- 0:02I sought that old yoten, now safe and my back.
- 0:06Little served my silence there, but whispering many soft
- 0:10speeches, I won my desire in Sutung's hall.
- 0:16I bored me a road there with Roddy's Tusk, and made room to
- 0:20pass through the rock. While the ways of the yoten
- 0:23stretched over and under. I dared my life for a draft Twas
- 0:28Gunloth, who gave me on a golden throne a draft of the glorious
- 0:33Mead, but with poor reward that I pay her back for her true and
- 0:38troubled heart. In a wily disguise I worked my
- 0:42will. Little is lacking to the wise

- 4:40for us today. I'm going to get into that here
- 4:44in just a minute, but I do want to kind of share with all of you
- 4:48that here soon in about just less than a month.
- 4:50So October 4th, which is a Saturday in Nashville, TN
- 4:57believe it's at Two Rivers Park in yeah, just just S Nashville
- 5:02there. I believe it's South Nashville
- 5:05is the Nashville Pagan Pride Day.
- 5:09I will be there with my wife and a friend.
- 5:11I will be offering rune reading services all day.
- 5:14And my good friend and brother Zeb of the Nordic folk, Dark
- 5:20ambient folk project Skogamore will be coming all the way from
- 5:26the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina to perform his
- 5:30musical craft that day. So I've had Zeb on the show a
- 5:34couple of times in the past. It's been a little while, but he
- 5:36is a great guy. We met years and years ago, some
- 5:41other mutual friends of ours have, I actually introduced them
- 5:44to one another. So we have this shared
- 5:47friendship and brotherhood thing going on with other great men
- 5:50and, and individuals in our lives.
- 5:53And he's like I said, he's been doing this, this, this kind of
- 5:56solo project where he's, you know, man of the forest, you
- 6:00know, Skogermother is the old Norse word for it.
- 6:04But Skogermore, he's got a different Appalachian twist.
- 6:08The way he says it's kind of kind of cool.
- 6:10And I don't want to ruin it or, or, or spoil that for you, but
- 6:14he will be performing. He's coming out to perform that
- 6:16day at Nashville Pagan Pride. So in addition to coming out and
- 6:20seeing all the other cool things that are going to be going on,
- 6:23all the other vendors, workshops, activities, food
- 6:29trucks and things, it's just a good old time.
- 6:31You know, it's it's a one day thing.
- 6:33If you're in the area or if you feel like coming out, come see
- 6:35me and come get your runes read and stick around to see Zeb
- 6:38perform Skogarmore. His his music and stuff, which
- 6:42you hear actually every episode of the podcast, the outro that
- 6:46outro track was written by him for me for the show.
- 6:50So definitely looking forward to that.
- 6:52Can't wait to see him and hopefully you all here again.
- 6:55It's October 4th in Nashville. I'll leave some information in
- 6:59the show notes for those of you that are listening in case you
- 7:01want to follow up with that. So yeah, so now that we got all
- 7:08of that fun stuff out of the way, want to talk a little bit
- 7:13about something that has kind of been weighing heavy in my heart
- 7:16and and on my mind. You know, every year I go out to
- 7:23North Carolina and I reconnect and with friends and, and
- 7:29brothers of mine for Fire on the Mountain.
- 7:31It's a annual thing. And this was our fifth year
- 7:34doing it for a men's spiritual health, spiritual Wellness and
- 7:40coming back from it this year, you know, we, we made a big
- 7:43jump. We made a big shift into how
- 7:45we're going to continue with, with this whole thing.
- 7:49It's, it's becoming more than just a men's spiritual retreat.
- 7:53It is we we saw the the potential for this to become
- 8:00something that is like the pinnacle of a institution for
- 8:05men and our holistic health, our holistic Wellness.
- 8:10So not just spiritual health, but our mental health, our
- 8:13physical health, our spiritual health, you know, kind of
- 8:16covering all bases. We work together.
- 8:20Me and the other founding fire, who kind of started this whole
- 8:25thing five years ago as fire in the mountain.
