Transcript
- 0:17Speaker 1: Oh well, hello there.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Oh man, Emily A Baudi here coming into your feeds
- 0:23Speaker 2: with another installment of five Minute Friday, and man, if
- 0:27Speaker 2: my head could be I don't think it's possible. It
- 0:30Speaker 2: is impossible for me to feel like my head's not
- 0:32Speaker 2: more all over the place. But I am harnessing the
- 0:36Speaker 2: power of my go to marathon mantra, which has come
- 0:39Speaker 2: back to calm as I gear up for marathon number
- 0:42Speaker 2: ten New York City Marathon number five this coming Sunday.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It's interesting, actually, because there's a lot going on right
- 0:52Speaker 2: now outside of the marathon, although the marathon feels all consuming,
- 0:56Speaker 2: and I think that this is a really special to
- 1:01Speaker 2: think about what that means for my life right being
- 1:04Speaker 2: a runner, it's something very important to me. I identify
- 1:08Speaker 2: as a runner, but as I spoke about in my
- 1:10Speaker 2: episodes on Injury as I've been dealing with a little
- 1:13Speaker 2: wonkiness for some time now and thankfully in a healthy
- 1:17Speaker 2: place to show up on Sunday. But I am more
- 1:20Speaker 2: than just a runner. I'm also a host. As you're
- 1:23Speaker 2: listening to my voice on this podcast right now. I
- 1:26Speaker 2: am a friend, I am a daughter, I am so
- 1:28Speaker 2: many things, and so I have this understanding that although
- 1:32Speaker 2: Sunday is a big moment for me, it is just
- 1:35Speaker 2: a part of my story. Speaking of the weekend, there
- 1:39Speaker 2: are a lot of other things that are very important
- 1:41Speaker 2: to me that are going on this weekend that kind
- 1:43Speaker 2: of go hand in hand with the other ways that
- 1:45Speaker 2: I identify mostly as a host. So on today, today,
- 1:52Speaker 2: So today I have the opportunity to sit down with
- 1:55Speaker 2: both Emily Sissen and Emma Coburn, and then tomorrow I
- 1:59Speaker 2: have the opportunity to sit down with Shalaine Flan Again.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I am going to be posting the Shalaine episode to
- 2:05Speaker 2: the feed on Tuesday, So don't freak out, Please don't
- 2:08Speaker 2: if you don't hear see you know something from Hurdle
- 2:11Speaker 2: on Monday.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I promise you it's coming on Tuesday and.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It's going to be worth the wait, followed by my
- 2:15Speaker 2: New York City Marathon recap on Wednesday. But I have
- 2:19Speaker 2: a lot going on with Hurdle in the next forty
- 2:21Speaker 2: eight hours, and then I'm running a marathon. And so
- 2:24Speaker 2: I recognize that all of these things in my life
- 2:28Speaker 2: they make up who I am, and in doing all
- 2:30Speaker 2: of these things, I have the opportunity to learn something
- 2:34Speaker 2: I don't have control over how everything goes. But what
- 2:38Speaker 2: I do have control over is preparing the best way
- 2:41Speaker 2: that I can to show up to each of these
- 2:43Speaker 2: events as my best self. And whether it is sitting
- 2:49Speaker 2: down with Slaine in front of a live audience on Saturday,
- 2:52Speaker 2: or showing up to the starting line in Saten Island
- 2:55Speaker 2: and running for three and a half hours through the
- 2:58Speaker 2: streets of New York City, all I can do is
- 3:02Speaker 2: give it all I've got. It's how I live, right,
- 3:05Speaker 2: It's what I live by, just this hope that if
- 3:08Speaker 2: I put my best foot forward, then things are going
- 3:11Speaker 2: to happen as they may. And regardless of maybe how
- 3:16Speaker 2: these things go, there is always a lesson to be learned.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It's not easy, right, It's not easy to approach things
- 3:24Speaker 2: or scenarios that you've been working really hard for or
- 3:26Speaker 2: toward for a long time with that kind of grace
- 3:29Speaker 2: because you have this big goal, right, But if you
- 3:33Speaker 2: can take a step back and think about that goal
- 3:38Speaker 2: and think about what that goal means. I'm kind of
- 3:41Speaker 2: inserting some of the vibes that I got from doctor
- 3:44Speaker 2: Shyanne Brian in Wednesday's episode, But we go after these
- 3:47Speaker 2: goals because they make us happy. The process of going
- 3:51Speaker 2: after the goals. They make us happy, and if it
- 3:54Speaker 2: didn't make us happy, then we wouldn't be chasing them
- 3:56Speaker 2: in the first place.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Whatever happens, there's reward in the journey.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And so right now I'm feeling really grateful, I'm feeling
- 4:04Speaker 2: a little anxious, I'm feeling really excited, But mostly I
- 4:08Speaker 2: know that come when I put my head down to
- 4:11Speaker 2: the pillow on Sunday night, I will have definitely learned
- 4:16Speaker 2: my fair share of lessons and have some memories to
- 4:19Speaker 2: last me a lifetime. My prompt for you this week
- 4:24Speaker 2: a lot about goal setting happening here on the hurdle
- 4:26Speaker 2: Feed since Wednesday. So what's one goal that you are
- 4:31Speaker 2: going after right now and what is one thing you
- 4:34Speaker 2: can highlight about the journey to that goal that brings
- 4:37Speaker 2: you joy? Again, what is one goal that you are
- 4:39Speaker 2: chasing right now and what is one thing that you
- 4:41Speaker 2: can highlight about your journey to that goal that brings
- 4:45Speaker 2: you joy? And now a listener question, Hi Emily, could
- 4:50Speaker 2: you please share what you plan to wear on race day,
- 4:53Speaker 2: including pre race and then also what you plan to
- 4:56Speaker 2: run in Thanks so much and good luck. Okay, So
- 4:59Speaker 2: the weather for Sunday New York City Marathon is supposed
- 5:01Speaker 2: to be fifty five degrees and sunny. When I show
- 5:04Speaker 2: up to the bus at five forty five am, it's
- 5:08Speaker 2: probably going to be about thirty eight degrees and dark.
