- 0:01Speaker 1: The Worlds Original podcast. This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by
- 0:10Speaker 1: Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota dot Com.
- 0:17Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots training Camp twenty twenty five.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm Fred Kirsch, joined by Paul Perillo, Evan Lazar, Mike Dussault,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and we are gonna be here with you for the
- 0:29Speaker 1: first day of public training camp.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We are excited. The weather is beautiful.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We're high above the practice fields here at Gillette Stadium
- 0:37Speaker 1: and we're gonna bring you everything we can uh from
- 0:40Speaker 1: practice today. Join us after practice as well. Duce and
- 0:45Speaker 1: Paul and Evan will have wrap ups. But it's a
- 0:47Speaker 1: big day for the Patriots and for Patriots fans as
- 0:50Speaker 1: we kick off training camp. And guys, let's jump right
- 0:54Speaker 1: into it. What are you most excited about.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm just excited that football's back, and you know we're
- 0:59Speaker 3: gonna be a slow build to real football, but it's
- 1:02Speaker 3: always a fun feeling here, first day of school, everybody back,
- 1:05Speaker 3: seeing the media down there from Vrabel again a few minutes,
- 1:09Speaker 3: but just to get going, I think that's the biggest thing.
- 1:11Speaker 3: And as I said on Patriots unfiltered yesterday. Once we
- 1:14Speaker 3: get through this day with that car, let's get the pads.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Then we want to get to the preseason. Say, but
- 1:18Speaker 3: we're starting the train rolling, So I think it's it's
- 1:19Speaker 3: always exciting.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, there is an energy, right So this has
- 1:23Speaker 4: been around the team, I think the entire offseason since
- 1:25Speaker 4: Rabel was announced as the new head coach. I think
- 1:27Speaker 4: there's been a renewed energy and enthusiasm and I'm going
- 1:31Speaker 4: to be easy. What am I excited about Drake May?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:33Speaker 4: You know, the quarterback is to me, the marquee guy
- 1:35Speaker 4: on any team, and the Patriots have a young and
- 1:38Speaker 4: talented one. I want to see what it.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Looks like in you tube.
- 1:41Speaker 5: There's a little bit of extra juice driving into the
- 1:43Speaker 5: building today. You did feel it a little bit in
- 1:45Speaker 5: the car.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Twenty seventh training camp for me, and I'm feeling it.
- 1:50Speaker 5: I feel the song that you were ping on the
- 1:51Speaker 5: radio I did Crazy Train. Yeah, so it was. You
- 1:58Speaker 5: do feel a little bit of that extra juice. But
- 2:00Speaker 5: I think overall kind of in the same lines of Deuce.
- 2:03Speaker 5: It's just there's so much optimism right now with this team.
- 2:06Speaker 5: It really feels like the coaching's better, the roster's better.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Drake May is obviously exciting as well. So let's see it.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Let's all let's start to put this thing together and see,
- 2:15Speaker 5: you know, where they can go from here.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Just not to oversimplify it, but I mean this year,
- 2:20Speaker 3: Stefan Diggs, Milton Williams two names that you're going to
- 2:22Speaker 3: see come out here that are you know, legit, blue
- 2:25Speaker 3: chip proven players in this league, something they haven't had
- 2:28Speaker 3: enough of the last few years. I'm excited to see
- 2:29Speaker 3: those guys, new faces out there hopefully can elevate both
- 2:32Speaker 3: sides of the ball.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm excited about everything you guys just mentioned,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and just the fact that we got a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 1: Christmas presents and we haven't been able to open them yet.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You know, we saw some glimpses of them, but now
- 2:46Speaker 1: you know, we're really gonna see the stuff that we
- 2:49Speaker 1: got in the off season. You know, throughout training camp
- 2:53Speaker 1: mentioned the joint practices. That'll be a big day. So
- 2:56Speaker 1: it's it's exciting to see what.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Do we got.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I think we've opened them, we just can't play with them. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 3: I know what it is. I just I can't wait
- 3:04Speaker 3: to see it. Play this new step on things, doll,
- 3:06Speaker 3: it's gonna be exciting. So it's no some some you know.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I think the other thing is the team is generally
- 3:12Speaker 3: healthy too. It's a good sign the pup list coming
- 3:14Speaker 3: out for Abel saying that, you know, expecting Jelani Tavai
- 3:17Speaker 3: to be back out there, Carlton Davis, a couple guys
- 3:19Speaker 3: that popped up on those lists last week. So encouraging
- 3:22Speaker 3: health to start camp. Of course, that's a baseline for
- 3:25Speaker 3: every NFL team right now. Guys get hurt, how do
- 3:28Speaker 3: you deal with it? How do you overcome those injuries?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yep, souh off the bat. We want to thank our sponsors.
- 3:33Speaker 1: We want to thank Brunt work where, we want to
- 3:36Speaker 1: thank Bob's discount furniture, Bridge Stone, we want to thank
- 3:42Speaker 1: Visit m A and of course we want to think
- 3:43Speaker 1: thank by a.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Toyota are our main sponsor for Patriots.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I filter we'll talk more about them a little later,
- 3:49Speaker 1: but I do want to remind fans or let you
- 3:52Speaker 1: know for the first time that if you want to
- 3:54Speaker 1: go on a road with the Patriots this year, you
- 3:57Speaker 1: get into the Patriots Road Trip raffle for your chance
- 4:00Speaker 1: to travel to New Orleans as the Patriots take on
- 4:03Speaker 1: the Saints on October twelfth. One lucky fan received two
- 4:06Speaker 1: tickets on a private charter to the game, tickets to
- 4:10Speaker 1: the game, hotel, accommodations, and a lot more enter for
- 4:13Speaker 1: a chance to win for just ten bucks. All the
- 4:16Speaker 1: pro seeds benefit the Patriots Foundation. So you can purchase
- 4:20Speaker 1: your tickets at Patriots dot com slash community, So you
- 4:25Speaker 1: might want to do that. If you want to travel
- 4:26Speaker 1: with the team this year, that should be a good
- 4:30Speaker 1: a good little getaway.
- 4:31Speaker 4: You might get to rub elbows what everyone's are.
- 4:33Speaker 5: I was gonna say, private charter, does that mean the.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Probably New Orleans is a great place to go visit
- 4:42Speaker 1: in good place to go see a football game too,
- 4:44Speaker 1: So that's exciting.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So that.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Was the one I had circle that in Tampa were
- 4:51Speaker 5: the two ones that I'm most excited about the seasons.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Okay, I hear dogs barking. The Patriots are doing a
- 4:58Speaker 1: dog adoption event today so people can come and adopt
- 5:04Speaker 1: puppies that are being brought onto the field.
- 5:07Speaker 2: We'll see that in a bit.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Players are going to be bringing up actually bringing the
- 5:11Speaker 1: dogs up to the field. So you see that, you
- 5:15Speaker 1: see fans starting to fill for the bleachers. Slow arrival today.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, well.
- 5:20Speaker 6: It seems like it's a I don't mean practice.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I don't think that's it's started for a while.
- 5:24Speaker 4: So we're starting. We should let everybody know we're starting
- 5:27Speaker 4: a little earlier than we normally would because of the
- 5:29Speaker 4: event that you were talking about. You know, the dogs
- 5:32Speaker 4: are going to be coming out, I think with some
- 5:33Speaker 4: of the players and whatnot. But Mike Brabel's press conference
- 5:36Speaker 4: is going to be in about ten minutes and we
- 5:37Speaker 4: will go to that one, which is a little earlier
- 5:39Speaker 4: than it normally would be forty five minutes before the
- 5:42Speaker 4: schedule start of practice, So we'll have Mike at nine thirty.
- 5:45Speaker 4: We'll go to him live, so we will be a
- 5:47Speaker 4: little bit and I think it is not necessarily a
- 5:50Speaker 4: late arriving crowd for I.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Just think it's still a little early.
- 5:52Speaker 4: Yeah, because I think this is you guys talked about
- 5:55Speaker 4: the weather. I think this is ideal for opening day.
- 5:57Speaker 3: You know, what I'm hoping for is that the players
- 5:59Speaker 3: coming up aren't carrying the dogs, but they also got
- 6:01Speaker 3: that dog in them. Paul, you know that's gonna be
- 6:03Speaker 3: a good sign for the team this year. My simplements, Mike.
- 6:06Speaker 4: That's why Evan and I are honored to be part
- 6:09Speaker 4: of your post practice podcast.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Well, we'll see about that. We'll see about that, Paul,
- 6:13Speaker 3: You're you're on your shaky ground right.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Well Fred said it, so now it's out there.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Well used to say about players, you say, you know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: if they don't bite when they're puppies, they won't bite
- 6:23Speaker 1: when they're dogs.
- 6:24Speaker 2: So you want to see a lot of the start.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You know, who's looking good, right? Looking?
- 6:29Speaker 4: Not a bad one right?
- 6:30Speaker 3: Right? Williams carrying a dog up that's just biting everybody.
- 6:33Speaker 3: You're like, this is a good sign. It's a good sign.
- 6:35Speaker 4: By Tony Tony Gator speaking of like training camp legends,
- 6:39Speaker 4: Tony Gator, he's like a train He's like a chained
- 6:41Speaker 4: up dog.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Man.
- 6:42Speaker 4: You let him do some I'm just gonna wild.
- 6:44Speaker 1: He came and went so many times on and off
- 6:47Speaker 1: the roster of that summer.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Yeah, he must have gotten cut at least ten ten times.
- 6:52Speaker 6: Yeah, like a year and a half.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Well, I got I gotta put you guys on the spot.
- 6:56Speaker 3: How many training camps is this for? The infamous tandem
- 6:59Speaker 3: of Kerse and Perilla. I mean, you guys, seventy seven
- 7:02Speaker 3: to seven together.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Is thirty or thirty one for me.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah, back in the days of Brian Oh, those were
- 7:08Speaker 1: the days that that was when training camp really was
- 7:11Speaker 1: training camp.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Thanks to your lemonade. I know you that was your
- 7:14Speaker 3: deb lemonade, right right, that fancy lemonade in college.
- 7:18Speaker 1: But those were, you know, the two a days, those
- 7:21Speaker 1: really tough practices for the players.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Would what would you guys do covering those games where
- 7:26Speaker 3: you have a double session, So would you cover the
- 7:28Speaker 3: morning session, hang out, have lunch, maybe write something off
- 7:30Speaker 3: the morning session, then watch the afternoon session, write something
- 7:34Speaker 3: like that, you know, because there.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Was on internet where I actually stayed at Brian College
- 7:38Speaker 4: really the doms really oh yeah, that's great.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah, up on the punk fence.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I mean it was a long day. It was it
- 7:44Speaker 2: was hot, Yeah, it was hot.
- 7:46Speaker 1: You do the morning uh, and then you'd have lunch,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, we go back then we could eat with
- 7:51Speaker 1: the players, so we were in the cafeteria at Brian College.
- 7:55Speaker 5: I never got to the players that had already changed
- 7:57Speaker 5: by the time.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Really uh.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And then you'd come out in the afternoon. Now, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: we were doing the newspaper back then, right, so we
- 8:06Speaker 1: had various people who would work for us in the
- 8:10Speaker 1: summer and sit out on the field and sell subscriptions
- 8:13Speaker 1: to people.
- 8:14Speaker 2: One of them was Mars Gasper.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Oh really, who later went on to the Boston Globe.
- 8:18Speaker 4: But I know, you guys laugh at me when I
- 8:20Speaker 4: called Fred the kingmaker.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Oh no, I remember Chris, would you know?
- 8:24Speaker 1: He'd trudge out to the practice field with his little
- 8:26Speaker 1: cash box and his in his you know, papers, subscription
- 8:31Speaker 1: pad and people would come up and he'd fill it
- 8:34Speaker 1: out and sell.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Them subscriptions to the newspaper right there on the field.
- 8:37Speaker 3: That's how you got to start. I didn't know that
- 8:39Speaker 3: was another one. Well you said it, Paul, he's a kingmaker.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Gasper was in that list as well. But ye's totally different.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I mean, it's not like you watched the morning practice
- 8:47Speaker 3: put a blog post up about it. You're building a newspaper,
- 8:51Speaker 3: so I imagine it's a little more measured about what you're
- 8:54Speaker 3: choosing to write about from practice.
- 8:55Speaker 4: It is absolutely you know, most of it. We get
- 9:00Speaker 4: to tour the newspaper and when we would put updates
- 9:02Speaker 4: up on the on the website. But the website was
- 9:04Speaker 4: nothing college. It was the scope of what we right
- 9:07Speaker 4: now is y my years, Like it was.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So bare bones back then.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You know, you were lucky to have the roster up
- 9:13Speaker 1: on the internet back then, you know, so, like Paul said,
- 9:17Speaker 1: the focus, our main attention was the newspaper.
- 9:21Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I mean no podcasts.
- 9:23Speaker 3: No, I mean you weren't really doing a TV I
- 9:24Speaker 3: mean maybe you had a TV show or somebody.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Like, well, we had We've always had the TV show.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Ninety seven, we were the first really company in the
- 9:33Speaker 1: world to have a nightly made for the Internet show.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It was called Patriot Cyber Sideline.
- 9:39Speaker 4: And we did that every day of training Camp. That
- 9:41Speaker 4: was basically the Training Camp podcast of its time, only
- 9:44Speaker 4: it was a video show and it was new.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It was a news show basically, you know.
- 9:49Speaker 4: We would have a host and Brian Morey and I
- 9:52Speaker 4: would alternate having to do a story. We'd be like Dan.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Roach, Caroline Jones.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I'm Caroline Jones. She was the host, and and we
- 10:01Speaker 4: would you know, like Paul Parrello, Patriots Cyber Sideline.
- 10:05Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Cyber Sideline.
- 10:07Speaker 5: It was bad.
- 10:08Speaker 4: It was I was not that wasn't I was. I
- 10:11Speaker 4: was not Dan Roach, but Dan Roach.
- 10:14Speaker 2: People were watching.
- 10:15Speaker 1: They were using dial up modems and and so you know,
- 10:19Speaker 1: whether or not you connected was.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Always a mystery.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But we did that every night, and like I said,
- 10:26Speaker 1: no one had done that before.
- 10:27Speaker 2: When had done that before?
- 10:28Speaker 6: And now here we are.
- 10:30Speaker 4: So Mike Greese had done it, you know before me? Again, Kingmaker,
- 10:34Speaker 4: Mike Grease was was me before me? And uh he
- 10:37Speaker 4: had We're going to start with two words. Salary cat
- 10:43Speaker 4: you know, funny explained the whole sund.
- 10:45Speaker 2: When when we were thinking of doing this.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You know, sounds exciting, you know, how do you How
- 10:50Speaker 1: do you do live video on the internet because people
- 10:52Speaker 1: were doing audio but not really video. So I called
- 10:55Speaker 1: this company in Dallas called audio Net, and guy picked
- 10:59Speaker 1: up the phone Mark Cuban and iplained to what we
- 11:04Speaker 1: wanted to do. He's like, well, we can do audio. No, no, no,
- 11:07Speaker 1: We're already doing live audio. We want to do live videos. Like, well,
- 11:11Speaker 1: we're not there yet. I'm like, okay, Finally I found
- 11:14Speaker 1: this company by Mit and they helped us do it.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Mark Cuban missed out on another billion if he had
- 11:22Speaker 3: just listened to Kurt back in the day.
- 11:24Speaker 4: He tried to make another can to try.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Mark Cuban's like, I got.
- 11:28Speaker 1: This, Yeah, so that that's a funny story from back
- 11:31Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety seven.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Wow, that's crazy, that's crazy.
- 11:35Speaker 4: I don't think I ever heard that story.
- 11:36Speaker 2: No.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Well, I later found out from somebody high up here
- 11:41Speaker 1: that he wanted to hire me and they wouldn't let him.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Talk about well innovator he could tell.
- 11:47Speaker 2: You, Yeah, I could have been like part owner of
- 11:51Speaker 2: the team.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I'm out he wouldn't have traded Luke.