- 8:27We we worked very hard to come up with a like I said, this
- 8:35institution, this order, OK for men to be a part of and got a
- 8:43lot of work to do with that. It's it's, it is work.
- 8:45It is, you know, everything is earned, nothing is given sort of
- 8:50a thing. So coming back from that, you
- 8:53know, coming back from that retreat every year, first of
- 8:56all, there's always this period of time where the, the
- 9:00reintegration back into everyday life.
- 9:04You know, when you're out there camping and doing things of a,
- 9:09you know, inner work, spiritual work, and you're, and you're
- 9:11working together with other men doing the same thing.
- 9:13You know, you're having your individual experience, plus
- 9:15you're having a shared experience.
- 9:17There's a lot of energy at work that's had that's at play there,
- 9:20you know, and this year was no different.
- 9:23So coming back from these retreats, every year after
- 9:26you're gone for four days, three nights, there's always a period
- 9:30of time within that first week or so that's, you know, getting
- 9:33reintegrated back into your day-to-day life is, is at least
- 9:36for me, you know, it's a, it's a process.
- 9:41And I think there was a lot that came out this year for me
- 9:48specifically that, you know, good things that have taken a
- 9:54lot more time for me to navigate through.
- 9:58And one of the things that has come as a result of that
- 10:02experience and those feelings have been this or has been this
- 10:09lack of inspiration, not feeling inspired to do what I'm doing on
- 10:16the podcast, you know, like I have a set schedule when I
- 10:18record every week. And then when the day comes and
- 10:21I'm like, I just don't feel like it.
- 10:25And I always am. I'm very in tune with, you know,
- 10:28my feelings, my, my, my spirit with, with regards to that.
- 10:32And I don't ever try to force things, you know, and I know
- 10:35that for folks that have been listening and watching this show
- 10:37over the years, I'm sure that there have been times, maybe
- 10:41even recently that my demeanor has been different, even on
- 10:47screen or over the, you know, airwaves, whether it's the tone
- 10:50of my voice or the expressions on my face, if you're watching
- 10:52or just kind of the, the, the feel of the show, right?
- 11:00And you know, I've gone through a lot in the last six seasons,
- 11:06things that, you know, could've, could've put the damper on this
- 11:12whole operation, you know what I mean?
- 11:13I could've said, I'm, I'm done with this.
- 11:16I'm, I'm hanging it up. It was a good run, but I'm done.
- 11:19You know, and I, if, if I had a dime for every time I thought
- 11:23that, you know, this, this podcast would be in a studio,
- 11:27we'd have top notch equipment and I'd be rolling in it.
- 11:33So point being is that feeling of not being inspired to, to
- 11:37want to do anything. I'm in tune with that and I go,
- 11:40where is this coming from? You know, really sit with myself
- 11:43and sit with those feelings and, and understand kind of the the
- 11:46why, right? Why am I feeling this way?
- 11:50And I know a lot of it has to do with my own, I guess you could
- 11:56say, you know, feelings of not being enough.
- 12:06You know what I mean? Like I, I, I'm, I'm a very
- 12:08analytically driven person. I have, I have high aspirations
- 12:11and, and I try to do the most that I can with what I've got,
- 12:15even if it's not, you know, the greatest production, the
- 12:18greatest quality. You know, I do the best that I
- 12:20can with what I got to. But I, you know, I see other
- 12:24things and I go, if I had that, you know, it would be so much
- 12:26better. Or I see, you know, the
- 12:28analytics of the show, it's not performing as good as I hoped it
- 12:30would be, you know, really trying to push the the
- 12:35sponsorship thing and then and look at what I do on this
- 12:39platform and, and value my time accordingly.
- 12:44And when you don't get the responses and you don't get the,
- 12:46the reaction or the, yeah, the response, you know, if what
- 12:51you're putting out doesn't bring back what you feel like it
- 12:53should you do you have these expectations?
- 12:55At least I do. Doing these types of things, it
- 12:58can be discouraging and it can really, for me, you know, it
- 13:03can, it can really put the kibosh on my creativity.
