- 0:57Speaker 3: to joint practice. We're here, all right. It is Paul Parrella, myself,
- 1:01Speaker 3: Fred Kirsch, Mike du So, Evan Lazar. We'll be here
- 1:05Speaker 3: for most of the joint practice, at least what we
- 1:07Speaker 3: can film by the rules. And this is exciting because
- 1:12Speaker 3: it's not just one day. It's two days with the
- 1:14Speaker 3: Philadelphia Eagles. And we all remember the last time the
- 1:17Speaker 3: Eagles were here for you.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We're gonna talk about that.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I can't forget it. It was traumatic for me anyway.
- 1:22Speaker 2: It's traumatic for them.
- 1:25Speaker 3: I still have Philadelphia Trauma SD, whatever that stands for.
- 1:31Speaker 3: But as we do always when with a joint practice,
- 1:34Speaker 3: we'll go along the table and you know, what are
- 1:36Speaker 3: you looking for today?
- 1:37Speaker 2: What do you hope to see?
- 1:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll jump off. I think for me, it's all
- 1:41Speaker 5: about kind of what you talked about.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Friend.
- 1:42Speaker 5: In the last practice, their interior defensive line dominated that
- 1:46Speaker 5: whole practice, and you know, I've had some questions about
- 1:49Speaker 5: the interior of the Patriots offensive line, especially with Jared
- 1:51Speaker 5: Wilson making the move to center, being able to handle
- 1:54Speaker 5: big guys like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, And I
- 1:57Speaker 5: think today that's that's the key matchup to me watching
- 2:00Speaker 5: the interior trio with the Patriots offensive line being able
- 2:03Speaker 5: to maintain the pocket, let Drake may step up.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And make throws.
- 2:06Speaker 5: I think, you know, if they're able to do that,
- 2:08Speaker 5: I think Patriots have the weapons in the quarterback to
- 2:10Speaker 5: make plays, but it all starts up front, and this
- 2:13Speaker 5: is as big of a challenge as I think you
- 2:15Speaker 5: can get.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I'm excited to see how well at least this time
- 2:17Speaker 3: we have one of their guys. We've got Milton Williams.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Two years ago, he was on the Eagles and he
- 2:21Speaker 3: was part of the day, that part of the group
- 2:25Speaker 3: that ruined the day for the Patriots.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Evan, what are you looking.
- 2:28Speaker 1: At similar things?
- 2:29Speaker 6: I think you can make the argument that the Eagles
- 2:31Speaker 6: have the best line of scrimmage play of any team
- 2:33Speaker 6: in football, both sides the line of scrimmage, and I
- 2:36Speaker 6: think that's where it starts today, whether it's blocking Jalen
- 2:40Speaker 6: Carter and Jordan Davis, or it's getting to the quarterback.
- 2:44Speaker 6: And I think, you know, last week it clew a
- 2:46Speaker 6: little bit under the radar. But Mike Rabil gave a
- 2:48Speaker 6: quote to Bob Soci in the pregame show on the
- 2:50Speaker 6: Sports Up saying defense didn't play well against the Colts
- 2:53Speaker 6: in that joint practice. It didn't affect the quarterback enough,
- 2:56Speaker 6: put enough pressure on the quarterback. But now you have
- 2:58Speaker 6: Jordan Mylatta and Lane John here to you know, keep
- 3:01Speaker 6: you away from the quarterback. So can that pass rush
- 3:04Speaker 6: get home? The Patriots pass rush against maybe the best
- 3:07Speaker 6: offensive line in the league.
- 3:08Speaker 7: Paul, Yeah, I mean I think that they hit on
- 3:10Speaker 7: the number one thing to keep an eye on, and
- 3:12Speaker 7: Vrabel even said it in this press conference that just
- 3:15Speaker 7: ended a short time ago, about the physicality that Philadelphia brings.
- 3:18Speaker 7: But I'll look at a couple of different things, just
- 3:21Speaker 7: to sort of get on a different topic. Aj Brown
- 3:24Speaker 7: obviously is going to have a lot of attention today,
- 3:26Speaker 7: you know, coming from Philadelphia. But it's all those weapons
- 3:29Speaker 7: might really just touched on. They should have the weapons
- 3:32Speaker 7: to make some plays well. The Eagles are also pretty
- 3:34Speaker 7: tough in the secondary with guys like Quinon Mitchell and
- 3:37Speaker 7: Koopa Dejene.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So I hope everybody's playing.
- 3:41Speaker 7: I'm not as up to speed, you know, I've gotten
- 3:44Speaker 7: the same kind of stuff happened last week when we
- 3:46Speaker 7: talked about the colt. You never know who's going to
- 3:47Speaker 7: be out there. I know Jonathan grantor won't be, which
- 3:50Speaker 7: is unfortunate because that would have been a good measuring
- 3:52Speaker 7: stick for Will Campbell. But that secondary can cause some
- 3:56Speaker 7: problems for the Eagles too, So assuming that they get
- 3:59Speaker 7: some time, can may use his new guys like Romeo Dobbs,
- 4:02Speaker 7: AJ Brown against you know what I think is a
- 4:04Speaker 7: pretty good secondary.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah, personally, two days ago, the Patriots had what I
- 4:09Speaker 3: thought was their best practice when it came to the offense.
- 4:12Speaker 3: I mean, it was humming, So that kind of changed
- 4:16Speaker 3: things for me. I'm with you, guys. I want to
- 4:18Speaker 3: see the trenches. I want to see who owns that
- 4:20Speaker 3: battle offense and defense. But I want to see if
- 4:23Speaker 3: they can continue what they did a couple days ago
- 4:25Speaker 3: with the efficiency of that offense. Now, of course, if
- 4:29Speaker 3: they lose the trenches, forget it, They're not going to
- 4:32Speaker 3: be able to run their offense. But I want to
- 4:34Speaker 3: see if they could continue what I saw on Monday, because,
- 4:38Speaker 3: like I said on Patriots Unfiltered yesterday, that was the
- 4:41Speaker 3: best day of offense I've seen all summer.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Yeah, me too. They just really drake clicking consistency. I
- 4:46Speaker 5: think that's the biggest word for me. They've had practices
- 4:49Speaker 5: where you've seen flash moments and there's been good you
- 4:53Speaker 5: know periods, But I think what's been missing has been
- 4:55Speaker 5: the consistent practice where it's looks good from start to finish.
- 4:59Speaker 5: It isn't a slow star art, uh, it isn't an
- 5:01Speaker 5: end with an interception.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Uh.
- 5:03Speaker 5: And I think that's what you know to your point, Fred,
- 5:05Speaker 5: we saw, but this is a you know, great stall around.
- 5:08Speaker 5: I mean, this is a good team that's got talent
- 5:09Speaker 5: at every position, that's what you know. I'm looking down
- 5:12Speaker 5: their depth chart and it's like, you know, I'm excited
- 5:13Speaker 5: to see the rookie McKay Lemon that they brought in
- 5:16Speaker 5: in the first round, who you know, is a guy
- 5:18Speaker 5: that's got to maybe make up some of the slack
- 5:20Speaker 5: for a J. Brown not being there. DeVante Smith, I know,
- 5:22Speaker 5: just returned. We'll see how much of him that we see.
- 5:25Speaker 5: But you know, and pretty much is a tough day
- 5:27Speaker 5: of because anywhere you look on the field, there's gonna
- 5:29Speaker 5: be like, oh, look, you.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Know there's a good matchup there. Everywhere it's a three
- 5:32Speaker 2: ring circus.
- 5:33Speaker 3: You really need, you know, multiple people to keep track
- 5:37Speaker 3: of what's going on. Uh there's Robert Splane out there
- 5:41Speaker 3: always always early, first one on, last one off.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 5: No, it's uh, no one, No one appreciates being on
- 5:48Speaker 5: the field, I think more than Robert Spolene. I mean
- 5:50Speaker 5: just it's every day all summer long. And you know
- 5:52Speaker 5: today this is I mean really today and tomorrow. This
- 5:54Speaker 5: is the peak of training camp, right like this is
- 5:56Speaker 5: the the highlight of the summer as far as getting
- 5:58Speaker 5: to watch these practices and you know, having a few
- 6:01Speaker 5: weeks now under their belt, getting a little bit of
- 6:04Speaker 5: a litmus test. That was the word of the day yesterday, right,
- 6:06Speaker 5: litmus test is this illigious measuring stick.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Some of that stuff I think is overblown.
- 6:12Speaker 5: But at the same time, like we walked out of
- 6:14Speaker 5: that Eagles practice two years ago and we're like, Wow,
- 6:17Speaker 5: this is going to be a struggle this year.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I don't think we're in.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Danger of anything quite that bad, but it'd be great
- 6:21Speaker 5: to see some of the weak points, especially you know,
- 6:23Speaker 5: for me, interior offensive line. Seeing that come together with
- 6:26Speaker 5: that new look, with those two new guys playing new
- 6:28Speaker 5: positions in there, that to me is could really have
- 6:31Speaker 5: a positive effect here as you get really into the
- 6:33Speaker 5: last week of this and then you're onto Seattle.
- 6:35Speaker 7: Yeah, it's pretty clear that Vrabel likes to use those things.
- 6:39Speaker 7: You know, we saw him do it a lot of
- 6:40Speaker 7: times last year, you know, starting with that game in
- 6:43Speaker 7: Buffalo on the national televised game. He played it up.
- 6:46Speaker 7: He doesn't shy away from me. He wants to create challenges.
- 6:49Speaker 7: I think that he's using that kind of stuff. Maybe
- 6:52Speaker 7: he's even talking about what happened in the team two
- 6:53Speaker 7: years ago with Philadelphia. How many times did he mention
- 6:57Speaker 7: how the sustained success that the Eagles had over the
- 7:00Speaker 7: last several years. I think he opened his press compensated
- 7:04Speaker 7: by saying it was very intentional that they are playing
- 7:07Speaker 7: these these two joint practices against this team. So I
- 7:10Speaker 7: do think that that's something that Vrabel has been really
- 7:13Speaker 7: you know, eyeing and impressing upon his players. We can
- 7:16Speaker 7: sort of joke at a measuring stick. You know, it's
- 7:18Speaker 7: still not real, but I think they're using it as
- 7:22Speaker 7: a measuring stick.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I think Mike said so.
- 7:24Speaker 6: I don't think anybody would be totally shocked if in
- 7:27Speaker 6: six months these two teams are playing in the Super Bowl.
- 7:29Speaker 6: Like I think both teams have rosters that are built
- 7:31Speaker 6: for that. And the Eagles have been there a couple
- 7:33Speaker 6: of times this decade, and the Patriots were there last year.
- 7:36Speaker 6: It's a really good team. But you know, Freddie talked
- 7:38Speaker 6: about the offense the other day. I think a big
- 7:40Speaker 6: part of why the offense has been successful lately is
- 7:42Speaker 6: because they've had clean pockets and Drake May's had time
- 7:45Speaker 6: to look down the field and push the ball down
- 7:48Speaker 6: the field. And I think that's a big sort of
- 7:51Speaker 6: context thing that you struggle with in these practices. How
- 7:54Speaker 6: much of that is the improvement of the Patriots offensive
- 7:56Speaker 6: line versus how much of that is what they're going
- 7:59Speaker 6: against in these eternal practices. I thought they were pretty
- 8:02Speaker 6: good against the Colts too, But this is a step
- 8:04Speaker 6: up from the Colts.
- 8:05Speaker 1: This is the Eagles bring.