- 11:55Speaker 5: No, I don't think I would have kept on held
- 11:58Speaker 5: on to him.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So we talked about you know what
- 12:02Speaker 1: we're excited about. What's the what's the thing I don't
- 12:08Speaker 1: want to say worried concern, but what's the thing that's
- 12:11Speaker 1: right now the biggest mystery to you, the thing that
- 12:15Speaker 1: the biggest unknown.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Yeah. I think there's a lot of them. I just
- 12:21Speaker 3: how big of the of a step is Drake gonna take?
- 12:23Speaker 3: I always start with Drake. That's what we do. The
- 12:25Speaker 3: quarterback is such an important position. Can you clean up
- 12:28Speaker 3: the turnovers? I think that's really where it has to start.
- 12:31Speaker 3: But I could also throw in the tackle positions. And
- 12:34Speaker 3: you feel good about what you've seen from Morgan Moses
- 12:36Speaker 3: what he said he's had a consistent career. Will Campbell
- 12:40Speaker 3: very highly touted prospect. We know, you know some of
- 12:42Speaker 3: the concerns with him with length, But can those two
- 12:45Speaker 3: guys solidify these pauses?
- 12:47Speaker 1: Well, we know that in training camp, which we really
- 12:50Speaker 1: have to wait until things are real.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I think he always had to wait
- 12:54Speaker 3: a little bit. But I think he'll have a sense,
- 12:56Speaker 3: you know, if he's sticking out there. I mean, I
- 12:57Speaker 3: mean the extreme cases. Uh oh, they're rotating somebody else
- 13:01Speaker 3: in right now.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I think he'll know if he's not doing right,
- 13:04Speaker 1: but if he and we'll get a sense if he
- 13:07Speaker 1: is doing well.
- 13:08Speaker 2: But we really won't know until the rush is live.
- 13:12Speaker 6: And joint practices being It will be a little practicing.
- 13:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 13:15Speaker 3: People might overblow some of the one on ones. That's
- 13:18Speaker 3: something you know, Oh he lost the one on one.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I try not to overact to some of those. But
- 13:23Speaker 3: you know, I think you'll have a sense of it.
- 13:25Speaker 3: But it's like anything. I mean, the running game is
- 13:27Speaker 3: probably the biggest mystery. I would say early in camp,
- 13:29Speaker 3: you just you have.
- 13:30Speaker 2: No idea every run looks like for a touchdown, and I.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Know today is a first and second down day. There'll
- 13:35Speaker 3: be a lot of first and second down stuff, so
- 13:37Speaker 3: there'll probably be a lot of runs off screen passes
- 13:39Speaker 3: that kind of stuff.
- 13:39Speaker 6: So, uh, you know that's slow ramp up. That's that's
- 13:42Speaker 6: the thing today.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you're new to this.
- 13:47Speaker 1: By NFL rules the collective Bargaining Agreement, they're not going
- 13:51Speaker 1: to be in pads today.
- 13:52Speaker 2: They won't be in pads until Monday. So it's it's.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Kind of like a walkthrough and actually the the light
- 14:00Speaker 1: the practice ramps up. So today today is the shortest
- 14:04Speaker 1: practice we'll see by rule. But right now I'm being
- 14:07Speaker 1: told that Mike Rabel is approaching the podium, so we're
- 14:11Speaker 1: gonna go to him.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Is he? Are we ready to do that?
- 14:14Speaker 4: So he's walking, he has that, he has a dog
- 14:16Speaker 4: in his hand, he's got a little bit, he's got
- 14:18Speaker 4: a waste to go. But like, why yeah, is that?
- 14:21Speaker 4: Is that?
- 14:21Speaker 5: Why that?
- 14:22Speaker 3: Personally?
- 14:23Speaker 4: That the one that got some some airtime today? I
- 14:26Speaker 4: start in the local news this morning, I saw our
- 14:28Speaker 4: own Steph Burnham getting some some primetime airtime.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Get right now with the dog the dog has I'm
- 14:34Speaker 2: gonna be on her.
- 14:35Speaker 4: She's trying to steal our jobs. I don't like it.
- 14:38Speaker 4: All right, so we'll listen to see what Mike hast
- 14:40Speaker 4: to say.
- 14:46Speaker 5: Knew it, knew it was Wyatt tell.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, right, Uh, can you open the sound where.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Because that's.
- 15:21Speaker 2: They're having issues that all right, I guess we have
- 15:27Speaker 2: some audio issues right now. But you can see, Mike,
- 15:32Speaker 2: you just can't hear.
- 15:34Speaker 3: It's one of those back to back press conference days
- 15:36Speaker 3: where I feel like you kind of laid everything out yesterday,
- 15:39Speaker 3: set the stage for camp, and now it's.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree.
- 15:41Speaker 3: So anything changed in the last twelve hours since we
- 15:43Speaker 3: last talked to you, Mike?
- 15:45Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 15:45Speaker 4: I agree, Mike. I thought, you know, the injury news
- 15:49Speaker 4: was relevant yesterday. You know, obviously Digs got most of
- 15:52Speaker 4: the attention, but there were other you know, Carlton Davis
- 15:54Speaker 4: being ready to go today to start camp after starting
- 15:57Speaker 4: on n F I so some of that stuff, Terrelle
- 16:00Speaker 4: William's returning. I think those are kinds of the things. What, Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 4: what would have changed between you know, eleven o'clock yesterday
- 16:09Speaker 4: at nine o'clock today, Probably when he screwed ub me
- 16:11Speaker 4: out a whole lot? He mentioned that everybody was expected
- 16:14Speaker 4: to be here, so I'm expecting to see, you know,
- 16:17Speaker 4: the whole eighty nine play or eighty eight players.
- 16:20Speaker 5: I guess today have ninety one actually.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Right, but there's three guys on list, so I'm expected
- 16:25Speaker 4: to see everybody.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Else corrected us yesterday about ninety one ninety.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I wasn't. I'm not trying to get called out
- 16:35Speaker 4: the way others in the media.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Day and when that could put viral to it's great,
- 16:40Speaker 5: it's all over social media.
- 16:42Speaker 6: It's just the beginning of it.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I was. I was talking to my dad this morning
- 16:45Speaker 3: and he's we always talked Patriots. He's like, oh, I'm excited,
- 16:47Speaker 3: you know, season gets going.
- 16:48Speaker 6: I'm gonna talkbout it.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I'm like going to tell you that so far Rabel
- 16:51Speaker 3: spend worth the price of admission just to listening to
- 16:53Speaker 3: him talk through the off season, in his press conferences.
- 16:55Speaker 6: Watching him in practices.
- 16:57Speaker 3: It's just it feels like he never left in some ways,
- 17:00Speaker 3: and I'll try to block out those years he was
- 17:02Speaker 3: in Tennessee because I didn't enjoy that.
- 17:04Speaker 4: But uh, but I picked him every.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Week I did.
- 17:08Speaker 3: That was more of a Derrek Henry thing, though maybe
- 17:10Speaker 3: iru Derek Henry made quite the impact on me in
- 17:13Speaker 3: my first joint practice. But but yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 2: I mean Dix.
- 17:17Speaker 3: You know that was another thing he said yesterday. Diggs's
- 17:20Speaker 3: is a you know testament aw already has worked. We'll
- 17:22Speaker 3: see how active he is here today as well as
- 17:25Speaker 3: you know Tobay, what does he look like? He got
- 17:26Speaker 3: hurt during during camp OTAs so is he you know
- 17:30Speaker 3: full go so.
- 17:31Speaker 4: To You know, a guy like that, you think there
- 17:32Speaker 4: was maybe a little urgency for him. I think I
- 17:35Speaker 4: gotta I gotta get back.
- 17:36Speaker 5: I gotta be ready to go.
- 17:37Speaker 4: I can't give them any week because he's seen, you
- 17:39Speaker 4: know with a lot of the other sort of Bill
- 17:41Speaker 4: Slash Mayo holdovers.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Went yeah, yeah, you.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Know, the Juwan Bentleys and the David Andrews and kind.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I think the thing that's in Jilani Toba's favor, and
- 17:52Speaker 3: let's point out he's the leading tackler last year got
- 17:54Speaker 3: kind of put into a bat spot when when Jawan
- 17:56Speaker 3: Bentley went out.
- 17:57Speaker 6: So not ideal.
- 17:58Speaker 3: But of all the lineback, he's very versatile and you know,
- 18:01Speaker 3: I know, I don't know if that exactly fits like
- 18:03Speaker 3: what Rabel wants.
- 18:04Speaker 6: I think they called it, what is it the reducer?
- 18:07Speaker 3: What is it? Adjuster?
- 18:08Speaker 6: Thank you, you're welcome.
- 18:10Speaker 3: You know, the ability to shift from inside off the
- 18:12Speaker 3: ball to on the edge. So he has that versatility
- 18:16Speaker 3: that I think, you know, maybe could help him a
- 18:17Speaker 3: little bit. You saw him play.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Inside last year. Maybe not the best spot for him.
- 18:21Speaker 3: But I compare him to someone like Anthony Jennings, who
- 18:24Speaker 3: good solid, stand up, you know, edge setting outside linebacker.
- 18:29Speaker 3: But they tried to play him as a rookie inside
- 18:32Speaker 3: didn't go so well. They got away from that as
- 18:34Speaker 3: his career progressed and you saw that. You know, he
- 18:37Speaker 3: has a certain set of skills that apply to the NFL,
- 18:40Speaker 3: and you know, it's hard to say, maybe he doesn't
- 18:42Speaker 3: fit exactly what we do, but the guy can play,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and he's a tough player. You know, he's always in
- 18:47Speaker 3: the middle of all the whenever there's a skirmish, you know,
- 18:49Speaker 3: Anthony Jennings is sticking his nose right in the middle
- 18:51Speaker 3: of it. So I just love the attitude that he
- 18:53Speaker 3: plays with in the toughness. So we'll see here in
- 18:56Speaker 3: the next you know, a couple of weeks how those
- 18:57Speaker 3: guys fit into.
- 18:58Speaker 1: This skill, you know, sticking on the line backers subject.
- 19:01Speaker 1: You mentioned Bentley going down and that was a big
- 19:04Speaker 1: loss that that really threw everything into disarray when it
- 19:08Speaker 1: came to the linebackers because they really didn't have a replacement,
- 19:11Speaker 1: a true replacement for him.
- 19:12Speaker 4: So, Fred, you asked about ten minutes ago some of
- 19:15Speaker 4: the things that you're concerned about most or you know,
- 19:17Speaker 4: unsure about. I guess how you how you phrased it,
- 19:22Speaker 4: And and my answer to that is always about depth.
- 19:24Speaker 4: And that's an area specifically. Robert Splaine to me, is
- 19:28Speaker 4: one of one.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I would worry if they lost at his
- 19:31Speaker 2: audio Now.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I guess not, well, I can't hear it, so all right,
- 19:40Speaker 1: So so back back to the linebackers.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you know, I mean I would here
- 19:46Speaker 3: we go.
- 19:47Speaker 7: That's presentation, which is critical. And the one thing that
- 19:52Speaker 7: you know I tried to reference to our football team
- 19:55Speaker 7: was like I went to attendant at doctor's dinner for
- 19:57Speaker 7: every doctor and nurse and every person that would come
- 20:01Speaker 7: in contact with our football team through the course of
- 20:04Speaker 7: the year.
- 20:05Speaker 8: And we're extremely lucky to be where we're at to
- 20:08Speaker 8: get that kind of care. We can get our MRIs,
- 20:11Speaker 8: we can get a lot of our lab work right
- 20:13Speaker 8: here at Patriot Place.
- 20:14Speaker 7: And the one thing that Jim Whale and our trainer
- 20:17Speaker 7: told us told me at that dinner because I was like,
- 20:19Speaker 7: there's a lot. I wouldn't expect them there to be
- 20:21Speaker 7: this many people, and he said that there is one.
- 20:24Speaker 7: We have one specialist per every three players, and whether
- 20:29Speaker 7: that's an orthopedic or whether that's a cardiologist, that is somebody,
- 20:35Speaker 7: a neurologist, anybody that would have to be in contact
- 20:39Speaker 7: with our players. We have a large group and we're
- 20:42Speaker 7: thankful they take care of us here at Patriot Place
- 20:46Speaker 7: at Brigham in Women's to be able to get in
- 20:48Speaker 7: an MRI and get back and be efficient so the
- 20:50Speaker 7: players can back and meetings, all these different things, you know,
- 20:53Speaker 7: the concussion, making sure that that presentation is presented.
- 20:56Speaker 8: So there's an extensive medical.
- 21:00Speaker 7: Equipment, you know, wearing the proper equipment and understanding what
- 21:03Speaker 7: that is about some of these young guys and their feet.
- 21:07Speaker 7: We covered a hotel, we covered security, we covered media
- 21:14Speaker 7: there for you guys. There's an immediate presentation that there's
- 21:18Speaker 7: a film that the league puts out. Uh and so
- 21:22Speaker 7: Stacey and I talked to them about that and you know,
- 21:24Speaker 7: so there's a long checklist.
- 21:27Speaker 1: You have to have a medical.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Job, Jim's experience and your own experience relationship with him
- 21:33Speaker 3: as long as he's been.
- 21:34Speaker 6: How valuable is that?
- 21:36Speaker 7: Well, Uh, you know, the trainer I worked with in
- 21:40Speaker 7: Tennessee was was a mentor for Jim as well, so
- 21:43Speaker 7: Todd Torris Selly, Jim had worked with him. So when
- 21:48Speaker 7: I left here, we still all stayed in contact because
- 21:50Speaker 7: I was working with Todd and Tennessee and Todd talked
- 21:52Speaker 7: to Jim a lot.
- 21:54Speaker 8: But there is a lot of comfort there.
- 21:55Speaker 7: There's a lot of experience on Jim's part, and so
- 22:00Speaker 7: we're just trying to give the players the best care
- 22:02Speaker 7: that we can as quickly as we can, and to
- 22:05Speaker 7: give each guy what they need.
- 22:06Speaker 8: So that's been that's been good.
- 22:09Speaker 7: And again we we always talk about these Some of
- 22:12Speaker 7: these injuries are going to be unavoidable. It's just how
- 22:16Speaker 7: we work from them and how we come back from
- 22:18Speaker 7: them is what's most important.
- 22:20Speaker 9: Like that's a moment in the video that the team
- 22:22Speaker 9: produced the Fortune of Foxborough show. I guess you'd call
- 22:27Speaker 9: it where the team is sort.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Of in between me, what did you call?
- 22:31Speaker 8: What is it? A docus?
- 22:34Speaker 2: That's probably a more apt for it.
- 22:37Speaker 5: And I'm the media guy, So a nice job by you.
- 22:41Speaker 9: The offensive sort of in between plays and you say
- 22:44Speaker 9: something to Drake like, hey, you've got a minute here,
- 22:46Speaker 9: talk to your guys. Why is that important to you?
- 22:50Speaker 9: How how naturally does that come to Drake to do
- 22:53Speaker 9: things like that? And you know how much of a
- 22:54Speaker 9: focus will that be for you as head coach to
- 22:56Speaker 9: kind of draw that out of it.
- 22:58Speaker 7: My job is to figure out what we need and
- 23:00Speaker 7: what each player needs and do everything that I can
- 23:03Speaker 7: to help them physically or mentally or emotionally, and I
- 23:08Speaker 7: try to recreate these practices the same way the game is.
- 23:11Speaker 7: The offense goes over there, we have a drive, the
- 23:13Speaker 7: last one play, three plays, eight plays, twelve plays, it
- 23:16Speaker 7: ends in six points, seven three points, whatever it ends in,
- 23:19Speaker 7: or a punt, and you go over there and you
- 23:22Speaker 7: have to talk to the coordinator. You're gonna talk to Josh,
- 23:24Speaker 7: but then the quarterback is gonna have to go up
- 23:27Speaker 7: and down and make sure, Hey, we just had this
- 23:29Speaker 7: happen on this last play.
- 23:30Speaker 8: If we get it again, this is all this defense
- 23:32Speaker 8: for the first time.