- 13:10OK, So whenever I get into those moments, I go, you know, well,
- 13:16this is more, this isn't just about me, You know, this isn't,
- 13:18this isn't just I'm enjoying what I'm doing, yes, but other
- 13:21people enjoy this. So, you know, I do have this
- 13:24feeling or this kind of sense of an obligation with this, not in
- 13:28a bad way, but in a way that's like I, you know, if I'm not
- 13:32feeling it, if I'm forcing it, it's not fair to those of you
- 13:35who listen and watch the show to get that version of me.
- 13:38You know, you should get the best that I can offer.
- 13:42And I realize that sometimes that's, you know, that's not
- 13:45always the case. You're not always getting my
- 13:47very best, but I'm human. I still push through and
- 13:49hopefully you all still get something out of what I'm doing.
- 13:52And, you know, I feel like being that authentic and being that
- 13:55genuine does, you know, kind of provide a much needed
- 14:01authenticity. You know, there's so much clout
- 14:07out here that people are chasing.
- 14:08There's so much inauthenticity, you know, inauthentic people and
- 14:11disingenuous. And it's everybody's trying to
- 14:14create an image or create a persona.
- 14:17And I'm not, you know, I'm I'm this is me.
- 14:22So I was talking to one of the founding, you know, the other
- 14:28founding fire, fire on the mountain in this new men's
- 14:31institution that we founded together.
- 14:34And yeah, it just came up kind of casually in the conversation.
- 14:38I said, man, you know, I've just not been feeling so inspired
- 14:41lately. And yeah, one of the things that
- 14:48he said or he had proposed to think about is, well, he's like,
- 14:53you know, have you ever talked about Mead?
- 15:00You know, have you ever had an episode where you talk about the
- 15:04topic of Mead and how it is connected to divine inspiration
- 15:08and divine speech and poetry and, and, you know, being
- 15:13inspired, You know, you're talking about not feeling so
- 15:17inspired or not so creative. You know, have you ever
- 15:19dedicated or talked about that? And I go, man, you know, come to
- 15:22think of it, no, I really haven't.
- 15:25And, and to be honest, was what I told him.
- 15:28I said, you know, admittedly, I get so like, I, I think too much
- 15:35about things, you know what I mean?
- 15:36I put myself into the production of this show so much that I go,
- 15:40what can I put out here that's not just basic stuff?
- 15:44And he's like, well, you know, I totally get that.
- 15:47And maybe you should think about that somewhere.
- 15:49These aren't his exact words, but you know, what I got out of
- 15:51it was, you know, realize that, you know, your audiences include
- 15:59seasoned heathens and people who have been doing this for a long
- 16:02time. And you have other people who
- 16:03are just hearing this stuff for the first time.
- 16:05And you getting people that are coming in.
- 16:06And no matter how old they are, whether they're young or old,
- 16:09it's, you know, they're, they're new, they're fresh.
- 16:11And so getting a new and a fresh thing is basic, as it might seem
- 16:15to you after having done this for so many years, could be a
- 16:19really refreshing thing for them.
- 16:22And he started talking about, you know, maybe maybe go over
- 16:26some materials, including where the importance of Mead is found
- 16:32in the myths and lore. You know, and you know, you
- 16:38heard at the beginning of of the podcast of several stanzas of
- 16:42the Hava Mall, which if you're interested and you want to check
- 16:45out which stanzas those are, it's stanzas one O 2 through one
- 16:50O 5 of the Hava Mall. And that it would be the Oliver
- 16:59Bray translation. So other translations might not
- 17:03exactly be, you know, one O 2 in one translation might be, you
- 17:07know, one O 3 stanza, one O 3 in another translation.
- 17:10So bear that in mind. But basically it's the section
- 17:12of the of the Hava Mall that is is Odin Speaking of about his
- 17:17quest for this for the meat of poetry, you know, or the song
- 17:20meat. And he's talking about, you
- 17:23know, going to good Love's Hall and being given the drafts of
- 17:27Mead. And that story.