- 8:07Speaker 6: More talent on the defensive line than what the Colts
- 8:10Speaker 6: are bringing here. So can they keep Drake May as
- 8:13Speaker 6: clean as he was on Monday to go fifteen for
- 8:16Speaker 6: seventeen with multiple downfield completions. If they can't, then it's
- 8:19Speaker 6: not going to look that pretty. So we'll see.
- 8:22Speaker 2: You mentioned the Colts.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They played the Colts in the first preseason game last Thursday,
- 8:26Speaker 3: and we know all the players who played in that game,
- 8:29Speaker 3: and we know all the players who didn't play in
- 8:31Speaker 3: that game, most of the starters. But of the players
- 8:34Speaker 3: who played, will you be looking today to see if
- 8:38Speaker 3: any of those players get more run today? In other words,
- 8:43Speaker 3: did the coaching staff see something in a player on
- 8:46Speaker 3: Thursday that earned them time at.
- 8:49Speaker 4: This joint practice?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:50Speaker 5: I think that's a you know, a good question. That's
- 8:52Speaker 5: something we talked about this week a little bit with
- 8:54Speaker 5: you know, just the depth and we tell that drill
- 8:56Speaker 5: that they did on you know during practice where it
- 8:59Speaker 5: was you know, kind of one ones but with depth
- 9:01Speaker 5: guys and the guys trying to like find a roster spot.
- 9:04Speaker 5: You've got some injuries now, so some opportunities are open up,
- 9:07Speaker 5: maybe at linebacker. You know, Mike Vrabel said before that
- 9:10Speaker 5: Christian Ellis might be a little limited today, So you know,
- 9:12Speaker 5: might you see a little bit more of a guy
- 9:14Speaker 5: like kJ Britt who popped a little bit in that game,
- 9:17Speaker 5: or even a young guy like Nondo but Obiiser. So
- 9:20Speaker 5: I think that's it's an interesting question, and that's like, well,
- 9:23Speaker 5: how we kind of play this game of you know,
- 9:24Speaker 5: who's going to get the most work in this joint practice,
- 9:26Speaker 5: who's going to need to get into the game and
- 9:28Speaker 5: get more work there. So I guess we got to
- 9:30Speaker 5: kind of see how this plays out over two days,
- 9:33Speaker 5: because these two days of joints are always so interesting
- 9:35Speaker 5: to me.
- 9:35Speaker 2: How they you know, kind of unfold.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Remember last year we were in Minnesota a lot of times
- 9:39Speaker 5: the second take it's a little bit feisty.
- 9:42Speaker 2: We saw some of that last year as well.
- 9:45Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm I'm interested that linebacker spot is one
- 9:47Speaker 5: and just you know, Caleb Lomu continuing to get him reps.
- 9:50Speaker 2: What does that look like?
- 9:51Speaker 5: Do they protect Morgan Moses All in something like this
- 9:54Speaker 5: over the course of two days. Some of these vets
- 9:56Speaker 5: might need a little bit of time off. I think
- 9:58Speaker 5: over these, you know, two practices in a game.
- 10:00Speaker 3: When you say Lomu getting reps, you're talking about at tackle.
- 10:03Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we haven't seen him really go back to guard,
- 10:05Speaker 5: and so I think that's a little bit off the
- 10:08Speaker 5: table right now. I think some of the conversation this
- 10:10Speaker 5: week in the press conference has kind of led you
- 10:12Speaker 5: to believe, you know, Mike Frable saying, you guys might think,
- 10:14Speaker 5: like me, it's easy to move inside, but some of
- 10:17Speaker 5: the coaches don't think that.
- 10:18Speaker 2: So what I read into that was that, yeah, we're.
- 10:20Speaker 5: Missing depth right now on the interior offensive line. Of
- 10:23Speaker 5: course that was you know, before they signed Greg Van Roten,
- 10:26Speaker 5: but John Hannah, Yeah, so I think you're definitely gonna
- 10:31Speaker 5: see Lomu at tackle, and you know Devan's point, these
- 10:33Speaker 5: are this is a great challenge for him.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I think you know, some of those guys that
- 10:38Speaker 6: we saw in the preseason game, if you just look
- 10:40Speaker 6: at their actions. You know, they signed greg Van Roten
- 10:43Speaker 6: to back up the offensive line in the interior. They
- 10:46Speaker 6: had two visits yesterday with Daikwon Jones, Shaq Thompson at
- 10:50Speaker 6: defensive tackle and at linebacker. Linebacker Chad Muma has not
- 10:54Speaker 6: been practicing and he had kind of a rough preseason
- 10:57Speaker 6: game and then he got hurt and now he's not
- 10:58Speaker 6: been practicing. Chack Thompson's a guy that's played in the league.
- 11:01Speaker 6: You know, dai Kwon Jones has played for Mike Rabel
- 11:04Speaker 6: in Tennessee. Do they not like what they saw necessarily
- 11:07Speaker 6: at a Leonard Taylor and Eric Gregory and Josh Farmer
- 11:11Speaker 6: and those guys in that preseason game. I think that
- 11:13Speaker 6: that might tell you a little bit of something about
- 11:16Speaker 6: where they're thinking. Is so those guys, I think all
- 11:18Speaker 6: those guys have kind of been challenged now, Like you know,
- 11:21Speaker 6: we were looking around, you know, we're looking for veteran
- 11:24Speaker 6: guys that have played a lot of football that can
- 11:25Speaker 6: come in here and be the backups that we thought
- 11:28Speaker 6: you guys were going to emerge and be.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's a push.
- 11:31Speaker 7: I like both of those guys, by the way, too,
- 11:33Speaker 7: just you know, I think they make sense from an
- 11:36Speaker 7: experience standpoint. I like the way I have said, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 7: two NFL guys, we're not just taking flyers here, and
- 11:42Speaker 7: I think that both positions of need in terms of depth. Yeah,
- 11:46Speaker 7: you know, so I would I would welcome both of
- 11:48Speaker 7: those guys.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 11:49Speaker 5: I think Daikwon Jones goes to what we said kind
- 11:51Speaker 5: of all summer of like you can go out and
- 11:53Speaker 5: find in those teamicle you can find one of these
- 11:54Speaker 5: guys who's thirty two to thirty three years old, and
- 11:57Speaker 5: they're not going to need to be there from day
- 11:58Speaker 5: one in camp. So, you know, does that reflect upon
- 12:02Speaker 5: I think Corey Durden's kind of got a spot, but
- 12:04Speaker 5: you know, Leonard Taylor and the other guy's coming down
- 12:06Speaker 5: the depth chart, Josh Farmer, those guys, is it, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 5: any bit of a reflection on their play and how
- 12:12Speaker 5: they feel. I don't know, but I just think that
- 12:14Speaker 5: HEYJ Britt, Hey J Britt, Good day for him. But
- 12:17Speaker 5: I just think this is what good teams do you
- 12:19Speaker 5: build depth with with NFL players, And they brought in
- 12:22Speaker 5: these two rookie offensive linemen earlier this week. That doesn't
- 12:24Speaker 5: really move the needle for me, But you know, Daikwon Jones, Shack.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Thompson, that would for sure, So bring it in the linebacker.
- 12:29Speaker 3: What does that say about Chris jian Ellis's status?
- 12:32Speaker 6: Yeah, help, Yeah, I looked at it more as a
- 12:34Speaker 6: Muma thingy because he hasn't been practicing. And you know,
- 12:38Speaker 6: Khalil Jacobs, I think is somebody that has a promising
- 12:42Speaker 6: future ahead of him at linebacker, but he's an undrafted rookie.
- 12:45Speaker 6: You're not gonna really rely on him. I don't think
- 12:47Speaker 6: too much this season and more of a developmental, long
- 12:50Speaker 6: term type of investment. So I think that you know,
- 12:53Speaker 6: a guy like Shaq Thompson maybe more like a Muma.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Replacement if they need it, if they need it.
- 12:58Speaker 6: But you know, I I thought Mike Rabel after the
- 13:02Speaker 6: game on Thursday night said that the first half that
- 13:05Speaker 6: he didn't love what he saw from the defense, especially
- 13:07Speaker 6: the defensive line, and the tape you know, kind of
- 13:10Speaker 6: said the same thing. And second half they came out
- 13:12Speaker 6: they were a little bit better, but that's the second half.
- 13:15Speaker 6: You know, now you're playing you know, third and four
- 13:17Speaker 6: string guys on the offensive line. So I think that
- 13:20Speaker 6: those guys Farmer, Leonard Taylor, you know, Eric Gregory Farms,
- 13:27Speaker 6: like they they need to show a little bit more.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That new guy, right is sixty.
- 13:33Speaker 1: No, that's that's the other guy.
- 13:35Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, it's mccowsky, Sorry, Vane Cayden Wallace.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So one of the things that gets me excited about
- 13:43Speaker 3: going into this twenty twenty sixth season is.
- 13:46Speaker 4: The fact that a lot of our discussion is depth.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we're not talking about who's going to start, and
- 13:53Speaker 3: that's the sign of a developed.
- 13:54Speaker 6: Roster anywhere for it. But like, yeah, like there really
- 13:58Speaker 6: isn't a starting job available. Yeah, I mean, I know
- 14:01Speaker 6: everybody is kind of harping on the interior offensive line
- 14:04Speaker 6: and Elijah Veritucker has gotten some flak for maybe a
- 14:07Speaker 6: slower camp and all this stuff. But we're not talking about,
- 14:10Speaker 6: you know, a competition at any of those spots like that.
- 14:13Speaker 6: Those are the five, Like that's gonna be your group.
- 14:15Speaker 6: You boy called it a host of cards yesterday, Alex
- 14:18Speaker 6: bark Car. I don't know if one of those guys
- 14:21Speaker 6: goes down, it's like a housse of cards. I just like, Okay,
- 14:24Speaker 6: who doesn't say that?
- 14:25Speaker 1: The only thing right, there's seventy, there's Greg Van Rotten.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Loo's all your starters you might be in trouble.
- 14:30Speaker 7: That's the only thing I would say is like he
- 14:33Speaker 7: said one, he said one starter.
- 14:35Speaker 2: It's a host of cards.
- 14:36Speaker 6: You look across the league, like how many teams have
- 14:39Speaker 6: third and four string guards and tackles that they feel
- 14:42Speaker 6: great about. But I actually feel pretty good about the
- 14:44Speaker 6: Patriots tackle depth right now. I mean just relative to
- 14:47Speaker 6: there's no depth across the league at that position. They
- 14:50Speaker 6: have two starters, they have a first round picking, Caleblomu,
- 14:53Speaker 6: and Marcus Bryant's really had a good summer. He's really
- 14:55Speaker 6: made a push. So that's four guys that I feel
- 14:59Speaker 6: like could be function.
- 15:00Speaker 7: I think it's fine, I said, I thought it was
- 15:02Speaker 7: fine before Van Roton. Now I think that's a good move.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Good teams make sure they have layers of death. So
- 15:08Speaker 7: I think it's a really good move to bring in
- 15:09Speaker 7: Van Roten. No surprise, by the way, chatting it up
- 15:12Speaker 7: with Tommy DeVito. Yeah, Giants teammates in the past, Little
- 15:16Speaker 7: Giants in action.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 15:17Speaker 6: I think once Ben Brown got hurt that one became
- 15:19Speaker 6: more of a necessity Van Roten, because you were starting
- 15:23Speaker 6: to put guys like you know, Makay Butler's and like
- 15:25Speaker 6: those types of players into some real snaps, but Butler
- 15:28Speaker 6: is going to be okay for the season. A brownie
- 15:31Speaker 6: means I mean brown. I think that there. I think
- 15:33Speaker 6: that that's the the general sense that Heath Rabel has
- 15:37Speaker 6: given is that you know, it's not a long term injury.