- 23:34Speaker 2: There's a lot of.
- 23:34Speaker 7: Things because it's always going to mean more coming from
- 23:38Speaker 7: the guy that's out there leading, and that's all. That
- 23:41Speaker 7: situation was no different than defensively, you're gonna go over there,
- 23:45Speaker 7: the linebackers and safeties are going to talk say hey,
- 23:47Speaker 7: we're gonna make this check or they're in this formation.
- 23:49Speaker 7: You know, we're gonna have to make sure that we
- 23:51Speaker 7: adjust to it quickly. Or if we get the same,
- 23:54Speaker 7: chances are if they had success with it, we're gonna.
- 23:56Speaker 8: See it again.
- 23:57Speaker 5: Milton Williams told us a story about you pushing him
- 24:00Speaker 5: and a conditioning drill. How has he responded to that
- 24:02Speaker 5: and what have you seen from him from a leadership
- 24:05Speaker 5: and conditioning Stampin.
- 24:06Speaker 7: Early on that was something that was important to Milk
- 24:09Speaker 7: was that he wanted to lead.
- 24:13Speaker 8: And there had been zero pushback. He is fun to coach.
- 24:17Speaker 7: He's very mature, and so there's zero reservation about his
- 24:24Speaker 7: leadership ability. He's here a lot. He's here all the time.
- 24:29Speaker 7: He shows up early, gets plenty of work in, takes
- 24:32Speaker 7: care of his body. He's a true pro.
- 24:34Speaker 3: At the end of the day.
- 24:35Speaker 9: What would make a successful training camp for your team
- 24:38Speaker 9: at the end of.
- 24:39Speaker 7: The summer, Well, if we can remember what the objectives
- 24:43Speaker 7: of training camp were, which were do you remember.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Said, no, that was yesterday?
- 24:52Speaker 8: Build a team? Remember Mike.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Earn a role.
- 24:58Speaker 7: Remember the last one, prepare to win. You guys are
- 25:01Speaker 7: on fire today. We're off to a great start. So
- 25:06Speaker 7: if we can do those things, there's a reason I
- 25:08Speaker 7: try to do this. I don't claim to be the
- 25:11Speaker 7: smartest person. So if I can just try to find
- 25:13Speaker 7: some things that I think are important for the team
- 25:16Speaker 7: and the individual and then kind of coming back to
- 25:18Speaker 7: the team.
- 25:19Speaker 8: So if it looks like we build.
- 25:21Speaker 7: A team and there's some cohesion and guys are enjoying
- 25:24Speaker 7: being around each other, are they competing, are they taking.
- 25:28Speaker 8: Care of each other?
- 25:30Speaker 7: And then are guys starting to figure out, hey, this
- 25:33Speaker 7: is gonna be my role. I'm going to go try
- 25:35Speaker 7: to dominate that on whatever that may be. And then ultimately,
- 25:39Speaker 7: are we understanding these situations and can we try to
- 25:41Speaker 7: win a football game so that that's what would be successful.
- 25:45Speaker 9: What do you look for in the leadership, Like what
- 25:47Speaker 9: do you want from your leaders but also your captains?
- 25:49Speaker 7: And well, I mean I think that every I hope
- 25:51Speaker 7: player and coach can be an extension of the message
- 25:54Speaker 7: that I have created and try to, you know, get
- 26:00Speaker 7: that across in their own words and stay consistent to it.
- 26:03Speaker 7: That's why we don't have a ton of stuff that
- 26:04Speaker 7: we try to talk about. We try to stay very
- 26:06Speaker 7: consistent and allow that to kind of branch off and
- 26:12Speaker 7: don't tell them what to say, but allow them to
- 26:14Speaker 7: have some some parameters and things that we're working for.
- 26:18Speaker 7: So we just hope that everybody carries that message over
- 26:21Speaker 7: here as they work to lead their unit or another position.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Thank you, all right?
- 26:30Speaker 1: That was Mike Rabel again apologize for the early audio issues.
- 26:35Speaker 2: But you got the gist of it.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Well it's we hear stories about Mike Crabel
- 26:39Speaker 3: liking to put players on their toes, asking them questions
- 26:42Speaker 3: off the top, and I think we just sat with
- 26:45Speaker 3: the media too, so I think we have to be
- 26:46Speaker 3: on our toes as well.
- 26:49Speaker 1: You know, it's funny because like Paul and I have
- 26:52Speaker 1: been here for a long time. This is my thirty
- 26:54Speaker 1: of thirty first training camp. Paul has been here for
- 26:57Speaker 1: twenty seven of them, and throughout that time, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 1: even though Bill Belichick was here for a long time.
- 27:03Speaker 1: We've seen different styles of coaches handling the media, and
- 27:07Speaker 1: it's very clear that Mike Rabel's got his own style.
- 27:10Speaker 1: You know, he likes to engage, he likes to prad
- 27:13Speaker 1: he likes to poke fun and he's kind of treating
- 27:17Speaker 1: the media, at least right now a little bit like
- 27:19Speaker 1: he does players. Like we heard from players that in
- 27:22Speaker 1: meetings he challenges them, he asks some questions, you know,
- 27:25Speaker 1: do you remember?
- 27:26Speaker 3: Do you do?
- 27:26Speaker 2: You know the answer?
- 27:27Speaker 1: And he's doing the same thing with the media here.
- 27:29Speaker 1: But you know, between Parcels, Pete Carroll, Bill Drod and
- 27:34Speaker 1: now Rabel, each of them have their own really distinct
- 27:37Speaker 1: styles and how they handle this.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Yeah, printant schoolers talked a little bit about that, where
- 27:43Speaker 3: he's like, you're not afraid of him, but you know
- 27:45Speaker 3: that he means business and.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Be on your P and Q to be on top.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Of you maybe a little bit, and you got to
- 27:52Speaker 2: be ready. And that's the idea is he wants guys
- 27:55Speaker 2: prepared and be ready.
- 27:57Speaker 3: I mean the Buttom line for me though, was that
- 28:00Speaker 3: it's funny, like it's just I enjoy listening to him.
- 28:02Speaker 3: The press conferences can be dry, they can be you know,
- 28:05Speaker 3: same questions, you know what's going to come, but he
- 28:07Speaker 3: seems to be thoughtful about his answers. They don't feel
- 28:10Speaker 3: like prepackaged and if you ask a dumb question or
- 28:13Speaker 3: you're not on your toes. He's you better be ready because.
- 28:15Speaker 6: He might call you out.
- 28:16Speaker 1: You see Robert Kraft down there with the puppies and
- 28:18Speaker 1: his wife Dana uh. And then you see the people
- 28:21Speaker 1: in the background who have adopted dogs. They're receiving their
- 28:27Speaker 1: dogs now, so that's pretty cool. Who doesn't love a puppy?
- 28:32Speaker 4: Paul, I thought we were going to put a moratorium
- 28:37Speaker 4: one day?
- 28:38Speaker 2: Are we doing that all right? Well?
- 28:40Speaker 3: As a new dog dad myself in March, I have
- 28:43Speaker 3: to say we've we've enjoyed our little zoop guy, even
- 28:46Speaker 3: though we still can't figure him out. Last night, barking,
- 28:48Speaker 3: barking like crazy. Every time my dad stands up, sits down, cuddle,
- 28:51Speaker 3: loves just no problem. Dogs chilling my dad the second
- 28:55Speaker 3: my dad stands up.
- 28:57Speaker 4: I'll tell you, Mike, every time you talk about your
- 28:59Speaker 4: new dog ownership.
- 29:00Speaker 5: It really makes you want to go out and change
- 29:02Speaker 5: that way.
- 29:02Speaker 2: You're not selling it very well.
- 29:07Speaker 5: We got to get some training, all right.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Let's let's help Paul out. What's the perfect breed of
- 29:14Speaker 2: dog for Paul?
- 29:15Speaker 3: Oh?
- 29:15Speaker 5: God, like, it's got to be something like a labb
- 29:18Speaker 5: or Golden Now does low energy and easy.
- 29:21Speaker 2: Labs are high energy?
- 29:23Speaker 5: No lab labs like the loafer around like you gotta
- 29:27Speaker 5: Paul is not You're not going to want to give
- 29:29Speaker 5: Paul a dog that stubborn or you know how it's
- 29:32Speaker 5: hard headed because he needs like a beginner dogs battle
- 29:36Speaker 5: he'll win.
- 29:36Speaker 2: No, absolutely, I mean labs are the friendliest stuff.
- 29:39Speaker 3: They're so easy.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you need a beginner dog for Pollie. You can't
- 29:43Speaker 5: you can't throw him like yeah, you throw him a
- 29:46Speaker 5: ridge back and he's you know, we're going to be
- 29:47Speaker 5: in trouble.
- 29:48Speaker 1: So if there's a what about a retriever, because then
- 29:51Speaker 1: he could get the diet pepsis, the you know, the
- 29:55Speaker 1: butt lights.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I thought of it that way.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I think we could all all get together on a
- 30:00Speaker 3: dog that might fetch us like a Jersey Mics perhaps,
- 30:02Speaker 3: you know, like go go.
- 30:03Speaker 6: Now, run down, run down Route one, go go ahead, and.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Boys like Alex from Strokes, Alex two Cold Strokes.
- 30:09Speaker 5: I just want Alice to help me, like with the
- 30:11Speaker 5: groceries and stuff. It's one hundred pounds, so it's like
- 30:13Speaker 5: can't like you're strong as hell. Can you help you
- 30:15Speaker 5: get a little wagon?
- 30:16Speaker 1: Yeah? Like if I tie the wagon to you, you
- 30:18Speaker 1: get a wagon with a rope and you pull the
- 30:20Speaker 1: wagon like a.
- 30:21Speaker 3: Dog, you know, put your brunt stuff on and get
- 30:24Speaker 3: hook them up to like what do you have like
- 30:25Speaker 3: a or something in the backyard and.
- 30:27Speaker 6: You're just planting a field.
- 30:29Speaker 5: I could see just face now you'd be like, what
- 30:31Speaker 5: are you doing to my dog?
- 30:32Speaker 1: So prediction to night's news, what gets more airtime? Dogs
- 30:37Speaker 1: are Drake made dogs?
- 30:38Speaker 6: I think you got to leave with the dogs.
- 30:40Speaker 3: But if Drake throws, you know, a nice pass. Those
- 30:43Speaker 3: those always are a highlight of camp practice. You know,
- 30:46Speaker 3: one which I'm sure our wonderful video content you know
- 30:49Speaker 3: team will capture they're on top of all those plays,
- 30:51Speaker 3: but uh, those are always the the you know, they
- 30:53Speaker 3: were like a moment, you know, we have one a
- 30:55Speaker 3: little bit. I guess it was more Gonzales probably in
- 30:58Speaker 3: that in that mini camp where he had that that
- 30:59Speaker 3: one handed pass. But there's always a little play that
- 31:01Speaker 3: you know, you come out talking about what does it
- 31:03Speaker 3: mean in the grand you know, the grand scheme of
- 31:05Speaker 3: the season. Maybe not much, but it's still those little
- 31:07Speaker 3: plays that that build your excitement, make you think they're
- 31:09Speaker 3: going to make some big plays in the games.
- 31:12Speaker 2: That's great.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Mike Rabel interacting with the pups. Robert Kraft taking pictures.
- 31:19Speaker 1: That's Kendrick Bourne. Marcus Willis was born in Marcus.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so you know how many dogs that you have
- 31:27Speaker 3: here today?
- 31:27Speaker 4: I think there were a fleet of dogs. I think
- 31:29Speaker 4: there were twenty twenty. I think that was the number
- 31:32Speaker 4: of stuff this morning.
- 31:34Speaker 5: Well, yep, I was told to bring one home and
- 31:37Speaker 5: I so, yeah, one a friend. This is what I
- 31:46Speaker 5: get once a week.
- 31:48Speaker 2: That's the famous heisman in Missus Kraft's arm.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Oh, I've heard about him now about I think come
- 31:54Speaker 3: up with heisman? Just I mean it's college football. R.
- 31:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:59Speaker 2: That's a good for a dog. I know.
- 32:01Speaker 3: I think it's a great name for a dog. I
- 32:02Speaker 3: just didn't know if there was. They got him from
- 32:05Speaker 3: somebody who won a Heisman maybe or something.
- 32:06Speaker 5: I don't know that it is him or her. I
- 32:09Speaker 5: met them in the admin level.
- 32:13Speaker 6: Don't know the dog's pronounce It.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Was running around and I'm just like, you know, a
- 32:17Speaker 5: dog person. So the next thing I know, there's Missus
- 32:19Speaker 5: Craft standing right in front of me.
- 32:21Speaker 3: You can't help it. Well, the guys are jogging out here.
- 32:26Speaker 5: I did see uh little notable Harold Landry appeared to
- 32:30Speaker 5: be the first player off the first guy I noticed.
- 32:32Speaker 5: I don't know if it was the first. That's a
- 32:34Speaker 5: guy at this sign in all seriousness to to kind
- 32:37Speaker 5: of set the tone and circle the wagons for Mike Brabel.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Certainly a Rabel guy going back to Tennessee. So I
- 32:43Speaker 5: don't think it's a total coincidence that he was made
- 32:47Speaker 5: it a point to be one of the first guys
- 32:48Speaker 5: out here, and I think he's one of those guys
- 32:50Speaker 5: that they signed for that purpose.
- 32:52Speaker 3: I want to ask you about him, Evan, because I
- 32:54Speaker 3: found myself just thinking about him a little bit as
- 32:57Speaker 3: we are wont to do you and I know sometimes
- 32:59Speaker 3: we're lying in bed pondering the Patriots roster where.
- 33:02Speaker 5: That means where it's like thinking about other girls, and it's.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Like football Lady was great under Rabel in Tennessee. Really,
- 33:08Speaker 3: you know, blossom there last year he still had nine sacks.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Tennessee releases him, Like where is he right now? I mean,
- 33:14Speaker 3: do you feel like we're getting a player who is
- 33:15Speaker 3: still geographically in Foxboro but in his career. Is he
- 33:20Speaker 3: still you know, at the peak of it, or do
- 33:23Speaker 3: you feel like you're kind of catching him as he's
- 33:24Speaker 3: starting to kind of Plateau down on the backside.
- 33:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:27Speaker 4: No, I think it's a good question to ask. I
- 33:30Speaker 4: feel like he still has production in him, but I
- 33:34Speaker 4: never really felt like he was one of these you know,
- 33:36Speaker 4: quote unquote elite pass rushers. You know, it's a couple
- 33:39Speaker 4: of guys that got forty plus million in this offseason
- 33:41Speaker 4: Miles Garrett T. J.
- 33:42Speaker 5: Watt.
- 33:43Speaker 4: I don't think that before the injury he was tracking
- 33:46Speaker 4: to something like that. Yeah, But I do think he's
- 33:48Speaker 4: a solid player, probably more than just a pass rusher,
- 33:52Speaker 4: more of it, for sure, more of an every down
- 33:54Speaker 4: you know, he'll play, stick his nose against the run
- 33:56Speaker 4: and set the edge and do those kinds of you know,
- 33:59Speaker 4: the dirty that you need to do. I think he's
- 34:01Speaker 4: more well rounded, but I wouldn't necessarily expect him to
- 34:05Speaker 4: go and you know, put up twenty sacks.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't think there's anyone on this team
- 34:10Speaker 1: capable of that. But I think if everything comes together
- 34:15Speaker 1: on that front seven, I think as a committee, I
- 34:19Speaker 1: think they're going to be productive and I think they're
- 34:20Speaker 1: going to be disruptive, and I think that's the style
- 34:23Speaker 1: that they want to play.
- 34:25Speaker 2: You know, I think we're.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Away from the big space eaters in the middle who
- 34:31Speaker 1: are really just there to clod things up and free
- 34:34Speaker 1: up people behind them. And now we're in a phase
- 34:37Speaker 1: of defense. It's kind of new to us where everyone is.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Trying to get up field, and.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I, like I said, if everything works out, I think
- 34:47Speaker 1: by committee they'll be productive.
