- 0:35Speaker 4: of source material that nobody read. Anyway, with me as
- 0:39Speaker 4: he is every single week. Get that Ronto rap out
- 0:42Speaker 4: of your mouth so we can do this podcast, Jedi
- 0:46Speaker 4: Master John Mills, all.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Right, hold on, listen to me.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Though we write a story set in the Star Wars
- 0:52Speaker 2: universe with a crime fighter on Bat two named Batoo.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Man.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I think we've got a winner right there, and I
- 1:00Speaker 2: think we've absolutely I heard all of you out there.
- 1:04Speaker 2: At least three of you laughed. You liked the joke.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Matt didn't, but you did. And that's me. I'm John Mills.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That's what I bring to the show.
- 1:11Speaker 4: It's like a third of our of the audience laughing.
- 1:13Speaker 4: I don't think that that many people laughed.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Oh oh, hey, hey, hey, hey, full stop right there.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I don't care if one person is laughing, some part
- 1:23Speaker 2: of them inside laughed. Okay, that's that is the God's
- 1:27Speaker 2: honest truth. And we are grateful for everybody that does listen.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We do this for the love of the game. So
- 1:33Speaker 2: if you have a chance, go on over and leave
- 1:37Speaker 2: us a review on your podcast or a choice or
- 1:40Speaker 2: over on Apple podcasts. We love star ratings and reviews.
- 1:44Speaker 2: You know what, I'm gonna be honest. I know it's tough.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Nobody leaves star ratings and reviews for like anything anymore.
- 1:51Speaker 2: You know what, if you got the time, great, We're
- 1:54Speaker 2: not going to try to bribe you. Matt might try
- 1:56Speaker 2: to bribe you. I'm not gonna try to bribe you.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna use a Jedi mind trick. Right now, you
- 2:00Speaker 2: will at.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Least read it out on the show.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll do that.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We'll do that, and you know what, next one we get,
- 2:07Speaker 2: I will read and charge our voice from beginning to finish.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Guys, come on, come on, listeners. How could you want
- 2:14Speaker 4: to hear that?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Right? I want to hear it.
- 2:17Speaker 5: I want to hear it.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Everybody wants to hear it. Go back and rewrite a
- 2:21Speaker 2: review and then tell us you rewrote it. There you go,
- 2:23Speaker 2: we'll read it on the air for you. Absolutely absolutely,
- 2:28Speaker 2: So yeah, Matt, you know I know that. I mean,
- 2:33Speaker 2: you got a pretty interesting topic for tonight.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah, So we were talking to our good friend Nancy,
- 2:38Speaker 4: a good friend of the show, and there are some
- 2:42Speaker 4: changes that are coming to Galaxy's Edge, and of course
- 2:46Speaker 4: you know I've I visited you a few years ago
- 2:48Speaker 4: and we went to Galaxies Ed together so I could
- 2:50Speaker 4: finally experience it, and some of the some of the
- 2:52Speaker 4: changes are interesting, you know, the sense that they're going
- 2:56Speaker 4: to be adding music from all six original films and
- 3:00Speaker 4: not just seql Era, and they're going to be adding
- 3:02Speaker 4: a lot more original series characters to bat too, so
- 3:09Speaker 4: that you can get the feeling of more familiarity than
- 3:14Speaker 4: just the sequel trilogy. And so first I wanted to
- 3:18Speaker 4: ask you, do you think that that is a necessary
- 3:22Speaker 4: change here for Galaxy's Edge moving forward? Do you think
- 3:28Speaker 4: do you feel as though that's actually a must for
- 3:31Speaker 4: them to kind of embrace all of Star Wars rather
- 3:35Speaker 4: than just a specific time period if they want to
- 3:38Speaker 4: stay relevant in the theme park game.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Really, yes, I do, I really do.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I think that it is necessary, but I think it
- 3:52Speaker 2: also exposes a problem that Disney's going to have in
- 3:55Speaker 2: perpetuity now with the Eiger era. And stay with me here,
- 4:01Speaker 2: because I'm not dragging anybody here. Obviously, mister Iger is
- 4:04Speaker 2: smart enough to had a multinational, quadrillion dollar company and
- 4:09Speaker 2: all that type of stuff.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I'm not dragging him or anything like that.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But I think that the core issue and the need
- 4:16Speaker 2: for revamping it comes from the fact that it is
- 4:18Speaker 2: not a Disney ip.