- 15:39Speaker 6: But I think Van Roten is a guy that doesn't
- 15:44Speaker 6: make you feel like you have to push Caleb Bloom
- 15:47Speaker 6: who inside immediately, you know, and you don't have to
- 15:49Speaker 6: go to those types of different things even in practice.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Like I think that you want to have a second
- 15:55Speaker 6: unit on the offensive line that you feel like can
- 15:58Speaker 6: at least run at practice and feel pretty good about.
- 16:01Speaker 1: So I like that move.
- 16:02Speaker 6: I I don't think it's, you know, a game changer,
- 16:04Speaker 6: but these are the different areas that they're looking at,
- 16:07Speaker 6: you know, interior offensive line, defensive tackle, linebacker, like those
- 16:11Speaker 6: are the spots that they clearly feel like they need
- 16:13Speaker 6: some more depth.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Like very able chatting it up. I'm not sure who
- 16:16Speaker 3: he's talking with. It's not Nick Sirianni.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Might have been Vic van Gio, the shorter guy defensive coordinator.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Okay, all the rage very good, very very good.
- 16:27Speaker 4: So so we're not talking about starters.
- 16:29Speaker 3: However, there is one starter who won't be out there,
- 16:34Speaker 3: Christian Gonzales.
- 16:35Speaker 4: Uh.
- 16:35Speaker 3: And we're hoping in that, you know, we we know
- 16:40Speaker 3: it's a combination of being hurt and probably the contract
- 16:44Speaker 3: because you get a little tweak and it's like, you
- 16:47Speaker 3: know what, maybe I shouldn't be out here. And as
- 16:51Speaker 3: far as the status that goes, there's a million reports
- 16:54Speaker 3: that they're far apart, other reports that it's just a
- 16:58Speaker 3: matter of when not if.
- 17:01Speaker 2: So, But we don't know. I'm sure we're gonna get
- 17:04Speaker 2: a lot.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Of questions on the email podcast at Patriots dot com
- 17:07Speaker 3: about what his status is.
- 17:10Speaker 2: You're what we know is what's out there.
- 17:12Speaker 4: We don't know anything more than that. We're hoping that
- 17:15Speaker 4: it gets done.
- 17:18Speaker 3: You know, he is under contract, so whether or not
- 17:20Speaker 3: he plays this year, if it doesn't get done, it's
- 17:23Speaker 3: in his best interest to play because if you don't,
- 17:26Speaker 3: then you don't get credit for the season and you're
- 17:29Speaker 3: still that much further.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Away from free agency.
- 17:31Speaker 3: So but you know, let's see now if if the
- 17:36Speaker 3: worst case happens. Now you are talking about some issues
- 17:40Speaker 3: depth wise and starting wise at cornerback.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, times running out for us. I mean, I think
- 17:45Speaker 2: after these two practices.
- 17:46Speaker 5: We have Monday Tuesday next week that we'll we'll get
- 17:48Speaker 5: to see it not open to the public, but after
- 17:50Speaker 5: that point they close it down.
- 17:52Speaker 2: It's it's on to regular season.
- 17:53Speaker 5: So are we going to see Gonzalez back out at
- 17:57Speaker 5: practice before he has a new contract to those two
- 17:59Speaker 5: things maybe tail into each other and oh, look, he's
- 18:02Speaker 5: back in practice and there's.
- 18:03Speaker 2: A new contract. Maybe I'm just kind.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Of hoping it gets done so that doesn't hang over
- 18:07Speaker 5: the season and it doesn't continue to be, you know,
- 18:09Speaker 5: a distraction.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Especially going into Week one against Seattle.
- 18:12Speaker 5: I mean, they're all gonna be talking about, Hey, we
- 18:14Speaker 5: resigned Witherspoon, Why haven't you guys resigned Gonzales.
- 18:17Speaker 2: So I think the sooner they can get.
- 18:19Speaker 5: That all taken care of, those were the two key
- 18:21Speaker 5: pieces to me coming into camp.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Figure out gay Bacchus.
- 18:24Speaker 5: They've done that, They've gotten him into the mix, and
- 18:26Speaker 5: get Gonzalez all squared away, And I think once those
- 18:28Speaker 5: things are taken care of, all the bookkeeping, all that
- 18:30Speaker 5: stuff is off the plate, and you're ready to go
- 18:33Speaker 5: for the regular season.
- 18:34Speaker 3: So you mentioned gay Bacchus, and I asked the question earlier,
- 18:37Speaker 3: Guys who got run Thursday night, and who might get
- 18:41Speaker 3: run today?
- 18:43Speaker 4: I think Acus is in that category.
- 18:45Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure, I think he'll get I mean, I
- 18:47Speaker 5: just I think with him, you're, as they say a
- 18:50Speaker 5: bazillion times, drinking from the fire hose, and it's even
- 18:53Speaker 5: more pressure coming out of that fire hose for a
- 18:56Speaker 5: you know, a kid who really missed OTAs and showed
- 18:58Speaker 5: up late into training camp.
- 18:59Speaker 2: And all that.
- 19:00Speaker 5: So it's been up and down. It's been inconsistent. I'd
- 19:03Speaker 5: like to see a little bit more. I'd like to
- 19:04Speaker 5: see some flash in the pass rush, see some of
- 19:06Speaker 5: that power that he had in college translate into the
- 19:09Speaker 5: NFL game. It hasn't really call click for him yet,
- 19:12Speaker 5: but I'm not panicking yet. I just would love to
- 19:15Speaker 5: get some contributions from him this year. And you know,
- 19:17Speaker 5: right now, it seems like they're doing everything they can
- 19:20Speaker 5: to try to get him ready, to get him ready
- 19:22Speaker 5: to contribute. And I'm sure these next three days he's
- 19:24Speaker 5: going to have a large part and both joints and
- 19:27Speaker 5: into the game.
- 19:27Speaker 2: I think he.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Benefits for having a head coach like Mike Rabel, who
- 19:31Speaker 3: kind of he wasn't as high a draft pick as Akus,
- 19:34Speaker 3: but similar position, you know, kind of the outside there.
- 19:38Speaker 2: He was his second round pick. Oh, he was sorry
- 19:41Speaker 2: about that. Yeah, and so on.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I'm sure, bro, And didn't you know, didn't start right away,
- 19:46Speaker 3: was sort of a sub over at Pittsburgh and didn't
- 19:50Speaker 3: really blossom until he got to the Patriots. So he
- 19:53Speaker 3: can kind of relate a little bit to Akis and
- 19:55Speaker 3: share some of that.
- 19:56Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm I guess maybe I'm a little higher on
- 19:59Speaker 6: acuses summer than other people. I don't really care too
- 20:03Speaker 6: much about the mental mistakes right now. There he is,
- 20:05Speaker 6: you know that those those will come in time. You know,
- 20:08Speaker 6: he is a rookie. He did have a you know,
- 20:11Speaker 6: a contract dispute or whatever it was that kept him
- 20:13Speaker 6: off the field for the entire spring and in a
- 20:16Speaker 6: little bit of the summer. What I like is that
- 20:19Speaker 6: the the traits, the physical traits clearly are translating to
- 20:23Speaker 6: this level. The power, uh, you know, the ability to
- 20:25Speaker 6: set the edge of the defense. Uh, the ability to
- 20:28Speaker 6: you know, slip blocks and beat blocks on the line
- 20:31Speaker 6: of scrimmage, the physicality that he plays with.
- 20:35Speaker 1: So like we can sit here and.
- 20:37Speaker 6: Talk about how the fact that he didn't like readout
- 20:39Speaker 6: a readoption and like how we over pursued a screen
- 20:42Speaker 6: and all that kind of stuff like that. That's rookie
- 20:45Speaker 6: mistakes like those are those are young player mistakes. Now,
- 20:48Speaker 6: eventually that light needs to come on and he needs to,
- 20:51Speaker 6: you know, figure it out at this level. But I
- 20:53Speaker 6: would be much more concerned if I watched him play
- 20:56Speaker 6: and said, there's just no juice there, like this guy
- 20:59Speaker 6: doesn't he does and have the skill set he doesn't have,
- 21:01Speaker 6: you know, the physical traits that you look for.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think he's got all of that.
- 21:05Speaker 6: I just think mentally right now, he's got to figure
- 21:07Speaker 6: out this level of football in the NFL game.
- 21:10Speaker 4: No, I think that's a great way to put it.
- 21:12Speaker 4: You know. I'm not down on him like some people are.
- 21:15Speaker 3: I'm only kidding, but he certainly for me from that
- 21:20Speaker 3: first day that I really saw him, it was the
- 21:22Speaker 3: indoor practice in the bubble that day.
- 21:26Speaker 4: The speed was evident, the speed was evident, and then.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I just don't see it. I don't see it.
- 21:31Speaker 7: I see a power guy who's trying to figure out
- 21:34Speaker 7: how his power translates to the NFL. I'm not giving
- 21:36Speaker 7: up speed. No, I think he's more of an early
- 21:40Speaker 7: down player right now.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't see speed either, I see twitch like
- 21:43Speaker 6: he's got like ability quickness and lateral quickness to you know,
- 21:47Speaker 6: slither back there. Yeah, when I see that, I mean,
- 21:51Speaker 6: I don't think he's quick off the edge speed off
- 21:53Speaker 6: the ball, don't.
- 21:54Speaker 7: I don't see it, all right, I saw it. He
- 21:57Speaker 7: certainly wasn't in college.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I saw it in that day he was.
- 22:01Speaker 3: He looked faster than the guys that were doing the
- 22:04Speaker 3: same drill that he was doing.
- 22:06Speaker 7: I think he's I think, like a firecracker up his butt. Okay,
- 22:10Speaker 7: what everybody else is dragging through camp? Maybe, babe, I
- 22:13Speaker 7: don't and I didn't see what you saw anyway.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Maybe that was it.
- 22:17Speaker 7: But I I mean, you've been really down on Drake
- 22:18Speaker 7: May and we have so.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Now we're just gonna be But but why is.
- 22:24Speaker 7: That ridiculous if you've not been down on Drake May
- 22:27Speaker 7: this summer?
- 22:27Speaker 3: I said one thing about him, I said, I would
- 22:30Speaker 3: love to see the ball come out of his hand
- 22:32Speaker 3: just the second earliest.
- 22:33Speaker 2: But you've been disappointed.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Does that mean I'm down on him?
- 22:35Speaker 7: Yes, Okay, this summer you've been down on it. Okay,
- 22:38Speaker 7: you can own it. It's okay.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I just said that.
- 22:41Speaker 4: On Monday was the best Monday.
- 22:43Speaker 2: It was a good practices set.
- 22:44Speaker 1: We got him on our side.
- 22:46Speaker 7: I thought he played pretty well in the joint practice
- 22:47Speaker 7: against Indianapolis.
- 22:48Speaker 2: You argued with.
- 22:49Speaker 7: Evan for ten minutes and said he didn't.
- 22:51Speaker 6: Yeah, as I was listening off all of the bombs
- 22:53Speaker 6: that he threw against the Cults. But Paul, you you
- 22:57Speaker 6: see Acus's I agree with you, he's not. He's not
- 23:00Speaker 6: speed rusher. That's not how he's going to win in
- 23:02Speaker 6: the league. But you mistake that he can't play. You
- 23:05Speaker 6: see the skill set that could not you could. Did
- 23:07Speaker 6: you see the skill set that could translate though the power?
