The Season with Peter Schrager: Two Seans, a Kliff, and a Handful of Coaching Vacancies (Part 1) · NFL explained.

• 0:07
Speaker 1: The season with Peter Schreeger as a production of the
• 0:09
Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with my Heart Radio. What's up, everybody,
• 0:24
Speaker 1: It's playoff time. It's Super wild Card weekend. After they're
• 0:27
Speaker 1: calling it now the NFL Super wild Card Weekend. I
• 0:30
Speaker 1: feel like it's the what Jason, what was it when
• 0:33
Speaker 1: we were kids in New Jersey? Was Park? You know,
• 0:37
Speaker 1: It's like, that's what Super wild Card weekend? Um, I'm
• 0:42
Speaker 1: Peter Schreeger. This is the season with Peter Schreeger, and
• 0:44
Speaker 1: we are now into the playoffs and I'm already so
• 0:48
Speaker 1: fired up for the week that is ahead in football.
• 0:51
Speaker 1: We're gonna get to the games. But I wanted to
• 0:53
Speaker 1: start going through some coaching stuff. I've got really close
• 0:57
Speaker 1: relationships with a lot of these guys and I want
• 0:59
Speaker 1: to empty the bag and I haven't done it on
• 1:01
Speaker 1: Good Morning Football. It's Tuesday's fluid, of course, but let's
• 1:04
Speaker 1: let's get to the big ones. Uh. Let's start was
• 1:06
Speaker 1: Shawan Payton. He was great last week on the podcast.
• 1:08
Speaker 1: We got a lot of great feedback, made a little
• 1:11
Speaker 1: news with him saying stuff about New Orleans and it's
• 1:14
Speaker 1: not looking to go back there. And then also the
• 1:18
Speaker 1: Brady history with him and that they're most likely to
• 1:21
Speaker 1: work together at Fox as opposed to somewhere else. Then
• 1:23
Speaker 1: on Sunday, I was on Fox NFL Kickoff with him,
• 1:28
Speaker 1: and uh are great producers there were like, that was
• 1:31
Speaker 1: a good podcast you did with I want to we
• 1:32
Speaker 1: reenact that and ask him things more up to date
• 1:34
Speaker 1: because there was news overnight and we did. But I'll
• 1:37
Speaker 1: go to Saturday night, Sean pay and Chris and Thompson
• 1:39
Speaker 1: and I went to dinner in Los Angeles. Um. The
• 1:42
Speaker 1: three of us had a nice long dinner and we
• 1:45
Speaker 1: just chatted about life, careers and then Sean Payton and
• 1:48
Speaker 1: that was the topic. And I think it's really interesting
• 1:51
Speaker 1: where he's at in his life. He's really happy at
• 1:53
Speaker 1: Fox Sports, and I know you roll your eyes, Okay,
• 1:56
Speaker 1: really happy and money is not an issue. He's gotten paid,
• 1:59
Speaker 1: So when you have money is not an issue and
• 2:00
Speaker 1: you're really happy and you're living in Manhattan beach uh
• 2:03
Speaker 1: and living in life where he literally was saying us
• 2:05
Speaker 1: last week, he walks the dogs, he plays golf, and
• 2:08
Speaker 1: then he still gets to be a part of a
• 2:09
Speaker 1: team on the weekends. It's really appealing to stay, especially
• 2:13
Speaker 1: at Fox where there's like a culture of you know,
• 2:15
Speaker 1: they treat uh, they treat their guys really good. And
• 2:18
Speaker 1: Sean Payton has treated really well there. Um, He's loved
• 2:23
Speaker 1: and he knows he's got that as a fallback. So
• 2:25
Speaker 1: what would it take for him to go? Uh the
• 2:27
Speaker 1: appeal of returning to coaching, as he said with that
• 2:29
Speaker 1: great Nascar analogy, he's outside the stadium, he hears the buzz,
• 2:33
Speaker 1: He's no, he's gonna come back. It's just when. Um.