- 4:20Speaker 3: It's one they bought and brought on, and I.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Think that they need to make these changes because I
- 4:25Speaker 2: would point to one the Muppets. The Muppets were part
- 4:29Speaker 2: of Hollywood Studio and they are gone now because they
- 4:33Speaker 2: never figured out how to revamp it and make it
- 4:36Speaker 2: relevant and it's stagnated. And that was another that was
- 4:40Speaker 2: like Lucasfilm when they brought Henson in. Right then I
- 4:44Speaker 2: would point to one of their own properties, which is
- 4:47Speaker 2: Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians of the Galaxy ride at
- 4:50Speaker 2: Epcot is amazing. It is one of the best rides
- 4:53Speaker 2: I've ever been on. I've only been on it once
- 4:55Speaker 2: or twice, and I thought it it's I still talk
- 4:58Speaker 2: about it to this day. It's an incredible ride. But
- 5:02Speaker 2: the thing is, as I understand it, Guardians the Galaxy
- 5:05Speaker 2: is gone now for good. So now they're boxed in
- 5:09Speaker 2: on that one will kids in ten years even know
- 5:13Speaker 2: what Guardians of the Galaxy is.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Now. Everybody knows Cinderella.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Everybody knows these classic tales, and it's because their parents
- 5:21Speaker 2: grew up telling them about them. So it makes perfect
- 5:23Speaker 2: sense to me that they're going to bring the Talsoda's
- 5:25Speaker 2: time right exactly. But seriously, like, you know, going back
- 5:30Speaker 2: to a more ot flavor, sorry, original trilogy flavor. Yeah, Disney.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Disney parks are built on the foundation of parents and
- 5:39Speaker 2: grandparents taking kids and being like, this is what I
- 5:42Speaker 2: loved when I was little. Uh.
- 5:44Speaker 5: You know, it's interesting because.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I think you're right in the sense that if you
- 5:49Speaker 4: want to stay relevant, you have to find a way
- 5:51Speaker 4: to make it something that appeals to everyone who's going
- 5:56Speaker 4: to come visit pigeonholing it into a time period that
- 6:01Speaker 4: only spoke to a very small segment of the population instead.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Of all of the population.
- 6:11Speaker 4: From original series fans, you know, original trilogy fans to
- 6:15Speaker 4: prequel era fans to then SEQL Arab fans, I think, really,
- 6:19Speaker 4: did you know, hurt the whole idea? One of the
- 6:24Speaker 4: things I would say with this, I do get the
- 6:29Speaker 4: sense that they are making a mistake already by also
- 6:34Speaker 4: not leaning into the prequel trilogy and those characters, because
- 6:41Speaker 4: the generation that should be primed for Star Wars right
- 6:45Speaker 4: now is the generation that grew up with Clone Wars
- 6:47Speaker 4: and Rebels and and those characters, and now, of course
- 6:52Speaker 4: bad Batch like, you have generations of kids whose whose
- 6:56Speaker 4: Star Wars was the Clone Wars and then of course
- 7:01Speaker 4: was the prequels, right and like and Rebels. Yes, so
- 7:07Speaker 4: I think in that you're you are actually hurting yourselves
- 7:11Speaker 4: by just tying into the original trilogy. M I agree,
- 7:17Speaker 4: instead of all of Star Wars as a whole, and
- 7:20Speaker 4: you know I would I think I mentioned this when
- 7:23Speaker 4: we did our review, But you know, I think one
- 7:26Speaker 4: of the things as well too.
- 7:28Speaker 5: In one of the ways in which.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Warners was so successful with what it did with the
- 7:35Speaker 4: Harry Potter universe, which that you got to go experience
- 7:38Speaker 4: the places you always wanted to visit, and with Batou
- 7:42Speaker 4: you don't get to do that because Batoo is never
- 7:44Speaker 4: a place we visited on screen. And so I think
- 7:47Speaker 4: if you if you want to find ways, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 4: to maybe make this place relevant for the long term,
- 7:57Speaker 4: the one way to do that is to give people
- 8:00Speaker 4: the experience of coming back to a place that they love.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Both you and I, I've been to see you a
- 8:08Speaker 4: few times now, and we've been to Galaxies once, but
- 8:14Speaker 4: we've been multiple times to the Wizarding World of Harry
- 8:18Speaker 4: Potter because both you and I, who do a Star
- 8:22Speaker 4: Wars podcast not a Harry Potter podcast, love returning to
- 8:27Speaker 4: the world of Harry Potter with the way that it's
- 8:31Speaker 4: done there, not only because the rides are phenomenal, which
- 8:34Speaker 4: they are. I mean, Hagar's Magical Bike Ride is one
- 8:37Speaker 4: of the best rides I've been on.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Hands down, hands down, one of the best coasters I've
- 8:41Speaker 3: ever gotten.
- 8:42Speaker 4: And of course the Grengott's Ride is great, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 4: And so two rides there, and then of course now
- 8:51Speaker 4: with Epic Universe you've got the Ministry of Magic Ride,
- 8:54Speaker 4: which is also fantastic, pretty great, right, I mean, so
- 8:58Speaker 4: they're kind of knocking it out a park in that
- 9:00Speaker 4: sense of not only is it the aesthetic of the
- 9:03Speaker 4: place and being in all the places you loved from
- 9:06Speaker 4: those films, and you know from the books in that sense, right,
- 9:09Speaker 4: you know, they they they're it has the aesthetic that
- 9:12Speaker 4: they used in the movies. But you know, for anyone
- 9:15Speaker 4: who's a book fan, Diagon Alley feels like dian and Alley.