- 17:29If you want to check out more about that is is told about in
- 17:37the Prose Edda. So Snorri Sturluson, you know,
- 17:4312th century, I believe Icelandic scald and you know,
- 17:51important guy, politician, Chieftain, whatever he wrote his
- 17:55prose Edda and it does contain stories that are not found in
- 18:01the Poetic Edda. The Poetic Edda and and certain
- 18:04poems in the Poetic Edda are considered primary sources,
- 18:08especially the ones like the whole of them all and Bolas Spa
- 18:12things that can, you know, that make up.
- 18:14But the the Codex Regis, you know, older sources and then
- 18:19Snorri Sturlsson's Prose Edda does not get left out.
- 18:24It is still considered, you know, maybe secondary sources
- 18:29since at the time, you know, when when it was written, you
- 18:33know, Snorri was obviously he wasn't Pagan.
- 18:35He was Christian or he was working under the, you know,
- 18:39Christian rule of Iceland at the time.
- 18:42And so is a lot of the people that read Snorri's work or or
- 18:47believe that, you know, there's these are myths, these are
- 18:50stories of of when times where Pagan for the area.
- 18:52But there's things that come through that might have some
- 18:56Christian bias being thrown in there.
- 18:59Or sometimes Snorri just, you know, contradicts himself when
- 19:01you really get into the study of it.
- 19:02But anyway, not to bore you with all of that, the the poem in the
- 19:07Prose Edda that talks about Odin and his quest for this Mead and
- 19:12other really neat things about Mead itself is found in the poem
- 19:15called Sculpt Sculpamal. Sculpamal.
- 19:18I'll put that in the show notes for you.
- 19:20You know, if you're watching this in the description area, we
- 19:22can go look. But that is Snorri's prose
- 19:25account that gives kind of the fullest, most enriching, you
- 19:30know, surviving narrative about Odin's quest for the Mead and
- 19:35also, you know, kind of the importance of Mead and and the
- 19:40mythology and the mythical aspect of it.
- 19:43So it talks about, you know, Classier and him being killed by
- 19:47the dwarves and that his blood became the Mead of poetry, you
- 19:56know, the Mead of song. So yeah, it was like talking
- 20:01about. Why I haven't been feeling
- 20:05inspired or, or, you know, I haven't gone on that quest, you
- 20:11know, so I get to thinking about these things and I go, man, I
- 20:13am, I am, I, am I pursuing that? Am I doing the necessary things
- 20:17to pursue that, to go on that quest to even change form as
- 20:21Odin did, where he changes into the, you know, he, he goes there
- 20:24and he, he disguises himself as Bolvecker, you know, and he, and
- 20:29he gets into Sutung's hall and he, and he steals the Mead from,
- 20:33from, from good Lord. And he changes form into an
- 20:38eagle, right? And, and even a, a, a snake to
- 20:41slip through the walls. And then he flies away as an
- 20:43eagle to bring the Mead back to the gods and then to mankind,
- 20:48you know, and from that Mead is the source of poetry.
- 20:52And where I'm getting this all from is from Skullscap them all.
- 20:59So there's a few lines, there's a few sections.
- 21:02Again, I, I can put a link for you all in the show notes of
- 21:07where to find a copy of if you just want to read it online.
- 21:13But there's this one particular line where, and I'll just jump
- 21:18right to it. So you know what I'm saying.
- 21:20It's a conversation that is being had between a year and
- 21:25Braggy. So then, said Agir, I deem that
- 21:31well concealed in secret terms, and again said to Agir, whence
- 21:35did this art, which we call poetry, derive its beginnings?
- 21:42Broggy answered, These were the beginnings thereof.