• 2:37
Speaker 1: There are things that I think, man, I don't think
• 2:39
Speaker 1: the money is paramount. I think situation. I think comfort.
• 2:43
Speaker 1: I think his ability uh to do things his way
• 2:48
Speaker 1: and to be able to compete with the guys around
• 2:51
Speaker 1: him that he wants. So I do think that he
• 2:54
Speaker 1: wants to bring his own defensive coordinator. I don't think
• 2:56
Speaker 1: I'm speaking out of turn that I think he'd want
• 2:57
Speaker 1: to bring some of his front office guys. Not saying
• 2:59
Speaker 1: he would fire a GM and it's already there, but
• 3:01
Speaker 1: I think he would want some of his guys and
• 3:03
Speaker 1: he's got a lot of years of experience working in
• 3:06
Speaker 1: organizations and people he trusts, and he would want to
• 3:08
Speaker 1: bring them. One thing I think is really important. I
• 3:11
Speaker 1: don't think quarterback is like this end all be all
• 3:14
Speaker 1: for Sean talked about it. I said Russell Wilson's name
• 3:18
Speaker 1: on Sunday and he didn't shudder, he didn't. And his
• 3:21
Speaker 1: point was they didn't have a quarterback in New Orleans
• 3:24
Speaker 1: and he got there and no one wanted Drew Brees.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: And yeah, that might have been lightning in a bottle.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: But guess what. Drew Brees went down. Teddy Bridgewater went
• 3:32
Speaker 1: five and oh for the Saints a couple of years ago,
• 3:33
Speaker 1: and they went to the playoffs. Um last year, Jameis
• 3:37
Speaker 1: Winston went down. They had a rotating door of Taysom Hill,
• 3:41
Speaker 1: of Ian Book of Trevor Simeon. Guess what they were
• 3:45
Speaker 1: into till Week eighteen when they were finally eliminated at
• 3:48
Speaker 1: the end. Like, I don't think Sean looks at the
• 3:51
Speaker 1: quarterback position as the end all be all, and he's
• 3:53
Speaker 1: never had a Justin Herbert or a Josh Allen. He's
• 3:56
Speaker 1: never had one of those guys. But I honestly look
• 3:59
Speaker 1: at the availability of Sean pay and and also the
• 4:02
Speaker 1: matches that he would make like that Denver's gotta be appealing.
• 4:05
Speaker 1: Owners are willing to spend money on the team. Forget
• 4:08
Speaker 1: his salary. The team, I don't know if you guys
• 4:10
Speaker 1: saw this Week eighteen already eliminated. They put four thousand
• 4:15
Speaker 1: dollars into the field for just Week eight teen in
• 4:18
Speaker 1: Denver to make sure the playing surface was that it
• 4:20
Speaker 1: was was up to snuff. Um. Not every team does that.
• 4:23
Speaker 1: That's a real commitment to winning, and that's putting your
• 4:25
Speaker 1: money where your mouth is. I think that's appealing. I
• 4:28
Speaker 1: think working for UH an owner that wants to win
• 4:31
Speaker 1: that badly or wants to put the best product on
• 4:33
Speaker 1: the field is something that is appealing. I haven't heard
• 4:37
Speaker 1: of any other teams reach out to the Saints to
• 4:39
Speaker 1: to get the permission to speak to Sean, But I
• 4:42
Speaker 1: would imagine of the different vacancies, I would think Arizona.
• 4:46
  Speaker 1: I don't know if he's gonna go to Arizona. That's
• 4:48
Speaker 1: so many question marks there, especially with the fact that uh,
• 4:52
Speaker 1: you know, you also have to build from the bottom,
• 4:54
Speaker 1: and there's a quarterback that you're married to for all
• 4:57
Speaker 1: that time that he doesn't know what Kyler Murray. So
• 4:58
Speaker 1: let's say Arizona is one Houston. All those draft picks
• 5:02
Speaker 1: they have the second in the twelfth pick, they have
• 5:04
Speaker 1: an empty quarterback was and the negatives are the Houston
• 5:08
Speaker 1: Texans franchise has been more about the last few years,
• 5:11
Speaker 1: and you'd have to really build that thing from the
• 5:13
Speaker 1: bottom up. But it's no worse than what New Orleans
• 5:15
Speaker 1: was in when he got there. And the last one's Carolina.
