page. The president and CEO the Clay
- 26:09Speaker 4: Center died suddenly. Al the Jar started the Clay Center
- 26:13Speaker 4: and started at the Clay Center, came to work there
- 26:15Speaker 4: in twenty fifteen, and he wasn't just the president and CEO.
- 26:20Speaker 4: He could be seen actually teaching the kids who came
- 26:23Speaker 4: into the center about various things. And he actually designed
- 26:27Speaker 4: the Clay Center mobile unit, this Clay to Go. I'm
- 26:29Speaker 4: sure you've seen that out and about. He actually designed it.
- 26:33Speaker 4: I mean to the point that he set down with
- 26:35Speaker 4: paper and pencil and drew out the plans. He will
- 26:39Speaker 4: be missed and again we have a story posted about
- 26:41Speaker 4: it at Wcchsnetwork dot Com also say and I think
- 26:47Speaker 4: I think the talk line boys originally asked me to
- 26:49Speaker 4: come on talk line to talk about this. Today I've
- 26:51Speaker 4: probably been booted for something more interesting. But I was
- 26:55Speaker 4: in the old hometown of Logan Saturday for the funeral
- 26:58Speaker 4: services for Willie Akers packed Willie Akers Arena, Logan Memorial
- 27:02Speaker 4: Field House as you may expect for the coach in
- 27:05Speaker 4: WVU legend. He was a great man for sure, and
- 27:07Speaker 4: he will be missed. On a happier note, I want
- 27:11Speaker 4: to say a special thank you to everyone who helped
- 27:13Speaker 4: us out with their WVRC media Cares for Kids Radio
- 27:16Speaker 4: thought on Thursday and Friday for WVU Medicine Golisan Who
- 27:19Speaker 4: Children's total is still coming in, but listen to this.
- 27:21Speaker 4: We raised and estimated one hundred and thirty thousand, one
- 27:25Speaker 4: hundred and twenty one dollars for the hospital. Well, let
- 27:29Speaker 4: me rephrase that we didn't. You did, greatest listeners in
- 27:33Speaker 4: the world, so thanks again for doing all that you
- 27:36Speaker 4: do there. High school football is back Wednesday night, the
- 27:38Speaker 4: return of high school game Nights. Thursday night Metro News Television.

- 27:47Speaker 4: we have coverage of Nitro at South Charleston. That game
- 27:50Speaker 4: here on WCCHS. Friday night, on WCCHS we have George

- 27:56Speaker 4: KWS Friday night, we'll continue our coverage of the Hoover Huskies.
- 28:01Speaker 4: They'll open up against Fairmont's senior. Will had that for
- 28:03Speaker 4: you have all the Hoover games on Friday nights as well.
- 28:06Speaker 4: And if you can't get enough football, West Virginia State
- 28:09Speaker 4: opening up their season Saturday afternoon against Chowen. And if
- 28:12Speaker 4: you're wondering about Chowen, they're a private Christian university in Murphysboro,
- 28:16Speaker 4: North Carolina. The more you know, twenty four minutes away
- 28:21Speaker 4: from ten Texas Day, lack of cops is the problem, Yeah,
- 28:27Speaker 4: it is.
- 28:27Speaker 2: It's a problem.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Texts years ago the state put up science saying targeted
- 28:31Speaker 4: enforcement area that turned out to be pretty much of
- 28:34Speaker 4: an idle threat. Well again, people don't pay attention to
- 28:37Speaker 4: science and it's it's an issue. I invite you to

- 31:37Speaker 4: got to report there from TJ. Meadows in the traffic
- 31:40Speaker 4: Copter also known as his vehicle. We've been talking about
- 31:43Speaker 4: traffic and apparently there's some something going on near Tony
- 31:47Speaker 4: the Taylor, near his near his business on Virginia streetings
- 31:51Speaker 4: and there TJ said, it's down to one lane there
- 31:53Speaker 4: are emergency vehicles in the area. We're checking on that,
- 31:56Speaker 4: but we appreciate the traffic update there. For mister Meadows
- 31:59Speaker 4: is the efforts his way to the studio text says,
- 32:02Speaker 4: I'm sorry, but this constant, Oh you took my clothing
- 32:04Speaker 4: vouchers away, you took my food stamps away as old
- 32:06Speaker 4: and played out. Why shouldn't someone who works their tail
- 32:09Speaker 4: off yet does not receive these type of benefits be
- 32:12Speaker 4: upset at the fact that it's actually their money being
- 32:14Speaker 4: taken and given to someone who thinks that they're automatically
- 32:17Speaker 4: entitled to it just because they made bad life choices.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Since when did I Since when did it become my
- 32:23Speaker 4: responsibility to feed and clothe your child? I raised my kids.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Why don't you take care of your child the way
- 32:30Speaker 4: we all took care of our own tex says Dave Bold.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Idea on the interstate traffic accident problems in Charleston lowered
- 32:38Speaker 4: the speed limit by ten miles an hour. Again, appreciate
- 32:43Speaker 4: the text. It won't work because people are going to
- 32:45Speaker 4: drive whatever however they want. You can I mean, you
- 32:49Speaker 4: start busting. I mean, we all know those areas, we
- 32:51Speaker 4: all travel in those areas that are called speed traps.