- 21:47The gods had a dispute with the folks which are called Vonnier,
- 21:51and they appointed a peace meeting between them and
- 21:54established peace in this way. They each went to a VAT and spat
- 21:59their spittle therein. Then at parting, the gods took
- 22:04that peace token and would not let it perish, but shaped
- 22:09thereof a man. This man is called Kvassir, and
- 22:14he was so wise that none could question him concerning anything
- 22:18but that he knew the solution. He went up and down the earth to
- 22:23give instruction to man, and when he came upon the And when
- 22:27he came upon invitation to the abode of certain dwarves, Fialer
- 22:31and Gawler, they called him into Privy converse with them and
- 22:36kill him, letting his blood run into two vats and a kettle.
- 22:42The kettle is named Otharir and the Vats Son and Boden.
- 22:48They blended honey with the blood, and the outcome was that
- 22:52Mead by the virtue of which he who drinks becomes a scald or
- 22:58scholar. The dwarves reported to the Asir
- 23:03that Kvassir had choked on his own shrewdness since there was
- 23:08none so wise there as to be able to question his wisdom.
- 23:15So there's kind of the origin of Mead in the myths and how
- 23:22specifically Kvasir's blood later on, later on in the in the
- 23:28poem, there's some really cool like kennings and stuff that
- 23:31come up. Kennings meaning like poetic
- 23:34renamings of things, you know, like 1 modern kenning for, for,
- 23:41for Mead itself could be something like bees sweat, you
- 23:44know, or Kvasir's blood. That is a kenning for Mead, but
- 23:51this is a this is a really cool line towards the end of Scald
- 23:56Scarpa Mall. Let's see if I can see if I can
- 24:03find it here for you, Saul. There's a bunch of poetry.
- 24:10Let's see. Kvassir.
- 24:17Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. OK, yeah.
- 24:22Now you shall hear how the skalds have termed the art of
- 24:26poetry in these metaphorical phrases which have been recorded
- 24:31before, for example, by calling it Kvassir's Gore and Ship of
- 24:36the Dwarves. Dwarves Mead, Mead of the Aceir
- 24:39giants Father Ransom liquor of Oathrair and of Boden and of
- 24:45song and fullness of these liquor of Hinit Bjorg.
- 24:50Now Hinit Bjorg was the IT was a place in the story.
- 24:53You just, you know, read it. You'll know.
- 24:56But liquor of Hinit Bjorg booty and find and gift of Odin, even
- 25:02as he even as has been sung in these verses which Einar
- 25:06tinkling scale wrote or wrought. So there's a there's a good
- 25:11portion of this poems called scuffam, all which includes
- 25:16skaldic poetry, skaldic singings.
- 25:19You know, I pray the high soul warder of earth to hear the
- 25:22ocean of the Cliff of dwarves. My verse here, Earl, the gore of
- 25:27classier, very poetic, very, very, you know, well to do.
- 25:32And poetry was such an important part of of Scandinavian Pagan
- 25:40times. I mean like the, the skalds, the
- 25:42poets again, the good ones, they were, they were quite often
- 25:47times they know they served in the King's courts or, or you
- 25:50know, chieftains or Urals or not Earls or Urals.
- 25:55You know, they were important enough to have to be under
- 25:58those, those people's retinue. And their inspiration came from,
- 26:04it was believed, you know, from drinking of this need of poetry.
- 26:10Now again, you know, looking at it from a physical standpoint,
- 26:14you know, drinking Mead, drinking anything alcoholic can
- 26:20definitely turn people into, they loosens the lips, right?
- 26:25It loosens our tongues. And it gives us this ability to
- 26:28speak when more freely. And that could be a good thing
- 26:32sometimes, you know, obviously you get too much of it in you
- 26:34and it's a bad thing. And you know, there's a lesson
- 26:39for that as well. But I look at it more from the,
- 26:44you know, metaphorical side of things, you know, having not
- 26:52worked hard. And I have not earned that need.
- 26:56You know, Odin wouldn't have received the wisdom that it,
- 27:00that it came from those 3 drafts, that, that was, that it
- 27:04was being guarded by, by, by Sutton and, and Gundloth, right.
- 27:10So that, you know, kind of tells me in order to get this, you
- 27:16know, inspiration in order to be inspired to be poetic or to
- 27:20speak. I mean, sure, I may not be
- 27:25reciting poetry on a podcast, but this is a, it's a, it's a
- 27:29platform where words are being woven and things are being said.