- 9:18Speaker 4: You know, Hoggsmead feels like Hogsmead. And so if you
- 9:23Speaker 4: did that with Star Wars then and you you had
- 9:28Speaker 4: a really interesting idea. And I thought, uh, as we
- 9:31Speaker 4: were talking with Yancey today and I actually thought it
- 9:34Speaker 4: was genius of a way in which you could you
- 9:37Speaker 4: could begin to branch off from that two and create
- 9:44Speaker 4: different parts of the Star Wars universe organically with what
- 9:49Speaker 4: they already have there.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Well, i'm I'm I appreciate the compliment. Yeah, I mean,
- 9:57Speaker 2: like you could. I don't know how difficult it was,
- 10:00Speaker 2: but given the fact that the shuttle is no longer
- 10:03Speaker 2: in play from the defunct hotel and all of that
- 10:06Speaker 2: sort of stuff, you could have the Falcon be your
- 10:09Speaker 2: pivot point. You could enter from Batou side and go
- 10:14Speaker 2: into the Falcon and walk out into Tatooine side. So
- 10:17Speaker 2: basically you have a an era switch right there, and
- 10:21Speaker 2: you make it, you know, agnostic in that sense in
- 10:25Speaker 2: that it's like, you know, I'm going to be able
- 10:26Speaker 2: to go to both places, and then you could also
- 10:28Speaker 2: approach from Tatooine side and then walk out and you're
- 10:30Speaker 2: on Battou and you put stuff on either end that
- 10:33Speaker 2: would appeal to everybody.
- 10:35Speaker 3: And you know, while.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You say you know they should incorporate Clone Wars era stuff,
- 10:42Speaker 2: prequel era stuff, I mean they do. They have a
- 10:44Speaker 2: naimoidan shuttle. It's just it's raised up. You have to
- 10:47Speaker 2: like look at it right, So there are little love
- 10:49Speaker 2: marks all throughout the place. They have a loath cat,
- 10:52Speaker 2: a sleep in a cage. But you have to find
- 10:54Speaker 2: the bizarre and walk through it to truly get that experience.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean I think that you know what
- 11:04Speaker 2: you're saying with the Harry Potter stuff. I'm not even
- 11:06Speaker 2: the world's biggest Harry Potter fan. You're much larger Harry
- 11:09Speaker 2: Potter fan than I am. Absolutely, It's like, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I'm I'm a casual fan of Harry Potter. You're a
- 11:17Speaker 2: You're a diehard fan. You have a podcast that is
- 11:21Speaker 2: here on the network that finished some time ago that's
- 11:24Speaker 2: still getting new listeners that were ol posts where you
- 11:28Speaker 2: went through the Harry Potter series, one chapter at a time,
- 11:31Speaker 2: and everybody loves it.
- 11:33Speaker 4: And this is not to shoot my own horn, but
- 11:36Speaker 4: it is the most successful podcast I've ever done in
- 11:40Speaker 4: the sense of listenership. And it's not even close, my friend,
- 11:46Speaker 4: It's not even close, which is insane to me.
- 11:50Speaker 2: The love for it is real, and it's out there.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It's here on the network. So you know, anybody listening
- 11:54Speaker 2: to the sound of my voice, you love Harry Potter.
- 11:56Speaker 2: You haven't listen to ol post. Everybody loves it. Fifty
- 11:59Speaker 2: million Elvis fans can't wrong. So go on over and
- 12:01Speaker 2: give it a listen. Okay, but seriously, right, I go
- 12:06Speaker 2: back to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as much
- 12:09Speaker 2: as I can because I just love walking through the place.
- 12:13Speaker 2: There are times where I've gone to Universal and I
- 12:16Speaker 2: didn't even bother with the rides. I just like walking
- 12:18Speaker 2: through because it's such a wonderfully realized spot. Also, they
- 12:25Speaker 2: very smartly put a lot of shade on the Digon
- 12:27Speaker 2: Alley side, So in Florida, when there's a lot of sun,
- 12:31Speaker 2: Digon Alley is truly a refuge from you know, the
- 12:36Speaker 2: blistering heat that you can experience during summertime and all
- 12:39Speaker 2: of that.
- 12:39Speaker 3: But you know what about you?
- 12:42Speaker 2: I mean, like, how would you pivot you've been I
- 12:45Speaker 2: know you've only been to Battoo once, but when you
- 12:49Speaker 2: walk through, there seem to be a number of open
- 12:52Speaker 2: areas that could be converted in some way, right, Like,
- 12:55Speaker 2: would you do anything with those spots?