- 32:54Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Avery, little town in West Virginia across America kind of
- 32:57Speaker 4: gets that reputation and they make bank because people don't
- 33:00Speaker 4: pay attention.
- 33:01Speaker 2: To speed limits.
- 33:02Speaker 4: I mean, as I said, I got my first speeding ticket,
- 33:05Speaker 4: and all the years I've been driving a couple of
- 33:07Speaker 4: years ago in Athens, Ohio, I knew. I knew I
- 33:11Speaker 4: did not like Ohio University. With all due apologies to
- 33:14Speaker 4: Amanda Baron, yet another reason for me to detest that area.
- 33:19Speaker 4: I just got a text from my buddy, Tony the Taylor.
- 33:21Speaker 4: He is on his way to the store and Ryan,
- 33:24Speaker 4: he may have a report for us, just letting you
- 33:26Speaker 4: know on what's going on on Virginia Street. Let's go
- 33:28Speaker 4: out and check in with the West Coast operations of
- 33:31Speaker 4: WVRC Media and bring in Danny Jones from Cali.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, how are you?
- 33:36Speaker 9: I'm doing fine? How are you? David Man?
- 33:38Speaker 2: You signed awful Cheerry this morning.
- 33:41Speaker 9: I feel wonderful. I am. Have you ever you read
- 33:45Speaker 9: in New York Times, don't you? I do, yes In
- 33:48Speaker 9: the top right corner of the Internet page of court.
- 33:52Speaker 9: So it's always a story about somebody that lives in
- 33:56Speaker 9: New York cheap and there, and they're they're interesting. And
- 34:01Speaker 9: they got one guy who lives there for thirty one
- 34:03Speaker 9: thousand dollars a year and he's probably my age, you know,
- 34:08Speaker 9: and got tattoos all over him, walks dogs for people.
- 34:12Speaker 9: It's just I don't it's just interesting. Second interesting thing,
- 34:17Speaker 9: the Fever won last night, and I watched the entire game.
- 34:23Speaker 9: And you know, Kaylin Clark and Sophie Cunninghan get all
- 34:27Speaker 9: the attention, but there's a little player there named Kelsey Mitchell.
- 34:31Speaker 9: She's five foot eight and she scored thirty points last night. Wow,
- 34:37Speaker 9: five foot eight and Elijah Boston didn't even play. And
- 34:44Speaker 9: God found I found a sport. I just love.
- 34:48Speaker 2: What is it? What is it about it?
- 34:50Speaker 4: I mean, because I know that I know you were
- 34:51Speaker 4: a boxing guy. You and I've talked about boxing in
- 34:53Speaker 4: the past, but I never knew you to be that
- 34:55Speaker 4: big of a of a sports person, I mean kind
- 34:58Speaker 4: of in passing. But what is it about the NBA
- 35:00Speaker 4: that's got Danny all excited?
- 35:03Speaker 9: Well, I like in my lifetime. I remember, I almost
- 35:09Speaker 9: feel guilty about this because I remember when Nixon signed
- 35:14Speaker 9: title nine and I thought, oh my God, they weren't
- 35:20Speaker 9: going to have to have women's football teams and women's
- 35:22Speaker 9: this and women's that. And I almost feel guilty about
- 35:26Speaker 9: that because I was dead wrong. When I bought the
- 35:30Speaker 9: number eight. Nineteen seventy four, there were nine hundred lawyers
- 35:34Speaker 9: in Kannall Valley, there were six women. Now over half
- 35:38Speaker 9: of them are women. Look at how many women judges
- 35:41Speaker 9: we had. I think it's wonderful. It's been the biggest
- 35:44Speaker 9: thing in my life is the progress of women. And
- 35:50Speaker 9: watching these women play basketball. I mean they don't. They
- 35:54Speaker 9: don't jump thirty feet in the air and then duckle ball.