- 27:32And as I, you know, talked a lot about in the past with that, you
- 27:36know, our, our words carry weight and I enjoy poetry, You
- 27:42know, I enjoy finding my muse within written word, spoken
- 27:51word. I love the alliterative meter of
- 27:56Germanic poetry. You know what I mean?
- 28:00I've, I've done some of my own work in that area trying to kind
- 28:07of preserve that, that flame, preserve that fire on my
- 28:11dramatic side. And it translates differently
- 28:17when you're on a podcast and when you're talking to people,
- 28:19you know, you're having conversations or you're doing
- 28:21this like we're doing right now, this, this kind of a monologue
- 28:23and talking about it. But it it definitely opens up
- 28:28kind of some things for me to be like, if you're not, if you're
- 28:35not pursuing it, you know what I mean?
- 28:40If you're if you're not seeking it out, seeking out those
- 28:43giants, seeking out that thing like Odin had to do, it's going
- 28:50to take work, but you're not going to get anything out of it.
- 28:55And it's also, you know, kind of put into perspective for me, you
- 29:01know, what, what the future of this podcast means, because I
- 29:06never, I never look too far ahead in the future, right?
- 29:08I never look like, well, we're going to run this thing for 10
- 29:12seasons and that's it or whatever.
- 29:14I just, I go basically, you know, week to week, day-to-day.
- 29:17Some, yes, I have in the past, you know, scheduled that people
- 29:21out, you know, months in advance.
- 29:23And that's fine. That's great.
- 29:24I like doing that too, when I, when I can, scheduling shows
- 29:29that that far out and, and filling up slots and, and
- 29:32getting that done. But you know, I don't know
- 29:35after, you know, however far in the future I have something
- 29:39scheduled for if, if it'll continue after that, I never
- 29:45know. I, I just, I never know.
- 29:47And you know, I don't, I don't want to like, I don't want to
- 29:58set an expectation for something that is unrealistic, but I want
- 30:02to keep the inspiration. I want to, I want to maintain
- 30:04that. And then and that takes work,
- 30:06you know what I mean? It's, it doesn't come by just
- 30:08sitting on my hands and hoping for something to land in my lap.
- 30:14It comes through, if not through my own work, it comes through
- 30:18the work that I share with others.
- 30:19You know what I mean? The things that are done with
- 30:23people who mean a lot to me, my family, my friends, my, my
- 30:28kinsman, my, my, my tribe, you know, call him that.
- 30:36Cause again, had I not had that conversation with, with my
- 30:43brother, man, like he wouldn't, you know, this wouldn't, I
- 30:45wouldn't be talking about this. I would, I would, I probably
- 30:48would have been like, well, guys, you know, no podcast for
- 30:50this week. So, yeah, it kind of just it
- 30:59opens up, you know, conversation too as well, like for, for, for
- 31:03those of you that are listening, how if, if you're familiar with
- 31:07the myths at all, like how does it kind of resonate with you?
- 31:13I'm not the type of heathen. I'm not the type of person to
- 31:16take stories as like literal happenings of things.
- 31:19I understand, you know, what the lore is, but it, the lore means
- 31:22something and the myth means something.
- 31:24And this to me is, is a sort of like a, a lesson to be learned
- 31:30here, you know, like this is where this comes from, but you
- 31:36got to work for it. You have to put in the work.
- 31:39You got to do the damn work. The whole like poetic
- 31:47inspiration that Mead has, like these, you know, to be able to,
- 31:52to, to plan something like a podcast or to a plan, anything
- 31:56video content related. There is a bit of poetry in
- 32:02that. There's poetry in motion.
- 32:03There's, there's this whole, everything has to line up.
- 32:05Well, you know, especially if you're scheduling with this with
- 32:07other people. So it is, it is a pursuit.