- 23:10Speaker 4: Power?
- 23:11Speaker 7: Yeah, and I see some power. There are some plays
- 23:14Speaker 7: where I see him get Will Campbell on his on
- 23:18Speaker 7: his on his heels. I absolutely can see that. I
- 23:22Speaker 7: don't I mean watching his take. I'm no expert on
- 23:25Speaker 7: Illinois football.
- 23:25Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 23:26Speaker 7: What I watched on tape. I did not see a
- 23:28Speaker 7: speed rusher. I saw a power rusher. And that concerns
- 23:31Speaker 7: me a little bit, just a little bit, in that
- 23:34Speaker 7: sometimes a power guy in college can't get by that
- 23:37Speaker 7: way in the pros.
- 23:38Speaker 2: That was watching a little bit.
- 23:39Speaker 6: That was always the concern with him coming out was
- 23:41Speaker 6: that he was not a speed guy off the edge
- 23:45Speaker 6: that could really turn a corner and get to the corner.
- 23:47Speaker 2: But I liked him.
- 23:48Speaker 7: I liked what I saw, and you know, he didn't.
- 23:51Speaker 7: I don't watch anywhere near as much tape as Mike
- 23:53Speaker 7: and Evan do. He's one guy that might asked me
- 23:56Speaker 7: to watch specifically, and I was impressed.
- 23:59Speaker 2: We talked about it.
- 24:00Speaker 7: I think we did one of our draft preview casts
- 24:02Speaker 7: about and we talked about him specifically. So we were
- 24:05Speaker 7: we were in on him before they drafted him, you know,
- 24:07Speaker 7: the three of us.
- 24:08Speaker 2: So I am not down on the pick. I'm not
- 24:10Speaker 2: down on the player, but.
- 24:12Speaker 7: I do think it's been a little bit of a
- 24:15Speaker 7: but I just try to bring what I see. I
- 24:18Speaker 7: know it like a blazer off the edge. That's not
- 24:21Speaker 7: how he's gonna win.
- 24:22Speaker 3: And so do I and and I'm going to give
- 24:23Speaker 3: you a legal seafood fresh take right now.
- 24:26Speaker 4: I know.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Yeah, by the end of the season, we're going to see, Wow,
- 24:31Speaker 3: I didn't think he was that fast.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Okay, all right, I don't know what that can we
- 24:36Speaker 2: go with?
- 24:36Speaker 7: Like explosive, that's what That's what I'm talking about, Like
- 24:41Speaker 7: he's not blowing by a tackle on the edge like
- 24:43Speaker 7: to make a living.
- 24:44Speaker 2: No, but I got de Marcus ware.
- 24:46Speaker 6: But I think that he does have the power in
- 24:48Speaker 6: the foundation of a skill set to be able to
- 24:50Speaker 6: I would agree to hang in the in this league.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I think that that's.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Got of taped up fingers. What he's got.
- 24:55Speaker 6: It's got a super underrated aspect of edge play. The
- 25:00Speaker 6: league is power, like I think everybody loves and I
- 25:03Speaker 6: do the same thing, especially when you're watching guys in
- 25:05Speaker 6: the draft the spin moves and the finesse and the
- 25:08Speaker 6: speed rushes around the edge and all these different things.
- 25:11Speaker 6: Then you get to this level and it's like if
- 25:12Speaker 6: you don't have power, then you're not gonna make it.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Like if you're just a finesse guy in the NFL,
- 25:17Speaker 6: it's not enough. And you know, you look at the
- 25:20Speaker 6: analytics of it all too like most of the time
- 25:24Speaker 6: players are winning with power at the NFL level, they're
- 25:27Speaker 6: not winning with with speed or finesse. So if he
- 25:29Speaker 6: can keep kind of getting the mental aspects of the
- 25:33Speaker 6: game down and maybe like harness that a little bit,
- 25:36Speaker 6: you know, I was more like he got beat two
- 25:39Speaker 6: screens to his side of the field in the preseason
- 25:41Speaker 6: game that went for chunk plays that he just was
- 25:45Speaker 6: full bore up the field and had no idea that
- 25:47Speaker 6: the guy was sneaking out behind him and throwing a
- 25:49Speaker 6: screen behind him.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Those are mental mistakes, right like those are the.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Types of things that they need to get him to
- 25:53Speaker 6: process a little bit quicker.
- 25:54Speaker 7: Oh So I would also add when you said Fred,
- 25:57Speaker 7: the part about you know what happened in the preseason game, maybe,
- 26:00Speaker 7: I mean, I think the rookie draft class is in
- 26:02Speaker 7: a different boat. The rookie draft picks are going to
- 26:05Speaker 7: play in both the joint practices and in the games
- 26:08Speaker 7: they have to they haven't played yet.
- 26:10Speaker 2: So you saw a lot of gay bactis.
- 26:12Speaker 7: Eli rere it in Caleb Lomu against the Colts in
- 26:16Speaker 7: the joint practice on the Tuesday and then again in
- 26:18Speaker 7: the game on Thursday. I think you're going to see
- 26:20Speaker 7: those draft kroon prunty. These guys got to play, and
- 26:24Speaker 7: they got to play in.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Both well, and you got to see them against real competition.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yeah, Raredan, we haven't talked about him. I thought he's
- 26:32Speaker 3: he's looked pretty good. I mean, I know the knock
- 26:34Speaker 3: against him is what's he going to do when he
- 26:37Speaker 3: has to block as a tight end, but in terms
- 26:40Speaker 3: of being a pass catching tight end, he's done pretty well.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Now that went, I'm with you, Yeah, I mean, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 5: it's just the first thing i'd say is in the spring,
- 26:47Speaker 5: after Guift Fresh, after Julian Hill got hurt, it seemed
- 26:50Speaker 5: like they were going to go sign a veter I
- 26:51Speaker 5: mean that was I think Mike Vrabel has asked about
- 26:53Speaker 5: it and they haven't. So, you know, Eli Reredan has
- 26:56Speaker 5: shown up consistently. He's you know, you've seen him grow
- 26:59Speaker 5: a little bit. You've seen get more reps with Drake
- 27:02Speaker 5: and you know he's playing a little bit with Hunter
- 27:03Speaker 5: Henry as well.
- 27:04Speaker 2: So I just think the more they can get him experience.
- 27:06Speaker 5: It's a big athletic guy. I'm excited to see what
- 27:09Speaker 5: he does in the red zone. I think that's a
- 27:10Speaker 5: spot talking about have like rookies giving them roles, Right,
- 27:14Speaker 5: Let's get him inside the red zone and have him,
- 27:16Speaker 5: you know, using his size in his athleticism to give
- 27:19Speaker 5: Drake another outlet down there.
- 27:20Speaker 6: Yeah, is there a package of plays twenty five thirty
- 27:23Speaker 6: plays a game that makes sense for him to showcase
- 27:26Speaker 6: his skill set, which I think is different from Hunter
- 27:29Speaker 6: Henry's and that Rareden definitely has more straight line speed
- 27:32Speaker 6: at this stage than Hunter Henry does.
- 27:34Speaker 1: So can you get him up the seams?
- 27:36Speaker 6: Can you get him on crossing routes coming across the
- 27:38Speaker 6: field if they're going to run a lot of boots,
- 27:40Speaker 6: which I think they are, and move the pocket. Can
- 27:42Speaker 6: you get him coming across the field with may going
- 27:44Speaker 6: in the other direction and hit him with some you
- 27:46Speaker 6: know stride to you know, some build up speed like
- 27:49Speaker 6: we saw in the preseason game. Got called back, but
- 27:51Speaker 6: it was a twenty four yard completion, just a little
- 27:54Speaker 6: dump off into the flat on a crossing route that
- 27:56Speaker 6: went for twenty four yards. I actually thought that I
- 27:59Speaker 6: was encouraged by the blocking tape from the preseason game.
- 28:03Speaker 6: I thought it was better than I expected. Some big
- 28:06Speaker 6: boy assignments like blocking defensive ends and you know guys
- 28:09Speaker 6: that are two fifty two fifty five on the edge,
- 28:12Speaker 6: and he at least held his own in there. I mean,
- 28:14Speaker 6: I wouldn't say it was it wasn't dominant or anything,
- 28:17Speaker 6: but he held his own and you know, got out
- 28:19Speaker 6: in some space and made some blocks on the move too.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So it's been an encouraging start for him.
- 28:24Speaker 6: I mean, you look at him though, and like he's
- 28:25Speaker 6: gonna have to add some meat to the bones, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 6: if he's going to be a real in line blocker
- 28:31Speaker 6: at this level. But what I like about him in
- 28:34Speaker 6: terms of twenty twenty six is that he's going to
- 28:37Speaker 6: have a speed up the field that I don't think
- 28:39Speaker 6: at thirty one years old, Hunter Henry is bringing to
- 28:41Speaker 6: the table.
- 28:42Speaker 2: So let me ask you a question.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Paul mentioned you know the draft picks, you know played,
- 28:48Speaker 3: and will you know you need to see him in
- 28:50Speaker 3: both the preseason and in this one. If a guy
- 28:53Speaker 3: like Raredan kills it the next two days, I mean,
- 28:54Speaker 3: he just has a great couple of days. Do you
- 28:57Speaker 3: throttle him down, oh for the preseas the game or
- 29:00Speaker 3: do you still put him out there.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I think they're gonna need him.
- 29:03Speaker 5: I I you know, I don't know what what what
- 29:06Speaker 5: he would have to do in these two practices to
- 29:07Speaker 5: be like, all right, he's good. I think he's got
- 29:10Speaker 5: a ton to work on, and I think any kind
- 29:12Speaker 5: of reps that he can get against another opponent, you
- 29:15Speaker 5: gotta you gotta force feed him right at this.
- 29:17Speaker 6: Point, especially the blocking assignments, because let's face it, if
- 29:21Speaker 6: he blows a block in the preseason game, the score
- 29:24Speaker 6: doesn't matter anyway. You don't want to see him blowing
- 29:26Speaker 6: blox in the regular season. So getting the the reps
- 29:29Speaker 6: you know in the preseason games, the live reps in
- 29:31Speaker 6: the blocking game, run game, I think is important for him.
- 29:35Speaker 6: I think that will help him in the long run.
- 29:37Speaker 7: I just want to see him continuing to get some
- 29:40Speaker 7: some opportunities with Drake May in the first unit, and
- 29:43Speaker 7: I think we've seen more of that the last week,
- 29:45Speaker 7: and I think he can benefit from that.
- 29:47Speaker 2: And uh, you know some of this.
- 29:49Speaker 7: Do you remember a couple of times Austin Hooper sort
- 29:53Speaker 7: of behind the play, those like tight end drags like
- 29:55Speaker 7: you know, like everyone was talking about, like the reverse
- 29:58Speaker 7: boot and all of a sudden you throw it back.
- 30:00Speaker 7: I think you can get Evans. Yeah, yeah, I was
- 30:03Speaker 7: setting you up. I think you can get Evans's place.
- 30:05Speaker 7: I think he might be a guy that you get
- 30:08Speaker 7: him in space and he might be able to.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Make a big chunk play.
- 30:10Speaker 7: That's what he did at Notre Dame, sorry, at xplace.
- 30:14Speaker 6: That's what he did at Notre Dame. You know, he
- 30:15Speaker 6: averaged over sixteen yards of catch at Notre Dame. He
- 30:18Speaker 6: had eight twenty plus yard plays last year, most in
- 30:21Speaker 6: the in the draft class at that position. So he's
- 30:24Speaker 6: a guy that can get chunks. But that's also not overrated.
