- 0:00Our number 2. Welcome back, Miller and Condon.
- 0:02Iowa Sports Radio Network take you new till 2O clock off the
- 0:07bench at that time. Lucas, Sean, come in here.
- 0:09Take you until 5. Let's head to Chicago.
- 0:11David Kaplan joins us. Sponsored every single week by
- 0:15our friends at Centurion Stone of Iowa.
- 0:17Centurion Stone of Iowa sponsors Cappy.
- 0:19More about them coming up here capturing Ken.
- 0:21Thanks for coming on. How are you?
- 0:23How's your sanity cap? How are you?
- 0:25How are you handling this 10 game slide that the Cubs are
- 0:28currently in the midst of? I mean, my sanity is good.
- 0:32I just tell the truth every day and I'm sure it doesn't make
- 0:35people happy when I, you know, RIP on the team and the
- 0:40management management and the manager and marquee.
- 0:46Like there's so much to unpack. Like, you know, I said on the
- 0:50radio this morning, I watched two stupid fundamental plays
- 0:55yesterday early in the game and immediately knew their heads not
- 0:59in it. Now, maybe it's they're pressing
- 1:01too tightly. Maybe, but Pete core Armstrong
- 1:05comes up throwing on a base hit Connor Griffin trying to go 1st
- 1:09to 3rd and Pete has a really good arm.
- 1:12Connor Griffin is fast. He not only airmails the cut off
- 1:17man, he airmails third base. But now the guy that got the
- 1:20single is in scoring position because he goes in the second.
- 1:23Now it's second and third, nobody out.
- 1:26And I went, what are we doing here?
- 1:28I mean, we got to be smart about this.
- 1:31And of course those two runs end up scoring on a hit by Brian
- 1:36Reynolds. They get another hit and then
- 1:38they get a home run and it's 5 nothing and basically the game
- 1:41is over at that point. But in the second, Bregman hits
- 1:45a double off the wall, Ian Hap gets a double, and then fly ball
- 1:49the right field. And if you can't guarantee me
- 1:53that you're going to make it to 3rd, why are you tagging up at
- 1:572nd and you get gunned down? I mean it wasn't like they
- 2:01challenged it and lost. He got thrown out.
- 2:04There was no challenge. You're out and now instead of
- 2:07man at second and one out and a base hit is going to make it 5,
- 2:13two and maybe give you a little life, you got 2 outs and nobody
- 2:17on inning over basically and the next guy made it out.
- 2:21Like those are just stupid, dumb, idiotic mental mistakes.
- 2:27Those are not physical. You could say the throw from PCA
- 2:32airmailing third, OK, that part of its physical, the decision to
- 2:35make the throw and to miss the cut off, man, that is a stupid
- 2:40mental error. A bad baseball play.
- 2:43Ian Hap. That's just a dumb play.
- 2:46Dumb. You don't do it.
- 2:48And does the manager do anything about it?
- 2:51No, those guys I'm sure will be in the line up tonight.
- 2:54AB does he say anything in the post game?
- 2:57Nope. Does he air him out the dugout?
- 3:00Nope. But yet I watch the mentor, Pat
- 3:04Murphy, his mentor who we played for, I watched him last night
- 3:08after your eBay acts like a complete clown when he got the
- 3:13last out and he said I'm going to talk to him about it.
- 3:17That is ridiculous. That's not how we play.
- 3:20You think Craig Council would ever do that?
- 3:22Nope, we can't be afraid. We got to be afraid to ruffle
- 3:26feathers around here. Are you kidding me?
- 3:29I mean, what is going on here, man?
- 3:31The inmates running the asylum. It's a Beyond the Pale and then
- 3:36on Marquee, and I love Boog, I'm a friend of his, but I also am
- 3:40going to tell the truth. Jim Deshea's, Taylor, Rick, love
- 3:44all those people. Whoever's making the decision
- 3:47that we would need to learn about Shota Imanaga's rice
- 3:50cooker that he bought on Amazon or the Nacho thing in Texas.
- 3:57As a fan, I don't give a flying RIP.
- 4:00I want to know why did the Brewers swing at the first pitch
- 4:0314 in the 1st 6 steam batters against the managa.
- 4:07Why don't you give me something on that?
- 4:08Because that's talking baseball. Or why when there's first and
- 4:123rd and you're trying to stay in a game against Milwaukee and the
- 4:15guy on first tries to steal, Why is Carson Kelly throwing
- 4:19through? And only because Dansby was able
- 4:21to be a wizard to keep the ball in the dirt from getting into
- 4:24the outfield to give him another run.
- 4:26Why are you throwing through? How about give me something on
- 4:29that talk? Freaking baseball.
- 4:31Sorry to go off. On No, listen, you're preaching
- 4:33the choir. I feel the same way.
- 4:36I mean, I watched them at the Mets broadcast and Ron Darlings
- 4:38ripping Mendoza because he just left these guys.
- 4:41I loved it. Absolutely did.
- 4:42You're not going to hear that on Marquis.
- 4:44You know what the story on Marquis was yesterday?
- 4:46Dansby Swanson changed his socks.
- 4:48He's not wearing the high socks. He's he's not.
- 4:51He's got the pants coming right down to the shoe tops.
- 4:54That's what I got out of Marquis.
- 4:55It drives me crazy that no one is willing to be critical when
- 5:00critical and then when you need to be, when you've got a chance
- 5:03to do so, to go ahead and do it. And they don't, and it pisses me
- 5:07off. Yeah, and here's the other
- 5:09thing. I got to listen to Elise
- 5:11Maniker, who I'm sure is a lovely person.
