- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Lucas, I've been dreaming of a beach day. Can we teach some beach phrases today? Lucas: Absolutely. The coast is stunning. Let's start simple: 'Nataka kwenda pwani.' Means 'I want to go to the beach.' Luna: Nataka kwenda pwani. That flows nicely. Nataka kwenda pwani. Lucas: Good. Now if you're looking for the beach, ask 'Pwani iko wapi?' — 'Where is the beach?' Luna: Pwani iko wapi? That could be handy. Pwani iko wapi? Lucas: Perfect. Now imagine you're there. You see the ocean. You might say 'Maji ni safi' — 'The water is clean.' Luna: Maji ni safi. That's a good one. Maji ni safi. Lucas: And if it's hot, you can comment 'Jua ni kali' — 'The sun is strong.' Luna: Jua ni kali. I feel that already. Kalifornia sun, but in Swahili! Lucas: Exactly. And when you're ready to jump in, 'Nataka kuogelea' — 'I want to swim.' Luna: Nataka kuogelea. That's the spirit. Let's practice all five once more. Lucas: Sure. Repeat after me: Nataka kwenda pwani. Luna: Nataka kwenda pwani. Lucas: Pwani iko wapi? Luna: Pwani iko wapi? Lucas: Maji ni safi. Luna: Maji ni safi. Lucas: Jua ni kali. Luna: Jua ni kali. Lucas: Nataka kuogelea. Luna: Nataka kuogelea. Great. Lucas, if this podcast helps people actually use Swahili, it's because of listeners like you. And if today felt useful, the way we stay ad-free is listener support. You can go to buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, that's it. Just a small way to keep these lessons coming. Now, back to the beach. Let's put it together in a mini-conversation. Luna: Let's do it. I'll be a tourist. You be a local. Lucas: Okay. 'Pwani iko wapi?' Luna: Hmm, I'd answer 'Pwani iko karibu.' But we haven't learned 'karibu' yet. So I'll just say 'Pwani iko huko' — the beach is over there. Lucas: Nice improvisation. Then I say 'Asante. Nataka kwenda pwani.' Luna: Then you arrive. You see the water: 'Maji ni safi!' And the sun: 'Jua ni kali!' Lucas: Exactly. And then the best part: 'Nataka kuogelea!' Luna: Yes! So now, listeners, you have five phrases to enjoy the coast. Practice them, and next time you're near the ocean, use them. Lucas: Let's do a quick review one more time. Nataka kwenda pwani. Luna: I want to go to the beach. Lucas: Pwani iko wapi? Luna: Where is the beach? Lucas: Maji ni safi. Luna: The water is clean. Lucas: Jua ni kali. Luna: The sun is strong. Lucas: Nataka kuogelea. Luna: I want to swim. Amazing. Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to everyone listening. Keep practicing with Fexingo. Lucas: Yes, see you next time for more Swahili. Kwa heri. Luna: Kwa heri!