- 30:29Speaker 6: And think that he's going to play a ton you know,
- 30:30Speaker 6: I think he's a forty five snap right, would be
- 30:34Speaker 6: a good rookie season for him.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Big crowd here for the joint practice.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Is there's a lot of people inside the stadium too.
- 30:40Speaker 4: They were lined up early.
- 30:41Speaker 3: The bleachers are full, the hill behind the field is full.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Uh.
- 30:46Speaker 3: They've been directing people into the bowl to watch practice
- 30:50Speaker 3: on the big screens inside because there's that many people.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Wow, that's kind of new, right, Usually they just sent
- 30:55Speaker 5: off the ramps, but now we're going into the stadium.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Well, I think it's it's probably better. At least it's
- 30:59Speaker 3: more comfortable.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Big video board, you can see everything.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Don't be recording the screen.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Well, you know, people do what they have to do.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Everyone's got a camera in their hand now. Uh. Podcast
- 31:12Speaker 3: at Patriots dot com is the email address. Brendan writes
- 31:15Speaker 3: in thanks for covering the practice. I understand Akis is
- 31:17Speaker 3: going to get caught up, but I'm really excited to
- 31:20Speaker 3: watch him play. Do you think we could see him
- 31:21Speaker 3: in early downs at some point this year, or do
- 31:24Speaker 3: you see him being a situational guy.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I like their lack of depth.
- 31:28Speaker 3: In Landry's injury, he might have to play a lot early.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah, But I I think you is his situation, right, Yeah, right.
- 31:38Speaker 6: I've been consistently saying that I think him and Ponder
- 31:42Speaker 6: are going to play. Both play in their situations. Ponder
- 31:46Speaker 6: is going to play in passing situations and Akas is
- 31:48Speaker 6: going to play and run situations and together. They did
- 31:51Speaker 6: the same thing last year with Anthony Jennings and Ponder,
- 31:53Speaker 6: you know, in the playoffs, Like together, you kind of
- 31:56Speaker 6: form them together and they become a three down player
- 31:59Speaker 6: up for you on defense. You know, I defensively, it's
- 32:01Speaker 6: not the same, Like there's no tails, like if it's
- 32:04Speaker 6: third and long, like it's a passing situation. You know,
- 32:06Speaker 6: it's not like you're given anything away by platooning those guys.
- 32:09Speaker 6: So I think that that's that's where we're headed with
- 32:12Speaker 6: those two.
- 32:13Speaker 5: I mean, to be honest, I'll be a little disappointed
- 32:15Speaker 5: if that's how it is with Ponder, Like I have
- 32:18Speaker 5: three down hopes for him, and I think.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Last year that's what he was.
- 32:21Speaker 5: He was kind of that third change up rusher to
- 32:24Speaker 5: to to spell, uh the other top two guys.
- 32:27Speaker 2: But I'd love to.
- 32:28Speaker 5: I mean, I think the best thing for this team
- 32:30Speaker 5: would be that Ponders a three down player and that
- 32:32Speaker 5: they can work around him. Uh, you know, maybe a
- 32:35Speaker 5: guy like even Ke Hutchins or Brayden Swinson. Maybe they
- 32:39Speaker 5: get some of those just past pure pass rush reps.
- 32:42Speaker 5: But I think in a perfect world for this team
- 32:45Speaker 5: to really send Akis doesn't play.
- 32:48Speaker 1: And a perfect world Actus is that player.
- 32:50Speaker 5: Well, I think a rotation, but rotationally. But I just
- 32:53Speaker 5: if because Jraymond Jones is going to play. Yeah, he's
- 32:56Speaker 5: gonna be on one edge. Yeah, And I'd love to
- 32:59Speaker 5: if Ponders it's guy. I don't think you to see
- 33:01Speaker 5: much of Acus. I would rather see Akus be the
- 33:03Speaker 5: three down guy.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I mean second round at the end of the day.
- 33:07Speaker 6: Yeah, Like at the end of the day, it's if
- 33:09Speaker 6: one of those guys blossoms into a great player, it
- 33:12Speaker 6: doesn't really matter. I do have it like if Acus,
- 33:15Speaker 6: you want to see Accus like be a dude, Like
- 33:18Speaker 6: they drafted him fifty fifth overall in a deep edge
- 33:21Speaker 6: class where everybody was talking up the edge class all
- 33:23Speaker 6: off season long. If they drafted a guy in the
- 33:26Speaker 6: second round that's like a really good player, then that
- 33:28Speaker 6: that's their ceiling just goes up.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Yep.
- 33:31Speaker 6: You know, I no disrespect to Ponder, but he, you know,
- 33:33Speaker 6: is a guy that came in the league as an
- 33:35Speaker 6: undrafted rookie. But if either one of those guys pan
- 33:38Speaker 6: out and is that guy, then it doesn't matter which
- 33:40Speaker 6: one it is.
- 33:41Speaker 1: It's just one of those guys.
- 33:42Speaker 5: I would just be surprised to see gay Bacis playing
- 33:45Speaker 5: rundowns right.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Out of the gate in Seattle.
- 33:48Speaker 7: I think it might not be week one, it might
- 33:51Speaker 7: not be immediate, but I don't want Ponder out there
- 33:54Speaker 7: first downs. I don't like him. I don't like him
- 33:58Speaker 7: against the run. I don't like what I've seen for him.
- 34:01Speaker 7: You know now, Draymond Jones, I think he's come as advertised.
- 34:04Speaker 2: I think he's a physical edge kind of guy.
- 34:06Speaker 7: The thing that Evan was talking about the power that
- 34:08Speaker 7: you can see that now he's got not a big
- 34:12Speaker 7: repertoire of past rush moves.
- 34:13Speaker 2: I think Will Campbell would tell you that.
- 34:15Speaker 7: I think Will Campbell's like you know, the ball knowers
- 34:19Speaker 7: telling me, Will Campbell's like twelve and two, and there
- 34:21Speaker 7: is one on ones and like ten of those wins
- 34:23Speaker 7: have to be against Draymont Jones.
- 34:24Speaker 2: He just completely h.
- 34:27Speaker 3: You talk about Will Campbell, Josh writes in everything I've
- 34:31Speaker 3: seen is he's starting a left tackle, and I have
- 34:35Speaker 3: not heard much about how he has looked this camp,
- 34:38Speaker 3: good or bad, which is probably a good sign. Wanted
- 34:42Speaker 3: to see if you could say how he's holding up
- 34:44Speaker 3: this camp and if he looks.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Past his late season woes.
- 34:49Speaker 6: I would say that we've written and talked about Will
- 34:52Speaker 6: Campbell a ton, but I just I'm not going to
- 34:55Speaker 6: convince people that Will Campbell is having a year or
- 34:58Speaker 6: two leap until they see it regular season games with
- 35:01Speaker 6: their own eyes. And I get that because I've.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Been down this road.
- 35:04Speaker 6: He's having a great camp and everybody is like, well,
- 35:07Speaker 6: we'll see you know, so like, I'm not going to
- 35:09Speaker 6: try to convince you that it's real. But he looks healthier,
- 35:12Speaker 6: he looks stronger than me, he looks more diverse, Like
- 35:15Speaker 6: I think he's got more tricks up his sleeve this
- 35:17Speaker 6: year than he did last year. And we'll see come
- 35:20Speaker 6: Week one in Seattle if it all translates to the
- 35:22Speaker 6: regular season but so far, I think he's had a
- 35:25Speaker 6: terrific camp, and I think that he's been far and
- 35:28Speaker 6: away their best tackle.
- 35:29Speaker 5: And there's no question that's lineman. That he's the lineman
- 35:31Speaker 5: I feel best about right now. And I mean that
- 35:33Speaker 5: could change, but just as far as camp has gone
- 35:35Speaker 5: so far, I've been really impressed with how steady he's been.
- 35:39Speaker 5: Now we'll see today, we'll see in Seattle. You know,
- 35:42Speaker 5: how he holds up. These matchups all of a sudden
- 35:44Speaker 5: get really interesting, really quick.
- 35:46Speaker 2: And it of.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Course feeds into what we were just talking about with
- 35:49Speaker 5: the edge guys, where you don't really know that you
- 35:52Speaker 5: have a fully rounded edge guy right now. It feels
- 35:55Speaker 5: piecemeal and you're gonna have to put it together and
- 35:57Speaker 5: they're gonna have to stunt to get to the quarterback,
- 36:00Speaker 5: gonna have to send blitzes, you know. So that's It's
- 36:02Speaker 5: just that I've had biggest questions in the off season.
- 36:05Speaker 5: We're about the edge, and it continues right now as
- 36:07Speaker 5: we talk about it.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree, Mike Darius wants to know, uh
- 36:12Speaker 3: And I saw it too, someone giving out T shirts
- 36:15Speaker 3: to the stands and he said it looked like a
- 36:17Speaker 3: forged in Foxboro T shirt. I'm not sure if it
- 36:20Speaker 3: was Forge of Foxboro or Forever New England. I did
- 36:24Speaker 3: see the f O, so that made me think, oh,
- 36:26Speaker 3: maybe that's a floor.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I'm sorry, what f O? Get the f O?
- 36:31Speaker 3: But I don't think the Forge and Foxboro were black
- 36:34Speaker 3: with white lettering.
- 36:35Speaker 2: No, those were nice quality T shirt.
- 36:37Speaker 4: But we do need to get more Forged and Foxboro
- 36:39Speaker 4: T shirts.
- 36:40Speaker 5: I know, well, you know, I would have loved to
- 36:42Speaker 5: a made a trip around the stands today. There are
- 36:43Speaker 5: a lot of PU fans that are hit me up
- 36:45Speaker 5: down there.
- 36:45Speaker 4: You were, you were very weren't asked to warm up?
- 36:49Speaker 3: Well?
- 36:49Speaker 2: I was asked for my responsibilities here. You know we're
- 36:52Speaker 2: gonna you know, we're talking live.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Oh you were.
- 36:54Speaker 2: But the timing of it all, it just didn't quite
- 36:57Speaker 2: work out.
- 36:57Speaker 5: So maybe tomorrow, if the crowd is a little bit,
- 37:00Speaker 5: you know, not quite pumped up enough, maybe I'll have.
- 37:02Speaker 3: To go to put a camera on you and gone,
- 37:04Speaker 3: let's go down to Mike. Mike do So, who's who's
- 37:07Speaker 3: warming up the crowd?
- 37:09Speaker 2: Right right there?
- 37:11Speaker 1: Is?
- 37:12Speaker 2: What's that? One says?
- 37:13Speaker 1: Electric?
- 37:15Speaker 6: I have to I have to admit whenever they call it,
- 37:18Speaker 6: call us out to do our little bit, and they
- 37:20Speaker 6: say it's Evan Lazar, Mike do so Patriots dot Com.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I do feel Yeah.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Why.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Where's Mike Mike Grees out there? These guys?
- 37:33Speaker 3: Matthew wants to know, is there a chance we have
- 37:36Speaker 3: a top five offensive.
- 37:37Speaker 4: Line if all the current starters stay healthy?
- 37:41Speaker 2: Is there a chance they will?
- 37:43Speaker 6: Will Campbell and Jared Wilson would have to really really
- 37:46Speaker 6: improve to be top five. I mean, now we're talking
- 37:48Speaker 6: about them being up there with this team, the Eagles.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Depends voting of the guy.
- 37:55Speaker 7: You tell me the name of the guy who's putting
- 37:56Speaker 7: it on his website, and I'll tell if there's a chance.