- 5:13I've never met her. This is not a criticism of her
- 5:17abilities. It's decision.
- 5:19No, she's good. I'm with you.
- 5:21We got an update on Justin Steele.
- 5:24Good news on Justin Steele. The doctor today cleared him to
- 5:29start strengthening his arm. No plan yet that he's getting
- 5:33back up on a mountain. That's not good news.
- 5:36You need a starting pitcher like a starving man needs a sandwich.
- 5:40And you're telling me it's good news that a guy that's more than
- 5:44a year past his surgery, it's good news that you're going to
- 5:48let him strengthen his arm a little bit, but no plan yet to
- 5:52get him up on a mound? I don't need to hear that.
- 5:55Don't spin it for me. Tell me the freaking truth.
- 5:58Well, we got a report on Justin Steele.
- 6:01Maybe not as encouraging as we hoped, but maybe a step in the
- 6:04right direction. I don't need you to spoon feed
- 6:08me this nonsense. Outside of Carson Kelly and
- 6:12Bregman, everybody's been awful hitting the ball for the better
- 6:14part of two weeks. You bring up a Contra, and I get
- 6:17it, His strikeout rates huge. Is he going to turn into a great
- 6:20Major League player? Who knows.
- 6:22But you have somebody that was at least hot, you bring them up
- 6:25there to sit on the bench when you're struggling like this.
- 6:28That's the part Ken and I go back and forth about.
- 6:30Managers. He loves to kill managers.
- 6:33There's only so many times, I think you say try harder, but
- 6:35that aside, you have a guy that was hot that could swing the bat
- 6:40and your whole team's not swinging it.
- 6:41It just is baffling to me that this guy can't get at bats when
- 6:45they're struggling up and down the lineup.
- 6:48Yeah, I'm with you 100%. I said today, what is Kevin
- 6:52Alcantra here for the sample the fair on the team charter and
- 6:57give us food reviews. Why did you bring him up?
- 7:01For what possible reason? I have to have Ian Hap back in
- 7:05the lineup. I got to have sale and then I
- 7:07listen to the manager say, well, you never know when your best
- 7:11players are going to break out of it.
- 7:12So you just keep running them out there.
- 7:14That's that's garbage. That is a that is the mentality
- 7:18of a loser. No, how about doing something
- 7:21bold when PCA does what he does? How about something Super Bowl
- 7:26where you go, Pete, take the rest of the night off and when
- 7:29somebody goes, why did you pull Pete in the first inning?
- 7:32After the first inning, I'm not saying to go Bobby Cox and go
- 7:36out on the field, but at the end of the inning, you're done for
- 7:39the night. We're not going to miss cut off
- 7:41men anymore and you'll remember it.
- 7:43And I'm going to tell the media exactly why we don't do that
- 7:47stuff. And I drives me insane.
- 7:50That's not personally attacking somebody.
- 7:53Hey, Craig, first inning, you, the PCA didn't come out for the
- 7:56second. Is he OK?
- 7:57He's fine. That was a message that we are
- 8:00done missing cut off men and making fundamental mistakes,
- 8:05period. We work on this stuff at spring
- 8:07training. I'm not going to tolerate it.
- 8:10We've lost 10 ball games in a row and enough is enough.
- 8:14I'm putting my foot down. I would be leading the cheers
- 8:17from the top of the Sears Tower. How are they going to work
- 8:20themselves out of this cap knowing that Cabrera, I guess
- 8:23Boyd's making apparently going to start on Sunday in his rehab.
- 8:28Cabrera's gone for a couple of weeks.
- 8:30Tion's asked to to stem the tide tonight.
- 8:33I mean, and, and with the ineptitude in the batter's box,
- 8:36how's this thing going to come to an end?
- 8:40I wish I knew. I really, really mean that.
- 8:43I don't know how you get this thing back on track.
- 8:48I don't get it. I don't understand what they're
- 8:52doing. I don't mean you bring Ramirez
- 8:56up, OK, He got a couple of games.
- 8:58He had a hit in both games. And then we've got to play the
- 9:01veteran guys. I'd like a veteran to step up
- 9:05and I mean, say enough's enough. Ride me, get me up in a big hit
- 9:10in a big spot opportunity and I'm going to deliver.
- 9:13Guess what? Get find me a reliever that says
- 9:16I'll take that guy. Put me in there right now.
- 9:18I'm going to shut this thing down.
- 9:20Jordan Wicks, you got your first opportunity of the season.
- 9:24What a great chance to go. Wow, they got 6 shut out innings
- 9:28out of Jordan Wicks. Nope.
- 9:30First guy up. What did he walk him on 4
- 9:33pitches? I mean, are we kidding?
- 9:36God it drives me insane. 5 Nothing at the end of 1 and it
- 9:39got worse from there. And.
- 9:42Ball game over. Monday I was telling Ken
- 9:44yesterday I was watching Monday I got into the game late.
- 9:46It was like the 7th inning someone run game and just the
- 9:49non competitive at bats the the want.
- 9:52That's the part that you just left scratching your head is I
- 9:55get it, it's 162, it's a marathon of a season.
- 9:58But the non competitive at bats cap.
- 10:01I'm not a fan of the Cubs, but just watching them, that drove
- 10:03me crazy on Monday. How does that happen at the
- 10:05Major League level? I know you're going to get 600
- 10:07at bats. It's going to be some of those
- 10:09that just aren't. You're not completely there.