• 5:18
Speaker 1: And I think a very important point that he made
• 5:20
Speaker 1: on Fox with Me on Sunday with Sean Payton was
• 5:24
Speaker 1: it's okay, I will coach in the division, and I
• 5:26
Speaker 1: think the Saints would trade me within the division if
• 5:28
Speaker 1: the if the compensation is right, and he cited that
• 5:31
Speaker 1: Bill Parcels went from the Patriots to the Jets. He
• 5:36
Speaker 1: cited that Bill Belichick went from UH temporarily with the
• 5:39
Speaker 1: Jets to the Patriots. There have been interdivision trades before
• 5:43
Speaker 1: of coaches. It has been done, and it seemed from
• 5:46
Speaker 1: his indication on Fox Sunday that I don't know if
• 5:48
Speaker 1: he's had conversation with Mickey Loomis, but they'd at least
• 5:50
Speaker 1: be listening to what Carolina had to offer. You look
• 5:53
Speaker 1: at all those destinations right now, and I could be
• 5:56
Speaker 1: missing one. Am I missing one of them? That vacancy, Oh, Indianapolis,
• 6:00
  Speaker 1: I don't see Indianapolis. I'm just dismissing that. I just
• 6:03
  Speaker 1: I don't I don't think Sean would. I don't know.
• 6:04
Speaker 1: That just seems like a different kind of deal. Um,
• 6:07
Speaker 1: thank you for that, Aaron. I forgot the Colts Right now,
• 6:10
Speaker 1: As of Tuesday morning, the Cardinals and the Panthers and
• 6:12
Speaker 1: the Texans have not asked or have gotten permission from
• 6:15
Speaker 1: the Saints to speak with Shaanpagne. Only Denver has. But
• 6:18
Speaker 1: I think all four of those are in play. But
• 6:20
Speaker 1: here's the wild card. And again, I talk all the
• 6:23
Speaker 1: time with Paine. He has not told me this straight out,
• 6:25
Speaker 1: but I know his history. I know his relationship with
• 6:28
Speaker 1: that city where he lived for many years and coached.
• 6:31
Speaker 1: If the Dallas job opens up, I think that's the
• 6:36
Speaker 1: front runner. That would That would take a lot, That
• 6:38
Speaker 1: would take McCarthy having a colossal failure on Monday. I
• 6:42
Speaker 1: think it would take a lot. And again, I'm not
• 6:44
Speaker 1: speaking on behalf of Sean Page. And I just think
• 6:46
Speaker 1: all these other options you can be vinced on, you
• 6:48
Speaker 1: can you can twist your Dallas. It's like, all right,
• 6:52
Speaker 1: former Cowboys offensive coordinator, great relationship with Jerry Jones, lived
• 6:58
Speaker 1: in Dallas, raised his kids, in Dallas. Um, certainly something
• 7:03
Speaker 1: to watch alright, one sewn down? How about the next?
• 7:05
Speaker 1: Sean McVeigh. Everyone's asking me about McVeigh. Spoke with Hi yesterday.