- 32:11It is a sometimes a relentless 1 to really get in there and
- 32:19figure your stuff out and not do it just for you, but realize
- 32:24it's it's for others. Yeah.
- 32:27The cool thing, you know, is, is like learning about the the
- 32:29history of Mead itself and and the importance of it in the
- 32:34society. You know, Mead is probably, I
- 32:36think one of, if not the oldest forms of alcoholic beverages,
- 32:43you know, fermented drink that exists.
- 32:46I think there have been like residue analysis done on 7 to
- 32:558000 year old. We call it items in China that
- 33:04that that show like a rice, honey, fruit fermented drink
- 33:11rice with honey with fruit, right, So that you know, using
- 33:13the rice and honey for sweetener and other fruits, right to make
- 33:16this fermented drink. I think there's also there's,
- 33:23you know, there's some things that that link the OR anchor the
- 33:26idea that honey fermented beverages specifically, they are
- 33:33not just for drinking casually. They, they, they have a long
- 33:37ritual and social history outside of, of Europe, Even so,
- 33:45like in the north, you know, in Scandinavia, in northern Europe,
- 33:51there's been archaeological, archaeological finds that tend
- 33:56to show like mixed fermented beverages made with barley and,
- 33:59and honey and, and you know, what fruit was available.
- 34:03But other imported goods, you know, found in like elite
- 34:13context, again, the kings, the the Yarls, the Earls, the, the,
- 34:18the, the nobility, you know, this wasn't, this wasn't
- 34:22anything that was readily available to the common folk.
- 34:26It was, again, you were you were an important person or had
- 34:29important status to have access to this stuff in the in the
- 34:33north at least. So, yeah, you know, I think that
- 34:45for me talking with talking with my brother about this really,
- 34:53you know, because again, I'm still like, even though the
- 34:56whole fire on the mountain retreat, you know, even though
- 34:58that was three weeks ago at this point, you know, that time
- 35:05you're hearing this, you know, it was about 3 weeks ago, about
- 35:12two weeks, I think 2, two, 2-3 weeks ago, right.
- 35:14Less than a month ago. I still find myself like having
- 35:20a hard time with certain things. I don't know, it's been a rough
- 35:24reintegration back to, to normal day life or a normal everyday
- 35:28life. But we're going to get there.
- 35:30I'm going to get there. It's, it's, it's, it's going to
- 35:33be OK. You know, So I do actually have
- 35:38some really cool news to share, which by the time you, you're
- 35:45listening to this, you probably have already seen it because
- 35:49it's been, it's been shared already on, on my socials.
- 35:54But next week's episode, next week's episode is going to be
- 36:00probably one of my most, you know, I've had some awesome
- 36:04guests on this show and they're very thankful that the people
- 36:07who I do have on here are interested first of all, in
- 36:10wanting to come on the show. But there are some that
- 36:18definitely stand out. And, and this one, this, this
- 36:20guest that I have coming up next week, definitely stands out
- 36:24because it is a performer and a, an individual who has, I know
- 36:31she's been the inspiration and, and been, you know, an important
- 36:38part of a lot of people's life in and out of the performing
- 36:45arts. But definitely from the
- 36:47performing arts perspective, music specifically, I am talking
- 36:51about Mira Ketsi, Mira Seti. I'm, I'm, if I'm mispronouncing
- 36:55it now, I'm, I'm going to get it right by the time I speak to
- 36:58her. But Mira, who's, you know, she
- 37:00performs with High Lung and has for I think now like 6 or 7
- 37:09years, something like that, maybe longer.
- 37:15She also has her own solo music project and and has for a while
- 37:18too. So again, having having the
- 37:20chance to speak with her and having her come on the show,
- 37:23like, Dang, you know, had Nitland come on the show
- 37:28recently. Yeah, I don't know.
- 37:33It's and it's one of those things where I go, man, if I
- 37:37were to just stop all of this, you know, and hang it all up,
- 37:39you know, there's still so much left to do.
- 37:43There's still so much left to pursue, you know, that that Mead
- 37:47is still out there to steal, as it were.