- 10:11That's the baffling part to me. When you're struggling like
- 10:13this, who is the leader? Who is the guy that you point to
- 10:16in that clubhouse? Well, I mean, you paid Alex
- 10:20Bregman to be a leader. You.
- 10:21Paid him last year. What's that?
- 10:24You should have paid them last year when the window was open.
- 10:26I think it's closed. I don't know.
- 10:29I mean, it's hard for me to say the windows closed when two
- 10:33weeks ago, go back and pull it up themlb.com power ranking,
- 10:37they were the number one team in baseball, number one and two
- 10:41weeks later the windows closed. I think it was closed.
- 10:43I think it was Fool's goal to begin cap.
- 10:45I do. I mean, it's hard for me to say
- 10:49it's fool's goal when you have 4/5 of your rotation on the
- 10:54injured list and you won two separate 10 game win streaks.
- 11:00You went 20 and three over a 23 game span.
- 11:04And now who are you starting? Colin Ray?
- 11:07Colin Ray was brought here, back here to be a spot starter and a
- 11:11long relief guy. I mean, it's just brutal right
- 11:14now to watch the Cubs. It's like a root canal.
- 11:18Yeah, I, I just, I mean, Milwaukee looks as though
- 11:21they're clearly the class of the division.
- 11:23I don't know if the Cardinals are sustainable.
- 11:26The Pirates are probably kind of like the the Cubs and the Reds.
- 11:29They're all going to kind of spin their wheels.
- 11:31Somebody's going to win 84 and 85 games.
- 11:34And look at the Brewers maybe back in.
- 11:35But I just thought last year they had a chance with all of
- 11:38the injuries and then they overcame steel last year.
- 11:41They had Kate Horton emerging last year.
- 11:43I just when you just it was if the the pitching staff, the
- 11:47starters starting pitching staff was held together by duct tape
- 11:50and I just don't think it was sustainable and it's and it's
- 11:52starting to show. I I hope it turns the corner.
- 11:55It's good for business here in the summertime when the Cubs are
- 11:58good, but man they are bad right now.
- 12:00There's is there on your show. Is there an outcry for council
- 12:04must go? Are they at that point?
- 12:07I wouldn't say that they're calling for Craig to be fired.
- 12:10There's some of that, but not like an overwhelming like, Oh my
- 12:14God, we got to fire this guy. But you know, at what point does
- 12:18some type of a change have to happen at some point?
- 12:22I mean, is it 15 games in a row? Is it 18 games in a row?
- 12:27I mean, you don't win tonight. Good luck tomorrow.
- 12:30The way this offense is hitting, you got Paul schemes.
- 12:34So and then you're going into you don't think they want to
- 12:37make a point. You play two of those.
- 12:40Games Saturday and Sunday on national TV, so good luck.
- 12:46South side of Town's been more fun, though not last night, even
- 12:49with Murakami hitting a home run to tie it and send it into extra
- 12:53innings. You know, I watched the last two
- 12:55games as you know, Cappy, I'm a Twins fan.
- 12:58Seeing the White Sox for now, would it be, I guess, 20 innings
- 13:02the last two days? Neither.
- 13:03These teams are very good, but the American League is so bad.
- 13:08Is there real hope for not just the White Sox, but the Twins and
- 13:11almost everybody else in this league that, hey, you can be a
- 13:14playoff team? That's how bad this league is.
- 13:17I would agree with that. Both those teams should have
- 13:20legitimate playoff aspirations. You know, somebody said to me
- 13:24today, well, if the Cubs could trade for Joe Ryan right now,
- 13:28would you do it? First of all, the price would be
- 13:31extreme. And if I dropped Joe Ryan, who
- 13:35was great last night until he gave up the Murakami Homer,
- 13:38maybe he shouldn't have been in there at that point.
- 13:40I don't know. OK Joe Ryan, every fifth day,
- 13:45great. Does that fix the Cubs offense?
- 13:49It does not. So I wouldn't make that trade
- 13:52right now if I was the Cubs. If I was the Twins, I wouldn't
- 13:55make the trade. You wouldn't.
- 13:56Either you're in, they legitimately could run Cleveland
- 13:59down and they could absolutely win a wild card.
- 14:02And then, you know, the Saint Louis Cardinals.
- 14:05I know that several years ago they won 83 games and won the
- 14:08World Series. You're telling me that could
- 14:09never happen again? I'll tell you.
- 14:11You're wrong. Did we maybe come into this
- 14:14year? I mean, Michael Bush had 34 home
- 14:17runs that was never going to be duplicated at least you mean
- 14:21not. He's a bad player.
- 14:22I like Michael Bush. I didn't think he was going to
- 14:24hit 34, say it drove in over 100 runs.
- 14:27Did we were maybe our expectations a little over the
- 14:30top with this team cap? I don't think so.
- 14:34Absolutely not. He won 92 games last year.
- 14:37They did. And why can't Michael Bush hit
- 14:3934 home runs again? Michael Bush could do that.
- 14:42I think he's a really good player.
- 14:43I. Like him?
- 14:46But Oh my God, to watch say as. Suzuki.
- 14:49Last year hit three O 2 I believe with men in scoring
- 14:52position. Guess what he's hitting right
- 14:55now? What is he 11?
- 14:57What? One O 4.