- 34:49Speaker 2: When in that sack department.
- 34:50Speaker 5: Yeah, they might be high up there in like pressure
- 34:53Speaker 5: rates and win rates, but not necessarily high up there
- 34:56Speaker 5: in sacks, is the way I look at it. But
- 34:58Speaker 5: Landry and Paul used were well rounded, and that that's
- 35:01Speaker 5: the best word that I could come up with for
- 35:03Speaker 5: him too, because he's a really good run defender. He's
- 35:07Speaker 5: one of the better run defenders at his position. But
- 35:09Speaker 5: the big question is was last year a sign that
- 35:13Speaker 5: things were going down for him as a pass rusher
- 35:16Speaker 5: in his career or was it the scheme change that
- 35:19Speaker 5: he underwent with the coaching change in Tennessee. So can
- 35:22Speaker 5: we get the Harold Andry pass rusher from two years
- 35:24Speaker 5: ago with Mike Rabel and Trell Williams versus the guy
- 35:28Speaker 5: that played in Tennessee last year? If he can be
- 35:30Speaker 5: the guy that he was in twenty three, twenty two,
- 35:32Speaker 5: twenty one with Rabel and that staff down there. Then
- 35:36Speaker 5: that's a really productive all around player and guy that
- 35:39Speaker 5: that can play eighty eighty five percent of the snaps
- 35:42Speaker 5: and be a true starter on the defensive line. So
- 35:45Speaker 5: it'll be interesting to see was it a schematic change.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Was it that he's you know, maybe lost half a
- 35:50Speaker 5: step as a pass rusher? I guess we'll find out.
- 35:53Speaker 4: But further remove from the injury too, so you could
- 35:55Speaker 4: get maybe a you know, a half a step back. Yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 4: you know, you often see that, you know, a full year,
- 36:00Speaker 4: you know, after the season, after the injury is when.
- 36:04Speaker 5: And even if he's just cleaning up, but you know,
- 36:06Speaker 5: Milton Williams and Christian Barmore and Keon White are they're
- 36:10Speaker 5: the ones that are moving the quarterback off his spot
- 36:12Speaker 5: and pressuring the quarterback. Initially, harab Lander could be a
- 36:16Speaker 5: double digit sack guy just by cleaning up, that's right,
- 36:18Speaker 5: just getting the quarterback on the ground for those guys.
- 36:21Speaker 5: So I would expect a lot of that to him,
- 36:23Speaker 5: kind of mirroring the quarterback, staying level, you know, keeping
- 36:26Speaker 5: him in the pocket and letting those guys be the
- 36:28Speaker 5: ones that kind of push him to him and not
- 36:32Speaker 5: necessarily someone off the edge. He has to cheat the
- 36:34Speaker 5: guy be to tackle.
- 36:36Speaker 2: What do you think key On White's role is on
- 36:38Speaker 2: this type of defense because he was never even in college,
- 36:42Speaker 2: he's not a sack guy.
- 36:43Speaker 5: Yeah, he's not really fascinating to say they use what
- 36:46Speaker 5: do you think how.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Would you use You know, you're the savant, how would
- 36:49Speaker 1: you how would you use key On White? Assuming we're
- 36:52Speaker 1: correct and how we think they're going to scheme this defense,
- 36:55Speaker 1: how does he fit into that scheme?
- 36:57Speaker 5: Well, he's been one of the most versatile players in
- 36:59Speaker 5: the league an alignment standpoint, you know, moving inside and outside.
- 37:02Speaker 5: He's up there with all of the you know in
- 37:04Speaker 5: those metrics in terms of versatility. So ideally he carves
- 37:09Speaker 5: out a role as an early down edge setter and
- 37:12Speaker 5: then when it comes to third down or obvious pass situations,
- 37:15Speaker 5: they can move him inside to over the guard and
- 37:18Speaker 5: over the center and let him rush on the inside,
- 37:20Speaker 5: which is really where he's at his best. But in
- 37:22Speaker 5: order to be every down player, I think he's going
- 37:25Speaker 5: to have to develop as a defensive end and really
- 37:27Speaker 5: play over the tackle or outside the tackle on early downs.
- 37:30Speaker 5: I don't think you're going to put him in the
- 37:32Speaker 5: a ORB gap on first down and expect him to
- 37:35Speaker 5: hold up against the run. I just don't see that
- 37:37Speaker 5: being a great role for him. So he's a tweener.
- 37:40Speaker 5: He's going to move inside, you know, on passing situations,
- 37:43Speaker 5: play outside in obvious you know, early down situations. But
- 37:48Speaker 5: can they get that early down edge setting presence out
- 37:51Speaker 5: of him? Can he be more consistent than that? Can
- 37:53Speaker 5: he beat tackles in the pass rush? Can he set
- 37:55Speaker 5: the edge? Can he keep the quarterback in the pocket?
- 37:57Speaker 3: Like?
- 37:57Speaker 5: Those are the things that they're going to have to
- 37:59Speaker 5: work on with him. But I love that question. I
- 38:02Speaker 5: would love to ask Terrell Williams now that he's here,
- 38:05Speaker 5: you know what he sees and what his vision is
- 38:07Speaker 5: for him, because that's the type of player that's a
- 38:10Speaker 5: ball of clay that you can imagine Rabel and Terrell
- 38:12Speaker 5: Williams getting in the lab with Keon White and ironing
- 38:15Speaker 5: out his game.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So early downs you think edge setter, yeah, later downs,
- 38:20Speaker 1: passing downs? Is he the guy that makes the player
- 38:23Speaker 1: the facilitator?
- 38:24Speaker 5: Probably the facilitator, you know. I think that that him
- 38:27Speaker 5: and Milton Williams are probably more that than they are
- 38:30Speaker 5: true sack guys. They're disruptors they're they're gonna you know,
- 38:34Speaker 5: wreck the play and then you hope that a Landry,
- 38:36Speaker 5: a bar More, a you know, maybe one of these
- 38:39Speaker 5: younger edge rusher's peaks, you know, Brandon Swinson or something
- 38:43Speaker 5: like that. Those guys can come in and be the
- 38:45Speaker 5: guys that get the cornerback on the ground.
- 38:46Speaker 1: And you know, we talked about the impact that the
- 38:49Speaker 1: Bentley injury had last year. The impact that the bar
- 38:53Speaker 1: More illness had was that Keon White was almost like
- 38:56Speaker 1: the guy and that's not his role now, and it
- 38:59Speaker 1: was fair to him, you know, it to be not unfair,
- 39:04Speaker 1: but it was unfortunate that he was thrust into that role.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And I thought, I think we see the results and
- 39:10Speaker 1: you know that the defense just wasn't where it should
- 39:12Speaker 1: have been.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I think everything Evan said is totally right. And
- 39:14Speaker 3: it's those early down you know, early downs where he's
- 39:18Speaker 3: playing that it's going to set his ceiling. Like I
- 39:20Speaker 3: think he's already an established good interior rusher and you
- 39:23Speaker 3: know it's set a hundred times, you know, him against guards.
- 39:25Speaker 3: It's a it's a mismatch that you you know, want
- 39:27Speaker 3: to exploit a little bit more crowded now with Milton
- 39:30Speaker 3: Williams in there and Christian Barmore, two other guys you're
- 39:32Speaker 3: going to play inside and you don't want to get
- 39:33Speaker 3: a lot of snaps for them. But can Keyon White
- 39:36Speaker 3: be a consistent force? Like Kevan said, I mean, you
- 39:38Speaker 3: talk about Harold Landry the balance in his game, the
- 39:41Speaker 3: ability to be a great edgsetter but also get nine sacks. It's,
- 39:45Speaker 3: you know, an all around and if Keon White were
- 39:47Speaker 3: able to elevate to that, and you know you're looking
- 39:49Speaker 3: at Landry and White on early downs and then you
- 39:51Speaker 3: can you know, mix in Chase On or potentially Swinson.
- 39:55Speaker 3: If it starts to click for him, then you've really
- 39:57Speaker 3: got something.
- 39:58Speaker 6: But there are four.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Guys, and they're all interesting, and they all have questions
- 40:02Speaker 3: about how they fit. I just think you're hopeful that
- 40:04Speaker 3: you're not asking any questions about Harold Landry, that he's
- 40:06Speaker 3: going to be, you know, the anchor for that unit.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a gonzo bringing up one of the puppies.
- 40:14Speaker 4: I also got a chance to see Carlton Davis. We
- 40:16Speaker 4: haven't seen much of him during the course of the spring,
- 40:18Speaker 4: and Mike indicated yesterday that he would be out here.
- 40:22Speaker 5: And he is.
- 40:22Speaker 4: He was also one of the players that had a
- 40:24Speaker 4: dog with him.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Why am I cut that dog in? He definitely does have.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Carl Davis has that dog, and I'm Carl Davis will
- 40:32Speaker 5: scrap it. I love that moment in Forgue in Foxborough
- 40:35Speaker 5: when Davis and Gonzo were talking and Davis was like,
- 40:38Speaker 5: do you like left left side or right side of
- 40:40Speaker 5: the defense? And Gonzo was like, I don't care. I
- 40:43Speaker 5: didn't see that. With Christian Zalez right now, his kids
- 40:46Speaker 5: communiments is sky high. You know, he's got the Everybody
- 40:50Speaker 5: talked about him being a little quieter and a little
- 40:52Speaker 5: bit more reserved. That diva corner is starting to come
- 40:54Speaker 5: out with Christian Zales and I love.
- 40:56Speaker 2: It it is.
- 40:57Speaker 1: He's starting to get a little bit more sure of himself,
- 41:00Speaker 1: a little bit more. Got to have that as a corner, Yeah,
- 41:02Speaker 1: a little bit more talkative. I heard some quotes today
- 41:06Speaker 1: about pressure at his position and just welcoming it.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Uh.
- 41:11Speaker 1: He expects the pressure, he wants the pressure, he likes it.
- 41:16Speaker 2: It's everything you want to hear in your number one corner.
- 41:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:18Speaker 3: I don't know how you can have a team in
- 41:21Speaker 3: the NFL and not have a cornerback like that. I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 3: it's just there's just too many good weapons and you
- 41:26Speaker 3: have to at least have some confidence that you can
- 41:29Speaker 3: match up with the Justin Jeffersons of the world, which,
- 41:32Speaker 3: of course we'll get to see hopefully some of those
- 41:34Speaker 3: matchups and joint practices where you know, one on ones.
- 41:37Speaker 3: I don't know how much its gonna tell you about
- 41:39Speaker 3: either player, like for the season, but just how cool
- 41:41Speaker 3: is that to get to watch Christen Gonzalez go against
- 41:43Speaker 3: arguably one of the top, you know, three receivers in
- 41:45Speaker 3: the league, and Justin Jefferson.
- 41:46Speaker 2: We may not be able to see Terry McLaurin. Yeah,
- 41:49Speaker 2: maybe he'll be right, yeah.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Yeah, but that that tandem Davis and and gonz obviously
- 41:56Speaker 5: has the potential to be one of the best in
- 41:58Speaker 5: the league. And just thinking of.
- 42:00Speaker 1: I'll just look at his swagger right now. It's definitely
- 42:04Speaker 1: absolutely I'm the man. He's walking out, I'm the man.
- 42:08Speaker 4: I agree.
- 42:09Speaker 5: But yeah, just the flexibility that those two guys can
- 42:12Speaker 5: give you from a blitzing standpoint, from a run defense standpoint,
- 42:16Speaker 5: like when you know you have two guys on the
- 42:17Speaker 5: outside that don't need a ton of help because they're
- 42:20Speaker 5: really good. Man, coverage corners that you can really get
- 42:23Speaker 5: creative of how you're going to bring pressure and things
- 42:25Speaker 5: like that. And Week one against the Raiders, they're going
- 42:28Speaker 5: to want to feed Ash and Genty the Rocks and
- 42:30Speaker 5: now you can get another hat in the box and
- 42:32Speaker 5: you don't have to worry about that because nobody on
- 42:34Speaker 5: the outside is going to worry you with those two corners.
- 42:36Speaker 5: So that's really exciting to talk about, you know, developed
- 42:40Speaker 5: getting pressure and generating pressure on the quarterback. Well, if
- 42:43Speaker 5: you only have to put five guys in coverage because
- 42:46Speaker 5: those two guys are just taking out their assignments and
- 42:48Speaker 5: you can bring a lot of pressure.
- 42:50Speaker 1: You mentioned Forge, Then there was another moment in Forge
- 42:53Speaker 1: where it's Davis talking to Drake May and you know,
- 42:56Speaker 1: Davis had his guy blanketed and May, you know, decided
- 42:59Speaker 1: not to throw and it.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Was like, come on, you're not gonna give me that
- 43:03Speaker 2: because he knew he would have probably picked it off
- 43:05Speaker 2: if he did.
- 43:06Speaker 1: But you want that, you want the banter, you want
- 43:09Speaker 1: the the competition, uh pushing each other off.
- 43:14Speaker 2: That's first defense.
- 43:16Speaker 5: I mean, the flip side of that desire, the Patriots
- 43:19Speaker 5: receiver is going to be able to uncover against those
- 43:21Speaker 5: guys and practice here.
- 43:23Speaker 4: You know, when we started to talk about Gonzo against
- 43:26Speaker 4: Justin Jefferson, I was thinking Diggs. You know, we saw
- 43:28Speaker 4: a little bit and that was one of the very
- 43:30Speaker 4: few times I thought last year that Gonzo kind of
- 43:33Speaker 4: struggled h you know, at times with Digs in that
- 43:35Speaker 4: Houston game. So I like to see, if you know,
- 43:38Speaker 4: assuming that that Digs is up to speed.
- 43:41Speaker 2: And ready to go.
- 43:41Speaker 4: I know he's playing, but you know, how close to
- 43:43Speaker 4: one hundred percent is he I'm gonna have an eye
- 43:47Speaker 4: on some of those matchups for sure.
- 43:48Speaker 6: Where is Digs at physically?
- 43:50Speaker 3: You know, I think his biggest skill is just his
- 43:52Speaker 3: rout running ability, and you know it's not necessarily dominant
- 43:54Speaker 3: speed or anything like that. It's just he's so smart.
- 43:57Speaker 3: That game last year against Houston, I thought was just
- 44:01Speaker 3: a complete illustration of what we've seen from Stefan Diggs
- 44:03Speaker 3: when the Patriots go against him, which is it's third
- 44:05Speaker 3: and eight and he throws you know, Josh Allen or
- 44:08Speaker 3: you know last year at c J. Stroud throws a
- 44:10Speaker 3: pinpoint pass and you know, it's just right there and
- 44:12Speaker 3: Diggs just runs it so perfectly.
- 44:15Speaker 6: How does that chemistry start to develop.
- 44:16Speaker 3: So I love Paul's point, but does he have that
- 44:19Speaker 3: same chemistry with Drake May? As Drake May throwing with
- 44:21Speaker 3: anticipation the Diggs, does he understand how he wants the
- 44:24Speaker 3: routes run? And you know, if they can get on
- 44:26Speaker 3: the same page, I think that'll be really exciting.
- 44:28Speaker 1: If anyone's just catching up to Patriots News today with
- 44:31Speaker 1: the first day of practice, you mentioned Diggs. He's out there,
- 44:34Speaker 1: he's full go, He's totally clear to play. And I
- 44:38Speaker 1: tell you, I'm pleasantly surprised. I did not expect that.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I expected him to start in pup. It comes dra
- 44:44Speaker 1: you know, even looking at him in the spring, you know,
- 44:48Speaker 1: one leg was noticeably smaller than the other.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I didn't think he had full extension.
- 44:52Speaker 1: What do I know, I'll no doctor, but I do
- 44:54Speaker 1: know me me, because I've been through that. So I'm
- 44:58Speaker 1: just really pleasant surprised that he's out here.
- 45:01Speaker 2: We'll go.
- 45:02Speaker 3: It's so important, I mean, just to get out there
- 45:04Speaker 3: right from the get go and to start establishing that chemistry.