• 7:10
Speaker 1: Anyone who tells you that this is a decision has
• 7:12
Speaker 1: been made is a crooking, a liar, because it has
• 7:15
Speaker 1: as of Tuesday. Sean McVeigh not fickle, but certainly not
• 7:18
Speaker 1: someone who's gotta take yet right now. And I knew
• 7:21
Speaker 1: this for a couple of weeks, and the Rams knew
• 7:23
Speaker 1: this for a couple of weeks. He's burnt out. We
• 7:25
Speaker 1: talked about it. Um, you want to go through the
• 7:29
Speaker 1: field stuff. Well, yeah, on the coaching field, he has
• 7:31
Speaker 1: had NonStop since seventeen, just you know, pedal to the metal,
• 7:35
Speaker 1: got the super Bowl, and you think that this would
• 7:38
Speaker 1: be this great like feeling of of joy and all right,
• 7:41
Speaker 1: I've accomplished something. He's not wired that way. So it
• 7:43
Speaker 1: was right back to work and there really was no
• 7:45
Speaker 1: time off. And I think that these injuries, you know,
• 7:48
Speaker 1: all coming at the same time, and then him trying
• 7:51
Speaker 1: to muster the same sort of energy and same sort
• 7:53
Speaker 1: of zest that he had the year before this year
• 7:55
Speaker 1: was difficult. And he's turned that inward. This is real
• 8:00
Speaker 1: like psychology stuff that we're talking about now, this is
• 8:02
Speaker 1: real mental health stuff. These are the conversations they didn't
• 8:04
Speaker 1: have when Parcels walked away from the Giants, or when
• 8:07
Speaker 1: we've seen countless coaches leave at their peak and then
• 8:10
Speaker 1: maybe hint to come back. And the burnout factor is
• 8:13
Speaker 1: really strong with Sean. The question is is he so
• 8:15
Speaker 1: burnt out that he needs time away. Here's how I
• 8:18
Speaker 1: would envision if he was to step away, going I
• 8:21
Speaker 1: think I'm fine saying this, and this is why they
• 8:23
Speaker 1: pay me on a podcast. You know. They want stuff
• 8:26
Speaker 1: that's different than just what I've said everywhere else. So
• 8:27
Speaker 1: here we go the plan that I would see, and
• 8:30
Speaker 1: this is talking to multiple sources within the RAMS and
• 8:33
Speaker 1: with Sean, that makes the most sense if he were
• 8:35
Speaker 1: to walk away, was it goes away. He's still involved
• 8:39
Speaker 1: with the team in some capacity, whether that be assisting
• 8:42
Speaker 1: with the draft or popping in here and there, but
• 8:44
Speaker 1: he would have conversations with the RAMS and how that
• 8:46
Speaker 1: would go. And they do hire either an interim coach
• 8:50
Speaker 1: from internal, which would be like a Rahey Morris or
• 8:53
Speaker 1: someone like that, or they hire an external coach who's
• 8:55
Speaker 1: willing going and knowing this might just be a one
• 8:57
Speaker 1: year deal, and look, it might be forever. McVay might
• 9:00
Speaker 1: never come back, but I think the expectation is that
• 9:04
Speaker 1: he eventually would come back and just needs some time away.
• 9:07
Speaker 1: Whether that's one season, two seasons, I don't know, but
• 9:12
Speaker 1: that one season would give a coach who might not
• 9:15
Speaker 1: get a head coaching opportunity elsewhere, the opportunity to show
• 9:18
Speaker 1: his chops. That might give a coach that doesn't necessarily
• 9:21
Speaker 1: have the name um that that other coaches in the
• 9:24
Speaker 1: league already have who are interviewing, give them a chance
• 9:26
Speaker 1: to put them on the radar. I would imagine the
• 9:28
Speaker 1: coaching hire would be inspired and would have input from
• 9:31
Speaker 1: not only Sean McVeigh um, but from a lot of
• 9:34
Speaker 1: different people within the Rams organization. Could be internal, could
• 9:37
Speaker 1: be external. Could be someone who's used to work for
• 9:39