- 37:58Speaker 7: I'm Sully to tell me the name of the guy
- 38:02Speaker 7: who's doing it for PFF top. I'll tell you if
- 38:04Speaker 7: there's a chance they can be in the top five.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Top five would be a pretty big jump.
- 38:07Speaker 7: I'll look up the bio, see where he's from, and
- 38:09Speaker 7: I'll tell you if there's a chance.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Where were they last year, like middle of the pack,
- 38:13Speaker 6: which was obviously like a huge improvement from the year before.
- 38:16Speaker 6: But I mean to go from like even if we
- 38:19Speaker 6: give them league average sixteenth best offensive line in football
- 38:21Speaker 6: to the top five would be a pretty considerable improvement
- 38:25Speaker 6: from what we saw last year. Like that's everybody across
- 38:28Speaker 6: the board got better, like Vera Tucker's a stud, Campbell's
- 38:31Speaker 6: a stud, Wilson's really good at center.
- 38:34Speaker 1: That'd be a lot.
- 38:34Speaker 3: I mean, no matter how you do your rankings when
- 38:38Speaker 3: offensive line, there has to be some subjectivity to it
- 38:41Speaker 3: because you know, if you have a quarterback who gets
- 38:44Speaker 3: the ball out of his hands really quickly and that's
- 38:46Speaker 3: their offense, well that helps your offensive line. That's gonna
- 38:50Speaker 3: up their grades because there's less pressure on them to
- 38:53Speaker 3: hold their blocks and so on. So there's so much
- 38:55Speaker 3: that goes into it. It's it's really hard to say
- 38:58Speaker 3: this line's better than enough less it's just obvious.
- 39:01Speaker 6: That's how you know, we have like things like win
- 39:03Speaker 6: rate now that track how them actually beating the block
- 39:08Speaker 6: not necessarily is it would it goes down as a pressure,
- 39:11Speaker 6: but did they actually get around the guy trying to
- 39:14Speaker 6: block them in front of them? And those things try
- 39:16Speaker 6: to get into the minutia of is the quarterback, you know,
- 39:20Speaker 6: sack prone not sack prone?
- 39:21Speaker 1: Does he get the ball out quickly? Does he not
- 39:23Speaker 1: get the ball out quickly?
- 39:24Speaker 6: So there's ways that they track that kind of stuff now,
- 39:28Speaker 6: but that's all you.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Know, eyeball tests.
- 39:30Speaker 6: So did you know each everybody might have a different
- 39:33Speaker 6: definition of he beat the block?
- 39:35Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, if it's uh, you know, like
- 39:39Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers, he's going to get the ball out of
- 39:41Speaker 3: his hands. If it's Vince Ferragamo, he might be taking
- 39:43Speaker 3: a seventh step drop and standing back there.
- 39:46Speaker 2: So talking about thirty touchdowns and that's a cousin.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Yeah, Aaron Rodgers is just afraid to get hit now,
- 39:53Speaker 6: so that's why he gets the ball out so quickly.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Justin writes.
- 39:57Speaker 3: In yesterday, Evan mentioned that teams are playing nickel two
- 40:00Speaker 3: high safeties and taking away the deep part of the field.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Two questions One, is running really the only way to
- 40:06Speaker 3: beat this coverage? If a team has three marquee receivers,
- 40:09Speaker 3: would that force a team like Seattle to take em
- 40:13Speaker 3: and worry off the field.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Not not necessarily.
- 40:17Speaker 6: But I think the bigger problem is that teams have
- 40:21Speaker 6: really gotten really good at at pressuring quarterbacks and finding
- 40:24Speaker 6: different ways, you know, to blitz quarterbacks or to scheme
- 40:28Speaker 6: up pressure with quarterbacks. That if you live in a
- 40:32Speaker 6: drop back world, as a team like the Patriots did
- 40:35Speaker 6: in the Super Bowl. When you're just drop back, drop back,
- 40:38Speaker 6: drop back, like, these defenses have gotten really exotic and
- 40:41Speaker 6: really creative of how to get to the quarterback, and it's.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Just a lot. It's a tough way to live. So
- 40:46Speaker 1: it's a tough way.
- 40:47Speaker 3: So because of this trend, would you say the value
- 40:49Speaker 3: of the running backs is going up because it's it's
- 40:53Speaker 3: decreased over the last ten Yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 6: Maybe I don't know if it's necessarily about the running
- 40:57Speaker 6: backs individually, but sure, I think you can make that argument.
- 41:00Speaker 6: But I think in general, it's just you can't get
- 41:04Speaker 6: into third and long against these defensive guys anymore. Like
- 41:07Speaker 6: if you're going up against the Mike McDonald in the
- 41:09Speaker 6: playoff game or Super Bowl and you're in third and eight,
- 41:12Speaker 6: third and nine, third and ten all the time, he
- 41:15Speaker 6: is going to make you pay. And that's exactly what
- 41:18Speaker 6: we saw in the Super Bowl. You don't every coach
- 41:22Speaker 6: is talking about like you don't want to be just
- 41:24Speaker 6: dropping back, like you want to be able to play
- 41:27Speaker 6: early down offense, to run the football script, play actions
- 41:30Speaker 6: off of the running game, move the pocket, like, do
- 41:33Speaker 6: all these different things that kind of put to bed
- 41:35Speaker 6: all those third down pressures.
- 41:37Speaker 3: As you can see, the both teams are warming up
- 41:39Speaker 3: right now. The Patriots will be in their blues today, yeah,
- 41:42Speaker 3: and I'm assuming the Eagles will be in white. I
- 41:46Speaker 3: can't see so, but there in anything but that, it'll
- 41:49Speaker 3: be tough for the color blind.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Just to jump off of what Evan said too.
- 41:52Speaker 5: I mean, Vic Fangio is here today and he's you know,
- 41:54Speaker 5: one of the godfathers of this kind of NFL evolution
- 41:57Speaker 5: with you know, showing two high looks. Everything comes out
- 42:00Speaker 5: of too high and then it rotates into something different
- 42:03Speaker 5: post snap, and that's you know, that feeds into Drake
- 42:05Speaker 5: here in the second year, recognizing those rotations and those
- 42:08Speaker 5: kind of things. So, you know, I think part of
- 42:10Speaker 5: the answer to Fred is can you beat these looks? Like, Yeah,
- 42:12Speaker 5: if you drop it in the if you drop it
- 42:14Speaker 5: in the cover tool, you know, and you're able to
- 42:16Speaker 5: have that kind of accuracy downfield, you're able to do it.
- 42:18Speaker 5: But it's not easy, and that's you know, one of
- 42:21Speaker 5: the biggest challenges and probably why today you know, Patriots
- 42:24Speaker 5: being able to run the ball a little bit would
- 42:26Speaker 5: really help things out.
- 42:27Speaker 6: Yeah, Fangio, you know, they play too high a lot
- 42:30Speaker 6: they have such a great defensive line that they don't
- 42:32Speaker 6: blitz as much as some of the other too high
- 42:34Speaker 6: systems do. So they, like Fangio started the sort of
- 42:37Speaker 6: the too high tricks, quarters palms, things like that. And
- 42:41Speaker 6: then guys like Mike McDonald, Jesse Minter, they took dad
- 42:44Speaker 6: and said, well, we don't have Jordan Davis and Jalen
- 42:46Speaker 6: Carter and you know, all these dudes up front, so
- 42:49Speaker 6: we're gonna start putting in blitzes behind you know, these coverages.
- 42:53Speaker 6: And that just took it on its own there. So
- 42:57Speaker 6: Fangio deserves a lot of credit, and a lot of
- 42:59Speaker 6: the start kind of started because of like the McVay
- 43:02Speaker 6: Shanahan tree. So like when half the league is running
- 43:05Speaker 6: a wide zone system, and this was sort of the
- 43:08Speaker 6: counter to the wide zone system. And and now a
- 43:11Speaker 6: lot of defenses run this because so many offenses are
- 43:14Speaker 6: running the West Coast stuff.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Uh So, while we watch them stretch and warm up here,
- 43:19Speaker 3: yesterday's show on Patriots and Filtered ended with a heated
- 43:23Speaker 3: debate about uniforms. And I know a lot of you
- 43:26Speaker 3: gentlemen are very very I am very passionate.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 43:29Speaker 1: It's just it's just the pants man, What would you say?
- 43:32Speaker 3: And I've been thinking about this as I watched training camp.
- 43:34Speaker 3: A very alternate uniform, a very basic blue almost like
- 43:38Speaker 3: what we're wearing right now as a uniform, just basic
- 43:42Speaker 3: blue top.
- 43:42Speaker 5: It's as fine as long as the old school, as
- 43:45Speaker 5: long as the carpet matches the drapes on the uniform.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I'm then, I'm that's not what that means, right, The lowers.
- 43:53Speaker 5: Have to match the uppers with the striping and uh,
- 43:55Speaker 5: you know, but but I don't.
- 43:56Speaker 2: I don't hate it.
- 43:57Speaker 5: I just I'd love to see the uniforms they won
- 43:59Speaker 5: the Super Bowl come back. And I just would the
- 44:02Speaker 5: closets that all these NFL teams have now with the
- 44:05Speaker 5: every uniform they've ever worn. Like, I just everything should
- 44:09Speaker 5: be on the table. If you've worn the uniform in
- 44:11Speaker 5: an NFL game in your team history, you can wear
- 44:14Speaker 5: it again.
- 44:14Speaker 2: I'd love to see that come back and something special
- 44:17Speaker 2: for the fans. You show up. What are they wearing?
- 44:18Speaker 2: You don't know?
- 44:19Speaker 3: Yeah, thing is that Nike has to produce them. Yeah,
- 44:22Speaker 3: so they need a little heads up.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a little less.
- 44:26Speaker 6: Like the Dynasty uniforms is a little less of a
- 44:29Speaker 6: thing for me, Like I understand what you say, but
- 44:32Speaker 6: I kind of like that it's a different Like that
- 44:35Speaker 6: was such an era, and like this is it is
- 44:37Speaker 6: a different era, and like we can't just keep on
- 44:39Speaker 6: talking about you know, well back in my day, you know,
- 44:42Speaker 6: Tom Brady won six Super Bowls?
- 44:43Speaker 1: Like how long are we going to do that?
- 44:45Speaker 7: Like do the Niners get around of crap for changing
- 44:47Speaker 7: their uniforms when they were wanted winning all those Super Bowls? Yes,
- 44:50Speaker 7: but I mean you were No, I don't know, I
- 44:55Speaker 7: don't don't. Yeah, but that was kindest question than a
- 44:57Speaker 7: ben a snark.
- 44:59Speaker 6: I would just like our current uniform to match the
- 45:03Speaker 6: current pants that they are wearing. I don't really care
- 45:07Speaker 6: which generation of jersey it is or anything like that,
- 45:11Speaker 6: but the fact that we're wearing the old pants with
- 45:14Speaker 6: the new blue jersey, it drives me crazy like that, like,
- 45:18Speaker 6: we can do better.
- 45:19Speaker 7: So I'm gonna let everybody behind the curtain as soon
- 45:22Speaker 7: as we finished yesterday. I just I'm being afraid, just
- 45:24Speaker 7: started laughing at Mike and Evan because we totally did
- 45:27Speaker 7: it on purpose.
- 45:28Speaker 2: We knew it was gonna true. Anytime. I'm ready to go,
- 45:32Speaker 2: I'm here.
- 45:33Speaker 7: Yes, I do understand what Evans lament is about the
- 45:37Speaker 7: fact that the stripes are not the same we do.