- 15:00Jesus. One O. 4 Biosteros needs to be
- 15:03on the next plane to Des Moines. I'm sorry, it's just not
- 15:06working. Maybe get down here, build your
- 15:08confidence up. He had a phenomenal April,
- 15:10looked like he was off to a terrific start.
- 15:12Now a lot of folks up opening up their app and trying to find
- 15:15National League rookie. Maybe that was just me, but it's
- 15:19just not happening for Biosteros cap.
- 15:23No, but I wouldn't say he looks overmatched.
- 15:25He's just, it is what it is. Everybody's in a slump.
- 15:30I don't know who you're replacing them with, but I would
- 15:32absolutely get Kevin Alcantra in the lineup tonight.
- 15:37I'm not sure Craig will. Let me give you a crazy stat.
- 15:40I tweeted this a little bit ago. The Chicago Cubs have not won a
- 15:45game and Sam Sionis, the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern and
- 15:49Grill, died May 15th. And since White Sox bride and
- 15:52PCA had the hat at it, note in in right center at at Guarantee
- 15:58Rate Park. That's a lot of curses, A lot
- 16:00of. Curses.
- 16:01Speaking of curses, the Chicago Bears stadium situation cap fill
- 16:07us in. What we got four days left here
- 16:09on the session for the legislature.
- 16:11I saw Front Office Sports had a big article about the quote UN
- 16:14quote tax break that is going to go the Bears way if all this
- 16:17passes. Just fill us in on the details
- 16:19here. We're trying to get this thing
- 16:20figured out and another one that kind of makes your head hurt.
- 16:24Yeah, I, I, I still can't believe they're going to end up
- 16:29in Hammond, IN. And again, this is not a shot at
- 16:32the people of Hammond IN. That place is a dump.
- 16:35I mean no build a stadium on a slag heap with oil refineries
- 16:41around it with toxic waste in the area.
- 16:44No, I'll believe it when I see it.
- 16:47And if they do, build their shame on both sides for not
- 16:52getting a deal done in the state and it will be the dumbest
- 16:55business decision I've seen the Bears make.
- 16:57That's why they haven't run to the Indiana deal.
- 17:00They haven't. They could.
- 17:02Three months ago they could have said, hey, that's a great deal.
- 17:05We're taking it, we're out, see you later.
- 17:07Why didn't they? Because they don't want to be
- 17:09there. Now I agree with you.
- 17:10Is there anything around the area cap?
- 17:12Is there a bunch of like bars, restaurants, hotels?
- 17:15Or is that just a no? It's just a deserted piece of
- 17:18land, essentially. I mean, there's a few things in
- 17:22the area, but it's just they have to come up with all the
- 17:24infrastructure. They got to come up with all
- 17:26the, you know, stuff you'd build around a state that is so many
- 17:30years away from being a reality. No.
- 17:34Arlington Heights, different story.
- 17:37Is there an outcry from people of Arlington Heights with these
- 17:41tax breaks and, and what it could mean to them financially
- 17:44or? No, they want this state.
- 17:46They want it. Oh, definitely.
- 17:49OK, but again, you've got Brandon Johnson, the least
- 17:55popular mayor in the history of the city and one of the least
- 17:58popular politicians in the history of the country.
- 18:03Brandon Johnson saying I'd rather they go to Hammond then
- 18:06come to Arlington Heights because we could still get
- 18:09people that want to stay in the city and get some of the tax
- 18:12benefits of people spending money in Chicago.
- 18:16I. This guy drives me insane, and
- 18:19I'm not talking about politically because I don't live
- 18:21in the city. Whether I would vote for him or
- 18:23not is irrelevant. I wouldn't.
- 18:25But I just don't understand how the governor here and the
- 18:31politicians here let the teachers union and this
- 18:35ridiculously bad mayor get involved to the point where
- 18:39we're getting to the 11th hour here.
- 18:41You better figure this thing out.
- 18:43All right. Is Mccaskey starting to lose
- 18:46faith in Kevin Warner? Have we already passed that?
- 18:50I see. I give Kevin a ton of credit, a
- 18:53ton of credit for the way the Bears run their business.
- 18:57Now, you know, you've got, if you look at what the Bears were
- 19:04when Dan Quinn's coming in the interview and he's flying in the
- 19:08middle seat in the back row of a Southwest plane.
- 19:12I mean, really, we're going to bring him in, in the middle seat
- 19:16in coach. C50 and Quinn.
- 19:20Yeah, we're 31 other teams, either their owner owns a plane
- 19:25or they have a net jet account and we're buying coach seats.
- 19:28What are we doing here? And they've moved past that.
- 19:31Now they have the charter account and they do things first
- 19:36class. And when Ben Johnson said I'll
- 19:39take the Bears job, but it's going to cost you 13 million a
- 19:43year. And I'm bringing Dennis Allen is
- 19:45my defense coordinator and that's another 5 million a year.
- 19:48And I want Dan Rauscher to be the offensive line coach and
- 19:52that's north of a million. And I want this guy and I want
- 19:55that guy. Guess what?
- 19:57Kevin got it done. So the way they do their
- 19:59business, I give a lot of credit to Kevin Warren, but he.
- 20:03It also brought here to build the stadium and what are we
- 20:06north of three years into it, it doesn't appear like we're much
- 20:09closer. So that he also has to have on
- 20:12his Ledger. OTAs for the bears coming up,
- 20:15what is maybe the biggest question that you have, the
- 20:18thing that you're looking to find out when OTAs get started?