- 12:58Speaker 4: So I wanted to touch on just real quick because again,
- 13:02Speaker 4: the reason I brought it up, and this was not
- 13:04Speaker 4: me just like blowing and smoke up my friend's butt,
- 13:07Speaker 4: because I would never do that to you, because that's
- 13:10Speaker 4: not the type of friends we are.
- 13:11Speaker 5: We're more likely to make fun of each other than that.
- 13:14Speaker 4: But what I thought was brilliant about the idea with
- 13:17Speaker 4: the Falcon is that it's the same idea that they
- 13:20Speaker 4: use with the Hogwarts Express and that's what yeah, and
- 13:26Speaker 4: that's what makes that work. So or again, you could
- 13:29Speaker 4: make a ride similar to that that does the same
- 13:32Speaker 4: type of thing, right, you know, it could almost be
- 13:36Speaker 4: like a Star Tours thing, and yet the ride is
- 13:41Speaker 4: to shuttle you between one place and another, and so
- 13:44Speaker 4: absolutely would work.
- 13:49Speaker 3: You know.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I think one of the things that's really interesting is
- 13:52Speaker 4: that what they have not embraced, especially because they had
- 13:57Speaker 4: not embraced all eras of of you know, Star Wars
- 14:03Speaker 4: up to this point until now.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Is that.
- 14:09Speaker 4: It would be great if you had rides referencing things
- 14:13Speaker 4: that were so popular in the Star Wars saga, Like
- 14:18Speaker 4: why isn't there a ride that is Millennium Falcon through
- 14:24Speaker 4: the asteroid belt? You know, why isn't you know and
- 14:28Speaker 4: again dark ride that you know, if you do it right,
- 14:32Speaker 4: you know, you could do it similar almost to the
- 14:39Speaker 4: Battle the Ministry, you know, very similar to that, but
- 14:45Speaker 4: allow people to experience something that puts you in the
- 14:48Speaker 4: cockpit of the falcon or something, you know, that'd be cool.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Well, I mean just randomize what you get in the
- 14:54Speaker 2: cockpit of the falcon right now?
- 14:56Speaker 5: That too.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you have the Hondo thing, which is great. I
- 14:59Speaker 2: love that they had Hondo all of that stuff, But
- 15:02Speaker 2: what you're talking about, you could easily just change you
- 15:05Speaker 2: have to pilot through the asteroid field.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Yeah, there you go.
- 15:11Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:12Speaker 4: I think another thing that's kind of strange to me
- 15:14Speaker 4: is like, why isn't there a speeder bake. Why isn't
- 15:18Speaker 4: there a speeder bike chase ride that maybe feels similar
- 15:25Speaker 4: to Hagrid's Mac digital bike ride that allows you to
- 15:29Speaker 4: do something like that. It almost you know, except for
- 15:34Speaker 4: the ride that's you know, kind of changing, which is
- 15:39Speaker 4: the Aerosmith ride over there.
- 15:41Speaker 5: It's like they're afraid of roller coasters, which I don't
- 15:44Speaker 5: understand they are.
- 15:45Speaker 1: No.
- 15:46Speaker 2: This is one of the things is Disney's brand isn't
- 15:49Speaker 2: really roller coasters. Yes you have Space Mountain, Yes you
- 15:54Speaker 2: have the Neutron ride. I get that. I've yes, I've
- 15:58Speaker 2: been to Disney. It's never been the coaster place. That's
- 16:02Speaker 2: the one thing where it's like, I think Universal has
- 16:04Speaker 2: the advantage with something like that, is Universal has I mean,
- 16:08Speaker 2: their coaster game is top notch, and you know, quick
- 16:13Speaker 2: shout out. SeaWorld's coaster game is actually pretty darn strong too, honestly.
- 16:18Speaker 2: But you know, I it's never been really a coaster
- 16:23Speaker 2: type of place Disney World, right at least, And I
- 16:27Speaker 2: think that's because of the age thing. You know, people
- 16:30Speaker 2: beyond a certain age and people below a certain age
- 16:33Speaker 2: are not coaster fans, and so it makes it a
- 16:36Speaker 2: much more universal experience to have non coaster stuff. But
- 16:42Speaker 2: you could do a plenty of dark rides like the
- 16:48Speaker 2: Speederbick thing you're talking about.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Over at Animal Kingdom.