- 35:57Speaker 9: They can't. They play like norm more people. I love
- 36:01Speaker 9: watching them.
- 36:02Speaker 4: Well, I know I heard on my drive end this
- 36:04Speaker 4: morning that the fever. I think, didn't Kyla Clark have
- 36:06Speaker 4: like thirty seven points last night?
- 36:07Speaker 2: I think it's what I.
- 36:08Speaker 9: Heard seven, Kelsey Mitchell had thirty, Sophie had three. You know,
- 36:17Speaker 9: Sophie's flashy. I love Sophie, we all do, and Caitlin
- 36:21Speaker 9: and Clark, but there are other players on that team
- 36:25Speaker 9: and once Kelsey Mitchell. The others are Leah Boston, who
- 36:28Speaker 9: didn't play last night and she's six foot five and
- 36:32Speaker 9: if she's in the paint, she's gonna score, She's gonna score.
- 36:38Speaker 4: I'm presuming that where you're out in California. I'm presuming,
- 36:42Speaker 4: because I don't follow it that closely. I'm presuming that
- 36:44Speaker 4: you had a team or two out there, right WNBA team.
- 36:48Speaker 9: Oh, I don't even know. I don't.
- 36:51Speaker 2: You're just a fan of the Indiana Fever. Is that
- 36:53Speaker 2: what you're saying?
- 36:55Speaker 9: Probably? I mean, I'm not gonna watch any other teams.
- 36:59Speaker 9: I watched whatever sem they're playing. That doesn't mean the
- 37:02Speaker 9: other teams aren't good. The Fever got busted by New
- 37:05Speaker 9: York two nights ago, and but last night it was
- 37:09Speaker 9: fifty to fifty one at halftime, and then the Fever
- 37:14Speaker 9: just opened up. The Fever used to work on their
- 37:16Speaker 9: defense and quit. I mean, not everybody shoot three pointers. Okay,
- 37:25Speaker 9: get in the paint and get the ball in the hoop.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Basketball tips from Danny Jones. Is there anything that Danny
- 37:32Speaker 4: Jones can't do?
- 37:35Speaker 9: It's not like watching it, and I encourage other people
- 37:38Speaker 9: to watch it. Don't just watch Caitlin watch it, Leis,
- 37:42Speaker 9: watch Kelsey, Mitell and Timpkins and Heinz Allen and all
- 37:46Speaker 9: of them. They're all good.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Do you think that there's too much attention placed on
- 37:50Speaker 2: Caitlin Clark?
- 37:53Speaker 9: No, I mean, you know, how could you not pay
- 37:55Speaker 9: attention to it? We all love her. I mean she's
- 37:58Speaker 9: I mean, she scored thirty six having points. What she's
- 38:01Speaker 9: done for basketball, for women's basketball is incomparable. I mean,
- 38:06Speaker 9: it's incalculable. So I really really like her. But I
- 38:12Speaker 9: just want people to know there's other players on that team,
- 38:16Speaker 9: and players like this little Kelsey Mitchell. She's five foot eight.
- 38:22Speaker 9: She reminds me of what's his name, Isaiah Thomas, you know,
- 38:27Speaker 9: oh yeah, because he was only six foot one. And
- 38:33Speaker 9: now Leah Boston six foot five. And see, she's quiet,
- 38:38Speaker 9: but she used to be Katine carr protector until Sophie
- 38:42Speaker 9: came along and she just get in between them. You know,
- 38:46Speaker 9: you want to mess with me? Six foot five?
- 38:51Speaker 4: Tex says, Hey, Dave, tell Danny, no one cares about
- 38:54Speaker 4: the WNBA.
- 38:56Speaker 9: Okay, all right, that's fair enough.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Somebody does, or are they?
- 39:01Speaker 4: They wouldn't still be around because there's been similar leagues
- 39:04Speaker 4: in the past that have come and gone, and the
- 39:06Speaker 4: WNBA seems to be sticking around a little bit. Now,
- 39:08Speaker 4: are they going to make the money and fill out
- 39:11Speaker 4: the arenas that the NBA does know.