- 20:23The biggest thing I want to see is how Caleb looks in terms of
- 20:26control of the offense. We just had Tyson Beijing here
- 20:30in our recap studio and you can find it on our social media, on
- 20:35Instagram. And he literally said to a
- 20:38question, what's the most impressive thing you've seen
- 20:41about Caleb over the last 12 months?
- 20:44I thought he was going to say, well, let's throw against the
- 20:46Rams or all the comebacks or, you know, the throat of John A
- 20:50Walker off his back foot or finding DJ or whatever it was.
- 20:55He said, oh, by far the last 30 days looked at him.
- 20:59He said, Oh yeah, that guy is in such great control of the
- 21:03building. He is challenging guys in the
- 21:06weight room. His leadership is off the chain,
- 21:09how good it is, he said. So yeah, the last month I've
- 21:12seen a different guy. I think that's super cool.

- 22:48He covers the fever, covers the WNBA at Fieldhouse Files at
- 22:54Fieldhouse Files for Scott Agnew, Scott Agnes Rather and he
- 22:58joins the program. Scott Trenton, Ken, thanks for
- 23:01coming on. Appreciate it.
- 23:02How are you? Doing well, all good, I hear in
- 23:06Indy coming off the Indianapolis 500, where Caitlin Clark played
- 23:09a small role while also attending her first time there
- 23:12at the track. So for people that have it on
- 23:14their bucket list and we'll get into the West in just a second,
- 23:17but you're right with the calendar we just saw, it was an
- 23:20unbelievable finish. I felt terrible for the dude
- 23:23that got beat right at the wire. But what what's the city like
- 23:28the week leading up to it? When does it start to really
- 23:30take a hold? And obviously that 10s of
- 23:33thousands of people, people that make their way to that event,
- 23:36it's just got to be nuts. We don't have an official count,
- 23:40but they put the number around 350,000.
- 23:45So it is major. Think Super Bowl.
- 23:48I think 4 * a Super Bowl. It's the largest single sporting
- 23:52event in the world. So here, and I'm obviously I'll
- 23:55admit my bias, I'm from central IN so I grew up going to the
- 23:58race. I've covered it the last 15
- 24:00years. It's the if you love the
- 24:02Wimbledon, if you love the Master and all those with great
- 24:06pageantry, Oh, believe me, you'll love all of this.
- 24:09And then you mentioned the closest finish in race history,
- 24:12the most passes for the lead in race history.
- 24:15And this is 110th running. So the part that Caitlin I can
- 24:18highlight that is the is arguably the best.
- 24:21It's the pre race ceremonies where there's regular items year
- 24:26after year that go on leading up to the spectacle.
- 24:29And one of the other things that makes a different unique
- 24:31whatever is there's fans, there's media, there's people
- 24:36surrounding the cars like 5 minutes before they start their
- 24:40engine. Like Can you imagine going to
- 24:42the NBA Finals here coming up or whatever and you know, you know,
- 24:46and shade Gill just Alexander's drinking a Gatorade and getting
- 24:50ready for the game and you're just in the room like no, of
- 24:52course not. And so these guys are going over
- 24:55240 mph, there's almost 350,000 people there.
- 25:00And it really gets started two weeks ahead of time.
- 25:02So right around May 15th. Now it used to be a full month,
- 25:05but they condensed it to to the last two weeks and you see flags
- 25:09everywhere. It's a significant community
- 25:13event here in town and across the state.
- 25:15So, so one more on this. I I know that being to the
- 25:18Kentucky Derby, you know, when you're if you're there Thursday,
- 25:22you have to buy, you have to rent your room.
- 25:24It's like a three night minimum, right?
- 25:25Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Is that the same in Indianapolis
- 25:29of the are they gouging you like that hotels that way?
- 25:33I'm sure they are. Obviously I've never looked
- 25:35here, but yeah, absolutely. There's definitely some
- 25:37minimums. They're sold out and people are
- 25:39staying all over too. And and get this, this will add
- 25:42some context. The race green flag at 12:45
- 25:45Eastern Time. Guys, I arrived at the media
- 25:48outside parking lot at 5:45 AM. Sold or not sold out?
- 25:54It was already filled. Media lot filled.
- 25:56They were sending me to an alternative parking lot and it
- 26:00wasn't even 6:00 AM, more than six hours before the race starts
- 26:03because it is all day festivities.
- 26:06Normally the race is blacked out in town.
- 26:07The last two years, yeah, that's been a tradition that none of us
- 26:12have really liked, although it's created different things.
- 26:15So for example, how I grew up, as you go to the race and then
- 26:19come home, grab a pizza and watch it then on TV as it airs,
- 26:23re airs that you know, 7:00 in prime time.
- 26:26But now that when it's entirely sold out, the grandstands, at
- 26:29least you can fill the infield as much as you want.
- 26:32It's 2 1/2 miles. As long as that's sold out, they
- 26:34do agree to lift the local block out.
- 26:36I hope that's the one annotated tradition that I hope is
- 26:40discontinued. Definitely on my bucket list and
- 26:43remember you have to my dad, my uncles, grandpa, they all went
- 26:46out there and talked about just not just the race, but the party
- 26:50that goes along with it. And it definitely sounds like a
- 26:53fun time dive out there in Indy. Well, it's been an interesting
- 26:56week for the Fever with this week off.
- 26:59It's early in the season. Did it come at a good time?