- 16:52Speaker 2: They have an avatar ride and it's called Flight of
- 16:57Speaker 2: Passage and it's phenomenal. Like I always tell the story,
- 17:01Speaker 2: the first time I wrote it, I cried, not because
- 17:04Speaker 2: I was so emotionally touched, but because I felt I
- 17:07Speaker 2: had experienced something that was like an evolution of the technology.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Like I was legitimately floored with what I had experienced,
- 17:15Speaker 2: and it made me emotional because I felt blessed to
- 17:18Speaker 2: have lived through a time where I could witness it.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I know how dramatic that sounds. I wasn't like crying
- 17:24Speaker 2: like I was at my dad's funeral or something like that,
- 17:26Speaker 2: but like you get tiery where you're like, wow, this
- 17:28Speaker 2: is really yeah, I'm you know, you feel so blessed
- 17:32Speaker 2: to experience it sort of thing. But you could do
- 17:36Speaker 2: a speeder bike ride like that, for sure. Absolutely, I
- 17:41Speaker 2: think that too much of it. I think the real
- 17:44Speaker 2: missed opportunity is that they had that hotel, and the
- 17:46Speaker 2: hotel was supposed to have a shuttle that came over,
- 17:49Speaker 2: So the way they designed it, you know, didn't lean
- 17:53Speaker 2: itself in. But I think you're right, I mean, but
- 17:56Speaker 2: to your point, didn't I swear I heard somewhere that
- 18:00Speaker 2: originally they were going to have multiple rides like that,
- 18:03Speaker 2: and it was it was Eiger who came in and
- 18:05Speaker 2: said no, no, no no.
- 18:06Speaker 3: And may remember they.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Were building Galaxi's Edge and then they stopped it for
- 18:11Speaker 2: six months while they reimagineered it or something like that.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Am I remembering wrong?
- 18:17Speaker 4: You probably are remembering better than I do, because I
- 18:21Speaker 4: don't feel like I was just plugged into that, you know,
- 18:24Speaker 4: in all honestly partly because you know, I don't live
- 18:28Speaker 4: in Florida, and the thought process of when I was
- 18:31Speaker 4: ever actually going to get to go was you know,
- 18:34Speaker 4: a moot point for me, and so but I do think, look,
- 18:41Speaker 4: one of the things that that I think would be
- 18:45Speaker 4: smart is to begin to branch off from bat To
- 18:50Speaker 4: and to create other areas of the Star Wars galaxy.
- 18:55Speaker 5: For you.
- 18:57Speaker 4: It utilized bat To as the landing point. And part
- 19:01Speaker 4: of that, too, is just that, you know, when you
- 19:03Speaker 4: think about BA two, there's just really so little there.
- 19:08Speaker 4: There's two rides, that's it, and and the rest of
- 19:13Speaker 4: it is this concrete jungle that you're walking around, which
- 19:16Speaker 4: looks vaguely Star Wars y. And I got to give
- 19:20Speaker 4: it to him. The Toronto rap is the one of
- 19:22Speaker 4: the best things I've ever had at a theme park
- 19:24Speaker 4: food wise delicious, But you know, Oga's is too small
- 19:31Speaker 4: and uh you know, so gosh. If you give people
- 19:35Speaker 4: the opportunity to visit the Cantina and Star Wars, I mean,
- 19:39Speaker 4: uh of tatooine, Come on, I mean, who doesn't want
- 19:43Speaker 4: to have a drink at the bar.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I love DJ Rex, I think he's great, But to
- 19:52Speaker 2: your point, yes, everybody wants to walk in and here
- 19:55Speaker 2: doo do do do do do do do do do
- 19:58Speaker 2: do do do. Even my youngest when I put on
- 20:03Speaker 2: a shirt that you got me that had figuring Dan
- 20:07Speaker 2: in the modal nodes on that, yeah, she looked at it.
- 20:10Speaker 2: She looked at it and she said, oh yeah, and
- 20:12Speaker 2: she started going.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Everybody knows that song. That's what you're going to Galaxy's
- 20:19Speaker 2: Edge for. You're not going for, oh listen to this
- 20:22Speaker 2: hot beat that we came up with. No, you're going
- 20:25Speaker 2: because you want to hear that and you want to
- 20:28Speaker 2: see somebody that looks like wou hare serving you drinks.
- 20:32Speaker 3: That sort of thing.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Although I love Ogas, I thought Oga's was phenomenal. I
- 20:36Speaker 2: think Ogus is probably just next It is next level design.
- 20:42Speaker 2: And that's the thing is you and I were coming
- 20:46Speaker 2: at it from a place of extreme good fortune because
- 20:51Speaker 2: we've both been. There are people who haven't been who
- 20:54Speaker 2: are probably listening to us, and it's like, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 2: you know, it's like somebody complaining that, you know, the
- 21:03Speaker 2: the the gourmet meal that they got.
- 21:06Speaker 3: It was like, well, you know, the steak wasn't perfect.
- 21:09Speaker 3: And I get that, but I think that.