- 45:07Speaker 6: And you know, it's of.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Course we I think we're all anticipating that he might
- 45:10Speaker 3: be a p up guy, and you know, it just
- 45:12Speaker 3: complicates it how he's not going to really get the
- 45:14Speaker 3: training camp reps that he was going to jump right
- 45:17Speaker 3: into practice during the season, which we all know that's
- 45:19Speaker 3: so focused on game planning, and you know, so for
- 45:22Speaker 3: him to get out here and really have a chance
- 45:23Speaker 3: to build that chemistry, be part of the team, really
- 45:26Speaker 3: be in the mix right from the get go, I
- 45:28Speaker 3: think it was just a huge bonus. And you guys,
- 45:31Speaker 3: I thought he.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Was going to open camp on p up, but then
- 45:35Speaker 4: the spring I sort of felt like it was tracking
- 45:38Speaker 4: ahead of that.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it comes right now.
- 45:40Speaker 4: I'm not overly surprised to get that dog with him too.
- 45:43Speaker 4: You know, he's another one, another one with the dogs.
- 45:47Speaker 3: The dogs getting away from Diggs.
- 45:50Speaker 5: It's good.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Much like dis separates from cornerbacks, do.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Separate from We need the Benny Hill music.
- 45:57Speaker 3: All right, all right, Diggs the trees right now taking
- 46:01Speaker 3: this dog.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's funny.
- 46:07Speaker 3: It's okay.
- 46:08Speaker 4: The dog is all right, he's like on uneven ground
- 46:12Speaker 4: over there.
- 46:12Speaker 2: What are we doing?
- 46:14Speaker 4: You see what happens when you inte dogs.
- 46:18Speaker 5: Everybody's fine, everybody's good, everybody's good.
- 46:20Speaker 2: That was funny.
- 46:21Speaker 5: I remember talking to you know, Frady would talk about
- 46:25Speaker 5: being able to read body language of his receivers and
- 46:28Speaker 5: like just knowing as they were approaching the top of
- 46:31Speaker 5: the route based off of you know, where they were
- 46:33Speaker 5: putting their weight and you know which foot they were
- 46:36Speaker 5: planting on and things like that, that you could anticipate
- 46:38Speaker 5: where the receiver was going to break ahead of time,
- 46:41Speaker 5: especially with guys like you know, Edelman, who he threw
- 46:43Speaker 5: to all the time. And if the Drake May and
- 46:46Speaker 5: Stefands can start to get to that level, I just
- 46:49Speaker 5: think the comfort that it gives the quarterback to know
- 46:52Speaker 5: that he has a receiver of that caliber that's going
- 46:55Speaker 5: to get open when he needs him to get open
- 46:57Speaker 5: is just takes a lot of weight off the shoulder
- 47:00Speaker 5: QB that he's not looking around, not knowing exactly where
- 47:03Speaker 5: he's gonna go with the football on a third down
- 47:06Speaker 5: or a key situation. You know, Hunter Henry, I think
- 47:08Speaker 5: is partially that guy for Drake too, But if Diggs
- 47:11Speaker 5: can be that guy along with Henry, then that's just
- 47:14Speaker 5: so huge for the mindset of the cornerback.
- 47:16Speaker 3: And what about the trickle down effect of the other
- 47:18Speaker 3: receivers too, Guys that are now getting favorable coverage or
- 47:21Speaker 3: you know, a guy like Pop Douglas, who look, he's
- 47:23Speaker 3: tough to cover man, so he's getting less coverage and
- 47:26Speaker 3: Digs is pulling some of it.
- 47:27Speaker 6: It's you know, some of these other guys might blossom.
- 47:30Speaker 1: And you know, from what we've heard from Frable, his
- 47:33Speaker 1: expectations very much like Belichick, where the train's not stopping
- 47:38Speaker 1: if you miss practice, if you're out with an injury,
- 47:41Speaker 1: you know, that's too bad, but we're not holding up
- 47:43Speaker 1: the train for anybody.
- 47:45Speaker 2: So you're gonna be behind if you miss practices.
- 47:48Speaker 3: You know, this summer, it's a thing to keep an
- 47:50Speaker 3: eye on with the rookies.
- 47:51Speaker 6: I do it every year.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Guys that suddenly can't practice and you just get behind
- 47:55Speaker 3: that eight ball. And I'm sure you guys can speak
- 47:57Speaker 3: to it even better than I can. Of you know,
- 47:59Speaker 3: rookies who just got hurt in their first training camp
- 48:01Speaker 3: and then they just never found a stride in their career.
- 48:04Speaker 6: It happened.
- 48:04Speaker 3: So hopefully that rookie class, especially some of the new guys,
- 48:07Speaker 3: can stay healthy throughout camp and be able to, you know,
- 48:11Speaker 3: just build that foundation, because it's tough, man, you missed practice,
- 48:14Speaker 3: It's it's really tough missing a week of camp.
- 48:16Speaker 4: Practice was like missing a month.
- 48:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you know it.
- 48:19Speaker 4: They just they do a lot. There's a lot that's
- 48:21Speaker 4: covered and if you miss it, it's it's hard to
- 48:23Speaker 4: especially as a young player. Like you said, Jared Wilson,
- 48:26Speaker 4: another guy that we didn't see a lot of in
- 48:28Speaker 4: the spring.
- 48:29Speaker 3: He's out there.
- 48:29Speaker 5: He's got his uniform as you know, not on.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Any of the lists. So another good sign. Hopefully we'll
- 48:34Speaker 4: get to see a full camp from the roof.
- 48:35Speaker 5: He was who I was going to bring up was
- 48:37Speaker 5: Jared Wilson because especially as a center, that's a very
- 48:41Speaker 5: you know, between the years type of position. So if
- 48:45Speaker 5: he's going to push Garrett Bradbury at some point for
- 48:47Speaker 5: playing time as a rookie at center, then he's going
- 48:50Speaker 5: to this time of year is extremely important for that position,
- 48:53Speaker 5: you know, quarterback centers like that's that's huge. So I
- 48:57Speaker 5: would love to see Jared Wilson out there because you know, Fred,
- 48:59Speaker 5: you asked, what's the one mystery right now? The interior
- 49:02Speaker 5: offensive line is a big question. We'll see what will
- 49:05Speaker 5: Campbell and Morgan Moses do at tackle, but they're going
- 49:07Speaker 5: to be the tackles. Like there's no questions about the
- 49:09Speaker 5: left tackle and the right tackle or the right guard
- 49:12Speaker 5: for that matter, but left guard and center are two
- 49:14Speaker 5: spots that they need to figure out one hundred percent
- 49:18Speaker 5: is it going to be Brad Berry? Who is it
- 49:20Speaker 5: going to be? Out of all the options they have
- 49:22Speaker 5: at left guard. In order to get this going, they
- 49:25Speaker 5: got to protect the quarterback. It's got to start there.
- 49:28Speaker 3: So you you mentioned when you're sorry, Fred, but I
- 49:31Speaker 3: just think them when you and Kyle dug are two
- 49:32Speaker 3: super interesting players, guys that signed you know, big extensions
- 49:36Speaker 3: last year. Dugger banged up clearly last year struggled, but
- 49:40Speaker 3: was a little bit of a guy that took a
- 49:42Speaker 3: lot of flak for playing through injury, so you got
- 49:44Speaker 3: to give him some credit. But still, as we all know,
- 49:46Speaker 3: it matters what you do on the field. And you know,
- 49:48Speaker 3: for all the offensive line questions that we've talked about
- 49:50Speaker 3: all off season and into last year, but Michael, when
- 49:53Speaker 3: you was one of the highest play paid player on
- 49:54Speaker 3: your team, you need him to step up and be
- 49:56Speaker 3: a guy that you can really count on at that
- 49:58Speaker 3: right guard position. Talk about the questions in offensive line,
- 50:01Speaker 3: it's like you'd love to be able to say, well,
- 50:03Speaker 3: we know we got the right guard locked in and
- 50:04Speaker 3: so hopefully he can bounce back have a really good season.
- 50:07Speaker 3: I don't know schematically what Josh is going to do.
- 50:09Speaker 3: Maybe it fits him a little better what he did
- 50:11Speaker 3: earlier in his career under Josh, but that's off to watch.
- 50:14Speaker 1: And as we go over the various topics of conversation,
- 50:17Speaker 1: a guy that he's always been kind of a mystery
- 50:21Speaker 1: since he's been here, Marty Mapu, Yeah, lineback, what do
- 50:25Speaker 1: you think his twenty twenty five could look like if
- 50:28Speaker 1: things work out?
- 50:29Speaker 3: If things work out, that's a great question for a.
- 50:31Speaker 5: Third down coverage lineback.
- 50:33Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good way.
- 50:33Speaker 4: It could be a guy that you know, we're talked
- 50:35Speaker 4: about Tobay a little bit, had some of that versatility.
- 50:37Speaker 4: He could take a role like that if something happens
- 50:40Speaker 4: to Spellane. You know, I agree with Evan. I like
- 50:43Speaker 4: his skill set. Maybe in a third down situation, I
- 50:46Speaker 4: think he could betty pretty action way means business.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:53Speaker 5: Mapa is interesting to me because I feel like early
- 50:55Speaker 5: on in his career he tried to be a jack
- 51:00Speaker 5: of all trades, Like he tried to learn safety, he
- 51:02Speaker 5: tried to learn linebacker. At what point he was trying
- 51:04Speaker 5: to call the defense and wear the green dot. And
- 51:06Speaker 5: he was a young player in the league and an
- 51:08Speaker 5: experienced player, so I would love to see them just
- 51:12Speaker 5: focus on this is one package that we want you
- 51:14Speaker 5: to master. This is one role we want you to master,
- 51:17Speaker 5: and then maybe we can expand upon it once he
- 51:19Speaker 5: masters that one thing. But he, in my opinion, just
- 51:22Speaker 5: had his hand in too many pots, like he was
- 51:24Speaker 5: trying to take on too much as a young player.
- 51:28Speaker 5: So maybe it's past, you know, game linebacker, third down linebacker.
- 51:32Speaker 5: He's kind of a safety body type, so he can
- 51:34Speaker 5: play linebacker spots and play those underneath zones and cover
- 51:38Speaker 5: running backs and like do that sort of thing that's
- 51:40Speaker 5: maybe a little bit too high stress for a true
- 51:43Speaker 5: linebacker like a spelane or like a tabai, And maybe
- 51:46Speaker 5: that's a role for him. Obviously he's gonna have to
- 51:48Speaker 5: play in the kicking game too, if that's his path
- 51:51Speaker 5: to the roster. But him switching to linebacker tells me
- 51:53Speaker 5: that they have something in mind. But I just hope
- 51:55Speaker 5: it's a little bit more honed in and not as
- 51:58Speaker 5: broad as what his first company.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I hope it's not just this is the last try
- 52:02Speaker 3: to figure out if he can, if he can play
- 52:04Speaker 3: at this level, and I mean, I just there's a
- 52:06Speaker 3: part of me just wondering does he fit next to
- 52:07Speaker 3: splaying consistently? Like is there is that crazy to say
- 52:10Speaker 3: a guy who has some size but also can run
- 52:13Speaker 3: a little bit better maybe than you know, somebody like
- 52:15Speaker 3: to buy a kid. So I agree without how Evan
- 52:17Speaker 3: laid it out. But interesting guys really smart. I mean
- 52:20Speaker 3: last year he jumped in and played like a whole
- 52:21Speaker 3: game after missing like a month and a half. He's
- 52:24Speaker 3: won though for sure, injuries have killed him in training
- 52:28Speaker 3: camp the last two years, and that's put him behind
- 52:30Speaker 3: the eight ball as much as anything. So stay healthy
- 52:33Speaker 3: and maybe you have a chance.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Speaking of catching up, Terrell Williams missed pretty much all
- 52:39Speaker 1: the spring in terms of being here. I know that
- 52:43Speaker 1: he was staying in contact, you know, via zoom or whatever,
- 52:48Speaker 1: but he wasn't here, so we have a sense of
- 52:51Speaker 1: where he's at in terms of coordinating this defense.
- 52:56Speaker 6: Well clearly has.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Mike Rabel's trust, and I think you know, like you said,
- 52:59Speaker 3: he was on zoombs and you know they said he's
- 53:01Speaker 3: still around the team, He's just not physically around the team.
- 53:04Speaker 3: So you know, I'm hopeful that this provides a team
- 53:06Speaker 3: just a little fresh boost as we go into camp.
- 53:09Speaker 3: I think all the installation stuff and the teaching stuff
- 53:12Speaker 3: that happens in ot is in mini camp. It's not
- 53:13Speaker 3: the end of the world that your defensive coordinator wasn't here.
- 53:16Speaker 3: Thanks to you know, Zach Kerr, who's another guy who's
- 53:18Speaker 3: been movable before and understands the defense, was able to
- 53:21Speaker 3: you know, fill in on field stuff. So, uh, I'm
- 53:24Speaker 3: excited just to see what's his presence, Like everybody talks about,
- 53:27Speaker 3: you know, how he makes an impact across the roster
- 53:29Speaker 3: and you know, guys really seem to respond to him.
- 53:31Speaker 3: So what's his energy, Like, how does he fit in
- 53:34Speaker 3: out there? Some of the watch today for sure.
- 53:35Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got guts a lot of for people around here,
- 53:38Speaker 5: like Romeo Credell type comparisons, where his motivation and his
- 53:42Speaker 5: ability to connect with players is a big part of
- 53:44Speaker 5: what makes him a great coach. But I'm interested to
- 53:47Speaker 5: see him calling plays because he hasn't really done that before.
- 53:51Speaker 5: He's gonna call plays. He's going to call the defense
- 53:53Speaker 5: this year for the Patriots, and I mean he's had
- 53:56Speaker 5: he had a time on his resumes. It's not like
- 53:58Speaker 5: he doesn't have the experience to do it, but he
- 54:00Speaker 5: hasn't been the primary play caller I don't believe in
- 54:03Speaker 5: yet in his h his coaching career. So how does
- 54:06Speaker 5: that work? You know, how does he call plays? What's
- 54:08Speaker 5: his sort of rhythm to That is going to be
- 54:11Speaker 5: something we won't see till the games, and probably not
- 54:13Speaker 5: till the regular season, to be honest, But it'll be
- 54:15Speaker 5: interesting to see how that all shapes out. Because Raybel
- 54:17Speaker 5: wants to be a CEO. I don't think he wants
- 54:19Speaker 5: to have to call plays or do any of that.
- 54:21Speaker 5: So even though he's had experience doing it, I think
- 54:24Speaker 5: he really wants to pass the buck on that. So
- 54:26Speaker 5: we'll see how.
- 54:27Speaker 2: It's good to go with the camp knowing everybody's role.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I remember two years ago, maybe it was three,
- 54:33Speaker 1: I forget, but we were, you know, all mini camp
- 54:37Speaker 1: and training camp was all about who's got the headset
- 54:39Speaker 1: to talking.
- 54:44Speaker 2: We had no idea.
- 54:45Speaker 3: Yeah you know, no, that was I mean, and then
- 54:47Speaker 3: you're watching some of us thought that might be an
- 54:49Speaker 3: issue heading into that.
- 54:50Speaker 2: It'll be fine, it'll be fine.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Well you know for me, I mean that was my
- 54:56Speaker 3: I guess third training camp that I watched beginning to end.
- 54:59Speaker 3: So you know, every trainy camp you learned something new.
- 55:02Speaker 3: But after these last few camps, it's now.
- 55:04Speaker 6: Just jarring to me.
- 55:05Speaker 3: That camp with you know, Matt Patricia trying to be
- 55:08Speaker 3: the offensive coordinator to coach the offensive line. I mean,
- 55:10Speaker 3: it was just there was just so much going on.
- 55:12Speaker 3: But yeah, whatever, twenty twenty two, we're twenty twenty five.
- 55:15Speaker 3: Now we got a whole new team and I don't
- 55:18Speaker 3: want to think about it.
- 55:19Speaker 4: We opened up broadcast with the things that we're excited about,
- 55:22Speaker 4: and we're all talking about the renewed energy, daff and
- 55:25Speaker 4: that's where it stems from. It is the coaching staff.