- 27:01Caitlin was dealing with the back injury, got slapped on the
- 27:05wrist. The Fever did with the injury
- 27:06report and her not showing up until later on. 90 minutes
- 27:09before tip. Yes, absolutely.
- 27:11Just overall this week off, good thing for the squad.
- 27:15It was because it mostly because they did just had a condensed
- 27:19schedule, five games, 10 days that included a one off bizarre
- 27:23trip all the way out to Los Angeles and back, which anyone
- 27:27that knows like you're you're trying to reset for a couple of
- 27:30days. No, they had a game after one
- 27:32day of travel. Like they arrived back at 7:00
- 27:34AM that night and certain things like that and they played a
- 27:37couple really good teams at the front end, couple of the bottom,
- 27:42bottom more teams in the back end.
- 27:44But yeah, for them to have five days between games at any time
- 27:48is appreciated because it is so rare.
- 27:50But I think it was an ideal time because they had gotten a couple
- 27:54weeks of games under their belt. They had gotten most of their
- 27:59players back and healthy after several players were limited in
- 28:03training camp. And And so now you're starting
- 28:05to see, I think the team take off.
- 28:07They're seeing the offense they're wanting.
- 28:08The defense has improved. Well, about a little more than
- 28:12half the roster was returning from last season.
- 28:14Still a lot of newcomers. And so there, it's going to take
- 28:18time. And so I think this combination
- 28:20of rest and two practice days and three practice days,
- 28:24including today out in San Francisco, we'll set them up
- 28:27nicely. Now to resume again tomorrow at
- 28:30Golden State. Is Caitlin 100%, you know,
- 28:33obviously the groin last year in the back this year, is she close
- 28:37to 100% or is she fine? What would you say watching her?
- 28:41We're able to go back to a rookie season.
- 28:43What you saw of her last year and then so far this year, Is
- 28:45she 100% do you think, Scott? Yeah.
- 28:48So last year the trouble was it was so many different things
- 28:51starting from the second day of training camp.
- 28:53I remember her being a little bit limited with a leg issue,
- 28:56and it was the ankle injury that I reported that kind of kept her
- 28:59out the final couple of months, an injury that occurred while
- 29:02trying to ramp up from that groin injury.
- 29:05She said in December at USA Basketball training camp at held
- 29:09a Duke that she was 100% physically, no limitations,
- 29:13could do whatever. But what she's admitted here in
- 29:16the last month or two, really starting with when they played
- 29:20in that qualifying tournament is she's feeling nerves and
- 29:24questioning herself and there's some mental challenges like
- 29:27she's a player, admittedly doesn't get nervous before
- 29:29games. She's a player that doesn't
- 29:31listen to music before games. She doesn't need a pump up.
- 29:33She's ready to go. All those different things that
- 29:35most people, including myself love to do, she does not.
- 29:39It's her sanctuary, but I think she's at the point after last
- 29:42season where she is probably an over thinker and, and hyper
- 29:46aware of every little thing that she might be feeling, even if
- 29:50some of it's natural or, or whatever.
- 29:52And so I think a lot of what the back becomes is her wondering if
- 29:56it is something or is it not, or is it natural or is it just a
- 29:59hard fall, all those different things.
- 30:02So I think that from physically I think she'd tell you she's
- 30:05100% but 100% back. No, not quite yet.
- 30:09Aaliyah Boston's a little bit more to her game this season.
- 30:12You see the rain, she's been able to shoot a little bit but
- 30:15feels like more comfortable out there.
- 30:17The passing I think has come a long ways from her.
- 30:19When you talk about still more upside, is there still another
- 30:23tier that Aaliyah Boston can get to?
- 30:25Absolutely. Yeah, I think so.
- 30:27And Caitlin, too. I mean, she's just 24.
- 30:29We I think sometimes because she's been in an in, you know,
- 30:32all of our TV's the last five years and is one of the best
- 30:35players already in the league. People forget she was top five
- 30:38in MVP voting her rookie year, which is incredible for any type
- 30:43of player to do no matter the league.
- 30:45And, and with, with Aaliyah Paulson in particular, I think
- 30:48she's she prepared herself better than any season before
- 30:52because she knew exactly what to expect With Stephanie White
- 30:55coming into her second year with this coaching staff paired
- 30:58alongside with Caitlin, she got incredible shape, I believe down
- 31:01and unrivaled had a really good performance down there until she
- 31:05was dealing with a minor knee injury that kept her out of the
- 31:08championship in semifinals down there.
- 31:10But I, I think her touch her, her ability to finish.
- 31:14And then for her, the number one thing, believe it or not,
- 31:17Stephanie White pre season, when asked about, you know, what do
- 31:19you want to see from Boston? We know mostly what she can do
- 31:22what she said if I wanted to take more 3.
- 31:25And so I think what we're seeing her is just doing what the
- 31:28coaches tell her. And so when the opportunity is
- 31:30there, she's got to fire away. And, and there's been some ups
- 31:33and downs, right? Last game she had a nasty air
- 31:35ball, but she's also made it at A at a reasonable clip and the
- 31:39data will tell tell them that making threes at a good clip is
- 31:43better than, you know, those those mid range shots.
- 31:46And so the other thing is they can play her as a hub.
- 31:49Certainly want to play some pick and roll with Caitlin, which is
- 31:51nearly unstoppable because it's pick your poison there.