- 39:14Speaker 5: What.
- 39:15Speaker 9: Let's talk about that first time.
- 39:16Speaker 2: All right, go ahead, the.
- 39:18Speaker 9: Indiana fever and when they played at home a game
- 39:22Speaker 9: not too long ago, sold forty one thousand tickets. Okay,
- 39:27Speaker 9: the Indiana Pacers sold forty thousand tickets.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Okay.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I stand corrected then.
- 39:34Speaker 9: So and I'm looking because you know me, I might
- 39:38Speaker 9: wind up going to again.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I have no doubt you will.
- 39:41Speaker 9: But if I want to get up close, it's a
- 39:43Speaker 9: thousand dollars.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I got a report on what was going on.
- 39:48Speaker 4: I don't know if you heard it, to the beginning
- 39:49Speaker 4: of the segmentary that we had an incidental forr Giniu Street,
- 39:52Speaker 4: that there was a elevator fire. There was a smoke
- 39:56Speaker 4: smell from an old belt in the building there. This
- 39:58Speaker 4: is according to Tony. The Taylor tail me that it's
- 40:00Speaker 4: all clear now. So that was what TJ saw eye
- 40:03Speaker 4: witnessed TJ meadows when he was driving down.
- 40:05Speaker 9: It wasn't in Tony's building. It wasn't in Tony's building,
- 40:08Speaker 9: was it?
- 40:09Speaker 2: Well, the text says elevator had smoke smell. Uh said
- 40:13Speaker 2: the Yeah, I don't know it wasn't.
- 40:15Speaker 4: It wasn't in Tony's building, No, city It was actually
- 40:18Speaker 4: the City National Building. TJ tells me, okay, actually the
- 40:20Speaker 4: City National Building, not Tony's.
- 40:23Speaker 9: Oh that's a j walk. Okay, all right, well I'm
- 40:28Speaker 9: go ahead. It wasn't in Tony's building because he's got
- 40:30Speaker 9: a small business and you know, well, you.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Know, Tony being Tony, he's now serving. He's now selling
- 40:37Speaker 4: Marshall gear, which he hasn't before, and he he had
- 40:40Speaker 4: to put this in there that the Marshall logo gear
- 40:41Speaker 4: is so hot that it set the bank on fire
- 40:43Speaker 4: across the street.
- 40:46Speaker 9: So I glad to hear that I went to Marshall.
- 40:49Speaker 9: That's great.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, well for years people have asked him to
- 40:52Speaker 4: sell it, and so he's got he's got Marshall and
- 40:54Speaker 4: WU stuff down there. Now Tony the Taylor, all right,
- 40:57Speaker 4: so go ahead.
- 40:59Speaker 9: He does well with it, yeah you and I don't know.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Did you get to listen to the first part of
- 41:03Speaker 2: the show.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I had Delegate Dana Farrell on and we were talking
- 41:06Speaker 4: about the issues with traffic and the issues that we've
- 41:09Speaker 4: had here as of late. You know, there's been three,
- 41:11Speaker 4: four or five incidents within the last week or so. Well,
- 41:15Speaker 4: there's an accident in the morning hours on Wednesday, and
- 41:19Speaker 4: then tragically four people were killed Friday night when their
- 41:24Speaker 4: car went over at the sixty four to seventy seven
- 41:26Speaker 4: splint and went over the interstate and landed below. And
- 41:31Speaker 4: I mean, what do you think the issue? And again
- 41:34Speaker 4: I'm not speculating on these particular cases. There seems to
- 41:36Speaker 4: be more accidents, like people just distracted. I mean, you
- 41:39Speaker 4: drive on the busiest highways in America out in California
- 41:43Speaker 4: on a regular basis, which is where you are.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Now, what's the issue here.
- 41:46Speaker 9: Danny, I don't know. We don't. I don't see a
- 41:50Speaker 9: lot of that out on the four h five. I
- 41:52Speaker 9: don't see a lot of accidents. And people drive if
- 41:55Speaker 9: you drive seventy miles an hour on the four h five,
- 41:58Speaker 9: but you're standing still, yeah, yes, and I don't see.