- 21:14Speaker 2: The spot that you're coming from and I'm coming from,
- 21:17Speaker 2: is it could be so like we are always looking
- 21:20Speaker 2: at it as but it could be so much better.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And the thing that is, you know, let me ask
- 21:27Speaker 2: you this question though, okay, is we went to all
- 21:31Speaker 2: of Hollywood Studios. Did you feel that way about any
- 21:36Speaker 2: other part of the park, Because Hollywood Studios is you know,
- 21:39Speaker 2: you got Tower of Terror, you got Toy story Land,
- 21:43Speaker 2: the Muppets rip, Yeah, Star Tours from back in the day,
- 21:47Speaker 2: you have the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. Like, did you
- 21:53Speaker 2: get the same vibe from anything in the rest of
- 21:55Speaker 2: the place where you're like, eh, this could have been better?
- 21:58Speaker 3: I mean, is it just that the park itself is underwhelming.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Universal Studios as a whole is relatively underwhelming.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Tower of Terror is fantastic though as a ride I
- 22:08Speaker 4: loved it. I thought it was really well done. But
- 22:12Speaker 4: you know, again, that's where I think that they have
- 22:18Speaker 4: the opportunity because that park needs such a facelift to
- 22:23Speaker 4: really make that a park that just is basically full
- 22:29Speaker 4: of Star Wars goodness. And again, I think that the
- 22:35Speaker 4: Lisiting World of Harry Potter kind of shows the way
- 22:39Speaker 4: on how to make this something really spectacular. You could
- 22:44Speaker 4: do something really special, and you could make it this
- 22:47Speaker 4: place that people want to continue to go back to
- 22:50Speaker 4: over and over again. And part of that is by
- 22:53Speaker 4: creating compelling rides that people are like, Man, I've ridden
- 22:56Speaker 4: that one hundred times and I want to do.
- 22:58Speaker 5: It again, you know.
- 23:01Speaker 4: And honestly, you know, that's one of the things that
- 23:04Speaker 4: kind of keeps me going back to Universal with you
- 23:09Speaker 4: is that all of their parks have rides that I
- 23:12Speaker 4: continuously want to go back and ride again because it's
- 23:15Speaker 4: just so much fun. And you know, in the end,
- 23:22Speaker 4: you know, I think ambiance only does so much for
- 23:26Speaker 4: a park. What parks are best at is when they
- 23:31Speaker 4: give you ambiyonce plus the thrills that you enjoy and
- 23:36Speaker 4: the special moments that you can't get anywhere else. Right,
- 23:40Speaker 4: and so when you walk into the Galaxy's edge and
- 23:44Speaker 4: everything and you could do fun things there, you know,
- 23:47Speaker 4: I didn't build a lightsaber because it's what two hundred
- 23:49Speaker 4: dollars to build a lightsaber, and you know.
- 23:51Speaker 5: I was going to spend that money.
- 23:53Speaker 4: I didn't build a droid, you know, because it also
- 23:56Speaker 4: costs a fortune, and it already costs me a fortune
- 23:59Speaker 4: to get there.
- 24:00Speaker 2: To borrow a line from Kang and Codo's talking about HBO, No,
- 24:04Speaker 2: that's what cost extra.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I mean I never did.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I've never done either one of those experiences either, because
- 24:09Speaker 2: it was like, you know, I can't really justify the
- 24:13Speaker 2: extra cost after going you.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Know, yeah, and so but I again, I kind of
- 24:20Speaker 4: just think the other part of this is is that
- 24:26Speaker 4: you don't want to walk into a place and feel
- 24:28Speaker 4: Star Wars adjacent. You just want it to feel Star Wars.
- 24:31Speaker 4: And the most Star warsing place there is when you're
- 24:33Speaker 4: standing in front of them in a millennium falcon.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Oh, hands down, you know.
- 24:37Speaker 4: That's that's just an I mean, being there that that's
- 24:40Speaker 4: a great experience, but you want the whole park to
- 24:42Speaker 4: feel like that, right Again, that's what the Wizarding World does.
- 24:46Speaker 4: The whole park makes you whichever part of the park
- 24:49Speaker 4: you're in, even now with the new epic world that
- 24:54Speaker 4: they did with the Fantastic Beasts. But it also combines,
- 24:58Speaker 4: you know, a classic Harry Potter element with the Ministry magic.
- 25:03Speaker 5: I mean that.