- 31:54Either you leave Boston cutting to the basket or Caitlin wide
- 31:57open for a logo 3. So those are the challenges they
- 32:00can establish. And then you got Sophie
- 32:02Cunningham on a wing. Kelsey Mitchell's good for 20
- 32:05points per game. And then you string that into
- 32:07getting stops. And that's where this team's
- 32:09most deadly. All doing her job doing that
- 32:12getting stopped playing her defensive role.
- 32:14So I want to ask you this, Scott, because you're there and
- 32:16I hear a lot of the Caitlin defenders and I'm one of them,
- 32:19but I'm not national. Obviously some of the national
- 32:22media truly believes that that Indiana is doing all they can to
- 32:27run Caitlin out of town and when she gets her opportunity she's
- 32:31not she's going to leave the fever and sign somewhere else.
- 32:34Is that is that I guess palpable from where you sit.
- 32:38Can you feel that that there's a chance that Caitlin doesn't
- 32:42remain a member of the Fever once he gets that opportunity?
- 32:45Or is that just national media trying to, you know, get
- 32:48involved when they shouldn't be putting their nose into that
- 32:51business? I think that's among the wild
- 32:54conspiracy theorists that have come out there, including some
- 32:58that have said Caitlin was suspended for the last No, she
- 33:00was not. She has a great relationship
- 33:02with Stephanie White. Those around them think they are
- 33:05twins and how they react and their sarcasm and their
- 33:07sassiness and their and and how they command A room all these
- 33:10different ways. No, one of the biggest issues I
- 33:14felt on this beat more than anything is the wild theories
- 33:17and things that just have no legs to them whatsoever.
- 33:21But it really seems to grab conversation and then people
- 33:24talk about it and then it becomes a nasty game of
- 33:27telephone. But I do not feel that
- 33:28whatsoever. The leak as a whole, fever good
- 33:33start, four and two. But the WNBA for the better part
- 33:37of, I don't know, well, basically the 25 years of
- 33:39existence feels like there's maybe a couple of teams in this
- 33:42top tier and then everybody else.
- 33:44Is this league more open this year?
- 33:46Are there a bigger swath of teams that can ultimately win a
- 33:49championship? Is this as open as it's been
- 33:51recently? Yeah, that's a good point
- 33:54because I think that's that's an example of the way in which this
- 33:57game, this league has evolved for the better because you're
- 34:00exactly right. I mean, up until probably 3 or 4
- 34:03years ago, it was a two or three team league, right?
- 34:06Like you kind of knew what, what were the three teams that were
- 34:10being contention and worse than that, you do the five that had
- 34:13no change that were just going along.
- 34:15And, and until Caitlin and Aaliyah Boston to got here, the
- 34:19fever were very much in that they'd win five games, six
- 34:22games. They were playing in front of
- 34:241000 fans or 1500 fans. Caitlin always loves to recall
- 34:27the story of when she first got here.
- 34:30Before she got here, there was 1 concession stand open, right?
- 34:34Like, and there must be 40 of them now.
- 34:36Like there just wasn't a demand. So I think the tide has risen at
- 34:41all these different levels to the point where there is great
- 34:45competitive balance here. I mean, there's really like one
- 34:48or two teams you don't I think highly of right now,
- 34:51Connecticut, but obviously they're transitioning to Houston
- 34:54next season. But at at the top, I think,
- 34:57yeah, it's really good. There's about four or five teams
- 34:59you feel really good about and anybody.
- 35:03We've also seen a lot of upsets here in the early going, so I
- 35:06think that speaks to the the evolution of this league and
- 35:09more players going in different players places as well.
- 35:13So let's Fast forward to tomorrow night.
- 35:15We'll get the rematch. It got a little testy at the end
- 35:18of it and then subsequent to that continue to ratchet up on
- 35:22on Tiffany's part. Tiffany Hayes.
- 35:25So what do we expect tomorrow night?
- 35:28Do do you expect more of this? Will it be a very a physical
- 35:32game between those two? I mean, I think Caitlin thrives
- 35:35on that. I don't think that Hayes was was
- 35:38too happy about being the brunt of that and the reason seemingly
- 35:42Caitlin went off. What do you expect tomorrow
- 35:44night between the Valkyries and the Fever?
- 35:46Is this going to be a a nasty game and something that
- 35:49appointment TV? Yeah, I would expect more of the
- 35:53same. These two are competitive groups
- 35:55and I I saw for the most part it was just competitors out there
- 35:58playing hard, wanting to get the best of one another.
- 36:00Yeah, I got a little chippy, a little edgy and to some extent
- 36:03you like that. It means they care if they want
- 36:05to win the game. It's if there is a line crossed,
- 36:08right. Like I think we saw at half time
- 36:10Clark took exception to to whatever, I think it was an
- 36:14elbow thrown away or something on a rebound.
- 36:16I remember and she said don't do that, we don't need that or
- 36:18don't do that outside of those. I mean that that is good.
- 36:22It takes me back to the old days of the Fever, Detroit shock days
- 36:25where they didn't really like each other.
- 36:27They respected the hell out of each other and you knew every
- 36:29game was going to be a physical battle.