- 37:51You know what I mean? It's being guarded.
- 37:52It's being guarded by those, those doggone yotin.
- 37:58Yeah, time the heck get that wily wit about us and and get
- 38:02out there and do the damn work, as you say.
- 38:04So let me know your thoughts. Let me know what you guys are
- 38:07thinking when it comes to the application of Mead, not just in
- 38:13the lore, but how you know it translates into your daily
- 38:17practices or your ritual practices.
- 38:19I know a lot of heathens especially will use Mead
- 38:23ritually in place of things like, you know, when it comes to
- 38:29like libations and and offerings and stuff to the gods or to the
- 38:32land, you know, it's, it's, it's safe to consume the land.
- 38:35It's not going to hurt anything if you pour it out, you know, So
- 38:38it's a very popular and readily available, most of the time, I
- 38:42think readily available item. I know several people who make
- 38:49delicious Mead. You know, Daniel and Rebecca
- 38:52over there in, in Lenoir, NC at Moon Joy Meadery.
- 38:56Big shout out to them for having provided some amazing Mead,
- 39:01especially, you know, I've had like fire on the mountain
- 39:05before. We've had a lot of their Mead
- 39:07present 'cause they're, you know, not too far from where we
- 39:12go every year out there in North Carolina.
- 39:14But we got our local meatery here in Nashville, the Honey
- 39:17Tree meatery, the Ravenwood meatery down there in
- 39:21Huntsville, AL. They're doing great stuff.
- 39:23And then just the, the regular folks, you know, the people who
- 39:26are doing it, you know, themselves and then, you know,
- 39:31no, not, not a, not a big operation, but they got it
- 39:34dialed in. I had a delicious BlackBerry
- 39:37Mead that was made by a local elder of our community.
- 39:42She's been making me for I don't know how many years, but however
- 39:46long she's been doing it, she's got it like she's got the
- 39:48process dialed in. It's some of the best meat that
- 39:51I've ever had. It's, it's, it's so smooth.
- 39:54It's, you know, you don't taste, you taste everything in it.
- 39:59You know, you taste the berries, you taste the blackberries,
- 40:02especially in this batch was very, very vibrant, very smooth.
- 40:09So that you know, and I know it has a has a special place in a
- 40:14lot of pagans lives, a lot of heathens lives, whether it's
- 40:17casually consuming it, enjoying it with friends and family, or
- 40:21having it as an offering. Because it might be those that
- 40:24don't drink for alcohol for whatever reasons, but they still
- 40:27use it in ceremony and in rituals.
- 40:32So I'm anxious to hear what you guys are thinking, you know, and
- 40:34how it, how this, you know, maybe forgot about or didn't
- 40:37know about scullscope them all. I'm interested to hear what you
- 40:41all think about that. And also feel free to shoot some
- 40:46ideas. You know, my way.
- 40:48You can comment them. You can e-mail them
- 40:51midgardmusingstn@gmail.com. If you ever have an idea or
- 40:54something that you want. I'm, I'm interested in hearing
- 40:56anything that you guys think would be worth putting out here,
- 41:00no matter how basic it might be. I have done stuff in the past
- 41:04where people are, you know, talking about, hey, can you do a
- 41:07show on this or show on that or an episode on this and that.
- 41:11And I go, yeah, actually I have. And I'll refer them back to it.
- 41:13And then I go back and I like look at what I did or listen to
- 41:16it and I'm going, I need to revisit that one again.
- 41:20So nothing's really off the table.
- 41:24Happy to revisit something so that way you don't have to go
- 41:29back digging through content, but I don't know, there's a lot
- 41:32of it to, to dig through. So that's going to that's going
- 41:36to wrap up today's episode on need and inspiration and how we
- 41:41find ourselves inspired and pursuing that, that elusive and
- 41:45well guarded need of poetry. So let me know what you all
- 41:50think. Thank you so much for your
- 41:52support. Until we talk to each other
- 41:54again, may the gods continue to notice you and may your
- 41:58ancestors smile upon you. See you in the next one.