Speaker 1: the Rams and is now somewhere else and is looking
• 9:42
Speaker 1: to get back with the Rams um. But I think,
• 9:44
Speaker 1: no matter what, if Sean takes a year away or
• 9:46
Speaker 1: he stays, that important period right now before the draft
• 9:51
Speaker 1: is going to be spent on mental health, spent on
• 9:54
Speaker 1: recharging the batteries, and spent on re prioritizing what he
• 9:58
Speaker 1: wants to do. And this guy's only thirty six, he
• 9:59
Speaker 1: has no kids, but he's got a lot of responsibilities
• 10:02
Speaker 1: within that building and also a lot of stuff that's
• 10:05
Speaker 1: been going on in his life. I don't he would
• 10:06
Speaker 1: mind me sharing that. Um, his grandfather was his mentor,
• 10:10
Speaker 1: his grandfather was his beacon as far as football goes,
• 10:13
Speaker 1: and his grandfather's passing, uh was not sudden, but was
• 10:17
Speaker 1: something that really affected him. I also think his wife's family,
• 10:22
Speaker 1: many of whom are in Ukraine right now. The handling
• 10:25
Speaker 1: of how do you manage that on a day to
• 10:27
Speaker 1: day basis, that's not a one week thing. That is
• 10:29
Speaker 1: an ongoing thing, and the toll that that has taken
• 10:33
Speaker 1: on not only his wife, Veronica's family, but his his
• 10:37
Speaker 1: own being and every day, you know, having to try
• 10:40
Speaker 1: to get the good news coming there and whether that's
• 10:42
Speaker 1: coming or not, and what he can do to help,
• 10:44
Speaker 1: and how to be a better husband and better family member.
• 10:46
Speaker 1: All that stuff is real, uh. And there's a lot
• 10:49
Speaker 1: of other little things paper cuts along the way that
• 10:51
Speaker 1: would add up. But the truth of the matter is
• 10:53
Speaker 1: he has been NonStop football seven since he got the
• 10:57
Speaker 1: job in and you can say, all these guys are,
• 11:00
Speaker 1: but I think that he has enough self awareness to know.
• 11:03
Speaker 1: And the flip side is he also has enough self
• 11:04
Speaker 1: awareness to know. The longer this drags on, the more
• 11:07
Speaker 1: this puts other coaches in a bad position looking for jobs,
• 11:10
Speaker 1: or this puts his players in a weird position knowing
• 11:13
Speaker 1: whether they want to come back to the Rams or not,
• 11:15
Speaker 1: And it puts a team in a tough position. So
• 11:17
Speaker 1: I would imagine before the Super Bowl or combine will
• 11:23
  Speaker 1: have a better ideal. But I don't think he's gonna
• 11:25
Speaker 1: make a decision in the next couple of days. That's
• 11:28
Speaker 1: the McVeigh deal. Lastly, Kingsbury spoke to him for about
• 11:32
Speaker 1: an hour yesterday. Again, I don't think I'm betraying his
• 11:35
Speaker 1: confidence in me telling you this. I said, it was
• 11:38
Speaker 1: actually a really good conversation with bid Will. Uh. Mr
• 11:41
Speaker 1: Bidwill came in and like he had a really emotional farewell,
• 11:44
Speaker 1: Like bid Will and Cliff really got along, and Cliff
• 11:48
Speaker 1: really liked bid Will. Um four and thirteen was just
• 11:51
Speaker 1: not the season that the Cardinals expected and someone has
• 11:55
Speaker 1: to pay for that, and it looks like it's going
• 11:57
Speaker 1: to be the head coach. But I thought Bidwill's comments
• 11:59
Speaker 1: were classy. Afterwards, he said, uh, you know, no one
• 12:02
Speaker 1: works harder. I've never been around a harder working coach. Again,
• 12:05
Speaker 1: same thing. And I'm not saying because Cliff is single
• 12:07
Speaker 1: and you know it doesn't have a wife and doesn't
• 12:09
Speaker 1: have a family, and that this is like what his
• 12:11
Speaker 1: But Kingsbury lived at the Arizona Cardinals building. And you
• 12:14
Speaker 1: might say, well, well, how they only win four games.