- 36:32Now, one of the biggest takeaways to me here, guys, over
- 36:36the first couple of weeks has been the way in which the game
- 36:39is officiated. And that's something better
- 36:42trying to improve upon. I think that's making steady
- 36:44progress. I do in that they're not,
- 36:48they're allowing more freedom of movement, something they did not
- 36:51in years past. And if you do that, the better
- 36:53players are going to have better performances and certainly help
- 36:56Caitlin because it allows her to drive to the basket and get
- 36:59rewarded for that. She'd go to the free throw line
- 37:01is perfect at the free throw line, which is remarkable, but
- 37:04also not surprising. And and so it's a matter of
- 37:07finding, striking the right balance between setting the tone
- 37:10and enforcing the rules and calling it consistently while
- 37:14also embracing some of the physicality in in these
- 37:17competitive battles that make these players great pros.
- 37:21Yeah, I watched Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin.
- 37:23Caitlin was praising the officiation.
- 37:25Sophie was. Yeah.
- 37:27That was awesome. Scott.
- 37:28Agnes at Fieldhouse Files. Scott, thanks for doing what you
- 37:31do for Trent and I here and pop it on on occasion when we get
- 37:36caught up in the WNBA Fun League to be covering.
- 37:39Good stuff. Scott.
- 37:40Agnes, thank you, man. I appreciate.
- 37:41We'll talk to you down the road. You're welcome.
- 37:44That sounds great. Thanks guys.
- 37:45Thank you, Scott, Agnes, as we check in on the Fever and the
- 37:48WNBA, you watching much of it. Not much.
- 37:52I fever. Yeah, that's about it.
- 37:55Me too, me too. Once things slow down, though,
- 37:58once we get past the NBA and the NHL, the.
- 38:01Winter sports have crowned their champs.
- 38:03And the twins are staying. They're a playoff team.
- 38:07A playoff. Team and that means that yes,
- 38:11more TV time is being dedicated. They're not good.
- 38:14They're not good. Neither are the White Sox.
- 38:16No, Sean tries to. He's one of those fans of tries
- 38:19to kid themselves. Like you can still be a fan of
- 38:21your team and actually look at things realistically.
- 38:23But it's not a Good Hope. It continues, at least for a few
- 38:26more weeks. Oh absolutely, get some hope.
- 38:28Get to July. Get to August into football
- 38:31season there. You go.
- 38:31That was the magic words. Football season transplays the
- 38:34day they're next. Another winning day yesterday,
- 38:37four and two. Let's see what his props are
- 38:39this afternoon into this evening's games.
- 38:42Miller and Condon, Iowa Sports Radio Network Hi, Miller and
- 38:45Condon, welcome back. Final couple of minutes of our
- 38:47program off the bench coming up from 2 until five.
- 38:51Guessing the boys will have some fun with the college football TV
- 38:55kick off time. You're so I am pissed off.
- 38:58Yes, you know how much I love schedules.
- 39:01I know you do this. Is my last year.
- 39:04Couldn't they just released it at 10 AM like they have and?
- 39:06It's just a Cyhawk game. I mean, I mean, the other ones
- 39:09are OK, but yeah, what time? Cyhawk kick and I love.
- 39:12You know how I told you about this game?
- 39:13I hope you're right. I hope it's a night game.
- 39:16I hope it's a night game. I hope this game is played every
- 39:18single. Year you gonna come in and do a
- 39:20segment Cyhawk week? Well, I don't know.
- 39:23Maybe I do love the game team. I know you do.
- 39:26I do feel about it. You're a big proponent.
- 39:28I am 630 NBC. Let's go with it.
- 39:33Let's go. With it, lock it in.
- 39:34Lock it in. What are we going to lock in as
- 39:36far as your picks, four and two? You said yesterday that was your
- 39:38finishing total. Your props were good.
- 39:41No basketball tonight, one NHL game.
- 39:45Lot of day. Baseball today.
- 39:47What are you going to bet? So we got 2 picks in individual
- 39:50games. Of course the best price comes
- 39:52at Circa. I'm going to take the Reds plus
- 39:56one O 5 against the Mets. For the Mets, what a disaster.
- 40:01And Abbott's on the mound. Who's OK for the Reds?
- 40:03I like him. Yeah, I do too.
- 40:04Yeah, he's good. Andrew Abbott.
- 40:05Yep. And.
- 40:06I'm taking the Canadians plus 128 now.
- 40:09The big books out there plus 115 + 128 again.
- 40:15Why you need to download the Circus?
- 40:17Sports tie the series at 2 apiece.
- 40:19And then we jump over to our friends with unjust unjust dot
- 40:22bet and I got 4 props any. Hockey.
- 40:27Props, No hockey props. They do have them.
- 40:29They do, but I did not jump aboard on that.
- 40:31I'm going to start Christopher Sanchez over 6 1/2 strikeouts.
- 40:35That will be coming up this afternoon at 310.
- 40:38Sabali, who is one of the big acquisitions for New York in the
- 40:42WNBA. She has been inconsistent in her
- 40:45first couple of games over 13 1/2 points.
- 40:47I think she puts it together tonight, Aaron Judge over 1 1/2
- 40:51total bases and we're going back to the well again with Jordan
- 40:53Alvarez over 1 1/2 bases, so. And he had eight yesterday.
- 40:57He had eight yesterday. Yes, probably will come down
- 41:00from that total, but just need to get 2 and we'll hit that one.
- 41:03Sanchez over strikeouts, Sibali over points and over total bases
- 41:07for Judge and Alvarez 30% off right now.
- 41:10Use the code KX and O at unjust dot bet if you are interested in
- 41:14hitting these player props that have been very good to me.

- 41:27others, and that's OK. Sure it is.

- 41:34There this. Evening, yes. 640 I know nothing
- 41:38about your starting pitcher. Kind of Prelip he's he's like