- 25:06Speaker 4: You just around every corner, you feel like you're there.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And yes, that's what you kind of want, not kind
- 25:15Speaker 4: of want. That's what I would want from my Star
- 25:18Speaker 4: Wars experience. In fact, that should be the Star Wars
- 25:24Speaker 4: experience because Star Wars has so many places that you
- 25:27Speaker 4: could visit and you could create that would make you
- 25:32Speaker 4: feel like you're there, you know, yep, there's just so
- 25:38Speaker 4: many planets to choose from.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And so I think replacing just that special you know
- 25:46Speaker 2: tie fighter thingy that they made that never showed up
- 25:49Speaker 2: in episode nine, right, which is a cool design, replace
- 25:53Speaker 2: that with a classic tie fighter easy win right there,
- 25:56Speaker 2: that you know, that sort of thing. But let me
- 25:59Speaker 2: ask you this question just as we're closing out right,
- 26:03Speaker 2: is everybody wants to put Vader in, and they're gonna
- 26:06Speaker 2: put Vader in. Do you think that's the right move
- 26:11Speaker 2: or should they be leaning more into Mando verse, which
- 26:18Speaker 2: you know, baby, you know, Grogu is universally loved and
- 26:24Speaker 2: you could bridge that gap pretty easy. Do you think
- 26:27Speaker 2: that Vader boxes them in as well? Or do you
- 26:29Speaker 2: think that he is just an eternal character that no
- 26:31Speaker 2: matter who goes, they want to see Vader, Like when
- 26:36Speaker 2: they go there, Vader's who they want to see, you know.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I think that again, you know, but two should be
- 26:54Speaker 4: kind of be this place that feels like it can
- 26:56Speaker 4: encompass all sides of Star Wars right from all the
- 27:02Speaker 4: trilogies and everything else in between. And if you had
- 27:07Speaker 4: been smart, you know, you would have created stories where
- 27:10Speaker 4: I mean, gosh, you would have gotten a Han solo
- 27:13Speaker 4: film and Part two where they went to Batou, right,
- 27:17Speaker 4: and you would have gotten something in the Bad Batch
- 27:22Speaker 4: where they went to Batoo or in a clone Wars,
- 27:27Speaker 4: you know, like Tales of the Jedi or something, you know,
- 27:31Speaker 4: something you would have had all Eras touched this, and
- 27:37Speaker 4: then it could just be this place where all of
- 27:38Speaker 4: these characters can exist and you could remember them being there, right.
- 27:43Speaker 4: The hardest era for that to happen obviously is the
- 27:46Speaker 4: original Trilogy era, because we just don't have, you know,
- 27:51Speaker 4: any animated series taking place in that era or anything
- 27:54Speaker 4: like that. But like you said, the Mando Verse right
- 27:57Speaker 4: after the original trilogy, uh, with you know, younger Luke
- 28:02Speaker 4: and Lea and all those characters plus all the Mando characters. Yes,
- 28:07Speaker 4: I think it doesn't really necessarily box them in. I
- 28:12Speaker 4: just don't think they have done a good and enough
- 28:14Speaker 4: job of synergy. And I do think that a part
- 28:18Speaker 4: of this is that, you know, Disney as the parent company,
- 28:21Speaker 4: was dictating what it was going to be and instead
- 28:26Speaker 4: of working really in conjunction with Lucasfilm as a partner,
- 28:35Speaker 4: to say what should be here, what's gonna be the
- 28:39Speaker 4: biggest draw? And you know you you you came on
- 28:42Speaker 4: at the beginning and you're like, I'm not gonna ding
- 28:44Speaker 4: Bob Iger, but this is one of his biggest mistakes.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Well well no, no, no, no, no no, we're still
- 28:50Speaker 2: not going to ding by Biger because neither one of
- 28:52Speaker 2: us wants to be you know, disappeared.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Okay, then, mister, I'm.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Sorry, I misspoke. You're the bad, You're the tops.
- 29:02Speaker 3: We love you. There's nothing you ever did wrong. Mister,
- 29:05Speaker 3: I've never love you.
- 29:06Speaker 5: No, no, thank you, thank you for all of that.
- 29:09Speaker 5: You have never messed up, and.
- 29:11Speaker 3: You're gonna get me killed. I live in Florida, for
- 29:13Speaker 3: God's sake, So.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, all is to say is like, I
- 29:18Speaker 4: think the reason we're having this conversation is because it
- 29:20Speaker 4: was interesting to us that this news came out, and
- 29:23Speaker 4: both you and I we want this to be big.
- 29:28Speaker 4: We want this to be a success. We want this
- 29:30Speaker 4: to be a place that we want to continue to
- 29:32Speaker 4: go to.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:34Speaker 4: What I kind of dislike personally is that I'm in
- 29:37Speaker 4: a spot where it's like, yeah, if I went ever
- 29:39Speaker 4: went back there, I'm fine with it, Like that's where
- 29:43Speaker 4: I am. And I know other fans are different in
- 29:46Speaker 4: that sense, but it's like I feel like I experienced
- 29:49Speaker 4: enough of it, you know, and I had a fuzzy
- 29:52Speaker 4: ton ton and and and you know all the things
- 29:55Speaker 4: I got to ride both of the rides.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And.
- 29:58Speaker 2: And drop the green milk, blue milk, good green milk, blanda.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yes, giving the milk is stop pretending it is great.