- 42:02Speaker 9: I don't see. And I go down Scisco Sighway and
- 42:06Speaker 9: I don't see a lot of accidents. I heard somebody
- 42:10Speaker 9: say that we all lower the speed limit. We did
- 42:15Speaker 9: a president named Carter. It didn't go too well. People
- 42:21Speaker 9: are going to drive how they want to drive. And
- 42:23Speaker 9: you know, you driving across the country if you go
- 42:25Speaker 9: through Oklahoma, they got speed limits signs that say eighty right, eighties.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Well, I'm a big believer in that there should be
- 42:34Speaker 4: a speed minimum in certain situations.
- 42:37Speaker 9: And another there are David's forty miles in our speed
- 42:40Speaker 9: limits minimums, you know, But.
- 42:43Speaker 2: I mean you don't see those enforced.
- 42:45Speaker 4: I mean you don't see the signs that to say
- 42:47Speaker 4: here's this, hey, look you got to adjust, and here's
- 42:49Speaker 4: this is what any law enforcement officer will tell you.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Seventy on I sixty four is.
- 42:55Speaker 4: When we have a day like today, when it's sunny
- 42:57Speaker 4: and in the mid to upper seventies or eighty, that's optimal.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Obviously you need to slow down if we if if
- 43:04Speaker 4: it's raining or if it's snowing. There are more accidents
- 43:06Speaker 4: in the rain than there are in snow because people
- 43:08Speaker 4: just don't think about it. They can see the snow
- 43:10Speaker 4: and ice, they just don't think about the rain. I
- 43:12Speaker 4: don't think as much. But yeah, I'm a big believer
- 43:15Speaker 4: in speed in speed minimums.
- 43:17Speaker 2: I really am.
- 43:18Speaker 9: Hey did were these accidents at night?
- 43:23Speaker 4: One was in the attractor trailer incident was Wednesday morning.
- 43:28Speaker 4: The other accident was around It was ten fifty two
- 43:31Speaker 4: on Friday night.
- 43:33Speaker 9: Ten fifty two. Yeah, did they run a blood test?
- 43:38Speaker 4: Well, they were all killed, Danny, So I don't We're
- 43:42Speaker 4: not going to speculate on that.
- 43:43Speaker 2: I don't want to get into otten.
- 43:44Speaker 9: But I didn't know about it, and I'm sorry.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, no problem, okay.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Checks.
- 43:54Speaker 4: Somebody asked me if I was going to walk the
- 43:55Speaker 4: check for the Children's hospital up to Morgantown like Rob
- 43:58Speaker 4: Reel that you know.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I will not be walking to Morgantown. Hey, Danny, I
- 44:02Speaker 2: gotta take a break. Can you hang on to the break?
- 44:04Speaker 9: Sure? I can't nine p.

- 45:46Speaker 4: you don't know can hurt you. Danny Jones, with that
- 45:49Speaker 4: little little research and a texture actually sent me the
- 45:52Speaker 4: information as well. California has two WNBA teams, Danny, the
- 45:56Speaker 4: Los Angeles Sparks they play at the Crypto dot Com
- 45:59Speaker 4: Arena in l and the Golden State Valkyries they play
- 46:02Speaker 4: at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
- 46:05Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 46:07Speaker 9: I knew about the Sparks, I didn't know about the
- 46:11Speaker 9: other team.
- 46:11Speaker 2: You should go to the game.
- 46:13Speaker 9: Well maybe that Maybe ILL will, Maybe I will.
- 46:16Speaker 2: You should. What else is on your mind, mister Jones.
- 46:20Speaker 9: Well, there's an there's an opinion piece in the Wall
- 46:25Speaker 9: Street Journal about really blasting Trump. It's a lead editorial
- 46:32Speaker 9: about fighting with Canada over over these terraces. And then
- 46:41Speaker 9: there's gas prices out here. It's down a dollar from
- 46:45Speaker 9: the last time I was here, And which is a
- 46:49Speaker 9: good good news, good trend to good trend to go
- 46:53Speaker 9: in and uh and leads to hope. The mid terms
- 46:59Speaker 9: are not looking good for the Republicans, And I don't
- 47:02Speaker 9: say that with any glee or joy. I thought that
- 47:07Speaker 9: if we could save Collins up in Maine, Susan Collins,
- 47:14Speaker 9: we could, you know, the Republicans could keep the Senate.
- 47:17Speaker 9: But now I don't know. I mean, Calla Rica is ahead,
- 47:21Speaker 9: down and down in Texas, and I think that Michigan
- 47:31Speaker 9: has the best Republican senator that they've ever had, Mike Rogers.
