- 0:00Speaker 1: Peace on earth. The shepherds went their hasty way and
- 0:06Speaker 1: found the lowly stable shed where the virgin mother lay.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And now they checked their eager tread, for to the
- 0:16Speaker 1: babe that at her bosom clung a mother's song. The
- 0:20Speaker 1: Virgin mother sung. They told her how a glorious light
- 0:26Speaker 1: streaming from a heavenly throng around them, shone suspending night,
- 0:32Speaker 1: while sweeter than a mother's song, blessed angels heralded the
- 0:37Speaker 1: saviour's birth, Glory to God on high and peace on earth.
- 0:45Speaker 1: She listened to the tale divine, and closer still the
- 0:49Speaker 1: babe she pressed, And while she cried, the babe is mine,
- 0:55Speaker 1: the milk rushed faster to her breast. Joy rose within
- 1:00Speaker 1: her like a summer's morn. Peace, peace on earth. The
- 1:06Speaker 1: Prince of peace is born, thou mother of the Prince
- 1:11Speaker 1: of peace, poor simple and of low estate, that strife
- 1:16Speaker 1: should vanish, battle cease? Oh, why should this thy soul
- 1:20Speaker 1: elate sweet music's loudest note. The poet's story, Didst thou
- 1:27Speaker 1: ne'er love to hear of fame and glory? And is
- 1:31Speaker 1: not war? A youthful king, a stately hero clad in
- 1:36Speaker 1: mail beneath his footsteps Laurel spring him. Earth's majestic monarchs
- 1:42Speaker 1: hail their friend, their playmate, and his bold, bright eye
- 1:48Speaker 1: compels the maiden's love confessing sigh. Tell this in some
- 1:53Speaker 1: more courtly scene to maids and youths in robes of state.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I am a woman poor and mean, and therefore is
- 2:03Speaker 1: my soul elate. War is a ruffian, all with guilt
- 2:08Speaker 1: defiled that from the aged father tears his child, A
- 2:14Speaker 1: murderous fiend by fiends adored. He kills the sire and
- 2:19Speaker 1: starves the sun. The husband kills, and from her hoard
- 2:24Speaker 1: steals all his widow's toil had won, plunders. God's world
- 2:29Speaker 1: of beauty rends away all safety from the night, all
- 2:35Speaker 1: comfort from the day. Then, wisely is my soul elate
- 2:40Speaker 1: that strife should vanish, battle cease. I'm poor and of
- 2:45Speaker 1: a low estate. The mother of the Prince of Peace.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Joy rises in me like a summer's morn. Peace, peace
- 2:55Speaker 1: on earth. The Prince of Peace is born.