• 12:17
Speaker 1: Let's just go real quick through this thing. A quarterback
• 12:19
Speaker 1: gets the injury, he goes down. You know, they were
• 12:22
Speaker 1: making things work with Colte McCoy for a while. He
• 12:24
Speaker 1: goes down. They go to Mexico City, the offensive line
• 12:28
Speaker 1: coach gets in some some drama there. They get back
• 12:32
Speaker 1: the GM. Uh, you know, it takes a leave of absence,
• 12:35
Speaker 1: and that leave of absence ended up being for the
• 12:37
Speaker 1: rest of the season, and eventually that's that for him.
• 12:40
Speaker 1: So you're talking about no offensive line coach, no quarterback,
• 12:44
Speaker 1: no GM. And you know Kingsbury didn't say a word.
• 12:47
Speaker 1: He didn't once, you know, say w wait a second,
• 12:50
Speaker 1: this is not fair or make excuses. He just kind
• 12:53
Speaker 1: of ate it and he'll eat it. And guess what
• 12:55
Speaker 1: he'll eat guaranteed paychecks for the next five years. This
• 12:58
Speaker 1: is the part I think people don't even know when
• 13:00
Speaker 1: to talk about the NFL coaching situation. The contracts are guaranteed,
• 13:05
Speaker 1: so in one way, talking to Cliff yesterday, there was
• 13:08
Speaker 1: this feeling of, you know, we didn't get it done,
• 13:10
Speaker 1: and also I feel bad for my assistant coaches because
• 13:13
Speaker 1: you know, it's all they have to uproot their lives.
• 13:16
Speaker 1: But on the other end of it is I didn't
• 13:19
Speaker 1: ask to get fired. I didn't quit, and now I
• 13:23
Speaker 1: get five years of guaranteed paychecks until seven. That means
• 13:28
Speaker 1: every two weeks a direct deposit hits and it comes
• 13:30
Speaker 1: from the Arizona Cardinals until Uh. He's very quick to say,
• 13:35
Speaker 1: don't cry for me, I'll be all right, and he's
• 13:36
Speaker 1: gonna do his best to make sure those assistant coaches
• 13:40
Speaker 1: land somewhere on new staffs. He's not doing anything until
• 13:43
Speaker 1: those guys all find their footing somewhere. Uh. But Kingsbury,
• 13:47
Speaker 1: I don't think he's rushing to get back to coaching.
• 13:49
Speaker 1: Everyone's talking about him going to the Patriots being offensive coordinator.
• 13:52
Speaker 1: I don't see that. I think he's gonna take some time.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: It's been a grueling twelve months for him. Uh, and
• 13:57
  Speaker 1: he's getting paid out, so it's a paid vacation. He's
• 14:00
Speaker 1: gonna use it and he'll assess what he wants to
• 14:02
Speaker 1: do next. Contract wise, it's interesting in his deal there's
• 14:04
Speaker 1: offset language. So say he was to go and Aaron,
• 14:08
Speaker 1: give me any NFL team that needs an offensive you
• 14:11
Speaker 1: might want an offensive coordinator. You just name any team, really, Okay,
• 14:15
Speaker 1: So say the Colts they hire um, you know whoever,
• 14:19
Speaker 1: they hire Hardball as their coach. I'm just putting that
• 14:21
Speaker 1: out there, and Hardball hires Kingsburyer's offensive coordinator. And money wise,
• 14:26
  Speaker 1: let's say I don't know what Cliff was making. Let's
• 14:27
Speaker 1: say Cliff was making three million dollars with the Cardinals,
• 14:30
Speaker 1: all right, and let's say the Colts say, will give
• 14:32
Speaker 1: you one million to be our offensive coordinator. The Cardinals
• 14:36
Speaker 1: still have to pay him the two million. It offsets,
• 14:38
Speaker 1: so it's it's abtracted from what you're making with that team,
• 14:42
Speaker 1: and then you get that money left over. So even
• 14:44
Speaker 1: if he was to take you know, five thousand dollars
• 14:48
Speaker 1: to be an offensive lot and offensive coordinator or a
• 14:50
Speaker 1: quarterback coach, the Cardinals have to then eat the rest
• 14:53
Speaker 1: of that cost. It's it's wild. You know a lot
• 14:56
Speaker 1: of people are like, why isn't Adam Gates. We haven't
• 14:58
Speaker 1: heard from Adam Gates. Adam Gaze was doing that with
• 15:00
Speaker 1: two teams with the Jets and Dolphins, Like it's it's
• 15:03
Speaker 1: the truth, Like Adam Gates was making a lot of
• 15:05
Speaker 1: money the last few years. And it's just what it is.