- 45:39Speaker 7: We do all see it, and we were just kind
- 45:41Speaker 7: of triggering everybody.
- 45:42Speaker 4: Now I can't unsee it right.
- 45:44Speaker 3: Good, neither can I. Now you welcome to my health
- 45:47Speaker 3: Curtis and Saint Louis. Two part question have you seen
- 45:49Speaker 3: anything this camp or off season to indicate Treveon Henderson
- 45:53Speaker 3: has improved in the past blocking game?
- 45:56Speaker 4: Second part? Your choice? What do you think or what
- 45:59Speaker 4: do you want the split to be between Remandre and.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Trevion fails like fantasy pilled.
- 46:04Speaker 5: Yes, I just I still think it leans Remondre sixty
- 46:08Speaker 5: forty maybe at least, But I just think Vermondre is
- 46:12Speaker 5: an all around back that can do it all. Paul
- 46:15Speaker 5: has pointed out his excellent past protection many times on
- 46:20Speaker 5: the post game show. You know, it's just there's nothing
- 46:23Speaker 5: that there's no situation that you can't have Vermondra Stevenson
- 46:26Speaker 5: in there for. And I still don't know about Treyon.
- 46:29Speaker 5: To answer the question, I don't. I haven't, you know,
- 46:31Speaker 5: I think that's a hard thing to pick up.
- 46:33Speaker 7: I haven't liked what I've seen as a past protector's
- 46:36Speaker 7: very small, very small sample size, but I haven't seen
- 46:40Speaker 7: a tremendous improvement.
- 46:41Speaker 2: You had a good pick up on Monday.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I just I.
- 46:45Speaker 6: Guess I see a lot about this, and it's usually
- 46:48Speaker 6: from the fantasy community about how Treyvon Henderson should be
- 46:51Speaker 6: playing more than Remondre. This that the other thing, there's
- 46:54Speaker 6: no doubt that he is a more dynamic, no no
- 46:56Speaker 6: question player in terms of speed. But if you objectively
- 47:00Speaker 6: you watch the last eight to ten games of the
- 47:03Speaker 6: Patriots season last year, and you watch more snaps and
- 47:06Speaker 6: you watch Travon Henderson's snaps, I don't know how you
- 47:09Speaker 6: come from to any different conclusion. Besides, Vermondre is the
- 47:11Speaker 6: better player right now, Like maybe Travon Henderson passes him eventually,
- 47:16Speaker 6: but just every all encompassing whether it's you know, running
- 47:20Speaker 6: the ball between the tackles, the passing game, whatever, it
- 47:24Speaker 6: just it was very, very stark that that Ramondre Stevenson
- 47:27Speaker 6: was a better player down the stretch last year than
- 47:29Speaker 6: Travon Henderson, which is why he played more and played
- 47:32Speaker 6: basically the entire playoffs as like a one man show
- 47:35Speaker 6: in the backfield. So I just kind of like, I
- 47:37Speaker 6: don't really understand where all of it is coming from.
- 47:39Speaker 2: And I don't really see it. Sorry, it's fantasy, Yeah
- 47:42Speaker 2: I don't.
- 47:43Speaker 5: I just I don't see a world in which Travon
- 47:45Speaker 5: Henderson surpasses Fromandra Stevenson.
- 47:47Speaker 2: I just he's a smaller back, he's fast.
- 47:49Speaker 5: I think he has a use, but it seems more
- 47:52Speaker 5: specific to what the situation is than you know, vermondre
- 47:56Speaker 5: It doesn't matter. Like if it's a third and long,
- 47:58Speaker 5: it's fine. If it's first, you know, third and short,
- 48:00Speaker 5: it's fine. Like you know, I just I like the
- 48:03Speaker 5: all around back that ramondri is. I like Trevion as
- 48:06Speaker 5: that pmplementary piece, but I'd even like to have a
- 48:09Speaker 5: third guy to kind of play with in the mix
- 48:11Speaker 5: a little bit, because I just think there's a real
- 48:12Speaker 5: disparity between.
- 48:13Speaker 7: What was the last time the Patriots had a running
- 48:16Speaker 7: back that could hit home runs like Henderson did last year.
- 48:20Speaker 6: I mean maybe like Deon Lewis probably have.
- 48:23Speaker 7: To go back that far. Yeah, yeah, So I love
- 48:27Speaker 7: what Henderson did as a rookie. I would love to
- 48:28Speaker 7: see him be able to duplicate it. I'm a little
- 48:31Speaker 7: skeptical that he would because I just think that it's
- 48:33Speaker 7: hard to get four fifty plus yard touchdown runs in
- 48:36Speaker 7: one season. I think that was abnormal, But I think
- 48:40Speaker 7: his skill set, he's he's dynamic. Yeah, so you know
- 48:44Speaker 7: if you can get the ball on his hands and
- 48:45Speaker 7: get him in space, absolutely.
- 48:47Speaker 6: I mean, but I just like, I have no problem
- 48:48Speaker 6: with him being that kind of guy.
- 48:50Speaker 1: I feel like there's just.
- 48:51Speaker 6: Like a push that he needs to be more fantasy
- 48:53Speaker 6: thing and and I get it, but you know, everybody
- 48:57Speaker 6: wants him to be Jamior Gibbs and maybe maybe eventually
- 49:01Speaker 6: he can be in that category. But there's nothing wrong
- 49:04Speaker 6: with Like, he's the big play hitter and Ramandre is
- 49:07Speaker 6: kind of the workhorse, and they trade off and they
- 49:09Speaker 6: get Henderson loose at once or twice a game, and
- 49:12Speaker 6: that's how the platoon works, Like I don't as a
- 49:15Speaker 6: football team, Like, I don't think there's any problem with that.
- 49:17Speaker 7: So I'm going to give you my pick for the
- 49:19Speaker 7: mic role that Mike want not the Mike linebacker. Mike
- 49:21Speaker 7: Dusau's role that he's really fixated on, sort of the
- 49:24Speaker 7: Greg rotent of running backs is Hassan Haskas.
- 49:29Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 49:30Speaker 7: He shot immediately into sort of the top of that
- 49:35Speaker 7: as Evan said, yesterday on PU like that that second group,
- 49:39Speaker 7: you know where Jim Miller is over here and Lana
- 49:41Speaker 7: Larrison's over here and the son Haskins is carrying the
- 49:44Speaker 7: ball with the second group. I think he has a
- 49:46Speaker 7: lot of special teams experience, covers kicks, returns kicks. I
- 49:50Speaker 7: would be surprised if he didn't get every opportunity to
- 49:53Speaker 7: make the team.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I had to.
- 49:54Speaker 6: I wanted to double check because I didn't want to
- 49:56Speaker 6: say he was drafted by Mike Rabel and Tennessee fourth
- 49:59Speaker 6: round too.
- 50:00Speaker 7: Yeah, not like an undrafted rood a fourth round pick
- 50:02Speaker 7: out of Michigan.
- 50:03Speaker 6: Yeah, and it was really good at Michigan for a
- 50:05Speaker 6: season there on one of their good teams. So they
- 50:08Speaker 6: have a familiarity with him, and we know how that
- 50:11Speaker 6: works with a lot of the variable guys, and they
- 50:14Speaker 6: really seem to like him. And he's you know, Paul,
- 50:15Speaker 6: you always say that the third running back, you just
- 50:17Speaker 6: want him to kind of get what's blocked and not
- 50:19Speaker 6: screw up and not fumble. And he's got the size
- 50:21Speaker 6: and the profile that that fits that kind of bill.
- 50:24Speaker 6: So I think right now, if I did a roster projection,
- 50:27Speaker 6: he'd I think he'd be.
- 50:28Speaker 2: On if I was doing on right now. Yeah, it's funny.
- 50:32Speaker 5: It's Paul As We talked about this stuff all the
- 50:33Speaker 5: time about like, you know, they have enough depth there,
- 50:35Speaker 5: and we'd say, well, they could always sign a veteran.
- 50:37Speaker 2: You know, You've got Haskins as an example. You've got
- 50:39Speaker 2: Van Roten as an example.
- 50:41Speaker 5: You've got day Kwon Jones and Jack Thompson come in,
- 50:43Speaker 5: like all guys who had they signed them in the offseason.
- 50:46Speaker 2: You'll be like, that's a good, good, solid signing, you know,
- 50:48Speaker 2: good NFL player. This guy will provide depth.
- 50:50Speaker 5: But it just shows that the team building process continues
- 50:52Speaker 5: into camp and even if you're a little bit concerned
- 50:55Speaker 5: about depth, there are some guys out there that you
- 50:57Speaker 5: can bring in the.
- 50:57Speaker 4: You know, Fred Kirsh really right, you can.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Always get guys.
- 51:03Speaker 7: He was, I'm sorry, that was the wisdom you imparted
- 51:07Speaker 7: on me early on.
- 51:08Speaker 1: He would always find guys earlier. So I think he's
- 51:12Speaker 1: trying to you know that.
- 51:15Speaker 2: But it is true.
- 51:18Speaker 3: How they start the summer is not how they end it,
- 51:20Speaker 3: you know, in terms of the full roster.
- 51:22Speaker 5: I think it's a real thing too though, with some
- 51:23Speaker 5: of the veterans being like yeah, man, I'm not doing
- 51:26Speaker 5: the first two weeks of camp. Like here, I'm all
- 51:28Speaker 5: set with you know, the non padded days and the
- 51:30Speaker 5: you know early days of pads when you're just getting
- 51:32Speaker 5: you know, they want to come in about now, have
- 51:35Speaker 5: a few practices, and then get right.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Into Yeah, the Eagles were down on the lower practice
- 51:39Speaker 3: field they come to when they enter the join the
- 51:42Speaker 3: Patriots on the two upper fields, like west Side story, right,
- 51:45Speaker 3: welcome to the I was gonna say, of the new facility,
- 51:48Speaker 3: they're gonna start, They're gonna start singing and dance when you're.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Snapping their fingers up there. It's very intimidating.
- 51:57Speaker 6: It's fine, was fine Helicopter.
- 52:02Speaker 2: I have that song stuck in my head from whatever
- 52:05Speaker 2: that Super Bowl.
- 52:06Speaker 5: Number was, fifty two. That's like me and Seahawks. I
- 52:10Speaker 5: can't get that out of my my stupid that one.
- 52:14Speaker 6: Somebody brought up the other day about how they're like
- 52:16Speaker 6: it's gonna be Banner Knite for Seattle, and like, I've
- 52:18Speaker 6: just completely blocked that entire game out of my brain
- 52:21Speaker 6: that I don't think it's going to really I know,
- 52:23Speaker 6: like that happened, Yeah, Like I have just completely erased
- 52:26Speaker 6: that memory.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Like it is.
- 52:29Speaker 2: I did too.
- 52:29Speaker 3: It didn't happen, and it was kind of easy to
- 52:31Speaker 3: erase because it wasn't that sudden joke like a lot
- 52:35Speaker 3: of the losses and Super Bowls were for the page.
- 52:37Speaker 1: They weren't even supposed to really be there.
- 52:39Speaker 4: It was.
- 52:39Speaker 3: It was just a slow death throughout the game, so
- 52:43Speaker 3: you never really had me hope. It was easy to
- 52:45Speaker 3: just wash it away.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Yeah, there's Jalen Harding. I think it's as hopeful as
- 52:49Speaker 2: I got.
- 52:49Speaker 5: Was like I think the first like drive they moved
- 52:52Speaker 5: the ball a little bit, you know, I was like okay,
- 52:54Speaker 5: and then from there it was like no.