- 30:06Speaker 4: So you know, in the end, like that's why we're
- 30:08Speaker 4: talking about this, because you know, I do want there
- 30:11Speaker 4: to be a better synergy between what's coming out on
- 30:16Speaker 4: the shows and the theater and all this stuff with
- 30:19Speaker 4: what's happening in the park to drive that together. And
- 30:24Speaker 4: you know, obviously that's what Disney used to be really
- 30:28Speaker 4: good at because they were making most of their money
- 30:30Speaker 4: on the parks. And of course now they're really making
- 30:33Speaker 4: most of their money on the parks because they are
- 30:34Speaker 4: gouging us like crazy to get into the parks. And so,
- 30:40Speaker 4: but give me a reason to not feel bad about
- 30:43Speaker 4: being gouged then, especially when it comes to Star Wars,
- 30:46Speaker 4: and that's what I feel like. They're not legitimizing the cost.
- 30:52Speaker 4: And that's where if we, you know, took some of
- 30:55Speaker 4: these ideas, or any of these type of ideas, I
- 30:58Speaker 4: think Galaxy's Edge could be the one of the premier
- 31:01Speaker 4: spots in Orlando specifically because you have the space to
- 31:07Speaker 4: do it, and it could make Hollywood Studios one of
- 31:15Speaker 4: the coolest parks in all of Orlando if you did
- 31:18Speaker 4: this right.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Listen, we're basically saying, let us love you, please.
- 31:22Speaker 5: Exactly, help me, help you, help me, help you, or.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Jim Kirk from Star Trek five, let me do something something. Yes,
- 31:32Speaker 2: So you know, speaking of doing something. If somebody wants
- 31:36Speaker 2: to reach out to you because you hit a nerve,
- 31:38Speaker 2: you hit a note, they agree or they disagree, Where
- 31:41Speaker 2: can they find you online?
- 31:43Speaker 5: Absolutely?
- 31:43Speaker 4: Find me all over social media under the name Matt
- 31:45Speaker 4: Rushing's zero two. If I'm on the platform, that's my name.
- 31:49Speaker 4: We mentioned you could find me over at olposts here
- 31:52Speaker 4: on the network. It's a completed show about every single
- 31:53Speaker 4: chapter the Harry Potter series. Over on the TFM network,
- 31:57Speaker 4: got a bunch of shows. One is the six of
- 31:59Speaker 4: two Club. We're talking about all the franchises we love
- 32:02Speaker 4: outside of Star Trek. In fact, we just hit our
- 32:05Speaker 4: five hundredth official episode, so check that out.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Very fun.
- 32:11Speaker 4: We got a lot of great stuff coming for you
- 32:12Speaker 4: this year, and a lot of great Star Trek talk
- 32:14Speaker 4: over there with Chris Jones. But John, If Bob Arger
- 32:17Speaker 4: wants to know where to find you, where can you
- 32:18Speaker 4: find you? No?
- 32:19Speaker 3: No, he can't fight.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I don't I'm not in the US anymore. Nope, Bob
- 32:22Speaker 2: Iger can't find me. Please, No, I'm I live it.
- 32:25Speaker 5: You've hiding at our friend's house in France.
- 32:30Speaker 2: No, I'm at an undisclosed location in a bunker somewhere Okay,
- 32:35Speaker 2: you'll never find me.
- 32:36Speaker 3: But if you want eight days later for John, twenty
- 32:42Speaker 3: eight days later at the Eiger Temple.
- 32:44Speaker 2: So if if you want to reach me, if you
- 32:48Speaker 2: want to give me heads up that the drone strike
- 32:50Speaker 2: is coming from Disney headquarters, you can find me as
- 32:52Speaker 2: Kessel Junkie out there.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Find me over on Letterbox.
- 32:55Speaker 2: That's where I love to talk about movies and outrage
- 32:58Speaker 2: people with what I rate them. And of course you
- 33:01Speaker 2: can find me here on the network with a show
- 33:03Speaker 2: that I find to be delightful because of course I'm
- 33:05Speaker 2: biased because I'm on it. I'm on it with Tristan
- 33:08Speaker 2: Riddell and Darren Moser. It's called house Lights. We look
- 33:10Speaker 2: at the work of directors and characters and you know
- 33:14Speaker 2: what if we play fast and lose with the rules,
- 33:16Speaker 2: but that's because we have a lot of fun with them.
- 33:18Speaker 3: So go on over there. But Matt, I have to
- 33:21Speaker 3: make sure that the.
- 33:24Speaker 2: The beacon blocker is on back at my room so
- 33:28Speaker 2: that I can avoid the Disney drones.
- 33:30Speaker 3: So I think it's time to close these negotiations.
- 33:33Speaker 5: John, negotiations are closed.
- 33:42Speaker 3: What's that buzzing sound?
- 33:46Speaker 4: Join the Revolution, Join the nerd Party.