- 47:37Speaker 9: And as I said, I've said this on your show
- 47:40Speaker 9: before the the DSA candidates. He says he's not, but
- 47:44Speaker 9: he is. He will run against Trump, Mike, Mike Rodgers
- 47:48Speaker 9: will run against him, and he'll run against Trump and
- 47:50Speaker 9: he'll probably win. Did you not hate that?
- 47:53Speaker 4: Did you see the interview with the Texas Governor Abbott
- 47:56Speaker 4: on This Morning yesterday on ABC or on Georgeta Monopolis
- 48:00Speaker 4: the show of yesterday?
- 48:01Speaker 9: I sure did, I sure did.
- 48:03Speaker 5: Well.
- 48:04Speaker 4: I'm not going to give my opinion of it. I'm
- 48:05Speaker 4: gonna let you give your opinion. What was your opinion
- 48:07Speaker 4: of that interview?
- 48:08Speaker 9: I like him, I mean I've always liked him. He's
- 48:12Speaker 9: got a compelling personal story and uh he had to
- 48:16Speaker 9: do some dancing.
- 48:19Speaker 4: When did we get to the place, though, Danny, and
- 48:21Speaker 4: this is you know this is on both sides. When
- 48:25Speaker 4: did we get to the place or maybe it's always
- 48:26Speaker 4: been this way and I just noticed it where political
- 48:29Speaker 4: figures refuse to answer questions without doing what about ism?
- 48:32Speaker 4: I mean they they no matter what they ask him
- 48:36Speaker 4: about UH, about about the race of tall Rico. They
- 48:41Speaker 4: asked him about that, and he turns it around to
- 48:44Speaker 4: talk about Joe Biden. They asked him about issues with Trump.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Do you think that? You know, how do you think
- 48:49Speaker 4: the president is doing with the war in Iran? And
- 48:51Speaker 4: somehow he turned it completely around against UH and start
- 48:56Speaker 4: talking about Joe Biden and that And look, that's a
- 48:59Speaker 4: problem on the ends. Just when did we get to
- 49:01Speaker 4: that position? I mean, you were mayor if somebody were
- 49:04Speaker 4: to have asked you about an issue, would you have
- 49:07Speaker 4: turned it on the previous Marriorga, Well, you know, I'm
- 49:09Speaker 4: still so and so on the on the.
- 49:10Speaker 9: Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? I got
- 49:14Speaker 9: I was in your face. I don't say anything. I'll
- 49:19Speaker 9: answer that with a question. Okay, what was he what
- 49:22Speaker 9: was he supposed to do?
- 49:24Speaker 5: Well?
- 49:24Speaker 2: I mean I don't know.
- 49:25Speaker 4: I got this wild idea that maybe people should actually
- 49:28Speaker 4: answer questions that they're asked, I.
- 49:29Speaker 9: Do too, and I think cable news has changed all that.
- 49:32Speaker 9: And the answer to that question, by the way, is
- 49:35Speaker 9: why didn't they renominate John Cornyn instead of this degenerate
- 49:40Speaker 9: Ken Factson. And he is a degenerate.
- 49:45Speaker 2: What makes him a degenerate?
- 49:47Speaker 9: Oh, he's a criminal, he's a he's been indicted twice.
- 49:52Speaker 9: He was in peace. He had an open relationship. His
- 49:59Speaker 9: why it's a state senator and he had an open girl.
- 50:02Speaker 9: I don't There's nothing about this guy I like. And
- 50:07Speaker 9: Talarico is just as bad on the other side. But
- 50:11Speaker 9: if tall Rica wins, the Republicans had better learn a
- 50:15Speaker 9: good lesson about this, you know, I mean really, because
- 50:21Speaker 9: it's not going to be fun for mister Trump. I'll
- 50:24Speaker 9: say one, I'll say something about President Trump. But this
- 50:30Speaker 9: ballroom needs building. Nixon built a bowling alley, and he's that.
- 50:36Speaker 9: You know the press room that they have now where
- 50:39Speaker 9: they go the press goes and they have the press
- 50:41Speaker 9: meetings and all that that used to be a swimming pool.
- 50:46Speaker 9: My question is did Nixon go to congress when he
- 50:49Speaker 9: changed those because he that Nixon changed him to go
- 50:53Speaker 9: to a press congress. You have used to go up