- 52:57Speaker 3: And then the moment you had a little hope break
- 52:59Speaker 3: through the interception and that was it.
- 53:01Speaker 1: It was just like a little house money. That was
- 53:02Speaker 1: house money.
- 53:03Speaker 6: Like they were a year or two even before, you know,
- 53:06Speaker 6: ahead of schedule, and like it didn't hurt like the
- 53:09Speaker 6: Brady Ones.
- 53:09Speaker 5: Now it's still it's still just crazy to me that
- 53:12Speaker 5: after everything they went through the last couple of years,
- 53:14Speaker 5: that all of a sudden, of all the teams in
- 53:16Speaker 5: the a f C, which the a f C has
- 53:18Speaker 5: just been, you know, so impressive with the quarterbacks they've had,
- 53:20Speaker 5: that that they somehow made it.
- 53:22Speaker 1: Oh the booze for Jordan, Mamama.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Give him the mataz so Mackay Lemon, I guess practice
- 53:34Speaker 2: I got a hamstring.
- 53:35Speaker 1: I didn't think he was going to I wasn't sure,
- 53:37Speaker 1: but one.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Of them is not not healthy. We should have him
- 53:40Speaker 2: come up here and just stare at the camera, you know,
- 53:41Speaker 2: like he did it. He was staring at the man.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Jordan Mylotta is just like a hoss now.
- 53:48Speaker 6: I would just if Will Campbell turned into anything close
- 53:50Speaker 6: to that, Jordan.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Mylott, I would be so happy.
- 53:52Speaker 2: Look at this, Look at the side.
- 53:54Speaker 7: Lane Johnson and Morgan Moses like, that's too like NFL.
- 53:58Speaker 7: I think tackles they've seen some stuff now.
- 54:01Speaker 6: I think you can make the case that Lanine Johnson's
- 54:03Speaker 6: still the best tackle in football him or or Williams
- 54:07Speaker 6: in San Francisco.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I mean they're they're now.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Now Campbell spent some time with him.
- 54:12Speaker 6: Yeah, yep, with Tristan Wharfs, Dion Dawkins, Lane Johnson. We
- 54:16Speaker 6: can't learn from a better trio than that. Really, But
- 54:18Speaker 6: that was that a camp was that? It just an
- 54:21Speaker 6: impromptu get together.
- 54:23Speaker 1: Like a little bit of both, a little bit of both.
- 54:25Speaker 6: I think they they hung out and they did some
- 54:28Speaker 6: some ball talks, some not you know, extracurriculars.
- 54:31Speaker 1: I'm sure as well.
- 54:32Speaker 6: Some beers were probably drunk, and you know, they just
- 54:35Speaker 6: kind of told try to help him out a little bit.
- 54:38Speaker 6: Because I think that was one of the cool things
- 54:40Speaker 6: about Campbell's Like the whole offensive line community after the
- 54:43Speaker 6: Super Bowl, I think felt so bad for him because
- 54:45Speaker 6: it's this rookie in the Super Bowl that got his
- 54:47Speaker 6: butt kicked, and a lot of those guys kind of
- 54:49Speaker 6: like gave him a hug, you know, like they all
- 54:52Speaker 6: kind of embraced them and and said, you know, tried
- 54:54Speaker 6: to help him out. Even Deon Dawkins, who's on a
- 54:57Speaker 6: division rival, is trying to help him out. So that's
- 55:00Speaker 6: pretty cool.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I thought it was interesting.
- 55:01Speaker 5: I've listening to Will Campbell the other day and he
- 55:03Speaker 5: said the same thing that you've been saying all off
- 55:05Speaker 5: season of just trying to, you know, change up some
- 55:08Speaker 5: of his techniques and throw different things at the pass
- 55:10Speaker 5: rushers and not be so predictable. Uh, you know, we'll
- 55:13Speaker 5: see you get I love That's what I like about
- 55:15Speaker 5: the immediate tests with Seattle.
- 55:16Speaker 2: You'll get an immediate feedback on how that's going.
- 55:18Speaker 3: So you're seeing the offensive line go through their position drills,
- 55:22Speaker 3: getting ready for team drills back in Dante's Inferno.
- 55:27Speaker 4: Here's some cheering in the background.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Yeah, wide receiver, cornerback.
- 55:33Speaker 2: We're not allowed to show those, is that what?
- 55:36Speaker 1: Davonte Smith?
- 55:37Speaker 6: Will Campbell Deavante Smith just beat Carlton Davis on a
- 55:41Speaker 6: go route down here.
- 55:42Speaker 4: Okay, so you keep your eye on that, Evan I will.
- 55:46Speaker 6: Yes, I'm waiting for the offensive and defensive line to
- 55:49Speaker 6: get started, but they're still going through warm up.
- 55:51Speaker 1: It seems you.
- 55:52Speaker 5: Got eyes on on on Jordan Davis there and ken Ja.
- 55:56Speaker 1: I mean it's hard to miss them there. Yeah.
- 55:58Speaker 2: Yeah, those was the story for me today.
- 56:01Speaker 5: Well, it's interesting they're doing receivers and cornerbacks and linebackers
- 56:05Speaker 5: and backs, but not doing the the one on ones
- 56:07Speaker 5: offensive defensive line offensive.
- 56:10Speaker 1: That was weird as well.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Maybe they'll do that tomorrow. Yeah, they'll only do one
- 56:14Speaker 2: day or though, I don't know.
- 56:15Speaker 8: There's Drake May I think that was Veto that was yeah, okay, yeah,
- 56:22Speaker 8: Kobe Prentiss back in the story connection back in the.
- 56:25Speaker 5: Mix, Oh that's not that's check Wester was struggling get away.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Christian, Sam is still kicking around league.
- 56:31Speaker 6: Huh Christian, that Christian, I have believed you to Vito
- 56:39Speaker 6: doing a little dribble.
- 56:42Speaker 2: The dobbs too far inside? Yeah that snap, Wow, that
- 56:45Speaker 2: snap ruined that timing.
- 56:47Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, Tommy to chains. Now these are fun. This
- 56:50Speaker 5: is why this is such a great take. If you're
- 56:52Speaker 5: a fan, Uh, come down and watch these. I mean
- 56:54Speaker 5: right into it. It's not like you have to sit
- 56:56Speaker 5: through a couple of periods. It can't stop turn.
- 56:59Speaker 6: I would just say with wide receiver CB one on ones,
- 57:02Speaker 6: like you get one move, like like these guys that'd
- 57:05Speaker 6: run these double moves.
- 57:06Speaker 7: And like you see that, Like no, you get one move,
- 57:09Speaker 7: Like Drake was gonna throw it and then he's like
- 57:12Speaker 7: waiting and then he just throws it and there's like
- 57:13Speaker 7: nobody on Douglas, Like I don't know what happened there.
- 57:16Speaker 3: From the crowd, it looks like the defender went one
- 57:20Speaker 3: way and the receiver went to the other.
- 57:24Speaker 2: Now these are fun. I mean, I don't know how
- 57:26Speaker 2: much you really read into this stuff, but nothing fun to.
- 57:28Speaker 4: Watch unless unless the receiver just drops it.
- 57:31Speaker 2: You read nothing, Yeah, I lead more.
- 57:33Speaker 6: You know, the offensive and defensive line pass RUSS stuff
- 57:35Speaker 6: I think is important.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Evan and his.
- 57:39Speaker 6: Well, I think it's important because that that type of
- 57:42Speaker 6: stuff is very technical and you know, you get matchups
- 57:45Speaker 6: and you can see body types on body types and
- 57:48Speaker 6: things like that. I think with the receivers, they just
- 57:50Speaker 6: have so much space, like they have the whole field
- 57:53Speaker 6: to run through, and you should be completing like ninety
- 57:57Speaker 6: percent of the wide receiver one on ones. If you're not,
- 58:00Speaker 6: if you're having a tough day wide receiver wise in
- 58:02Speaker 6: this drill, then then that's not good.
- 58:05Speaker 2: Just time to shine in this drill.
- 58:07Speaker 3: Yeah, very hard to win if you're the defender in
- 58:11Speaker 3: these drills or if it gets overthrown like that.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Henry Yeah, Matt Collins.
- 58:21Speaker 5: Yeah, now that's interesting. They break the two days up.
- 58:24Speaker 5: I mean, I'm sure we'll probably do a you know,
- 58:26Speaker 5: a competitive kind of too.
- 58:28Speaker 6: Let's play he's really good at that route, his inside
- 58:32Speaker 6: release and then come fade back outside and stack the
- 58:36Speaker 6: Super Bowl the Super Bowl touchdown.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Yeah, he's really good.
- 58:39Speaker 2: At that route.
- 58:41Speaker 5: Williams Kyle, Yeah, a little more juice here with the Eagles,
- 58:46Speaker 5: a little more. I mean, no disrespect to the Colts
- 58:48Speaker 5: that I think they're a pretty good team too.
- 58:49Speaker 2: But the Eagle's got a lot of guys play colts
- 58:55Speaker 2: are pretty talented. Yeah, yeah, we gotta want something blocking here.
- 59:00Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 59:01Speaker 1: This Eagles team, to me is one of the best
- 59:03Speaker 1: rosters in the league.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Though.
- 59:04Speaker 1: This is they're stacked.
- 59:07Speaker 2: Where's Howie Roseman? Yeah, I don't know, going around, loved
- 59:12Speaker 2: making calls.
- 59:13Speaker 4: He's making calls, making moves.
- 59:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's my kind of guy.
- 59:18Speaker 2: You gotta come up.
- 59:18Speaker 5: So yeah, they're just I guess they're kind of working
- 59:20Speaker 5: on the pad, not quite as exciting, but.
- 59:22Speaker 1: We're we're like kind of trickling over.
- 59:25Speaker 7: He did a little spin move and almost you see that. Yeah,
- 59:28Speaker 7: is that my guy? My guy Gainer.
- 59:30Speaker 2: Now, guys, I might be misben remembering this.
- 59:33Speaker 5: So, but we were down at Philly for joint practices
- 59:35Speaker 5: with these guys a few years ago, and I to.
- 59:37Speaker 6: Remember twenty nineteen, My lotta was like a low round
- 59:40Speaker 6: pick was seventh round and yet like I just remember
- 59:43Speaker 6: seeing like that guy is huge, seventh round pick. It
- 59:46Speaker 6: was like Ozzie rules or rugby or something like that.
- 59:48Speaker 2: They didn't play football.
- 59:50Speaker 6: Seventh round pick and Jeff Stotlin, their offensive line coaches,
- 59:53Speaker 6: like their Dante Scarnicky has.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Turned him into like the best line.
- 59:56Speaker 5: It's so interesting because I remember looking at me like,
- 59:58Speaker 5: this guy is enormous, and clearly they got up too.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Oh, hold on in there, Yeah, punch out away got.
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: To you gotta keep your hands on it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: Yeah, Stalin's not with them anymore. They changed offensive coordinators
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: and he's you know.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: They were too good. They He's developed.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Apparently like a Hall of Fame level line.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Coad's like when you get Dontey Scarneckia, you hold on to.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: All right, de Gennaro one minute left in the show,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: when I'm told this period's going to be over. We're
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: not allowed to film after period five, so but we'll
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: be back tomorrow at nine to forty five and we'll
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: talk about everything we saw today for the remainder of
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: the practice.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: Obviously it's going to heat up a little bit.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll do a camp cast after us as well,
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: so give you a nicer little recaps. The practice is over.
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: For sure, so that'll be up shortly after twelve fifteen
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: when things wrap up.