- 55:27Speaker 4: There was Mike Rabel and then his ability to to
- 55:30Speaker 4: bring in some experienced coaches that have done last year.
- 55:33Speaker 4: How many different guys did we talk about and say,
- 55:35Speaker 4: it's the first time Mike Deschau has ever been calling plays, Right,
- 55:38Speaker 4: everyone Lazar has ever been in charge of a position group. Right,
- 55:41Speaker 4: There's none of that this year. You have a bunch
- 55:43Speaker 4: of guys that have been there and done that. There's
- 55:45Speaker 4: no first time play callers on offense. Yes, we have
- 55:49Speaker 4: the Terrelle Williams situation on defense, but he's been around
- 55:52Speaker 4: the defense a lot. He's I think the Romeo Crenell
- 55:56Speaker 4: comparison that Evan had I thought was really good. His
- 55:59Speaker 4: reputation is a tea. I think his is really strong
- 56:02Speaker 4: and a guy that has really impacted a lot of plays.
- 56:06Speaker 4: And yes, he's never called plays, but he has been
- 56:08Speaker 4: in that role before as a defensive and.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Ken White just pretty much said it they didn't have
- 56:13Speaker 1: a lot of good coaching last year.
- 56:14Speaker 2: I mean he didn't say those exact words, but that's
- 56:17Speaker 2: what he meant.
- 56:18Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, it's just interesting to less so about being
- 56:22Speaker 5: concerned if he can do it and more about like
- 56:24Speaker 5: starting to learn a little bit about his tendencies and
- 56:27Speaker 5: like his flavor of defense. You know, is he a
- 56:29Speaker 5: pressure guy? Is he a coverage guy?
- 56:31Speaker 3: You know?
- 56:31Speaker 5: Are they going to play a lot of four down fronts?
- 56:33Speaker 5: Like everybody anticipates, like what are they going to look like?
- 56:36Speaker 5: You know on third down really is the big one
- 56:39Speaker 5: in terms of scheme and all that stuff. But it'll
- 56:42Speaker 5: be fascinating to see where they take that in that direction.
- 56:45Speaker 5: But going to move it over to the offense too.
- 56:48Speaker 5: I just every day I get a little bit more
- 56:50Speaker 5: excited about seeing what Josh McDaniels has in store for
- 56:53Speaker 5: Drake May. I just think that that's such a it's
- 56:55Speaker 5: a great pairing, it's a really good hire. It's somebody
- 56:58Speaker 5: that we would for In Foxborough. They talked so much
- 57:01Speaker 5: about that. Josh is a master of this playbook, like
- 57:04Speaker 5: he knows it inside and out, and there's not going
- 57:06Speaker 5: to be any uncertainty of how he's teaching Drake and
- 57:09Speaker 5: how he's coaching Drake. So I'm excited to see what
- 57:12Speaker 5: they do schematically with a quarterback that really everything is
- 57:16Speaker 5: on the table. You can do anything you want with
- 57:17Speaker 5: Drake May. There's nothing that's off limits from a physical standpoint,
- 57:20Speaker 5: So it'll be cool to have McDaniels in that type
- 57:23Speaker 5: of world.
- 57:24Speaker 2: Yep, crowds kind of filling in.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I was a little worried at the beginning because there
- 57:30Speaker 1: weren't a lot of people lined up, But now that
- 57:34Speaker 1: practice is, you know, getting ready to start full swing.
- 57:37Speaker 1: I see the hills filled up, the bleachers are pretty
- 57:40Speaker 1: much filled up. You know, people could switch in and
- 57:43Speaker 1: make more space, but it's.
- 57:45Speaker 5: A it's a pretty good crowd.
- 57:46Speaker 3: Pretty good crowd.
- 57:47Speaker 1: You know, back in the day, look at me, you know,
- 57:53Speaker 1: you know when Tom Brady was here, it was it
- 57:55Speaker 1: was a whole different thing because people came to see him.
- 57:59Speaker 1: You came to see greatness, uh, particularly in you know
- 58:02Speaker 1: the later half. Uh you know, so literal people would
- 58:06Speaker 1: come and be at the gate floor in the morning
- 58:09Speaker 1: to you know, have a chance to be in.
- 58:13Speaker 2: People were though, but that was all Tom Brady.
- 58:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 58:16Speaker 3: Yeah, well Randy Moss too. I'm sure you know the
- 58:19Speaker 3: Hall of Famers came through.
- 58:21Speaker 6: But you're totally right.
- 58:21Speaker 3: And I mean I still think, no matter what team
- 58:24Speaker 3: they're rolling out there, that this is just a great
- 58:26Speaker 3: take for a family middle of the summer looking for
- 58:28Speaker 3: something to do, entertainment for the kids.
- 58:31Speaker 6: You're right there. I mean it's free.
- 58:34Speaker 4: Just as a parent who spent puppies.
- 58:36Speaker 3: There's puppies now, I mean you spent a lot of
- 58:37Speaker 3: time figuring out what am I do with the kids today?
- 58:40Speaker 3: Come down to Foxborough. It's a it's a great time.
- 58:42Speaker 3: And now with Joy Practices and Drake May and Stefan
- 58:46Speaker 3: Diggs and Williams and Christian Barmore and you know, you're
- 58:48Speaker 3: starting to build some of those names that are a
- 58:50Speaker 3: little bit more of a draw.
- 58:52Speaker 4: Yeah, Dukes came for money, So he sat around thinking
- 58:55Speaker 4: what am I going to do with the kids to that?
- 58:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I was at work.
- 58:58Speaker 5: My wife was at work.
- 59:00Speaker 4: Didn't sit around wondering what we're going to do with kids.
- 59:02Speaker 4: But Mike just so comes from a different place.
- 59:04Speaker 2: I'm surprised.
- 59:04Speaker 4: That's why I'm glad he's allowing us to be just
- 59:07Speaker 4: to send him.
- 59:07Speaker 2: To some summer camp.
- 59:08Speaker 6: Yeah, no, that's well, that's what we did.
- 59:10Speaker 4: Well, that's what one of them is this week.
- 59:12Speaker 3: Well, you know, the three nannies usually do something with
- 59:15Speaker 3: you know, and I just getting in my daily massage.
- 59:18Speaker 3: Of course he had money on that side of the
- 59:20Speaker 3: Take them, take them to the training camp. That will
- 59:23Speaker 3: be fun and clap my hands in it.
- 59:27Speaker 5: Got some dogs coming up here, now, Polly, just for you.
- 59:29Speaker 4: What do we got?
- 59:30Speaker 2: Oh?
- 59:30Speaker 3: We do?
- 59:31Speaker 5: I think they might have just adopted this.
- 59:33Speaker 3: We're getting a parallel.
- 59:34Speaker 6: Oh man, I don't know about that.
- 59:39Speaker 3: You got shirt?
- 59:40Speaker 7: Dad?
- 59:41Speaker 2: Please?
- 59:42Speaker 5: What's the worst that could happen to?
- 59:43Speaker 7: Dad?
- 59:43Speaker 3: Right, it's always it's going to be the.
- 59:48Speaker 4: The start of practice.
- 59:49Speaker 6: We got dogs opera coming right through.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Yeah, look at this guy, Look at you. Oh you're
- 59:54Speaker 2: a good boy. You're a good boy. It looks like
- 59:57Speaker 2: he wants to bite my calf. Right now, look all
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: these good dogs. Look at all these good dogs.
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: I gotta get my dog at Patriots jersey.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: That's that's pretty cool, Alice.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: You do not have a Patriots jersey for your dog yet.
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: Not yet, but I will.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: Don't worry.
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: I'm a little mad at him after the last couple
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: of days.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: I really can't believe that you don't have him decked
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: out in Pat's garb.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: Well, I'm hoping to get him in the Patriot, the
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: Patriots on patriots dot com. So maybe pull some strings,
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: maybe we get him on the on the website.
- 1:00:24Speaker 6: That'd be pretty cool.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: How he wants to dress him up like a shark.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Chase me, chase me our shot.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: I'm playing.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: So we'll we'll get the cameras turned down to the
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: field as soon as we can. There's certain portions of
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: the practice that we're not allowed to show live. So
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: if you're wondering why are we listening and watching these guys,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: and then why aren't we watching the field, Because like
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I said, there's certain portions that we're allowed to film
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: other portions that we're not, and this.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: Is one we're not allowed to film.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Well, but Paul likes to say, and it's it's so
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: true this you know, these shirt two days really in
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: a extension of OTAs. You know, it's not it doesn't
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: feel like training camp quite yet. Monday, it'll start to
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: feel like training camp.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: Wait till the stats come out later, tell a different story.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: Still have fifteen takeaways.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not gonna lie, I'm going to have them. Yeah,
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: but you know, I'm not.
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: Going to tell you that today is a lot of
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: procedural stuff. Who's out there, who's full go? You know,
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: it's not a whole lot Leave with the dogs, Leave
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: with the dogs football takeaways.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: I'd like to catch a glimpse of heroes. I haven't.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: I haven't laid eyes on him yet, but it's another one.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: I mean interesting to watch as a coordinator. You know,
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: where does he spend his time? I mean he's obviously
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: comfortable with the defensive line. That was the prosion group
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: that he that he coached and that he's you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: really known for. But you see him hovering with the
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: cornerbacks at all defense, you know, linebackers, that kind of stuff.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: See what kind of his style is?
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: People emailing in podcasts at patriots dot com mostly about dogs.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Uh Bowood, Rhode Island, taking issue with Evan out labs.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Labs are not low energy. Their owners are just lazy laps,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: I think, or they get overweight.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: I think that's why Evan was suggesting I get a
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: lab because owners are lazy.
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: Listen, I'll.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: Ryan and Bates says Paul's future dog should be a beagle.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: They're rarely quiet, don't care if no one else is
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: listening to them, whine and howl at about nothing.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: It seems fair.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: Uh s bought an advisor down there on the on
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: the sidelines there was it, a big one with with
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: a very little velcrow to spare large and a rubber
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Yeah that's a hard thing to say, rubber wedding ring.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: I have to say, that's kind of like that. Sure
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: there's an and is he on the show?
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, I think a takeaway too from the spring
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: was just the temple of the practice. You know, guys
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: sprinting a lot. There weren't a lot of conditioning. It
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: seems like Rabel is one of the guys run during practice.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: It's funny that you brought that up, Mike, Dad, what
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: are we doing. I actually asked Mike about that. He did,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: and that's exactly how he you know, the way we
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: talked about it.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: I think at the time, if you're working at practice,
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: you should be getting you running in that practice. There's
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: no need for extra conditioning. That's why we do everything
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: and the tempo that we do. So I think when
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: we see them doing, you know, maybe devoting a little
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: extra time to conditioning, which they will, it's not going
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: to be. But I think that will be part of
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: the plan. And I think that another part of the plan.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: It's not like I think people will, well, oh jeez,
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: Rabel's being easy on him.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: They didn't run the hill today.
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: I don't think that's going to.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Be the case.
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: I think that means that he had more running built
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: into the practice.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Yeah he, I mean he, like Paul said, he mentioned
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: that that's the way he runs his practice. You know,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: he runs it like a game. Plays over it, get
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: back to the huddle. We're going to do the next play.
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: There's not going to be a lot of downtime between
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: plays in periods.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: I just hope that hill doesn't get lonely over there,
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: because it's a you know, oh.
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: I'm sure they'll be out there. Yeah.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I think I saw a practice plan for today, and
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I think I saw condigtional hills all right at the end.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: But but as you get further into the summary, I
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: think you're going to see less of that. Guys should
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: be in shape.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean to Paul's point that you brought
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: U yesterday. Guys start to get banged up a little bit.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: You don't need to you don't need to go too
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: crazy and push it. Oh, we got a split box
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: to look at that.
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: Yeah, the funds, the funds on the right, some lockthroughs
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: right now.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: Yeah, except to say you're looking over there for attendance, Mike,
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: I didn't touched a single one.
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: I would you, guys, because I.
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: It was the last thing I said that I needed
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: to help with.
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: I got an audio service thing right here.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: That's really blocking.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: Figure.
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: You got the perch, Paul, you're nothing.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: But excuse the guys who are here are here.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: Right, I think everybody except for the n f I
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: pup guys.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: There's a handful of guys I don't have. That doesn't
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: mean they're not here.
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: Okay, we'll get that to you.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Will effort that later.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Drake mays here, that's all I care about.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: Drake mill Williams. You got Steph Dicks.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: You make fun of me all the time when I
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: say things like that, but you say the same thing.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: Well, now it's a whole new thing.
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: Because about you know, like your team is, you know,
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: new regime.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: We're gonna lead Mike Able to button things up. We
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: don't have to do the buttoning up anymore. I like it,
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: you know that.
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: I like it.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: I like it.
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: Freddy Mike were Abel worry about the blocking and the
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: line of scrimmage, and you guys will worry about.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: The Mike Felger says, you do that on your own time,
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: and we'll worry about what win's football stapticks.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: You guys can do that on right, all right.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: So that Rable quote yesterday where they talked about their
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: film review and they put it into buckets, which was
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: the good, the bad, and.
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: The sleep that will get your beat?
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Now, what's the difference between the bad and the stuff
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: that will get your beat?
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: So that's just like a bad play, Like you know,
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: maybe you drop a pass or or whatever, but you
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: know the bleep that will get your beat is I
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: don't know, fifteen fall start penalties in a practice, I've
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: missed assignment that gets your quarterback lit.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: Up, letting the ball go over your head as a safety.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: I was gonna say, maybe the DK Metcalf play and
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: that's the bleep that will get your beat. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: and you can fix it. Doesn't take talent to know
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: your assignments to stay on side.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: Those kinds of things kind of more than dumb. Do
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: you remember the three pillars? The three pillars for camp cancel,
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: build a team that's number one, find a role, Yeah,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: prepare to win. Oh, I wrote it down just in
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: case Pray will ever quizzes me on and I'm ready
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: to go.
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: I did like I did like his three buckets for
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: the film though, I that's a that's a good one,
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: you know, way to live in the film.
- 1:06:48Speaker 6: Maybe put that in your film reviews.
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: Maybe after further review will be what were those buckets?
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: I think the stuff that they get I see, yeah, yeah,
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: maybe that's going to be the new.
- 1:06:57Speaker 6: Stuff that get you beat might be a little sparse,
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: but that's fine, you know.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: I don't talk too much about that, but I.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Think going back to the three pillars for camp goals,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I think he really kind of the goal there was
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: just to narrow it down to just the basic you know,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: we're here to build a team.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: You know, you need to you know, find your role,
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: who are you? How do I fit into this team?
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: And then prepare to win.
- 1:07:24Speaker 6: I mean, to avoid the stupid mistakes that get to
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: beat those kind of things. Yeah, I mean it's now.
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: I thought a lot of what Frable was said.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: I mean, he always goes back to teaching for him
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: and I think you know, a thing that made Bill
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: Belichick great players often said that he could just really
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: simplify things and say, you know, these are the few
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: things we need to focus on, and you can't do
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: everything as a head coach, so you really have to
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: break it down what's important to.
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: Me to establish.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Frankly, he got that from Belichick. Belichick that I thought
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: that was one of his secret weapons, was how he
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: was able to take things and just simplify it and
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: make it absolutely teachable.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: I've heard it from too many players to not know
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: that that's the fact and.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: Also have the knowledge to like look at an opponent
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: and say this is the key.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: But whatever it is, he was able to just travel.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: He was able to just break it down whatever it was.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: That's why I think he could be the CEO of
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: any compat.
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: Then that's probably Ernie too.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: I mean Ernie probably has that ability already watch a
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: team and say this is the loose brick and if
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: we pull this one out, the whole thing is going
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: to collapse.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: I just continue to that, you know, one the other
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: team's plays.
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: Impressed by uh you know they were talking to Rabel
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: and his press conference this morning about uh Doc Jim
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: Whalen and you know, the medical stuff, and like he
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: has an answer to that, like he had he has
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: knowledge about, you know, how they're going to rehab players
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: and injuries and where the players are going to go
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: if they need an MRI, and like all these little
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: things that he has an actual idea of how they're
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: going to implement those things, whereas I think a lot
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: of other coaches would have just said.