- 5:11Speaker 2: So I when I show up to the bus, I'm
- 5:14Speaker 2: going to be carrying my old poncho from the New
- 5:18Speaker 2: York City Marathon, plus wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants over
- 5:22Speaker 2: what I'm wearing to run the marathon in. Now, the
- 5:25Speaker 2: rule of thumb for dressing for running is that you
- 5:27Speaker 2: want to dress like it is fifteen degrees hotter outside
- 5:30Speaker 2: than it actually is. I don't start until nine to
- 5:33Speaker 2: fifty five am, which means I'm going to be running
- 5:35Speaker 2: a bulk of this marathon between ten am and one pm.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I'm not running a three hour marathon, but you get
- 5:41Speaker 2: the gist of what I'm saying here. And so that's
- 5:44Speaker 2: in the middle of the day, right That's when it's
- 5:46Speaker 2: definitely starting to heat up, which means that although the
- 5:48Speaker 2: high for the day is fifty five degrees, at some
- 5:51Speaker 2: point during my marathon, I might feel like it's up
- 5:54Speaker 2: to seventy degrees, which means that once I'm heading into
- 5:59Speaker 2: my starting corral. Well, those sweatpants, that sweatshirt, at that blanket,
- 6:03Speaker 2: all of it is getting donated and the bins that
- 6:05Speaker 2: will be there to accept all of the donations from
- 6:07Speaker 2: all of the runners. And I'm running this marathon in shorts,
- 6:10Speaker 2: tank top, and some bandit running socks. I'm wearing my
- 6:15Speaker 2: Team Old Man Run Club singlet. I'm wearing either an
- 6:19Speaker 2: under armour or a Nike Sports bra. I'm wearing my
- 6:22Speaker 2: go tolul Lemon Invigorate shorts. I'm wearing bandit running socks,
- 6:28Speaker 2: and i am wearing the Nike Vapor Fly next percent
- 6:32Speaker 2: the first iteration of those, that's it.
- 6:36Speaker 1: That's what I'm wearing.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Afterward, I will be running to get into warmer clothes.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna hopefully hint my parents, who I'll be meeting
- 6:45Speaker 2: up with when I'm done, to have some stuff on
- 6:47Speaker 2: standby for me.
- 6:48Speaker 1: But that's it. That's the game plan.
- 6:51Speaker 2: If you have any other pressing questions about what's going
- 6:56Speaker 2: on on Sunday and need any last minute tips, feel
- 6:58Speaker 2: free to shoot me an email.
- 7:00Speaker 1: It's over at Emily at hurdle dot us.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I'm so excited for all of you running out there
- 7:05Speaker 2: and thanks everyone for you know, sticking with me over
- 7:09Speaker 2: the last few weeks. Right now, I know that the
- 7:11Speaker 2: content on the show Ebbs and Flows as my interests
- 7:15Speaker 2: of and flow, and right now this marathon is of
- 7:17Speaker 2: a lot of importance to me. But I want you
- 7:20Speaker 2: to know that I do care about you, whether or
- 7:23Speaker 2: not you identify as a runner. My goal as always
- 7:26Speaker 2: to help you figure out what healthy means to you,
- 7:30Speaker 2: give you essential wellness tips and tricks so that you
- 7:33Speaker 2: can progress on your own individual healthy wellness journey.
- 7:39Speaker 1: That's it for now. Wish me luck another hurdle conquered.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Catch you guys next time.