• 15:08
Speaker 1: When you're a fired head coach, you're gonna be okay financially.
• 15:11
Speaker 1: When you're a fired offensive coordinator or a fired offensive
• 15:15
Speaker 1: line coach, right, it's not the same. You're not making
• 15:17
Speaker 1: the same money and some of those contracts aren't as guaranteed.
• 15:19
Speaker 1: But uh, Kingsbury's gonna be all right. I don't know
• 15:22
Speaker 1: about that job. And I really like the Cardinals organization.
• 15:25
Speaker 1: I think bid Will is a good man and I
• 15:26
Speaker 1: think he wants to win. And look, he's eating these costs.
• 15:29
Speaker 1: He knows how much it costs. To fire Cliff is
• 15:30
Speaker 1: a real bold move because you're ripping off the band aid.
• 15:33
Speaker 1: But the fans wanted it and it was time to
• 15:35
Speaker 1: start a new But you gotta find a GM, gotta
• 15:37
Speaker 1: find a coach. Kyler is probably not ready for the
• 15:39
Speaker 1: start of the season, and you're looking at a roster
• 15:41
Speaker 1: that has, you know, DeAndre Hopkins probably at a different
• 15:46
Speaker 1: stage of his career than he was. You're looking around,
• 15:48
Speaker 1: you're like, all right, we got two linebackers the last
• 15:50
Speaker 1: couple of drafts, and Zaven Collins and and uh Isaiah
• 15:55
Speaker 1: Simmons who haven't really developed in the way that you'd
• 15:57
Speaker 1: expect first round players to do. Like, I don't see
• 15:59
Speaker 1: what's there. So again, true rebuild, great place to live, Arizona,
• 16:05
Speaker 1: low pressure market. So you kind of like that if
• 16:08
  Speaker 1: you're a coach, knowing that it's you're gonna have some
• 16:10
Speaker 1: time to at least get your footing. But between Indianapolis, Houston, Arizona, Denver, Carolina, UM,
• 16:20
Speaker 1: it'll be interesting over the next few days. The one
• 16:22
Speaker 1: name I would mention and we haven't had him on
• 16:23
Speaker 1: the podcast yet, and I kind of regret not getting
• 16:26
Speaker 1: him on, and I think he's gonna be a head
• 16:28
Speaker 1: coach is Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator of the Lions. Um.
• 16:32
Speaker 1: I'm just hearing a lot of good things, and I
• 16:34
Speaker 1: think the way that they came out and performed uh
• 16:37
Speaker 1: Sunday against the Packers in a game that they were
• 16:40
Speaker 1: technically eliminated from and then giving it. They're all at
• 16:42
Speaker 1: Green Bay. How about this. I'd be very surprised if
• 16:47
Speaker 1: Ben Johnson isn't it a a head coach. And I know
• 16:49
Speaker 1: people want to say, well, what about this guy? What
• 16:51
Speaker 1: about that guy? I'm not I'm not look, I'm not
• 16:53
Speaker 1: weighing in on anything about other guys. I'd be surprised
• 16:56
Speaker 1: if thirty six year old offensive coordinator math major in
• 17:01
Speaker 1: college played quarterback at North Carolina like you you could,
• 17:05
Speaker 1: and then was with Dolphins and Dan Campbell got him
• 17:08
Speaker 1: here in uh, of course, in in Detroit, and he's
• 17:12
Speaker 1: been outstanding and creative and he's a communicator, so not
• 17:17
Speaker 1: a household name. But I'd say, if we're doing this
• 17:20
Speaker 1: at Super Bowl Week, I would be surprised if Ben
• 17:22
  Speaker 1: Johnson wasn't a quarterback. Guys. We've got a sponsor to
• 17:27
Speaker 1: this season with Peter Schreeger. I'm told that's great news. Uh.