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: That's one thing that's really stood out to me about
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: Mike from the introductory press conference, and he's mentioned things
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: like that many times. It's his stressing of the importance
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: of everybody on his team knowing everybody in the building.
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: Get to know these people, the people that are in
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: the cafeteria, the people that are taking care of you,
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: the parking people, the medical status. Like that's what I
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: don't remember a lot of coaches talking. And it wasn't
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: lip service in my opinion, because he said it so
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: many different ways and so many different times. We heard
- 1:09:36Speaker 4: some of the stuff and forged about the first meeting.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: He talked to them about the importance of treating these
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: people properly, with respect and getting to know them. And
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: I think that's an example of it that Evan just.
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: Talked about with the doctors medical different electrician.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: Bill was like, stay away from.
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: Sports side all of it. Like he has you know,
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: analytics like scouting coach, yeah, practice schedules, like he has
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: his hand in all of it, and like has things
- 1:10:06Speaker 5: to offer in terms of knowledge to all of it.
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: It's impressive.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: So as you can see, cameras are back on the
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: field and that's May front and center.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: That's a bit stretching right now.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: Hey, Fred, you know what I have to point out too.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: I haven't seen the new football facility from this angle
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: in a little while, and it's coming together.
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: It's definitely nicely. Yeah, you can see it like now,
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: like you you know, you take a random Friday off
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: and you come back after a long weekend, you're like, whoa, Yeah,
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: there's a lot of changing in three days.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: It's amazing how fast they can get things done when
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: you don't. You know, when guys, you know, the crew's
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: there and I can't get somebody to mow my law,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: you know, and and they're putting up this building.
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: Somebody's get off your as on yourself.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: If I had to tie, I actually enjoy it.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: We we've been through this. We're not going to get
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: into you.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: I like, but.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: This facility is gonna slated to be open in April
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: of twenty twenty.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: Six and might need it.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: It's coming, you know, like what year to build this thing.
- 1:11:05Speaker 5: That's unbelieve.
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: I am underground parking.
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: I know. It was a huge thing, state of the
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: art treatment facility. It walks right out onto the practice barbershop.
- 1:11:13Speaker 5: Barbershop, Uh yeah, polo right because we come even in
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: the off season, which we work here, so we're here
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: and every week you come back in a little bit
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: more is done and a little bit more is done.
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: So it is crazy to watch it in real time
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: going up and it's I mean the outside structure is
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: done right, I mean they're really just working on the
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: inside at this point.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Yeah, It's funny how it all came together because I
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: know this has been in the works for a long time,
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: and now you know, Mike Rabil comes here and now
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: he gets his team just gets the benefit from you know, hey,
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: it's already in the pipeline. Mike here comes, you know,
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: so it'd be great for the team next year when
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: they're able to move.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: And I know that Rabel and his staff have been
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: involved in, you know, planning it out the inside of it.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: You know, what's important in the meeting rooms. What av
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: do they need, what do they want, what's the latest technology?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: How big the lockers should be, for example, I guess
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: they're calling them custom lockers.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: You know they're customized. So uh yeah, I'm I'm excited
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: to see it. I'm not even gonna be working it.
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: There's your boy, a lot of Gabriel and forged you
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: know this.
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: I think is he talking to it. I think he's
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: talking today.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: Maybe I think he is. Yeah, just you know, instaid
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: this off. He's like, I've never had a winning season
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: and it never really occurred to me. And it's like, man,
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: that guy, you can pick him, you know, the guy
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: his first round pick, really highly touted and you know
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: Cleveland and Giants, and you know, he's kind of kicked
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: around a little bit. He's had off the field issues
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: last year that you know, derailed them. But he's a
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: guy that just plays the way that verybel wants these
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: guys to play.
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: And that's why, you know, or some question, how does
- 1:12:50Speaker 6: you know, how do the old guys fit.
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: Into this new rosters? We were first getting going, and
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: I just could never rule out Gabril Peppers. You see
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: him breaking down the huddle. Uh, you know, he's definitely
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: emerged as a leader on this team and oh ras
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: gotta had on and so yeah, I'm hopeful that just
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: how much would mean for Jabil Peppers to get back
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: on track to play a full season and maybe make
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: the playoffs. I mean, he just it's all there for
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: him to have, you know, the most satisfying season of
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: his career.
- 1:13:15Speaker 6: If this team's able to put it together.
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: Yeah, after last season, which was frankly not very good
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: for either Kyle Duggar Jabriel Peppers, we kind of forget
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: that two years ago it was one of the better
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: safety tandems in the NFL, and you know, on all
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: those lists that come out this time of year, they're
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: ranking them both, you know, pretty high as a tandem individually,
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: and there was once upon a time where they were
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: looked at as as really good players and had good
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: I agree with that.
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: Are you a little surprised the amount of criticism Dugger
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: has taken in this this offseason? I know, I'm not
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: trying to tell you we had a great year.
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: I think a lot of people. Yeah, I think a
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: lot of people were already a little bit out on
- 1:13:52Speaker 5: the coverage ability to begin with, and then when he
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: had the year that he had last year where that
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: was really I think people have ignored the fact that
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: he played her.
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: And I'm not trying to make excuses for him.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: I have been one that's been.
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: Critical of his coverage ability in the past.
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: So I'm not trying to tell you, oh, now I'm
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: going to change because I'm being contrarian. That's not what
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: I'm trying to do. I thought it was clear that
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: he played at well below one hundred percent last year. Yeah,
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: he was not moving at all, and I think it's
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: now chocked up that he can't play and he could
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: get he's going.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: To get cut.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Well, I think he got lumped into the guys they
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: brought back.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: But I would say, Paul, I think you're totally right.
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: But I think part of the reason is because there
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: are a lot of very glaring plays last year for him.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: Oh you mentioned already the DK metcalf one Miami game
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: at Miami was a train wreck. So and so a
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: common fan is watching that and being like, even I
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: can see you know, and who knows for sure if
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: you're right based on what the coverage is. But I
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: think it was obvious for even the casuals that he
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: was having a tough year and that's why. And you're right,
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: people are overlooking the fact that he was really playing
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: through a serious injury that needed surgery in the off season.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: So again him and on when you just got is
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: that a little bit part of the old regime?
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: Can they? But I haven't heard that criticism of a Winu. Yeah, happened,
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: and he had a bad year. He did, and just
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: because he was the best lineman on a terrible offensive
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: line doesn't mean he played well.
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: I mean I haven't really heard any of that with
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: a Wnu other than here on our show we talk
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: about it.
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Tommy Current talk a little bit about it. I mean,
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: I think, you know, I think any time you just
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: look at the salaries of the guys and you just highlight,
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: all right, these are the taps.
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: Of stands out to me. Yeah, the guys that are
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: making good money that they didn't get didn't get that
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: money from this regime. To the guys that are unnoticed.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: Especially you know, if on when new is going to
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: play guard, like if he's and I think he should,
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: but now he's an eighteen million dollar guard, you know
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: that that needs to be a Pro Bowl caliber player
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: at that number for that position. But Duggar, I just wonder,
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: is there is there more consistency to his game, Like
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: does he have that in him or is he always
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: going to just kind of be a splash player that's
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: going to have some boom. It's going to have some
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: bus a couple of years ago when he's has picked
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: sixes and things like that, then you lived with some
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: of the plays where he's not in the right position
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: all the time.
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: That's why I thought it was so clear that he
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: was playing below one hundred percent because he had that
- 1:16:12Speaker 4: explosiveness that the picked off Derek Carr screen pass against
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: the Raiders, you know, like that's just like scoop and score.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: I don't think I think he could have diagnosed that
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: play every bit as quickly last year and wouldn't have
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: been able to make it. Basically, wouldn't have been there.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: And I'm not telling you he's a great player. I
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: think if you go back to all those splash plays
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: that he made and was I think twenty one and
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: twenty two and a little bit, you know, in twenty three,
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: I think there's an element that he was a little
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: over rated. But I don't think he is as bad
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: a player as he was last year. I think the
- 1:16:46Speaker 4: criticism is sort of ignoring all those plays that he
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: made the previous couple of seasons.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: You wonder if if Craig Woodson's got anything in the tank.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: I mean, we talk about the Darron Harmon you know role,
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: Devin Cordy role, and I think that you might have
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: been when Dugger was at his best, when Devin mccordy
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: was here, and you could just kind of play with Dougger.
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: He doesn't have to worry about getting beat over the top.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: But you know, is there a scenario where by the
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: end of the year it's just Dugger or Pepper's with
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: a Craig Woodson and it's a little bit more conventional
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: where you have a free safety and a strong safety
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: and you know, I know teams now want to have
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: guys go down and up and you know, have that
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: versatility and not be so rigid with your safety roles.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: But at the same time, if there's a guy with
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: some really good range, it might balance out your defense
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: a little bit. So, I mean, we'll see.
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: Whitson's reputation for being a cerebral safety is just gets
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: another guy with a lot of college experience.
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: Gets everybody in the right spot in their natural spots.
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: And I think that's big for Dougger. He's the type
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: of player that you got to get him in the
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: right roles. Like if you're going to have him play
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: a lot in space, if you're going to have him
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: play far off the line of scrimmage in the deep
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: part of the field, like that's really not a strength
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: of his. So if you can get him into the
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: right spots and then the cam, you know, he can
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: be a really good player for them. What'son's a good
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: chot Like if Wotson can be that guy, you know
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: when they play dime on third down, they're gonna have
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: six defensive backs, Like, is it those three guys in
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: the safeties And I'm hoping, I'm hoping it's those three together.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: That's what's interesting to me is just what do the
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: sub packages look like?
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: And I think we have a pretty good sense of
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: you know, just what they're probably like four, two, five,
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: bas Nickel will be. But you know when they get
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: into the different dime packages, are there going to be
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: here we go sprint Brable leading the way you saw Mike.
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: Together.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Yeah, just setting the tone.
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: What do you think that message is?
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: Ready?
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean, being a veteran of thirty plus camps,
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: what do you think the message was for?
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: Take care of each other?
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: Take care of each other, stay up, you know that
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: type of thing. Let's be alert, head on a swivel.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: I might I might have a pad anyway, right, you
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: know it.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Starts today and there it is Paul on.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: They literally hand him the pad as you say that,
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: he's such a hard I love it.
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: I love it.
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: Andy Hart goes to bed every night and just says,
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: don't want to be migrat.
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: I just that's football, right, Like, let's get in the trenches.
- 1:19:01Speaker 5: Let's get on when it with Moses on a double
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: team and let's move some bodies. You know, that's Mike
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: Rabel's mindset, and I love it.
- 1:19:07Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: I like to listening to him talk about that kind
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: of stuff that before you came to the show, Mike
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: and I were talking about that. It was late in
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: the press garments when he talked about one of the
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: things he gets most excited about is when a guy
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: sort of surprises him with his physicality once the pats
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: come on, his ability to maybe break tackles, or his
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: contact balance, or his ability to shed a block. And
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: every year he says, there's guys that surprise him.
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: I just gave a nice uh yeah the camp. Welcome
- 1:19:35Speaker 6: to Camp Rabel.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: But you know, looking at to By, there too, no
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: wrap on his leg or anything, jumping right into these
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: these drills here that they're doing so good sign for him.
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: Doesn't seem like he's you know, too hampered by that
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: that injury from the spring.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, so Rabel is scrapped up special teams.
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: So I like to talk to you guys about my
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: buddy Mike Reese, right, because I always take a little
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: extra stock into some of the I considered him to
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: be one of the more informed beat guys. You never
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: will hear me put him in the in the box
- 1:20:04Speaker 4: like to everybody else when I make part of the media.
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: Mike had an interesting roster projection and there was one
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: guy in UH specifically that stood out to me and
- 1:20:14Speaker 4: that was really shot out Giovari Ritzy. He had making
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: his his final roster defensive tackle. I don't know much
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: about that undrafted rookie out of North Carolina sixty four
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: just looking at the roster. Do you guys know anything
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: about this player? And should I have him on my radar?
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: I mean, I sure I didn't If I had to
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: pick the ud F as he would not be at
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: the top of the list, but mostly just because of competition,
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: Like it's going to be a tough spot to make
- 1:20:49Speaker 5: the roster as an interior defensive lineman when you have
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: bar Moore and Williams and White and you know, Farms
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: and Tongda like guys that are going to be on
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: this team, so that that would be more Does he
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: have an edge over Farms and that he's much more
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: of a of an upfield player, and you know, you
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: see the size is only two hundred and ninety five pounds,
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: three hundred pounds, and but I remember of him, you know,
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: just doing the ud fas, was that he's somebody that
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: that is that style, you know, he fits the style
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: of that they want to play a little bit more potentially.
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: But I think there's a long way to go before
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: we're talking about Ritzy picking the roster.
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: I get, I get, well, I just yeah, if you
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: I mean, you guys obviously didn't see it. If you
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: saw a roster projection at this time of year and
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: that guy was on, it, wouldn't that feels It's not
- 1:21:33Speaker 4: like Chisholm right now would not necessarily create that kind
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: of a reaction.
- 1:21:38Speaker 5: That's some random.
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: There's another there's another one that feels informed. Pomp.
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: It feels it absolutely feels informed, which is why I
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: bring it up. And I want to know if I
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: should put any extra attention to that player. I think
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: we're gonna have to pronounce learn how to pronounce this.
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: You know, there's going to be a bunch of udfas
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: that make this team, because you were talking about it earlier,
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: like it's new regime and they're gonna have their guys
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: and they're gonna and a lot of them. They're gonna
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: be filter out some of the guys that are not
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: necessarily fits for what they want to do. And we've
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: talked a lot about e Fton, Chisholm and Marrison. But
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: even at like tight end, you know, can g Scott
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: or so Debre win a spot. Brock Lampy at fullback,
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: does he win a spot? Apparently? Javari Ritzy is someone
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: we should all talk about. Cam Riley at linebacker.
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: He had Larson on his roster.
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I too.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: It's a great I like how Evan's laying it out
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: because I think what Mike Reese was probably getting at
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: is questions about death and some of these positions. Defensive
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: tackle is a great one, and that's probably why he
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: chose Ritzy. But you know who fits into this scheme?
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: Do the holdovers hold their jobs? You know, you you
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: brought up Jeremiah Farms, who had a great year last
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: Year's really progressed, but still you know, he's like twenty eight,
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: twenty nine. I mean, he's not a young spring chicken anymore.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: So those positions, the depth, that's where the jobs can
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: do one. I think Evan laid out some great names
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: that you don't brock Lampy, who's gonna unique player on
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: the roster, might push for a spot if Josh likes
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: that and wants to put that fullback back in.
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: Only full back on the roster, they got to put
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: the fullback back in?
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: And what do we doing?
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: We were talking about interviews after practice earlier and speculating
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: we should mention.
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: That Drake May is going to speak today. Yeah, we
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: will have that for you live. Yeah, after practice, after practice.
- 1:23:22Speaker 5: Watching some footwork here with him under center and something
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: that just like a little thing that be watching the
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: play fakes and the under center footwork and all that stuff,
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: Like the footwork really improved leaps and bounds from college
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: to his rookie year. I think the play fakes can
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: get a little bit better, like really selling the play
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: action from under center. It'd be interesting to see how
- 1:23:43Speaker 5: that develops.
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: I got a little of the Drew in them. A
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: little Drew was too cool to give you a really
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: good play fake. It would be I got, how do
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: I look smooth and cool.
- 1:23:52Speaker 3: Doing this right?
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: But when you're in shotgun like, it's not really footwork right,
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: You're just kind of shuffling your feet. You know, it's
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: not really we're not really talking about dropping back from
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: you know, five seven nine step drops from under center.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: That that's really when we start to talk about footwork
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: and then where that impacts the quarterback.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: But definitely they are working on that now from the
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: shotgun quarterbacks and now we see offensive line.