• 17:30
Speaker 1: And it's DraftKings, who I've been partners with for many years,
• 17:34
Speaker 1: UH through the NFL Network and Good Morning Football. Let's
• 17:37
Speaker 1: get into the playoff preview presented by DraftKings Sports Book.
• 17:41
Speaker 1: I'm gonna focus on one game, and that is Seattle
• 17:44
Speaker 1: in San Francisco. Right now, we're looking at the point spread,
• 17:47
Speaker 1: as the forty Niners are ten point favorites. The over
• 17:49
Speaker 1: under is forty two and a half, and if you
• 17:52
Speaker 1: want to be real bold, the money line is a
• 17:54
Speaker 1: plus four hundred for Seattle and minus five hundred for
• 17:57
Speaker 1: San Francisco. I'm gonna focus on one player and one
• 18:00
Speaker 1: player only, and that is brock Purty. I went on
• 18:04
Speaker 1: Good Morning Football on on Tuesday morning of this week
• 18:07
Speaker 1: and I said that brock Purty should be the offensive
• 18:08
Speaker 1: rookie of the year, and I got scoffed, I got
• 18:11
Speaker 1: laughed at. Jason McCurdy almost threw a pen at me
• 18:14
Speaker 1: because party has played five games. But I think what
• 18:17
Speaker 1: brock Purty has done over the last five weeks is
• 18:20
Speaker 1: as impressive as anything that any rookie has done over
• 18:22
Speaker 1: the whole entire seventeen game season. Bertie came in in
• 18:26
Speaker 1: the most adverse situations, thrown into the mix as a Mr.
• 18:30
Speaker 1: Irrelevant last pick in the draft, and not only has
• 18:33
Speaker 1: exceeded his expectations, He's been better than Trey Lance, He's
• 18:36
Speaker 1: been better than Jimmy Garoppolo, and he has the forty
• 18:39
Speaker 1: Niners offense playing it's best football of the year. I
• 18:43
Speaker 1: know this is division rivalry. I know that Seattle and
• 18:46
Speaker 1: San Francisco has a ton, a ton of history. I
• 18:49
Speaker 1: also know that San Francisco is likely going to wax
• 18:52
Speaker 1: the Seahawks this weekend. No Jordan Brooks on the defensive
• 18:56
Speaker 1: side for Seattle. Rock Purty getting more and more confidence
• 19:00
Speaker 1: as the week goes on, and I think brock Purty
• 19:02
Speaker 1: is a strength, not a weakness for the San Francisco
• 19:05
Speaker 1: forda Nanits You're gonn see a lot of analysis this
• 19:07
Speaker 1: week saying well, it's brock Purty's inexperience, going into how
• 19:12
Speaker 1: many rookies do the Seahawks have. They have two rookies
• 19:14
Speaker 1: that offensive tackle, They've got Kenneth Walker, They've got to Requall,
• 19:17
  Speaker 1: and they've got boy A mafe Gino Smith doesn't isn't
• 19:20
Speaker 1: exactly Tom Brady with his playoff experience. And I think
• 19:23
Speaker 1: that San Francisco is gonna be rocking early Saturday. Fans
• 19:27
Speaker 1: are gonna come out and droves. I love the Seahawks
• 19:29
Speaker 1: fan base. This game was being played in Seattle like
• 19:32
Speaker 1: it was a few Thursday nights ago. Maybe I say
• 19:34
Speaker 1: Seattle as a shot, but uh, I might regret this
• 19:37
Speaker 1: decision and being so blunt about this. I think the
• 19:39
Speaker 1: forty Niners take care of business, and I think brock
• 19:41
Speaker 1: Purty has a day. That was the playoff preview presented