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: Here, So that's uh, I think that's Robert Cooler there,
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: who I ran into at the automotive shop waiting for
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: our cars to be ready, and you know, a line
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: spread of building a relationship with football.
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: Chatted with him.
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: He was featured pretty prominently in the recent episode of Fortune.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: Foxborough as well said, oh, you got a first round
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: pick to uh get your hands on?
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: He said, oh, no, you know, I'm gonna.
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: Let the shoot. What's the offensive line coach?
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: Dog Moon?
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: Come on, Robert Cooper.
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: No, I know he's like a two time head coach.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: He gets very names in my head.
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: Well they have, I exaggerate, but they have like five
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: offensive line coaches. They have three true like guys that
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: are really the voices. But Jason Hawdling, he made an
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: impression on me. He was with Rabel in Tennessee. He's
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: actually run the room before he's been an offensive line coach,
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: and then Doug Moron obviously has done it for years.
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: So they kind of have two guys that could are
- 1:25:15Speaker 5: qualified to be offensive line coach.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: That's part of what I was talking about earlier with
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: like last year you had all guys that were actually
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: doing it for the first time. This year they have
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: assistants who have done it in the past, like Thomas Brown,
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: Todd Downing has been an offensive coordinator. He's coaching wide receivers. Yeah,
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: you know so, I think now sometimes that can work
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: the other way. You got too many cooks in the kitchen.
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: But right that isn't how I would do it. But
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: that's Mike Britton. That's on Mike Rabel. He's got to
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: make sure you don't get that kind.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: Of as they're all on the same page. Great.
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: When it comes to some of the stuff with the technique,
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: I just from what I've seen, I would say Doug
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: Moron is going to do a lot more of like
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: the coordinating with Josh McDaniels of the offensive line. You know,
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: how are we going to block things, How are we
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: going to pick up blitz is? How are they going
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: to scheme the run game? And all that kind of stuff.
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: Looks like Haddling and Cooglar are really involved with like
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: hands on coaching, and Myron is kind of sits back
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: and watches and evaluates and and.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: Then gives his two So what was Huddling his nickname?
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: I was on the stupid thing. I forget it was
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: like Hoss or something, Coss or something. It's like quintessential
- 1:26:17Speaker 3: offensive line coach. Who is the guy out in Vegas
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: that we were car Priscillo. I mean, just these guys
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: who are you know, they're all kind of built the same,
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: They are kind of square guys. They just had that
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: booming voice. And then there's Dante's right, Yeah, he's kind
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: of you know, Dante's kind of the exception to that.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Yeah, just saw Stefan Diggs there take a past. This
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: is a drill that once they get pads on, uh goes.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: It's more a lot more physical drill right now, it's
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: just kind of two hand touch.
- 1:26:46Speaker 5: Yeah, So leveraging to try to push to your help,
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: whether it's the sideline or you know, back into the
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: teeth of the defense. So you're the defensive player wants
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: to take an angle at the ball carrier in order
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: to funnel him in a certain direction that they want
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: to push him and Marcus Jones taking some reps with
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: the ball.
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: I would not want to go against him.
- 1:27:04Speaker 4: Can we can we get the ball in his hands?
- 1:27:07Speaker 5: That would be my nightmare, Like I'll be a little
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: bit on offense.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: Marcus's KBO.
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: Kyle Williams was really good at this drill in the spring.
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: I remember he made a couple of guys look look
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: a little foolish.
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: Of course, the return of the Guardian Caps, it's become.
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: A Travon Henderson thirty two.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: Yeah, he fast. He's one guy that I felt like
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: through the spring, everybody kind of universally was like, yeah,
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: he looks like he can play Kyle Williams as much
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: as you can say it at this point, but oh,
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: bull ship those two guys.
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: If even if it's not a high volume, if they
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: can just get some big plays out of those two
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: guys and they can bring that infusion of explosiveness that
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: they drafted them for and be so massive for the group.
- 1:27:58Speaker 3: He digs Williams pop. I mean, these guys are all
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: in the contract for a couple of years too, So
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: anything you established this year, you've got guys to build it.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: I mean, this is a great, great example right here,
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: Jamon Baker, who you know, talk about a guy who
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: has all the talent.
- 1:28:14Speaker 6: Uh, but is he ready to take that step?
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: Yeah, he keep wanting to see him put it together
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: because he does have all the talent. Yea highly recruited
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: guy at Alabama Big Year. You see f a couple
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: of years ago. Like, it's not a talent issue with him,
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: it's a consistency issue because the.
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: Show guy to keep your eye on.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: I had a lot of talk that was quick.
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: We're talking about and I don't want to you know,
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: I'm not I can't see everything, but we talk a
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: lot about Baker. Just now. His partner that everybody talks
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: about with him is Polk. I haven't seen Jalen no Folk,
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: so he's not on the list.
- 1:28:50Speaker 5: But he did have you know, he had his shoulder
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: and he's coming back and was limited in the spring.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: So I did not see him. Doesn't mean he's not
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: out there or not. You know, before I you know,
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: we end up getting aggregated. I'm not reporting that he's
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: not out there. We're up here on the ramps, so
- 1:29:05Speaker 4: I don't see everybody's cut an audio service.
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: I don't see him either with their receivers, you know.
- 1:29:11Speaker 4: And ironically, the other guy I didn't cross off is
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: ninety three Ritzy. Yeah, after I just talked about him,
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: He's probably out there. I just haven't seen him. Everybody
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: else I have accounted for that's not on the list. Okay,
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: So Josh Mankins, thanks, Paul Venerian Lowe and Austin Hooper
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: are three guys that are still on lists.
- 1:29:31Speaker 5: I got.
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: You got ninety three so yeah, and Mac Collins is
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: actually here but he's not practicing. So those poor guys,
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: those are the only guys I don't have other than
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: Jalen Polk.
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: Yeah, the other scribes or in agreement with you, So
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: it's j Jalen Polk's the only guy not here.
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: Yeah, that's not not ideal for him. No, now, especially
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: after yesterday, I said, I'm team Polk.
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: So hopefully, hopefully it's not the major. But I mean,
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: he was working through things during the off season. He
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: was shoulder surgery.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: Yeah, he had something done on his shoulder.
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, he had shoulders injury at the end
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: of last year.
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: But I'm not gonna lie, like I know, we talk
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: about this the first day camp and you know, but
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: it's like it matters, like I think every time you're
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: not out here it matters.
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: So particularly for guys like that. You know, if if
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: if we talked a lot about digs and how positive
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: it was that he's not on pup, well, if he
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: was not on pup but maybe getting a little bit slower,
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: it wouldn't be as big an issue to me if
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: you missed a day or two. Yeah, yeah, yeah, as
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: it is for a guy like Pulk right who's trying
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: to fight and prove that he's an NFL player.
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: All these guys are working hard. They're not wearing front workwear,
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: but you should when you're working.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: Uh. They make work boots in apparel that are built
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: for the job site. Their gear is comfortable, durable and
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: named after the real workers of the trades that helped
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: design it. And it's done right here in New England.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: You can even try brunt out on the job and
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: if it doesn't blow you away, they let you just
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: send it back. Save ten bucks on your first order
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: at brontworkwear dot com, forward slash pats or with coupon
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: code p A t S.
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: So get your Bront workwear I've got my three quarters.
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: Zip on you two for that, I mean, and Jean's
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: friend you you trust for.
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: Well, it's not that hot yet.
- 1:31:22Speaker 5: I'm saving the shorts out here at four.
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: Yeah, there was a little chilling.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: I'm saving the shorts for Friday and Saturday because it's
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: going to be really hot.
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: Fussed out the stems.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it's definitely gonna be hot those days.
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: Have we've seen Matt Collins running through these drills at all?
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: He came out, but he didn't have a helmet.
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: He went down with you. That's another interesting one. And
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: he hasn't done anything. I didn't see him in the spring.
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: Isn't doing anything now. I think he's pretty close to
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: being a lock on the roster. But he's not healthy.
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: He's not healthy.
- 1:31:53Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: I wonder about the pup thing to buy some time. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: a veteran that we know is going to be here.
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: This allows us to get extra time with Pulk Baker, Chisholm,
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: Booty Becorn.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: See.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: I would say, I just like saying that you're gonna
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: make fun of me. That's okay. I would say John
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: Giles showed out to as much to me. Spring is
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: any of those other secondary receivers. They targeted him now,
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: not Drake May. Those guys generally work with Josh Dobbs
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: and and thank you. I was going to struggle with
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: that other guy, but.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: He showed up.
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: John Giles. You know, he's a guy who was here
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: a little bit right.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: It's got good size last year good I.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: Mean hight weight. I mean he's got all the intangent
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: I mean Scout Team, Scout Team X guy that you're like,
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: all right, we got to go against the big dog
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: this week.
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: You're gonna play that part.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Don't make fun of me. Later they went nice, but
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: theyn't make fun of me.
- 1:32:49Speaker 6: You never make fun of you, you know.
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: I feel like matt is mac Collins a lock.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: I think I think he's a lot because of his
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: special Team's ability and just.
- 1:32:58Speaker 5: His leadership and and all that stuff too. And I
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: feel like he's here to kind of.
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: Plus you don't really want to least the millions, Like
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: you know, you give a guy in like a five
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: hundred thousand dollars signing bonus or something, you have to
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: cut him.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: Yea, this will sound funny, but like a million again,
- 1:33:11Speaker 3: I think he's the perfect number five receiver.
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: You know what I mean, And I don't mean that
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: as a negative.
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: But it's just like special teams. He's got, you know,
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: a little bit unique size and well I'll tell you
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: what I think too, and.
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: Not everybody has it. Some especially at that position.
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: They're deevs right.
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: They're used to getting the ball that used to be
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: the center of attention. Not all guys could just sit
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: around and all of a sudden in the middle of
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: the third quarter is the key play that hey, we
- 1:33:38Speaker 4: need this four receiver set, we need you, right, Matt
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: Collins is showing the ability to get you know, seven
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: snaps in the game, but find a way to make
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: two catches. Yeah, yeah, I mean he did it with
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: Buffalo a lot last year.
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: Was a huge call last year. Like I'm not talking
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: he's not ready Moss, but like he was a good
- 1:33:55Speaker 5: player in his role.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: When they asked him to make plays, he delivered.
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: And he can play a little in the slot and
- 1:34:00Speaker 5: us his size a little bit in the slot as well.
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: Like he's just he's a football player. He's a guy
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: that can be a good player.
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: It's kind of perfectly. It's not easy to do.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: There's a couple at that position, come off the bench
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: like that in a key in a key moment and
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: make the play.
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: He had a good year in McDaniels in Vegas a
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: couple of years ago. Was his career best, right, Yeah,
- 1:34:19Speaker 5: but Buffalo last year. I mean he was not a
- 1:34:21Speaker 5: bad player from Buffalo.
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: So you go back and you look, you've had ESPN
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: has been doing a lot of like wrap ups of
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: divisions and you know they show the Patriots that you know,
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: you see the Drake May scrambling around touchdown against Tennessee Buffalo.
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: There's like two or three different catches that Hollins makes, Yeah,
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: as part of their little package.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: He impressed me when we were in Vegas for joint practices.
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: I mean, I spent most of my time watching DeVante Adams,
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: you know, do his thing. But he seemed like just
- 1:34:47Speaker 3: a great compliment, you know, just a big outside receiver
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: that in those packages with multiple receivers, He's got a
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: presence on the outside and it's you know, he's playing
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: all your special teams.
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: He's a really good off the field guy. I think
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: that's what they're looking for.
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: I know Paul's gonna scoff at what I'm about to say.
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: He might be the best run blocking wide receiver in football,
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: Like dead serious, I'm not.
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: I'm not gonna scrap because because of what Mike said,
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: he's a fourth or fifth receiver. Yeah, he's an elite.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: I need that.
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: I need a guy. If you're gonna be that, you're
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: gonna have to go and be a gunner. You're gonna
- 1:35:22Speaker 4: have to block in the running game. That's what I want.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: That's going to bitching about not getting the right right.
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: And so if he's not bitching about knocking the ball,
- 1:35:31Speaker 6: what about the guy.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: Who's like the third receiver, Like, you can't be bitching
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: if the fifth guy, you know, who's.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: Digging out the nickel, Oh, we got it, mat Collins
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: going there and get his getting there and then get
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: the nose dirty.
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it sounds like he's a little ways off though,
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: So I mean it does without Polp. Without him, I
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: mean guys like Javal Baker. You got to take advantage
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: every single day that those guys aren't out here and
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: make the most of every time the ball comes your way.
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: You can't have. Beginning of camp, we saw a lot
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: of great stuff from Baker, and then we started to
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: see some drops and you know, it's just.
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: It became inconsistent. Can't can't go.
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: You can't repeat that if you want to try to
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: build towards making this roster and having a roll yep.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: So in a few minutes we're going to be saying goodbye.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: Our cameras will have to be shut off permanently, so
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: we'll let these guys get go downstairs and actually pay
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: real attention to practice.
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: But it'll be a shorter practice today.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Tomorrow we'll have Patriots Unfiltered at our little later after
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: right after practice, right after practice, right on THELL. So
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: we'll wrap up everything we saw the last two days tomorrow,
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: and you guys will do your podcast after every day
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: of practice.
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: So you want to go and subscribe to what is
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: it called.
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: Training Camps, Training camp Cast.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: Training camp Cast yep, so we'll do so we'll have
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: those after every practice.
- 1:36:51Speaker 2: You might do so show, we'll have those after every practice.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Obviously, Patriots dot Com in all the Patriots social accounts,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: we'll have content coming out the wazoo throughout training camp
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: this summer, so it's another good way to follow. So
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: lots going on. Our next live show from practice will
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: be Monday. We picked that day because we're told that's
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: going to be the first day in pads, and that's
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: always an exciting day to finally see them a little
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: bit more physical and shoulder pads. So that'll be on
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: Monday around the same time. I think probably, yeah, yeah,
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: We're wrapping up, but I just want to mention we
- 1:37:32Speaker 3: talked about the linebackers. We didn't even mention Christian Ellis,
- 1:37:34Speaker 3: who's out there and you know who they not only
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: signed to an initial restrictive free agent deal, but then
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: when the Raiders offered him, they they matched it and
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: gave him.
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: You know, a more significant deal.
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: So it was always the Raiders were trying to get
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: him to replace Splaine, and they're like, we only not
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: only kept Splaine, We're gonna we want to keep Ellis too.
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: So he's another guy who's a little bit of a
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: wild card. Is he on that trajectory of going from
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: special teams player to a real linebacker who tribute Zach
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: Bond last year being like the ultimate story of a
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: guy who signed a one year deal.
- 1:38:04Speaker 6: With Philadelphia and then just exploded. I don't know if
- 1:38:07Speaker 6: Ellis is on that.
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: Track, But so you're saying, going to be in my
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: first team all.
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: Right, exactly, But but maybe the Patriots do see that
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: kind of trajectory for him in this defense, that hey,
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: this is a guy who can run a little bit
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: and he fits him well at that at that inside linebacker,
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: respective if it's in nice and next to splane, you're
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: just from a body type and like skill guy.
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: Yeah, weak sidelinebacker.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: So Rabel's very active. I'm just wondering can he sustain
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: this all summer? I mean, how much going to have
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: to take after today because he's getting knocked around.
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, especially with all those years that was
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: the fourteen years in the NFL.
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: He drinks, Yeah, apparently, Dan Campbell drinks like a ridiculous
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: amount of coffee. That's how he gets, you know, has
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: all the energy.
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: That he has.
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: All you do is one of those celsius just like
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: five cups.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you're going to get up and on the way up,
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: we're going to buy a knell.
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Docter Henry talking with his head coach. Yeah,
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: we haven't even talked about the tight ends.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: I know, I know, I mean to Cooper seems like
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: to be a little bit for him too. So again
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: talking about opportunities for guys. You know, maybe at Jahem
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: Bell he's able to take advantage of check Westover stuff.
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: So waiting for one of those guys west Over Bell,
- 1:39:18Speaker 5: dupre Scott, somebody show us a little something.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: All right, Well, we're gonna have plenty to talk about
